she grades her papers hard, and doesnt make the topics very clear
She is a good teacher if you know how to write. She does grade really hard tho.
Nice lady but assigns papers w/ unclear topics. Harsh grader!
daisy is the best! she is sooo sweet you'll love her:)
I love Daisy! She does grade papers on a tough scale but she's still great!
Has no leniency on her grading scale and is the least open-minded person I have ever met. AVIOD this class!
such a boring class, she is very unhelpful and an extremely hard grader. do NOT take her class!
don't take her class!!! she is very unhelpful and unclear...your grade is 80% from 4 essays you write and class participation, homework and attendence counts as 20%
FLEE WHILE YOU STILL CAN! I started this class loving to write and Daisy has made me a failure! If you got A's in high school, you WILL get C's in this class! She is a HORRIBLE grader and her assignments are often unclear! BEWARE of this woman!
Daisy is a really tough grader. I worked on a paper for over 20 hours and got a C on it. I found though that she likes the Writing Center so I went there and got an A+ and an A on the next two papers. Don't take her if you don't like to work hard.
Daisy is the most helpful and considerate professor I've had so far. She really cares about her students! she can be a tough grader, but if you go to the writing center and work hard on your papers you'll be fine.
very tough grader and leaves topics too broad, but she is a nice lady and willing to help. don't take her if you are looking for a class to boost your GPA.
Daisy is so nice and a lot of fun! I just love her. If you didn't do well in her class you were just lazy. She does have high expectations of you, but she wants you to do well.
Daisy is a tough grader, and expects a lot of her students, but her class is worth it!! Take advantage of the writing center if you don't like to write, and you should do fine in the class.
Daisy is a great teacher who knows alot about writing. Her class is challenging so if you are looking for an easy A, you better not take her course. The class really helped me understand writing and she is super sweet to help with assignments.
Daisy rocks! She loves when you are creative, but does grade pretty hard. My favorite class of my freshman year, I actually enjoyed going. Not easy A but well worth it.
If you have a ton of free time and can handle hours of useless work take this class. She grades amazingly hard and her grading policy is one of the worst I've seen. If you have to, wait another semester to take this class.
Daisy is a horrible professor. Class consists of taking a quiz to start things off right, then she makes us talk with each other about nothing, maybe gives us some busy work. The only thing kinda cool about this class is she always cancels! ITS SO HARD! AVOID THIS CLASS!
Well. What else can I say but she has to be the hardest grader I've ever met. But the thing is that all that criticism can go a long way if you take it all with stride. Her class is fun, just really hard grader.
Daisy is a wonderful person and fair prof. I wish all there kids would stop complaining, after all we're in college!! I've gotten to know some really great people, learned stuff about myself as a writer and person, and it was a good into. to college research and using the library.
If you want an A or even a B, don't take this class. You will work hard on a paper, and get a bad grade back. If you want an easier class, go with another teacher. Otherwise sign up with an easier teacher. She is nice, and tries her best to help, but only take her if you're a star writer.

Daisy is a very nice teacher and really interacts with her students. It's definately a class you can get a B in. She's not one of those teachers who just gives you a grade, she writes tons of comments both + and - to help you out next time! Definately a class to take!
i LOVE Daisy. she is a teacher that really lets u be u in ur writing- u can literally write about ANYTHING. really encouraging, she truely wants u to succeed and become a better writer- tough grader, but if u try a B is VERY possible. class gets out early a lot and we had about 10 classes cancelled!
She intimidated me at first but she is so nice and sooo helpful. She only gives homework the first few weeks...she cancels class ALL the time...take her
wow, what a prof!!!! so nice, really really cares about her students, so much so that she only expects the best but trust me YOU CAN DO IT
hard, don't recommend, made a skit about her at the end and she didn't even know it was about her...wish i never took her...random assignments
I absolutely loved having Daisy. Her class is hard, but just stick in there... DON'T DROP OUT! In the end, you realize all the readngs are worthwhile. Daisy is really helpful and a lot of fun. Classes cancelled every once in a while, and we played Taboo :)
Have someone write "Bite Me" on their thumb and then give you the thumbs up every night as you're going to sleep. That's what it's like.
SO hard, do not take this class unless you are willing to work your ass off. she says grades dont matter and she means it (if they matter to you DONT take this class). She gives tons of work that take you hours to do and then you realize its only worth 5 percent of your grade.
Diasy will help you with anything, and if you're willing to work hard then take the class. Dont be lazy, and you'll do fine. Dont take the other reviews too seriously. Just do the work. She's very helpful.
Daisy is such an awful professor and person. I had a death in the family (my aunt) whom I was very close with. I asked Daisy for a paper extension and she gave me a big fat imphatic NO!! She is cold hearted and could care less about her students or their grades. You will work ridiculously hard in this class and your grades won't show it.
To be honest she does care about her students, but let me tell you a story she told in my class. She said that Nancy from the writing center had to have another talk with her because she made a student cry. She is so hard so people cry. if you are willing to work extremly hard then take this class, but only if you want to work really really hard.
She cancels classes but b/c she knows that u need that time to use to recover from some of the sleep u lost while working on her papers. Not recommended if you are a bad writer. She's very caring but doesn't explain things very clearly and that's part of why ur hard work is for nothing. If u get her, know what NARROW means. NARROW=life or death
Daisy is a huge pain and is increadibly unfair. she accused me of cheating on a paper because i wrote on the same subject as someone else. she is completely **** and favors girls to the max. AVOID DAISY AT ALL COST
Great teacher.
Hard but fair, very helpful
she makes you work hard but you learn to write better
Even from the 1st day of this class jumping off the bridge over 81 sounded better. The 1st day of class she tells u grades don't matter and that u will work ur ass off for a C. If grades matter to u, which they do for most people stay away from her. My number 1 advice for freshman is dont take Daisy. u will become a better writer but still get a C.
When she tells you on the first say that you should expect no greater than a C in her class and that you should prepare your parents for bad grades; i should have realized that something was up. She is an extremely unfair grader. She gives pop quizzes that even if you read you will do poorly on them. Its up to you but other teachers are much easier
Worst teacher I have ever had... everrrr. She is such a ****, not helpful at all, and you will be lucky to get a on a paper... or in the class. Don't take her... seriously.
The first day of class she tells you it will be hard (and you will need to work for a C) but that you should stick it out... don't do it. Get out of the class. You will need to work unnecessarily hard for a gened to get a good grade. Papers are ridiculous. If you only want to take GWRIT once get another class.
Best teacher. If you want to learn how to write take her..she's tough but if you put forth the effort you will get the grade you want! The writing center will be a big help too. If you want an easy class don't take her..in this class you earn your grade!
Like previous posts said, you earn your grade in this class. If you work hard it will pay off. If a teacher told you in high school you were a good writer, they were lying to you. Daisy is very helpful, her goal is to make you a better writer, but you are going to get there. Do all the homeworks and readings, it helps with papers.
really easy class, take it today!
Fairly hard class, but she will help you if you ask her! She basically came up with one of my paper topics when I was having trouble. Hard work, but you will learn SO MUCH
To do decent in her class, you need to leave your post-K12 ego behind and get ready to stumble. She's a definitely a difficult grader, and she'll be very honest with you from the beginning that she doesn't just give away As and Bs. But if you are willing to do the work, you'll learn so much and become a better writer. Take her. She's amazing
Daisy knows her**** and she's there to help anyone who reaches out to her and asks for help. If you genuinely want to become a better writer and you care about more than just boosting your GPA, take this class. If you don't, grow up, accept some responsibility, and take this class anyway. You'll work your ass off, but it'll be worth it in the end.
Seriously- don't be scared by all the rumors, it's not that bad. If you work ahead, meet with Daisy, the Writing Center, and do A LOT of planning you'll be fine. Do the homework and know that whenever there is NO homework, there WILL be a quiz on the readings so READ. Tedious class and hard teacher, but if you're up for a challenge take this class.
awesome teacher if you have the right attitude and are willing to absorb all she has to offer. if you enjoy writing def. TAKE HER because she lets you be creative and your writing will really improve. it's one of those hate it or love it classes, and i loved it even though i am usually a lazy student.
Very nice, but expectations are very high. A very tough grader. Almost impossible to get an A.
Overly difficult for Gen Ed. Try to get a different teacher if you can, some GWRIT classes seem like alot of fun, but not this one. She is however very nice and helpful, just HARD!
Very Nice Lady, but not the teacher you want for GWRIT. Expectations are near impossible to fufill. HARDEST grader I've ever had. If you happen to take her USE the Writing Resource Center!
The nicest professor possible. She is always willing to help and is very laid back and cool about everything. She cancels class alot throughout the semester (like 10 days). You will learn alot and work hard but become a much better writer, You should take her!
wonderful woman, extremely helpful and caring. expect to work, and when you get an A that you deserve it will feel better than ANYTHING because she makes you truly proud of your accomplishments since expectations are high. worthwhile. and of course you'll have to work - this is college.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE. she is very hard grader. gives way to much work and expects way to much out of you for a gen ed class. if you are looking to give a lot of time to this class you can take it. she is not understanding with grades and doesn't work with you on your grades, but she seems to be helpful if you go in to see her
try to switch out if this class if you get the chance. she is not the teacher you want for gwrit. way too tough on grading when all you're taking the class for is to get through gen eds. way too much work that is a waste of time. she is way too hard and not understanding or caring!!
she is a very though grader. she also picks favorites like this red-headed girl in my class that sucks up way too much. she does cancel class a lot which is good, but when you do have class its pointless. basically the class is "go write a paper and turn it in to her". hard grader, but not impossible if she likes you you'll get a good grade.
SWITCH OUT...QUICK. This class requires WAY to much of your time! So many other teachers will let you put bs on notebook paper and get an A...not daisy...don't expect anything above a C...shes nice and all and will help but it is definitely not worth all the time you put in to it! Final Project is RIDICULOUS.(and all gwrit prof. cancell class a lot)
Daisy was my hardest professor this semester, and I will probably get a C in her class because of her IMPOSSIBLE REQUIREMENTS, but overall I did learn a lot in her class. She cares a lot about her students and will help you whenever you need it and she cancels class SOO much. If you want to learn how to write take her, if not switch out immediately
she's an excellent teacher, and if you want to learn how to write well take her....but with that said, she's a very VERY hard grader. def bring your gpa down...a lot. other gwrit teachers will let you bs through class, not this one. tons of work...too much work. sweet lady though, and very nice, just freakin hard
Great Teacher!
Hard grader, but you'll learn a lot
Yes, hard grader, but VERY, VERY willing to help you in any way she can. If you want to learn and grow, this is the professor to do it with. Others might give you less work, but is doing less the best way to go...we are not in HS anymore, it is time to step it up...
Daisy is a great prof. She tries to scare you up front, but if you work hard, use writing center, and can write a bit you will get a B. She is helpful and truly cares about students. If you dont want to work, dont take the class, you will fail. I am not a great writer, though, and I got an A- so it is not as impossible as some people make it sound.
Teacher is really nice lady. Grading can be picky but she helps with that too. The whole Peer Consultation sheets are what bothered me. I liked the class though.
Hard grader, but I know my writing improved A LOT. She's extemely nice and will go out of her way to help you. If you work hard and go to her paper consulations, you can get a B. Don't expect to be getting As on your papers, at least to start with. 4 papers, mutliple small quizes from the readings. If you want to learn and improve, pick her.
I dont know where to begin it all happened so fast. Ive been in this class for 3 weeks. We've had 5 quizzes read over 400 pages and had two essays due one of which was due the second day of She is a nice lady in the classroom but lets be realistic shes out there to get everyone back for something that got her. GET OUt while you can.Continued..
HARD HARD CLASS, but my writing improved. Get out if you can.4 papers, a lot of quizzes and some projects. Good luck leaving with a C-. I worked so hard on my papers and they were NEVER good enough for her, i went to the writing center several times and peer consultations. Shes a great teacher and very helpful, but you wont leave with a good grade
Very hard class, but my writing improved immensely. Daisy is really nice and helpful even though she's definitely an extremely hard grader. She doesn't give anything above a 95 on essays. If your goal is to improve your writing skills, take her.
Class is extremely hard, time consuming, and getting an A is practically impossible, that being said I learned more about my own writing and how to improve i then all 4 years of high school. Class is fun and she cancels it a lot so you can write your papers. Take her if you are up to the challenge
If you want to work really hard and get a C then by all means take this class. She is a nice lady but GRADES WAY TOO HARD. This is a general education class and she grades like we are in grad school. Would not take this class if if you care about grades. She says grades dont matter but in reality they do.
This class was extremely challenging and took a ton of time but the professor is extremely helpful. If you go to the office hours offered during the sem. you will do well with this professor. Class is cancelled alot and clswk is really easy. The readings are basically all common sense so it's not that bad at all. A good professor overall.
Daisy is a really good teacher. Her class is really hard though. You have to write 4 papers, which count as 80% of your grade. She is very helpful. Her class is very challenging and it was much harder than I thought it would be. If you are a good writer, I would take this class. If you have trouble writing, this is not a class for you.
She is a terrible teacher. She doesn't help you with improving your work. Classroom sessions are wasted talking about unrelated things. She has a ridiculously hard grading scale. Her feed back is useless and often flat out wrong. Avoid her at all costs if you want anything above a C
Terrible teacher. All these people before are telling you the truth. He picks and chooses who she likes within the first few weeks of class. She is extremely biased in what she sees wrong in your writing. Very useless teacher who will only cause you more stress. DONT TAKE!!!!!!!1111
First off let me start by saying DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER. I read the reviews of her on this site and thought that people were probably overreacting. They are not. She is a extremely harsh grader. She does not teach anything useful doing class time. She has lots of annoying guidelines for her paper. You will hate her class and will not learn
DO NOT TAKE!!!! this was one of the hardest classes that I have taken, not because of the subject, but the extremely harsh grading. She picks favorites and makes it completely obvious throughout the semester. She's a nice person, but takes her gen ed class way too seriously. Stay Away!
Worst teacher I have ever had. She blows alot of questions on your topic unless it is suporting her personal opinion. She is extremely hard head, very self oriented, and shoves her thoughts about gay rights and discrimination down your throat. STAY AWAY FROM DAISY BRENEMAN. She is a useless advisor and DESTROYS papers with her grades.
The people below me are right. Daisy is really hard. But at the same time I really appreciate what she's done to make me a better writer. She's so helpful if you just go see her. Some advice about picking a topic...pick something that you're PASSIONATE about or else it really shows in your paper (believe me she notices).
All of these people are overreacting. A lot of people in my class have never written papers before and expect to do well with little to no effort. Its definitely possible to get A's on the papers more than once. I improved by going to the writing center as well as receiving feedback from meeting with her.
she is a nice lady..but she tells you that your paper is good and then grades you hard. She is pretty much impossible to get a good grade in her class. I have never gotten such a low grade until i look her class. sadly i would not reccomend her
This class was quite challenging, however, I feel that my writing has greatly improved because of it! I do feel that the grading is harsh but she is more than willing to help and go over any questions you have. Daisy is kind of crazy but it can be entertaining. This class will improve your writing but its nearly impossible to get above a C.
Daisy is a good teacher, just really hard for a gen ed. wouldn't suggest taking her if you're planning on getting an easy A in gwrit.
Daisy is a good teacher and is all about helping you improve your writing and there are some great class discussions. But I think this class is def. too much work for a gened level...it requires a HUGE amount of outside work, esp. if you want to get a decent grade.
Daisy is a really caring person, but her grading is really really harsh. I saw her three times before turning in a paper and went to the writing center and still got a B on it. Lots of reading at the beginning, and 4, 4-5 pg. papers. Really really hard grader. I'm struggling for a C right now. Papers are 20% of final grade.
I hate this class! Yes, Daisy is very nice person or so it seems, but be aware of her grading!! Its the worst ever! I've never taken a class this awful! Avoid it as much as possible!
Daisy is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. Even though she is a tough grader, by looking at the comments on past papers it is easy to improve your grade on the next one. There are four papers and my grade steadily increased with each one. My writing skills improved greatly. Daisy is a great teacher and her class is challenging but fun.
Daisy is a very nice professor. As a person I like her a lot. She is very helpful, especially in the private conferences for each paper. That being said, she is a very difficult grader. I have always considered myself a good writer, and I am lucky to pull a Bin the class.
Daisy is a hard grader, but she challenges you. Each time I write a paper, my writing gets better, as does my grade. She wants the class to count and most days are class discussion. She also brings in relevant outside material to help connect the topic with you. On the papers, you have multiple topics to choose from. I love her! Take the class!
Daisy is a really sweet woman. She is more than willing to help write papers and clear with instructions (even though some of them are a little strict). The grading IS difficult, but you'll learn a lot from the class. And don't be afraid to email her/go to office hours, she's INCREDIBLY helpful with papers.
Very harsh grader takes points off for unheard of things. Stay away from this professor's class. She tries to help students, but I found her help to be of no service.
Stay Away!!!!! It is for your own good
I love Daisy. She is sweet and genuinely cares about each and every single one of her students. She is willing to work with you every step of the way to make sure you feel 100% comfortable. TAKE THIS CLASS! Daisy will challenge you but in a great way. Grading is tough at first, but all you have to do is listen to her suggestions and youll be fin
She seems really nice at first but after taking her class im not so sure. She's a really hard grader if you want a good grade dont take. She treats her GWRIT class like its a major class and its not.
Daisy (yes she will want you to call her by her first name) is a really difficult but great teacher. I loved the class and the amount of creativity that she wanted us to use in our papers and projects. Really hard grader but you learn how to become a much better writer because of it. Take this class if you have time and like to read and write.
I LOVE DAISY!! She is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had. She cares sooooo much about you and she is just really really funny and interesting. Hard grader, but wants you to get better and will do what she can to help.
She is a really nice teacher and cares for your improvement. She is a really hard grader. Reading required about 50 pages, and a quiz after reading, but notes were allowed to be used. If you want an easy A don't take this class.
I had Daisy last year and I still think about the class. It was very challenging for me, but my writing improved greatly. She really pushes you to do better. Always wants to help her students. Hard grader but it makes you want to work harder to do better. Not as easy as other gwrit teachers (As I've heard)... but take her! You will learn a lot.
This class is extremely difficult. She grades very hard and theres a lot of reading. Dont recommend!!!
Daisy is one of the coolest teachers I've had this semester. I hated writing but after her methods I enjoy it more. She tries not to set up too many limitations on essay assignments and is flexible with most topics as long as you talk to her first. She is however a very hard grader. Oh and I also bumped into her at a Metallica concert! Recommended.
She is an amazing teacher!! So nice and so willing to help, she tries to make sure that the course material is interesting and I connected so much with this course. Your writing really improves after having her! (a lot of papers though)
I loved Daisy! She's not going to just hand out A's for mediocre papers, you actually have to work for an A. Because of this, when you actually get an A on a paper, it feels amazing! I can honestly say she is my favorite teacher I've ever had in my entire life.
Daisy is my favorite professor. She is extremely approachable, open-minded, and helpful. Always go to her office hours if you have a problem! She's happy to extend her time to when you can meet her, and she'll spend as much time as you need going over things with you. Her assignments are hard, but they make you think! Definitely taking her again!
Absolute worst teacher I've ever had. I mean, worse than a elementary teacher. Claims to be helpful, than subsequently gives you a D on the paper. I would rather be taught by a mime.
Daisy is a pretty good teacher. You can tell that she loves it when you do good work. Definetly isn't an easy paper grader so if your not tryin to work hard on your papers it probably isn't a good class for you. Definetly motivates you to try harder. One thing is she is VERY VERY unclear on her directions for assignments, queen of vagueness
Daisy is one of the best professors I have ever had. I took her my freshman year and I still got an A on every paper I wrote. As long as you read the books she assigns (which are not bad and I NEVER read assigned books) you will be fineee! People that say she is awful and hard obviously have no work ethic because an A is def not difficult to get.
Daisy is probably the worst teacher at JMU. I took her fall semester and I got a D in the class. She doesn't grade fair at all but picks and chooses her favorites in the class. Did everything she asked. Dont take her tust me
She plays MAJOR favorites in the class. It is very clear who she likes and who she dislikes. She does not give out A's easily whatsoever, and expect to spend countless hours in the writing center (which she suggests ALL the time) and pull out with maybe a B. She rips your papers apart and expects you to be an A-list author. Avoid if possible.
Daisy was the best professor I've had a JMU. While the work load may be intimidating, the class is definitely worth taking. She pushes you to step out of your comfort zone and creates a wonderful class environment. This class makes you learn about yourself and the works. It's great, so I recommend taking Daisy over everyone else!
Daisy is amazing- absolutely wonderful professor who really wants her students to learn. Yeah, you probably won't get an A no matter how hard you work, but how much you will REALLY learn is worth it. You get out of it what you put into it, and if you can afford a B, just take her. You won't regret it for sure.
I went to the writing center several times and the professors that I worked with had told me my paper only need a few tweaks. She refused to give me a B and gave me a 79 on each paper. If you struggle a little bit with english don't take her, it's not easy for non-english majors.
Daisy's a really helpful teacher but her grading is absurd. I wouldnt suggest taking her unless your extremely confident in your writing ability. For me, taking this first semester of freshman year was awful, i put in countless hours of work into my papers, I used the writing center, her office hours, drafted like it was my job, and got a C+
i'm a writing major and found this class to be a little bit absurd. deff picks favorites and grading is really weird. i have a feeling she's secretly a hippie, but she's a very nice person and her daughter is extremely cute (in elementary school). meet with her often and it will help you're writing a lot. recommend if ur willing to put in effort.
Daisy is great! She makes class interesting and her assignments really help boost your grade. Take her if you can, shes great!
Not an easy class but Daisy is so nice and wants everyone to do well! The papers take a lot of effort but she'll give you the grade you deserve. She makes class discussions really interesting, I wouldn't want to skip class. It's helpful to talk to her if you're having trouble with assignments. Want to take another class with her!
She is an absolutely ridiculous grader. Quizzes on reading ask absurd questions. Does not teach, only facilitates discussion. She is a nice person however, but if you aren't into literature or LGBT stuff then DO NOT TAKE!
This class was a complete waste of time and destroyed my GPA. She plays favorites and her grading is absolutely ridiculous. Do not take this class! Daisy honestly reminds me of a wet gremlin. She is awful.
Favorite class of freshman year! Daisy is nice and helpful with papers, and she loves creativity! The class does cover some dark/ignored topics though considering it is about alienation! The work load is rather tough you MUST be good with writing papers to survive here! 5 Essays, 2 presentations, quizzes, and daily work make up the grade! TAKE HER!
I just LOVEDlovedloved Daisy. I thought this class was going to be a complete waste of time but I ended up loving it. By far best teacher I've had at JMU and most enjoyable class. Clear guidelines on papers and fair grader. Most helpful teacher ever. Take Daisy if you can!
Daisy is extremely nice and helpful but her papers are extremely hard. If you go to her office hours and seek help it will make a huge impact on your grade. I managed to go from getting C's on all my papers to A's. This class is by no means easy, I bombed the midterm but managed to pull off a B with extra credit and daily work points.
This is not an easy gen ed. Daisy is an awesome person, but a really tough grader. You will have to put in a lot of effort to get a good grade.
If she likes you, you pass, if she doesn't you fail. If you're a guy, she won't like you. It's possible to pass, but you had to have had something bad happen to you in your life to write about.
Daisy's expectaions are not easy to gauge whatsoever. She treats us like babies during class but then grades papers like we have a Ph. D in writing. Interesting class for sure, alot of class participation, but this is not an easy gen ed.
Daisy's class is not easy at all, but she is a great professor so that makes things better. She is really sweet and helpful inside and outside of class. She really wants you to do well and is extremely approachable if you need any kind of help. If you're willing to work your butt off I say take her!
The reason she grades you so hard is because writing is one of the most important skills you can have and many people still don't know how to do it. Go to her office and seek her help and she is AMAZING. She keeps the material interesting and she organizes her class so that you can actually think about and understand the material. Take her.
The class was extremely hard. She's an impossible grader and doesnt take into consideration that some people arent strong writers. She assigns a ton of assignments and seems to forget that the class is a gen-ed... not a major class. although she's really sweet it wont help you when you try to talk to her about her style of grading. impossible class
Daisy is one of the hardest graders ever... If you don't want your GPA destroyed by a simple GenEd don't take her class! Also, if you don't have some terrible tragedy to write about, she'll shoot down most of your topic ideas. Oh and she wastes all your printer paper and ink by making you print out ridiculously long article to annotate every class
Her grading may have been a little tough, but personally, I think it reflected how much work/effort you actually put into the class. I think she's a great teacher; I learned quite a lot about myself and my writing style. I definitely recommend her!
Despite her tough grading criteria, and a lot of reading, this class was the best class I have ever taken. NOT and easy Gen ed by any means, but you will learn a LOT about yourself and others as well if you put in the time in effort. This class is not a joke so be ready to work. But it is rewarding in the end.
She's probably one of the hardest grading professors. I got bad grades on my papers and went to the writing center for help. You dont need a text book but you print A LOT so its almost more expensive than buying a book. Definitely avoid this class if possible.
Daisy is an extremely hard grader, she definitely doesn't just give A's away for free. The class is boring at times but overall I learned so much. Don't take if you want an A but aren't willing to actually do the work. I evolved as a writer in this class. You use a lot of paper, way too much!
Daisy is a hard grader, but she wants you to do well. If you aren't a strong writer, (I'm not) you will have to rethink how to write papers. She is super helpful. Readings are due every class that you must print and annotate. Sometimes she collects them, other times she doesn't. Don't expect to half-ass an essay and get a good grade.
Do not take this class!! There are no unexcused absences, even with a doctors note. If your logic contains ideals broader than love and peace, and you don't want to write a paper for PETA, don't take the class. She seems sweet, but she honestly does not care about students.
Daisy is so sweet. She really cares about her students. I honestly didn't think she was that hard of a grader. She canceled class almost every Friday, which was GREAT
Daisy is a really great professor. She isn't easy, you actually have to work for your grade, but she is extremely helpful. She also cares for her students and wants you to do well. If you take this class, definitely make the effort to go see her. She is very approachable and loves when you come see her for help. Take the class!
she thinks assigning papers and readings is teaching. didnt learn a thing in her class. real hard grader.i have 3 projects due in the last three weeks when we had 2 the whole beginning of the semester. my other grades are suffering from her. weve had 3 classes in the last month as well. Avoid at all costs unless you like bad grades
Daisy is quite a hard grader. She does want you to learn but we didn't really show up to class; its online half of the time. So far, we have had two essays this semester, and 3 other projects near the end of course. A lot of work but I guess I can say that I learned something. She is alright but probably not the best.
Daisy is very nice, but her class is very difficult. She is a very very strict grader and she gives tons of work you have to print and annotate. Do not take any of her Classes!!!!!
Daisy grades so hard! She considers giving out a c a good grade! Do not under any circumstances take this class
Daisy is really sweet but she definitley NOT AN EASY A. The good part is it partially online so my class didn't have to meet on fridays. A LOT of homework. Really tough grader. Don't take her unless you have to. Although I'm doing fine in her class I wish I didn't have to work so hard for a GenEd.
Daisy is a pleasant person and the class is interesting, but this is hands down the most work I've done for any course of my college career. A lot of papers, kind of abstract prompts which makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly what she's looking for.
Daisy is the nicest lady every! Very god professor, always willing to help. She does expect a lot from students and grades kind of hard.
Daisy is a great professor! This class is a lot of work for a gen ed and requires a lot of reading. Daisy cares about her students and is always willing to help.
The work is definitely not easy and she is a hard grader. She is helpful and gives multiple extra credit opportunities to pull up your grade. You must read, print and annotate all handouts. Class was half way online. Didn't meet on Fridays. You will learn a lot about the writing process and improve your writing as well.
Daisy is a HORRIBLE teacher and grader!! She doesn't explain what she wants out of her essays, and grades completely unfairly on personal essays. She expects everyone to understand what she wants out of her essays but they are TOO open-ended. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Don't take her she is the hardest teacher ever. She isn't helpful at all avoid her.
She's a great professor so sweet if you go to her! Exams can be hard but can be done
She's all about changing the rules of writing and letting you write freely without worrying about sounding too professional, and I think it made me a worse writer when I had to write real essays for my actual classes. She's super unclear with what she wants and even though she's nice, that really doesn't make up for it. Avoid her.
She is an incredible professor very invested in her students success and learning. If you need help she is very available. She is a hard grader but grades according to how she thinks you personally can do. She listens to students and makes class time interesting and interactive.
Daisy Breneman means well but if you don't write the way she wants to you write, you might as well ask for an F. She wants you to dig deep, find yourself, and struggle with your morality for a grade. There are 5 major books that all deal with suicide, depression, and homosexuality. So get ready to be uncomfortable and struggle through a tough class
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Hardest grader I've ever had. Essays are completely open-ended and confusing. Criticizes everything if it's not exactly how she wants it. Grading is very unclear.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Hardest grader and takes off an insane amount of points if you don't write exactly what she wants for her vague prompts. 20 hrs community service required on top of the books you have to speed through for her extremely specific quizzes. Uncomfortable readings bc books focus on depression, sexuality, or disabilities.
Daisy gives great readings, but the grading is absolutely ridiculous. There is no real way of being able to tell how she wants things done. Would not recommend her at all.
I took Daisy for two classes during my time at James Madison and she is by far one the most inspirational, hard-working, kind, open-minded, and caring professor I have ever had. Coming from someone who has graduated and moved on to the work force, I can tell you that the lessons you learn in Daisy's class go far beyond how to write a paper.
She is unreasonable about her policies in this class, this class was blended and lots of the course was unclear in what was expected of you.
This was a blended learning class, so sometimes we wee in the classroom, but it was mostly online lectures and materials. The course is hard itself, so it is difficult to tell if she was a tough professor or if the class is just really hard. She is very sweet, and very helpful if you go to her office hours, so utilize them if you're confused.
Took JUST 365 with Plass and Breneman and it was the biggest mistake I've ever made. Grading criteria is so unclear. They expect way too much work - 3 books, many discussions, many readings, huge final project. NOT WORTH IT. Breneman is very nice though but seems unorganized and not a good teacher.
I took this online class over the summer. She said she expects us to study 6 hours a day which is impossible and ridiculous since i have a full time job. Myself and my friends have failed each test. She has such ridiculous standards for timed tests and TOO MANY questions. I do not recommend this class at ALL. save yourself. it ruined my summer.
Ok honestly yes this class was absurdly hard. I took it over the summer and literally had to quit my job and get a less demanding one to even have a chance at doing well. The exams are crazy difficult and there is so much info packed into a small period of time but if you reach out to Daisy she is really nice & helpful- she helped me and I did fine
This class was ridiculous. Three essay tests, each had to be completed in 24 hrs. I did fine, but my friend failed every test & has no clue why. Content difficulty/workload is ok, but this is definitely a weed-out class for the major. About 5 kids fail every summer, so stay on top of it - Dr. Breneman is super sweet, it's just a REALLY hard class!
Hardest grader I HAVE EVER HAD. She cares about you and wants you to pass, but the way she grades your tests would have you think otherwise. Some participation grades are sprinkled in, like reflections fro guest speakers, but the bulk of your grade comes from three essay tests that are graded way too hard. Read the PPTs and elaborate on everything.
As long as you stay on top of assignments this is easy. However if you miss any assignments you have to email her and make sure she clears you to continue the class. Just set alarms or something to make sure you do the weekly assignments and you'll be fine. I personally didn't get a ton out of the class but it depends on your level of participation
While she shows interest and concern in her students lives and wellbeing, she is very unorganized and lacks the necessary communication skills to convey the criteria for assignments. This class is more work than it is worth. The topics are interesting, but the professor makes it so much harder than it needs to be.
If she's your advisor, switch. I heard from her MAYBE twice throughout 4 years. During enrollment (every time) she was coincidentally "out of office," and would not be answering questions about enrollment until after it was over. She was no help when discussing Winter or Summer sessions, and no help whatsoever as a teacher or advisor.
She's a very nice lady who means well, every conversation I have had with her she has never once been snippy or rude but by god does she grade so difficult. She grades everything so harshly and if none of her directions ever make sense.
