VERY difficult teacher, gives good lectures but you need to study study study.
not one of the best professor sorry, let me rephrase that. one of THE WORST professors that a student can ask for... he called me back to ask why i did not do so well on a test only to only to deprive me more from my self esteem.
His class is a JOKE for a three unit class. You have to be at least on your English 1C level in order to satisfy his want for a PERFECT critical thinking and argumentative paper for his midterm and finals. He is not very approachable and considerate. At the end of the semester, there's only 10-15 students left in our class.
Lee can come off as condescending and his class is hard, but he does care. All you need to pass the class is in the syllabus. READ IT. There's 2 essay exams and a MC Midterm. The final is a group paper/presentation. He has study guides for each chapter online. I took his class for the summer and I walked away with a B. I would take his class again.
This professor was so awful that I had to put up a review. He is extremely difficult due to the tests he give. The subject (History of Asian Americans) itself interested me a lot but after this class, I almost hate the topic. His tests are unnecessarily hard and his lecture had no coherence with the stuff he tested on. Gives you arbitrary grades.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Don't take him.
THE COMMENTS BELOW ARE NO WHERE NEAR INDICATIVE OF THIS CLASS. YOU WILL LEARN, YOU WILL STUDY, YOU WILL HAVE A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR US HISTORY. HIS LECTURES ARE OUTSTANDING AND COVER ALL THE MATERIAL NECESSARY TO PASS THE CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROF FOR ANYONE WITH A SPINE AND EAGERNESS TO LEARN
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, ONE OF THE WORST TEACHERS
I attended a 4 year University before taking this class and this was one of the hardest classes I've taken. Lectures are pretty unorganized. There's no structure to it. His lectures are also pretty pointless, as everything on the exams are in the book. He took points off of my essay exam for no source. I've never heard of using sources on an exam.
Worst teacher ever!!! Seriously don't take this class. Hard to satisfy when it comes to essays. Went to him to talk about class and he say his class should be your priority. Give me a break no one passed his class this semester.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! He makes things much harder then they need to be. His assignments are confusing to say the least and when you ask him he says figure it out. I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
Generally not approachable.
Lee is what I call a 50/50 teacher. His lectures are amazingly interesting and passionate. HOWEVER he is soooo difficult it ruins any interest or passion you have about the class. He makes the class way tougher than it needs to be. has Napoleon Complex, short guy who takes pride in his difficulty of the class. DON'T TAKE UNLESS YOU ARE UC STUDENT
I wouldn't take this teacher even if I were desperate! If he doesn't like you, he won't help you. His reasoning for "well rounded students" is fine, but his expectations based upon them are sky high! Take him under no circumstances, you will waist your time and well, his too...
Don't take his class!! He has great interesting lectures but the tests and homework have nothing to do with what he teaches. He makes everything so difficult. First day of class he told us "if you get a C in my class it's an A in any other class" he is the worst teacher I've ever had! I have never worked so hard for a B
This professor is a D**K. He looks down on his students and has made me feel like an idiot countless times to the point I was afraid to ask a simple question. His comments on my papers were so harsh they discouraged me. Do yourself a HUGE favor and DO NOT take his class.
I took his Sociology 41 and History 41, his lectures are interesting but his class is HARD. You really need to pay attention in lectures, read the book, and do some outside research. His in class essays need citations, he's a tough grader but he is fair and I was one of the few who got a B in the class, you need to memorize acts, years, people, etc
Class is pretty hard but manageable if you really work hard. He is a very good lecturer but will REFUSE to help you outside the class so make sure to talk to him during class if you have questions. His essays/midterm are not too hard, as long as you read the books. DON'T PROCRASTINATE
DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS! I made an account just to share that And I'm just taking the online class ! I can't get full credit for ANYTHING I do!He grades way to hard ! Especially for an online class , and he doesn't communicate what he expected from the assignment until after you turn it in and get the half credit for it! I've gotten no Cs until now!
He is a passionate professor. The material is interesting and I learned a lot. Work hard on creating outlines for the in-class essays in preparation. Plan for the group project. Showing real effort put into the group project will help a lot. Good luck! Overall: Passionate professor. Interesting material. Work hard/ plan ahead! & Good luck!
he's a harsh grader for an online class and doesn't really make clear what his expectations are. you need to do extra studying for the tests too. 10 minutes for 10 questions. i wouldn't recommend the class but if you do take it, be prepared to work a lot.
He is very passionate with his lectures but he is a harsh grader especially for essay finals, it has to be exactly how he wants it or else you won't get a good grade. I would recommend this class if you're up for it
This professor grades too hard considering the directions are not very clear.
I really dont know what this guys issue is.. Every announcement to the class, email, assignment is filled with negative comments. You're teaching an online history class man.. Calm down! Assignments are also very unclear. My BIG issue is that all questions are stolen from online quiz sites! You can look up the answer to every quiz on google!
This teacher is a nightmare. His grading so inconsistent! When asked to explain why I got an 80% on a discussion, he said I'd have to come to him to figure it out since he can't be bothered to click a few links. I'm in an online student; I can't get to the campus easily. His expectations are unclear and he doesn't follow his own rubric. Stay away!
Wouldn't take this class with this professor again. I would get good grades on quizestest but never was able to get full credit on my work. Since it was an online class I could my classmate had similar work so I'm not sure why I never could get my full credit.
He is definitely a tough professor, however I feel this is a great attribute. You will definitely be getting a quality education from him. He cares about you succeeding, but you truly have to put in A LOT of effort. You won't pass if you don't try. He has a passion for proper education, which makes him rather inspiring,
Probably would never take Prof. Lee again. His tests are poorly written with grammatical errors and the answers get mixed up so you get it wrong when you really were right, and he is VERY resistant to correct HIS mistakes. He words his questions in strange ways and gives numerical value to words such as "quite possibly" (51%) and "chances are" (less than 50%). The assignment that is worth the most points in the class is not really related to history- you have to make a portfoilo, and its more about your design rather than the quality of your analysis. In conclusion- dont take him- he doesnt give a hoot about you
As a person, Lee is cool. As a teacher? Oh man, this guy is tough. Granted, he says it's to "push" his students to work harder, but it gets a little ridiculous. Lots of reading, lots of studying. DEFINITELY not an easy A - not even an easy B, really. If you slack off, you're not going to pass the class. Memorizing is crucial, too. Good luck.
Very unorganized. Would NOT take him again. He is also a biased grader. Very self-absorbed. Plus, he always bolts out of the room at the end of the class session, so you literally have to chase him down if you have to ask him a question. He will always bring up his UCLA education, and he is very close-minded.
He is a really passionate lecturer and is an expert on Asian American history. However, like several others have said, he is strangely negative and sometimes his bad mood is apparent. He grades hard but it's not that bad, that is, if you read and pay attention in class. Love the stuff he taught but why so negative???
Definitely not a walk in the park but not as hard as everyone says it is. This is college now you will have to read and work. I learned a lot more than I thought I would in this class. Don't let the bad reviews discourage you. His class will challenge you and definitely force you to be a better student. If you get to know him he's pretty cool.
I took 3 online classes so far and this class was by far the best. My other professors don't provide feedback at all so you don't know what you did wrong or how to improve. Prof. Lee always replies back quickly to all my questions. All online classes are not the same. Take him and you won't regret it.
Awesome class. Eye opening. He invites special speakers to his classes. Last semester he brought the Asian guy from Maze runner. He was pretty cool. If you wanna learn about Asian Americans this is the class to take
Professor Lee is ducking brilliant.
It is what it is. You have quizzes and other weekly assignments. I liked how there were no group projects so it worked with my busy schedule. I would probably take more classes from him. He seems pretty cool.
Hardly any guidance when it comes to knowing what he expects of you in terms of assignments. Stay on track with the required readings listed in the syllabus or you will fall behind. Group projects are the same way. Lock down a topic with your group early & get the research out of the way. Instructions for the topic proposal are in the syllabus.
Prof. Lee's lectures are depressing, yet fascinating. I appreciated this class and believe that APA history is deserving of more discussion. However, do not take this course unless you are up for the challenge. Your grade is basically entirely dependent on the mid-term, final, and group project. He is a STRICT grader and expects detailed arguments.
You're only allowed 2 absences so go to class. There are two textbooks - one regular and one reader that was put together by the professor. (Reader is basically copies of chapters from various books but they aren't copied well so some are cut off or unclear for reading) Very tough grader, so make sure you read all the readings and pay attention.
I enjoyed the class a lot. Professor Lee was super informative and I loved his lectures!
Stay on top of strict deadlines as no late assignments are accepted. Grading gets tougher as the course goes on. That being said, use as many references as you can in your document interpretations and other assignments. Do extra credit just to be safe. Tests and quizzes are mc. If you really want to learn some American history, take his class. It is not easy because you have to study very hard. Professor Lee wants you to learn and also think about history. Some students considered him a tough grader, but he does up to 10% extra credits, and also grade curve. He encourages students to open mind. He is good but not easy.
You have to go through the lecture notes & give examples on your assignment or you will get little credit. His lecture notes are long. This is an online class. I wouldn't recommend taking if you wanna finish everything in one day because he assigns a lot of papers about 2 pages each week. BEWARE. Gives extra credit tho
He's so rude. I asked him for tips on studying for the midterm and he told me "know all the information." Might I add its a 500 page book we had to remember. He does not except late work no matter what. I was two mins late on an assignment and I got a 0/40. I also forgot to turn my paper into turnitin, and he gave me a 0/40. (wasn't even due yet)
people talk about him as someone unfair and unpleasant but in actuality, hes a very fair person. I appreciate Professor Lee a lot because of the fact he is very real towards his students and expects them to understand their responsibility. I feel that those students who speak ill of Professor Lee are irresponsible and expecting special treatment.
His attitude is negative. Biased grading. Lectures are loaded with TONS of information and doesn't give the time to write much as he skips slides fast. Gives good lectures but DOESNT TALK about his almost $90 mandatory book, which is a collection of photocopies from other textbooks and the reader, lame. Doesn't care about his students. Dont take it
This class is difficult not because of the material but because of the way the professor presents it. When he lectures, he moves too quickly and provides too much text on each slide. It was helpful to have my phone handy to take pictures of each slide to actaually be able to jot some notes down. A plus: essay questions provided a week in advance.
Professor Lee is a good teacher that gives lots of reading materials, it makes students who really want to learn a chance to further their knowledge bank. He gives great feedbacks on essays which will reflect your weaknesses, and his class is really fun. Great teacher.
To pass you have to read the book, but read for comprehension! Make sure you're really absorbing what you're reading. Also, you have to already have decent skill as a writer to pass the essays. His lectures are great and informative. He respects empathy, a willingness to work hard, and passion. Display those qualities and you'll do great.
Biased grader, unclear criteria. Even if you follow his feedback, you get the same grade. I wouldn't recommend, he will frustrate you...
He does not utilise his time effectively. He works against you every chance he gets, like limiting the midterm ( one of 3 whole grades) to 20 minutes, started the second the class is scheduled to start. What kind of move is that ? I wished he cared more. The class vibe is negative. I didn't like asking questions and he didn't like answering them
According himself, he teaches at UCLA and PCC, so that his standard and expectations are very high. Took his HIS 7B last fall, the midterm and final are super hard. Especially the midterm multiple choices! His lectures are confusing and notes are not clear and difficult to read. Do not take his class if you want to easily pass.
Hands down the most difficult professor I've had. Total of 6 graded assignments for the entire semester, 4 of which were midterm (essay & multiple choice) and final (essay & multiple choice). Lecture is so condensed, impossible to take accurate notes. Textbook rarely used. Unclear guidelines on all assignments. This professor sets you up to fail.
This professor presents the materials in a confused way, too much lecture. Unfair grader-he can dock your grade down because he didnt like your writing style, your way of explaining a certain concept throughout your paper especially on essay exam questions. Professors who don't have a clear and comprehensible idea about how he graded his students.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Not the easiest class but as long as you do the work and follow the instructions you will be fine. I took the 6 week summer session and it was very fast paced and a lot of work. I got an A so I'm happy. You definitely need to read.
Took his class a few years back. I really enjoyed his lectures. He knows his stuff and you can tell he is very passionate. Just do the work and do the extra credit and you will be fine. There is a group project. Just hope you are in a good group. My group members sucked.
Good luck getting quality feedback from this guy. Even when personally messaged directions and feedback was almost always vague and unclear. I have sworn to never ever take another online course after taking this class.
I took History 007A online. This guy is just "copy and paste". Instructions all over the place. One thing, he answers messages in canvas really fast but answers not clear. Even though you finish the assignments with his instructions he always makes critics about your paper, but he doesn't tell you how you can improve your work. Be aware of this guy
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Do not take this class. this professor is a complete jerk. his directions are not clear at all. do not expect to get an A in this class or even a B. he grades super hard and is absolutely awful. PCC should have a word with him, it is outrageous.
I'm not one to complain but, directions aren't clear and neither is his feedback. Extremely nit picky about your work which could be avoided if he gave clear precise instructions of what he is looking for. You have to sift through quite a bit of material to make sure you are not missing anything important which wastes time.
Awesome lectures. Different from any other history class I took. But prepare to read and work hard. He has taught at UCLA and other 4 year Universities.
If I could rate this professor 0 then I would easiest the worst professor at PCC. He does not give clear instructions, does not upload the files/powerpoints to canvas, does not seem to care anymore. Do not take his class half of the student that stayed were lost, and we had to do a group project in which some group didn't even show up. Don't take
get ready for TONS OF HOMEWORK. I signed up for his online sessions and had somewhere between 10-12 assignments the first week. Crazy.
Simply put, the worst professor I have ever come across, and I am a senior in college. These are the facts: 1) He is an over the top insainly tough grader, 2) unjustly high workload for a 100 level history class, 3) received zero positive feedback on my assignments, but received negative feedback often. DO NOT take this course if want to keep a 4.0
Currently taking his summer class. I have taken a few online classes. This one is shorter because it is the summer. It is only 6 weeks. It goes by very fast. I would not recommend taking more than 1 during the summer. Instructions are pretty clear and he is super fast in responding to any questions I have. Faster than anyone I ever had. Not easy.
I am currently taking his online summer course and I do not recommend this professor. I have taken tough professors before at my University, and I am only taking this course online at PCC to finish off GE's. He is a very very tough grader, he has a saying "do the minimum I ask from you and I will grade you like you did minimum work." No fairness.
Stressful class, doesnt explain well, always has an attitude and doesnt let you use any information given in class for projects of writing exams like fr fr. you basically end up relying on classmates and u basically teach yourself smh.
a class that you pay for but teach yourself, is not clear within anything and does not prepare you at all for midterms or finals. I regret taking his class and I highly suggest to you to avoid him as a professor. Speed rushes through lectures and powerpoint. is not a good professor.
I'm not sure why there are any negative comments for this professor. He was very straightforward in the beginning on how much work was going to be needed. His lessons were not rushed and they went very well with the reading that was assigned. The assignments were straightforward and touched on what we learned in class. Two thumbs up!
Prof Lee is very passionate about what he teaches, I learned a lot of things in his class that I wouldn't have learned in others. Although his class can be a little confusing at times, as long as you keep up and show up it really isn't that hard. He doesn't assign a lot of homework but you do need to read a lot.
He is indeed a tough grader though passionate at what hes doing. Be ready to be serious and focus on your assignment since he doesnt accept late work. Very clear on his grading criteria. Fast response on students question.
Professor Lee was super helpful whenever I had a question about an assignment and his response time was fast. The weekly discussion posts were not that hard as long as you really read the material and followed the rubric. He also gave the opportunity for extra credit which was a great plus. Great teacher overall, Im so glad I took his class!
Do not take him trust. If you want to hurt your gpa sure go ahead.
Professor Lee offers the most well structured class I've ever had the pleasure in taking. Assignments have clear due dates & thorough instruction & every week is started with a reminder of what is expected & due that week. He grades quickly & progressively. The class heavily relies on student interaction through discussion boards. Take his class!
Waste of my time, shouldve gone with a different professor but this one seemed nice.
This professor is wack! The first assignment due required 250 word count. The next assignment he ups the word count to 500! Yeah like we don't already have homework for other classes too! He gives extra credit but you have to watch like 10 videos and answer questions about them for credit. He has no business giving so much work.
I enjoyed Professor Lees lectures and constant input with the flow of transitioning from in class to remote learning due to the covid-19 lock down. Although we butted heads initially with some communication issues, the class it self was more fulfilling than expected. This wont be a cake course with Professor Lee. For determined students only.
Professor Lee has a solid qualitative study of work and input required. If youre serious about putting in the work I highly recommend. No lagging and remain steady and youll do well. I found professor Lee to have a depth of knowledge that surpasses expectations and really gained a solid appreciation for US history in the academic setting.
Due to COVID-19 our course became online, but the few in-class lectures we had prior to the pandemic were great. He's very passionate about what he teaches and his lectures were informative, but also very funny. He's a tough grader, but if you do the readings you'll do well in the class. Don't be intimidated to reach out to him, he is accommodating
Professor Lee is the genuinely the best professor Ive had and teaches US history from another perspective. Makes the material interesting and very straight forward!
Professor Daehwan Lee is a great teacher! Very passionate about the lectures pertaining the history of Asian Americans. I highly suggest to take his course even if you are not Asian because he provides another perspective of American history you may have not been aware of. Don't procrastinate on the readings and keep a timeline from the start. 8)
The book was given online, if you don't read the chapters you won't do good on the essays, gives many extra credit opportunities, final was a group project and got to choose the topic with permission (spring semester, was in midst of covid-19 so switched to online class)
At first, it seemed like a lot of work, but if you manage your time well, don't procrastinate, and listen to the comments he makes on your work, you'll be fine. Also gives many opportunities for extra credit. Some work is writing heavy but becomes easier over time.
It's honestly a lot of work but once you figure out how to manage your time it goes by quite quickly and smoothly.
Great class, strict with deadlines but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty straight forward! I would recommend this professor if you are up for a challenge.
I took it in summer 2020. It wasn't that difficult. There's a lot of work you have to do but it's worth it. Professor Lee makes it clear what you need to improve on. He posts many announcements that are paramount. Interacting with other students and group members is important. Make sure to never miss an assignment. Ask questions when you're unsure.
I took a course with Professor Lee during the 6-week summer session. Even though each week had its load of assignments, every one of them served its purpose to allow me to build on my critical thinking and writing skills. The way Professor Lee organized the content online was extremely helpful. I would 100x recommend taking a class with him.
Professor Lee really wants to see improvement. He leaves comments about what you can do to score better. He also emphasizes time management, so the deadlines are strict. Missing an assignment will cost you, but you can make it up with extra credit (video questions). He grades assignments in a timely manner, so he practices what he preaches!
I had an issue with my group project and asked if I could join another, I was doing all the work. NO HELP! All he said was "every group has one person who does all the work." the first test was 25 min? (he timed it) I emailed him since I was running late due to an appt and when I got there he didn't even give me any time, I had 10 mins!
I had a really hard time catching up with the discussions and readings because he assigns large proportions of passages to read, both from the book and course reader. However, he was really supportive and his feedback to posts and essays are helpful to me. Professor Lee is indeed tough, but great if you really want to learn from this class.
If you're searching for an easy class, Professor Lee is not for you. But if you're willing to challenge yourself and get the best out of your college education, then Professor Lee can help. If you ask questions and listen to his feedback, you will see yourself improve. Your grade will reflect the amount of effort you put into the class. Good luck.
If you want to look for an easy "A "class, this class is not for you. Since I took this class for 8 weeks so there're tons of assignments, readings, and some extra credit video questions. However, if you take this class, you will gain knowledge, have a deeper understanding of history. Also, improve your critical thinking, writing, reading skills.
Professor Lee is definitely not easy, but if you really want to learn more about history, hes a really good teacher in accordance with that. On the note of homework, it can involve a lot of reading (along with a Course Reader if thats reauired unfortunately), but he does offer a little extra credit so make sure to do that!
I welcome hard work and enjoy learning, and I read and learned a lot with professor Lee. I'll genuinely miss intensity of his class. What really turned me off a little is so much writing. I didn't expect so much on-paper analysis in a history class. If writing is not your forte, get a tutor or avoid.
This may be because of COVID but Dr. Lee didn't really do anything but grade our stuff and pick it apart. Never really satisfied and didn't teach. If you have to take this class online then be prepared for some hard work.
Professor Daewhan Lee's class is pretty much your usual history class but, he loves to give back a response to each assignment you turn in. The class is asynchronous so you work at your own pace. The class does not have many tests only one exam on a book called, Celia, a slave. Overall just follow instructions and get ready for peer reponses.
Prof Lee's class is tough but totally worth it. The assignments will rly help u think from the perspective of the time period- this class is an eye-opener and super honest. It was an 8 week course, so it was fast paced and HW heavy. There are no quizzes, just a final. An A is very possible, not easy. Prep for HW early and ask him Qs! EC available!
If you actually pay attention and read what your supposed to do, you will have an easy time. The professor does give a decent amount of work but it is doable and reasonable. Just pay attention to deadlines because he doesn't accept late work. His class is very easy if you put in the time and effort and he's a really nice professor.
Prof. Lee has a reputation as a hard grader, but the truth is he only wants you to strive perfection and put in effort! If you take the advice he gives you and apply it towards future assignments, you will do great. He will also have you read Lies my Teacher Told Me which is very interesting. Class would have been more engaging with a lecture.
I was able to learn more in his class than in previous history courses I have taken. Although there was no recorded lecture, most of the learning came from reading the material provided which gave students an opportunity to analyze what they have read through discussions among others in class.
History 7A was very challenging from all the work, but it definitely improves your critical thinking skills and writing skills.
History 007B was a very straightforward class. There is quite a bit of reading per week but the homework load is low. If you do the reading and put in effort, its an easy A. If you dont, dont expect to get a good grade (fair right?). Professor Lee grades much more leniently than I expected and I would definitely take his class again.
professor Lee is great! He gives a lot of work but you get the hang of it over time. 2 discussions every week. 2 essays throughout the semester and 1 final group project. Get ready to read a ton. He is a tough grader. If you are a student athlete this class might be too difficult to pass.
Professor Lee was terrible. There were no lectures, we had a lot of reading and writing assignments, which were fine, but there was no instruction from him. I felt like I taught myself the class. He was also very short and rude towards me whenever I asked him a question. The way he set up canvas was also very confusing and unorganized. Don't take!!
Lots of reading and many papers to write. The class itself is not that hard but what makes it difficult is how unclear his instructions are. Too wordy and does not get to the point. Makes you submit papers through turnitin and when you ask for clarifications as to why he is grading the way he does, he has no rubric or answer. Very annoying.
I took him for history. He is very motivational, timiley, and he wants the best for his students. I would say if you want to pas complete all the assignments and class discussions. Turning in everything correctly and on time is very important to passing hi class.
He is a really good professor, very caring, and responds to emails on canvas fast. Just be sure to turn in everything ON TIME completed. When he asks you to write a prompt try to make it more than one page long. "READ ALL ASSIGNMENTS CAREFULLY."
Fun and easy class, not demanding if you put in any effort at all. The syllabus lays out everything you need to do for the semester, so there are no assignments that he throws at you out of the blue. Essays are your tests, combined worth about 40 percent of your grade, but the prompts and essay are available for an entire week so you should be fine
This class is pretty straightforward. There's definitely a lot of readings and weekly discussions but if you put great content and lots of effort he will give you a good grade. He can be strict and set high standards but over time you will realize he only wants you to become better and I truly appreciate that about him. Take him you'll learn a lot!
Great class, you are going to put in some work, but compare to my other online classes I actually learned something. Professor Lee was a great instructor and has great compassion for his students.
Professor Lee is a great teacher. He actually gives you feedback regarding your work on how to improve. There is a lot of work to put into this class specifically reading and writing. However, it is an easy A as long as you put in the effort. Take this class if you want to improve your academic skills.
The beginning of the semester for this course was rough for me, I was very been introduced to bunch assignments that I never heard over. I started the semester with a low grades. After talking to Professor Lee, and getting help from the support center, I was able to catch up an eventually get an A. What you learn from the class is very useful!!
Honestly, he's a really tough teacher but you do learn about the subject because you use the textbook and notes a lot. I'm not a straight-A student and I managed to finish with an A. You really just have to try and ask for help, he's a nice guy.
I would not recommend this Professor, he doesn't explain things well. He is a tough grader with poor communication skills. Acts like he people to have all the time in the world for his class.
Worst history professor I've ever taken. You do the work with maximum effort and he'll still give you 3-4/5pts. On essays he says there is no page minimum but expects 8 pages in order for you to receive a decent grade. Would NOT recommend this professor!
Great teacher, if you do the work you'll get a good grade. He's very responsive and will answer whatever questions you have in order to give you the reassurance you need to pass the class. You do have to read into the textbook for assignments, but thats part of the key to this class, which is studying.
My experience with Professor Lee's History 007 class was pretty positive, he was very friendly and although the workload he provided may seem a bit overwhelming (specifically the discussion posts), if you simply just read the textbook and resources he's provided throughout the course you'll find that it really isn't that difficult or too much work.
I enjoyed Prof. Lees history class because it was clear and straight forward. Assignments for the weekly modules are all based on the readings so it is crucial to understand what youre reading. Also, he offers 3 extra credit opportunities which are fairly easy and can really benefit you. If you put in the effort youll end up with an A :).
Lots of reading from the textbook and other given class texts. Only two discussion posts per week, but effort and direction following required to not lose points. The essays and project are a lot more work but are doable in 1-2 days minimum for each. Best tip for max points: FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS IN ASSIGNMENT AND DISCUSSION RUBRICS.
Professor Lee's class is a heavy writing and reading class, but the assignments are easy as long as you put in the time and effort. His modules are well organized, and his expectations are laid out clearly in the prompts or rubric; make sure you read them! If you do not understand, reach out, he responds quickly and is willing to help you improve!
I love how this professor manage the assignment for the student to understand American history. He gives a lot of clue on how to do the assignment. Moreover, he is responsive when the student ask, he is available to answer. However, i can consider this class as the hard one because we need to understand and do a bunch of reading but you will pass
Professor Lee's class is fairly easy if you are willing to put in the work. The week by week homework and assignments are consistent so staying on top of your work is fairly easy. He gives great feedback on your work and overall really does want to help you succeed. I recommend taking his class!
The class is well organized, and everything about grading criteria is within the homework page; if you did your reading and writing, it is easy to get a B, work a bit harder. A is very doable.
This is a great professor, he gives 5% extra credit and unlimited attempt quizzes. You will earn an easy A as long as you do all the assignment and 2 essays.
This professor makes learning history more like an upper division writing class. If you like writing 2-3 short essays a week then take him. He is a nice person but his class structure is just too hard for a 3 units class.
Professor Lee teaches a challenging class. He expects a certain amount of work to be completed on time, with no tolerance of late work unless there's an emergency. Work is heavily based off reading articles, textbooks, and the work of your peers, so be prepared to read a lot. Overall this class is tough, but fair and enjoyable if you work hard!
I had professor Lee during my spring semester online. He was very clear about the assignments and the process of the class. The class was a simple and direct as long as you take the time to do the assignments then you will receive a good grade. Professor Lee also will respond quickly and help you answer any questions needed.
There is a LOT of homework. I personally didn't get used to it, but most do. The essays affect your grade a lot, but there is a 5% extra credit that saved my grade. He also rounded my grade up because he knew I was trying my best. As long as you read the text, watch the videos, and learn your history, he'll see your effort and will be generous.
Highly recommend not taking. No disrespect to him at all but the class is just way to much for a 3 credit class. The standards are expected to be like a top notch school. Grading can be extremely nit picky and feedback is not constructive. Assignments are given extremely long instructions that can be overwhelming. Rubrics don't even explain.
This guy is very unclear with instructions. Assignment instructions are long and doesnt paraphrase or shorten it to make it easier for students. Expects us to do it right the first time but cant complete with the type of instructions provided.
Very unclear with what he wants for assignments, gives unclear feedback. Had to ask him twice to be specific. Seriously does not give clear instructions and then punishes you for doing what he initially describes he wanted but seems to secretly have other things he wants but doesnt tell you. ALSO does not respect school policy for holiday breaks.
This guy is simple: gives you instructions, you follow them 100%. Feedback: "You're not reading the instructions."
Honestly, he's a great professor! As long you do the assignments, you should be able to get an A. You can take the quizzes until get an A. So, unlimited chances. You also have a group project, which is actually pretty fun. Def recommend if you want an A. Also, he gets back to you very quick and also very nice.
Pretty straightforward, a lot of reading, but great information. DO NOT slack on your essay thinking it is an easy class because it is your first semester as a freshmen. Just do well on BOTH your essay exams with at least 6 pages and you will pass with an A. Pretty strict teacher, but his style really fits what we read.
Professor Lee is awesome, clear course assignments and grading description. If you put in the work youll enjoy his class.
Let's say this professor is strict but should be respected because the replies in the discussion are very dense and is trying to bring education where it should be. His assignments are well organized, 2 discussions, 1 quiz, and a lot of reading for the class every week. Gives the final like 2-3 months beforehand of a group slide project no present.
Upon starting this course, I really liked it. Although he was strict (no late submissions, must follow rubric to a T) I quickly realized that Professor Lee is unclear in what he wants and does not give the proper feedback when you get a lower grade. He does not provide any constructive criticism. His feedback is very general and is always a few wo
Professor Lee can be meticulous about grading. Make sure to thoroughly read through all of the instructions and his emails. Personally, I didn't really enjoy his class, but that's okay. Even though the assignment can be straightforward, it's also very tedious. FYI, this is an 8 week course so it could be different from the 16 week experience.
Lengthy weekly discussions with word counts for post and replies. Easy quizzes. He's a hands-off teach yourself professor. Must do essays and a group project, but his instructions are extremely vague and you're mostly on your own. Feedback is far from insightful. He will not tell you what he wants, but will insist on adding more mystery details.
Class is very easy if you follow his guidelines. At most 2 short essays that are like half a page about the chapter, you needed to read in the week. Quizzes unlimited amount of tries. Tells you what he needs clearly. 8 week class and was doable and easy. BEST TEACHER!!! All needed to use in class is provided by him in form of modules.
This Professor is not here to mess around. If you put half effort you will get a C. He makes you work for that A; I myself enjoy the challenge! KEY is to READ all instructions and modules. I can truly say that Prof. Lee's History Class has been one of the best Online classes I have taken thus far. Don't forget your critical thinking hat!
This teacher is the best but you need to put in the work. Make sure to write at least 3 paragraphs for each discussion and cite readings, powerpoint and textbook. Cite in responses. Due dates are really reasonable and even extends if there is a holiday. He is really nice and as long as you do what he asks for you will get an A.
As I took the class, Professor Lee was very unclear about what he wanted. I did a document interpretation, nowhere in his instructions did it say I had to include 3 different sources, got an F and he said, "Read the instructions" Next assignment I cited 3 other sources, and still said "Read the Instruction correctly". Please do not take this class!
I took Lee's class for History 07A for the requirements, it's a lot of reading and a lot of work. But as long you do the work, you'll be fine. Always read the instruction!
There is a lot of reading that is required, but as long as you do the reading you'll be fine! Make sure to read everything! He sends weekly announcements clarifying everything that is expected, and also includes it in the modules. Reading the announcements helped me catch little details that I missed from the modules. Late work is not accepted!
Vague on what He wants. The final project is worth 20% but there's no rubric for it. There isn't even a page on what he expect just a few paragraph's in the syllabus. He will tell you that he wants critical original thoughts on the discussions but will count points off if you don't drone the CLO's. Prose is important in the essays. bad intro = C
Extremely intelligent and passionate professor who cares deeply about the subject and his student's success. Clear and organized in terms of what he's demanding academically, you'll also experience how after the course interacting with people becomes different daily. I was left in awe when my preconceived history-book notions got challenged.
Professor Lee expects his guidelines to be followed but is very accessible via email to clear up any confusion. Expect to be writing a lot for discussions. Two essays + a final project paper and presentation. The essays are hefty parts of the final grade so be sure to spend an ample amount of time on them. Offers 5 percent worth of extra credit.
In my honest opinion, he can be a hard grader, especially on the essay exams. I would say it's crucial to pay attention to his essay exam instructions. Otherwise, you won't get a good grade on it. Besides that, his instructions are straightforward. His lecture is also quite fascinating as well. Plus, he does offer a 5% extra credit as well.
You read a chapter from the textbook + a chapter from another book each week. After, you write a discussion post. If you make a routine, these assignments are simple. He has clear expectations so it's not hard to get full points. He always responded to my questions within a day. Overall I am happy with my experience in this class.
Great professor, have lots of study materials on canvas. You have unlimited opportunities to take the exam. Detailed reading can better help you get good grades.
Professor Lee can be difficult for some students because he is a tough grader on essay and history paper. However, if you keep up with your work to submit the assignment by deadline, follow his instructions for writing a paper, you will be good. He always give thoughtful feedback and advice on writing paper, remember to read them and follow it!
He does not accept late work. Hardest GE class I've taken so far. Make sure you read the instructions very carefully. Instructions for his assignments can be confusing.
He cares, actually replies, good teacher. LOTS of work, but doable, hard grader , READ INSTRUCTIONS CLEARY, he is very specific about how to do assignments. Quizzes are easy can be taken multiple times. But essays are harshly criticize so you MUST actually learn about it to be able to respond to them. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS ,won't excuse so be on time
Not a history class where you memorize names and dates. Pretty high expectations. Totally focused on critical thinking and written analysis. If your writing skills aren't strong you'll probably have a tougher time. If you put in the effort and challenge yourself you'll improve your writing and critical thinking skills by leaps and bounds.
Professor Lee is amazing! If you want to grow academically and learn how to properly interpret documents take his class. Be prepared to work and see your mind grow!
So for the discussion if you cite you will get full credit but the two essays will tank your grade if you don't put what his idea and opinions are. The instructions for essay is quite vague and I feel that this is the only thing that needs to be changed in the class. The final project is not that hard. The essay grading is not fair.
I took a summer class with professor Lee, who made the course enjoyable with the outside readings and Youtube videos. The class is about working hard for your desired grade. The interpretations seem complicated, but by following the instructions and asking questions, you can quickly get an A.
Professor lee was awesome . His class was organized and fun I now like history because his class was fun . To interpret the readings may be difficult but as students we need to put the best effort and I enjoyed the textbooks . Thank you professor
Seriously, don't take this class! Take it from a straight A/4.0 student that has taken many hard courses and done well, this class is a joke. For a 3 unit course that people take to fulfill a general requirement, the amount of work and expectation this professor has is comical. Directions are long and overwhelming. Don't waste your time/energy!!
This prof has a no late policy, but he prevents those who didnt do the initial post from responding to others.. While I understand the policy, it just seems a rude that he deletes everything, even responses due by sunday, BEFORE sunday. He could be a nice prof, I just have my doubts now and wanted to let others know before taking this class..
He's nice, but he's a tough grader. There is a lot of work to be done in this class, and I believe he is unaware that most of us are also taking other classes. too much too much
He's a good teacher but he grades so hard I took him over the summer expecting this class to be easy but this dude has over 100 students and manages to grade so hard. All in all, I would not take this class it's actually very time-consuming and annoying.
The only reason why you will see low ratings from students is that he is a tough grade. Which he is undoubtedly. But, I feel like you will actually learn from the class. The only drawback is that he does not give good feedback. Other than that, if you want to learn, this class is for you!
I took this summer class with Professor Lee, for about 6 weeks. If you're able to put in the time, you'll do just fine. You must pay attention to read all directions carefully because he's very specific in what he wants from you. Many students complain about the grade they get, though if you're able to take the time to improve, you can do it.
Not a very tough grader in my opinion, though he will knock off a few points if you didn't format your writing correctly and things like that. It's important to read canvas announcements and the weekly messages he sends for assignment details. He responds quickly to questions you ask through canvas messaging.
If you only need this class for a history credit DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you are a history major sure. No feedback on why he grades so hard. Even if you study super hard and turn in great work you still dont know if you will receive a good grade.
Great professor! The course I took was a full course condensed into eight weeks, so the workload was pretty heavy; that being said, the professor was incredibly quick to respond to questions and always gave great feedback. As long as you do the work on time you should be okay.
The class was taxing but very fulfilling! It was fast-paced mainly because the course was shorter than most. The assignment instructions were mostly clear, though you should check emails and announcements as well as the actual assignment itself. Should be easy to get the hang of things a week or so in. Critical thinking and time management are key!
Professor Lee is honestly one of the worst teachers I've had. His lectures are all over the place plus he never answers your questions. Instead, he asks the class's opinions making you feel dumb for asking in the first place. Throughout the semester he only gives 3/4 of exams but no homework. He also grades on attendance out of 100.
I consider myself to be great at history. I got a decent score on my APUSH exam in HS, and I was previously a history major. Note: PREVIOUSLY. I changed my major because of this class. The test prompts make no sense, and you're graded harsher than women were judged at the Salem Witch Trials. Extra credit won't matter by the way!
Extremely strict, unforgiving abt small human & even tech errors w/ submissions. Talks down to students, cuts us off if we try to input during lecture. Went from class of 40 to 15 two months in. DGAF if you pass or not. Treats his class like a full time job, no understanding of credit hrs. Expects the MOST while doing the least. You deserve better.
-Not Recommended! -Stressful -Tight Grade Scale(little points for lots of work) -Tough Grader -Inconsiderate(won't remember your name) -No late work(even if its technical issues or a minute late) -Nit Picky(if we didn't answer it like he would it was wrong) -Short worded email responses -Rushed lectures(lots of information) -Class of 30+ to 10
First off, the class is an amazing class to take. Professor Lee does a great job keeping the class engaged and he truly loves the class material. I personally enjoyed this class but it was also one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Professor Lee elevates you to a higher standard which I love and I believe I learned a lot about US History.
The class was structured fantastically, and topics flowed into each other. Tough grader in a good way! My only qualm was that grading was never clear to me, and would seem to change from assignment to assignment. Also, instructions for our final project was never clear, and it is shown through the vastly different portfolios everyone had submitted.
Professor Lee is a great professor! Though he does assign a lot of readings each week, the material is really interesting. The overall workload is not too bad for an asynchronous class: most often two initial discussion posts and four replies each week. But watch out, he's a stickler for deadlines, so I suggest always being ahead with the readings!
I took Professor Lee's 8 week course so the work load was heavy. However, everything was well structured and his assignments provided detailed instructions so you knew exactly what to expect on a week-to-week basis. Prof. Lee always provided feedback and was good about making weekly announcements that helped with upcoming assignments
All reading is done on your own time and it's a lot of reading (more than my advanced literature classes!!). Lectures are not well organized (writes stuff on the whiteboard as he talks unable to tell the order). Feedback and enthusiasm are not present whatsoever making it even harder to engage and connect with the material. Tests are another mess.
I took Professor Lee's 16-week Spring Async US History Class. Instructions for assignments were really clear, so it was really easy and manageable. It was composed of weekly chapter readings, discussion posts, quizzes (unlimited retakes), two papers, and a final project. Set reminders for yourself, develop a schedule and you'll breeze through it.
There aren't many assignments for this course, it was just two essay exams, one midterm, a research paper, and a short presentation. But you need to read a lot for the exams, if you can read a lot and understand the textbook, you will do pretty well because the professor will not cover up every chapter, you will have to read it yourself !!
Easy class with not much work. Two discussions with two replies to classmates weekly. Two essays total but you get a week to finish. The essays aren't assigned at the same time. The final consists of an immigration history project on PowerPoint and a 5-page essay. Book by Ronald Takaki required, History071 Course Reader not required.
If you are planning on taking him for the summer, I wouldn't recommend it. I think that in a longer semester the class would be better. It definitely is not an easy A that you can breeze through for the summer because he gives so much work that I personally find pointless.
I took Professor Lee's 16-week asynchronous course. Overall the class is manageable and straightforward. Each week, there are two discussion boards based on readings, which are fairly simple. His quizzes are short, easy, and have unlimited retakes. There are two essays and a final project that are easy as long as you follow instructions.
I took the 6-week class over the summer. On average, the class covered about 3 chapters per week, and there were weekly essays and quizzes. You had unlimited attempts for the quizzes, and there was no time limit. The professor provided feedback for each weekly essay, so you could also go back to read his comments and improve on the next one.
Gives a ridiculous amount of homework which I find to be so excessive for this class. I am taking the 6-week version of this course so I do understand how I am to manage a summer class. He makes it so that you really have to dive deep into the reading if you want a good grade on your assignments. He nitpicks the smallest details in your work.
Avoid taking during summer. Insane amounts of reading, otherwise during regular semesters it's fine.
Very strict about his syllabus rules. A lot of reading and writing(1500 words a week). Be ready to live and breathe this course because he will be strict on everything. Pointless criticism and a lot more reading than I have done than any of my English Literature classes. If History is your thing then by all means but don't bother if its for credits
Be prepared for massive reading, follow overviews under modules, you'll be fine. Prof. Lee responded to my email quickly so that my questions and confusion were resolved well. This is one of the classes I learned the most although it is a 6-week summer course. I recommend you take it in the Fall or Spring because you will read and write a lot.
Professor Lee is a very caring professor. Although his class was challenging AT FIRST, after each assignment, he comments on how to improve your grade for the next assignment. He's passionate for the subject, and is very caring for his students. If you put in the effort and dedication, you will be rewarded!
Professor Lee was my US History teacher during Summer at PCC, something I really appreciate about him is that he was easy to reach through email, he will answer my questions when needed in a fast manner. Professor Lee made his weekly lessons interactive with different resources like videos, books and of course participation from his students.
The course requires a lot of reading and discussion posts. However, Professor Lee gives clear instructions and provides all the required texts. He also is very good at responding to messages and gives great feedback. The class may seem confusing at first, especially if taken online, but as you keep going it should be much easier to follow along.
I took the 6 week Summer 007A class with Professor Lee. There are lots of discussion posts and essays to be written in this class, but as long as you do your readings and follow directions you should be able to Ace this class. He provides weekly emails with what's expected of you and lists the due dates for your assignments which is helpful.
Don't ever take online course from this instructor. He gives you everything in the textbooks to read, gives extra work for you to dive in, guidance is not clear and he grades like never read my whole essay. There is no teaching, just reading textbooks and figuring it out yourselves. Why would I pay for the class and do it all myself?
Lee forgets this is a GE class, assigning hundreds of pages per week. He gives a week to write the essays then grades based on length. He prefers a low-quality long essay over a concise well-written one. He gives very vague instructions, won't clarify, and then marks you down severely for not knowing what he wanted. Take another class if you can.
Great class and professor if you want to actually learn about American history. However, due dates are very strict hence my lower grade.
It was a refresher for me to touch basis on U.S. history. There were a lot of details that I've overlooked before and it was interesting to find. If I have to take another history class, I would look forward to taking a class under Professor Lee once more.
I have learned so much taking this history class. We got the chance to interpret documents in history.
This was my first online class, and I was able to pass with an A which I am extremely proud of. He is great at giving you constructive feedback so you can improve on all your assignments. I think his grading was honest and as long as you read all required material and make the effort to respond to classmates you could easily pass this class.
If you plan to take History 007B with this professor, don't. Out of experience let me tell you why. First, professor Lee forgets this is a GE requirement class and it's not meant to be as difficult as a science class. Tell me why his class was harder than a SCIENCE class. Anyways save yourself some time and look elsewhere for a HISTORY class.
Professor Lee is one of the best professors you will ever have. Yes, his class is harder than the average class, but at the end of the semester you feel accomplished, and his way of teaching m
Professor Lee is one of the best professors you will ever have. Yes, his class is harder than the average class, but at the end of the semester you feel a sense of accomplishment. His way of teaching helps mold you into a better student. I would definitely take him again if I had to. He truly cares about his students and their future!
Easily the most engaging history class I've had. If you're doing something wrong on an assignment or essay he will point it out and guide you in the right direction. Don't be afraid to email him any questions as there's no makeup past the deadline.
Great class and professor. You can actually learn about Asian American history. His class may seem confusing and intimidating at first because of the large amount of reading and writing. But, Professor Lee clearly explains why the point was deducted. To get a good grade in essays, include as much detail as possible in your essay.
I actually really enjoyed the way Professor Lee covered the material, I was never bored during his lectures. If you do the readings, you will pass. He just does not care about his students at all. He's extremely unwelcoming, blunt and short. He hates his job and is not forgiving or understanding about any of your excuses so keep the BS at home.
He expects a level of dedication and workload that might overwhelm non-history major students. Unless you're deeply passionate about history or pursuing it as your major, I strongly advise against taking his class. He does too much and expects for you to go above and beyond in order to get full points.
Very difficult class. If you dont have discipline dont take him. Our grades depended on two exams, midterm and two part project. If you do bad on the exams you're screwed. I ended w/ an 85 cuz I got a 19/20 on the first essay exam, the average was 9.7. Very lecture heavy and he goes super fast. TIP, I recorded his lectures and took notes at home.
Good luck if you intend to take this class with anything else. Way too high of a workload for one class, as if your students don't have lives or other classes to attend to.
harder than a hard science class. this is literally pcc ge requirement and its the hardest class i've ever took and I am a STEM major....
He acts like we don't have lives outside of his class. I have work, I have other classes I literally have to spend almost 2 hours on doing ONE assignment discussion post. His essay criteria is scary and honestly very stupid. I dont get where the good reviews are coming in from.
He doesn't care about you. No late work whatsoever, unless you die or something. Work is intense, and is graded very harshly.
I don't reccomend taking this class if you have other responsibilities in your life. This professor did not bother to inform students that the bookmart where his course reader is located was shut down, wasted so much time looking for it. do not take if you need to work or have family obligations!
crazy amount of work. I don't know how people can even survive in his class.
Took this class during winter - a TON of work. Don't recommend if you're taking another heavy class, or if you work full time. He accepts no late work at all and each week had 50 - 150 pages of reading, videos to watch (around 1 - 4 hours worth), plus 2 - 4 discussions. There were two essays as well Vague feedback. Interesting material though!
he gives essays, doesn't really state how long he wants it. When he actually grades completely based on length. He doesn't really care about other aspects or a good, short, written essay.
I took this class during the Winter session. Get ready to do lots of reading and writing. Do not be late with the assignments, it is a fast-paced class and honestly, you do not have time to make up for lost material. I would advise students to ask the professor right away for clarification when needed, do not wait last minute!
At first, I thought this class would be difficult because I took it in the winter, but I was mistaken. Prof. Lee is a great teacher; if you actually take the time to complete your assignments and read the documents he assigns, you are more likely to get good grades, but he is very strict with grades
Take this course online, during the winter term. Be prepared to do a lot of reading about class material, a book, at least one discussion per week, short quizzes, and book chapter's short reflections. He makes it clear from the beginning of class what he expects, so make sure you read the instructions and weekly announcements carefully.
Professor Lee is very kind and motivating when it comes to students' success. He gives understanding feedback on assignments and makes sure our work is complete and meets the criteria. This class made me learn tremendously about the history of APA communities and the huge impact in the U.S.
he used to have 91 "one star" reviews, now for some reason its all deleted.... and a bunch of very weirdly written reviews appeared....hmmmm.... In all honestly, he really gives off the "i really dont care" attitude, throws hundred pages of reading and his discussion posts requires you to write multiple paragraphs which takes around 2 hrs.
Do yourself a favor and just find another person to teach. This person parading as a teacher. Grades his hist essays like an English class
Doesn't seem to care about quality of the work you provide only the length. The sources he provides don't line up with the essay you have to write and he wants you to incorporate everything. Don't take this class if you want to be able to focus on other classes too. He doesn't seem to care about teaching as a whole.
This class isn't hard just too much work. Midterm essay was difficult as he never gives constructive feedback and the study guide wasn't even for our class. You'll be reading alot and doing two 250word min. a week plus other things for midterm/finals. Avoid this "teacher". His laziness means we basically teach ourselves.
The amount of bs Daehwan had to offer in his course was not worth the work. I'm currently enrolled in 3 other classes and for some reason this history class was taking most of my time. There are real professors out there willing to teach, just not this person. Dear future students, do yourselves a favor and listen to these other ratings.
unclear instructions for essays, graded based on length. copy and pastes assignments because they're mostly just busywork. LOTS of reading
This course has a lot of reading each week and if you suddenly miss one week of assignments, because of life, you're suddenly down a letter grade. Add on the fact that essays and final project affect grades also... its very easy to go from being an A student to a C. You can go the whole semester doing well. Make 1 mistake and its a C.
Like the other bad reviews suggest, he does not care about his students. I reach out with questions and I'm hit with answers telling me that the answer exists. Additionally he docks points for the most miniscule things and sometimes doesn't even say exactly why. Don't take, this class will eat up all of your time. Just the worst.
Prof. Lee was very quick to respond and help answer students' questions. Is a great professor!
The professor is very unreliable and gave a ton of work in the first week. If you take his class, expect 250 word initial reply and 100 word peer reply and the due dates are misleading.
If you plan on not having any free time this semester, take this professor. If you plan on being graded by vague rubrics, and teaching yourself the whole way through the class, also take this professor. If you plan on getting rude, unhelpful, one-sentence responses to your emails, then again, take this professor...
So much reading, so many discussions, and him being a hard grader on essays creates a seemingly impossible course overall. Good content but the class is way too stressful. He gives short feedback and doesn't answer reasonable questions. Easy to drop down a grade letter by the first essay.
Professor Lee, is such a great, wonder and fair teacher. I loved his course because of his fairness and quikness in grading.
A lot of writing and reading need in this class and requirements to write minimum amount of words. Very possible to get an A in within the class by just following directions and finishing on time. The work is a lot but isn't hard at all, need only to write and tests and quiz are very easy to get a full points. His grading is also fairly lenient.
Lack of clarity. If you're an over-thinker, good cause you will be marked down for rules never embedded into his instructions. Grading is inconsistent. Extra cred is 2+ papers/option. With reg hw, you are expected to also prepare time for lots of interviews for project essay & PPT. Drop everything you are doing in life, this class will fill that up
I would not recommend this professor at all. He gives you minimal help when you ask questions about any assignments and expects you to figure it out yourself. It feels like he is a lazy professor who just gives out readings and homework. The class itself is intriguing but I would have chosen a different professor if I could.
If you know what a 168-hour-assignment is, the class median was a 5/7. Terribly harsh grader, very vague, and horribly organized. I do appreciate him for giving me a preview to his grading before drop deadline. This class isn't what you're looking for, IGETC finishers.
He should just put assignments due dates on actual due dates. If there is a need to do a reply to other students he should just leave it open until the end date of the discussions. He makes things confusing. Did not need to take this class, just wanted to put my GPA up a bit.
Not a lot of points to go around, bad rubrics and hard grading. Class started with almost 40, we finished the semester with around 8. I was the only one to get an A. He direct messaged me on canvas at the end of the semester asking for me to leave him a good review on Rate my Professor, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He is a horrible professor. He grades incredibly hard and his rubrics are not very clear. He doesn't even record any lectures and he doesn't tell you exactly what to do. I would be okay with this if resubmissions were allowed, but they are not. He is genuinely one of the worst professors I've ever had, and is not empathetic in circumstances.
The grading criteria are vague and inconsistent, making it difficult to understand how to meet expectations. It feels like the grades are arbitrary rather than based on clear standards. The professor doesn't record lectures, which is a significant disadvantage for students who need to review the material.
Lee was, without a doubt, one of the worst teaching experiences I've encountered. From the start, it was clear that he had no interest in providing constructive feedback, which made it nearly impossible to improve or understand his expectations. I would strongly recommend avoiding his class if you value your sanity and educational growth.
Lee is very inconsistent with his due dates and the whole class was confused about almost every single assignment. He does not accept any late work, no matter what. There are no exceptions in his class and he is very homework heavy, and all the homework is very vauge and confusing. He has nearly 100 1 stars for a reason, he's a horrible proffesor
Huge workload for one class. Requires reading 100s of pages from Takaki's textbook every week alongside 50+ pages of supplementary documents or several hours of documentaries. Discussion posts every week are not hard - just participate on time. Essays are given vague feedback. Length is a major factor in grading - write more than what he tells you.
This professor will make u submit a study guide then give you a poor grade if it dosent meet his standers. He said in quote to a 5 page study guide he gave a bad grade & commented “ incomplete” to “ someone else wrote me 72 pages so.” Lectures are quick and vague. Grading is severely hard. Horrible teacher don't recommend.
As someone who cares and is passionate about the subject at hand, he is incredibly vague on helping you succeed. Look at the reviews, he isn't a good professor, so please avoid him. His grading scales make absolute zero sense.
absolutely do not take this professor if you're in the middle of a natural disaster! our first week of classes were when the eaton fires broke out and i asked for an extra day or two due to lengthy power outages in my town. he refused to give me any extension or sympathy, and blamed me for not bringing up other personal issues in my initial message
I am taking his winter course. One must read more than 100 pages of books each week, and it is likely that you will need to read additional materials and watch movies. His homework schedule is completely unreasonable, and I have never seen a discussion group with no one scoring full marks
I don't know where PCC gets people like this. Isn't helpful at all, the class is really bad and the professor doesn't respect your time or what you have to say. The grading doesn't reflect what you've learn. Expects graduate degree level writing, yet has terrible grammar himself. He'll reply fast but won't help at all. Don't take the sped up class!
Horrible is an understatement. Not sure if he grades with his eyes closed or inputs whatever. Following rubrics still gets you a below-average grade. Everything he says & does contradicts, it's perplexing. When you give less, he wants more; when you give more he wants less. Doesn't show interest in course structure & replies. Avoid the hassle!
dude what is this guy on. The only lesson I've learned in this class is to check RMP next time before i sign up.
Prof ignored DSPS accommodations, inconsistent grading, no empathy during Altadena fires. Heavy workload, minimal guidance, unhelpful communication. The most ruthless teacher I've ever had. The only lesson I've learned in his class is to always check reviews before signing up for a course. Avoid this class I promise you would be better off.
Vague topics, confusing grading scale, and overall poor attitude from a professor who expects GRADUATE LEVEL WRITING (Masters, PhD). Trust me and the other hundred reviews and AVOID THIS CLASS.
Literally the Worst professor known to man, his prompts for his essays are not clear. This leads to writing a paper completely blind. Even when you email him with questions, he answers them vaguely and won't give you a straight answer. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I have even reported him to the Dean and my counselor. HE WILL DESTROY YOUR GPA.
This teacher is very nice and can reply any question on time at several minutes. The assignments is a appropriate work for you to understand the history.
Professor Lee is definitely NOT a free A, however his grading is reflective of the effort put into your work. Furthermore, contrary to other comments I have found that Professor Lee often responded to emails within a few hours. It is definitely a lot of work to take this course during winter or summer, but it is manageable if you allocate your time
very vague on instructions yet very harsh grader. class average for all but one essay was under 60%. encouraged people who were affected by the altadena fires to drop if they could not handle the class load and their personal emergencies. did offer lots of extra credit, but was tedious. responds to messages fast, normally within a few hours at most
super unclear instruction about essays and projects. and not following his own instruction to grade. the median essay grades are around 60%... everyone is suffering hard time to pass the course.
NOT an easy A. You NEED to have a basic knowledge of college level reading & writing. Word count matters. Winter is not 9 hrs/wk more like 24 hrs/wk to get an A. LOTS of reading, had 566 pages 1 week. XC not worth the effort. Textbook sucks, difficult to understand details & additional vids & readings are very repetitive. Did learn but LOTS of work
Took this class over winter, and there was a lot of material over a short amount of time. Class was fairly manageable, as long as you put aside the time to do the readings (~100 pages of textbook per week) and finish the discussions. If you have struggle with time management, this class isn't for you. Teacher responds fast to comments on Canvas.
Tough professor but overall good professor. I took this class for the winter semester which was six weeks. Expect a lot of work, reading, and pay good attention to the assignment instructions. Then you'll be ok.
The amount of 5.0 is RIDICULOUS. I know these were some of my classmates from winter 2025 and the fact that they liked him is crazy. The work load is impossible. My other winter class I got an A no problem. I struggled ridiculously in this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Also was cold hearted during the Altadena fires, barely gave any extensions. 0/10.
Cold hearted. Doesn't care unless you're dying. 0/10. Don't take his class.
Had to see a therapist bc of this class. Almost caused me not to transfer. he doesn't want you to succeed and sets u up to fail. Doesn't grade according to the rubric he gives you. Even if u meet all criteria, he will give u a low grade.
Average for essays was 60% for the whole class during winter. So some of these people are lying saying they got an A. These essays were 20-30% of ur grade. No way they got an A. Listen to the bad reviews. Worst professor. I've been at PCC for 3 years and never experienced such a horrible class.
Tough grader , make sure you proofread everything .
Took the 8 week course. Definitely not an "easy" class. You'll be doing A LOT of reading and writing so be prepared for that. Professor Lee gives good feedback with assignments so you'll have no trouble getting full credit as the semester goes on. There are weekly mini essays about historical documents with other smaller assignments with quizzes.
Lacked any communications, I tried showing up to office hours, and he wasn't there. Therefore, I emailed him for the times and he responded with "it's in the syllabus". He lacks any feedback, and when asked to further his insights, he seemed to get frustrated and irritated. I am a straight A student and this class is my first grade less than an A.
I should've read the reviews before taking this class, I was hoping to learn and improve my knowledge on this topic but currently having a bad experience as a freshman. Professor relies on assigned readings, articles, and YouTube videos. There is little to no actual teaching or engagement. There is no lectures mostly self taught material.
every positive review on this page is daehwan himself gassing himself up -- "just put do the readings, put up with the humiliation, you'll do fine" -- like he thinks he's filtering weak students out. no man, your instruction just blows. learn to use the LMS, you're teaching online classes. don't sign up, maybe admin will finally discipline him
Teacher doesn't care what you write, will grade you unfairly, and miss one part of the project even if it's by 1 point will drop your grade 2 letters down.
He is egotistical and doesn't do anything but hate and give the worst possible grade, straight up, no sympathy. Like ima keep it so real, I got some ptsd from this class doing the work and readings every week, I felt like I was in a simulation. So glad it's over and this is my wisdom for future generations, gotta look out for future inventors!
APEH, If you're looking for a professor who gives dog instructions, grades with no clear rubric, and refuses to offer any opportunity to revise or learn from your mistakes, this is the one. Straight hawk tuah on his dog instructions and grading. If you want to mess up your gpa this is the class to take, hundo.
There's a lot of reading, but if you read a chapter a week then you should be fine! The tests heavily affect your grade, but if you take notes & consistently study you'll also do well. My favorite part of class was the lectures, you can tell the teacher is really passionate about the subject. I was really invested in the material & learned a lot.
I encourage everyone to take this class- it is incredibly impactful and well worth your time. There is a fair amount of reading and weekly discussion posts based on those readings; however, the material is engaging and makes the effort worthwhile. The professor responds quickly and doesn't grade harshly, as long as you show genuine engagement.
Great class! Weekly readings, discussions, 2 essays, and one project. Lots of EC. It's hard not to learn in this class and it helped me understand my own roots deeper. Professor Lee is not an easy grader, but if you put in the work, you WILL succeed! He is also very kind, knowledgeable, and caring. Also gives amazing feedback.
Run!!! Just Run!
Run!!!! OMG just run!
Mid-semester, I was really struggling because there was a lot of work, a lot of reading, and a lot of writing. Also, with each paper grade I got back, I did not feel like I was getting the grade I deserved. I reached out, and surprisingly he was open, honest, and fair. It is hard, but this class was one of the most rewarding ones I have ever had.
Prof. Lee has a clear grading criteria. Not A LOT of reading and writing but be prepared to write many analysis paragraphs and discussion replies to your classmates. His class I found easy because I kept up with my work and did not procrastinate. If you take this class DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. He also has a few extra credit assignments to help you.
He's very picky with how he grades if it's not the way he's instructed it to be he won't give you a good grade or a grade. If you're looking for an easy A find another class. Expect a lot of writing and a lot of reading. Worst online class I've taken in a long time.
Professor Lee is not it!!! Really tough grader, poor lectures, bad and vague feedback. Does not let students even look at outside sources even if they are academic and trustworthy. I wish I would have read his reviews before selecting the class because I would NOT have taken him. Don't do it literally just run the opposite way and save urself
Class was so bad I had to withdraw near the end of the six week period, and I have never dropped a class so close to the final days. His instructions are vague, and he gets upset when you email him for clarification. I'm not the only one who dropped. Literally most of the class is gone. There are probs maybe 10 students left or less. SAVE URSELF
I regret taking this class and have dropped it. You're gonna read a lot and watch videos. He is a tough grader and gives feedback that barely helps at all. Do not miss any homework as it'll impact your overall grade. Lacks communication and barely gives any extra credit. Expect to do more when you take this, even if it's just online asynchronous!
Would take this course again. The assignments were not too bad. Just be prepared to write in this class. There are short dicussions and short chapter reflections and short virtual field trips. There are also extra credit opportunities that helped me boost my grade. I would reccommend.
There was a lot of readings and videos you needed to watch each week, so I would highly recommend getting ahead the week before. His grading isn't super difficult but he does look for evidence and quotes from the textbook so you have to read. Make sure to stay on top of everything and focus on the essays. They make up most of the grades.
The professor is extremely complicated and sets expectations that feel completely unrealistic for the level of the course. He was not interested in teaching in a clear or approachable way. Instead of focusing on concepts that are practical and helpful for students, he overwhelms the class with unnecessary detail and difficult assignments.
I should have avoided this class because all the ratings are true. Tough grader, not helpful at all, so much reading and writing. Won't ever recommend to anyone. Not sure how professors like him keep their teaching jobs. RUN!!
If you still decides to take the class be ready to be overwhelmed with a lot of reading, movie watching, tough grading, discouraging and judgmental comments. I felt like i am a part of nazi army. This professor definitely must have a lot of internal struggles going on and he is reflecting his bitterness on the students. AVOID!
You can work your butt off on an assignment just to receive a 30/40 with very little feedback. I didn't understand the expectations because it was very unclear. At some point, I just gave up because it felt like nothing I did was good enough.
Feel like 5-unit class. Insane amount of writing, & 20hrs a week. Be prepared to write essay in each discussion, 2x a week. No matter how much you read/write, still criticizing. Expectations unclear, dosn't teach. Be a mind-reader. Used 6 references for the entire discussion post (2 from each reading) & was asked for more- graded me 6.5/10- UNREAL.
I did not sign up for another English course. More writing than my English class.
Horrible. Worst teacher ever.
The best way to pass the class is to not procrastinate. He sends an email every week about what assignments are due.
worst teacher. do not take him. grades horribly. SO MUCH WRITING AND READING.
Most difficult class, I was confused most of the time. Immense amount of reading, heavy coursework, nit-picky grading. Started with 37 students down to 10 students. Would not recommend if taking other classes. Expects too much for the point system he uses
Professor Lee's class was extremely discouraging. The workload is unreasonable, his grading harsh, and his feedback unhelpful. He expects you to read his mind, and his assignment prompts feel like confusing puzzles. I recommend avoiding this course due to the stress and unfairness. This experience left me feeling lost and disappointed and drained..
Very tough grader, never gives full points. Get ready to read a lot.
Believe these bad reviews and please save yourself. Find a different professor who cares about your success. His class was a time consumer and I was taking physc and calc too. He grades your stuff but never leaves good feedback for you to reflect on so you can't grow from your mistakes. Also, these high reviews are weird. We see you Daewhan!
This class is VERY demanding of your time and participation. Professor Lee has considerably tough expectations and harsh grading. However, getting an A is manageable if you do exactly as he says. Discussion posts should be 500 words and textual evidence is REQUIRED in every post. If you can't devote ample time to this class, find another professor.
Dis dood has the personality of a SpongeBob character who enjoys the stench of his own poo while criticizing everyone else's. Generally, criticism is Levi's
