With professor Tomco you will most likely teach yourself. She is very sweet but she lectures too fast and does not spend too much time on a concept. Grading consists of 4 exams, 1 final, owl hw and lab grade. She curved 3 of our exams and the final was cumulative but easier than all the exams we took. Gives extra credit for coming to class.
Attendance is not mandatory since there are no clicker points. The book is required but I never needed to use it. Class is heavily based on your exams so do well on them. She includes a lot of conceptual multiple choice questions and calculations on the exam. She posts practice problems to study for exam which are similar to the actual exam.
She was okay. The exams are based on the practice problems, however, asking questions was something she didn't enjoy. I ended up going to the tutoring center since they were better at helping me understand the subject, along with reading the textbook. The labs weren't helpful at all and the OWL homework is a waste of time and confusing.
Unsure why her rating is so low! She is thorough in explaining examples. She gives lots of extra credit for attending the discussions. She gives review that is just like the exam. She does make wording kinda confusing on exams so you just have to read carefully. She really wants the class to pass! HW is super helpful and counts for alot of points.
Her rating should be a lot higher than it is. Shes everything a professor should and more. Always goes above and beyond for students and prioritizes their success more than anything. Has review days before exams. Discussion and lecture attendance is extra credit. Replaces lowest test score with your final exam score. Drops 2 lowest homework scores
Amazing professor. Offers TONS of extra credit! Tries her hardest to make sure the students understand the material and prepares us for Orgo 1. Has reviews before each exam and offers a study guide for each exam that has most of what will be covered on the exam. Attendance in discussion and lecture is extra credit. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!
Shes horrible at teaching. All she does is read slides off which we already have access to. Has an attitude everyday and hates answering questions. Not very helpful, would hate to take a class with her again
Dr. Tomco isn't a horrible professor, but she breezes through material and writes the solutions at the speed of light, making it hard to take notes during class. There's quite a bit of homework, too. The aleks program gets to be very time consuming. Graded on clickers, discussion, tests, and aleks homework. Go to discussion and class for the points
She's an alright professor, shes not the worst lecturer nor the best. The class has a lot of homework on ALEKS which is expensive first of all and secondly really useless bc it doesn't help with tests. She did provide extra credit, the aleks hw do help to boost your grade and clicker points marks attendance.
She understands that we may have never taken chem before & takes things really slow. She WANTS her students to pass & learn for higher chems. She hears our voices & takes criticism well. ALEKS is annoying & theres hw for each chapter but she reduced the amount a lot. Her exams are just like the practice probs. She gives us every resource to do well
Dr. Tomco is a great instructor. She really cares about her students learning the material and is very kind and approachable. As long as you study the slides and do the practice problems you will do well.
She's honestly one of the best professors. She cares so much if you pass it's unbelievable. Will stay longer than her usual officer hours. She takes attendance with I clicker points and at one point she gave all students who were there before break 10 ec points just for being in class.
At first glance Dr. Tomco seems to be friendly and knows the material well. But when I met alone with her she was rather condescending. She would not answer my questions in class, there were only 40 kids in class and I sat up front. 30 pts. EC for going to discussion. Test problems or similar ones are in the book. Give yourself enough study time.
does not respond to emails, barely knows what she's teaching, is not caring, makes you feel stupid. her sweet talk is all an act, have a one on one conversation with her she'll make you feel really dumb.
She knows exactly what she's talking about and is good at teaching the info. If you ACTUALLY put in real time and effort, the class isn't hard, just don't be lazy. The only downside was that once we went online, she didn't really compensate for no more partial credit. Easy and hard exam questions were all worth the same, which made me score lower.
Homework is not overwhelming at all, helpful actually. STUDY! If you do not study you will not pass. She is pretty thorough but can sometimes be a bit confusing during lecture so Youtube concepts you struggle with. Attendance is not mandatory but clicker points are taken during lecture so go.
When I say run, I mean it. This professor is completely unforgiving with her requirements and expectations while also not providing any help. Said you read the book to learn because she wont cover everything in lectures. Has not uploaded a single lecture in 2 weeks and our exam is on 5 chapters. 4 exams and no EC. Generally rude. Email policy's bad
Took her biochem class over the summer online and it was a mess. Didnt have any schedule to her lecture uploads so you had no idea when the next lecture would be released (usually all crammed in the two weeks before an exam). Randomly uploads homework so theyre easy to miss.
I had Tomco for two semesters and having her for online chem was horrible. She never responds to emails and she's one of the worst graders. My grade went down by almost 10% because she refused to give me credit on the online final exam when I know I deserved it. It really made it seem like she didn't want to see her students succeed.
Dr. Tomco is a good professor but her online class was a bit disorganized which led to some confusion. She didn't always answer emails because she had other classes. Study ALEKS homework because it's just like the test. Go to the review sessions. It's an easy class if you put effort into it.
This professor over complicated the way the class was set up resulting in students getting confused in the first exam, The professor merged all sections of the class into one general chemistry canvas and put the exam there, but get this the exam isn't even for our class its for the engineering students doing 1225. The entire class Messed up.
Absolutely amazing professor. She took over my chem class after another professor left us with a lot of work and did not teach us well, and she was great. If you attend lecture and try practice problems you will do well. She is so sweet, 10/10, and she actually cares about her students. One of the best professors I've ever had!
Dr. Tomco is nothing short of amazing. She took over after my former professor left for unknown reasons and has been courteous, lenient and understanding of the difficulties students face from the previous professors "spoils." Her lectures are in depth and easy to understand as long as you take proper notes, listen and participate actively.
Worst chem teacher ever
Dr. Tomco is an excellent professor. She took a class that was rumored to be extremely challenging and completely changed my perception of chemistry. Her lectures and assignments were always clear and she was always willing to work with her students. She also curved every single exam, she's great!
When I tell you that there are not enough good things to say about Dr. Tomco, I mean it. She is THE best professor I have had at WSU. She has curved every exam, given so much extra credit. Dr Tomco genuinely cares about the success of her students and truly does everything she can to help. I can promise there will be more 5 star ratings to follow!
There are truly not enough characters allowed here to describe how wonderful she is. Dr Tomco is THE BEST professor I have had at WSU. She cares more about her students than any other professor. SO much extra credit and curves, and such a good professor overall. If I could take every chem class with her, I would. Definitely take her if you can!!
Honestly, the best professor at Wayne state for chemistry. I would highly recommend her to anyone!!!
I honestly did not think I would appreciate a chem professor as much as I do Prof Tomco. She is really clear about things, always willing to work with students and gives extra credit. Graded by a few things but it is very straightforward and extremely sweet and caring. Would definitely recommend anyone to take chem classes with her.
She gives four exams. She also adds extra credit to every test if you do a practice exam. You must read the book to do well on the multiple choice portion of the tests.
Dr. Tomco is hands down one of the most caring professors at Wayne State. She truly wants to see her students succeed and does everything she can to ensure this. She takes a lot of time to provide extra resources to her students. You will need to put in some work to do well in this class but overall I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tomco to any undergrad.
This teacher is amazing! An average of a 5% curve every exam plus a final curve, plus an overall grade curve?? My grade went from a 80 to a 94!
She is really understanding and hardworking. she add many extra credit points in every exam. Aldo the exams are fair enough. her lectures are very useful. overall she is one of the best teacher at Wayne state who really care about her students.
I had a different professor starting this class of but mid-semester they changed the professor to Tomco. I was scared at first but Tomco was amazing. She truly wants all her students to succeed and offers a lot of extra credit. I highly recommend her.
I like her. I understand her teaching method and I learned CHM rather easy. Her tests are hard. The mult choice are killer and its difficult to finish the whole exam in 50 min. The mult choice come from the book and ppt and the written part is usually things you've seen so its not like they aren't fair.
Used online to her advantage. She broke uni policy by posting her synchronous lectures as extra videos you have to watch if you want to pass. She essentially doubled class time w/o increasing the credits. There's a lot of aleks hw, but you have plenty of time to do it. ALSO she doesn't work around tech fails during exams so watch out.
Dr. Tomco is the best chemistry prof at Wayne! You HAVE TO PUT IN EFFORT! This is not a class you can not study for and still pass- you need to know your stuff! Dr. Tomco lays it all out for you - so you shouldn't be confused on what to study or how to study. If you are confused ask her! We used ALEKS for HW. She's awesome, take her! EC on exams.
I liked her. She is a very sweet and understanding lady who cares a lot about her students. She provides you with many videos and practice exercises to help you pass. If you put in the work you will do just fine. Also, if you talked to her, she was always willing to work something out. Overall, I would choose her over Barber any day.
The bulk of the grades in this class come from exams. There are 4 exams and a final, which is absurd. Not to mention they are really difficult and are done on Lockdown Browser, easily the worst way to take an exam. I'm being a little lenient with the scoring because she curves each exam and drops the lowest score. Still, not a fun class to take.
Don't get me wrong, the teacher is a wonderful women and truly cares for her students. She really knows a lot about chemistry and you should definitely go to her office hours if you enroll in her class. With that said, I still wouldn't take this class again simply because the lectures are very slow and unclear. Grading is hard but if you are smart
The class was difficult due to her increasing the amount of time devoted towards the class with the prerecorded lectures, which were boring and she often made mistakes in them. Exams were hard because she never stops talking during them. Don't bother studying for the final, she will put crap on there you have only seen once or not at all. AVOID!!
All prerecorded lectures. Grades in Canvas inaccurate to actual grade. HW was not helpful for studying. Unbalanced content on exams. Multiple choice is difficult. EC for all exams. Cheat sheet allowed for the final, but it was not helpful because the content was all over the place. Dr. Tomco is very kind, but I didn't like her teaching style.
Terrible, low-context professor that releases grades late that inaccurately reflect your actual grade in the class. Don't be fooled by the other reviews, doesn't curve as much as you would expect her to (even though our entire class was failing). Terrible lectures. Released final grades 24+ hours late. Do not take with her.
I honestly didnt enjoy this class, it may have been because of the online format but it was very difficult for me to learn with her teaching style.
Dr. Tomco cares about her students and overall I feel like I learned a lot from her however her exams and the way the class is set up is very poor. Maybe it's just because it was online but if you get just one multiple choice question wrong your grade is already down so much and the format of the exams made this a difficult class.
Do not take her. She loves her students but the way she teaches is HORRIBLE. I did not learn a single thing she taught and now i have to retake the class. Sadly she is the only professor that teaches this class.
She is so kind and caring, it is so rare to find professors that genuinely care about student success and she is one of them. She will answer any question no matter how long it takes and she really explains things thoroughly. So kind and absolutely no judgment. Do the homework!!!
I have worked so hard in this class. Attended peer mentor sessions, si sessions, office hours, lectures, but her exams are sooooo difficult this semester. She offered extra credits here and there, and that's because most of us were failing. She's nice and all, but she makes gen chem 1 too hard.
She was so nice and caring. She gave plenty of extra credit for the exams. I never thought the exam content was hard but the time limit was tough. Definitely don't bother with the textbook its not needed. The final was very hard like way harder than the other exams but she curved it so it didn't affect my grade.
She's a nice woman and she knows what she's talking about when it comes to chemistry but her explanations are usually unclear and don't make too much sense. her homework has nothing to do with the class itself and what she teaches, she said it herself. i don't really care for this class, feels like I'm not learning anything.
Doesn't give enough time for exams and doesn't help well if any problems arise during exams. Extra credit for all exams besides the final but the exams are pretty difficult
I think this class is only bad if you don't use the resources you are given, you are given extra credit opportunities for every exam (really easy), and are given practice problems very similar to the exam ones. Discussions are very helpful, homework isn't bad at all (maybe some of them take a couple of hours but most are quick)
Get ready to teach yourself everything. I go to every lecture, leave super confused, then learn all the material on youtube. i do get As on the exams but it has nothing to do with her teaching at all. study weeks in advance.
Literally the nicest professor ever so funny and sweet. She posts a ton of practice questions to prepare you for the exams. If you use your resources and study you'll pass the class.
TOMCO is the best! She is seriously so sweet, and you can tell she really loves chemistry! Her teaching style is really good. I had her in person and attended every lecture. Listen to her recordings, and read the book if needed to help understand the material. She gives lots of practice problems, and even a practice exam.
DON'T TAKE HER! there are 4 exams and the last one is literally 4 days before the final exam. the class average for exam 4 was 43 percent. she added ten points but that's still nothing. she said it was our fault for this and that all we had to do was study and look at the material, which of course we all did ??? also no practice exam for exam 4 .
4th exam and final too close together. Doesnt explain what to pay attention to
Dr. Tomco is one of the most respectable professors at Wayne State. Every exam I took I felt very comfortable because she prepared us with practice exams and homework assignments. This class felt like I wasn't taking it alone since she supports her students with positivity. I recommend taking her if you're trying to learn the basics of chemistry
Tomco is a great professor. If you are prepared and manage your time well, you will succeed in the class. The test content isn't necessarily hard to master as long as you properly study and use class resources. There are 11 online HW assignments, 4 exams, and a final. Review and you'll succeed. The Final Exam was mainly based on the other 4 tests.
Dr. Tomco has definitely been the best science professor I've had so far! She really cares about her students and gives extra credit on every exam. I'm not gonna lie to you it's a tough class and you have to study A LOT. But what do you expect coming into it haha. I'm not the best at chem but that doesn't mean I'm taking anything away from Tomco.
She is a fine teacher. Gives practice problems but you have to study so much because it is only a 50 minute class. She goes extremely fast and exam 4 was nothing like the practice problems. Final exam was based on previous 4 exams. She gives a nice curve at the end.
Since the first day of class, i had felt nothing but respected by and respect for Dr. Tomco. She is incredibly intelligent, and i learned so well from her. Dr. Tomco was eager to answer my questions, and was always a professional. The course was challenging, and i studied very hard, but felt very well prepared and supported throughout my study.
she gives extra credit all the time. explains the material well and breaks it down for us. if you miss a lecture youre screwed bc lectures contain a lot of info. tests were difficult since each question is weighed differently and theyre written and multiple choices. shes a great professor, just make sure to use your time wisely.
Idk why everyone says that she makes it so hard or that she doesn't care about your grade. The class was difficult but the material was entry level material and super complicated. Sure the class was tough, but it was not terrible but you have to study quite a bit.
I loved my class with her! I was initially nervous about taking a Chemistry class but she made it very do-able. Lectures aren't required but are very helpful and I would recommend going. She uploads all of her notes after, provides practice for every section, practice exams, etc. She also offers extra credit on ALL exams. Definitely recommend!
She is a slow teacher, but she thoroughly explains things. ALL TESTS ARE FREE RESPONSES. Calm down. Write down everything you know. Do the homework. I failed the last two tests and still got an A. She was extremely kind. The last unit is the hardest, so don't worry if you don't do too well. Don't bother with the discussion.
If you care about this class, you will get an A. go to every single lecture, take notes, practice the practice exams & practice problems wayyy ahead of the exams, and you will get an A!!! Just because everyone else is getting Cs, does not mean an A isn't possible. Understand every single thing that will be on the exam, practice, and you will too!!
If you watch lecture, do the practice problems she gives you, and practice exam in advance you will do good on every exam. She always curves exams 4-10 points.
Explains concepts at an exceptionally fast rate. Covers whole chapters in 1-2 classes. Hard to follow and understand. Expects you to have background knowledge of the subject and is not very accessible.
Okay professor. A lot of work and you have to study in order to pass. Nice Professor just too much work and goes way too fast
Honestly, I had been dreading taking this class; I genuinely believed there was no way I could do well. With Tomco, you need to practice!! I spent so much time redoing lecture problems & the practice problems she wrote for us. I love Dr. Tomco. The class by nature is difficult, but she gives us plenty of resources to help understand the material.
Honestly this class is something that I thought was going to be extremely hard, but it isn't. Her exams are just like her practice problems, so if you student them then you will pass. Very sweet and chill professor. Put in the work, and you will pass.
I couldn't really understand because of how fast she goes, but since it was over the summer it makes sense. maybe it's different over a regular semester. She is a really nice prof and gave test corrections for the class as extra credit twice because we did so bad. exams are approx 20 questions THAT ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS SHE GIVES. FR.
Dr. Tomco is easily one of the best professors, she helps you achieve an A in this class with all of the homework, and practice problems for each chapter. She even gives us practice exams that are just like the exams themselves. She goes above and beyond for all her students, offering us test corrections for a better grade on exams.
She's super sweet and caring, a great person and if you need extra help, she will help you. She teaches through lectures but thats about it, you need to study and apply the material by yourself. I did enjoy going to her class and she uses lots of examples. The material is hard but her being a good person makes class better!
She is a great professor
Good progress. I would recommend 100%
Not enough time
Took Tomco for Gen Chem 2, she's honestly amazing. Takes her time solving and explaining content in lectures to prepare you for the exam. Fair exams, very similar to her lecture, book problems, and study guide. If you study after every lecture, you are guaranteed an A in this course.
She was alright but disorganized and bad at explaining chemical concepts. Inconsistent exams. Half the class failed the first exam due to insufficient time. However, she did give extra credit to make up for her mistake. So I'll give her that. Tried to challenge us and push us at the worst times.
Only complaint I have is that the class average for the first exam was a 40% because we weren't given enough time to finish it. Dr. Tomco redeemed herself though by providing extra credit, curving exams, and giving us enough time on later exams. I really love her lecture style, she goes over lotss of example questions which really help w exams!!!
Dr. Tomco is a very kind person who wants you to do well in chemistry! I took her for Gen Chem 1 and 2 back-to-back. GC2 is not an easy course and she will push you hard to do well, but she also is extremely generous on the extra credit. Go to discussion, hit the practice problems HARD, and study the lecture notes. I highly recommend her.
I had Tomco for Gen chem 1 and 2. She is hands down, one of the most caring professors I have ever had at WSU. She is overly generous with her extra credit points, her exams are very fair and are similar to the notes problems and she is almost always in her office available for extra help. She really wants her students to succeed in chemistry!!
Tomco was great at teaching and lectures but her tests were extremely hard. She made her test questions worded differently then practice problems, lecture problems and book problems so you had to figure out what she was asking on top of figuring the problem out itself. There was never enough time during the exams so make sure you really know it.
Took her for gen chem two. Never failed an exam until this class. Her exams were nothing like the practice problems. I spent a lot of time studying and still struggled on her exams. Also never enough time on exams. Only thing that pulled me through was the extra credit she gave so be sure to go to discussion if you can.
She is not that bad, very nice and caring. If you do practice problems/exams and end-of-chapter questions, and actually put in a bit of time, you can do well in this class. I would recommend her for gen chem 2
She never sets you up properly for any exams. The content is hard to learn because she teaches everything as if you should already know it. Her final exam was completely horrible because it was nothing like any of her previous exams. Everyone talks about how she's so nice but all she does is laugh at everything and sets you up for failure.
General Chem II Is a hard class. Many people overlook this and expect their hand to be held throughout the entire semester (*cough* Matti *cough*). Tomco does not do that. Instead, she prepares you for the real world. The people saying otherwise did not take her seriously when she said more than 4 hours a week for this HARD CLASS!!
She explains things so well and is actually such a good prof. I am definitely taking her again for higher chem courses. Make sure you do her practice questions on each chapter and you'll do fine on her exams.
Pretty good prof as long as you took the time to understand the material since it's a difficult class. She already had her notes prepared before class and would copy from that onto a blank ppt and explain it which made it tough at times because she would skip some steps. Other than that, if you do the practice problems she provides you'll be fine.
Good professor, make sure you study the material to pass.
One of the most caring professors at Wayne State, she really cares about her students and how well people do in her class. She always wants everyone to succeed. One thing that really helped me in this class was practice problems and reviewing her lecture slides. This class is algebra heavy so make sure you know how to set up an equation.
Chemistry is a difficult subject as it is, but Dr. Tomco manages to teach it in a way that makes it easy. The class is based on homework assignments with 2 dropped, along with 4 exams plus a final. If you do well on the final, it can replace your lowest exam grade. She is a very kind professor and adds many extra credit opportunities to her exams.
She is such a great professor. The material is okay, but her style of teaching makes it easy. She gives extra credits, which helps your grade a lot! Do the practice problems and the practice exams; they help a lot when studying for the exams.
Look, I have never made a rating about a professor before, but I had to for Dr.Tomco. She is the most caring professor I have ever met at Wayne. I advise for you in the beginning of the semester to go to her office hours and introduced yourself. Go to her if you're struggling she will help direct you in the right path to succeed in her class.
Extra credit, two hw drops, lowest exam placed with the final, her providing all of this helped me so much. Use the back of the book problems to help, her chapter problems, and practice exams. They help tremendously.
She goes very fast when teaching lectures and does not try to thoroughly explain the material. She gets upset when students ask questions in class and writes so small that the writing is not legible. She is a strict teacher whose tests are very hard because her teaching style is very confusing.
Her class was pretty easy, all you had to do was understand the questions she would do on the slides. I didn't watch a single lecture and would just learn based on the solutions she posted and did really well. Very nice professor
If I have any chances to have her for any upper-level Chemistry courses, I'd do so. Her class is easy (easier if you take CHM1040 before). Exams match with her study guides, also she responses to my email outside of classes in a timely manner. Kudos her!
There are unannounced attendance points in this class which aren't indicated in the syllabus. The material is heavy but what makes it worse is that there is no practice asides from slides. This class is INCREDIBLY memorization heavy as well so make sure you're able to do that if you want an A. Exams were very difficult as well. She's very nice tho.
This was the worst final I have ever taken in my undergraduate career. Success in this class was so arbitrary, there were literally no problems or practice, and exam questions were incredibly difficult. The idea for the course is there, but the delivery seems very unplanned and poor. I will say the professor curves generously and she is nice.
Also Had her for 1140 and got an A. Sometimes exams are unpredictable, but she typically fixes it via a curve or EC. Super nice professor and will bend over backward to help you if you ask. Lectures can be somewhat difficult to understand, but if you talk to her, she will clarify!!
I love Dr.Tomco she's amazing and super understanding. She gave extra credit projects a couple times to help students raise their grades due to doing poorly on the tests. I can't say enough amazing things about Dr.Tomco. Her TAs are amazing as well.
Her exams can be wack but sometimes they're fair, I think it just depends if shes in a silly goofy mood or not. I am a Tomco apologist I think she cares a lot about her students and their success so she coo. Fair warning though there might be an exam that gets ya- anything on her slides is fair game.
Dr. Tomco is amazing. She is caring, kind, and knowledgeable. Her TAs, specifically Adelina- are amazing. I would without hesitation take her class again. Don't skip lectures. Take notes for the next class before the lecture; otherwise, you won't stay on pace. Use her practice exams and practice questions to your advantage and you will do fine.
Dr. Tomco was a great professor! The general chem units of this course were easier to understand, but get ready to do a lot of practice problems for the orgo and biochem units. They're harder, but if you do a lot of practice problems and do the work, you will do well in this class! She gives a lot of extra credit in the course as well.
Homework and exams are straightforward and exactly like lecture. If you attend discussions, go to lectures, and even attend SI/LA sessions, the content will make a lot of sense and you'll do extremely well in the class (speaking from experience). She genuinely wants you to succeed and is very sweet. Just don't talk during her class!!
Amazing and really caring. She makes this course passable when i took it in summer.
Dr. Tomco is a real WSU treasure. She genuinely cares about her students and is a very approachable and social professor- one of the many few here. Her exams are fair and are about her lectures. She is tough, but for a reason. She really wants you to learn the material instead of just simply memorizing. Take and talk to her! The GOAT.
shes a rly nice person, but she isnt the best at teaching. the only way of doing well in this class is memorizing. she doesnt post old exams like many other profs & doesnt make the keys for our own exams accessible. this was hard for me because so many other profs tell us to review old exams, but we cant do it in this class.
Professor Tomco is really nice and is passionate about her field. Her exams were fair and straightforward.
I loved Dr.Tomco! Her class wasn't crazy easy but she was always kind, understanding and very accessible! When it comes to the lab and discussion, I highly recommend trying to attend all of them. The exams aren't too hard, but just make sure to do all the practice exams and questions beforehand since the exams she gives are similar to those.
Best professor in the chemistry department hands down! Every thing is laid out clearly, do all the practice problem she gives and the practice exam! 4 exams, 1 final, lowest of 4 exams replaced by final. Gave 6 points extra credit on every exam so far. On top of that, offers 15 points extra credit for going to discussion throughout the semester!
Only review you need from a 4.0 student Tomco has complicated lectures, it is hard. She lectures everyday till the last minute and that damn ringer goes off. Group presentations, exams are long and not MC, tough grader but she curves a lot. Honors presented in an auditorium. Make sure you are always caught up on lecture material, not an easy class
This class is hard, so prepare to study a lot. The class is based on exams, homework, an article review paper, and a group project/presentation. The exams are a lot of writing and you must know the material well. She grades tough as well but she does curve sometimes.
She is a great teacher to at Wayne. She made learning Gen Chem 1 easy. First time i took this course at CC I got a C. Trust me she helped me get an A making the concepts easy to understand.
Overall Professor Tomco was very easy to work with. The class was not graded on the exams only. My one critique is that the class was very back loaded. The first half of the semester the content is a breeze and she moves very slowly, answers qs, and then the second half the content becomes much more condensed and she is racing through the slides.
Professor Tomco is one of the best STEM professors that I have had. She explained the material well and would explain things more in depth if you had questions. She also tells a lot of jokes during lecture and relates things back to real life things.
Dr. Tomco is probably the best professor I've ever had. She is so caring, respectful, and cares about your grade immensely. She assists students the best she can and grades her class very fairly. As long as you put in the work to study for exams you will pass with an A. Her exams are fair and she grades homework off of completion.
Professor Tomco is great for getting easy homework credit since it's graded on completion, and she uploads annotated lectures online. However, she moves fast in lectures, limits how many questions you can ask her while taking test, and sometimes tells us to study material that isn't on the test.
Nicest professor I've had but bad lecturer. Just reads off PPT. That said, I would study 1-2 days before the exam and ace the exams by memorizing the lectures. Hard not to get an A if you memorize the lectures. Pay attention to what she says in class, as she may say things not in PPT. Review Echo360 recording. Gives extra credit and practice exams.
she is the best she gave 20 points for everyone
For CHEM 1100, watch the lecture, do the example problems in the lecture slides, do the chapter problem questions and the practice exam before every exam. You will get an A every time. Practice exams are very similar to real exams! She's clear, nice and helpful. Would take again!
Listen to me: BIOCHEM IS HARD Doesn't matter who the professor is, the subject is hard and you are gonna struggle somehow. Tomco was a great professor i initially thought i was gonna get a C- or a D but somehow she curved and I got a B-. She gave extra credits every exams, extra credits for attendance and curved. She's the best take her!!
Dr. Tomco is a great prof! She is friendly, good lecturer, and reasonable in her grading and exams. She also is generous with extra credit. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well, and really enjoys when they are interactive and attentive to her lectures/the material. Practice problems are key to success in this class.
Dr. Tomco's class is challenging but rewarding. Attend all lectures and discussions, do lots of practice problems, and use Unstuck ai for study prep - it really helps! She's tough but fair and wants you to succeed.
Best Chem professor. Go to class, SI sessions, discussion section. Practice worksheets. relitsen to lectures. The GOAT.
Go to lectures. Work through problems and learn how to approach questions with a plan. Harder than gen chem 1. Wonderful professor really approachable. Exams are difficult but mostly calculation. Buffers and acids bases are tough. Excellent professor
She's truly one of a kind. I was so nervous taking this class because I'm horrible at the math portion but she is so sweet and has practice questions and office hours! I would definitely recommend taking her!
She was a great professor overall. The class moves pretty fast and takes a lot of studying, but if you keep up, you'll be fine. Going to lab and discussion is important and helps you understand the material better. She also gives extra credit. Challenging class, but fair.
If you don't pass 1060 then you just weren't even trying. Dr.Tomco gives so much resources and practice for her students than any Wayne State prof I've ever had. Tomco can be a little slow at times when covering her lectures but she will take out material to make it in favor of the students when it comes to exams. Tomco loves her students.
Dr.Tomco is hands down the best professor you could take for chem. She genuinely cares about her students understanding the material so I would definitely attend the lectures if you're confused and need to ask questions. The exams are mostly calculations but she provides a lot of practice material outside of class and practice problems in class.
Professor Tomco is the best gen chem teacher you can get at wayne state. She tries to be as fair as she can. The class needs lots of work put in to it and lots of studying its chemistry and it just needs lots of practice. Would recommend her to anyone really shes the professor you want for 1140.
Amazing class! Her exams are tough and you REALLY need to do a LOT of practice outside of class, but she is always willing to help and is very kind! Her exams are also meant to prepare you for professional degrees (mcat/dat/etc.), so keep that in mind! She's also very organized with her notes and explains things thoroughly! Best prof!
Dr. Tomco cares about her students 100%. the course is difficult because its a lot of information at one time. there's a lot to memorize. it's not her fault. However, the harder you work in this class, the less you have to work when reviewing for MCAT or DAT because it sticks with you longer. She makes sure to include just enough info needed.
Tomco is the bubbliest prof you will ever have. Fair exams, homework was simple and fast. She is super nice and answers emails very fast. The course was difficult, but that is just the nature of the course. Her slides were perfect and weren't super long, and had all of the necessary information that would be on exams. TAKE HER!!!
I'm surprised her score is not a 5/5. She doesn't have to b giving us hw, it's free points based on completion and it's clear she just wants us to do good and offers room for free points. She curves the exams as well!! U have to show up to lecture and take notes if u don't u will not do good. Put in effort and it'll pay off.
Best Chem Professor. Take her!!
Dr. Tomco is the kindest, and most lenient professor of all time. She is super caring and has clear expectations. For Gen Chem 1, you essentially guarantee an A if you actually do the practice exams, homework, and the practice questions without using outside resources. Essentially high school chemistry all over again. -100/10 difficulty.
I have mixed feelings. She's great most of the time, but sometimes i feel like she doesn't explain concepts well enough. For homework, as long as you answer all questions you get full points. I don't think anyone really read the book. Graders are pretty nice. On an exam I got extra point for "trying".
I loved taking Professor Tomco. Her homework is based on completion, and she explains the concepts very well in her lecture. If you do the homework, do the practice problems, and do the practice exams, you will do extremely well. I honestly did not show up to lecture that often and I did extremely well. I would definitely take this course again!
Dr. Tomco is the BEST chemistry teacher I've ever had and that says a lot. She is sweet and can tell she is passionate about her job. Very test heavy so get ready to study, however she gives a lot of review material. STUDY STUDY for the biochem portion of the class, things get intense there. Overall pretty easy course not considering biochem part.
Tomco is a great professor, always available to help in and out of the classroom. The lectures are heavy and full of information, but if you attend, she advises on what to focus on for the test. Lectures are also recorded, so you are able to re-watch whenever you need to. The tests are 5+ pages, but if you follow the review, you will be okay!
Prof. Tomco is an amazing prof, she obviously cares about her students and enjoys giving her lectures. Metals in bio is a hard class, but she makes the grading pretty forgiving if you show effort. Outside the exams there is a paper and group presentation that act as cushioning for your grade... Show up to lectures and you're in good hands
You are graded by 2 exams, 4 homeworks, a short paper, and a short group project. The final is optional, so you get rewarded handsomely for doing well on the midterms. CHM3000 is around orgo 1 in terms of difficulty, so be sure to study her annotated lectures. Fortunately, most of the exam quesitons are from the homeworks and lecture annotations.
I would definitely recommend her. She gives lots of extra credit and the homeworks are graded on completion. The tests are easy as long as you do the practice tests.
