Prof. Charlesworth is not clear on any of her details for assignments. The class was extremely hard, and she changed my grade multiple times without even telling me why! I do not recommend this professor at all!
She's fun, entertaining and makes the class more enjoyable! I'll drink to her next time I'm out at a bar :)
I loved this class and my professor and would love to take another class with her!
Wished she would have lectured a little more about the actual text, it would have been easier to complete and understand our assignments. watching you tube all class was fun
Dr. Charlesworth is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's hilarious and her laugh is infectious. She's got an obvious passion for teaching and it's truly endearing. Thanks for the great semester, Doc :)
Dr. Charlesworth will keep you motivated to work. Assignments are challenging yet pertinent to what is being discussed in class. She makes the material fun, and is always available for her students. Take her classes!
Very fun class and I learned a lot, but too much homework!
She is very engaged with the topics, and is very passionate about communication studies in general. I did not like the Persuasion Portfolio though, I thought it was too much work for the lessons it was supposed to reinforce, but that is just one person's opinion.
She was really helpful and i enjoyed her class
Makes class fun. Just don't swear. Make sure to read.
Dr. Charlesworth will challenge you, but she's one of those professors that you strive to impress. The work load is pretty heavy, but assignments are relevant to the material and will help solidify concepts. Take her classes - you'll work, but you'll learn a lot!
Dr. Charlesworth always goes out of her way to help her students.
Good prof. Very interesting and entertaining. Work load is very, very, VERY heavy...
Dr. Charlesworth is an awesome professor. She will challenge you to do your best. She's an all-around brilliant professor who goes above and beyond for her students in and out of the classroom.
Go Teach!
overall a good teacher but a little tough though
Though her class is difficult, Dacia really cares about her students and how they are doing in the class. She will do anything she can to help a student understand concepts and be successful in this class. I would take another class of hers anytime!
Gives a heavy workload, but will give help if you need it. Wants her students understand the topics and will try to get you to understand. I like her personality, but not sure if I would take another class of hers.
Shibby
Dr. Charlesworth is most excellent. There is never a dull moment and she also inspires you to be your best. I am truly blessed for taking her course.
you will work your butt off
Great class!! Tough but worth my time. Enjoy the challenge of digesting Plato, Aristotle, Burke, etc. Grading tough, but gives you ample chance to build upon your grade. Prof has great sense of humor, leads dynamic class discussions--class never boring!
Com 300 is definately an intense course! If you are taking it, then get ready to really get down and study. As a professor on the other hand, she truly entertains me.She likes to have fun and is very helpful. She really cares. Although classes with her are generally intimidating, its worth having an experience with her at least once!
I have mixed feelings about my professor, at times I really embrace her ability to push me to do my best, and yet I feel I spend way too much time on this class that my other classes have been a bit neglected, not to mention my life in general
Very knowledgeable
Strong skills in teaching, however class schedule is inconsistent and somewhat distracts from learning the material in a classroom setting.
Doesn't compare to other 300 level classes. There's a lot of writing, critical thinking, and expectations. The prof knows the field inside and out. She expects students to come to class prepared and WILL ask why you came if you don't know anything from the chapter. She tells you when you're wrong and is clear and concise. Highly recommended.
Knows the topic very well.. Though, the work load is tough. THe only down fall in this class is her grading rubric and lack of clarity for overall topics and assignments.
Dacia is great! She is flexible and lets you know what she is looking for in all assignments!
A lot of busy work in this class which keeps you very VERY busy. Very fun professor in class and is always in a chipper mood! Be prepared if you are not a morning person!
This course is pretty cool and Dr. Charlesworth is great. This will help develop better critical thinking skills. This will better prepare you for further Com classes. Great situation.
super smart, sometimes too smart...i felt inadequate at times but its okay! lots of work...all the time. im learning a lot though
Be prepared to work! Dacia is a great person and someone I could see hanging out with but she is a very tough professor and the class is very strenuous/ time-consuming. You cannot be too sensitive if you take her class because she is not afraid to tell you like it is and that you are wrong. Take this class while taking easier classes. Good Luck..
An intense course that keeps your on your toes. Shes known for giving lots of work, but always willing to help. Shes witty and smart, so dont test her limits! But shes a bunch of fun. She can be intimidating, but also seems like a fun person to hang out with
Class was super challenging, but prof kept it interesting and informative as well. Definitely the most challenging class I've taken, but worth the experience overall.
Prof definitely knows topic well and keeps class interesting. Overall, I feel like I've learned a lot, however, class is one of the most challenging classes I've taken. Can be intimidating and not for those who don't appreciate challenge.
She's very energetic and friendly. Is extremely knowledgeable on the course material. Very much wants to see students succeed, but not without a considerable amount of effort on the student's part.
Very high workload, all essay tests and long papers. Teacher is very helpful.
It is a super hard class, but I have to take it for my minor. However, Prof. Charlesworth is an awesome person, but a tough professor.
Very informative and knows subject well
She comes off as an easy professor because she is so bubbly and energetic. That being said, she will make you critical think like you've never done before. You have to work really hard to get an above average grade. Class discussions can be fun, and I love her sense of humor and personality. But be prepared for class and never come in late!
Dacia is the most demanding professor I've ever had. She requires so much reading and other work that it is difficult, as a student, to really appreciate or "dig deep" into any of it because you're just trying to get it all done. That being said, she is organized, enthusiastic, and helpful.
29 page syllabus is intimidating, but leaves little room for interpretation. very encouraging, but demanding. pushes students to stretch their minds.
Yesterday we had a Jeopardy style test review, one of the topics was "Stupid White Men". I cant help but think if it was a man teaching the class and everyday they had something like "Stupid Black Women" as a topic, how long would I have a Job
Professor Charlesworth is one of the best professors I have had in my time as a student. While she is a tough grader, she gives you all of the tools to do well. She is very easy to get along with and makes herself available for more help when it is needed.
One of the best professors I have ever had! She really enjoys teaching and you can tell. She stresses critical thinking so make sure you can backup your opinions with lots of analysis. Workload can be overbearing but the challenge is rewarding. She's such a fan of rhetoric that it inspired me to go buy Aristotle's "Rhetoric"!
Dr. Charlesworth is such a sweet person, but her class can be very demanding. Be prepared to read a lot and use the text for analysis and critical thinking. Although the assignments are challenging, Dr. Charlesworth does whatever she can to help. Never be afraid to ask questions and to show uncertainty.
I love Dr.C. class. She will push you very hard, almost to the point that one would think that they cannot do it. That is what makes it so sweet when you realize that you can. She makes us better students!
Dr. C. is the best and thorough teacher there is. I tell others about her. I love having her.
Dr. C. is a great and fun professor..sure, she'll push you to do your best, but you have fun along the way! Would definetly take her again and recommend to others!
Dr. Charlesworth definitely brings a lot of energy to the classroom.
Shes great! I love how perky she is, because it brightens my day when shes bright
Shes wonderful, def. makes me happy I switched to communication major!! Shes also a great speaker
A hint: she loves women's-studies type stuff--the textbooks she used for this section are essentially all about women's rights--I swear if you base all your papers on women's issues she will love you.
Dr. C sustains a perfected blend of skill building challenges with awesome learning opportunities. Assignments require you to exert your best skills, but are ultimately extremely educational and very rewarding. Dr. C's course material and teaching methods are unquestionably some of the top I have encountered in my college career!
She does love women's issues and rights. She is also easy to get along with if understand the issues and the rights of women.
Most enthusiastic prof I have had thus far at IPFW. She loves what she is doing and that makes it fun for the students! She is very difficult though, so come prepared!
Remarkable teacher. Makes her classes energetic and fun. Though the course content required to complete...ouch...but she is willing to help any student that's willing to make an effort.
Never...EVER...Forget to address her without stating DR. first.
Things were a litle murky at times, but for the most part everything was spelled out. Pretty strict grader, but very fair. A bunch of energy!
Dacia pushes her students to complete work most initially think is impossible - until the work is finished. The feeling of accomplishment after completing one of her classes is like no other. Take her classes! She's infinitely knowledgeable, compassionate, and a lot of fun.
Dr. Charlesworth is an amazing professor that pushes her students to think for themselves and express their own opinion.
Dr. Charlesworth helps bring to life newer concepts related to the topic of persuasion while highlighting foundational concepts. She is clear in her goals for the class, which give students clear direction on how to accomplish the various goals established. She also encourages a lively dialogue.

Students can tell that Dr. Charlesworth loves teaching. Though she may seem difficult as a professor, students are able to leave her class knowing that they learned something, and also know that they truly did earn their grade in her classes.
Dr. Charlesworth is fun to have class with because she uses many different channels to help students learn. Also, she pushes students to perform at their best.
A spark plug, but that can swing both ways.
Good professor, very responsible for students, really helpful!
Professor Charlesworth is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is incredibly knowledgable about the subject matter and most obviously passionate about teaching. I truly feel honored to have been taught by her. Thank you so much, Dacia! :)
I don't care if someone is a feminist or not, but their personal views should be kept out of the classroom. Yes, we are studying Women, Men and Media, but it is only focusing on women and patriarchy instead. I get that it's a problem, and I get that it's rampant, but I could've been warned had the class been named Women and the Media instead.
She was very self engrossed and vain. She misplaced an assignment I turned in and told me that I didn't turn it in. I had to be very insistent that she look for it. When she finally agreed to (while rolling eyes), she found it. She answered e-mails when she felt like it then ignored my pleas for help on the paper.
From the classes that I've taken with her, she is a true college professor. She's very helpful and extremely nice. She's a tough professor, but that's the way it's supposed to be. You actually have to earn your grade in her classes.
Good class. Very excited to teach. Great professor. Difficult material.
She is very outgoing which is great, however her teaching style is not so great. She doesn't tell you exactly what she is looking for to receive the best grade possible, she expects you to exceed her expectations rather than just telling you what she wants in the first place. Strict grader, and needs to clarify her expectations better.
One of my favorite professors ever. She has an energy that is extremely infectious and makes it a joy to attend. I HIGHLY disagree with grading style. She tells you what she expects and then will fail you if you give her what she said. Always must do more than what she wants. Best professor. Worst grading style.
She is a great teacher, but very difficult. Makes students go the extra mile for an A. She does not teach "blow off" classes.
She's crazy! I'm not liking the grading style though. A good, fun, interesting class killed by the fact that you do everything she wants and you get a C. Also WAY too much info on campaign projects and it's very hard to see what all needs to be there because it's spread out over 3 or 4 different papers, powerpoints, etc.
you rock!
She has a great personality and is very passionate about her job. However, this class gave me a lot of anxiety. Her grading style is very harsh and her standards are probably the highest of any IPFW professor. I always tried to exceed expectations but always seemed to fall short.
Professor is interesting to listen to and will answer any questions you have. Very hard grader, and hard to know what she is looking for in projects. She is not afraid to tell you her opinion about anything. Makes light of some topics and think this is inappropriate for a professor. Overall an average professor, not my favorite not my worst.
She has a great attitude and enthusiasm for the topic, and her homework assignments were simultaneously fun and informative. I learned a lot.
She is very nice but her grading is hard, that being said she seems relatively fair with it because even her favorites get the heat at times. Her personality is cool yet she still radiates intimidation. She sort of looks like Monica Lewinsky (before the weight gain). It wouldn't be wise to take one of her classes if you are taking on a full load.
Dr. Charlesworth pushes students far in order to achieve very high expectations
Dr. Charlesworth= my hero.
Dr. Charlesworth is an excellent professor that engages you in the learning process. I can't remember a time where I could recognize concepts outside of class and use terms properly. She does an amazing job of making you want to learn.
She is great if you like to work hard. She has improved her policies to better work with students.
High workload & a tough grader. Too much time spent on formatting of papers not enough on course material. Some papers have little or no direction and some aren't even covered in the class or book at all. Good lecturer when she does actually show up and teach. If you're a scholarly masochist this may be the class for you.
The current numbers are all wrong. Every category should be roughly the same as the current easiness level of 1.7. Take her class if you dare.
I came on here to tell others taking Dr. C's classes to see it out til the end. She says it will all come together and it did. Have never been so proud of a B+. I don't get the 2 comments below. She always tells you whats needed and even shows samples. She's the only teacher I had this semester who was always prepared. Take her but you will work!
Hands down the toughest instructor in the Com department as far as the amount of work you are given and what is expected out of you, however she makes you want to learn and retain what you have covered in class. Procrastinators should look elsewhere for an instructor. You WILL work for your grade, but the payoff is well worth it!!
Hard- Yes (That's what she said). Fair-Yes. Hot-Yes. Feminist-No (at least not in class). Looks like Monica Lewinsky (Burke p.69) -actually... yes. Great Teacher over all. She's hard, but don't let the reviews prevent you from taking the class. She is more than willing to help whenever it is asked or needed (Charlesworth p.3)
She is a great professor! Loves what she does, and wants her students to love communication as well. She is a great professor, but she is one of the hardest profs I've had- she wants us to learn as much as possible.
Wonderful!Wonderful!Wonderful! I've never been so intellectually pushed, the reward was my education. It wasn't easy, but well worth it. Out of EVERY professor I've ever had she is the most clear about what she wants, and that's for us to embrace education (she is also clear in her 20pg syllabus.) Easily approachable and VERY caring, if you care!
Dr. Charlesworth has prepared me to continue my education beyond the undergraduate level...at least I now feel that I could be successful!
She really expects alot out of her students and can be a tough grader at times but she obviously loves to teach and makes class entertaining.
Charlesworth has high expectations but provides an atmosphere for learning that I believe is unparalleled to many teachers. By defying the conventional norms of teaching she gave me a very unique experience. I admire her ability to relate so well with the student while at the same time maintaining her authority and credibility as a teacher.
I am not one who enjoys class a whole lot, but over the semester I actually found myself looking forward to our class discussions. Dr. Charlesworth is turning out to have high expectations, but she has easily become my most favorite professor that I have had. She is extremely intelligent and a great teacher. Equally important, she is really fun.
Great class!
Dr. Dacia Charlesworth has been of excellent help to me this year. Her vibrant energy made me look forward to attending her course, and i hope to have her again!
Dacia has a "she's tough" reputation, but she is incredibly fair and helpful. She is a wonderful professor who has a true passion for helping grad students learn! I want her on my committee!
Challenging, but well worth the effort. The learning I am experiencing is amazing and I look forward to each class. Her comments on my work are the impetus for self-discovery and empowerment to be a successful grad student.
COM 500 is a course that is designed to help students understand the COM graduate program. She is very helpful and engaged, makes students believe in themselves and never discourages anyone. Very tough grader, but productive and honest.
Never a dull moment in COM 500. Must be ready to learn and work hard.
Dr.C is the best professor at IPFW!
Dr. Charlesworth is an awesome professor who is difficult, but loves teaching and is willing to help when needed.
Dr. Charlesworth is one of the best profs I have ever had, but she is terribly diffiuclt. She's one of those profs that even if you spend a week working on something, you probably won't get an A. She really enjoys her work, and that makes coming to class enjoyable and totally worthwhile. Take her classes! Even though it's a killer, it's worth it!
This is IU specific but if you are from IU, DO NOT TAKE HER FOR C204. SHE IS THE WORST. she grades the harshest How you write MUST appeal to her liking or you won't receive a good grade. No matter how much effort you put, it won't help your grade. oh and during the pandemic when students were suffering and other profs were good, she didnt care
she really loves what she does, but thats kind of the problem. she doesnt realize that students have other classes and their whole lives dont revolve around her writing class. she has given way harder assignments than any other teachers in this course. she thinks her work only takes an hour to do, but in reality that assignment will take 3hour
Wow, just, wow. Expects you to maintain material from so many sources containing different subject matter during each week, and makes the course very confusing. I think she has a lot of time on her hands, and I'm sure if she understands a students workload in 2021. If you get her as a professor, DROP THE CLASS. RUN!
If you are taking another class and have a full time job of any kind, you will fail. Unrealistic workload and expectations. I think her heart is the right place, but this isn't Yale's graduate school, honey. Rather than wanting to learn you will feel discouraged, overwhelmed, and confused.
Prof Charlesworth is honestly really nice and enthusiastic, but she grades way too hard for C204. This class is not supposed to be majority of the work I have for weeks. There is too much work and emphasis on little things.
