Prof. Gao is, by far, the best professor I've had at Brookdale. She's nice, funny, and entertaining. She always has an activity ready for the topic she'll be teaching and is very clear with how she explains things. She grades very fairly and lets you hand in work even if it's late. The only downside is having to sit through 2hr 45min lectures.
I've taken a couple of courses at BCC already and have never had a problem. This professor is awful. She gives group projects on everything, and all she does is read off of a powerpoint. She does not provide any extra help. You either understand or don't, so I hope you're close with your peers because they're the ones helping you. Good luck. Awful.
Lectures are good when they are long only bc the professor is in depth and interesting. Gao's lectures however are not boring. She does not help anyone. She loves powerpoint presentations and she assigns groups. If you don't understand something don't ask, she'll look at you and as if you have three heads and will answer you with an attitude.
Tough grader Gives extra credit She's not interesting I hate giving bad reviews but I really did not enjoy this class. I don't really understand if you do not like to teach and help people then why are you a COLLEGE professor nonetheless
She's just not a good teacher. She's really confusing with her criteria and she hasn't deleted anything from Canvas prior to this semester, so we had quizzes up on canvas that were not applicable to our class. Very boring and very nasty. She won't help you because it takes too much time and effort for her. Ask a student. Good luck.
OK professor. Complete/study the study questions she posts on canvas & you'll do fine on tests. She gives extra credit, on the spot so pay attention/take notes. Posts her slides on canvas. 2 group projects. 1 paper. She gets offended easily & criteria is never explained well. Says she hates teaching... Takes paying attention in class TOO SERIOUSLY
This professor is terrible. She has such an attitude and does not care about anything other than if you attend her class. Do not take her if you can help.
I gave her a high difficulty level because her criteria is NEVER clear. She gives you examples of previous student work and expects you to follow that, Which isn't helpful at all. Nice woman ,lectures and group activities are enjoyable but making her point clear is not her strong suit. wouldn't take her if you care about grades
Not going to lie, the people on here that reviewed her are a bit silly. Her class is extremely easy since the extra credit she gives, gives around like 20+ points to your test grade average, which is huge. The material is stuff I learned in High School and very self explanatory. She's a very kind caring teacher and she truly tries her best
she is a very sweet lady and i don't think she deserves the poor rating on here. study the powerpoints, she practically gives you the answers w/ her study guides. i didnt even buy the book. yes she is unclear at times but if you wing it with the essays and ACTUALLY research, you'll be ok. this class just isn't super easy, but she WILL help you
Prof. Gao was the best professor I've ever had. She was relatable, caring, and sweet. She went out of her way to help her students. As long as you come to class and do your work, it is difficult to get a good grade. Besides, she graded very quickly.
Professor Gao made psychology fun. She organized great class discussions and activities. Her lectures were very interesting. She provided her lecture PowerPoint on CANVAS. The study guide for the exams was helpful. She truly cares about hers students.
Prof. Gao was a great professor. She was always well prepared for class and had many useful tools on CANVAS, such as PowerPoint. The study questions she provided made the exams easy. The way she would relate examples to real life scenario was great. I love Professor Gao and recommend her for all students.
The professor was great. She really made sure we understood what we were doing before she moved forward. The exam reviews are amazing. I like her very much!
The best class I've ever had. She's so relatable and caring. I highly recommend this professor.
If you want to learn, you can learn from Professor Gao. She's fair and wants you to do your best.
I'd like the fact that Ms. Gao took the time to explain how academic papers are structured and did an exercise on thesis statements. She didn't have to do that but showed she cared. Not just getting through the material like some teachers.
Prof Gao is a nice lady and her lectures are interesting. She gave numerous extra credit opportunities. You don't NEED the book bc her powerpoints are great. 2 group projects. 1 paper. All easy just time consuming You can fail all tests and still pass with a B+ as long as you do all other assignments which are not hard. ATTENDANCE! Learned a lot.
Fair teacher who wants you to succeed and do well in her class. Attendance is mandatory as it affects your grade. She is very generous with extra credit opportunities so you can do well in the class even if you do mediocre on the tests. There were 3 tests and 2 papers which were not very long. She is a nice person and I would highly recommend her
I liked this course and this teacher. The subject was was interesting and knew her stuff. I wish she'd teach more psych courses.
It was my last course for my AA degree, but my favorite class at Brookdale. I wish I had taken more courses with Prof. Gao. The class was very interesting, and she was extremely kind and caring. She went out of her way to help you if you were respectful and had a good attitude. With her help, I got an A in this course.
I have attended several community colleges I found Prof Gao to be one of the best. She lays all the course requirements and expectations out at the beginning of the semester so it is easy to understand. Lots of opportunities for extra credit if you blow an exam. And best of all, she makes the class interesting.
I love Prof Gao who's obsoletely wonderful. She's kind, fair, and willing to help. The class wasn't difficult if you attended the class regularly. She provided opportunities for extra credits. I got a pretty good grade even though I didn't do so well on the exams. I recommended her to my friends for the coming Spring semester.
I took PSYC 106 with Ms. Gao who's the best professor I've ever had at colleges I attended. This semester, I am taking her PSYC 208. I have recommended all friends to take her classes.
I am taking PSYC 106 with Prof. Gao whom was recommended by my friend who took PSYC 208 with her last year. It's been the best choice. Prof. Gao extremely nice and cares deeply about her students. The class discussions were very interesting and the activities were fun. I am learning interesting stuff and am getting an A.
Professor Gao was recommended by my cousin who took the same course with her last fall. I am so happy I chose Dr. Gao who was kind, understanding, and went out her way to help her students. People told me that PSYC 208 isn't easy, but Prof. Gao made lifespan development fun and easy. I got an A grade. Highly recommended.
TAKE HER CLASS. Really cares for student. You actually understand and learn the course material, unlike classes where you simply test and forget. Grades derived from: Multiple choice exams, research paper, interactive projects, ATTENDANCE Opportunity for extra credit by attending events and writing response to the event-- she'll be there.
Professor Gao used to be a counselor so she is really approachable and cares about her students. She'll help you in anyway if you reach out to her. I was lucky to choose her class. Highly recommended!
Great class! The class discussions were lively and class activities were interesting. Prof. Gao always listens and cares what each student has to say. She truly connected with her students. PSYC 208 - Lifespan Development has a lot of content, but she made it easy for us to understand it. You will enjoy this class.
One of my favorite professors. She was interesting and incorporated different aspects of psychology to people in history. She was helpful with teaching how to organize a research paper properly. Better than English instructors I've had. Read the book. Study terms. Pop quizzes for extra credit available.
She's very sweet and kind although she's not a great teacher. She reads off the power point and needs to look at her notes every second before lecturing. Many times students asked her queshtions and she didnt know the answer. She was not born in America, therefor has a heavy accent and can get difficult to understand her at times.
Class is super easy and she's a nice teacher. Attendance matters A LOT. If you miss one class, its like 2 points off your grade. Even if you leave early, you won't get credit. Half credit for coming in late. She does have 3 tests- easy i f you study powerpoints. Also a ridiculous amount of extra credit opportunities. Lastly, one hard research paper
Professor Gao is so nice! 3 tests, straight from her powerpoints, I suggest printing out every powerpoint because they have a ton of information & there great to study for the tests. 1 research paper which goes along with an in-class debate. She never lets out early. And attendance is very important, if you leave early she takes points off.
A lot of information in the course and Prof Gao was not the best at covering or explaining it. Im confused by all the positive reviews on here. I wouldnt take her again or recommend her to anyone else.
Will actually stop teaching until you put your cell phone down(unecessary). Does not consider the fact that people have kids or jobs when it comes to projects and still treats students as if they are in grade school. Forgets to talk about/explain GROUP projects so only gives you a week to complete them.
Professor Gao overall is a great professor, but you must be willing to participate in class, study for the test and do the work! She posts her slideshows on canvas (take notes before going to the class!) she expects your full undivided attention! No phones she will kick you out! But I have to admit her class was an easy A for me!
Professor Gao overall is a great professor, but you must be willing to participate in class, study for the test and do the work! Also, participation and engagement are huge in her class so show up! No phones she will kick you out!
I had a great time in her class this semester. She's very good in facilitate class discussions; she respects you and your perspectives. And the class discussions were interesting.
Prof. Gao is a great teacher! I also Had her for hist 225! She has power points and all the work you need on canvas, she had office hours so if you need help go to them and she's super sweet! But show up to class and be on time b/c you will loose points. She is a fair grader and tells you everything you need to pass her class! Take her classes!
I love Professor Gao. She's kind, caring and easy to talk to. Besides, I learned a lot from her. In fact, I will take her PSYC 208 next semester.
It was the most interesting class I've ever taken. It was more works than I anticipated, but some of the assignments were easy and entertaining. For instance, she assigned you to watch some Japanese and Chinese movies as homework. I learned a lot, not only history of modern Asia, but Asian cultures as well, from this class. Highly recommended!
Take her class, You won't regret it.
I just received my grade. I learned a lot and got an A. No complains!!! Besides it was an interesting class.
I had such a good experience with this class. One short research paper of your own chosen topic and three multiple choice exams, plus 4 homework assignments. But the Homework was fun. Professor Gao assigned us some Japanese and Chinese films of drama to watch and then answered some simple questions. Additionally, I love Professor Gao.
It was enjoyable experience. I love Professor Gao and I am going to take her PSYC 208 in the fall.
Very organized class: three multiple choice exams (with a study guide clearly outlined), one group debate. Class discussions were interesting and participation and expression were encouraged. I have never felt valued as a student as I was in this class. Highly recommended!
Here are the characteristics of PSYC 106 by Professor Gao: It's not difficult. You will be respected. If you show respect, she will go out her way to help you. Class discussions are fun. Your attendance and participation matter. It was a great experience for me and it will be the same to you.
class is a easy A. showing up for class on time and not using cell phone counts for a lot. review the study guides and you will do good on the tests. get ahead for the group project and reflection paper.
Participation and showing up to class along with paying attention is very important. Although when asked for help she does not help, she is not often clear about assignments or projects, and she also is not sympathetic what so ever when questions or helped is asked for.
Such a fun class! It was so interesting learning the cultures of China, Japan, and Korea. We were having interesting discussions in every class. I was looking forward to coming to class every week. And I love Professor Gao, such a great professor.
Attendance matters. If you come to class and don't fall behind, you will get a good grade. And the lectures were fun. I will take another class with Professor Gao. Love her!
Prof. Goa is a top instructor. Her class is guided by her excellent knowledge of the subject matter. This teacher was able to teach East Asian History such that every student had a good command of the topics ant the end of the class.
What a great class. I was so glad I took it. It was fun and interesting, and I learned a great deal of cultures and histories of East Asia. I would take another history class with Prof. Gao
My sister recommended Professor Gao. Now I am recommending her to everyone who would need PSYC 106. It was such a great class. Professor Gao made the class so interesting. It was the best class I had at Brookdale.
Incredibly interesting! Professor Gao is especially good in facilitating class discussions. She makes you think critically. I feel I gained quite a bit of critical thinking skills through this class besides learning a lot of Asian history.
I was a biology major. Professor Gao makes psychology so interesting that I switched my major to psychology. Highly recommended!
Great class: the subject was interesting and discussions were captivating. Professor Gao is wonderful. Highly recommended?
taking her class is a MUST, never boring or tedious! by far the best professor ive ever had. she wants her students to do well just as much as they do. her exams are really straight forward, containing a handful of credit questions so its hard to not pass! everything you need to know is within the power points and study guides, i promise!
She made class interesting and interactive and was pretty funny most classes. The tests will be easy for you if you've taken a psych course before. She also gives 10 extra credit questions at the end of each test, which were usually easier than the other questions and definitely boosted my test grades a lot. Really strict about phone usage though!
She's ok but makes you work for it. Give extra credits. She provides feedback on movie homework. 5 movies to watch for homework that has at least 10 questions, 3 kinda hard exams (be prepared), half of the questions won't be on the exams, 1 book essay, and 1 research paper. Turn things on time or you'll be locked out. Do not procrastinate in this.
Very interesting class. Both the course content and the professor are relatable. Professor Gao made psychological concepts very relatable to real-life situations. Highly recommend it!
Best class ever! I recommend Prof. Gao to anyone. She made psychology so relatable to real life.
She is a great professor who makes psychology interesting and fun. I Strongly recommend Prof. Gao for your introduction to psychology class.
Professor Gao is a wonderful professor. Not only is she kind, caring, and relatable, her lectures are interesting and provokes great discussions. I recommend her for your PSYC 106 class highly.
It was one of the best classes I had at Brookdale. Highly recommended!
I took Gao for another class in person, and she was just fine, but she is hopeless online. Uses canvas instead of zoom (makes everything more difficult), asks rhetorical questions and then gets mad when we have no answers, and gets frustrated with US when SHE can't use technology. Locked the cameras once and said it was our fault? Don't take online
Her lectures are not mostly clear and hard to understand AND SHE'S CONFUSING. The tests are far from her powerpoints so I suggest to read the book instead. She says things like "are you guys not thinking?". i would not take her class again.
I cannot stress how awful of a professor she is. She is belittling to students, if you participate, she makes you feel stupid. If you dont participate, she basically tells you you're stupid. Long lectures, and she spends most of the time trying to make people needlessly participate in something she could just teach. Shes mean and bitter, dont take.
The class was so easy but shes such a rude and bitter woman. She makes you feel stupid if you dont agree with her opinion as well. Her lectures are so long and she spends so much time asking us rhetorical questions and telling us to participate for no reason. Her tests are based off the powerpoints. Super easy class, not worth it with her though
Fully online courses can be difficult. However, Prof. Gao made the class easy because of the way she organized the course materials. She organized the course by units and chapters, and she laid out the lecture and assignments under each chapter. Easy and clear, no confusion at all. I love it!
That was the best online course I've ever taken. The course materials were so interesting and ACCESSIBLE. Highly recommend it!
I enjoyed this class very much. It was one of the best classes I have ever taken. Prof. Gao provided us with many extra credit opportunities. Some of the comments posted here by some students were simply not true. Prof. Gao made them participate in class. They didn't like it.
It was a great class. Highly recommend it!
Some negative comments for this class weren't true. Prof. Gao was kind and cared about our learning. She got frustrated with some students because they were doing things they weren't supposed to do such as sleeping or dyeing her hair during class.
It was great class. I recommend Prof. Gao highly.
My friend recommended Professor GAO. It was great experience. It was fun and interesting, and l learned a great deal.
It was my first psychology class, and I was a little nervous before taking it, but I was surprisingly pleased. Prof. Gao made psychology so interesting and relatable to real life that I am considering to major in psychology.
Excellent class, excellent, great professor, and wonderful experience!
Professor Gao is one of the best professors I have ever had at Brookdale. I enjoyed her PSYC 106 so much that I decided to take her PSYC 208 even though I am not a psych major.
Both my brother and l were taking Prof. GAOs class, and we both enjoyed it. Interesting lectures and discussions. Highly recommend!
Professor GAO is cool. Take her class. You will love it
Great professor, great lectures!
The class was enjoyable and the professor was very nice.
She is actually pretty cool. She is very lecture heavy but great at explaining things and makes sure you can memorize the material. she makes class worth going to because you will actually learn something. all around a great person. Very accessible outside of class.
Good online materials, responsive to students' e-mails, and generous grader!
I like her online materials - interesting videos - that help me learn the course content. She responses to my e-mails very quickly. So far so great!
It was a great class. The class discussions were fascinating. I learned a great deal.
If you are interested in history other than the US, this is the course you should take. It has enriched my life.
I would not take this professor if I were you.
She gives extra credit opportunities.
I am really enjoying her class. The content is so interesting and relatable.
I am doing great in this class. The lectures and he discussions were both interesting.
She doesnt get that online lecture is different from in person. Always wants cameras on will lose points if its not on. Old school professor and doesnt get how things are. Is rude at times. Doesnt understand when your technology is having problems and you will lose points for things like that even if its not your fault
The class was enjoyable. Highly recommend!
The classes were so enjoyable. It was amazing that Prof. Gao could make a 3 1/2 hours of class so interesting.
I love psych but she made me dread the class sometimes. It was hard to understand her, she read word for word off the powerpoint, yelled at students if they had psych questions outside of what we were learning, and unit exams were weirdly worded and hard. If you participate every .2 seconds you will be on her good side but if you don't good luck
It was my first semester at BCC. But Im so glad that I ended up with Professor Gao, because she made my first semester at BCC at ease. Her lessons were engaging and useful. She always encouraged her students to participate. I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in taking Psychology- 106.
A friend recommended Prof. Gao, and I am so glad I took her class. Recommend her to anyone who is interested in PSYC 106.
If you want to take history other than American, this is the best course to take. I learned so much about Asian history and cultures. Prof. Gao is a great professor who didn't only teach but encouraged us to think, examine, and analyze historical events. I truly enjoyed her class.
The power points were clear and informal/ Professor Gao clearly knew about the history of Modern East Asia
Her power points were well made and informative.
She's a good professor but just assigns a lot of videos to watch which is kind of annoying because they were long
The amount of knowledge I didn't realize our professor would tell us and the amazing discussions she took the time to concentrate on. The discussions were always the best.
The amount of extra hard work and effort that was put in every single lecture and assignment by the Professor was amazing. The lessons were interesting and fun. She was very clear on what she wanted for her students in each assignments and makes a long lecture class a very fun one.
I really enjoyed the films and the different aspect of Asia history is interesting.
Great lectures, extra credit opportunities, and nice professor. Highly recommend!
I like how the professor used multiple ways that students needed to help them learn in individual ways. Great class and great professor!
Professor Gao is very thorough as an instructor, she also cares very deeply for the well-being of her students.
Professor Gao's dedication and passion for the subjects covered were wonderful. The amount of detail and extra information she prepared for us really allowed the class to get a deeper understanding of the information and a broader idea about eastern Asia.
The content of the course were very interesting. I enjoyed coming to class every week.
Her class isn't difficult. You can get a good grade if you come to class and keep up the work. She does offer extra credits which you should grab. Some of the class discussions are interesting and make you think critically.
Prof. Gao makes psychology applicable to real life. The content she teaches helps you understand human behaviors - why people behave the way they do. Highly recommended!
The worst professor I have ever had. Not only does she just read off the powerpoint but she also yells at students for answering incorrectly. The exams were easy but she was a tough grader on the position paper. When I asked why I received the grade I did, she never response to me email. Unprofessional and overall a rude person. Beware.
The materials and videos she put online were super helpful for an online course. Highly recommended!
Prof. Gao organized her online materials by chapter and unit, they are very easy to follow. Fully online courses can be difficult, but her course was so organized that made the course much easier.
It was the best organized online course I have ever taken. Strongly recommended!
Online courses can be tough, but I really like Prof. Gao's online class. The materials are easy to navigate and comprehend. Highly recommended!
If you want to take fully online PSYC 208, take Prof. Gao's. Lessons and assignments are organized by chapter by chapter and are so easy to follow. Highly recommended!
Best fully online course I have ever taken at BCC. I wish she taught more PSYC courses online.
void her class at all costs. Will yell at you for wrong answers or just laugh in your face. Both attendance and participation matters won't pass the class if you cut class or don't participate. Exam and discussion-board heavy class. Exams are timed 50 questions 50 mins. Get ready to work for your grade. Good luck if you take her.
For a fully online course, organization of the materials is super important. Prof. Gao's online class demonstrates that. It is organized in a way that is so easy to follow. I took both PSYC 106 and 208 fully online with her and found both a pleasant experience. Highly recommended!
She is such a nice human being and knows a lot about the subject. I always enjoyed coming to her class and loved the nice environment in it.
Numerous videos, relics, personal stories, and other examples were shown in class to vividly illustrate the course. Professor was open-minded and flexible.
I took this class because I was interested in the subject matter. All of the subjects and points covered were interesting to me. The homework was very easy to understand and complete. Each project assigned taught me something mentally stimulating. I was able to make connections between current interests and material learned in class.
This course teaches how to effectively write a research paper which may help newer students with their future classes.
The films that we watched for homework were mentally stimulating and related to the course.
Professor was very comfortable with the information and knew more than just what was being taught.
The documentaries and films assigned for homework used to illustrate course material learned in the classroom in an engaging way.
I believe that all of the course content and instruction was good during this course.
I love how Professor Gao provided a lot of great videos for us to watch to help us understand the material.
The module section was laid out extremely well. It was easy to understand and access when finding the activities and exams to complete. Everything was already there ahead of time so I could jump ahead and start work which was very helpful.
Overall, this course really taught me a lot and I highly recommend the professor to other students.
Very good professor. Clearly very knowledgable about topic and I learned a lot. her study guides are very helpful. If you have a hearing issue sit in front of class as she is soft spoken. (not a complaint)
Its not a bad class but very lecture heavy. Class participation is necessary and she will call on you if you don't volunteer. Very tough grader and does judge you if your answer is not 100% what she is looking for but overall, shes really not that bad, I would take the class again because she honestly broke things down for us pretty well.
The lectures were interesting and she kept the class entertaining.
It was organized and not stressful.
Super sweet and always helpful. She always wants her students to succeed, would definitely take a class with her again.
I like the ciriculum.
I liked how we had a lot of time for classwork and projects as well as the right tools were given to study effectively.
I thought the concepts were really cool to learn about and allowed me to apply them into my own life.
The study guide was great when you needed to study for the test.
The professor's presentations and lectures were very effective.
The materials such as videos she puts on CANVAS are just wonderful - interesting and helpful for fully online students who go through the course content by themselves. Highly recommended Prof. Gao's online PSYC 106!
What I enjoyed about this class was that the class participated in class discussion. I overall just found the material and topics interesting in general.
Professor Gao really wanted us to benefit from our college courses. Her enthusiasm for the course and student success was great.
Many aspects of the instruction and course content were beyond exceptional such as the continuous well-communication of information and accessibility of the class.
Giving us all the information we needed to learn for this class to help prepare us for the tests.
The study guides were very cut and dry. Made it easy to sift through my notes and study what was truly important for the exams.
I think Professor Gao did amazing with the teaching of this course. She took her time to really explain each topic and used real life situations as examples in order for the class to get a better understanding of the topic.
very bad at best and closer to awful. and it looks like Gao is writing ratings for herself.
Took her for a summer course, she was very rude and nasty
Nice professor! If you look over the study guides you will do fine on the tests. Just make sure you keep up and submit everything required.
I like how she showed videos, because you really got to see how that topic works and how that part of the brain works and why the body does what it does and what it's like for people living with these conditions.
Instructors knowledge of subject matter and extensive syllabus additional learning materials are all impressive. Very inspirational class!
Professor Gao was very upbeat and enthusiastic about class learning. she often gave us extra videos to watch to better understand the material, and prepared us for exams. The material provided for this class was extensive and allowed students to learn more about a topic if they wanted to.
Professor Gao was also very kind, and gave us many opportunities to fully complete all work. it is evident that she enjoys teaching and wants every student to succeed.
The movies chosen were interesting and helped understand the culture and the history in a visualized way.
I really appreciate how detailed and thorough the process for the research paper was. Step by step process that allowed little chunks to be completed at once, as well as easy access to the librarian for this course made the task much less daunting. Prof. Gao and Librarian Ungar taught us how to do research and write college-level papers.
I appreciate how while she was well read and prepared in each subject (including providing many books and films to enjoy if the topic interested us), she was also willing to listen to suggestions from the class.
I enjoyed the interactive content outside of what was being taught in class.
I am particularly impressed by Professor Gao's ability to choose films to assign that are not only topical and educational but also entertaining and a pleasure to watch instead of a chore. These films contribute to class discussions in a meaningful way.
There were many different aspects of Asian history that were taught, and I feel that what I learned in this class stuck with me.
Professor Gao seems to be a good teacher. Her feedback is short and simple but she grades easily. I took this class fully online and it is the easiest class eve taken. Highly recommend fully online.
The modules perfectly coincide with the assigned chapters and assignments. The due dates are fair.
Each unit is well organized and clearly defines what assignments need to be completed. I would absolutely recommend Professor Gao as an outstanding professor.
The Professor provided detailed attachments for each module, providing students with links and examples for completing assignments correctly. It made very easy to go through the course material including assignments. I recommend Prof. Gao if you wish to take a fully online course.
Each unit given under modules was very organized and specific. Very helpful to understand. Also, my professor attached many videos for each unit for a better understanding. Strongly recommend it!
The way Professor organized the material on CANVAS is very easy to follow along with what chapter and when everything was due. That helped me to stay on track, organize my time, and not miss any due dates.
The module section was laid out extremely well. It was easy to understand and access when finding the activities and exams to complete. Everything was already there ahead of time so I could jump ahead and start work which was very helpful. Overall, this course really taught me a lot and I highly recommend the professor to other students.
The videos were great and helped reinforce the readings. I love how Professor Gao provided a lot of great videos for us to watch to help us understand the material.
Prof. Gao demonstrated great knowledge of the subject, gave fun assignments, and provided help when needed. I would absolutely recommend Prof. Gao as an outstanding professor.
Where do I even begin? Such a lovely lady who is very understanding and I would highly recommend her if you have to take psyc 106.
I have taken many college courses, and this is by the worst. I love psychology. This professor made me despise it. There is no way she has this high of a rating. She is absolutely rating herself. BEWARE!! DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE. She is an unfair grader. Completely nitpicks. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE IF YOU LIKE YOUR GPA, SHE WILL RUIN IT.
The problem with this professor is even if you tried your absolute best & followed instructions she will nit pick & just is a tough grader. She isnt understanding when it comes to problems you're facing & grades discussion posts roughly. How can you give someone a 20/30 that worked hard & followed directions. Be more understanding prof Gao.
Prof. Gao was not at all helpful when reaching out to her with questions. She is a tough grader even when you follow the criteria completely. The course was overall easy. Lots of quizzes.
To keep it short - SKIP THIS PROFESSOR! While she is a nice person, she is not good at presenting content, constantly contradicts what the textbook says, and will pick apart your response to any participation even if you are right. It's incredibly disappointing the content is so interesting, but her delivery will make you beyond frustrated.
Took her back in spring 2019. She a nice person dont get me wrong but her lectures were so boring. I honestly wished it was mixed mode but 2020 didnt happen yet her office hours were there but i never went she just seemed awkward when no one wanted to do any thing like answer anything. Test were hard but not alot of hw.
Very hard to understand, judged responses and used a lot of bias opinion. Easy class but she is a strict grader.
Professor Gao is a very strong educator. She is devoted to the subject matter she is teaching, and provides her students with ample opportunities to get an A in her course. I would definitely take a course taught by her again.
I only took a week of this professor's class before I withdrew. Her lectures, terminology, and references are outdated. I didn't see one reference within the last five years. For a high school student, I am sure she seems like more of the same, but for anyone older or who already holds a bachelor's and is on their second degree, I would skip her.
She is rude in emails, looks for any reason to take points off, and contradicts her instructions. Said she would give extra credit in instructions, and when I emailed asking about it, said there was no extra credit. I had to screenshot the instructions and send her proof so she would give me the extra credit. If you can avoid her do so.
Rude in emails, contradicts own instructions. I had to screenshot proof that she offered extra credit for her to give it to me because she claimed she never said it. Assigns a paper you will not be able to find any evidence for. If you can avoid her, do so.
Prof. Gao is a bit hit or miss, but the class itself is pretty straightforward. Lectures can be dry, but she provides clear instructions and detailed materials. For study prep, I found tools like Unstuck AI and the textbook useful - just be sure to stay engaged in class.
Very straightforward and clear class experience. A few online exams, a few discussions and a paper determine your grade. If you read the textbook, you'll have a greater grasp of the material. Tests are simple if you know at least some of the material. Posted a lot of resources to help with the online class.
Shes ok, but the class is easy so to sit through it is worth it. Its kinda like a high school class; shes strict about phones, talks over her time (sometimes) tells you how to take notes, etc. But again the work is easy tho. She just reads from the slides and you just have to participate to get credit. Theres unit tests every unit and discussions.
Definitely a great instructor and teaches the material well. She encourages everyone to read the chapters weekly to better grasp the lecture, but it could potentially be stressful on top of other classes. She also gives useful online resources. However, not fond of her film assignments... didnt feel necessary (with the exception of one documentary)
isn't easy to understand. Very straightforward and everything you need to know will be on CANVAS; difficult to feel respected. Make yourself be comfortable with the situation and awkwardness she throws at you when answering a question. Also, if you are a shy person, you'll need to learn how to project yourself and speak up. Can't hear too well.
Her class was fun. She's very good at soliciting students' thoughts and opinions. I'd take another class with her. I strongly recommend her.
Amazing lectures! She made psychology so interesting. It was the best class I have ever had.
The course content was super easy to navigate. It was organized chapter by chapter including the lecture, videos, and assignments for the chapter. It was excellent for a fully online course. I highly recommend Prof. Gao's PSYC 208 online.
This has been the best fully online I have taken. The course was well-organized, and the recording lectures were interesting. Take her fully online PSYC 208!
I recommend Gao if you took Psych 105 and enjoyed that. She's tough at times, but she can be very funny too, and only a bit of effort is required to pass. The hardest part of the class is the group project towards the end of the semester, that requires some creativity and stepping outside your comfort zone, but with hard work its a great experience
DEFINITELY take her ONLINE courses. Super easy, only a few tests, 1 easy assignment and a couple of discussions and that's your whole grade. Not super helpful if you're confused, at least online, but googling the answers for your study guides or using the book is easy enough. As long as you study the study guide that she has you fill in, its easy.
Tons of points be redacted from your grade if you're simply late, this professor is downright rude. I was opening her slides and she comes up behind me to slam my computer down. She will also try to make you second guess yourself and condescend you if you dare to participate. Rude and harsh grader. If you respect yourself, don't take her class.
She was alright. Def hard to understand her sometimes due to English not being her first language and she does grade very rough but if you put in effort you will get a good grade. There was 4 exams, 2 discussion posts and 2 projects with one you had to work with a partner.
Highly recommend taking her online class. By far the easiest class I have ever taken. The work is minimal and doesn't post many assignments so I suggest just submitting on time and following the instructions for those few assignments as there's not much to grade on. Her tests are super easier; no lockdown browser:)
thought grader, she won't let you revise your work even if you submit it enough time ahead which I think its crucial in online classes. uses lockdown browser fyi.
Text book not required, gives you study guides, videos and PowerPoints to review. Lots of reading. Tough grader and MAKE sure your on time when handing in assignments. Uses lockdown browser for tests.
Class itself is easy, drags the lectures a lot, first 2 tests in person last 2 lock down browser webcam at home, this class was not awful at all, she is a little rude, sometimes gets confused with what she is saying
The class started out interesting, but constantly reviewing slideshows became boring. I wish we had used more engaging learning methods. I also bought the required textbook (which was around $90-$100) but we never used it. Lastly, communication was difficult since emails and Canvas messages were never answered.
Currently taking her 11-week course, and honestly, everything is pretty straightforward. There are 4 easy discussion posts and 3 exams, which are sort of easy. You just mainly need to study on your own time, and you will pass the class.
Chose this professor due to the high ratings, and honestly, I'm shocked. She's a VERY tough grader. Even if you followed the instructions for an assignment, she'll find a reason to deduct points from your grade. She also never responds to emails. Don't take her, especially if you need accommodations.
Great professor in teaching til' it's homework. Don't read, you wont succeed! Had an issue with an assignment when she gave me feedback to redo them. After I rewriting them, she told me it was still wrong so I asked her for more clarification but she didn't give straight answers. Instead she told me I needed to look at her announcements.
At first i liked Professor Gao,she gives good lectures but horrible feedback. She told my entire class she hated our presentation projects and is a tough grader, even when you follow ALL the instructions she will still find something to criticize. Overall good at teaching but she's disrespectful to her students, strict and a picky grader..
Good professor but very annoying and has attitude
NO NO NO!! MEAN
She is very very rude to students .
