its a finite math class in the library; its hard for him. he has a spanish accent that with some words its difficult to understand, especially if the microphone isnt working. make it clear and LOUD if you need help, b/c hes kinda spaced out
he has a spanish acent but for the most part i understood him and i got an A in his class. he very helpful and understanding
wow. I have never had as much trouble with a math class as much as I had with this class. moves too fast. unclear. Apparently most freshmen who take this class fail, or have to drop this class. (yep I was one of them)

This guy seems like a very sweet man, but i failed this course. im usually very good at math but the poor man didnt know how to teach. he was very difficult to understand and i would say 3/4 of the class dropped it because they were failing.
i took his class at miami dade, he is a nice guy when you speak to him before or after class, but he is not a good teacher, he expects to much from his students even when they are struggling, i wouldnt reccomened him

Good guy- willing to help out with extra credit points. Often unclear (thick accent), doesn't always understand the question you ask. Often makes errors w/ trig (everyone does.) I think the grading scale should include assignments- remembering every detail in trig is nearly impossible.

Don't get me wrong, the guy is totally sweet and has a good heart. Teaching wise, I do not recommend him whatsoever. His class averages on his tests ranged anywhere from 45%-60% in grades. I feel bad saying this because he is so nice, but...he was a BAD teacher :( Almost the entire class failed his course.
man..i had him twice when i was in highschool (teaches at miami springs) i passed because i worked on my own. never could understand him and i speak spanish, and he doesnt know how to explian and is sooo not helpful, i learned everything on my on. oh and just my luck...so far hes the only available teacher around my FIG class, im dropping him 4sure

Professor Dagoberto Magana is a wonderful mathematics instructor. If you pay close attention during class and practice the homework assignments, and speak to the professor about any questions you may have---you should be successful in the course!
Hard to understand sometimes, but he is very patient. I felt sorry for him, people gave him**** and he took it.
do not take this teacher from day one he talks about droping his class and if you dont you have to know math highly to pass caue he just goes by the book period

He rushes through each section as if you should know never going back to help. b first test c second and horrible on third and final. Did not pass although had high hopes i understood content. This is a wonderful mathematics instructor...possibly the best at Florida International University. Do the work and attend the class and the rest should come easy. Tests are related to examples from the textbook.
Disregard any negative information/review on Professor Magana. He is a well prepared instructor that knows his material. He is always willing to help ALL students excel. He does have a strong accent, but if you attend class regularly and do the homework, then you will succeed.
It's not that the actual class is hard but this teacher cannot teach at all! He could be helpful at times, but I strongly do not recommend this teacher at all for math!TRUST ME!

This is an excellent teacher!!You just have to do all the work and ask which ever questions you have beacuse he will always be there to clarify any doubts!the homeworks are not mandatory but is better to do them because they help you a lot for the tests..and to aks questions..If you want to get an easy A you better take this class!i really loved it

He cares about the students passing his class. He's easy compared to other professor in the dept. Very possible to get an A if you do the hw, and get help if you need it his tests are not hard. TAKE HIM

Very good prefessor. He is very wiling to help and is very thorough in his lectures. Must study in order to pass this class and constantly go over the material. There are three exams and one final written by the department.
he really not as good as they say. before th drop per he gae the class there grades and about 85% of the class droped please dont take him like i did and im really good in math
Be careful with this guy- hes smart and knows what hes doing but has a habit of rushing and disrespecting students who dont understand. Besides letting people blatantly cheat, he does not alway recognize when people really do try. Outside of the classroom, like at office hours hes not a bad person at all and tries to get to know his students.
Whomever did not like this prof. is crazy! He is super nice and he is also helpful. If you go to his office hours he is always willing to help. Most of the test are about the examples he shows in class. If you take good notes and do the homeworks daily you are guaranteed to pass with a good grade.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have had in my entire life! I am not over exaggerating here. This guy disrespects students who do not understand and races through the sections as if you knew the material already! If he sees you are struggling, he tells you to drop the class! Takes up half of every class by bragging about HIS accomplishments!
The reality is, this professor knows his math and is very nice. He goes over material if you don't understand, and lets you meet with him in his office for further help. But he only grades you on the three exams and final. Not the easiest, but not the hardest.
If you already have taken trigonometry before, you can pass.If not,you will need more help than just his class or you will fail or get a low grade.(Unless you are VERY good in math)The teacher is a nice person.The 4 tests are SUPER hard and might be different from the book content.Homework not graded but DO IT to pass.
AMAZING professor! Would take him over in a heartbeat. Had him for Trig, really gets to know the students and is not one of those cold detached professors. He truly cares and will help you out if you have any problems with your grades and progress. If you are determined to get a good grade DO THE HW assigned as the tests are from there!
He is the worst professor ever he goes through each section as if you have taken this class before. I agree w/ a prior comment he spends 1/2 of the class talking about his accomplishments and he does tell you to drop if you are struggling. HE IS HORRIBLE!!!
Prof. Magana is somewhere on the scale between plain awful and mediocre. It is easy to get frustrated in his class, he teaches it as if every single student was a math major. I think that teachers are supposed to help you on the path of higher education but with professor Magana I I couldnt help but feel that he was trying to an obstacle.
Come on people this is college do the hw he wont collect it and it wont count but its going 2 b what u find on the test there are no tricks up he sleeve Sometimes hell make silly jokes but hes just trying to get people interested. His notes are clear you really can't ask for more I had him for both algebra and trig and i would take him over & over
Horrible!! he thinks people in his class are mind readers and can predict what is going to be on his test. He does not abide by the class syllabus HORRIBLE. He doesnt review properly . DOnt waste your money on him
I took him over the summer and I thought I was going to die! He taught 6 chapters, and every single section in that chapter. Some teachers skip sections in the summer, well he doesnt!! His tests were about 15 questions long, and not all the material he taught was on his exam. He doesnt give study guides for his tests. I got a C!
He is an okay proffessor. Not the greatest but not too bad either. He really does try to help his students and he makes an effort to help you pass. The only issues I had with him was that he never responds to emails and that he does not encourage questions thus no one ever asks anything.
Yea so i took this class and failed in miserably despite my efforts. He had awesome handwriting but it doesnt help when you have no clue what youre doing. May the power of theta be with you! God Bless! Take this class at MDC!!
Very good math professor. Amazing how people say negative comments about him. Hes stragedies are easy and tries to make it as simple as possible! easy A! all you people who think are otherwise are obviously morons this class was cake! would defneatly take him again!

Very good teaching method. I didn't do well because I was taking too many classes and working, and this class does require a lot of studying, but he is very clear, concise and helpful. Much better than most math professors at FIU.
Professor Magana is a good. what he teaches is usually what is going to be on the test. the questions from his test come from the the homework he assigns, so one has to do all his homeworks. some times gives a pop quiz just to see how is doing their h.w. gives partial credit and extra credit on his tests. when having a doubt he is very helpful.
IGNORE EVERYTHING NEGATIVE!!!!! AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! SUPER EASY HIS TEST ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE HW! REQUIRES ONLY A LET WORK. DO THE HW AND GOT TO CLASS AND ITS A GUARANTEED A++++

He was great! This is my second time taking trig because my previous prof wasn't good. Tests are from the homework so no surprises. Professor is very clear with everything and has very organized notes. Do your homework, study, and you'll pass!
If you've taken trig before then this class is an easy A. If not then you'll have to do the homework work so you can understand. He is very dedicated and wants the students to succeed. He knows the content very well and explains and provides many examples. If you want to learn and get a good grade in a trigonometry class, then take this professor.

Great teacher, anybody that thinks they can pass a math based course without doing ALL the homework is kidding themselves. I'm already signed up for MAC 1114 with him for next semester.
he is awesome he wants you to succeed if you do the homework the test will be a breeze if you dont ha goood luck! he really wants everyoneto pass and do a great job! he is kinda hard to understand but totally great.
This will be a mixed review. He is a VERY good teacher. But his tests are kinda hard. DO ALLLL homework. He gives u questions from HW on the test! ALOT of extra credit so you can make up for bad grades. He does not curve. If you are dedicated you will pay with a B and above. Just go tot he class, and do ALLL Homework and you will be good!

I can't remember the exact course code but it was business calc. I am not a MATH MAJOR, nor do i LIKE MATCH. This is the run down, his tests are hard BUT, half the questions come from homework, other half comes from in class problems. DO HOMEWORK AND YOU PASS. Will give extra credit for homework done. If he sees you trying he will give you credit!

He is the best calculus teacher. Explains very well. Gives extra credit for you doing the homework. Exams are not easy but if you study you have nothing to worry. He is really nice and will to help you.
This class is difficult but if you really study and get the free tutoring fiu offers you can pass. This professor is very caring, knowledgeable, and fair. He is always available office hours and works with students as needs arise. He does have a Spanish accent but other than that is great.

He is an amazing teacher, explains work well, writes crystal clear notes, and always goes out of his way to help his students! he even changed all the math lab dates to the last day of calls so everyone can re-do them, and test are on the notes and hw very easy
This guy is a joke, he teaches 2+2=4 and puts e=mc2 on the test. clarity isn't in his definition of life. he love radicals and fractions and unless u can teach urself the material (which if u have any modern book, u cant) u will fail. 4 out of 25 people passed my class i was one of them with a C and i am an A student. sold my soul just to get a C

I really liked the way he would explain everything. His notes were very easy to understand. The only bad thing is that the tests were 10x harder than what he would teach during class. Other than that he was a good teacher, and he changed our math lab due dates many times.

I love this guy! He explains things very clearly and he gives extra credit on the quizzes :)) I got a 72 on one quiz and with the extra credit it went up to an 87!! You need to put effort into learning some material but if you go to class and take his notes, youll understand cause his notes (and his handwriting!!) are crystal clear :)
He assigns online homework and then goes over the whole thing during class. He then goes on to talk about how calculators are bad, or about how good in math he was when he was young. So he wastes all your time and then he tests you on things that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the homeworks. This class really hurt my GPA. I do not recommend him
He's a great teacher, he explain things very well. But he sometimes does get side tracked... but its because he is compassionate about math. My suggestion for anyone taking his class is to do the online assignments and do extra problems out of the book online and you'll be fine. His test is only easy if you practice outside of the homework he gives
He teaches the subject pretty well however his tests do not reflect what he teaches in class. In order to pass you have to do well in every test. No resurection final. Do every problem on every homework assigned because he only tests you on the hard problems. Good techer but I would not recomend him because hes test are unfair as well as hisgrading
Teaches the material very clearly, dude has perfect handwriting. His tests are NOT easy, however, if you show up to class and do all the homework, study, etc.. You will not only pass, but actually learn the material. Does tend to ramble a bit at times, but he knows the material very well. Like I said, if you're responsible, you'll be ok.
He teaches one or 2 problems on class the rest of it he just talks about his childhood and how hard life was when he was in school. The tests are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT it does not relate to what he teaches, read and do all of the problems on the book as he will put the hardest one on the test. If you can afford it GET A TUTOR. NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR
worst math teacher i have ever had the displeasure of having. I did ALL the hw, got everything right, & then on the test if you miss one TINY thing on a difficult problem then you may get 1 out of 8 pts for it ridiculous!! difficult tests and very unfair grading also he wastes half the class time talking about his life story -__-
do all the extra credit. Do all the EVEN problems also because that is where he gets a lot of questions for the test. If you go to class take notes and do the hw (odds and even and figure out the questions you don{t get) then you can pass the class. make sure to look over the questions he marks wrong b/c he makes mistakes, especially if you solve
His class is hard. he grades the way he feels like it.. if u fail one test expect to fail them all because he marks u as a failer and gives u the least amount of points for each problem.. only take him if ur good at math.. and remembering.. I unfortunatly was not. :(
The worst teacher ever. He does not give extra credit. The test are the hardest ? in the book. Does not have office hours. He says if you dont understand go see a tudor. He tells you to memorize about 20 formulas for the test because he will not give them to you on test day. Only talks about how smart he is. Grades unfairly. Does not give a review

Look, I had failed Finite because I slacked. I DESPERATELY needed to re-take the course. I was motivated and committed to go to class every day, do all the homework, and study. I read his reviews and thought that I could pass regardless. I would teach myself, if I had to. But it is impossible to pass him unless you're a math genius.
Don't take him for any class, save yourself the whole semester really. He doesn't give any viable extra credit, his tests become impossible, he adds harder things to the material... and in all honesty he made a lot of mistakes that just got in the whole class's nerves, and he made us feel very bad about being in the class, being "unskilled".
This class is difficult! He is a good teacher and can explain the material, but he won't go beyond a few simple examples. His grading system is skewed and his online assignments are harder than expected (especially considering the fact that he accidentaly forgot to teach material on the sylabus). P.S most of the class failed. I made it with a "C".
Not very helpful, talks too much about his schooling experience and how good of a student he was. You must teach yourself and do a lot of practice on your own if you want an A. Wouldn't reccommend him.
This man is the worst teacher I have EVER EVER EVER had. I took this course over the summer as a transient student. He talks about himself the entire time and doesn't seem to care that basically the entire class is failing at the moment. He does not teach. Taking this course as a fast paced 6 week course was the worst idea of my college career.
The best math teacher at FIU, hand down. I took his class summer 2011 and i loved it. HE was very helpful and really made things easy to understand. However, you do have to know your stuff for the test. also another downfall was the my mathlab i hated it. All homework and quizzes were on there so it is very important to pay attention in class
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! your grade comes from 5 tests. He doesnt grade hw and doesnt curve tests. When grading tests his grading rubric is skewed. I had to drop the class the rest of the class was failing the average grade on tests was a 60 go figure! Worst class ever and he doesnt care his students are all failing!

Finite math is supposed to be an easy class but this man make this class really complicated and this is probably the reason why many students did poorly in his class. Magana is very knowledgeable. His exams are tough and I highly recommend you make flash cards of various homework problems because repetition is what will help you pass this class. He doesn't start to offer extra credit until the end of the semester when most of the students have already dropped the class.
WORSE PROF EVER. He doesn't care about the students as he should, is very careless with test grading (lost my test twice) , constantly bragging about his book, instead of explaining the math content. He also does not allow time for the student to understand the content (which is not fair considering his very strong Spanish accent).
