Very cool teacher. presents the course in a very organized manner, making a difficult subject easier to understand. Very tough grader though.
Easy grader. Very slight accent. Presents material in an organized and easy to follow manner. Class isn't bad. Make sure you keep up with the work, though. He's a very good professor.
Nicely proesented material. Easy to understand. He is quite mathematical, but not hard. Gives a fairly large curve. As long as you do the homework, you'll be fine.
I had him for Intermediate Micro. and its a difficult class no matter what, but Okada is a great teacher. Notes are easy to read and clear, and he goes slow, not only this but if you go to his office hours he is really helpful and answers questions really good. Awesome teacher!! Take him, no fear
Good professor- boring, but notes are clear and teaches from the book, easy to study for, exams taken largely from the homework and theres a huge curve. (85+ = A)
Good professor. Very helpful if you go to office hours. Gives good examples in class that's easy to follow.
Very easy class, insane built-in curve and weighted tests means that its hard not to get an A. The lecture notes are online and super-clear, so there's no need to go to class, really. The online Aplia homework is very helpful, but time-consuming; in the end, it lets you not study, so its worth it.
when i had him, he was such a jerk. didn't explain anything clearly. kept ending class early so he could leave even though no one knew what was going on. exams were much harder than examples and homework
Has RU discovered Powerpoint yet? Attending this school is like entering a third world country. Okada used transparencies with an overhead projector. Sometimes he'd put them on sideways, upside down, etc. They'd be blank or incomplete and he'd have to scribble on the things he forgot to write. This is simple undergrad econ. Get econ dept organized.
Very interesting class-- it's basically cooperative game theory, but As are at a premium. Killer final quiz that lowered grades a fair amount. It's one of the only 400 econ classes which is as challenging as it sounds. Take it if you're serious about econ. If you go to class and are fairly apt at math you'll be fine.
Cooperative Game Theory is pretty much a math class, with some applications to economics. Interesting class. Materials is hard, but quizzes are easy. His personal notes (which he posts) are crystal clear. Would have gotten an A if not for the killer final quiz. It lowered everyone's grade. Wound up with a B+.
The final quiz WAS hard, but I got an A in the class. You basicallly need to get a perfect on 4 of 6 quizzes (drops 2), and then pass the final quiz, and you'll have an A. The class is interesting-- challenging, which is uncommon for the econ department. Worth taking if you really like econ, but you'll pay dearly if you slack off.
The class looks hard, but actually not. No homework no midterm. just do what you learn during class, you can get an A.
This Professor's notes are good and the quizzes are taken from them, but the class is fast-paced and the book is essentially useless. He does not like to explain things you don't understand and tells you to look in the book, so don't take this class if you have trouble understanding advanced econ.
Teacher will not use the book at all. Will have quizzes that are on material he never taught in class. And hates explaining anything he teaches. If go to office hours just makes you do problems and makes fun of you when you don't get the problem right
Good professor, not as bad as people say. quizzes are similar to examples given in class. Not hard to get A in this class, just go to class,PAY ATTENTION, and DO the practice problem. Should get AT least an B.
Mean to give 4 for easiness for the comment below.
Just memorize how to do each of the problems he teaches and you'll be fine. Quizzes are straight forward. Don't even bother buying the textbook, it's useless for his intermediate micro class.
this class is a killer. i got all A in econ classes, and a C in this stupid game theory... 6 quizzes, drop the lowest one. but most of them are ridiculous, the average is a C in this class. avoid him
No assignment, no quiz. Only 2 midterm+ 1 final, plus a make up exam... Each has 30 multiple choice! Boring but if you read book before exams, it's not a difficult one.
Typical econ class at RU. Go to class for understanding of slides, or just study on your own. Textbook not necessary. Test banks posted online along with PPTs. Easy A for Econ majors..
great guy. read book and go to classes and you will get an A
moves really fast in class, if you miss two classes you'll probably be lost for the rest of the classes, half my class didn't know what was going on and he didn't seem to care too much... generous grading scale (B is a 73) but class ave was around a 40 for the first exam and he doesn't curve. wish he cared more for the students...
At first, the class seemed easy. His lectures were really clear, the notes were great. But he never gave you problems pertinent to the tests. The tests, I found, were extremely difficult and not representative of the taught material. I wouldn't recommend him.
be prepared for a lot of math. his problems are hard to follow and he isnt too good at explaining. the textbook is only helpful for the definition questions on his exam, but for the math you must try your best to follow along in class. VERY HELPFUL in office hours. i never really felt prepared for the exams and ended up with a C+
This professor uses a fair amount of calculus and a lot of graphs (typical for Micro) in the course. Overall, he was a nice guy, but didn't quite prepare students that well. Luckily there was a huge curve for each exam and the course.
this guy can't teach. He skips a lot of steps in examples. He makes a lot of mistakes in class. And i don't know how he is rated a 3.5
Avoid, he isn't clear and exams are impossible. Although he allows for retake to make up for one exam I would highly suggest against taking.
he's okay. he explains things multiple times but its because the material is confusing so he does his best for students to understand. exams are pretty difficult. if you're a decent econ student, should be okay. average for first exam was 12/22 and theres 4 plus a final. does iclicker quiz every class like 5 questions a class
DON'T TAKE HIM unless you want to turn your semester into a nightmare. He moves way too fast in class and doesn't really care if students understand the materials or not.Exam average was like 8 out of 20. He does have a curve but if you get an average on exams you will fail.
final was CRAZY. everyone didnt know what was going on. and the bail out exam was way too hard too when this was our chance to bring up our grades. he sucks
Avoid taking this class. The professor does not teach well and his exams do not correlate with the material we learn. He does not respond to any emails or messages. Grading scale is whack.
He showed up to class not knowing what to say and he gave exams that he could not even pass. Made the class difficult for no reason and Therefore, he is not a good professor. Do not take the class unless you are a fool.
This guy is terrible. He can't teach and purposefully makes this class hard. Must pay attention every class to get a decent grade on clickers. For exams, they used to be based off of a test bank, but not anymore - much harder. Take another econ elective.
For someone with a PhD you would think he'd be somewhat intelligent. Don't take this class what so ever if you value your GPA.
Terrible class. Don't take any classes with him if you value your GPA.
Class was next to impossible
Do not take this professor. Exams are impossible, class is impossible even though an 80 is an A. Makes mathematical mistakes at least 5 times each class. The way he teaches does not encourage any sort of learning.
I was in a study group of about 10 people give or take. Everyone who tried got either an A or a B. You can complain about him being a horrible teacher all you want but he tells you what to read, what to study, and it's up to you to get the grade. Make no mistake, this class was challenging. Plus Okada is funny!
Don't get me wrong--This class was very challenging, easily one of the hardest econ classes at rutgers. However, Okada is very helpful and genuinely wants his students to do well. The curve on this class makes it nearly impossible not to pass. Go to class, go to office hours and make an effot--you'll be fine.
As everyone said, the material actually not too bad. But the way he teaches is meh... Some of the exams are pretty much from the practice exam, which was pretty easy. But the final though kinda hard. But I still get a B+ with all the clicker quiz and what not. He curved big too, so it was an alright class for me.
exams were hard, teacher wasn't very helpful, gave us a generous curve at the end when it looked like everyone was gonna fail, I got an A but when I got out of the final exam I wasn't even sure if I would pass.
This guy is awesome. He makes his lectures very clear and it is really important to take notes and read the textbook. His exams are very hard but he cares for his students by giving extra credit often. Everyone who is complaining is complaining about the TA who grades everything and basically screws us all. He is good and generous.
Prof. Okada is helpful but the class is impossible; the average for the first exam was an F (not curved) ... but there was a slight curve at the end. Do not take him unless you want to have the worst semester of your life. Fair warning.
Took him for int'l econ. The class was all confusion and pandemonium. He should certainly get more organized; exams are so vague and metaphysical they are fraud. He lectures on off-topic calculus isoquant models, and assigns textbook readings of no avail. stay far far away, lest fail.
Professor Okada is VERY helpful during office hours and will sit with you until you get it. He will even meet with you on days other than his office hours. If you actually try to do well in his class, you will. Make use of his office hours and go to class!
The tests he gave/way he taught was borderline criminal. He failed 47% of the class with the curve, quiz averages in 30s/40s. Quizzes were insanely difficult and his lectures were incomprehensible due to his lack of explanation. Office hours were useless due to his unwillingness to help/crowdedness. Avoid taking this class with him at all costs.
The worst professor I had in my entire time @ Rutgers. 2/3 of the class will fail, he is unorganized, lectures off-topic, and creates erroneous clicker questions that will destroy your avg. I should have read these comments before, but I made a huge mistake. The 1/3 that did pass, failed before. Everyone looses regardless of academic proficiency.
I came into this class not having done any math in two years. My advice is go over calc (specially algebra), MAKE STUDY GROUPS, and study the text book and practice problems like if your life depended on it. Yeah his class was a little rough, but with enough effort his curve will make it worth it. Btw I got an A. Anyone who failed needs to study.
Your grade is just based off of your quizzes and he drops the two lowest. He sends practice problems to help you prepare for the quiz each week and they are basically identical to the quiz itself. No reason to not at least get a B with minimal effort.
there is no reason not to get an A or a B, the quizzes are straightforward and are the same as the practice problems he gives. NO EXAMS :)
Okada is a nice guy like everyone says but sometimes he can be a bit confusing and his lecture notes tend to have mistakes. When he teaches it's a bit easy to get bored but if you fight through that & may attention you might actually learn something. The quizzes are done using MyEconLab which can be hard but shockingly his exams are fair.
Best Econ 320 professor. 11 quizzes and drops lowest 2. I had two low quizzes because I didn't study thinking I would drop them but then I missed one quiz so I was stuck with 3 low grades. Still ended up with a B+. Professor is very clear and quizzes are similar and often the same as the practice problems.

Don't have to attend class, posts weekly HW quizzes using MyEconLab, and posts exam questions with answers online before each test (he'll post about 200 questions and will pick 50 to use on exam). Overall an easy A if you do the quizzes and study off the exam review - I got an A without ever going to lecture.
He test are based of the practice problems. He is extremely nice and will help you till the end. I had a family emergency and he was the nicest professor I ever come across. He offers extra time and tell me I can take the exams when I am ready. Couldn't ask for a better professor.
He was a blessing for my first semester at Rutgers. The HW was online, and was very easy. For the tests, he would give us practice problems to study. It was a lot, but I studied them all and aced all the tests. I even got a C on the final, and because of my HW and test grades, I still got an A.
Despite me skipping class and barely reading the chapters I was amazed to see that I got a B. If you do his exam reviews, practice on MyEconLab as well as use the many homework attempts… there's no reason not to get n A. I barely did anything and ended up with a B. All exams were pretty fair. They were easy if you studied efficiently.
Could not sit through more than 4 lectures for the semester. The online homework is time consuming(4 hours week) but if you do it, and do well on it you should do well on the exams.
On the first day, he says don't read the textbook, if you want an easy A, read it. I messed up the first exam bc I didn't read it. 2nd exam, I did so well I only needed a 67 to get an A in his class lol. His exams are tough, but he literally gives you packets with the exam problems on them, if you do them you'll do fine on the exam! Good Luck.
this is a class where you don't have to go to every day as long as you make up for it on your own before the exam. he provides prep questions that are VERY similar to the exam (; make sure you spend a lot of time doing them. other than that all the other work is online and is easy to do even without doing the reading.
Don't show up to class as it is a waste of time. When studying, review power-points posted on MYECONLAB as they are based on the text book. You will need to study for the exams. This class wasn't easy, but it wasn't awful either. He also posts chapter study guides containing MC questions that are found on the tests. Do not cram.
If you are an engineer, comp sci major, and want to bang out this dumb required class without much effort, don't take him. Exam prep+homework averaged about 120 questions a week, or about 500 an exam. Although STEM majors are taught that memorizing answers to questions as opposed to understanding does not merit learning, you have to do it here.
I was worried about micro after taking Sheflin's macro and getting a C. Okada gives you everything you need for exams. The homework is an easy A every time and his exam questions are from his learning module exam prep ques and sometimes they are flipped. study those and use them to understand concepts and you'll be sure to get at least a B.
Nice guy, he's really straight forward, hands out the test bank but beware because on the exam he changes the wording of the questions around. Gets a bit tricky but he's a nice guy, a lot more helpful than other Micro professors. Easy A if you're one of those people that can teach yourself because he can be confusing to learn from - tends to ramble
Lectures were a waste of time, but you definitely need to read the book thoroughly and study the exam prep questions. Most of the exam comes directly from the exam prep but you also need to understand the concepts because sometimes the exam prep questions are slightly changed on the test. The curve at the end of the semester was great.
Worst professor I've ever had in my 3 years at Rutgers. He is very unorganized, has constant mistakes in lecture slides and test prep questions. Lecture is very dry. I stopped going after the first 2 weeks. Only good thing about class is he posts exam prep questions that are the same questions on exams. I read textbook to learn material, not slides
He's average when it comes to teaching the material, but his class was incredibly easy. I didn't open the textbook even once. Just follow along in lecture and do the prep questions - overall easy A.
He's a dry lecturer, and his lectures only really clarify things if you read the chapter ahead of time. Just read the textbook and do the exam prep questions religiously (90% of his questions on his three tests are questions from the packets with a couple word changes, so watch out and don't memorize answers). There were 10-15% curves on tests!
He's a dry lecturer, and his lectures only really clarify things if you read the chapter ahead of time; the textbook is much clearer. Do the exam prep questions religiously (90% of his questions on his three tests are questions from the packets with a couple word changes, so watch out and don't memorize answers). There were 10-15% curves on tests!
Alright let me break it down for y'all. My Econlab the homework, if you're not lazy you should be getting 100%, which was 15% of the overall grade. I've never went to his lectures bc it's simply not necessary nor useful. read the textbook like a bible and do the practice questions from his review sheets. He's not the best but I still got an A
"Hes a dry lecturer, and his lectures only really clarify things if you read the chapter ahead of time. "Guy before me said it all
He gives you practice exams that are kinda like the exams but not completely.. He'll change up the questions in a confusing way. He does curve but the exams aren't the easiest. Easy to get a B, harder to get an A.
dry lecture. don't go. you are better off reading the text on your own. just do all the practice problems and you will be fine. he doesn't teach anything, but if you do the work on your own, it is an easy B, even A. But really, do yourself a favor and don't go to his lectures.
9 quizzes, drops the lowest 2. The early quizzes are easy so make sure you take advantage of them. He gives you the questions beforehand so make friends in the class, go to Okada's office hours, and STUDY. If you do this the class will be an easy A. The textbook is USELESS!
His classes are a bit dry, but he gives so many opportunities for you to do well. 9 quizzes, he counts the top 7. No final. There are two projects, which you basically get credit for if you hand it in. He also gives extra credit. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! Can easily get a B+ if you pass all quizzes, and def an A if you do well on several.
No need to attend the lecture; it'll be more confusing. Just read the textbook, do the homework, and memorize the practice exams word for word before the exams. Same question, same answers. There are no solutions for his practice exams
I stopped going to lecture because it was boring and attendance wasnt mandatory. If you dont want to attend class it is possible to teach yourself. Do NOT read the book. Instead, do the study plans that come along with the textbook online access. He also posts practice exams. Do all of them because all of the questions are repeated on actual exam
Lectures are long but helpful if you pay attention. He will always help you as long as you take the initiative
Bad lecturer. Quizzes have nothing to do with lectures or homework and are worth 55% of your grade.
(intro micro honors) He's a terrible lecturer and doesn't know how to properly calculate the math he teaches in class. His quizzes for the honors section are not related to lectures or the homework and are worth 55% of your grade. AVOID - the subject is easy but Okada doesn't teach it well and can sometimes contradict himself.
This class has no midterm or final, there are only quizzes(one every week or so). He gives practice quizzes that are extremely close to the actual quizzes. Expect an occasional curve ball on quizzes. If you do the projects and do well on the quizzes you'll easily get an A. He also gives a lot of extra credit and drops two of the lowest quiz grades.
9 quizzes, drops the lowest 2, do the projects well because they'll boost you up at the end. All the quizzes are based on his study guides he assigns before the actual quiz. Do them thoroughly and make sure you understand the concept. I always studied the day before and got an A, with the extra credit that is. Also make friends, it helps!
(Honors) Prof. Okada isn't really that bad: I got a B+ simply because I didn't go to lecture and didn't make the work up. The final is extremely easy -- just do the practice exam. Okada is ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP and is VERY NICE. I feel as if he gets nervous during lectures and tries new things that don't always work out. Work hard in class.
I am taking this class currently and feel good about the lectures; he makes the concepts easy to understand, he always gives examples and explains several times until the majority of class understand it. He also translate those professional econ words into regular words that we can understand better. His lecture is clear, and online homework helps.
There is no midterm or final, just constant quizzes every 2 weeks and 4 homework assignments that make up your grade. The homeworks were confusing without much explanation. The quizzes were always either super easy or impossible, no in between. Lectures were boring, if you can I'd recommend another teacher
Extremely ineffective at teaching, so no one goes to class besides the dedicated few. Learning it on your own from reading the textbook is your best bet, and memorize the prep questions. I managed to get an A all on my own merit, not because he taught me anything. The material itself would be easy if he actually talked about it in class
Simple do prep questions and pass the course. Lectures are pointless because attendance is not graded. Put a little time into it and you'll do fine. Don't waste your money on the textbook just write down all the vocab during the free trial period because thats all you'll need.
Not the best teacher in the world, but not a hard topic and class. Skip lecture- it's not necessary. Just do the study plan and homework and skim the textbook for things you don't understand. Study the prep questions before the exam almost the entire exam comes directly from the prep questions and you'll be fine. VERY easy.
If you're looking to learn microeconomics, avoid this professor. If intro to micro is a class you need and you just want an A, take this professor. Do the prep questions and learn from them and you'll do great. You'll have an A average if you put in the effort and that's not even including his curve.
Very good at explaining micro. Thought I would dread this class, ended up thoroughly enjoying it. And learned a lot!
Class was very easy. Just do the prep questions a few times and you will do well. Don't even bother with the textbook, I did not open it once. Take him!
This class is straightforward and easy to succeed in. Do the prep questions before the exam and study his examples from lecture... you'll be fine in the course. Lectures are very boring, professor is rather uninspiring, no excitement/energy toward his students or the subject of econ.
Though his lectures may be dry at times, I had okay experience in this class. The exams were clear-cut and very similar to the study guides he posts on Sakai. Go to lecture since he goes over some of the challenge exam questions (that you can get bonus points on the exam for). Didn't use the book once. Online homework can be very annoying.
NO exams. Only quizzes every two weeks (appx.). Do the test prep questions before each quiz and you'll be WELL prepared. 4 assignments that were all for the most part easy. Must go to class or else you lose 2/10 points on your quiz for each absence. Awesome class. Highly recommend for Intermediate Macro.
Easiest Micro professor out there. This was the easiest A i ever recieved in college. The exams come right off the practice exams and I ended up finishing with a 99. Textbook not needed and showing up to class isnt necessary just do the practice tests and youll be fine.
His lectures are all over the place. Some examples he does on the board can take as long as half an hour, and they only encompass a small part of the chapter. I recommend you read the book first. Otherwise, his office hours are fantastic because he really helps you hone in on what you need to improve on.
Takes forever to do practice problems, but they can help with understanding concepts. Don't really need to go to class, as long as you do the homework, and DO THE PRACTICE TESTS you can definitely get an A.
Professor Okada is in general a very nice teacher. His class isn't hard per say, however reading the textbook before each lecture is very helpful because during his lectures he doesn't really teach/explain concepts so much as go over practice problems. His lectures can get a bit slow/boring.
NO EXAMS. Quizzes about once a week, but if you pay attention in class, you'll get 100. There are assignments too, but those are also easy. Basically - as long as you go to class (which you have to, anyway), you will do well. He's also very patient and fair with his students. All and all, LOVE HIM.
This class is just proving basic econ theory with calculus. Really easy. Just go to class, take notes, and do the quiz prep questions he assigns and you will do well. Assignments were a bit harder but quizzes matter more anyways and they were super easy. He is amazing during office hours as well! Highly recommend!
Not a bad professor, but the method of getting an A in his class has nothing to do with him. Do the homework, read the chapters once, but most importantly, really review the test preps he gives - those are the exact questions he puts on the exams.
His HWs are long and hard and have nothing to do with the classwork. He basically just goes over problems in class but make sure to take notes on these bc these are almost exactly whats on the exam. He doesn't go over theoretical stuff on the exam so to actually understand concepts you have to read the book and self learn.
He might be a good teacher but a tough grader. However, his class is demand heavily on computation. Therefore, if you are not good at math. This is not a fittest class for you.
This class is trivial if you can do derivatives. Every quiz is just taking the derivative of a given function and explaining what the result means using economics. There's a quiz almost every week, but there's no exams so the class is also pretty stress free. I've had over a 100 the whole semester. Easy A if you're confident with basic derivatives.
He teaches lectures slowly but clearly. If you just follow his lecture, you can get a good grade. Also, you can skip the class and just read the textbook. He gives some useful examples in class and provides clear handwriting. Good professor!
Great professor. Does quizzes instead of exams. If you follow along in lecture and do his practice probelms, youll be fine
Easiest Micro professor at Rutgers. Do the practice exams . Show up to class because Okada is cool.
He's fine. Not better not worse. Lectures are super boring and I learned better just reading the textbook. Weekly online homework, pretty straightforward.
I took him because I heard he was easy but I can confirm that he has gotten harder. Instead of giving extra credit on every exam there was only extra credit on the final. The final(25%) is also worth much less than the two midterms(30% each). So there is not a lot of room for improvement if you mess up on one of the exams. The homework is long too.
He had really good lectures and I liked how he would color code the notes he projected from his iPad to the screen. Simultaneous to lectures were worksheets, which weren't mandatory but paralleled what he put on the tests. Tests aren't too bad provided you paid attention, understood the homework and did the worksheets/practice questions he put up.
He's a good man. His teaching style is pretty simple, he uses his ipad to project notes which is great. He answers every question we have. The homework is long but not impossible if you read the textbook. His tests are pretty straightforward if you do the study guides and packets he gives in class.
Professor Okada is an excellent professor for introduction to microeconomics. He doesn't really have too much homework and it is all easy using the online textbook. I probably skipped around a third or more of all classes and managed an A. I don't believe he curves but there is extra credit on the final. Easy course with a great professor.
Honestly was a really good and funny professor for intro to micro. His exams arent that difficult but theyre not easy. Hes helpful if you go to his office hours too. He gives extra credit on the final. Just make sure you do the homework its worth a lot and it could be very long. Would definitely take him again.
Okada's lectures are so dry and boring. Homeworks are extremely long and didn't relate to the exams whatsoever. I would never recommend him if you actually want to learn anything. Even with a lot of effort, it is not easy to get an A, as his exams are unpredictable.
Okada's lectures are very dry and boring. He has two exams and one final and it is not easy to get an A in the class as the tests are harder than the material he is teaching. His questions mostly come from the questions he does in class and chapter review sheets with practice questions.
I'll be honest, our econ dept. isn't outstanding, so Okada is about as good as it gets. He's very dry and off topic in his lectures. Just read the book before class, take care of the online HW, & you'll likely be alright. Getting an A isn't the hardest thing in the world, but staying awake in his class is. He's still your best bet for micro tho!
He is a very nice guy, but lecture style is a bit dry (maybe just the course material though). If you focus on the lecture problems and you'll do alright, don't see how the online homework helps with exams. Grade based a lot on the tests. Class is much harder than people sometimes make it out to be- but if you're an econ wiz no problem.
Lectures aren't the best, but copy down the information and pay attention. He gives practice exams for each chapter before the midterms and similar if not exact questions show up on the exams. Gives extra credit on the final and curved final grades by at least 5%. Put in a little effort and do your work and you'll get an A.
He is a solid professor. His lectures can be dry, but that's just the subject I guess. he explains all the concepts very clearly and will help you if you are confused. The tests are not overly difficult. As long as you do the homework and the review questions, you can get do well on the tests and get an A.
Professor Okada is super easy. I barely showed up to lecture and got A's for the exams. He gives chapter study guide questions to prepare for the exams which are basically the same questions you'll see on the exams. If you show up to the last class before the exam he'll tell you which questions are going to be on there. He's way better than elgawly
His grading criteria consisted of 2 midterms, a final, and homework. I showed up to maybe 3 lectures and still ended with an A. Okada posts practice exams loaded with questions a week before the actual exam. I would highly suggest running through these practice exams multiple times as the questions in these are the same as on the real exam.
Really good professor. Fairly interesting lectures (although you could probably skip them and read the book) and was always available to meet before exams. He would literally sit and answer all my questions. He gives lots of practice problems and explains them well. The exams are super straightforward if you do the practice.
Love this guy, I never showed up to class, but he put a very helpful practice exam that basically highlighted the entire exam. First choice for a micro professor
I hated the material in this class with a burning passion because of all the math but Prof Okada was the kindest human being in the entire world and that's how I managed to survive. He will bump up your grade if you're someone who shows you care by attending office hours like I did. Take his class!
He is a solid choice for Micro professor as he is very direct, clear, and explains the topics very well. His exams can be a bit difficult but most of them are from his study guides he gives a week before exams. There is also weekly homework which makes up 15% of your grade and exams make up 85%. Only extra credit is on final with ten bonus Qs.
Do not take this class if it's online. 80% of your grade are based on MyLabPearson assignments, and there's Study Plan, HW, Quizzes, Test due for every chapter. Professor thinks this is the only course you've got to do, there is simply no way to manage the workload. The material isn't even hard but the way the grading is structured you give up.
He is a great professor. His asynchronous intermediate microeconomics section is pretty straightforward. You do have weekly quizzes and tests which are exactly like the homework. But don't slack off on the reading or work will pile up
This class is honestly easier than intro to micro i dont know why people hate on him so much but Okada taught so well that I barely had to read the textbook at all. His quizzes are pretty easy to as long as you do the practice problems he recommends. Overall a really good experience.
Okada was great, take him if you can.
Grading is grossly skewed. I'm guessing after the first few weeks, grades are set. He has to meet his quota on how many students receive As, Bs, etc. It's blatant, if you're in the B category and get something wrong on a quiz or exam, deducted points will be more than in an A category, if at all for A. A shame since the material was interesting.
I agree with the other reviewer in that grades were likely set after the first few weeks. If you are looking for an "easy" elective to supplement your degree, I'm afraid this class is not that course. Midterm and final were incredibly challenging/abstract and not reflective of the course content. Class was so interesting but far too challenging.
He does a good job of explaining things step by step, but I sometimes felt that he made the class harder than it had to be by choosing problems that required a lot of simplifying and algebra that didn't relate to the actual economic concepts. His TAs were really generous with partial credit though so even if you're not good at math you'll be fine.
Okada's class is challenging but engaging. The grading system seems a bit skewed, favoring some students over others. Still, the material is fascinating. Definitely use Unstuck ai and the free textbook to prepare - it really helps.
Good teacher. Always willing to help you understand topics. The topics themselves can be tricky. But as long as you understand the practice questions he gives for each quiz, you will probably get at least an 80 on the quiz. The final was not cumulative, and we got a cheat sheet.
