run for your life, either because of the difficulty - or the weird russian hat
If possible, find a way around this class. Very difficult.
Hard prof...but you'll learn
My God this was the hardest class I have ever take at OU, I recommend that do anything to avoid this class and the professor.I'm glad I passed and didn't have to take him again. I suggest taking ACC 310 & ACC 311 instead
Forces you to learn, will drag an answer out of you or die trying

I Work Hard, I Learned a lot, not as bad as you might think.
he sux, he'z sucha sonava****, and he'll let ya know that he is the minute you go to that very first lecture. He expects you to be able to learn the material just by making you read it, and then he asks you if you happen to have any questions.duntake'em
Excellent Teacher. Thoroughly enjoyed this class. He knows his stuff and is happy to answer any questions
Yeah he makes you feel like an a** when he calls on you and you don't know what the anwser is but he knows his stuff.
This teacher is not helpful and I would do just as good if I didn't even go to class.
This class is supposed to be an "Intro" to accounting...course material is very scattered, and a heavy load of work is thrown at the beggining while everything is turned online - no class meetings for the first weeks...terrible!
The class is really hard. He is too smart to be teaching an intro class. He thinks everyone is on the same boat as him. He picks on you if you don't know an answer.
very hard class, he's very knowledgeable and expects the exact same out of you no matter how many other classes you have or how much you have to work
Cool Guy, but very hard. Lots of homework. Not flexible. Exams are hard.
All these students that are trashing Sidaway as a jerk or unfairly hard are either lazy or dense. Yes, Sidaway's classes are difficult. It's a difficult subject for most, but Sidaway does a better job as a professor than 99% of those I've had.
People who don't like him are lazy. He gives a large work load, but if you do it all than you will completely know the material and should get at least a 3.0
he was very hard... I studied alot... but didnt do good... he said the first day of class, I am not here to teach you, I'm here to answer your questions
Not an easy class at all, so don't take him expecting one. You will have to know your stuff, and he expects you to. Requires homework but it helps you learn the material.
Not that good. He is not very helpful. His exams questions are right from the text book quizes so it is not that tough. He is also somewhat annoying.
Extremely intense & demanding. Dumps a ton of work on you initially, and conducts "virtual classroom" for the first couple of weeks. Expect 20-30 hrs of work/wk, no time to dedicate toward other classes. Knows his stuff, but too much for us i
Very intense, but you can learn a lot. Fellow knows his stuff and has no issues in explaing things until you understand. Very very informative and useful class. Try to take with an easier class.
An EXTREMELY smart man. Too smart to teach a beginning level class like this. You will LEARN, but unless you had ANY prior accounting knowledge don't take him. Does not give enough time on EXAMS and they are tough. Although outside of class he is nice.
Don't take this course unless you have 83934762 hours a week to study for it. If you have done well in proir ACC studies you will probably be fine though. I worked very hard in this class & recieved a 2.5. Midterm and final are impossible.
Is not helpful and trys to fail all students. He is proud to be hated.
Ok, Who ever thinks this guy is so great just look at him for a minute sit in his class and realize that the stuff hes teaching you is horrible in itself and he just can't teach the material cause hes too smart for a beginning level class.
Horrible teacher. He feeds on being disliked and in that respect he succeeds. He is very intelligent but is much too focused on making his classes difficult than on actually trying to teach the subject (such as auditing). Avoid him if possible.
lots of work. randomly calls on people and forces answers whether you know it or not. i kept up on the work (14 hours a week)and got a 3.6.
Don't expect to learn a thing from him. Expect to spend a lot of time reading the book and doing homework problems. Not to mention the annoying chapter outlines that must be typed and posted...grrr If you take him you will REGRET IT!

Failed the class by a 0.1. He doesn't teach. He makes you learn it which is impossible with accounting. Avoid him if you can.
Worst professor ever. He thinks that by dumping a ton of work on you that you may learn something. Only take this guy if you want to spend every waking minute doing work for his class.
very hard and asks alot from students
have you ever been afraid to go to class because the professor will verbally abuse you until he has succedeed in getting at least a half ass answer out of you because if you have this professor will suit you accordingly.
Requires a lot of work - you will have to study to do well. Most work is submitted online, only two assignments handed in hard copy, and two in-class exams. Prof is more than willing to help if you talk to him outside of class though.
Wow, this guy is honestly a horrible experience. I mean on a 1000 point scale, you can BS like 300 points online, but then there are 2 behemoth exams worth 500 points that can destroy you. He is very smart but way too demanding, expects you to be a CPA.
Sidaway is a very good teacher. He will not force feed students information but requires them to learn themselves. Spends classes going over homework and answering questions. I learned alot in this class
For the person below my message, if he is a teacher then he is suppose to teach us. Whats the point of going to school if we have to teach ourselves. I am not paying for school so i can teach myself. I expect the teacher to teach me but this guy doesn't.
For those of you who think you can handle a little extra work to pass this class, DONT.Stay away.Stay far away. His online quizes are child's play compared to his Exams, and really dont help you prepare at all. Run far away from this class. RUN!

WORST AND I MEAN WORST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD AT OU!! I came here to learn and pay to learn and this guy I just hate his class. Very unreasonable, and dont ever ask him to understand that you have more things in your life than just his class. HE DOESNT CARE
Do not take this class with him. He gives way too much homework and terrorizes you in class. Trust me...stay out of his classroom!!!
EASY?-NO, UNCLEAR?-YES, HELPFUL?-he thinks he is,but he's just NOT! This class was a living horror, all those sleepless nights, hours reading, trying, taking quizes, doing outlines didn't pay off= he's exams are just off the wall!!! STAY AWAY!
The amount of work wasn't the issue, as much as the speed we covered it. Class was full of non accounting majors who had to learn the basics of accounting in 3 weeks by self studying.
There is only two tests, two worksheets, and two online tests, the rest are just quizes and homeworks, alot of them, dont expect to get a lecture about the material just expect to go over pointless problems which do not help u understand****.

Very knowledgable and always willing to help. He's not a prof for lazy people who need to be spoon fed. Do the work and ask questions, and you'll do fine. Be careful not to overload your schedule. This class will keep you busy, but it will be worth it.
Very good teacher who requires students to learn the material. Do your homework and pay attention in class you should be fine. He will answer any question in class or through email
SUCKS DO NOT TAKE HIM. UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF
top-caliber person from many aspects, skilled communicator, very competent. His 200 class is meant to be tough to weed out the underachievers (the people saying that he sucks). Much homework, hard tests, but very fair grading. i got 3.8
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!
Hardest class i have taken even though i got a good grade. He is knowledgeable but does not explain well. Take Free
As an accounting major, I can honestly say...DO NOT take him. He will teach you absolutely nothing. He just really doesn't care about his students at all. AVOID at all costs!
Please, no one take this man's class. He is boring! You would not succeed if you suck in Acc. like I do.
I would not suggest taking his class
Very knowledgable and always willing to help. He's not a prof for lazy people who need to be spoon fed. Do the work and ask questions, and you'll do fine. Don't be lazy and complain; either do the work, or drop the class. You're in college.
When he says you need 15 hours a week devoted to this class, he really means 25. You do the math.
this guy sucks.smart guy, but way too much work for an entry level acc class. dont take him
This professor is the worst that can be out there. he doesn't have any teaching skills, he gives you a ton of homeork, everything he gives it online, and he doesn't help you at all. He thinks you know everything and he speaks very fast and he needs some professional help.
Tough class. Not helpful at all!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! He's not interested if you learn it or not so he doesn't take the time to make sure you understand it. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!
Had him 18 years ago for three classes. To this day he is the absolute WORST instructor I ever had. Major loser. Likes himself and only himself. This is what happens when you go into the Accounting profession and FAIL! You become him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! YOU HEAR ME? YES YOU!! DO NOT TAKE HIM, YOU WILL FAIL, THEN GO HOME AND CRY. PUT IT THIS WAY, IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL IN HIS CLASS, BE PREPARED TO DO 4 HOURS OF HW A NIGHT. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
The people who complain about this class are a bunch of whining slackers. Sidaway is tough, but you walk away actually learning and retaining something from this class. Don't take him if you are lazy and are uninterested in learning.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! WORST PROFESSOR AT OU, by far!!!!! He's IMPOSSIBLE! Expect to FAIL and lose your money for the course. He's a HUGE JERK with horrendous teaching skills. He will continually pick on you in class and won't let up; his goal is to make you look and feel like a complete idiot.

Do not take accounting with sidaway, you will want to jump off a building if you do, tons of homework quizzes on webct, exams are part multiple choice but mostly fill in the blank, they're terrible. Everyone I have talked to said "I feel so sorry for you" when they asked who i had for acc; EVERYONE
Shame on Oakland for hiring him.
NO MATTER WHAT - DO NOT TAKE HIM! HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR THAT I HAVE EVER HAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...
required to purchase 3 books for this class--plus 10-20 hours trying to get through the required homework/projects/web ct quizes...etc. the amount of time and work needed to get a decent grade from this professor does not correlate with the mere 3 credits i received!!
I Graduated 10 years ago. Looking back at the class where I learned the most, it was definitely Sidaway. I liked going through it, HATED the final. It consisted of getting the financials for a random company and pricing each stock to within $1 of the book value for each. Only 7 of 20+ finished the class. Definitely a good experience if you’re willing to study up.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is a great auditor and motivates his students to be just as great. I definetly inspired me to be more open towards auditing profession and that is why I made it my career. I would definetly recommend him to any student. People the cry about him are the people that are not tough enough to withstand his strenght and ambitions to teach. If you take his course prepare to absorb a lot of material and learn what it takes to survive as an auditor and prepare to work
HORRIBLE!!!!!! He is the worst professor at Oakland. He made my cry my whole semester because of the stress he has put me through!

Should have been a 6 credit course. Does not care if you learn. Seems like he wants you to fail. Needs to be more straighforward like Cataldo and change his tests.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! You will want to cry upon entering he is difficult, unhelpful, tests are impossible and anyone who tells you otherwise has too much time on their hands. He made my life hell! He makes you suffer his explanations are impossible to understand.
Good guy, but you have to work really hard to do well. Really worth it and you learn a lot if you put in the effort.
This guy is a ****. We're here to learn how to do things, and when we don't know the answers to his questions, he decides to move on. He leaves you hanging. Arrogant prick who is here for a paycheck, doesn't care about his students. It's guys like this that are holding the University as a whole back. STAY AWAY FROM SIDAWAY!
Hard class overall. You have to work but a great teacher. I learned alot from him. His teaching style is not typical. You learn, then ask questions. Plan on spending 6+ hours a week out of class to do well. Would take prof. again.
A lot of hard work and studing is important to do well in his class. If you do that then his class should not be that bad.
"SIDAWAY", as he refers to himself, is a good teacher, BUT the exams are very hard and he makes sure you know everything forward and backward. Only 12 out of about 60 people were left at the end of the class... you know, us hard workers with nothing better to do but STUDY.
Sidaway..a.Good teacher as amatter of fact he made you want to learn. It's just those exams..Hmwk is easy, you do need the book and please go to class. But he did let us out early all the time. Acc/finanace majors should take him for sure
he is an excellent 1st acctg teacher. kind of difficult, but it is worth it. i would take his class again - he's really helpful! he is pretty clear in lectures, and the structure of the class is quite conducive to learning accounting - homework due and quizzes are all posted on-line, creating fast approaching assignment deadlines. recommended.
This guy is not very helpful, and "his class is the most important". I have never been asked of so much in my accounting degree. With assinments everyweek, one big project (three parts) and constant reading from two text. The worst part is if you ask a question you end up walking away without a direct answer. One of the worst and he knows it.
The only students that give this professor a high rating are the ones who live for accounting. He will never give you a direct answer to a question and lives to see people fail and drop. I'm a straight A student and have enjoyed my experience at OU up until this point. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!!
If you are able to learn on your own, take him. If you actually need explanations and ask questions in class, take somebody else.
Put him in the category of genius at accounting, but can't relate the material to students. He will not give you direct answers and covers 2 chapters in an hour. Must avoid if you want above a 3.0. Tests are known for being impossible. Take someone else . SERIOUSLY!
Do not take this professor. He explains good, I am not sayin but why would you take him when his final exam, which you most likely will fail, is worth 50% of your grade. Do not take him. His tests are the worst and it is just too much work for acc 200. I don't know about the other classes but 200 was a pain. Avoid......
Very hard material, shows no mercy. A TON of hmwrk. If you take him, DO the homework in advance, and study just as he says...evryday, at least 3 hrs! And study the same material over and over. Difficult exams, one big paper.
I really loved him as a professor, he's awesome. Very nice and helpful, test are hard and a different format from his teaching and the book but he curves so it's allright. He teaches you really well and tries to help you understand concepts, not just memorize. Really good, i would love to take him agian.
To contradict the previous statement, "he teaches good." He teaches well. And, "the final, which you probably will fail." saved my grade. I bombed the first two tests, under 60%, then received a C+ on the final. He replaced the first two grades with my final grade. His methods are strange, but they are helpful. I passed the class with a 78%.
Graduated with an Accounting degree (late 1980s). I had him for several Accounting courses. He definitely wasn't my favorite professor at the time. However after graduating and getting a great Accounting job, I realized that I learned the most from him and was more than prepared than others. Definitely take him if you are majoring in Accounting.
Hard class, but if you're going to major in Accounting you're going to want to take him. As difficult as the class is, if you do the work you will walk away (1) smarter for having taken his class, and (2) with a solid foundation to build on for all future Accounting classes. Stick with him and he'll find a way to get the material through to you.
