Dr. Kwon is just amazing! I knew nothing about Chemistry before taking this course and I completed the semester feeling so much more enlightened and wanting to know more! He genuinely cares about the success of his students and will go out of his way to be available if additional help is needed. Exams are all based on lecture, so take good notes!
At first his accent made it hard to fully understand him but you get used to it. He truly loves what he does and wants you to succeed. You just have to put in effort & do your part. There's total of 6 test including the final. Tells you exactly whats on the test and gives study guide. Use his office hrs to get extra help he is waay better 1 on 1.
Dr. Kwon is an awesome professor and funny too. He is very helpful in and outside of class. He provides a lot of material to review on your own like videos and a well organized outline of what you will be covering throughout the course for studying purposes. Take advantage of all the material provided and just ask if you need help!
Wants students to pass. Try hard to make many students understand lecture.
Kwon makes sure that all of his students understand the material. Before each exam, he gives a review & goes through the previous semester's exam with the entire class. Gives extra credit -- like tons of it in each class. Wants all of his students to pass! He's one of the best professors I've ever encountered. Recommend!!!!
I enjoyed his class! Only thing that bothered me at times is he can be very scatter brained. Overall I would take another class with him! He gives many opportunities for extra credit and is very understanding when it comes to grading. He is very passionate about wanting all of his students to pass. Never used the text book. Online homework.
Dr. Kwon was the my first college chemistry teacher, and it took awhile to get used to his teaching. Although, he is very passionate about chemistry and makes sure that the students REALLY KNOW the material. Chemistry is a hard, but Dr. Kwon really went out of his way to help students, with extra credit and group review sessions.
Dr Kwon genuinely cares about his students, but absolutely puts their success in their hands. Will provide you w/all the practice you need but up to you to teach yourself. If you don't understand, go see him 1 on 1. He knows his stuff; not great at breaking things down step-by-step in classroom. If you master the ?s on his ppts you will do well.
Dr. Kwon is a genius! He sometimes teaches a little too fast but is always willing to stay after class to help. He records his lectures so you can go back on them (but this doesnt mean you can skip class & still get the lecture!) Overall, if you make an effort, hes willing to help you! Listen carefully because accent is a bit distracting.
Dr. Kwon is brilliant!!! He is easily one of the most inspiring professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking a course with. Yes, his mannerisms are a little funny, the cultural differences make for some interesting miscommunications, but if you are willing to pay attention he can seriously have a major impact in your life!!!!
I am so anxious in a classroom setting, but on the first day, he made me feel so comfortable! He gives out so many resources and genuinely wants you to understand and pass!
This guy is so circuitous that even he gets lost. He'll lecture for 2 hours and give you 10 minutes of useful material. He gives extra points on nearly every quiz and test because they are riddled with so many errors. He'll tell you he'll give you the formulas and constants and then will forget to unless you remind him. TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!!
Dr. Kwon is super intelligent and very helpful. He is sometimes difficult to understand during lectures and sometimes gets off track but he really knows his material. I passed this class by constantly making an effort to meet up with him after class and studying in the Science Lab. Chemistry is a difficult subject but you must put in the work!!
Dr. Kwon is a great teacher. He does everything imaginable to help students pass his class, from recording lectures to posting tons of resources on Blackboard. The content is difficult, yes. You have to work for a good grade. But Dr. Kwon really does care about you passing, and that makes a difference.
Dr. Kwon is amazing! He goes the distance for his students! He takes time to work with the student who are struggling. He give each student a ton of resources. He posts his lecture videos. He does independent tutoring. Chemistry is very hard, but he is always willing to help! He is a very kind and caring man!
Dr. Kwon is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He will do all within his power to help you pass his class, but you have to put in the work. Hes always available to help you individually, and he will not give up on you. We had fun times in class, Ive cried in his office, and I will without a doubt take another class with him
Dr. Kwon is awesome. I am taking him this semester and I highly recommend him. He is very helpful and sets you up to pass. As long as you pay attention in class and participate there is no way you can fail. He gives you plenty of tools to pass.
If you want to learn, do not take this teacher. If you know chemistry and are fresh out of high school this class would be great for you. Very fast pace, not good at actually teaching. Wanna learn something watch videos on Youtube.
Dr. Kwon is one of the best professors I've ever had. This class is very easy for me but I know many people find it difficult and I can understand why if it is your first time in chemistry. Dr. Kwon knows people are new and goes at a very slow pace and is literally always available for one on one tutoring. It's a mistake to take anyone else!
He is the GREATEST teacher I have ever had. He wants his students to do well and does anything he can to help at literally any time you ask. He gives a lot of extra credit and makes class interesting. He goes over everything on the test and makes sure you know exactly what to study. He records his lectures for if you miss class and is always happy
Will take of points for not showing simple calculations. He will start to cover something in class but will then skip past all examples and application. The homework assignments are very long and include things that he does not teach in class.
Fantastic communication, understanding of student needs, fair to everyone, extra practice questions, extra convenience on blackboard, always available outside of class, lightning speed email responses, tons of extra credit opportunities, great lectures, wants you to succeed, funny sometimes. Paying attention in class landed me an A.
Dr. Kwon is truly exceptional. He really cares about his students and their success and will go beyond expectations to help them understand difficult concepts. He'll zoom conference you, post lecture videos, and old exams for reference. Very smart and pretty funny too, and definitely contributes to an awesome classroom atmosphere. Take him!
If you want to pass chemistry, hes the best instructor i would recommend because; he gives an amazing lecture, he records the lecture incase you dont show up and he will drop your lowest scores such as lab. He helps with lab too if its too much and hes willing to help outside classroom. He has texting line so u can ask question in class.
He honestly loves what he does. He really wants his students to succeed. He has a heavy accent so it very hard to understand him and he sometimes struggles to form his thoughts well when teaching. He offers a lot of extra credit but if Chem is already a foreign language to you then I wouldn't recommend his class.
Kwon has been my favorite teacher!! If you struggle with chem take Kwon! He only tests you on what he teaches you and he is very clear about what will be on the test. It requires studying but overall its easy. Im def taking Kwon again for Chem111.
Dr. Kwon is great. He really strives for you to succeed had has a lot of resources for you to do so. I took his course during the Covid-19 pandemic and it was a super smooth transition since he already had his lectures online along with homework through Cengage. He was prepared for Armageddon. Hes very kind patient and in a good mood.
Hes extremely understanding and really cares if you pass his class. He tries to make sure you understand what hes teaching before moving on but that means you also need to ask questions!
This man literally changed my life and career path, never have I had a professor believe in me more or be more understanding or caring for me
Dr. Kwon is the best. he truly wants everyone to get a good grade. I'm retaking his chem 111 class because I wanted a better grade for myself and don't regret it. He is a wonderful guy. When I first took him and I was struggling a bit he pulled me aside to chat, he reopened my old homework and everything just so I could get a better grade
Kwon is a very nice, caring professor but he has a very roundabout way of teaching. He will teach you how chemists do the work and will say that we aren't smart enough to do it so we will do it a separate way. The homework is long but only worth a small amount of points. But overall I'd take him again. He will give hidden and extra credit points.
Chemistry is the hardest class I have taken but Dr. Kwon truly cares about you and wants you to succeed. Only problem I had was that he flipped through slides fast sometimes. He is really nice and cool.
Kwon is nice, and caring in his own weird way but his lecturing is all over the place and extremely hard to follow. Taking notes is impossible during lecture so do it before class. He does give points here and there that are like extra credit. The homework is horrible and a waste of money. He will zoom with you to "help" and go over issues.
BEWARE! I wish there was a way to upload a video so you can see the circus you're getting into if you take Kwon. He's unorganized, tests and quizzes are riddled with errors, he's condescending, he makes it difficult to want to ask questions because he'll make you feel and sound stupid. I have no idea how this man has such a high rating. WORST PROF!
Show up and pay attention to the slides. Meet with him for extra time if you need it (he makes himself available!). Ask him for hints about the tests, he will give them! Ask to use a note card on the exam!
Kwon is a truly caring professor, albeit a little aloof at times. He's like a quirky older uncle who loves chemistry and isn't hip with the kids but really cares about their wellbeing. His classes are NOT organized, but he'll spoon-feed you what you need to know. Past exams + quizzes are most helpful in preparation.
Dr. Kwon was a great chem prof. He cares about his students and tries really hard to help them succeed. He does do group activities. His tests are somewhat difficult, so make sure you study well. He also makes you keep your camera on (for virtual class) for attendance purposes.
Class is painful. Beginning of the year, he was good but@end, he started rushing. All of the students were/are VERY confused. You will definitely need to study HARD outside of lectures. There is quite a bit of homework, meaning it is time-consuming. I had to use internet sources to learn anything. He's said he doesn't know what he's doing in class.
Dr. Kwon is a phenomenal professor and genuinely cares about his students both in and out of the class. His class is hard but he teaches every new category in the same pattern making it easy to remember and apply. You will want to participate in class as this gives you bonus points for your grade but he makes it very easy.
Dr. Kwon is very nice, and he really cares about your grade. He offered extra points every day just for participating! The class itself isn't very easy but Dr. Kwon is good at accommodating. My class found his tests quite difficult even when we did well on practice tests, but he usually curved the grade. I would take a class of his again!
Kwon is nice and he cares. Lectures has a lot of information but he sounds passionate when he teaches, so it makes me learn better and engaged. There are long difficult hw to be done which is time-consuming, but helps your grade. Past exams is helpful. Gives out extra points for participating. Have motivation and study all the material you need.
This professor is AWFUL. He doesn’t listen when students ask questions, and just tells us to go to the in class tutor instead. He doesn’t lecture, you learn everything through online videos that aren’t even helpful. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
My favorite teacher of all time. Take him if you don't want to suffer in chemistry. Super easy to follow and will help you to get the grade you want. He gives out past exams which are super helpful when studying for the tests.
Dr. Kwon is the best Chemistry teacher I have ever had. Lectures are fast-paced, but very informative. He is very dedicated. He makes sure that the whole class is confident for the upcoming exam. He is very accessible outside of class hours. Overall, it was a positive learning experience having him as a professor.
This teacher already has everything posted online that you need from day 1 to the last day. He is very passionate about Chemistry. He tells stories to help you better understand how Chemistry works and uses amazing analogies. On labs make sure to write everything down that you use. His class was always very entertaining and easy to stay engaged.
Professor Kwon is very caring. He made chemistry easy to learn and always reexplained things as many times as you need to understand. He is very lenient when it comes to due dates and gives you many chances to earn extra credit.m
I took this class as a junior in high school and did not struggle with much. Kwon is an amazing teacher and wants everyone to do well in his class. He posts old quizzes with the answers on Canvas and goes over them with us and gives out extra credit like candy. Hands down, he is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Dr. Kwon is amazing. He makes his lectures fun and gives 20 extra credit points. Take advantage of that! He posts lectures and videos and previous exams to help you study for exams. He gives you everything you need to study for the final including the topics and chapters to find those topics in. You do have homework but they are really easy.
Dr. Kwon is an okay professor. He knows Chemistry but he doesn't manage his time wisely. He gets behind and then rushes during lectures so when it comes to his quizzes/exams you don't have enough time to study. However, he does post old quizzes and exams on canva which are helpful. His hw is time consuming. I watched a lot of youtube for his class.
This class was an absolute circus! I probably could've learned more if it was taught by Stevie Wonder. The only reason I got a B in this class is because I took Chem 107 with a different teacher. Even then he was hard to follow and he was very disorganized. He makes you feel stupid if you ask questions. Half my class dropped because of the Prof!
Great professor-highly recommend taking his classes. He posts past semester tests and quizzes on Canvas, which are incredibly helpful for understanding what to expect on exams. He genuinely cares about his students and is very accessible outside of regular hours. You can expect three tests, several quizzes throughout the semester, and labs as well.
If you are reading this, DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE BAD REVIEWS its all LIES... Professor Daekeun literaly tells you whats going to be on the exam and what to study NO CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR DOES THAT, All you have to do is go to his lectures and LOCK IN (pay attention) and you will do good on the exams. HE makes chemistry VERY EASY. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Kwon is hands down the best professor I've ever had. He makes learning fun, and tells you exactly what's on the test. He encourages asking/answering Q's. Chemistry is a difficult subject for many, but he made it simple. I'm going to take his CHEM111 class just for fun because I enjoyed his class that much. Don't listen to the poor reviews!
Professor. Kwon He is a great professor! He has a great passion for the subject, which made the lectures interesting.I liked how he would use real life examples. His ability to break down complex concepts into manageable and understandable pieces has made a subject that can often feel intimidating, not only accessible but genuinely enjoyable.
Daekeun Kwon is a great teacher who truly cares about his student's success. He explains difficult topics in a simple way and help students understand better. His past exams and quizzes are available, making it easier to prepare. He grades fairly and often includes extra credit questions to help students improve their scores.
If you are taking Chem then you want this professor. He sets his students up for success and offers up to 20 points of extra credit which is a huge help. He gives you past exams to use as practice but is still different from the actual exam. Any resource or material he can give his students to help them succeed he does. Helpful and avail for ?'s
Dr. Kwon was an amazing professor. His lectures are very interesting, and he always encourages asking questions for extra credit. He also stands in front of the class and teaches the subject instead of reading off a slide. If you participate and engage with the class and the resources given, then you're almost certain to pass with an A.
Dr. Kwon was easily one of the best teachers you could get for chemistry. His syllabus was set up from the very beginning so you knew what was happening. He offers extra credit if you raise your hand to answer questions from lecture. Super helpful if you don't get something. He will literally explain and practice until you understand.
Chemistry 111 was the worst class I've taken. The teacher is disorganized and hard to understand. His exams are confusing and way too hard, and he gives no real help or feedback. You basically have to teach yourself everything. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
Chemistry 105 was disappointing from start to finish. The lectures are hard to follow, and the teacher doesn't seem to care if students understand. The exams are tricky, the labs are unorganized, and there's no real support. It feels like you're completely on your own the whole time.
This class was super easy and Dr. Kwon made it even easier! He gives extra credit for answering and asking questions in class. I will admit sometimes he's a little hard to understand, but he teaches in a way that can easily be comprehended. He's super understandable if you can't show up on a day too and will set up a zoom meeting.
I expected to learn in an organized and supportive environment, but instead I had to teach myself nearly everything. Tests didn't match the lectures, and labs were messy and confusing.
There was a big disconnect between what was taught and what appeared on exams. The tests felt like guessing games because the lessons didn't prepare us properly.
There was barely any feedback, so you never knew what you were doing right or wrong. Labs were messy, lectures were unclear, and it was difficult to improve when nothing was explained.
Dr. Kwon is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely understanding and knowledgeable. He gives us a ton of resources to help us succeed. For example, we have access to old test questions to practice, as well as videos, lecture videos, lecture slides, lecture notes, and a tutor in class. His lectures are informative and engaging! 10/10
Exams were basically guesswork. If you like rolling dice with your GPA, this is the class for you
onfusion was basically the teaching style. I was constantly like... huh??
Nothing in the lectures actually helped on the exams. It's like we were learning one thing and tested on something completely different.
Labs felt like we were just thrown in with no clue what to do. Everyone looked lost every single time.
Every time someone posts something honest, it's gone. Guess we're not allowed to tell the truth here lol.
This class was a nightmare. No clear lectures, no help, just confusion and stress every week.
Nothing made sense. The teacher didn't explain anything, and the labs felt like random chaos. Easily one of the worst classes I've taken.
Every lab was unorganized, the instructions were unclear, and nobody knew what was going on. Total mess.
You'll spend more time trying to figure out what's being asked than actually learning chemistry.
This class drained my energy and my GPA. The lectures were all over the place and the exams didn't match anything we learned.
I stopped expecting to understand anything after the first few weeks. It's just confusing slides and impossible tests.
You're completely on your own. No guidance, no feedback, and no clue what's happening half the time.
Easily the most disorganized class I've ever taken. The labs, lectures, and tests all felt like different subjects.
It's not even that the material is hard — it's that it's never explained in a way that makes sense. Everyone in class was lost.
Felt like the goal was to confuse us, not teach us. Every assignment was a guessing game.
Honestly, this class made me hate chemistry. I used to like it, but now I just want it to be over.
f you enjoy stress and confusion, take this class. Otherwise, save yourself the headache.
Every lecture felt like gibberish. No explanations, no structure, just confusion and panic.
You basically pay to teach yourself chemistry. The class feels like a solo survival challenge.
No matter how much you study, the exams make zero sense. Nothing connects to what we actually learned.
The labs were chaos, the lectures were random, and the tests were impossible. I stopped trying halfway through.
It's like the class was designed to make you fail. No support, no clear instructions, and no communication.
This class made me question my life choices. I worked hard and still had no idea what was going on.
The slides didn't help, the teacher didn't help, and the lab manual was useless. Everything felt disconnected.
Easily the most confusing class I've ever taken. Everyone in class was lost and frustrated the whole semester.
Labs were disorganized from day one. We'd walk in not knowing what to do, and leave just as confused.
The teacher rushes through everything like we already know it. No patience, no real teaching, just chaos.
You'll spend more time Googling than actually learning. I learned more from TikTok chemistry videos than this class.
I thought I liked science until I took this. Now I just want to forget chemistry exists.
No clear instructions, no real feedback, and tests from another dimension. Honestly felt pointless
Every exam felt like it came from a different class. What we studied and what we were tested on never matched.
You think you're behind? Everyone's behind. No one knows what's going on, we're all just surviving
The lectures were just words flying past the screen. Zero explanation, zero clarity.
Felt like the teacher didn't even care if we understood anything. Just rushed through everything.
No study guides, no feedback, no help. Just vibes and confusion.
Hands down the worst-organized class I've ever taken. Everyone I know struggled and no one felt prepared.
I actually like chemistry… but not after this. Completely ruined it for me.
Every assignment felt like a trap. Nothing was clear, and the grading made no sense.
I stopped asking questions because nothing ever got answered clearly. It's like talking to a wall.
The labs are a mess. No instructions that make sense, and everything feels rushed and random.
Disorganized from start to finish. I honestly don't think the professor realizes how lost everyone is.
The exams are evil. Stuff on there was never even mentioned in class. It's like they want you to fail.
The class was painful. No structure, no feedback, and every test felt impossible.
Dr. Kwon is great! Be ready to study outside of class, but he gives practice exams, extra videos, extra credit opportunities in class, and records his lectures.
lecture goes very fast which makes it way harder to understand, asking question is hard based on that most times he just tells you to ask chatgpt or you end up just feeling stupid, youre pretty much just teaching yourself and also get ready to have quizzes every single week.
I swear he writes his own comments. No real student would say this class is easy.
The pace is crazy fast, no real help, and constant quizzes. Not worth the stress.
You're teaching yourself while trying to keep up with a super-fast lecture every week.
Everything goes too quick, questions don't get answered, and there's a quiz every week.
Hard to follow, fast lectures, and no clear answers to questions. You end up teaching yourself.
This class felt like trying to read a chemistry book written in another language. Nothing made sense.
Even when I studied for hours, I still couldn't understand what the tests were asking.
If confusion was a course objective, this professor nailed it.
Instead of helping us understand, it felt like we were expected to already know everything. No real teaching happened.
I have been trying to raise my grade but he makes me feel like I can't even go to him for help, because for example he shows the stats on every quiz/test and makes those who did less than an A feel bad. This course is extremely hard and often we don't get through everything on the lecture slides then expected to just know it for the tests. ):
All the students complained the whole semester and nothing changed. Definitely not worth the stress.
Good schedule provided. Extra credit for answering questions during lecture (20pts max). provides old tests for practice and worksheets. prerecorded lab instructions (WATCH). Little homework. Tests+final are 50% of grade. Easy to contact. Encourages AI use. Can go on lecture tangents. Labs can get confusing. Tests can be hard, study hard for them.
Dr. Kwon is a good professor, someone on here is just spamming bad reviews. He offers extra credit, practice worksheets, exams and quizzes. The only thing is his lectures can feel disorganized bc of how he teaches.
He doesn't help at all when you're struggling. If you ask for help, he makes you feel dumb instead of explaining things. He won't tell you how to improve your grade, and there are no partial points even when you try your best.
He's one of the most disrespectful professors I've had. No kindness, no help, just rude comments and frustration.
Easily one of the most confusing classes I've taken. You don't get the foundation you need, and the material just flies past you.
The quizzes were random, the lectures were confusing, and the labs felt completely unplanned.
Honestly one of the worst teachers I've had. He doesn't care if you fail, doesn't care if you're confused, and offers no real help. I couldn't understand a thing during lecture and he's rude when you ask questions.
Honestly he doesn't deserve a 2.4 rating someone is just trying to ruin his reputation he is an overall great teacher and he give a lot of extra credit.
Dr. Kwan was an incredible professor. Chem 105 is not an easy course, but he is happy to help however he can and gives extra credit opportunities. Hands down one of my favorite professors I have had.
He doesn't care about whether students are passing or not. No support, no effort to explain, and no help with improving your grade. The way he talks in class is impossible to follow
Really bad teaching experience. He's rude to students, the homework is overwhelming, and the exams feel impossible. His explanations are hard to understand, and the class is nothing like the reviews made it seem. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
I don't know who is complaning,. There are more complaints than he has students this semester. Kwon is helpful and very supportive. He wants his students to succeed in his class. He has helped me a great deal: online and in office. The complainer must come in with a grudge on his/her shoulder.
This class was rough. The teacher wasn't nice to students, didn't explain well, and the homework felt ten times harder than the lectures. The exams were extremely difficult, and most of the time I couldn't understand what he was saying. I signed up based on the reviews, but it definitely wasn't what I expected.
My experience of Dr. Kwon was great. Very helpful, easy to understand. He took difficult concepts down to a level that I could understand. He made extra time for me with zoom meetings on weekends and stayed after office hours so we could meet.
Definitely a rough course but you HAVE to fully engage yourself into the lesson. If not, you must teach yourself outside of the classroom. I went to every lecture just for information about what will be on the test then studied afterward, that helped a lot. He tries to answer questions but I'm more confused at the end of it. He's cool as a person.
From my experience, this teacher wasn't helpful at all. He gave extremely long homework assignments, impossible exams, and his lectures were hard to understand. He was rude anytime a student asked for help.
This class was confusing from day one. Nothing was explained clearly, and every assignment felt like guesswork. I had to teach myself most of the material.
Really bad teaching experience. He's rude, the homework is way too hard, and the exams are impossible. I couldn't understand his lectures at all.
Definitely take his course if you must take General Chemistry I. Awesome classes. Material is crystal clear. Understand the homework and you do well on exams.
As long as you attend class, take notes and do your homework, you will learn and do great in this class.
Kwon is an excellent instructor. He received the best teacher award this semester, elected by his students.
Kwon is an amazing teacher. He cares about student learing and is always available for help - even on weekends. I read the reviews below mine and wondered what class that person was in or if they have the wrong school.
He is good professor, he offers a plenty of resources and extra credit. There is someone on here spamming bad reviews, if you study you will be fine. I didn't so my grade was ehh. The only thing is he can be hard to follow in lecture sometimes.
