great professor! dr. helfgott is sure to explain everything in detail so there is no confusion. is very helpful and has no problem answering questions. gives a study guide before every test a week in advance. 4 tests, curves sometimes. homework she gives definitely helps your grade and is fairly easy. overall a great professor! take her!
great teacher! truly cares about students and makes time to help anyone out. 4 tests total as well as homework usually once a week. homework is take home and easy extra points! tests based a lot on homework. read the book and come to class and you'll do fine. definitely recommend her!
She is very helpful during the lab portion of Plant Biology. She clarifies what the other professor says and is very helpful. Also, she's an easy grader and has a very nice personality.
Terrible teacher! It's basically like a telecourse, be prepared to teach yourself everything! If blackboard is down, she cant teach, seriously, her class is her reading off power points! Dont take her class unless you are able to teach the subject to yourself
Memorize her slides and you'll be fine for exams. Towards the end of the semester, the exams got kind of nuts (weirdly-worded questions). If you are a Bio major and need to crank out the minimum Bio stuff, take her and get an A. She gives hw, which is free points basically. SUPER EASY
She's probably sweeter than most of our mothers. One of the easier bio teachers. Lectures are kind of dull. Tests are easy-medium difficulty. If you are a pre-med student, you may get an easy A, but I do not think you'll be set for the MCAT too well. Read the book and powerpoints. It's all you need to get an A. She's very helpful in office hours!
She's really a plant person, so second semester bio lab wasn't her thing. She's tough on grading the wrkshts and wants you to put a lot of effort into the questions. but exams are SO easy. if you want to get an A then take her, but if you actually want to LEARN then i suggest taking someone else. she's probably better for first semester bio lab.
Bio lab is hard in general, but Dr. H makes it very doable. She is one of the "easier" lab instructors at Loyola, and one of the nicest ones too. Put forth enough effort and you can get the A. I highly recommend her.
Talks a little during lab and doesn't guide the class too much, but she comes around to make sure we understand and always helps locate things during dissections. Exams are much like quizzes, know the material in the book and you're set. Requires outlines for each section, which if done right help you study. Great prof and really nice, love her.
Somewhat long-winded when it comes to explanations, but you will be thankful later because if you pay attention to everything she says, you will be prepared for her exams. The first one is surprisingly tricky, but you'll realize it is very doable if you pay attention and go over her powerpoints. Should be an easy A- at the very least.
She uses the word ULTIMATELY like every 3rd word. Her study guides are literally a list of all the bold sections of every chapter which really doesn't help you study much. Just going to lecture and looking at her powerpoints are not enough. NEED TO READ THE BOOK!!! Her test questions are WAY harder than it seems. I honestly didn't learn anything.
By far the worst prof I've ever had. Rambles in her lectures, doesn't include all topics in her powerpoints yet expects them to be memorized, extremely unhelpful in discussion. Her exams are 50 questions on a minimum of 5 chapters which just leads to an uneven distribution of questions and her asking for random details. DO NOT TAKE HER
I took this class b/c of her good ratings but I didn't realize they were all outdated. Absolutely terrible teacher. None of the test material is on the powerpoints and the heavily weighed tests ask the smallest details. The review sheets aren't helpful and neither is she. She says she's happy with the class avg despite almost everyone doing bad.
Her exams are HEAVILY relied on the book and they are 80% of your grade. I regret taking her class. AVOID.
As people have said below me, she does require a lot of reading but she tells you that she will test you from the book before hand, shouldn't be a surprise. Also, she curved our tests and allowed us to get over 100% on mastering. They said the class average was awful, it's a 79. Idk what these people are talking about. Don't avoid she's fine.
Absolute terrible teacher! Lectures are useless as she flies through the power points and her "review sheets" are literally a list of all the vocab in the chapter and is no help. Tests are ridiculously hard as that are very in-depth and even reading the chapters doesn't help that much. Did terrible in the class even though I studied A LOT!
Dr. Helfgott is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. You can tell she really wants her students to do well in her class. That being said, her tests were unreasonable. The questions were not anything like what was discussed in class. Going to lecture was useless because the class was literally taught from the book. Not awful but not great.
She was ok. You REALLY have to study from the book. If you do that you could get an A.
I don't know what everyone is talking about, Dr. Helfgott is awesome. She gives interesting lectures and tells you exactly what you'll be tested on. The only bad part of the exams is the fact that they are essay exams. Her grading is consistent and totally fair. 90% and up is an A. She curves the exams, too. Would take again.
Love her so much! She is one of the best teachers at Loyola. Every biology student should take her. Yea, her test are hard but what biology test isnt hard?
She is not an easy teacher! The ratings are outdated. Attending class is not mandatory but she does do clicker points which you get points for. He testes are not reasonable. They are nothing like what you learn in class. The study guides are not helpful, they're just lists of terms that are int he book. I do not recommend her if you want to suceed.
Go to class, the clicker points help pad your grade. The online mastering homework is also easy points too. Her tests are pretty hard though. The was she runs the class is pretty boring. If your not good and independently learning things I wouldn't recommend this course. You literally teach yourself from her power points.
She is so nice and really cares about her students. Go to class, read the book, do the mastering bio, and study before the exams and you will get an A. She does quizzes every few chapters and they are not too bad as long as you read the book. She is there to help whenever so go to her office hours! Class can be boring, but get those clicker points!
I suggest you buy MB only and just use the etext to read the book. save some money. Helfgott is an easy teacher i do admit i mostly self taught this semester and remebered things from AP BIO. read the book, do Mastering bio, show up for clicker points, and do the practice tests in the study area for MB, it helps a lot. I also went to group tutoring
The sweetest lady you will ever interact with in the bio department. She genuinely cares about every student. Go to lecture and read the book. MB helps a lot too. If you go talk to here you can also get a ton of help from her!
I love her to death!!!. She's really easy. Just go to class do the homework and read the book and you'll do fine. She really cares about her students and will do anything to help you succeed.
She flies through her powerpoints. The tests have a lot of thing you haven't reviewed so make sure you know the chapter AND KNOW HOW TO APPLY. Memorization won't get you through.
Biggest mistake I made was that i slacked at the end of the semester. DO NOT slack at all or the class will overwhelm you. As long as you go to her for help, you'll do fine. She will help you as long as you come in with questions to ask.
She makes you believe that she is there to help, but if you actually need her help and are having trouble passing her class, she doesn't want to take more time to help you. She figures that if you are close to passing to just give up. Any extra work for her, she hates. The lectures are long and boring and make you not want to go. Which loses points
Helfgott really cares about how her students are doing. She gives more exams, but they are over fewer chapters at a time which makes it easier to study, and she gives you a study guide. Her tests are difficult, but if you work really hard you'll do okay. The tests are mostly application and go into detail so make you know what's up.
I have an A in her class. She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She follows along her powerpoints, reading exactly what they say, teaching very little of the details. Her last PowerPoint was an hour of topic headings that "we were responsible for knowing." More than that, her exams are unusually specific considering she barely teaches
I was really struggling by midterms. The tests were very challenging and I felt hopeless until I talked with her and began studying VERY hard. She will help you if you ask for it, and tutoring helps too. This class actually pushed me to work harder in all my classes, and I went from worrying about losing my scholarship to making the dean's list.
Helfgott is a great professor! I didn't think her tests were hard, not trick questions straight to the point. Her tests revolve around her power points but reading the book honestly helps so much more. Mastering bio and quizzes are useful for studying. She's probably one of the best bio professors at Loyola. So far I have a B+ but A is doable.
Go into Helfgot's office, and ask questions. She will help and clarify. Use the book and her power points to review for the test then test yourself with easynotecards and then you should be golden for the test.
Dr.H is super sweet and very passionate about what she's teaching. She also expects the same amount of passion and interest from her students. Her quizzes and practicals are very detailed, and I would recommend going over the text a few times. There's basically a lab quiz for every lab except the lab prior to a practical and she has outlines due.
Dr. Helfgott is an excellent professor as well as a wonderful lady. She is very sweet and willing to help you to the best of her abilities. Her tests and quizzes are very detailed, so I would recommend going through the text a few times, but she gives study guides and her power points give a lot of guidance.
Must read the book in order to understand the material but her power points include most of what is on the tests and quizzes. She assigns online homework which is really helpful for exams, and occasionally paper homework. She is a very nice lady, and very willing to help out if you need it and I'm taking her again next semester.
She is amazing! Cares for subject AND students. Remembers everyone's names and makes sure you get the material. Exams are a bit tricky and are 80% of your grade which is scary, but as long as you study from her powerpoints parallel to the book, you will get an A.
Dr. Helfgott is an very good Biology Professor. She explains the concepts well and is always there to help you out. I've never felt more comfortable with a professor. However, her tests are tough, so you'll have to study. But, that's with every bio professor. Would take again!
Helfgott is an amazing professor. She is willing to take time out of her day to help you understand a concept. Her test are kind of tough but if you study, look over her power points, and go to her for help you should be able to pass the class.
Helfgott is by far one of the most enthusiastic biology professors at Loyola. Her power points come straight from the book ( you may find yourself not really needing the book unless you're detail orientated). Her exams, including the final, are non-cumulative 50 question multiple choice. Attendance is taken via Top Hat.
Was on the verge of failing, went in to speak with her and started focusing on the study guide book she recommends as well as asking clarification from her during office hours. She was always more than happy to help me, and was so nice. Felt incredibly discouraged all semester until I started doing better on exams, last two saved my grade.
Class is simple enough. Teach yourself using the book and online notecards and go over her slides if youre feeling crazy. Her lectures are pointless though. She does not explain very well and likes to explain things in a round-a-bout way. I wouldn't recommend but if you end up having to take her you'll be fine.
D. Helfgott is an amazing professor. I really enjoyed her lectures. Her powerpoints are posted on sakai. I barely used the book mostly powerpoint and the bio study guide book. I would take her again!
Although she is a tough grader she does give a ton of partial credit on anything she can. She will make time for you during office hours and will walk you through any concept again, and again if you need in order to get it. She doesn't do study guides so be prepared to learn it all. Great class overall.
She really cares about students and wants you to do well. Highly recommend her.
Absolutely wonderful professor! I really don't enjoy biology, but she made me like it as much as anyone could. She truly cares about all students and really made the transition to college easier. She is also always willing to help, I can't recommend her enough!
She is a very caring professor. She will remember your name if you come into office hours and is very willing to help. She goes pretty fast in lecture, so reading beforehand is helpful. Her tests are pretty difficult but she's pretty clear on what you need to know. I would take her again if I came in with more background knowledge on biology.
Dr. Helfgott is so nice and caring, she really wants her students to succeed and share in her love of Biology! This class isn't easy, but if you pay attention and review the PowerPoints, you should do well. She likes to take off lots of tenths of points on labs, but is overall a great professor who is always available to help.
She's a nice and caring professor. Her lectures are pretty boring and she just reads off the slides; she's more helpful during office hours. Top Hat is attendance, so go to class or do it from home. One thing I should also say: VERY TEST HEAVY. You really have to read stuff so as not to get confused with the wording in her tests.
I'll admit, Dr. Helfgott does like to read off her powerpoint during lectures, but if you JUST PAY ATTENTION in class and READ HER POWERPOINTS thoroughly before every quiz and test then you'll easily pass her class. If you seriously put in the work for this class then your grades will reflect that; I find it helpful to do her study guides/notes.
Dr. Helfgott is truly a wonderful professor and person. Her lectures are a little fast-paced and the material can be challenging, but she offers so much help outside of class with her office hours and discussions. She's incredibly sweet and down to earth. If you're struggling, she will help you 100%. Also, she loves to curve tests. TAKE HER CLASS!
Dr. Helfgott is an amazing professor. She doesn't give away A's but earning an A is very doable. Buy the textbook because she expects you to read. You have to go to class because she utilizes tophat almost every class. She gives very clear reviews that outline what to read in the textbook and what to know from her slides. Overall, she is great!
Dr. Helfgott is wonderful for gen bio lab! She makes sure everyone has a complete understanding of what were doing and gives very thorough PowerPoints for the practicals and quizzes. Super friendly and really encourages everyone to stop by her office hours.
She is the sweetest person ever! She cares about her students and keeps her lectures interesting. I had started off the semester reading the bio book, but her exam content never strayed from her PowerPoints so I started just reading over the PowerPoints to study. She gave a quiz and exam every three weeks, and the final was not cumulative.
Dr. Helfgott is very sweet and genuinely cares about her students. Her class is by no means a breeze but if you genuinely want to learn she is great. Your grade is 80% tests (5 total) which is not the best but I would still recommend her.
Diane is such a nice lady!!!! She clearly explains concepts and is available for her students. There is a lot of course material but if you are willing to put in the work you will do great.
Dr. Helfgott made it so that lectures more interesting than others. We used Top Hat which helped people stay engaged and made sure everyone was on the right page. Her exams and quizzes aren't too bad as long as you study. She is kind and always available when you need her. Only thing is she can be strict about attendance points.
I have never been taught by someone so passionate about biology. Helfgott is extremely helpful during office hours and has a very dry humor. Get to know her
A very charming woman, is willing to help you understand anything you have qualms about. Focusing on her powerpoints as well as her study suggestions will make the class very handlable. Doing well on her quizzes is a good indicator on how you will do on her exams. Dr. Helfgott makes biology fun. :)
Sweetest professor ever! The exams cover a lot of content but she will help you with any questions/concerns. She made the class very fun and I enjoyed it the most out of all of my classes.
She is a tough grader in the aspect she takes tenths of a point off for everything which can be annoying. All her quizzes are fill in the blanks which are very specific. This class is not a blow off class, and you will actually need to study to be successful. She is not the worst professor; however, she can be annoying at times. Go to office hours.
she is THE bio teacher to get your freshman year. I did not take AP Bio senior year so I was scared I would be behind but she makes every lecture easy to understand. this class is not "easy" but I would never call it hard. You just have to memorize 70% of the ppts and ask questions during discussion. Most students like her and her hilarious laugh!
Helfgott is a super sweet lady and is very accessible outside of class. As others have said her exams (4 + 1 non-cumulative final) are content heavy, but studying is completely manageable and you come out of the class feeling like you've learned something. Know her PowerPoints well and complete her study guides she provides and you'll do fine!
Helfgott is amazing. She genuinely cares about all of her students (she knows everyones name by end of semester). She does in-class TopHat, so showing up impacts your grade. Her final is non-cumulative which is really nice as well. Do the Mastering homework (dont just Chegg the answers), show up to class, and READ THE BOOK. Youll be golden.
Dr. Helfgott is a phenomenal professor who genuinely cares about the success of each and every one of her students. She is a professor who takes the time to get to know every student's name in a 100+ person lecture. Her exams and quizzes were always very fair, and she provides you with the resources you need to succeed in her class.
Amazing and awesome
Amazing and awesome!
Super caring, really wants to hear your questions and will explain everything a billion times to you if needed. I like that there are 5 exams, so you don't have to study as much material for each one.
Do not take her if you haven't taken AP Bio. She moves at lightning speed. She's passionate about what she teaches, but you're gonna have to do a lot of studying on you're own.
She's super easy, but READ THE BOOK. Her lectures can be confusing sometimes, but she really cares about her students. She gives study guides and does top hat in class for grades. She always moves the masteringbio back a day and its easy. There are 5 tests (less material per exam) and her final is non-cumulative. One of the best bio teachers
since its a lab you clearly miss a lot if you miss one lab session. she explains well and her powerpoints are nice and organized and most of the time thats all you need, the book can give you more details. her quizzes and exams focus mostly on whats done in class, harsh grader but also lots of partial grades. no extra credit, an A needs hard work.
Dr. Helfgott is an extremely nice lady and tries to make herself really available to students. The class is extremely difficult if you havent taken AP Bio before. She moves at the speed of light and her tests are super hard. Even though she is hard, she does try to make student comfortable and go & will help you one on one if you go to office hours
Dr. Helfgott is a real gem when it comes to teaching. Her lectures are always very interesting and she is clear on what will be on the exam. 4 exams and the final exam is non-cumulative, which is really nice. She has 5 quizzes but she drops the lowest one. Super accessible outside of class and willing to help anyone with any question they have.
She's so nice first of all. She really wants you to know the material, BUT you have to put in the work for it!! Her quizzes are reasonable and some of her exam questions can be tricky at times, but overall, you should take her
Everything that's on the exams is directly off of her powerpoints. I didn't open my book once since my first exam 1st semester. If you go to lecture and pay attention and review off of the PowerPoint slides you'll do fine.
She moves really quick through lecture material but she makes sure everyone is on the same page and understands what she says. She always asks you how things are going and really shows that she cares. Sometimes she can explain things weird but she'll always take questions and take time to help you.
Helfgott wants her students to succeed! She can go fast during lecture but her powerpoints are very thorough. She uses TopHat for participation and she makes the most useful study guides that cover everything needed for the exam. 5 exams, noncumulative final, couple of quizzes, and occasional homework. Exams are fair and very reasonable.
AVOID, and I cant express this enough AVOID if you are NOT the strongest in biology. Her labs (now online cause of covid) you have quizzes every lab beginning of the class, she runs through her lectures so quickly and just expects you to know the basics. SHES A TOUGH GRADER, during your lab worksheets she will mark points off the tiniest mistakes
She is a very understanding and sweet prof. She gives extensions on pretty much every assignment. Her grading system is very reasonable. Her quizzes and tests can be hard but you get a hang of it.
The class was online/covid. Lectures one day a week mandatory, during lecture she didnt really lecture. She would just answer Qs. You are required to listen to the lecture on your own time instead of get lectured to during class time. Quizzes/tests difficult/raised her voice at students who she didnt trust on camera. Not easy by any means!
I'd say its an average class. You just have to do your work and you'll be fine. She does like participation and if you ask questions and she gets to know you, i think she becomes more chill. It's not a class you will have to worry about unless you don't do work.
Okay Professor, but all of lectures are done outside of class time. She expects you to memorize a lot for exams and youre not allowed to use notes. Exams are also worth 75% of you grade, so if you mess up severely on one, you wont be able to get an A in the class. Almost has weekly quizzes, each are 10 questions.
Her lectures are very long. They aren't straightforward AT ALL. If you are a hands-on learner or haven't taken bio in a long time DO NOT TAKE HER. She doesn't give homework barely. She doesn't really give the practice to help apply. Her tests are worth EVERYTHING. There is no room to mess up.
I loved Dr. Helfgott! Although her lectures can get long and she moves very quickly, as long as you are keeping up with her and study you will be fine. She is very very sweet and gives extensions on almost all the homework. Her tests aren't too hard / aren't easy either. Just be sure to have an established study plan and be one step ahead!
Dr Helfgott is an amazing professor. You have to put in the work to succeed in her class, so if you'r a biology major or Pre Med, take her class!!!
I really liked Dr. Helfgott. She's very sweet and explains things well but you have to meet with her outside of class. She goes through the lectures very fast in class but I think that's to be expected. She always extends homework deadlines if you ask. The only downside is tests are worth 75% of your grade.
Helfgott is so precious, she is super sweet and wants us to succeed but, her lectures are confusing and it makes it hard to keep up. Ppl usually end up learning all the material the night before the exam. If u keep ur HS bio notes and watch YouTube videos on the material you'll be fine. She curves most exams and gives extensions on almost every hw.
She's very sweet. Although, her class isn't great... exams are worth a lot of your grade. I haven't been able to figure out how to study for her exams because the questions she puts are really confusing. I would honestly recommend a different professor. She's not the worst but there are probably better for a 101 class.
Out of all my professors, Helfgott was my least favorite. She doesn't care about her students and every time I went to her office hours, she seemed annoyed and didn't give straightforward answers. She just reads off the slides, but the slides are pretty thorough and is what you need to study for the exams. Her exams are not too bad either.
Her class is very hard, especially for freshmen. Her exams were really hard, she is very sweet though.
Speeds through lectures, by the time I got the title down shes already five slides over and theyre all full of information. You will be studying a lot outside of class, read the book for exams and apply yourselves, the tests arent easy. She is very sweet though just goes way too fast.
Our classes consist of Dr.Helfgott reading through 250+ slides (per unit), most of which aren't helpful/necessary. No group activities, no extra credit. It's difficult to study for her class & exams are a majority of your grade. Her tophat question points are based on right or wrong answers. You find yourself guessing & losing participation points.
Dr. Helfgott's class was my worst grade freshman year. It's a ton of lecturing and textbook reading, and she absolutely flies through slides. If you miss class, even due to sickness, she does not allow you to make up points. Compared to other professors, our exams seemed harder. Not impossible, and did give generous curves though.
She talks really fast, but she's so nice and clearly passionate. The SI was a life saver, but she also gives super generous curves for all the tests.
Dr. Helfgott's exams were detailed, and the only way to do well on them is by practicing labeling diagrams and by reading and quizzing yourself on material from both the lab manual and her slides. Quizzes were much easier though, and she does drop the lowest quiz grade. I find her to be a better teacher for bio lecture than bio lab.
Literally love her. Her lectures are content heavy, but that's any bio class. Her presentations have a billion slides only because she breaks things down to make them manageable. I've aced several tests with only two hours of panicked reviewing right before, so they aren't too hard. Only thing I disliked was the mandatory attendance :(
Loved her! She was a bit fast going through lecture, but she put her lectures like a story and it related to one another. She gives amazing curves like 4-5 points back. 5 exams none are cumulative. Answers emails very quick and wants you to ask her questions!
If this was a different lab I would feel differently, she was a nice person, but for a 111 lab, it's ridiculous. Don't recommend taking her it if you can't deal with information overload. She's sweet but unclear on what she tests on. Quiz every week. Know how to do lab practicals before your first one!
She just showed a ton of slides and had a lot of tests. On the tests you didn't get a help sheet like the other classes and there were people walking around the entire tests.
Grade based on effort. She does skip things in lecture sometimes, but this is because she spends extra time reinforcing more important concepts which is far more valuable considering you should read the whole chapter yourself. Lots of very useful catchphrases for considering nuance, and if you put in a minimal amount of effort you will do fine.
Dr. Helfgott is great, she explains the content very easily and has clear expectations that are not hard to meet. The tests are a large part of your grade but are usually pretty easy and always contain extra credit. It's not rare at all for students to get over 100% on the tests. If you are ever struggling just ask, she will help.
she tries to fit too much information in one test most of the time what I study don't even be on the test she's there to help but in my experience its hard to even know what to ask lectures boring , doesn't give extra credit for real good thing - tests are always multiple choice
Although she is very sweet, I felt like she just sped through her slides, and it was hard to follow. You have to read the textbook to even really understand. Other 102 classes seemed to have easier tests and got cheat sheets, or a lowest test dropped. If you struggle with understanding biology like me, I recommend taking someone else.
She's bearable if you have to take her but I do not recommend her. She is very test heavy and does not give much of a curve and no cheat sheets. She is old fashioned with her format and you have to do a lot more work than you'd need to with other professors, just to learn the same amount of information. She also likes to yell during tests.
Helfgott is a very energetic professor and you can tell she likes to teach. However, she is pretty disorganized and her lecture slides are confusing. I would recommend definitely reading the textbook outside of class.
Dr. Helfgott crams a lot of material into exams. She goes over a ridiculous amount of information in one class session, and goes way too fast. Compared to other Bio 101 professors she makes the class very difficult. I would not recommend taking her class if you can avoid it. She also assigns a lot of homework that often doesn't align with exams.
helfgott is honestly such an angel, she was so kind all semester and really cares about her students. her tests are not difficult if you review the textbook and lectures and really focus on the concepts, plus she let us use a full notebook page as a cheat sheet. she also does group quizzes, and the final is not cumulative. overall, she's amazing.
Pros: extremely knowledgeable and always willing to discuss science with you, working hard in her class pays off! she is always accessible and will discuss anything in her office with you, hilarious and involved in student's lives. Cons: she is a bit picky with grading, especially for general biology and will take off 0.1 points for something small
Her personality can come off as strict at times but she genuinely wants her students to do well. Prelab quizzes are straightforward, most questions on the exams come from the quizzes. She will call on people who aren't raising their hands. Most questions are based around anatomy and the dissections done in class. She provides extra tools.
Dr. Helfgott she is sweet but the only reason why I gave this rating was because her teaching style wasn't for me. Her lectures were quick and she crammed a lot of info on slides, it wasn't organized. Was hard to predict what to expect on exam, if you like her take her but it wasn't a good experience for me, class felt very hard and fast paced.
Dr. Helfgott is clearly passionate about biology and wants her students to get the most out of her class. She understands the feeling of the unknown as a freshman in college and is willing to help students develop habits for success. I learned a lot from her class and it was also entertaining. You will have to study hard for her quizzes and exams.
Professor Helfgott is really sweet and cares about her students. The class can be challenging, but staying on top of the readings, lectures, and using study aids like unstuck study can help a lot. Overall, it's a rewarding course if you put in the effort.
I love Dr. H, very down to earth and can compare the concepts of biology to real world analogies. If you have any minor background in AP Bio or IB Bio its very comparable and likely reteaches the same material as an advanced high school biology course.
Dr. Helfgott gives so many resources to prepare for her exams! Use them to study, or else you will fail. She posts everything you need online and makes special office hours, especially during exam periods. Her lectures can be long, but pay attention as she lectures to explain the topics better than what the lab manual provides.
She is so sweet and makes lectures interesting. Pay attention to her 'stories' - they are very helpful for exams and learning different systems. She makes herself available to answer questions and is kind and accommodating. Take her if you can.
Super polite and nice. If you can, please take her.
She's a good professor, good lectures, speaks loud so everyone can hear. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there's in class work every day that's due during class. I'm taking her again in the spring because she's super easy going and reliable
Taking her again in the spring! Really sweet and funny. Very approachable. Don't be scared to participate and ask for help! A lot of extra credit opportunity! Attendance matters
