I just wanted to say that, out of all the boring professors that teach biology I think that you do the best at teaching it and trying to make it interesting and fun. Especially with all the Simpsons pictures and all. Thanks for a good class!
So much material, So little time, but learning it is entertaining b/c he's clear and up-beat. The simpsons rule. Cool thing about being in an upper level class with him are the Mmmm doughnuts. I hear his office is cool too.
Lots of Material...Love Simpsons...and Moneys...Batman is so much better than Superman...Good Class...I'd take it again...the key is to reveiw nots after that its easy
This class was not that hard. The only thing that makes him difficult is that fact that he covers A LOT................ of information. It takes time, but if you study regularly you will do well!
He is awful teacher
easy class, good professor
Excellent teacher! Very cool in and out of class. The class was pretty easy for me, but the class avg. was generally in the 70's. A lot of material, and he doesn't use the book that much. Just his interesting slide show. Very enthusiastic about the subject & very willing to chat/help outside class
Boring lectures
Class is fun. He'll take the time to help you if you ask. Keep up and read the notes, and you'll be fine.
I think Dale would be great if he wasn't teaching in a lecture hall... He tries to make it very entertaining but at 9 in the morning it is difficult to stay awake. Attending class is optional and you don't need to if you can learn from the power point presentation. I never bought the book.
Dale is the best! His powerpoint presentation is very entertaining and he's very enthusiastic about the subject. I'm a natural science major and I believe that he provided the proper preperation for me to move on to higher level biology sciences. Excellent professor all around. Take his course!
Very good teacher. He's very enthusiastic about the material and tries his best to make bio interesting. Hard material, u don't have to go to class, but know the material cuz the tests are really hard.
Wicked funny and pretty cute. Great teacher to talk to and answers all your questions.
He is awesome, has a great sense of humor and is really smart. He makes class a lot of fun and even on boring subjects, he will get you interested and want to learn the material! I definitely recommend him. A++ professor :)
he covers the material in his powerpoints in class but it is so boring, hard to pay attention and his tests are so difficult.. they dont go along witht the study guides at all...
Caveat emptor!
I had him for lab, but I had to study harder for his tests than many of my other classes. The stuff we were expected to memorize was too extent for a lab course, but he tried very hard to make it interesting and was very enthusiatic. Do good on the first 3 tests so you wont have to take the last one
This class sucks. I would not take it again if my life depended upon it. His class lectures do not correlate well to his tests at all. The powerpoints on blackboard don't really help at all either. My two cents is don't take this class.
He try to make class interesting but sometimes you fall asleep because the lights are out for his powerpoint presentation! If you read your book along with his powerpoint notes you will not have any problem passing his class. He curves ALOT too. I'm glad I took his class.
PAY ATTENTION TO LECTURES! CURVES ALOT...and drops lowest test...I didn't show up for last half of semester still got a B+
Casamatta is the best!! I did NOT go to class much because it was boring, but he had the coolest personality. The class really isn't that hard as long as you look at his powerpoints. You DON'T need the book. Again, Casamatta is the best and I love the Simpons!!
the tests aren't too bad, there are 4 and he drops the lowest grade. he is really funny and is nice to look at
No textbook. Sounded like an easy class, but lecture slides had nothing to do with what was on the test. Not recommended!
Great teacher has an obsession with the simpsons and batman is better than super man thats a test question...go to class or you will get lost...curves alot drops lowest test
I love this Class! Its the first biology class I've had that seems interesting. I love the teacher, he teaches great. The class is easy to understand and easy on the mind. I love Gen Bio I and the simpsons!
I hate Biology... and he made me like it. He makes the class interesting.

OMG HE IS SUCH A CUTIE! And he is super nice. I got lucky and had him as my lab instructor also.
dale is definitely a cutie, but i disagree w/ the comment that the slides werent on the test. if you show up to class and engage yourself (taking notes w/ the slides, ect.) and study all the slides a couple days before the test, you'll do fine. minimal book reading.
Very fun to listen to, but make sure you study before his tests! He curves well, but for a reason. His tests are tough. His lectures are fun to listen to.
the lecture is very boring but you can pass if you study ahead of time. He reads directly from the board good thing he uses blackboard.
The tests are difficult. You really have to study for them. However, I still thought his class was pretty great.
d lectures are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring.the tests are way too hard.try another teacher
his tests are not that hard if you study, however he always gives multiple choice questions and they are just way too hard, he needs to use other methods of giving tests.
Not only is he a great teacher, but he is funny and sexy in a pirate sort of way. Take this class and you will see!

This is a course for science majors so it's going to be more difficult than a regular science class He is always happy to help anyone He gives you a study guide for tests All his lectures are powerpoint I did not even buy the book much less read it and still got a B Doesn't do attendance but lectures are crucial Best advice-tape record lectures.
dont take this class unless you are a bio buff. he is a generally cool/funny/helpful guy but his tests are impossible. i took ap bio in high school and got a 4 so i had to take this class (bc they only accept 5's) and i still struggled and got a C+! lab is easy but the lecture is boring and doesnt pay off grade-wise. :-(
this class is extremely hard, just to make a C,talkless of an A, so if u like ur self runnnnnnnnnnnnnn, before it destroys ur GPA except u are a biology guru ( as in xpert) if not dont try ur self
Casamatta is pretty clear in all of his lectures and conveys his point well. The man is a simpsons fiend
Great teacher! He is very funny and his powerpoint are actually helpful!
The class is challenging, but not impossible. he is a great teacher and always positive and helpful. You have to try though if you want to make an A.
Although it seems like a dreadful class, he made it very straighforward. He is very helpful, even if he is not your mentor. As long as you go to every class, and pick a decent mentor, you can be guaranteed an A or B.
this guy is extemely hard if you don't care for biology that much! this guy is obsessed with bacteria!! but you can get sooooo much extra credit if you print off the powerpoint slides that he posts before his lectures. big simpson fan.
hes very easy to follow in the lectures, funny guy that uses simpsons?lol...very clear in lectures..got an 83 on my first test..easy to cheat ha ...overall i LOVE THE CLASS its my favorite and not that hard as long as you go and pay attention and do the study guides!
HE is very nice guy, but he goes over materials very quick. he assumes that we know what he is talking about when we dont. his exams are very challenging. you need to start studying a month in advance to be able to catch up.
LOTS of material in each lecture. the powerpoints are really helpful so you don't have to take that many notes. he's very fair and explains things at the best of his ability. he's really cool and has a strange sense of humor. i find his tests SUPER easy but i study my butt off.
awesome prof. tests come straight form the lectures. i havent even opened the book. he is really helpful outside of class as well. pretty funny guy. the class is easy as long as you study study study your notes. if you show up for class, the tests seem easier. overall, i would say take his class!!
Cassamata is a great teacher. His powerpoints are really helpful, just attend class, follow along during lecture and you will make an A on the test. But it is not possible to make a decent grade and still skip, all the tests are based on what he says and whats on the study guide! i recommend him
his humor makes a very boring subject to a lot of people more interesting
Dr. Casamatta is an excellent and very intelligent microbiologist. The microbial class was one of the best upper level biology classes I have taken. You really cover a lot of material and it is very interesting. He is very fair.
Quite attractive I must say but that wasn't enough to keep me in class. I stopped going after about two months into the semester. Just look at the power points and study the book. I did that in my four hours before class and I got two As.
Great class!! Textbook not required but good if you want background info. Tests are from his notes and in essay form.
loved him. just go to class. listen. study. you'll pass... loved him!
Loved the class. Very easy and interesting. His powerpoint slides were fun and full of simpson pics. The labs were the easiest. Make sure to take notes in the class and study hard for the exams. Previous exams help alot. Stress free class if you love the microbes.
Study the powerpoints and you will pass. There are 4 tests. You can drop one of the first 3, must take the fourth, but it is not cumulative. Great teacher.
I love his power points, and his test questions are hilarious! I would so take him if I get another chance! Most people complained but they never asked a single question, he is extremely helpful if you see him in person. I would suggest him to anyone, he is great, but then again I’m a Bio. Major.
All of his notes are on the powerpoints, but for me, I think he doesn't explain it as much as he should with the tests he gives. He says you don't need the book, but it does come handy. I recommend recording his lectures as well. It's an easy B, but you have to work hard to get an A.
He is a helpful teacher..he only reads off of his power point and never explains much of anything. If you are looking to learn bio dont take him but if you are good at bio take him he rather easy.
He is hilarious- kept me awake in an 8 am class. Follows the book so if you miss a class you can catch up fast. Super helpful during office hours. Lots of extra credit on tests.
one of my favorite teachers, would take him for any class.
he's a good teacher and made things clear when people didn't understand. if you just raised your hand and asked if he could explain it or just go up to him after class, he'll be glad to help. other than that, if you actually put the effort into studying, you could get an A
He is one of my favorite teachers!! really a cool dude and knows alot about what hes teaching! take him cuz hes great!
Awesome teacher. Very approachable and will try to intelligently answer any question you have, and without ego (unlike most of the other male biology professors in the department). Really knows his stuff about microbes and his enthusiasm shows.
He is the reason why I made an A in gen bio. VERY awesome teacher.
great teacher. had to drop due to illness,am an older student. understands how this class of students feel since his parents are returning to school also. will work with you if asked. am taking him again come the fall, loved his easy going no nonsense style. do the work and come prepared with questions, i am!
first of all, DON'T BOTHER BUYING THE BOOK! not kidding, don't waste your money, we haven't even opened them and it's past the refund date, so i can't sell it back for the $180!! also.. i find this class very boring. i actually stopped going and only read the slides on blackboard. attendance... not mandatory! know the stuff and take the exam.
HOT as anything!!!For real... his class was good and he is really entertaining but I go to class just to look at him!
This guy is AWESOME. Makes the class really interesting and fun. He's hilarious. If he's teaching another class, I'd take it, no diggity no doubt.
he's funny. and makes class intersting..he wants you to get a good grade so he puts like funny bonus questions on the test. and he also drops your lowest test grade. cool teacher
He is the best professor ever and is totes helpful with everything. He is awesome and does not make learning bio strenuous but rather enjoyable. He is clearly passionate about his field and of course is not bad looking like some other bio teachers I wont mention...
He moves really fast through lectures so don't miss a class. He gives study guide for everything that is on the exams. Don't buy the book I didn't even open it. Exams aren't too hard as long as you study.
Attendance was not required, but the tests were directly related to lecture material. Really funny professor, his lectures are interesting, although he does go through the lectures very quickly. As long as you take notes and study the outlines provided, the class should be relatively easy.
He's very passionate and interesting and funny in lectures! Super nice guy! He moves VERY fast, though, and only uses powerpoints - no book use at all. Tests are all short answer, no multiple choice, and there are a ton of old test circulating out there. He re-uses the questions from old tests a lot. Really great teacher :)
good thing no book is required. he pretty much just reads the powerpoint and goes too fast, tests are essay or short questions. would recommend to record his lectures because he mentions so many things that are gonna be on the test that are in the pp. would not take him again.
Microbial. Fun guy. His lectures are interesting and he doesn't utilize the textbook at all. He's extremely enthusiastic about what he does. He moves insanely fast. I had to get a recorder and record the lectures.
Enthusiastic, hilarious, challenging. Interesting & helpful outside of class. Likes ice cream cake. Fast-talker. Recommend recording lectures & relistening. Exams aren't a cakewalk.
He is so into everything he teaches. His exams are little tough, but his enthusiasm for the material i think makes up for that. He is a great teacher....and really attractive. lol. He is a caring guy and super helpful when you go and talk to him. And he definitely stresses to talk to him sooner rather than later because then he can maybe help you.
He is very passionate about what he does and funny so sitting through lectures was easy. The book wasn't needed and we got a good study guide for every test, all of the power points from lectures were online so studying wasn't that bad. only downside is he talks kinda fast. 1 dropped test also! TAKE HIM
I took this class because of the recommended comments on here. However, multiple peers and myself have withdrawn from this course because the tests are so damn hard. If you have not taken AP BIO.. Then don't take him! He gives you a study guide, but barely none of it is on the test. BEWARE
Everyone who's complaining that his tests are hard are probably the ones who do not give effort in class. Pay attention to the lectures, do the study guides, and ask for help when you need it. Professor Casamatta is not going to baby you and spoonfeed the information bit by bit. He expects you as a STUDENT to do your part and seek help when needed.
These comments made me take the class and they were so wrong I studied eight hours for a test and got a 68 nothing he teaches is on the test and his study guides are so lengthy and barley any of it is on there DONT TAKE
Easy class, drops a test grade, study guides. No excuse in not making a good grade.
I really enjoyed this class and made good grades in it. However it was also my third biology class and I just took AP Bio last year. I know some intelligent, hardworking people that just could not succeed in this course. You do not need the book. He posts the lecture powerpoints online which is really nice.
4 exams, and drops one (including the final!). Many powerpoint lectures and the exams reflect huge amounts of info, yet if you study everything you should have no problem at all! Very calm and hilarious man, too! All tests were multiple choice. Take him, you will not regret it!
4 exams, all 50 questions multiple choice (study guides for every one). He drops one of the first 3. Posts powerpoints of lectures online! Exams are tough(because biology itself is tough, not because he makes it difficult) but if you go to class and study the powerpoints an A is manageable! He's really relaxed and laid back! Recommend him!!
The good, he has one of the best personalities of any of the Biology faculty at UNF. The bad, he is a very fast lecturer and will fly though material without explaining properly. Very tough tests, you cannot get an A just from memorizing the power-points and he doesn't go off the book which makes it hard to study for. Great guy, touch professor.
Awesome teacher! I got an A because I worked my butt off studying the power points and by passing the lab with an A. It is possible to get an A, you just have to work for it! He's awesome and is very flexible if you have any questions. He's totally laid back. I recommend him to everyone!! HE'S AWESOME!!! (:
Dr. Casamatta is entertaining, but you have to study to get an A. His lecture time consists of him talking about Powerpoint slides, which are conveniently posted on Blackboard. His exams are difficult, but he drops the lowest one. Make sure you do well in lab (lab is VERY easy) in case you bomb his exams. It will help your overall grade.
All of his power-points are online, as well as a study guide. 4 tests and he drops the lowest one. Extremely easy to pass, you just have to put in the effort for yourself. He's really helpful, he always has office hours available. Just know the material and don't study the day before. I recommend him to everyone!! He's awesome!!
TAKE HIM WITHOUT A DOUBT! He's super funny and everything is straight forward, no joke. Just take your time and study the powerpoints and study guides.
I really enjoyed this class. The professor kept it interesting. I found the class very straight froward, no tricks, he even added some bonus questions at the end of the exam. I am a science major and studied quite a bit and I got a 98% in the class.
Awesome professor highly recommend. He makes class interesting and fun.
Online class for biology and the movies. This course is interesting but being a biology major I hoped it would be more than the basics I've already learned in chem 1&2 and bio 1&2. He makes his lectures fun but I didn't watch a bit of them bc I already have learned these subjects. 3 easy tests are your only grades w some extra credit thrown in!
The most polite and helpful professor I have ever seen!!
Worst class and professor I have ever taken. Professor thinks more of his so called "humor" that the material. Tests are online proctored and most of the material is not covered in lectures. 3 tests are the only grades in the class and professor is never in his office and will not return e-mails. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OR PROFESSOR.
Dr. C is awesome. The lectures are entertaining and sprinkled with pop culture references (if you like The Simpsons, you will love ithim). The exams come from the notes, and the notes are posted on Blackboard. You'll have to be able to understand the content to do really well on the exams (of which there are 4 and lowest is dropped).
Great professor! Gives study gudies for all the tests, which is a big help since there is alot to cover.
Dr. Casamatta was hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had. He explains topics thoroughly, his exams are tough but manageable if you study, and he offers plenty of help. He gives study guides for every test and grades on a curve. I would take him again.
The reason I didn't do well in this class had nothing to do with the professor. I hardly ever went to class and didn't study for the tests. He is a great professor and loves his job and the subject. There are 4 tests, one can be dropped. No homework for the lectures (only for lab). Would recommend him.
Casamatta is amazing, his lectures are funny and interesting and as long as you go to class and follow the study guides you should pass. I would highly recommend him!
Only grade is 4 tests, with 1 dropped. Awesome professor
Professor Casamatta is great! He makes the bio lectures very interesting and funny and doesn't require attendance. STUDY the power points and you should do fine. There are four tests the last one counts as your final exam and is not cumulative. He drops the lowest of the first three test grades.
Dr. Casamatta is amazing. He is very fun to listen to in lecture, he gives a study guide which is slightly helpful for passing the exams. If you do lot's of studying on your own as well, it is an easy A.
Cassamatta is a great professor but literally lectures from a powerpoint. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! I did and it was a waste of money. Overall, not a hard class to fail. The tests are very straightforward but you still have to study.
TAKE THIS CLASS! he is the best. super easy. Test comes straight from the power points. I loved his lectures
I took this class and anticipated it wouldn't be much different than high school. When I realized I was going to fail I went and talked to Dr. Casamatta and he was very helpful. I ended the class with an A on the final. GO TO CLASS, if bio isn't your strong subject go to class and study. 4 tests, but can drop the lowest score and gives study guides
Professor Casamatta is awesome! All lecture powerpoints are online... I recommend printing them out and adding notes during class. Tests aren't tough, but you have to know the information. Always willing to answer any questions! Four tests total (provides study guides for all) and the lowest one is dropped. I would definitely take him again!!
Funny guy for sure! I would rather cover current issues in depth, rather than a broad history lesson of past environmental issues. It was out of date and did not explore any options to help fix current issues. He just explained a very general overview of some issues and did not know how to help solve these things, which is very important.
This professor is amazing. You only have tests in the class with a few HW assignments weekly.
Casamatta's lectures are really entertaining and informative. He really knows his stuff and gets right to the point. Attendance isn't mandatory and he only gives 4 exams and those make up your final grade. Favorite prof so far.
Dr. Casamatta is an amazing lecturer! He taught Intro to Environmental Studies (for the first time, I think), and he clearly knew what he was talking about and his lectures were interesting and informative. The PowerPoints are super helpful for the exams and if you study those, you should be fine. Awesome professor! Would recommend!
Casamatta is one strange guy, but he's really an awesome professor. Caring, helpful, and his lectures usually end early. His tests can be challenging, but they come ENTIRELY from his lectures, which he posts online. TAKE HIS CLASS.
I love Casamatta. I've taken him for Bio 1-2, and Intro to Environmental Studies; and if he was teaching Bio 3 I would take him again. His lectures are entertaining, he's a fun professor, and his tests are based only on what he talks about in class. He provides study guides, and the grade is based on 4 tests but he drops one. Take his class!
Casamatta was a pretty good professor. He is a laid back guy and definitely knows a lot about what he teaches. Tests are from the powerpoints. 4 tests plus the lab grade makes up your final grade and he drops your lowest test. Would take him again.
He is very lively in class lecture. His tests are not difficult if you study his PowerPoints. He does not use the textbook, so dont buy it unless youre taking GB2, GB3 (they use the same book). He puts questions on the exam about tv shows. He is laid back and loves prokaryotic cells.
4 tests and he drops the lowest one. Final is not cumulative. Knows what he is talking about, but goes fast sometimes. Don't be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear. Would take again.
Casamatta is a good General Biology I professor! He keeps the lectures upbeat and entertaining; however, sometimes he talks a little to quickly. He is mostly available during his office hours. I would advice emailing him prior! Overall he is a good professor.
We were graded by 4 tests, including the final exam. The final exam was not cumulative and the lowest test grade was dropped. Aside from the tests, he adjusts the criteria of the class based on the current needs and situations and there was opportunity for extra credit. Easy pass.
Greatest human being ever. Someone that passionately enjoys explaining his interests in biology to others and makes you feel excited as well. Incredibly smart and adorable like a panda bear!!!! Pay attention in class and study the power points that he provides for you. Has great hair too...
Overall, study the power points well and you'll do fine on the exams. 3 exams plus the final in which in the final isn't cumulative. Def would take him again!
Dr. Casamatta is one of the best professors I've had so far! He's funny and enthusiastic in his lectures. Study his power points and the study guides he gives and you'll do fine. Don't bother getting the book because I never even opened it. I wish he taught more classes I need because I'd definitely take him again.
Dr. Casamatta's class was very interesting and I learned so much! All test questions are from his power-points, which he uses in lecture and he also posts them online incase you miss a day. He is very approachable and nice but make-sure you are doing all of your assignments or he will not want to give you extra credit! Overall a great teacher!
I had him last semester for bio 1 and he was great. Had him this semester for bio 2 and I did not enjoy the class at all. Though I still ended up well, his tests were very confusing and made almost no sense at all. I studied so hard and I still never ended up with the grade I wanted. Def take him for bio 1, but I cant say the same for bio 2:/
Easy class if you attend class and do your work. Class is not mandatory but definitely helps if you go to lectures. Very funny and entertaining guy. Would 10/10 recommend and would definitely take his class again.
Dr. Casamatta is a chill guy, and seems to have a great personality! The thing is, his lectures did not give me any better of an understanding of the material than if I werent to attend his lectures at all. It also doesnt help that the material covered in this class is insanely boring. 3 exams, and one final (not cumulative).
He is great and it is not necessary to go to class if you read the lectures!
I am surprised Casamatta received poor reviews for Biology 2. His tests are based off of the power points, so there is no need to purchase a book. Start rereading the power points a week in advance and you'll get a guaranteed A on the test. Still recommend attending lecture because he is a cool guy.
We used Pearson for homework, he failed to mention it was graded as much as a test grade and wouldnt give points for late hw assignments. Students who never bought Pearson got exempted from the grade at the end of the semester while those who bought it and didnt complete all the assignments got a terrible hw grade at the end. Not a fair professor
study!!!!!! great lectures
Not a hard class to pass as long as you review the lectures before tests and the tests themselves arent even hard. Dr casamatta gives great lectures and manages to make even the more boring material entertaining. I will definitely try and take more classes with him in the future.
Dr. Casamatta is an amazing professor, very knowledgeable and passionate. I took him for bio II. You need to pay attention in this class. I didn't and thats why I got the grade I got. Study for the exams, know the material well. You will need to know the scientific names. The first exam is easiest, so make sure you pass that and start off strong.
Super nice and caring dude. Really cares about what he does and is super interesting to listen to. His lectures are very straightforward and easy to digest. Definitely recommend if he is available!
I took him for GB1 and GB2 and he's great. The material you need to know is all in powerpoints and he makes his exams easy. Recommend taking him for sure.
Ive had Dr. Casmatta for Bio2 and Micro. Although hes a cool guy whos enthusiastic about his lectures, his exams were a bit weird. I never did as good as I wanted to and I always studied well in advance and made outlines and study guides for each exam. I enjoyed listening in the lectures but his exams never end in what I was expecting to get.
His lectures are amazing, but the exam reviews aren't that helpful & the exams themselves (while I love the dorky jokes he puts in them) just never matched my expectations. Questions could be from pictures in the powerpoint that he didn't mention or asked in an abstract/confusing way. But he curves exams & drops one so it's not that bad.
I had Dr. C for Gen Bio 2 online. He uploaded lectures and we watched them at our own pace, and had MyLab & Mastering homework. We only had to go by the scheduled class time for exams. Dr. C was hilarious and fun to listen to, and made the most boring topics interesting. I wish he taught every single bio class at UNF.
I took Dr. Casamatta for GBIO2 and enjoyed his class. His class is mainly graded by his tests of which there are 5 but one can be dropped. He is a total character and his test questions are worded untraditionally but no difficultly. The tests are completely from the notes so be sure to read the powerpoints. I would take this class again .
Dr. C is my favorite professor, he clearly loves his students, and he's extremely passionate about biology. He's really accessible outside of class and answers emails very fast. He's a great teacher who knows how to make you understand a topic. The only notes I have are that he does go a bit fast in his lectures, and his tests are not easy.
he is AMAZING. seriously loves to teach and will make the content super interesting. lab grade is also incorporated with your lecture grade. you only have the exams (4), no homework, and no extra credit. his exams are very odd because his questions are unconventional, to say the least.
GREAT for gen bio. AWFUL for microbial. Avoid taking him for microbial!
If I would have known that he grades solely on tests, I wouldnt have taken him. Tutoring helped A LOT!!!! He seems like a chill person though.
Not good for non-test takers. Your grade is based off 3 tests. Good at explaining in lecture videos. Extra tutoring sessions were helpful. Wish there was more assignments to help our grade though.
Tests are the only assignments (but are curved and lowest grade dropped). Very lecture heavy but professor is entertaining and engaging. Provides study guide and final exam is not cumulative. Responds to emails quickly and sometimes offers extra credit. However, the lab is an excessive amount of work.
Casamatta is probably the best professor I ever had at UNF. I had his GBII class during covid and its very easy to pass as long as you study the powerpoints. The only assignments we had were the 4 exams which were all multiple choice. GO TO THE SI MEETINGS ESPECIALLY EXAM REVIEW SESSIONS! She makes mock exams that are almost identical to his exams!
This class was a very tough class. Don't except to pass without studying very hard. Very confusing information. Not his fault just bio in general. He talks super fast so def dont have time to hand write but listen and add to notes what he says in class makes it way less confusing. BIO is just such a hard class but def take him!
The class is graded by 4 tests, lowest is dropped. The material is very difficult and hard to understand. He tries to make the lectures more interesting and enjoys teaching them, but its a hard class to pass on just a couple test grades. He uploads powerpoints ahead of time and its easier if you take notes before lectures and add to them in class
The exams are straight from his PowerPoints and maybe a few questions from his lectures. Doesnt write on the board. I stopped going to class after the first exam and made an A. Lowest test dropped. Hes a nice guy but his disorganization was frustration. Overall easy A
Hilarious and entertaining. 4 exams (1drop). Exams are MC on PowerPoints. Some details he only mentions in class, so don't skip. Get good at reviewing ppt slides for 15 mins a day until exam to keep content fresh, because it is a lot. Other professors I've heard are tougher, so he is the best. You can take him w lab which I would recommend.
Professor Casamatta is a hilarious, nice guy. The only issue is your only grades are 4 big exams and an optional final. If studying and tests are not your thing, avoid this class! Overall, I would not take again but, he is a really great guy, and you can tell he loves what he does. If you love bio and can take tests, I definitely recommend.
Dale is awesome. My friends and I love him. Tough course material b he has a great sense of humor and makes it worth it. Taking him again for Bio2. Exam 2 is no joke. The final was the easiest. Studying like an hour a week will make all the difference. HIGHLY recommend.
Casamatta was a great professor, he was fun and kept the class entertaining. his class is not easy tho mostly because if you don't pay attention you won't do well on the exam. Plus the ONLY assignments you have are the 5 exams (including final) BUT one gets dropped so you can skip the final if you did well on the exams before.
Lectures were very interesting and a great professor. 4 exams with one dropped. Attend SI and read through PPT for tests!
Really interesting and funny lectures but be sure to study up before tests because those are the only grades that go in. Lowest is dropped though
He's great and very caring. I took him for Bio I and also Bio II and I don't regret it. His grades are only based on 4 exams (1 is a drop), so there's no homework. He also puts the exam grades some hours after we take the exam. Make sure you study the slides. You can tell he loves to teach and has good energy. I would recommend it.
very chill, very passionate, grade is only based on 3/4 exams you take (one exam dropped). All lecture, and although the ppts are posted some concepts might not be clear w/o him explaining it even if you google it.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. Being that this is only a beginners science course it is extremely difficult. He only gives 4 test for the entire semester and does not give out any homework or extra assignments making it almost impossible to pass. The test averages all range around a 60-70% and most of my peers dropped out.
Grade was 4 tests and lab, lowest test grade dropped, dale was a great lecturer and always available to help during office hours. Doesn't welcome participation because its such a big class, but if you go to SI you're guaranteed an A. Show up, study and genial pay attention. Dale loves what he does and is great at it.
He is a great professor. Very clear grading criteria (4 tests, one dropped). He pulls everything from power-points but his lectures are also really entertaining. 10/10
Super nice and caring professor! Only has 4-5 tests for your final grade, has powerpoints but mentions stuff related to the tests in lecture. SI was super helpful!
Dr. Casamatta is a great professor. All tests are based on the given PowerPoint, and one test is dropped out of the four. Super chill, easygoing, and a very funny lecturer. Very approachable in office hours and is never condescending. He also provides all the readings so no textbooks needed. If you have the opportunity, definitely take him!
This professor was by far my favorite that I've taken at UNF to date. Respectful, funny, and WILL help you understand the material. Take notes in class and you also get study guides on canvas! Graded on 3 tests and 1 optional final. Very respectable professor and person as a whole.
He's super approachable and friendly, but the 8 AM class time made it harder to pay attention. This class was not hard; his exams are relatively easy but there is A LOT of material, so it definitely is a lot of work. Go to class and office hours for surprise extra credit. Know Rick and Morty/cartoon characters for the EC questions on exams.
I took MCB3020C as a transient student from UF to fulfill part of the 9 credit summer requirement. Dr. Casamatta was awesome and super accessible by office hours. All the lectures were hilarious and interesting. There was no textbook, so just study the slides. Four exams and the lowest is dropped. The lab is with a different professor.
I won't go into detail because there are so many other ratings that will say the same thing. Casamatta is amazing!
Dr. Casamatta's lectures are engaging, and with no textbook required, just focus on the slides. The exams are straightforward, and the lowest score is dropped. unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the lecture slides.
Dr. Casamatta is really good at keeping the class engaged despite the fact that there are about 200 of us. He's very friendly and accessible in office hours too.
Amazing professor!!! Graded by 4 exams, lowest is dropped and final is not cumulative. Lecture is not boring at all, and he is very engaged! Best bio professor in the department! Definitely take him!
He's awesome at keeping everyone engaged. The only down side is that your grade consists of only 4 tests and the lab grade, good thing is that the lowest score of the tests gets dropped. Also, I always remember on the first day that he said he doesn't try to trick you on his tests, his answer options are always so funny.
I loved this class! Attend the SI sessions and pay attention to the study guides and you will do fine! Amazing Professor and class!
Took Fall 2024. Definitely need to have similar personality and similar interests to understand his lectures/exams. You do get a drop exam. Spend time outside of class studying & go to SI because it'll be the difference between pass/fail. His extra credit is specific questions on the exam (Which of the following was Rick NOT from Rick and Morty).
Casamatta is very friendly & laidback. Lecture is not required, but if you attend, study the powerpoints, & go to SI, this class is an easy A. Sometimes lectures were a bit confusing to follow, not because of material but the way it was presented. He is also not very easy to get in touch with. Exams are solely multiple choice & drops the lowest one
Attendance is not mandatory, only graded on 4 tests, (4th being the final, but only covers the last 4ish lectures), You are given a study guide about a week before each test, along with a practice test with answers (some questions would be in test). The lowest test grade is dropped, don't have to take final if happy with grade after the 3rd test.
Professor Cassmata is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares about his students. He explains concepts clearly and is always approachable, patient, and supportive. I would love to take him again for Microbiology because his teaching style makes difficult topics feel more manageable. I highly recommend him!
Professor Casmatta gives detailed and well-organized lectures that are extremely helpful. When taking this class the only things that were graded were exams so if you are not an exam person then this is not the class for you. I would highly recommend going to SI sessions as they help reinforce the material gone over in the lecture.
Great lecture professor who makes all the material easy and understandable. It's a lot of material so going to SI is very helpful. No exams just Four exams where one will be dropped. Attendance isn't mandatory but helpful.
Prof. Casamatta is entertaining and his class is not difficult. Attend the lectures and make sure you understand the content fairly well. There are 4 tests - so far they are multiple choice and pretty easy.
Dr. Casamatta taught by going over lectures in class. There was no homework or extra credit, only tests. However, he made sure to tell students to not bring erasers on test days because his questions were straightforward and he wasn't trying to trick students. Attendance wasn't required but class was worth going to. SI and study guides were helpful
I took him for bio 2. Lectures are just him reading off PowerPoints posted on canvas. Test are wordy, confusing and filled with jokes— it's hard to tell what's even being asked. 4 exams (1 dropped), lab is 30% of your grade. Extra credit is cartoon characters. No mandatory attendance, don't take if you struggle with test heavy classes.
Professor Casamatta, is a very good lecturer and professor he always keeps lectures interesting and informative, tests basically match the power points. If you need help go see him in office hours, overall a great professor. The only reason he gets a 4 is because he asks test questions a little bit odd sometimes and it can be confusing at times.
i think his exams were filled with jokes a bit too much and it confused the hell out of me...
He's a great teacher and is knowledgeable and passionate about biology. His exams are easy as long as you study the PowerPoint. He only has exams, lowest is dropped at the end of the semester but always offers one extra credit question for each exam typically on an animated show like Rick and Morty or on old school video games. Would take him again
You will cover a LOT of material in his class. He offers extra credit questions on each exam, and they are usually silly like Harry Potter or Mario themed. Make sure you take notes. There is no homework, just 4 exams that are straight from the powerpoints. He loves to make jokes and keeps the lectures fun.
Dr. Casamatta is very passionate about Biology and is always sharing interesting news and stories in class. Tests are mostly based off of PowerPoint slides, though some questions will be specific to information shared during lecture, so it is well worth attending. Plus he almost always ends class early. Just study a bit and you'll do just fine.
he's a very fun professor! he can keep lectures engaging. grade is made up of lab, and 4 exams (lowest is dropped). i will say his exams while easy, they are wordy and include filler to try to make them fun. while attendance is not mandatory, you should attend and look over powerpoints to do well in the class
He makes lectures interesting and sometimes he shared some biology news story. Overall Dr Casamatta a great professor and I would 100% take him again. The exams are straightforward (4 but 1 is dropped), but some of the questions are worded weirdly, which made some confusing to me, but overall great regardless
Took in Spring 2025 - class was only graded on 4 exams, with the lowest grade dropped. If you rely on homework and quizzes to boost your grade or don't do well on tests, take a different professor. If you do well on exams, you should be fine. We were a week behind Lab so we learned the material in Lab before class most of the semester.
