Quiz every Friday due before 5pm but you have practice-quizzes to prepare. Tests questions are straight out of the book for the most part. He actually makes the class interesting and fun! Great teacher overall!
Read textbook for weekly quizes and exams. Even though attending class is not mandatory, but I recommand you to go, just because He write some exam questions, and also sometimes he does have attendance quiz(not likely). Grading is a bit harsh, (25% weekly quiz, and 25% for each of the 3 exams.) Interesting and fun class, I recommand taking him!
Quizzes almost every week,2 online midterms and a final! He's a really cool professor; he knows how to make class very interesting. He lets you use the book while doing an online quiz. However, I think he is lazy when it comes to designing tests. Tests can be hard, but make a study group and you should be fine!
He is amazing!! I never thought I'd like PoliSci but he makes the class incredibly interesting. Plus, he's not too bad to look at. I recommend him to everyone I know.
Professor Contractor gives very clear lectures with powerpoints, is funny and helpful with grades. Weekly quizzes and all exams are online, so is the textbook. He is not judgemental and will be helpful to any trying student! Also an attractive man ;)
Pretty easy and straightforward professor! Makes the class interesting and fun. He's very sarcastic. Attendance isn't really mandatory, though it may help you out some. Weekly quizzes online. Two exams and final(not accumulative) online. Each exam ,and the quizzes are 25%. Some of the questions can be tricky. I would definitely recommend him!
He's a pretty cool guy. Very entertaining. He makes the classes as interesting as they can be since they are Political Science. Weekly quizzes over a chapter in the book. A midterm and a final.
I loved going to his class since it was pretty interesting but what he talks about is never on the quizzes or tests. Even after reading the chapters and taking notes on them I never got the grades I wanted.
This class is extremely easy. All test questions were taken from the textbook and all test were taken at home, which obviously is win. Prof was interesting, but never had enough material to fill the entire class time. Also, I dislike the format of his notes as they are unorganized. The class is an easy A, but the quality of education not so great.
Does not have enough material to cover in the entire class time. Talks about random news and his beliefs about society. Thinks hes cool and cusses alot in class. Takes too much pride in Political Science and makes sure the students are as interested as he is. Tests are standardized as is the power point slides he uses. All from McGraw Hill. 3 Tests
His class is pretty easy if you do the learnsmart and read. He will give in class quizzes if he know the class didn't read. Over all his teaching is pretty good and commments are funny.
Funny and cool professor. As long as you read before class and do the weekly learnsmarts, you should be fine. If he finds out majority of that class did not read, then he quizzes the class, and the quizzes are part of the learnsmart grade (25% of the final grade). Easy A if you try, but you may or may not actually learn a lot.
One of the most unbiased professors teaching political science at UH. He is funny, and the class is very easy. Easy A if you pay attention and do the homework.
he never replies to your emails or phone calls
Took him for the summer, he's a very funny guy. His tests come straight off the book, so make sure you know each chapter well. Not a hard class, just make sure you READ.
Great Professor. 3 online test for 75% of grade and about 10 online assignments for 25% of grade. LOTS and LOTS of reading. His test come from his lecture notes and the book. The book is an E-Book which is a pain if you ask me! Great professor- very knowledgeable and funny. I would recommend taking him!
Awesome professor! I was not the least bit interested in PoliSci prior to this summer. He took a subject I cared nothing about and made it very interesting. His tests weren't very easy so you have to make it to class everyday. He covers things in class that are not in the book.
Cyrus is the absolute best! The only reason I went to class as opposed to just reading the book was because I loved his lectures & the engaging conversations we had. Reading the book is MANDATORY. Quizzes almost every week & 3 pretty challenging tests. He is always there to help. I'd say easy B+ but extra effort is needed to make the A/A+ TAKE HIM!
The homework is a completion grade, so you can keep guessing and still finish it. The exams and final were really easy and done online, so you can do them at home if you have internet access. Easy A/A- class for sure! Take him if you need the credit. Also, attendance is not mandatory in his class.
Professor Contractor is very intelligent, satirical, & engages students in discussion over current events. I didn't miss any of his classes & didn't mind sitting towards the front, because he tends to pick on the students in the back. I ended up getting an A- (1 pt) away from an A because I missed one discussion & because I made a 74 on one test.
Contractor is great! I hate politics, but I love his class. Make sure you do learnsmarts and keep reviewing them even after you complete them. and read read read! fill in his ppt slides. a lot of test questions come from there.
The best choice I did this year was taking Dr. Contractor's political science class.
His class is pretty easy and straightforward. The test are online and the only other grades are LearnSmarts, which are completion grades. I'd recommend taking his class!!
Pro. Contractor really knows hoe to make the class interesting, but that doesn't mean his class is easy! In order to pass you have to read the book cover to cover (only the chapters you need)! And depending on how well you read each chapter, the learn-smart assignments may take longer or shorter time.
Professor Contractor is a really great professor; class is always interesting and upbeat. Reading the book is a definitely a must. He will give quizzes if he thinks the class isn't reading. Most of his grades are participation and completion grades and as long as you study, the exams aren't hard.
Did not have a great experience with Contractor. He comes off very rude. Found it very difficult to study for his exams. He says the tests will be based off of Learnsmart and his study guide, but that's not the case. Overall, I wouldn't advise anyone to take this class
Prof. Contractor is a great teacher, and very knowledgable. He comes off a bit cynical at first, but that changes once you get farther into the class. It's not an easy course but if you contribute to the discussions and do the work, it's not bad at all. I had him for both 1336 and 37 and I highly recommend his classes.
Learnsmarts due every week. They are completion grades. Three test. His test are pretty hard. He is really fun and actually makes class fun and interesting. I would take him again.
AWESOME TEACHER! he is hilarious and makes the course very interesting! Learnsmart assignments due every week which are very easy to complete. 4 exams which are all online (which is a bonus) Perfect teacher to take for government.
I highly recommend this professor due to his excellent execution of teaching the course and his honest humor. He made a required course fun to attend and learn from. The only assignments and assessments required to pass this course is weekly learnsmarts (one online assignment per week) and 4 exams. Always read book and be ready to discuss in class
Found it very difficult to study for his exams. He says the tests will be based off of Learnsmart and his study guide, but that's not the case. Overall, I wouldn't advise anyone to take this class unless you like taking exams online.
This class is involved and very informative. I left with more comprehension than when I came in, plus additional. I cannot wait to take other classes by him. You have to study to do well--if you want to settle for a C than you do not have to study. It's a A you have to effort for.
I love Professor Contractor. This is a mandatory core class and it is not an easy A. There are weekly learnsmarts and 3 tests, he does not give extra credit. This class requires a lot of time and dedication to make a decent grade.
His class was not easy. Tests were hardly over what he lectured about. Although I say that, his lectures are interesting and engaging. He has Learnsmart assignments, a few writing assignments, and tests. If you want to pass his class read the book, if you want to learn something then attend his lectures.
Tests are all online but they aren't easy. Google is your best friend. Do ALL the lead smarts. They can be a huge pain but it's worth the easy 100. I've been to three of his classes and I personally hate Poli sci so I had no interest in his class at all but he's a funny professor. Keeps the class active with discussions. Ended with A-
He is funny and isn't boring. 3 online tests worth 25% of your entire grade so use gogle because you can find almost al the answers. DO EVERY SINGLE LEARNSMART. It's a pain but it is worth it because if you mess up on a test you can fall back on that. I skipped class all the time and he gives a curve to final grade. You could get an A if you try
Professor Contractor is amazing. I absolutely loved his class. 25% of grade is Learnsmart. The 3 tests are not easy at all, though. The information comes from the book, not him, and also covers historical events he doesn't tell you about. But his lectures are so engaging, and definitely worth going to. I'm taking him next semester too, can't wait!

Students chose this professor because each exam (3 exams worth 25 percent each) could be accessed anywhere with the other exam takers, lectures were more entertaining rather than informing, and because class was easy (even though this is my only class without an A) How far will most of these commentators go to keep supporting this professor?
Took him last semester and he is an AMAZING professor. He has a lot of knowledge and makes his class very interesting. To make an A in his class, as in any other political science class here at UH you need to read the book. His exams are easy compared to other professors.
You have to take the tests with a webcam now which records your screen/face/sound and it's really a lot of pressure. He seems to get annoyed if he doesn't get the respect he thinks he "deserves". He's kind of an ah0le but his lectures are kind of interesting...I guess. I recommend taking another professor.
Just find someone else. The fact that you are now being recorded with a program while taking an online test is just complete and utter bs (why complicate it, i have no idea). While lectures seem pretty interesting, the class is just too complicated to keep track of, especially in a core course such as Political Science. Easy homeworks though.
You will have to read the textbook for the tests, even if you attend every single lecture. Contractor is fair but demands a lot of respect from his students and easily loses his temper at times during lecture. Weekly learnsmart assignments along with other activities, don't slack off.
Do not take him. He used to be an easy professor but now he makes all the students record themselves and the questions he asks on the tests are extremely detailed. For one of the tests, he asks for each individual name on the Senate and the House of Representatives. In class, we'd discuss current events that are not even exam materials!

The video recording during the exam really stresses me out, but he's a good lecturer and makes poli sci somewhat interesting. His tests come straight from the book so just make sure you read before each test. He also gives pop quizzes throughout the semester so go to class!
I took his class because he had good reviews, but he is not good. His lectures had nothing to do with the tests, maybe like 5 questions were from lecture. I found that the majority of his tests were from the Learnsmarts. I do not recommend this professor. The recording during tests makes one very nervous.
Took him because he had good reviews but he is not good. His tests never reflected the lecture. If you wanna do good study the learnsmarts, that's where most of the questions came from. The video recording during the test only gets you more nervous than you already are. Don't take him, if you do then focus on the book and learnsmarts.
Professor Contractor is one of a kind. I bet you all the negative reviews are from students who never went to class. He's probably the funniest professor I've had, very clear in his lectures. Intelligent and knowledgeable, read the textbook and take notes in class, this is a must. He seems like a jerk, but he really wants to see you succeed.
He is a horrible... DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Good guy, WORST PROFESSOR. He mentions nothing in class to help you with the tests. I don't even know what else to say about him that would be positive. Obviously all his rating went from green to red for a reason. The recording for tests is ridiculous and sometimes does not even work. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT take him.
Very hard class. Tests have nothing to do with lectures and have random questions we never went over!
Horrible professor because of him i have to take this class over . the only reason why i took him is because his reviews were good . This semester he chose to make us video record ourselves which is a nightmare no one take this guy i repeat no one take this guy he is the worst professor ever his lectures and review sheets are totally irrelevant
Horrible professor because of him i have to take this class over . the only reason why i took him is because his reviews were good . This semester he chose to make us video record ourselves which i don't get and his lectures and review sheets are not helpful .
One of the best professors I've ever had during my education. To succeed in this course with an A do the following: Read the book, show up to class, and do the learn smarts.
Exams are online, however you must record yourself taking the test through a webcam. Grades are from 3 Tests and a weekly LearnSmart Assignment. In order to succeed in this class, I would recommend attending class, doing the LearnSmarts, and READ THE BOOK! He is a really nice and funny guy, his tests are just a little hard.
Great Professor! Highly recommend him
Grade consisted of learnsmarts, active learn assignments, and 3 exams. Exams are online, BUT you need to have your webcam and mic on at all times. Your face and screen actions will be recorded and uploaded and he and his 5 TA's will go through every recording. No webcam/mic? You cannot take the exam. Added 5.6667 pts to everyone's grade at the end.
This is an excellent professor! Strict, but this is what you should expect at a university level. He is incredibly smart, knows his material, and is very helpful when you put in the effort. Exams are difficult if you don't go to class or read consistently. Do your work and you will get an A! Prof. Contractor is by far the best professor I ever had!
Horrible professor. Had to have a webcam, and microphone to take the 3 online tests. Questions were specific! Review sheets were useless. He says attendance is not mandatory but the questions came from the power point and lectures.
One of the most interesting and intelligent people I know. His lectures are very interesting and it is a pleasure to talk to Dr. Contractor.
Best professor ever! So naturally I go into this class thinking oh gosh political science... What a bore! And oh how he proved me wrong, this man is intelligent, extremely funny and he is also very engaging with the class, he likes participation and this semester he has an all quiz and learnsmart based grading system NO EXAMS! Highly recommend him!
He is an amazing professor, really knows his stuff, respects people's opinions, and get's students interested in politics.
Taking Dr. Contractor this semester was the best choice I ever made. I had a horrible experience with a different professor for POLS 1336. I wish I would have known about Cyrus. This was the first semester he had no tests. Your grade was LearnSmarts, Quizzes, and Learning Assignments. Read the book and you'll do great. TAKE HIM! You won't regret it
does not give tests.... love it!!
Contractor's class is pretty easy. You just have to do the work and the extra credit to get an A. He's pretty funny too.
Class is comprised of 6 quizzes and 4 written assignments. DO THEM!
Great teacher. He's forgiving with your grade, so if you miss something, just ask. Understanding. He's funny, so definitely participate if you can.
Class was super easy. He's funny and makes makes material interesting. There were no exams and no final. All we had were assignments called "Active Learning Assignments" and they were super easy. There were also six quizzes to replace the test grades. The quizzes are all online and easy to pass if you do the learnsmart and listen in class.
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR. TAKE HIM.
Contractor was fantastic. He's super funny. I learned so much and always felt extremely engaged during his lectures. The assignments were interesting - overall a great experience. Definitely taking him next semester. Almost changed my major because of this guy!
The guy is absolutely hilarious. Often spends the first ten minutes of class telling an amusing anecdote. For 1336, THERE ARE NO TESTS OR FINALS. Easy to get 100's on homework assignments (Learnsmarts) and Active Learning Assignments (pretty much participation grades. Quizzes are easy A's. His lectures are stimulating and I learned a lot from him!
Hands down best professor I've had. 6 quizzes, 4 online assignments (easy), and weekly learnsmarts, that's all! It may sound like a lot but it's really easy to get an A. He's also soo funny and interesting, and i learned a lot from his daily current event talks. If you have the opportunity, TAKE HIM!
Seriously a fantastic teacher.
I have never been interested in Politics at all. But this dude is super hilarious in his lectures. He is extremely intelligent and witty and makes the topics very very interesting. Sometimes I would run to class because I would be so excited to go to his class. He's not a push over, you cant beg for your grade. By far one of my all time fav teacher
ALL OF THE ASSIGNMENTS ARE ONLINE. No midterm, No final, just do the online quizzes, active learning assignments, learn smarts, skim read the chapters and you will get an "A". His lectures are interesting and he's a stand up comic. Hilarious professor. No curves because it isn't necessary when the average is a B+. No papers to write.
Originally did not like this subject, but Professor Contractor really peaked my interest. Although I took this class at 9am, it was well worth it. All lectures were very intriguing and he always made jokes and kept the class entertained. Clear teaching-style and everything for quizzes was told in lecture or the book. No tests given, only quizzes.
Easy class. All online assignments. Had one random attendance grade when not that many people showed up. He makes it rain extra credit. Super funny and witty. Influenced me to change my manager.
Great professor. Honestly loved everything about the class and his lectures. He has a few quizzes that are a bit difficult, but if you read the chapter then you should have an A
Great guy, easy to work with.
He's a good man, very easy to work with. His lectures are interesting and not boring. Class discussion is prized and open.
Contractor's class is clear, concise, and fun. It's a very interactive class, so make sure to let yourself be heard when you're discussing current events. If you talk to him before or after class, he's very helpful, and he remembers you if you speak up. The only grades are learnsmarts and quizzes; it's definitely an easy A.
I had Professor Contractor for Political Science my first semester and he was great! He made a boring subject, and my weakest for that matter, a fun one by joking around and keeping us entertained. His lectures are straight to the point and if you take notes you'll do fine. DO THE LEARNSMARTS. They're a super easy hundred and grade booster.
This guy's good. He is clear and concise. I find this subject boring but he made it interesting. 1010 would recommend
Professor Contractor is awesome. I had him early mornings for 1336 and never went to class, I finished with a 98. His lectures are amazing, even though they have nothing to do with the quizzes. No tests, everything is online, try and take him in he afternoon so you can go to his lectures. Take him for 1337 too, it's the same class.
I'm in Contractor's Politics of the Middle East class this semester and when he first gave out the syllabus, it looked as though it would be an extremely demanding class. However, Contractor is a chill dude, he gives extra credit, and his two tests are pretty easy (open note, online). You have a research paper and a paper over a book as well.
I hate polisci but I almost always attended his lectures. He's witty and the kind of professor you want to be friends with and that will remember you and be friends with you in return. You need the E-book for learnsmarts, you take online quizzes, and do activelearn assignments (sometimes can be tedious). No exams, rare attendance quizzes.
Don't listen to what others have to say about him. He's not a very good teacher and he gives random assignments. His jokes are corny and POLS 1336 was one the most boring classes I've ever taken. Do yourself a favor and get another teacher, one who isn't rude and actually cares about their students.
He lectures with enthusiasm and power in his voice, and he definitely tried his best to make a boring subject relatable to modern day news. Ive had trouble attending class this past month due to change in my work schedule, but I can assure you that you don't necessarily have to go in order to be able to do is assignments. He's funny and creative!
Prof. Contractor is a really great professor! He makes the class interesting and engaging with his students. Everything is online; no midterms or final. Definitely would take again.
Contractor is a cool professor. He really connects with his students on a daily basis. For those who don't like exams or need a class that can help boost your GPA, I would highly recommend taking Contractor for Political Science. You just show up, complete the reading assignments, quizzes, and active learning assignments and you should be fine
The professor was your typical professor, nothing too outstanding. Unfortunately for his classes most of your grade comes from online assignments and online work that has to be done beforeafter class (which requires monitoring software). I wouldn't take him again.
I love this professor. The class is a little hard but he is really funny and makes you want to go. He gives you essay q's on the test but he gives them to you in advance so you can prepare. Two papers. Lots of reading. Super nice guy. Dude deserves a raise... Also, easy on the eye.
Dont bother trying to email him, he wont respond. Easy class but if you forget one assignment, say goodbye to a good grade.
Great professor!! All the assignments are online, you cant turn anything in late. You do all your assignments and don't miss a quiz you can get at least an A-.
Contractors class was a breeze. I only showed up the first and last week of classes. I managed to end with an A and all the assignments were online. He's a really cool professor and knows what political science is really about. He's also an attractive fellow both inside and out. You'll never be bored in class. This class has no filter!!!
An easy A class! All the assignments are online and straight forward. eBook required. NO final or midterm exams! His lectures are entertaining and informative at the same time. He's just a really nice guy overall. Don't be afraid to go up and say hi to him and introduce yourself, he's a cool person to talk to. (also, not bad too look at either!)
Pop quiz 10% of final grade
Fascinating class. My best teacher this semester. The other students really disappointed me, though. Read, participate, and you'll be fine. This class was easy, informative, and enjoyable. Get the "LearnSmart" exercises out of the way ASAP. If you get lazy he'll throw out pop quizzes, so just don't do that. Well over half of my class got an A or B.
He's funny and clear cut to the point. Discusses all the stuff going around the world, and Easy A class just do all required work and all the work is online so you all set.
Professor Contractor is an older brother, father figure, and friend. He taught us politics and social issues through personal anecdotes that had our sides hurting from laughter. There is no rating good enough for this man, he is the absolute best. Don't piss him off tho, he knows how to make that GPA hurt haha. Love you brotha! #ArsenalIsWack
Good class, relatively easy. No tests or finals, just a series of 10 quizzes throughout the semester. You have to read to pass the quizzes bc they are over specific details. Quizzes are 20 questions in 20 minutes. 20% of your grade is Learnsmarts which are basically completion. Good lectures, he talks a lot about current events.
Professor Contractor is awesome! Your grade comes from quizzes and Learnsmarts. You don't need to be in class, everything is online, but you'd miss out. Also, some things he says in lectures pop up on the quizzes. The stories he tells are the best and he's extremely funny. I would take him again!!
The lectures are good. He does not take attendance. You have a lot of quizzes, which it probably my least favorite part of this class. No midterm or final.
Half the class is spent on what's going on in the news, so it's not like there's much to take in. He tells a lot of personal stories and is really funny, but will get angry is people talk (understandable) No Midterm or Final, but a Learnsmart and Quiz (or Active Learning Assignment) due most weeks. Take him, easy A, no work, funny class, hot dude.
Easy class as long as you stay on top of the assignments. There is usually 1 homework assignment per week that is a completion grade. There are about 7 online quiz's 20 questions in 20 minutes. His lectures are quite entertaining. He does not require attendance, however he does throw in a "pop quiz" at least once to help those who actually attend.
One of my favorite professors. He is hilarious and really in tune with what is happening in the world today. He gets along great with his students. His assignments are easy and to the point. No midterm, no final, no tests. A few online quizzes but they are not too hard. Taking him again next semester. Do the work and you'l have an A.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! Attendance isn't mandatory, but I don't know why anyone won't go to his lectures. He's hilarious! Learnsmarts, quizzes, and NO TESTS! Definitely recommend, easy A!
His class is pretty easy and he's a hilarious professor. Attendance isn't necessary and as long as you do your work you should be able to get a good grade. There is no final exam and the quizzes are online and all the questions can be easily googled (god bless quizlet). So yeah, I really recommend him!
the prof. is interesting, and funny. you will love Politics if you take it with him, and you might change your major to politics. he gives 6 online quizzes, no finals. no class exams. no attendance.
Cyrus is hot. After two weeks, I stopped showing up. 100% of everything is online. Lectures I swear are just his time to practice his comedic skits. Hilarious on another level, but no need to show up, just mark on your phone or something when electronic things are due.
Contractor is awesome, do yourself a favor and sign up for his class. Political Science is painful for me, and he makes it bearable. It really helps a lot in a class with such dry material.
I love this professor. So sad I won't be able to take him anymore. I've taken 1336 and 1337 with him. No tests! 6 easy quizzes that are online and all on quizlet. Thats it! No attendance either. What more can you ask for?
This is probably one of the best professors I've ever had the privilege to know. He is an amazing lecturer and the work for the class is very minimal. No tests, few quizzes (all online) and a few online assignments. My favorite part of class was always when we talk about current news because he always had a unique way of dissect through people's BS
He is really an easy A. There are small weekly assignments online (But I honestly did all of them within the first month to knock them out), a few assignments and quizzes that are specific days only, and that's it. The quizzes are mostly able to be found on quizlet, anyways. He is very funny, but his lectures can get a bit boring sometimes.
Great Professor! If you do the work and attend the lectures, you'll pass. He gave us no final/midterm, 3 online 20-question quizzes test-wise, and 3 active learning assignments for major grades (which were easier than the learnsmarts). He uses his lectures to make you more politically aware and ties the curriculum to modern-day current events.
The best professor at UH, no doubt. 3 online quizzes, 3 active learning assignments, and a couple learn smarts comprise your grade. Very interesting and knowledgeable lectures also.
I am taking Professor Contractor for POLS 1336. He is a hilarious professor although there are somethings that he says in his lecture as a joke might come as offending. Quizzes all online, learn smart, and active learning assignment are all online. Show up or don't show up doesn't matter. Do the online stuff and you have an A.
Confused by such positive reviews. Took his class on the Middle East. The whole class comprised of group presentations on the readings, he rarely ever taught. One research paper (8-10 pgs) and one book review (3-5 pgs). Take home exams. Tough grader, but gives EC if you attend events on campus. Would skip this class if I could do over.
Those that rated him positive most likely did so because of how easy/lazy his classes are. His lectures mostly consist of his personal views on things. I didn't pay to hear jokes. Once I realized how useless attendance was, i began skipping. Grade was unaffected. Do not, however, miss even a single online assignment. My grade went from an A to B
Professor Contractor's class may not be for everyone but this man knows what he's talking about. His opinions about world wide events are critical to what should happen next - when, where, and why. He loves the element of roasting so yea you shouldn't skip his class.
he's col but i found some of the content to not relate very much to quizzes but he's hot so i just went to class to look at him
Quizzes are 20 questions but you only have 20 minutes which is hectic! Learnsmarts and active learning assignments are very easy! His class was boring! I only went about 10 times all semester but he ended up giving a pop quiz towards the end! This class is NOT an easy A!!!!
LOL dont listen to the scrubs who say "This is NOT an easy A" because its not gonna get any easier that Contractors POLS class I promise. Went to class everyday. slept in it. Did all the assignments on time. Did quizzes with friends. Made it out with a 97 in the class and an A. Spent like 3 hours all semester for this class tbh. TAKE HIM! EASY A
Super easy. all you have to do is the learnsmarts, some simple assignments, and quizzes. All of this is online. You wont get penalized for skipping his class, but he's hilarious and made me laugh all the time. He's the roasting king of politics lol.
Prof. Contractor is an awesome professor!!! There are a lot of assignments to complete; however his grading criteria is extremely clear and the work is NOT difficult. His lectures are very interesting and he's super hilarious!
Do yourself a favor and take his class. He doesn't give any tests and your grade is based on quizzes and learnsmarts. He's pretty chill and you can do anything during lecture as long as you don't talk.
Prof. Contractor is a pretty chill guy honestly. His lectures aren't boring and he actually will start telling some funny stories. There's no exams only quizzes and learn smart assignments; stay on top of that and you should get a B or higher. Coming from someone who is not really into politics so good luck.
I really enjoyed this professor and his lectures, even if from time time he got off subject. You will need you text book since there is a lot of learn smart assignment. Also other small projects as well (active learning), test are a little challenging. Overall really liked this class and thought he was a good professor, wish he did a study guide.
He is a very easy teacher to take. Attendance is not mandatory, and he only has 6 quizzes and no test what so ever. You are required to do a few assignment here and there, but they aren't that difficult to complete. He is a very funny teacher who i recommend for people who want to get there basic out of the way.
Great teacher. Only 6 quizzes that count as test grades. If you're in the CLASSmates program, choose him. Attendance is not mandatory, quizzes are based off of learnsmarts. He's an awesome teacher as a whole.
Nice guy very biased. Loves Killary. Pretty easy class tho.
Professor Contractor is an overall gem and an asset to the University of Houston. You can tell he is very passionate about his work. He is very nice, funny, articulate, intelligent, and genuinely cares about his students. He wants his students to do well and succeed. His lectures are always inspirational and we as students are so lucky to have him!
Contractor is one of the funniest professors I've ever had, he doesn't care what your political opinion is, he just wants you to have real discussions and make real connections. Weekly learnsmarts and occasional quizzes but neither are hard.
Take him if you want an easy A. Your grade is based off of LearnSmarts, quizzes (5), and Active Learning Assignments (4) which are really easy and can be done in 30 min. The Quizzes are based off of the Learnsmarts and have little to do with the his lectures. You can use his class as a study period and he gives a lot o extra credit opportunities.
Probably one of my easiest classes. Attendance is not mandatory, no exams or final, and he give extra credit opportunities. Grades are made up of 5 online quizzes, learn smarts, and active learning assignments. Easy A, do yourself a favor and take his class!!!
Contractor is your typical core professor. He is always making jokes about the topics or just calling people out when he finds it necessary. The class is very easy as long as you keep up with the assignments. It's easier said than done since he changes the due dates every few weeks. I would definitely take him again. No tests, just home quizzes
Professor Contractor is an AWESOME professor. Take him you will not regret it. There is no textbook you need to purchase, just an online course code. Attendance is not mandatory but I would definitely show up for the first half of the semester at least because that is when he actually did some teaching. I would take this Professor again if I could.
Taking Contractor's class was definitely a wise choice. While he does cover the ppt slides, he will do rants every once and there to relate it to the material. His coursework is fairly easy, just beware of the quizzes as time is pretty much your biggest enemy. But other than that, it was a fun class.
Hilarious, but quizzes were ridiculous. 20 questions in 20 minutes, and he hardly finished any lectures so you didn't know most of the material.
Professor Contractor is one of the greatest professors at UH. There are many assignments but all of them are participation grades, do them and you will get an A. There are online quizzes 20 questions in 20 minutes they are easy time is biggest enemy. Dont have to show up to class and he is hilarious and really engaging. AMAZING PROF AND EASY A
Contractor is an easy A for sure. You don't really need to be in class. He once told this kid who would not stop talking that he did not need to be in class because attendance was not mandatory. Only thing you really need to watch out for are the quizzes. Some answers are online but most of them aren't. I was 1 point away from an A DO EXTRA CREDIT!
Super cool Professor, he's really nice about grades if you're having trouble just talk to him! There's just like 11 learnsmarts, 5 quizzes, and like 3-4 little assignments, make sure you don't miss the learnsmarts and also study for the quizzes!!! I like'd this class bc there's no test, and it's not mandatory (try to go though)!
His class is real easy. Just do the quizzes, do the learnsmarts, and active learning assignments during the semester. He also provides lots of opportunities during the semester for extra credit. Absolutely hilarious and likes engaging with his students before lecture on perspectives regarding world politics or issues. A good eyeopener.
Great professor, his lectures are always very interesting and I've learned so much from his class. He will give a "pop quiz" if the class looks empty but its really just taking attendance and giving everyone who is not in class a 0. But he is very understanding and cares about his students!
He is super funny, I only showed up because he made me laugh. Attendance isn't mandatory but occasionally had pop-up quizzes which were just attendance sheets. Quizzes aren't super easy but are passable but his homework and learnsmarts are easy.
Contractor is a hilarious and cool professor. He is experienced and knows how to teach the material in a non-boring way. He does not assign too much work; all you really have to do is weekly reading and occasional writing assignments. Quizzes are based on chapters/lectures. On a side note, he loves participation & doesn't reply to emails.
This class is very easy you dont have to show up for class well I didnt. Went in the first day and never went again. Everything is online learnsmarts(20%), quizzes(40%), and active learning(40%). Very easy though.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he's a great professor. His lectures are very interesting. Make sure not to miss any assignments because he'll not make any exceptions. Quizzes are horrible though.
Contractor is honestly one of my favorite professors at UH. He is pretty straightforward with his expectations in the beginning of the semester. He says their is no extra credit but there is. However the quizzes are all based off of information from the LearnSmarts so pay attention to them. Also he only gives quizzes and ALA, no test or homework.
Awesome professor, grab him while you can.
Contractor is great no tests no final only learnsmarts and online quizzes. Quizzes are hard 20 questions in 20 minutes so you have to be fast. All assignments are online. He is funny and is respected. He said there would be pop quizzes but there never was. Easy A+ pick him over anyone else please do yourself a favor. Took his 1336 and 1337
EASIEST Pols 1336 professor at UH. I probably showed up to class once every three weeks to get an update on what was going on, but as long as you do your online work, which is super easy to complete, you are guaranteed an A in this class.
This class was so easy. It consisted of Learnsmarts (20%), Active Learning Assignments (40%) and quizzes (40%) and no tests. He also gives extra credit that added 3 points to my total grade. He said he'd give in-class quizzes, so I rarely skipped his class, but he never gave my class one. Overall, such an easy professor!
Great professor. He made his lectures interesting. Skipping class will not hurt your grade.
He's an amazing professor and lectures are great. He does give random attendance quizzes and since quizzes are the main grades attendance is kinda necessary
Attendance is not mandatory but there are 2 or 3 in class quizzes to check attendance, I missed 1 of 3 and still got an A.
Apparently gives pop quizzes, but I took him for both polisci classes and I never went. I got a B in both classes, which is fair because both semesters I missed a couple assignments. He gives extra credit. Basically you have to do learnsmarts and quizzes, but the quiz answers can be found on google very easily. Would take again for an easy class.
I only took his class because of the grades that he got on rate my professor. He didn't live up to them at all. He lectured everyday in class but those lectures didn't correspond to the quizzes on McGraw Hill Connect. I'm assuming the people who graded him like political science, because I've had quite a few professors, he's ok.
Best 1337&1336 prof ever. Y would you even take anyone else? Not only is this guy funny, informative, and awesome, but he also has easy homework quizzes and homework. For attendance, if a lot of people don't show up, he will pull a pop quiz on that class. I didn't get one, but my friends did. You need to buy a code. U can google quizes and hw isez
Professor Contractor is a solid choice. I have never been a fan of political science, but his class actually breaks things down so I understand what's going on. I've enjoyed almost every lecture because he speaks to us on our level. The only negative thing I have to say about him is that he uses bad language; it completely takes away from the point
I actually took him for both POLS 1336 and 1337. Both semesters, I skipped half of the classes and it didn't affect my grade at all. All you have to do is learnsmarts, quizzes, and active learning assignments, all of which are online through McGraw Hill. The ALAs are super easy and the quizzes can be googled.
Overall, he's a pretty good professor. Lectures can often be boring and off topic, but they're still bearable. Just make sure you keep up with the syllabus and do all the quizzes and assignments. Missing even one or two assignments can take a toll on your grade.
Contractor is overall a good professor, but he can be very boring at times. I rarely ever went to class and had no problem doing my assignments because it's all online. We didn't have a final but had Active Learnings, Wrap it ups, and quizzes.
One of UH's best teachers. He doesn't teach down to the lowest common denominator like most core classes. He brings up topics that really make you think critically. When people spoke in class he seemed to genuinely want to hear all points of view. Expectations are clear and assignments are very fair. This class was an actual learning experience.
Contractor is a solid choice for Political science, i respect the way he lectures, always breaking things down to an understandable level. He has really difficult assessments that require a fair amount of engagement with the textbook. His lectures are amazing, and he brings the subject matter to a realistic place.
Contractor great professor. Extremely knowledgabe about the subject. Enjoys lecturing, he's good at it, very engaging and funny. You have to come to class because he will assign pop quizzes if attendance is low. Paper over a book. Research paper is time consuming but gives you all the materials to succeed. 2 Tests that are take home. Take him.
He is an AMAZING political science professor, cares about students, and is extremely respectful! His lectures are interesting and different, he will definitely not be as boring as most poli sci classes. He's funny and cool, easy to talk to, and knowledgable. Course content is really insightful and good, but you'll have to read and attend class.
His class has no tests, finals, or papers and all assignments are online. Attendance isnt mandatory but he does threaten at the beginning of the semester that he might give a pop quiz in class if attendance is low. The reason I gave him a 4/5 and not 5/5 is cause he gave a pop quiz on the day of the Astros Parade >:( like we get it ur from Dallas!!
Admittedly, towards the end of the semester I stopped going to his lectures. The ones I did go to were entertaining but they covered more current events than the actual course material. The "Pop quiz" he was actually just him taking attendance... but it was the day of the Astros Parade so nobody was in class. No tests, No final. Would take again.
While attendance isn't mandatory, he might decide to take attendance and count it as a quiz grade. At the beginning of every class he asks for the news discusses it, it's a nice way to stay updated and learn about things outside of Political Science. Having no tests was nice, but missing a quiz or getting a bad grade really affects your average.
His expectations for the class are clear. Attendance isn't mandatory but for my class he had a pop quiz which was an attendance sheet. His lectures go by very fast because he spends a lot of time talking about current events. All of the work is online and if you do it well (which it isn't hard), easy A. Plus, there are no papers, tests, or a final!
Just do the wrap it ups, quizzes and active learnings and you'll get an A. do the extra credit opportunities bc it really boosts your grade. He gave an attendance quiz once the day of the Astros parade but he also warned us at the beginning of that week that he needed to give out a pop quiz soon. Show up if you can, he's funny and cool.
Prof Contractor is amazing. Attendance isn't mandatory, but once in awhile he will give a pop quiz if class attendance is low. No exams, only online assignments and quizzes. He is hilarious definitely recommend taking him.
Contractor is probably the easiest professor you'll have at UH. The only semi-difficult assignments are quizzes but the answers are easily accessible. He drags students and roasts celebrities and it is the greatest thing. THERE ARE NO TESTS OR FINAL EXAMS!!!! Just do your weekly assignments and you'll pass.
Grade consists of 4 Active Learnings, Wrap it up assignments (you have unlimited attempts to choose correct answer) and online quizzes which can be quizlet-ed. Easiest class ive ever taken. Never went to class
Its quiz based, and LearnSmart based. His lectures wont cover a lot because youll do most of the reading on your own. Hell do pop quizzes, dont just rely on his PowerPoint or you wont pass
He is a funny guy. He assigns quizzes and assignments each week but they are not hard. You can easily search them on the internet. There is no test involved in this class which is great.
It's lit
Very Knowledgeable Professor. Reasonable workload.
EASIEST CLASS EVER. Didnt show up to class even once. Grades are learnsmarts, quizzes and wrap it up assignments. Almost all answers for all three things are online/quizlet. Literally dont even know how the professor looks like- thats how little effort i had to put in to get an A+.
Very easy class however he lies about when quizzes and stuff are due so you gotta check EVERY DAY if you do that for sure A. also he is very rude VERY rude
Easily the greatest professor I have ever taken. No exams, only simple quizzes. Easy homework, funny dude. Just complete all of the assignments and you should make an A.
Esskeetit
Professor Contractor is funny and his lectures are thought provoking. You can view grades immediately after you finish an assignment(they are all online), there is no final and he gives extra credit opportunities. Do the mind-taps in the beginning so you don't have to worry about due dates(usually on Fridays)! Definitely take his class.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. Lectures are very interesting because we talk about current events and it made a boring topic (in my opinion) interesting. Stay on top of your work and you'll definitely get an A.
Super easy class! Lecture can be boring if you're not into Political Science but make sure to attend because you never know when he'll give an in-class quiz. NO test! Only quizzes, active learning assignments, and wrap-it ups! He is very chill and doesn't mind if you take a nap, but make sure to participate!!
I took this class during the Spring Semester and it was EASY!!! There are no tests so thats amazing, but there are many assignments that you do online which pretty much makes up your grade. These assignments are easy as well, just dont be dumb like a person I knew who forgot to do the assignment for the week because you can DROP TO A B!!!
The easiest A I have ever received. I did not need to show up to class ever to pass, but I just liked going because his lectures were so fun. Contractor is really chill. 10/10.
One of the best professors I've had so far. Easy A yet I never really attended the last half of the class (I feel bad for doing so but eh). Do not miss the deadlines for the assignments and quizzes or else your grade WILL suffer. It's easy to forget about the work since it's such an easy class so be careful. Overall, funny guy and love his attitude
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. Best decision I've ever made my whole semester. Take him if you can!
EASY A. NO TESTS, FINAL, OR ESSAYS. There's only wrap it ups, active learning assignments, and quizzes. They are all online so just be careful to not miss a due date! All of the answers are on quizlet or sciemce. Gives 3 extra credits which are just surveys that take like 5 mins to do. Also took both of his POLS classes in the spring semester.
Contractor is the best professor I've ever had. He is the funniest professor as well, quite savage. As long as you complete each assignment you should make an A. No tests, no final. Only 4 easy quizzes, and the rest are easy homework assignments. It would be hard to not make an A in this class... unless you didn't do any assignments.
Professor Contractor is so chill and his lectures are very funny and engaging. This time I took him during the summer 5-week session and it's the same format. Quizzes however are now in class but are easily found online as well as all the homework assignments. No tests or midterms!! Come to class in case he gives out a pop quiz. Highly recommend.
Take his class!!! There are no exams at all. Everything is online and his assignments are easy. He is very chill, cares about his students, and gives multiple extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Hes the best
really easy class he lectures you read, few quizzes and wrap it ups are all easy
He was a great professor when it came to lectures. This class made me love politics and more importantly understand politics and that is all thanks to Dr. Contractor. Be aware of quizzes! If you do bad it could drop your grade a lot.
Go to class, you will regret not going. Beware of pop quizzes. Good Luck Charlie.
Don't take this class unless you're Middle Eastern... Seriously. You won't have a clue about what half the class is about OR you will have a hard time catching up. Trust me on this one. Professor is great, but the course not so much.
1 quiz per week (good luck) ha! the quiz class average was probably a 40 (no joke) for the year. It is 10%. 1 long research design (3 parts). Book critical review. 2 Exams. 1 reading presentation. Participation is a must, which means if you don't speak -5 pts from final grade. I respect him deeply as a person. Funny guy. Just woudnt take him again
Dr. Contractor is sarcastic and makes lectures interesting. His weekly assignments are very easy. The quizzes decide most of your grade, so you do have to study hard for those.
Easily my favorite professor in the whole school, really caring and really engaging lectures. Also he's really funny
EASY class, fun professor, and no exams. Apparently, he does pop quizzes but we never got them but class was fun to go to anyways.
lectures didn't match up with what was on the quizzes(its mainly textbook, but ppl cheat anyways :( ,3 major quizzes, no test, and keep up with Cengage assignments! Go to class, never know when a pop quiz will appear and ruin your grade! Answers to some Cengage assignments can be found online. Lectures mainly are meant to spark political discussion
No one actually pays attention in this class. If you really want to do well just read the textbook. The only reason people probably even sign up for his class is because of previous years where he would let you take the quiz at home. His three tests (Quiz thats worth 50%) are extremely specific without additional aid.
This man does not know how to teach like the quizzes don't connect with the lectures. Since the quizzes are random, you can have like one wrap up question and the rest is just random. Even though there isn't any exams, the quizzes are random so don't take this class. You can try cheating but beware of snitches . Honestly you don't retain any info.
Do yourself a favor, and don't take this class. This was supposed to be my easiest class this semester, but it turned out being the hardest and stupidest. His 3 quizzes that are in class on lockdown browser are bs, the questions are so random. I regretted taking this class so bad.
hilarious tag because this man's a clown. don't fall victim to past reviews, his class USED to be very decent, getting an A USED to be fair. now this man is obsessed with academic dishonesty and dishonesty in general (i postulate it's a domestic issue?) class is just of the lowest quality, even for a CORE class, nothing more needed to be said.
Dont take him unless you want your GPA to drop
Contractor is very amusing and decent as a person as hes always joking in lectures. However, it is almost impossible to get anything above a c in his class now. He has easy weekly assignments but the quizzes are almost impossible to pass, u never know whats going to be on them or how to prepare for them. U could study for days and still fail.
Extra credit not offered so do not ask him, only 3 quizzes in the entire semester worth 50% of your grade, quiz material could literally be anything he says in lecture and wrap it up/active learning assignments. Rest of the assignments are online make sure to do every assignment, impossible to get an A unless you read the textbook and love POLS.
Mindtap quizzes and active learnings 50%. Tests 50% but will be the hardests tests you will experience. We had to get laptops for his class and they require lockdown browser. Prof is the best but the political science department is the worst. They are the ones who made him do this change. I got my first C thanks to this class.
Worst professor I ever took and probably will ever encounter. He is horrible. I hope he gets fired for how horrible he is. Makes terrible jokes and is a terrible human. You are better off taking a class at Harvard than this one.
If you love yourself and your GPA dont take him.
Contractor himself is a great lecturer and has amazing jokes to accompany topics. However unless you keep up with everything, it'll be difficult to do well in quizzes. Quizzes are worth 50% and they can drop your grade by letter differences. I kept up with all my readings and bc the quizzes are randomized I only passed by with a B-
LOL Goodluck!!! I was enrolled in junior business courses and managed to make an A in those, but made a C in this class. Quizzes are ridiculous and practically impossible to get an A. If you are usually a good student and make amazing grades have fun with your first C!!! GPA KILLER and not worth it!! Take the class online with someone else!
So I took him for POLS1336 and the class did a 360. The department changed the online quizzes to in class test with a lockdown browser. You don't have to attend class but if you want to learn and do well on your own I suggest you attend class. Only thing I really struggled with was the in class test but there are ways to pass!!
Hes horrible. Save your time and money and take someone else. Even if its at a community college- itll be much more worth it.
Worst POLS class I have ever taken in my life. The exams are supposed to be over lecture, book (including practice tests, readings, HW), current world news, and god knows what else. The exams are nothing like any of these and have an average of a 50. Exams are 50%, 20Q 20mins. On the first exam, only 2 people got an A. No curves. DO NOT TAKE EVER!!!
The class is set up for you to fail. Do not take this class. He started the course by telling us that we will fail and then proceeded to tell us that he will not help us study. The class is made up of exams for half of the grade and the other half is online. The online is easy. The exams... good luck. Twenty minutes for twenty questions. VERY hard.
i don't mind his jokes and i know that he knows what he's talking about but it won't benefit you in passing the class. The lectures have little to do with the test and while the learnsmart assignments online are easy, it is very likely you won't pass even if you read the textbook. Overall, he's nice but worry about your grade instead
Tests were very difficult. Lectures did not correspond to tests. He gave one pop quiz towards the end of the semester. His lectures are funny.
Lectures and textbook will not help you on your tests at all. Extremely low averages class averages on the tests, do not take this class with him.
Homework every week and tests in CASA that are 20 questions in 20 minutes. Will not tell you a good way to review and tries to hard to remain unbiased. Will answer your question with a question. Funny sometimes though.
He wants his students to fail. 3 tests, 20 questions in 20 minutes. Class avg for the 3 tests was a 50 and he refused to curve. Rip your gpa if you take his class.
GPA killer. I made practically all A's to give you a reference point. Half the lecture is him ranting and talking ab his children. His tests average between 50-60. He doesn't give a review and his answer to what is on the test is "everything." He gave 1 point for extra credit. Designed to fail you. Take another prof and don't join CLASSmates.
No matter how hard you study, its impossible to pass his class. Exams are worth 50%, 20 qs/20 mins over anything. Refuses to curve or tell us what will be on the test. Lectures suck and you dont get anything out of it. If you care about your GPA, I STRONGLY advise you not to take Contractor.
If you wanna take Contractor, you wanna fail! Hes so rude and the test average was horrible. Going to class and reading the textbook does absolutely nothing. We never knew what to study for exams & he was the opposite of helpful! :)
Contractor's class is definitely passable. Take his advice and don't put all your energy into copying every single note on the slide. Instead, listen to the information he says. Do the homework, quizzes and practice tests. If you need to go to his office hours dont wait until the last few weeks of the semester.
Professor Contractor clearly knows what he's talking about, but out of every college teacher I've had he cares the least about how you do in the class. The tests are ridiculously hard, often pulling very specific information from reading, even sometimes including multiple answer choices that could be correct. His averages tend to be very low.
Bro I legit dont like him at all. His lectures are so boring and useless. He goes on and on about useless stuff, I didnt pay here to fail, I pay here to learn and be successful. His tests are the worst thing ever, so specific and hardhe doesnt give any reviews, he expects to study huge amounts of chapters for one test while each chapter is infin
I am doing better in Bio (for science majors) than I did in his class. I am a straight-A student and this class messed me up. His tests are very random and the lectures don't help at all. Even if you read the textbook, the questions on the tests are very very specific and you would be lucky if you passed his class.
20 questions tests that are insanely hard and specific for no reason. The average grade for the tests this semester were around 50-60 and he blamed it on us. How delusional can you be? Had an easier time getting an A in chemistry, biology, and physics (and I just barely got that A- for this class). Good job Contractor for somehow making POLS hard
The assignments in this class are not hard to do. You can easily get 100 on those. BUT the other 50 percent of the grade is the tests. The way the tests are make it seem this class is designed to fail a lot of students. They are 20 questions, 20 minutes over A LOT of material and pinpoints the most SPECIFIC details . Please fix this class.
50% of the class is just easy blow off assignments, but the other 50% are the tests which are killer. we once had 20 minutes to do 20 questions on 11 chapters. Its crazy, but its doable. you will have to read and take amazing notes on both the textbook and the lectures if you want a goo grade in the class.
Tests are very difficult. Reading and taking detailed notes are vital to success in this class. Test averages were usually in the 50s, but the homework assignments are usually fairly easy and will help bring your grade up if you dont do well on tests. I expected this class to be a lot easier than it actually was.
This professor is a real GEM at UH. I have taken two classes with him, POLS 3326 and POLS 3394, and I learned so much! I believe that it is essential for a student to take at least one class with him. Highly recommend his classes. (:
His class is really hard and he posts lots of lectures every week. His lectures are really long, they're confusing and he goes out of topic. too much studying for a core class.
This class alone with POLS 1336 which are the basic political classes at UH are work kind of the same so it is best to take this course online. The lectures don't really help much on the tests, you really need to read the chapters, so many chapters in a 20 question test. Don't expect that much of a curve.
If you take POLS 3326 with Professor Contractor get ready to read. There are a lot of weekly readings that exams and quizzes revolve around. This is an undergrad class that is treated as a graduate course, so be cautious. If you do register for this course, however, just know that you will be receiving some of the highest quality education at UH.
HIs lectures are very easy to follow but I feel like they are not necessary at all. You need to read the chapters because most of the information you need for the exams come from the chapters. This class is ridiculous because one of the exams was 20 questions over like 10 chapters so I felt overwhelmed and didn't know what to study.
I had a pretty hard time because the first 2 exams were based on solely readings, but as the semester progressed the exams were based on lectures. My saving grace was outside assignments (so easy) because you can still pass the class even if you fail the exams. Plus an added bonus was that the textbooks were online and provided to you for free.
Most of his grade is weighted towards the homework and participation. Which are easy to get a 100 in. His test are pretty difficult but you can easily get a good grade in the class overall if you do well on the assignments. His lectures are entertaining and really get you engaged in the material.
Contractor is one of the best pols professor even thought his exams are hard, but you need to study a lot from the textbook and take good notes and you will be fine. He was very understanding, lectures were so much fun and he has a lot of knowledge and passion for this course. Take him on your first year and you won't regret it.
Cyrus is a wonderful professor and his class is so interesting. I am taking him again because I loved his class. The assignments are easy to follow criteria and are graded fairly. Definitely take him if you can!
