Difficult to understand.
Terrible! Could not understand him, huge group project and ridiculously hard tests. Avoid him at all costs. Not helpful outside of class, thought that you should have understood him.
He brings in good examples and video cases that help understand. He is really nice and cares about his students.
Prof. Kim is the best teacher in the school of business! He clearly described everything we needed to know and he cares about his students.
Dr. Kim is very nice. He really wants the students to learn the information. Hell, he e-mailed me about my grades when I was doing bad. The tests are a little tricky (well I thought they were).
I thought he is very nice.
the absolute best teacher i have had at florida state. he does not want you to do bad in his class, he will help you with anything. very understanding.
Great class. Go to class every day so you do not miss the notes and ask him as a class for a study guide because otherwise he will not provide that. I liked his class a lot, he is really professional so every time you talk to him approach in a very professional matter, but he is really cool cares about the entire class. It is a really easy b+
his lectures are purely off powerpoint. attendance is part of grade. his test are reasonable. he gives no outside help AT ALL. he's extremely nice, but u cant understand his lectures but the powerpoints are the lecture. i would take him again if it was necessary
He is a smart guy. Very nice and helpful. Many great examples that will help you in class. Highly recommend.
Great teacher. He's always available to help anyone. I've had him for three classes and I would take more if he'd be teaching. Dr. Kim is way better than Dr. Knight.
Daekwan is hilarious..he's seriously the funniest little man you will ever meet. You have 6 tests and he takes the best 4...their is a group proj at the end of class but he's a decent grader...I left the class with a 99% All tests are straight from the powerpoint slides ;)
Basically the exact same as MAN 3600. I went about half the time. I studied for about an hour before each test(I just took the first 4 b/c he only counts 4 of 6) and put about 4 or 5 hours into the project and I got an 83. People who try really hard can get A's but 75% of the class gets B's so if you don't mind a B or B+ this class isn't bad.
Come to class and put in some input every once and a while in discussion, otherwise get a large Starbucks beforehand because you'll be asleep in 15 minutes.
He is great.
I like him.
He's a little hard to understand him sometimes because he's korean but he's got a good sense of humor and puts inuendo in his lectures that i dont think even HE picks up on. Tests are pretty easy and lots of opportunities to boost ur grade with ez assignments
I enjoyed his classes.
I recommend him. He is quite good.
He is really good. I wish I can take more courses from him.
I liked his class, he is very nice, very helpful, pretty easy class with lots of grade boosting opportunities. Learn a lot, really good professor overall.
It is a tough course but Dr. Kim did a great job in teaching the course in general. The SPSS assignment at the end was quite challenging but learned a lot.
Great Teacher! The test are very hard and be prepared for a challenge if you take him. He is very helpful and expects you to know the material very well I would take him again because I learned a lot.
He is very tough! Tests are hard and you need to study from the book and the powerpoints. If you don't go to class you won't get the participation credit or the answers to the powerpoints. You have to participate in every class. He wants to help students, but he is very confusing. If you are looking for an easy elective, take another class.
Very nice guy but his class is extremely tough, especially the tests.
Overall not a bad professor, but there are 6 exams...4 of which are graded. 2 group projects with 25 page paper and 30 minute presentations. Not an easy class
He does not seem to know much about the subject he teaches, and his explanations are often so confusing that he trips himself up. The tests are unnecessarily difficult and ask specific questions from the book that were never covered in class. Would not recommend.
Dr. Kim was very frustrating to have as a teacher. His accent was extremely thick and it took a lot of focus to understand. He gives 6 tests, 9 mini assignments, and a group project. He was an awful lecturer and made it hard to take notes by spending only 3 seconds on each slide. He requires participation and is inflexible in most matters.
Liked him a lot. One of the best professors at FSU. I am not sure how an instructor could be more flexible and helpful than he is. Few losers out there.
He is a great Professor but you have to work and read. This is a great class if you are interested in the Material and if you work well in teams for projects! Talk to the professor and let him know you!
Very tough course, but he is very dedicated and wants the best for his students. He is a good lecturer despite his slight accent, but ha is still very easy to understand. I would totally recommend his class.
Although he did not bump me from a B+ to an A- when I went to every class, took the time to go to office hours, and participate when I was .4 away, the class was fairly easy and he cares about his students. The group project will bump your grade as he is pretty lenient with grading.
He seems like he really cares for his students, but the tests were much harder than I expected. You have 10 discussion boards, but he only grades your 8 best. You have to reply to 8-10 other students responses every week... which is a lot. It wouldn't be my first choice for an elective, but it was not horrible. Only 3 out of 4 of your exams count.
6 Tests, participation points for speaking every day, excessively difficult group project. He teaches like a textbook and makes it very hard to comprehend. He's too knowledgeable on the subject matter to break it down in terms that are easy to understand and looked confused when you don't get it. The whole class was lost 95% of the time.
Dr. Kim is tough. He's so knowledgeable in data analysis that it seems it's tough for him to break down the lectures on an easier level. He's also from South Korea, so there is naturally a language barrier there. BUT, he cares. Go to his office hours; he'll help. Put in the extreme amount of effort this class takes and you will pass.
Would not recommend for online course. Tests are difficult, and there is a group project with 9 other students that requires a video which kind of makes no sense considering it's ONLINE. However, he does take the time to clarify what he requires in the course and ends up curving/dropping some bad grades at the end of the semester. STUDY or fail.
Dr. Kim's MAN3600 is one of the hardest classes at FSU. The content is not too difficult but the tests are written very very well. Be prepared to study for hours for this class and not do so well on exams. He does curve the exams and drops the lowest one. Group project is easy. Class could be easy but he makes it hard. A nice man, however.
MAN 3600 is a very difficult class, so watch all of the video lectures and pay attention. I would recommend reading If you want an A in the class. If you put in work & focus you'll be fine in this class. Daekwan Kim is a great professor, very nice guy. He cares about his students and will put in a lot of effort to help you if you reach out to him.
Definitely go to class, Prof Kim gives participation points every day. grade consists of 6 tests (but only top 4 are used), fairly easy group project, and participation. Notes for the test are only taken during his lectures so go to class. Teacher is fine and the class is nothing crazy.
Boring lectures and insane exams. Weekly quizzes that you can use the powerpoints for and get a 100. He's changed his grading scheme twice now because so many students are close to failing.
Dr. Kim is one of the hardest professors I've ever had. His exams... oh man. good luck. I would study for days and days and still end with a C on the exam. I went to see him at office hours and he told me that making a study guide wasn't the right study method and to make my own test questions... how am I supposed to do that when he makes the test?
People who are saying this class is really difficult are honestly just lazy. If you watch the lectures he posts and read the textbook, you should do fine in this class. He gives you a study guide for all the exams and does not test you on things that aren't on the guide. He also curves the exams like crazy. Not a super easy A, but very doable.
Terrible communicator. If you are confused, talk to him multiple times and ask the same questions in different ways. Had to do this and last minute, he realized he messed up and my grade was not what I thought and got annoyed when I tried to clarify and push back. Showed email proof of what he said to get him to admit he was wrong. 4/10
I've got 8 weeks left with Kim and want to hit myself in the head with a brick.
I had Dr. Kim during the Covid Spring semester and I have to say he was one of the most understanding profs I had. If a good handful of students say they are struggling with something (ex: a chapter, his no computer in class policy, an assignment) he actually makes adjustments and tries his best to help, you just have to let him know
One of the easiest and most interesting classes in the COB. Dr. Kim is so knowledgeable and makes it SO EASY to get an A- curves everything a ton. Don't wait till the last minute to watch the lectures and you'll be able to understand everything and get an A.
This is the sweetest professor I have ever had. His lectures aren't super exciting, but they are straightforward. He obviously knows a lot and loves what he teaches. Had him during COVID, and he was super accommodating to everyone struggling. If you watch the lectures it's fairly easy, but you do have to study.
I had Dr. Kim for my first fully-remote semester back at FSU and was intimidated by the other reviews left for his MAN3600 course, but I found this class to be a joy and completely doable so long as you pay attention to his lectures (I thought the covered extremely interesting topics.) He is extremely accommodating and cares about his students.
Everyone gave Kim horrible reviews I almost didn't take this class. This class was interesting, but does require work. Watch the lectures and GET THE TEXTBOOK. Read the textbook chapters for better understanding of the material. Kim was very nice and made an effort to make sure his students were successful in this class. Ended with an A- take it.
Mr. Kim is a great teacher!! He is very understanding when it comes to any problem you may be having. The quizzes in this class are not difficult but the exams are a little harder. You really need to study to do well. Other than that, great professor and great class!!
Online lecture videos are a bit hard to understand due to his accent. There are a lot of tests & they're not that easy, as questions are detailed (some include math). Dr. Kim really cares about his students & is always be willing to help! Not an easy A, but definitely passable (you have to work for the higher grade).
This man is beyond accommodating to his students. You only have to speak with him about an issue and he will go above and beyond to help you out. He wants everyone to learn and wants to make sure everyone passes his class. His lectures might not be the most interesting but they are tolerable. Tests are a bit hard and you have to study but he curves
I've never had a professor that cared about their students as much as Dr. Kim. He is so sweet and does everything he can to help his students succeed. Dr. Kim also offers a lot of help outside of class, and the class itself is relatively easy if you study and do assignments.
He is a great guy. Class can seem a little intimidating and the lectures can be boring, but he is EXTREMELY accommodating. He responds to emails quickly and if he can't help over email, he'll set up a Zoom. He curved the tests and decided to drop our lowest exam to be more accommodating during the pandemic. Exams are still tough-- study
The class was more based on statistics than marketing research and if you're confused about anything... good luck. His lecture videos are extremely complicated to understand and that's where the majority of the information for this class is provided. I pretty much taught myself throughout the entire class.
Started out rough but professor decided to adjust the test and quiz policy to accommodate. Definitely put in a little time to watch the lectures and try your best and youll be ok.
professor Kim is amazing & incredibly understanding. his lectures are very straight forward & his test questions are straight from his lectures. the content itself can be tricky at times, but if you put in the time you will be fine. he is always accessible outside the classroom to meet as well, and is very nice.
He is the best. That is all I am going to say.
Like most of the reviews state, Dr. Kim is a nice guy. That doesn't mean he has a nice class. Only take him if you do not want to have any time to spend on your other courses, due to endless studying for the tests that you are going to fail, regardless of how much you have studied. He curves, but only to make it look like his class average is high.
Very kind professor! Adjusted the course to drop our lowest grades and weight our best grades higher than our worst to encourage us and help us do better. However, he required us to learn a lot of material for this course. Test questions were very specific and challenging even with hours of studying.
The degree of laziness in these reviews is astounding. Not only does Dr. Kim curve every single test considerably, his exams are very fair and many questions are taken from his quizzes. For each exam in the course, I only studied for a couple of hours or so the day of, and got above a 95 on each exam after curves. Dr. Kim is incredibly fair.
Down-to-earth professor. Lectures are on the longer side. Weekly quizzes are open note/book. Exams are decently difficult - most students get a B or C, BUT: he dropped the lowest exam score (out of 4 exams, all noncumulative). Plus, GENEROUS CURVES, e.g., mine were: 86 --> 92 82 --> 92 80 --> 90. Also changed weighting to favor your best exam
Material itself is not difficult and he delivers the material well through his lectures. However, the way he words his exams is incredibly difficult and somewhat unfair. Just know that the amount of work you put in to this class does not matter one bit if you do not understand what he is asking on exams. All exams are curved.
Very nice professor, however he is VERY hard to understand.
Great guy, good professor. The lecture videos can get boring and hard to follow. If you fill out and study each exam's study guide, you will do will on the exam. He is very caring and made many changes to the syllabus in order to help us. The content ranges from easy to difficult, but if you study, you'll be okay.
Dr. Kim's class is difficult until you figure out how to study for it. Watch the lectures and follow along with his PowerPoint slides that he provides and you'll be much better off. He's always available for help if you need it and really wants to make sure his students succeed. I absolutely loved the class is so interesting!
Dr. Kim is truly a caring man. The tests were very hard but he curved them significantly. The lectures are a little hard to follow along to and understand but he wants to help his students and the final became optional. I ended with a B and did not take the final. There are weekly quizzes that are super easy and given multiple attempts. Manageable.
Entertaining and engaging professor who can even make online lectures seem interesting, has reasonable expectations as well. Would take again.
He is a super kind guy and cares about his students The test are extremely difficult but he curves them so much that you will pass the class. He also drops the lowest exam grade.
Honestly the most Caring Professor Ive had, hes curves his test to benefit students and wants you to do well.
Professor Kim is a life saver truly. He cares about his student's success and offers a crazy amount of extra credit. If you study in enough time, you will do well on his tests anyway without the extra credit. His lectures are helpful, and he's just an overall great professor!
Dr. Kim is a great teacher. You should do fairly well by watching his lectures and studying before tests. Even if you don't do that, he gives extremely generous curves and adjusts the course grading in your favor. I think this man would find a way to pass you even if you were doing everything in your power to fail.
One of the most respectful and caring professors you will ever have at FSU. Honestly underestimated the exams and did not do as well as I hoped. Exams are pretty tough, but he is so generous with curves and grading. Great guy with interesting lectures.
Everyone hates on this man due to his accent. I think Dr. Kim is intelligent, respectful, and this class was interesting. I don't think you could fail this course because he curves heavily to help students out. Just take it!
I took this class online as a minor course in spring of 2023, and Mr. Kim has been one of my favorite professors at FSU! He is very kind and understanding, I would definitely recommend taking this course if needed.
Exams are very hard and 80% of your grade but he will curve them. Quizzes are easy and he makes grading fair.
Good Professor a quiz about once a week and 4 exams. Exams are weighted heavy. Very kind overall. Last minute to help his students he decided to take off the lowest exam and the 3 lowest quizzes. Cares about students success which is nice.
Professor Kim is absolutely fantastic and wants all of his students to succeed. The exams though can be pretty tricky. Like you will want to know just about everything from definitions to charts and everything in-between. He changed how he graded my class part way of the semester by dropping an exam and reweighting the other ones.
I mean, no disrespect, but trying to follow along to his lectures is slightly frustrating. 50% of the time I cant understand the words he is saying and I lose focus during lectures, causing me to rewind multiple times just to hear that one important piece of information. He is very understanding with test grades and often gives applicable curves.
This guy is a great professor. He curves almost all exams and drops the lowest one at the end. He cares about his students and their success in his class. Exams can be challenging as he asks for almost anything covered in the lectures, but take good notes & study and you'll do fine. He relates a lot of the content to his personal examples too
Although Kim does offer significant credit for the class and drops our lowest score, it is nonetheless a very difficult class due to the exams. It is set up for students to pass, not so much get an A in.
You can study and still manage to fail. He does curve every test, but he should since he makes the tests impossible. I have learning disabilities and struggled on the tests because he is very hard to understand in lectures and makes the test sooo much harder than they really need to be. He has the opportunity to make this class easier but failed.
Amazing professor who wants his students to succeed. Everyone here that says his course is hard simply does not take notes on the lectures, as that is all you need to at least score a B- on the exam.
He's hard to understand, he gives obscure test questions that have more than one right answer, and he doesn't put all the information he puts on tests in the slides that he posts, which I find the most annoying about his class. He does curve tests usually, but I have to assume its because everyone would fail otherwise.
Dr. Kim is HILARIOUS! It takes around 3 classes to get used to his accent, but, when you do, he is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's from Korea originally and uses the cultural differences as a way to build rapport with students. A good tip for knowing if a professor is good or not is if they teach MBA students. He definitely does.
4 exams and a weekly quizzes. The exams are very difficult because his notes/powerpoints sides aren't as in-depth as they could be explaining things. Most exams I got either a B or high C however, he curves so hard that I get almost A's on his exams. Overall easyish class. He has a very strong accent making it hard to understand him sometimes.
he is a nice guy but his accent makes him a little hard to understand and exams are hard for no reason. there are big curves on the exam but its honestly just not worth it.
At first I was nervous because of the language barrier but he makes videos on the just important points so its not bad. The first 2 exams you have to study for but his questions are easy you are just expected to know a lot. The SPSS system is so easy and he gives so much extra credit. Not an easy class but he tries to give everyone fair grades.
A very nice teacher offering me the help to drop the course when I asked for help in regards the final exam. Now I have some PTSD after taking this class.
Dr. Kim is knowledgeable and cares about the success of his students. He offered many EC opportunities for the classmates who were falling behind to catch up. His lecture provides super detailed instructions for you to apply in the tests. Initially, I had some difficulties to understand his accent, but eventually got used to it with no issues.
Other teachers might be easier. The lectures are rough—you'll be rewinding every 10 seconds. When you hit the testing center, you may wonder what you even learned from those videos. You leave the testing center baffled but ... fret not! You'll likely see a hefty curve when the grade posts on Canvas and to that I say, cheers Dr. Daekwan Kim.
Honestly one of the best professors ive had at fsu. He offered 25 points of EC on the 2nd exam along with dropping our lowest exam grade and dropping our 3 lowest mini quiz grades. All you have to do is watch his lectures and take notes on them to prep for the exams and youll get at least a B. He also managed to make the class extremely interesting
Dr. Kim made lectures interesting and easy to understand, he is a fair grader and it seems like he genuinely wants his students to understand the material and do well, not just in his class, but in the future.
This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had taking an exam. EVER. No one cares how much you know about a subject when you use the absolute worst possible methods in conveying it. To make something that is this conceptually simple into astrophysics is outright lunacy. AVOID, if possible.
"People who are saying this class is really difficult are honestly just lazy. If you watch the lectures he posts and read the textbook, you should do fine in this class. He gives you a study guide for all the exams and does not test you on things that aren't on the guide." BS. Or you cheat using Chat GPT or some other tool. Cut the nonsense.
The class is harder, especially since it is online, but he wants his students to succeed. He curves exams, and dropped the lowest test score and some lowest assignment scores. If you start off strong in the class, you can take advantage of these grade boosters at the end of the semester.
He post lecture videos but slightly hard to understand, content is a little rigorous but he genuienly wants us to succeed. He's curved up to 20 points on exams, drops the lowest one, and drops the lowest quiz as well. If you apply yourself you will do good.
Excellent professor who wants his students to excel! You will do good in the class if you watch the lecture videos and do the practice quizzes before the exams.
