He gets off the subject alot. Doesn't cover very much in lecture that is going to be on the tests.
Had him for Anatomy lecture and lab. Leaves the room during lab and leaves you to your own devices. Hates answering questions but loves making you feel like an idiot.
Very scattered brained and very bad at explaining things
Dr.Scherer is very unclear and leaves you on your own. Never answers questions and is never in there to ask them. In lecture he never talks about the material covered on the tests. He loves to see his students fail.
Awful inst. Does not teach, leaves room, doesn't like to answer questions. Very unprepared for classes when time to test. likes to make you feel stupid. My recommendation is that he be replaced ASAP. If you have to take Anatomy don't take his class!!!!!!!!
He is awful. Doesn't teach, leaves the room. Makes you feel stupid.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! HE'S A COMPLETE SCATTER BRAIN AND I QUESTION WHETHER OR NOT HE'S ACTUALLY A DOCTOR!
Dr. scherer is a terrible inst, leaves the room a lot. Is never there to answer questions, enjoys making you feel stupid. Very scatter brained. Spends more time on jokes that aren't even funny. Never goes over test material. Never teaches.
Awful! A W F U L ! ! Sooo many people dropped this class, and I understand why. Dr. Scherer is a disgraceful instructor -- never helps. Seems to have an agenda to have your degree take as long as HIS did!
Dr. Scherer is a great teacher. The other comments say he is awful but those are the people that just want everything given to them. Take Anatomy with Schere if you really want to learn.
oh man.... just terrible!
He isn't a very good lec. teach. I made an A, only b/c our study group studyed nonstop. He likes to make you feel like and idiot and not answer your q's.
Schere/Chiropractor not DR.has very limited knowledge of his subject matter. It is a huge dis-service to both the students and OSU to hire such an enept Department head. he freely admits it took him 4 tries to finally pass anatomy. OSU should truely investigate this guy's credentials..looks good on paper..that's it!
DO NOT ENROLLin anything he teaches! He can not teach worth a crap! His lectures have ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with his tests! His tests are like graduate level questions. He never gets through the material, and you are responsible for learning everything on your own.NO review, No Help!I would never take a class with him, even if it involved a million$
No doubt this class is challenging but what science class isn't. If it's easy everyone would do. It's a hard class, lots of memorizing but is definatly manageable. At the end of the semester he assigns 3 papers and gives u a chance for an extra credit paper which help out ur grade alot. Act interested in the material and your grade and u'll b fine
It makes me very sad to read all the comments above (except the first one). I had Dr. Scherer during summer school and ofcourse it was VERY hard. I think everyone needs to stop talking so negativly about him because he's so hard...(cry me a river). Get over it! I honestly think Dr. Scherer is the best teacher there is!
He does not teach! He does not help. He is a bad "teacher." He does not teach
What an idiot! You first have to KNOW the subject before you can teach it. He's not hard because HE doesn't teach it. The course is hard because YOU teach yourself. OU doesn't even except this course anymore since he took over. Too bad OSU doesn't care anymore. Shame on this whole school for allowing this embarrasment of a teacher.
I have had him for both anatomy and physiology. He just stands up in the front of the classroom rambling on about nothing. The only good news is for those people who just want it to be easy, his tests seem to be getting easier as the semesters go by, because of all of the horrible criticism he gets every day. But if you want to actually learn...
I took this class a couple of semesters ago and it was a hard class, Dr. Scherer gave us the opportunity to learn. There were so many of my class mates who were there thinking it would be easy, wrong! Dr. Scherer taught me how to study and to learn more about anatomy than I thought I was able to learn.
As everyone else has commented, this teacher dont know and has no INTEREST in teaching..during lab, if we dont know where a specific vein is he will expect us to know where it is!! and during lecture.O MY!! i have him for atleast an hour...and during his lecture..the 45 min of it..he wil talk about one thing..and then 5 min he will say "lets move o
Good class, had to do more work than I immagined, I was used to my other courses that I had to only study a little bit and get a review and earn an easy grade, Not Here. He "Dr. Scherer" expects you to read and study, and be prepaired before class-new to me, glad I did, I actually learned quite a bit. he is a tough instructor but does care.
I had him for a summer class and it was alot of hard work. He explained where to get examples of test questions for each chapter of material covered. This class was tough but fair, not alot of instructors would give you hints during an exam, or let you replace your lowest score with your quizes. plus he gives extra credit questions.
He is very helpful. It is a tough class, but what do you expect, it's not High School. I wouldnt' want to skate through this class, my future patients depend on what I learn & retain.
This is a hard class, but I am learning so much. Dr. Scherer has really helped me by not spoon feeding us and answering my questions. A lot of my classmates "the ones who do not study much"sure dislike Dr.Scherer, But I love his teaching Style and I fell confident that I will do extremely well in the nursing program when I get accepted in. Thanks
This guys a joke ... go elsewhere. Cares more about making sure everyone knows how important he is than actually teaching.
Tough class.!!!!!!!!!!I made it. Dr. Scherer's sure pushes you and wants you to really learn the material. He had very helpful analogies and funny little sayings to help make thematerial stick. If you really want to "own the material" like he says, then take him, Glad I did. Plan on a lot of work and go to the open labs, they were so helpful.
Very hard class. I fell very confident with what I have learned taking this course wth Dr. Scherer. (Summer at that!)What a mind exploding experience!!!!!!!,Dr. Schere was very velpful and has a great ability to guide you through this toughclass.Listen intently and do what he recommends, I did after 2nd poor score and then my grades improved alot.
He makes you teach yourself which while irritating forces you to really learn. He can be a pain but he will help you if you need him.
Very slow. He will randomly start talking about lawn mowers and dry wall. Not a good teacher he is normally 20 minutes late. He is the only anatomy lecture teacher GOOD LUCK and I am SORRY
prof is knowledgable in the material, but is always stating"90%of my students have to take this class again" great encouragement huh always late for class and lecture is always over your head, funny person though nice enough just need improvement on how to teach students not other doctors!
He does not teach. He expects you to read and get the info on your own. If you can not learn like this he may not be the teacher for you.
Taking this class for anatomy. I definetly would not recommend him he lectures on studying instead of the subjects. if you don't want a teacher-get his class.
Dr. Scherer is an ADD instructor who self-medicates with coffee. If YOU show interest, he is VERY helpful...he helps those who work hard. Stay in anatomy lab until the end of class...he WILL come back and show you ANYTHING you want. Sometimes he is goofy, but it's amazing how it helps you remember things. Put forth the effort and it will pay off!
As a person = he's nice, hilarious and fun to be around. As a lecturer = he's not cool. He lectures over the fact that you need to study, NOT on the actual content of the course which is a total waste of time. You will learn a lot if you spend a lot of time in lab because you are on a journey of "self discovery".
I'm pretty much just rehashing what everyone else is saying. Dr. Scherer is a really funny guy-really sweet-willing to help if asked; HOWEVER, the Anatomy class I took was a mess. There were a lot of lectures on "how to study." It is basically a self-taught class with TONS of reading (chptrs take about 2 hrs ea. to read). So beware & prepare!!!
this class is murder! i literally dissected my brain. Exams are the hardest ever, and you have to know every tiny bit of detail. Everything is self study, and no curve. Take this class somewhere else! More than half my class dropped. I do not recommend taking him, you can find a better prof somewhere else. trust me dont wast your time
This class is hard, but it isn't impossible. It does take a lot of time outside of class to get a good grade. Some people may not like Dr. Scherer, he is a tad conceited. But, he does know his material and if you show interest he will help you. All you have to do is ask. I don't even know if I am going to pass this class, but I do think he is hot.
I really liked Dr.Scherer. He is a good professor. He expects students to really put forth the effort in his class and prove that we are responsible students. He says he tries to weed out the weak ones so they don't end up working on him in a hospital some day. I think its a great Idea. IF your not serious about learning, don't take him. A++
I took anatomy and phsyiology with him. He loves what he teaches. He is very helpful and a strong teacher, he will not spoon feed you. He wants you to know the material. Lack of knowledge could result in death or injury to your future patients is his attitude. Do not be afraid to learn !!!!
This is literally the worse teacher i've ever had. He spends a lot of time telling stories and making jokes and we don't get anything covered and then he cramps like 3 chapters into one week because we have a test to take the next week. You pretty much have to teach yourself if you wanna learn anything. I don't recommend him to anyone!
He loves to teach, but not a good teacher. He's very egocentric. If you have a tough time understanding material, he's good at using metaphors. But, his time management is not good. Shows up to lab late, spends two lectures on a topic when there's 3 questions on it. Puts himself on a pedestal, and tries to down grade intelligence of students.
he is a joke! You wonder what our tuition goes towards. This is a self taught class by a prof who is so full of himself and he is just a chiopractor. Take it some place else, you will learn more. Well you will be taught more. Between his stupid jokes and crappy attitude you just funble your way through
He is the worst!!Not a good prof at all. Nice guy but all his courses are self taught. He does not teach. He is so self centered. Cover 1 - 2 topics then tests over 4-54 chapters at time, leaving you clueless. Tells stupid jokes and stupid stories. DO NOT take him!!
I am geting my prenursing sciences completed, I am glad I had Dr. Scherer. He had always helped me any any one who would ask, but he did not spoon feed us. So many of my classmates just complained because the exams were tough but I pulled a good grad with a lot of studying. His stories and analagys were helpful. I had him for anatomy lab-great
hHad dr. scherer this semester for anatomy lab and it was one of the most interesting sclasses i have taught. I had another prof for the lecture. He was so helpful, explaining the way he did help me understand it better. It is a harddddddd class, but i need it for nursing. glad its over. Take hime to learn, if you are lazy, dont take him.
It is a shame that Dr Scherer is allowed to teach college students. He is very unprofessional. He says he is trying to make the class fun with his silly stories, but he makes the class harder by not teaching. You cannot expect to learn everything from an instructor, but you can expect to learn very little from Dr Scherer.
What a helpful class. Most of the things I took on my HESI exam to get into nursing was covered by Dr. Scherer in this class and my anatomy class with him. I scored 95% on the Anatomy & Physiology portions of the test. Thank you Dr. Scherer for the crazy stories on how to remember difficult things. Take him to learn. Tough, but great teacher.:)
Wow,what a final in lab. I think I pulled it off. I want to post this because Dr. Scherer would create all kinds of helpful analogies to help us learn the material and did it help. take dr. Scherer if you want to learn. Be prepared to do a lot of work though. Hey, I am going to be a nurse someday and I had better learn this material.
"Dr. Analogy". In his summer class right now & it is INTENSE! I might get a C but hopefully a B.Scherer is a phenomenal teacher. I am awake every minute of his class because he has me CRACKING up and learning! Please disregard all the ratings that say he doesn't teach. They are lazy and expect to float thru RN school. Scherer is awesome & cares!
Seems to care more about being the "cool" teacher, cutting up and telling stories, than actual teaching what we need to know. Is late to ever class by at least 10, including exam days. When he actually gets down to teaching something, he's good at it, but again, spends very little time doing it. Mostly a self taught class.
You can tell Dr. S knows the material, but my problem with him is that he doesn't teach it. I realize college is a lot of self study, but with difficult classes like physiology a book just doesn't cut it. I need for him to expand on the reading, and at a rate that will help me for the test. His idea of lecture is talking about random stupid stories
I am so dissapointed of Dr. Scherer. I do not know what his problem is but he doesn't like to teach my classmates and me. He is always late to class by at least 7 minutes. I do not appreciate him doing that, expecially on test days. I see that everyone else has had a good experience with him but not me. Yea he encourages the students but I wish tha
great teacher - would take all his classes if I needed them. One of OSUs' best
I had Scherer for Anatomy Lecture. Ive never had a teacher that would ramble on so much about absolutely nothing as him. He knows his business but when it comes to teaching he is too hyper & will go off on the wildest tangents. And if you're not the teachers pet... good luck getting any ?s answered. I would NOT take any of his classes ever again!
took his lab and lecture. would rather killed myself. had to audit class bc he does go off and wont help you. good luck for anyone who has him but if u get the choice to have someone else I HIGHLY recomment you do. sorry
First of all let me say that this course is absolutely awesome since you get to learn on two human cadavers, which is way more real and informative. That being said between lecture and lab it is like having two different classes thats why this class is very hard and Dr. Scherer couldn't have been any less engaged teaching this class. Very very hard
Excellent professor. Not an easy class, but he has a unique way of teaching the material so that you really learn it.
He's very knowledgeable and pretty goofy. He gave us a lot of resources to help with the flood of information we had to learn. The book and the atlas are a must but you wont need the dictionary.
This class is awesome but difficult because of the large amount of information. I like Dr. Scherer's enthusiasm for teaching, funny in class, gets your attention, occasionally his mnemonics and dances are helpful, and willing to answer questions. However, while funny, he strays from topic (anatomy) often. Learned very little about anatomy.
I read the reviews on here prior to having this prof. Some stmts are right on - others are not. IT IS A HARD CLASS. Period. I don't think it has as much to do with HIM as it does with having to study your butt off 24/7. Be prepared - I suggest taking no other classes if you're taking Anatomy Lecture and Lab. Focus and take other classes later!!!
Scherer is a terrible professor. He goes off on tangents and loses concentration. He thinks he's funny. Not helpful at all. He doesn't go over anything in lab because he's too busy making jokes!
I would suggest you find someone else to take this class with. He NEVER covers any of the material. All he does is comes to class and is a clown. When test time rolls around you don't have a clue what the test is going to be over. He'll give you a slight clue the night before the test, but none of that stuff shows up on the test.
Absolutely awful and completely unhelpful. You're responsible for everything in the book. Wastes class time clowning. Look at the positive comment from 12/19/09-"most interesting class I have ever taught." That tells you everything you need to know about the positive ratings. Take this class elsewhere-much easier at UCO or OU. OSU-OKC's WORST.
Dr Sherer transcends the place where students are in hopes of preparing them for where they will eventually be. He is very difficult, but he insists that everyone either knows their stuff or fails. It does no one any good to get an easy grade when this is the basis of your career. He provides a gateway to a career. Not everyone gets through.
Dr. Scherer does not spoon-feed the material from the textbook during his lectures. If you prepare for class by reading the text beforehand, the lectures are a perfect compliment and function to solidify the concepts. I learded a ton from Dr. Scherer and found the class extremely rewarding, but you have to be willing to put in the work.
Dr. Scherer is an awesome professor, he really challenged me. I was having trouble at first but once I studied ahead of class I started to get what he was doing with his goofy sayings and silly way of teaching style. I have to admit I learned more than I thought I could. Now in physiology with Dr. Scherer and it is all starting to come together.
pointless lectures
He's an awesome teacher for lab! Lecture kind of sucked. He does use jokes to help you remember. I suggest going to any open lab you can. The class is hard and if you don't study, you won't make it!
Dr Scherer is an excellent professor that cares about the success of his Students. Don't pay any mind to the people complaining about him. His class is challenging but very rewarding if you take responsibility for your own learning and don't make excuses. I can't wait to take his physiology class in the fall. You wont regret taking his class.
The people who gave positive feed back must be people who can easily absorb info from the book with ABSOLUTELY NO INSTRUCTION IN THE CLASS. It was very frustrating. If you ask a question he will tell you to go look in the book. I was asking for a reason!!! I stayed in right up to withdrawal only due to liking lab with another prof.
Lectures are funny but not informative. This was my first Anatomy class and it was very easy to get lost when he was teaching. Tests are unpredictable. It might as well be a self study course with a book that is overloaded with information. We only used a very little portion of the information the book provided.
Horrible teaching. He did not help anyone with anything. Do not bother asking him a question because he won't answer it. He thinks he is amazing but I honestly could have learned more from a rock than him. The only reason I passed was because I took anatomy in high school and remembered a few things from it.
I did not like him AT ALL. He is rude and thinks hes funny, but really he is just immature. He talks so much about wanting his students to succeed but really I think he just wants to prove to people that Anatomy is hard. Do not take him.
This class was amazing, Dr. Scherer is unusual at first because he just jumps right in with the material. Most people don't like him because you actually have to read and study the material, and it is a lot of information for one class. A good study group is essential!
Dr. Scherer is funny, amusing and has interesting ways of teaching. Participation is VERY important and so is reading. He goes over in lecture and is easily side tracked. He is known to go off on a tangent and good luck getting a answer to any of your questions. He is also rude. I wll not be taking him again unless absolutely necessary
His class is no joke and for good reason - would you want a crappy student working on you in the hospital? No. He's a tough grader - you know the material or you don't. Be prepared to read a LOT, work your ass off and spend 20-30 hours on take home tests. Above all, be prepared to actually RETAIN the material and use it! Thank you, Dr. Scherer :)
makes you work for your grade - if people are complaining, they didn't try hard enough. be ready to read a lot, study a lot, look silly in lecture (it HELPS) and learn from someone who genuinely cares. he's a hard professor but he cares about his students. know lecture inside and out because you will need it for lab 100%
before you take his class do yourself a favor and look up ENTJ personalities - if you don't think you can hang with him, don't bother. I can't verify he's an ENTJ but I'd be surprised if he wasn't. he comes off as rude, but as an INTJ I can vouch for him - he's not, he just doesn't have time for stupidity. know your material.
He should NOT be a teacher, I'm sure he knows the material but he doesn't know how to teach it. He doesnt go over the important stuff in his lectures. He does stupid movements w catch phrase that no one get and says if we don't do them we won't pass. And he doesn't answer questions and is rude. Only way to pass is to read the whole book
He's rude and doesn't teach. This should basically be a self taught class because you're going to have to read the entire book to learn because you won't learn from him
I Asked A Question And He Made Me Feel Stupid. I would not take him if you don't have too
I left him a bad review before and I have to say he's really not that bad
If you want to pass anatomy DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He spends most of class lecturing about how half the class will fail. The test have nothing to do with anything he covers in class. He tries so hard to be funny, but he's not. Save your time and money people.
Dr scherer has his own way of teaching, it isn't very clear and it's hard to grasp what he is talking about. He is nice and will tell you about anything, he is more relaxed in physio but just hard to grasp. Take home tests get you to study and get ready for final but they are still hard.
He is the hardest professor that I have ever had. He is very smart and he will let you know it. He is very cocky, rude and condescending and will make you feel stupid if you ask a question. He cuts no slack on his test. If you think you are smart, he will prove you wrong. He randomly gives pop quizes but he does give some extra credit toward.
Let's be clear, Dr. Scherer is unique. I audited the class with Dr. Ford, who was awesome, but I felt like after the second test, I needed to back off and watch, retook the next semester. That is the SMART thing to do if you want anything out of this class and are struggling. I chose Dr. Scherer b/c he was the hardest. Ask and you shall receive.
Dr. Scherer is great. If you like feeling like you earned your grade and it wasn't just handed to you he is the right professor for you. He's very smart and has his own style of teaching. He really wants his students to succeed and if others disagree it's because they didn't try! Go to class, read the chapters, participate and you will pass!
Lets be clear. Dr. Scherer is hard, like extremely hard. By far, the hardest class that I've ever taken, BUT, if you actually sit down, do the "long and in depth" study guides, and STUDY them, and when I say study, I MEAN STUDY, you will pass. No study? no pass-ee.
Dr. Scherer can be a bit silly, but mostly it's all to keep you engaged and help you learn and remember the bajillion things you are supposed to know by the end of this class. If you are not prepared to ask questions, answer questions, and do silly things, this class is not for you. Thank you, Dr. Scherer!
Let's start off with he knows what the hell he's talking about. That being said, he is very sporadic. His lectures go from tangible bits of information to diarrhea of the mouth in .5 seconds. Half of the time, I wouldn't even go to his lecture because it would be absolutely pointless. He tries to be WAY too funny and it breaks the concentration.
I had him for human anatomy last semester and physiology this semester. I am glad i will not have to take him again. I would recommend a great study group to pass his classes. That is the only way i passed. I had a high B the whole semester but the final brought me at a 79.6 in which he would not round to a B.
I was nervous to take him from the reviews, but I got an A. I was nervous for nothing - Study everyday, come to lectures & take notes on what he talks about you will do just fine. He gives so much xtra credit for participation too, there's no reason to make less than a B. I only have Micro left, but so far his class was the easiest science class.
Meant to rate higher previously
Very intelligent professor. You can tell he knows his stuff. The class is extremely hard. You can't slack or be lazy. He has a sense of humor and a different style of teaching that may not appeal to some. I enjoyed his personality and his teaching style.
Dr. Scherer definitely knows his stuff. He comes up with things to help you remember. If you do everything the way he tells you, you will do fine. He does give quizzes but he tells you exactly what it's going to be over for extra points. If you want to feel like you earned your grade this is the person for you. If you want it easy dont take him.
I took physiology during the summer. It was very tough and you definitely have to work hard for your grade but it was doable. He makes labs interesting. He offers a pretty good amount of bonus points. The study guides provided for each exam were very lengthy but really helpful. He has an interesting way of lecturing but makes the information stick.
He is very negative and passive aggressive. After about the 4th week, I recorded him go on for 40 minutes about how well he teaches and how you will fail if you cant learn the information the way he teaches the information for you to learn it. Oh and if you dont participate in his hand & body gesture games youre not learning and will fail.
Dr. Sherers class was tough. There was a lot of reading and written work. Tests were really hard but I was able to pull a B out of the course. Most pass his class, he gives a lot of bonus work, I did all of it and it helped bump up my grade. I did learn a lot from Dr. Sherer, he was very knowledgeable and had interesting lectrue. Good Teacher
Just, no. He thinks his way of teaching is the best, and only way. If you don't laugh at his stupid jokes he gets mad. Was the most annoying prof I have ever heard in a lecture. He does give you "good" ways to remember some things, but he over does it. Tests aren't that hard but you have to learn what he is looking for. Don't take him.
bottom line, don't take him. Common sense.
Make sure you read the assignments spelled out ahead of class and most lectures of Dr. Sherer are amazing. Many of my classmates who did not read or study much hated his lecture because they didnt want to work hard, they just want to know whats on the test to study. We are going to be nurses, so learning physiology is important, take Sherer
He's an excellent instructor, he wants you to really learn the material not just slide by, he realizes the importance of grasping the concepts and not just trying to pass. If you really want to learn take him if you are looking for an easy way out and you don't want to succeed select someone else.
Q/A professor no other instruction from him himself. Class was supposed to be twice a week for an hour. Only had class / Q/A once a week and lasted about 10 to 15 min. When asking for clarification on what you may have missed thats not an option. Took him twice absolutely refuse to take anatomy with him again.
