Dr. Cope is a GREAT prof overall! There are in-class problems so attending class and having a laptop is required. Exams are just 5 problems over 2 hours and are similar to the HW (Chegg is a MUST-HAVE). He is very willing to help you understand a topic in office hours but he's a tough grader and will not budge when trying to discuss exam problems.
Dr. Cope is always cheerful and has a genuine interest in the material. He tries to make it as interesting as possible. The worked-out problems in class are very helpful. He basically told us what the questions were on the final. He has more office hours than any other prof I've had. The tests are fair, but Cope is a very tough grader.
Dr. Cope is a really nice guy and very willing to help you learn. He does tons of examples in class. There is homework every week that is 8-13 questions. Participation points are taken in class. The three projects were time consuming and challenging. The tests are tricky, with problem types I hadn't seen before.
Dr. Cope is an awesome prof that really cares about his students! In office hours and class he is helpful and does loads of examples in class. There is homework due every week but I found these invaluable as on his test usually 1-2 problems were straight from the homework. He was so awesome I signed up to take him for CVEN 305 as well.
Love him as a person, as a MEEN 221 prof he makes the class harder than other profs do. We were the only ones that had to do 3 time-demanding projects. Quizzes and/ or in-class work due almost every lecture for credit. HW due every week but is helpful. Genuinely cares about students and has interesting anecdotes. Lectures are helpful & interesting!
Dr. Cope is hands down the best professor I have taken at Texas A&M. He is kind and truly wants you to learn. I will say that getting to know him makes a big difference. After I formally met him he checked in on me to assure that class was good. If you inform him that lecture isn't making sense he will stop and make sure everyone is understanding.
Dale Cope is an all around great professor. He explains things clearly, works through many relevant examples in class, and cares about his students. Very approachable. His section had the same quizzes as all the others, but online, which made the class easier as well.
cope is an excellent prof. if you are ever stuck on anything, go to his office hours and he will work it out for you step by step. the class can be intimidating, but if u watch the videos and finish mastering for the week before the recitation class, the concepts are so much easier to grasp. super friendly guy, he is a true aggie.
Dr. D, as he tells us to call him, is one of the best professors I have ever had. He has a ton of real world experience which makes for a lot of great stories. The class is hard, but he's very fair and he cares that you understand the material. I would 100% recommend him.
Dale Cope appears to be a good professor, but he is not if you ever have to interact with him on a one on one basis. He is incredibly stubborn, and refuse to take blame for anything. He will post rubrics that contradict project assignments and insult you when you ask which to follow. I am a 4.0 student, and I have never disliked a professor more.
Dr.D is absolutely fantastic. Meen 225 is a very labor intensive course, but he never fails to make it enjoyable. He loves the subject material and is a very nice guy on top of his teaching.
Dr. Cope is a very good professor. The class itself is labor-intensive no matter who you have. He also does his tests online and the other profs do not, which is a lot nicer. He makes lecture engaging and you're not falling asleep in the middle of it. Be prepared to work in this course.
Dr.D is fantastic, made the entire class very enjoyable. He is one of the few who thoroughly knows the material AND can convey it effectively. There is a lot of work in this class so be ready, the projects are a doozy.
Cope enjoys his material and is very good at explaining it. He will always stop lecture for questions and will explain it until the student understands. There are weekly quizzes, and also weekly take home tests and long projects. The midterm and final reflect what you have learned throughout the semester, could be way harder. Great teacher
I've never rated a professor on here before but Dr. D deserves it. An exceptional professor who explains concepts to make it easier to understand. The projects take forever to complete, but the overall scope of the projects are cool. Practice all the homework problems and you'll be ready for the exams.
Dale Cope is a good Professor when it comes to conveying the material. BUT be warned, his final exam is nothing like any of his weekly quizzes or the homework assigned weekly. There isnt much you can do to prepare for the final. I recommend cops if you want to learn the material but know that is final is ROUGH.
Weekly quizzes online worth 50 percent of class. Do NOT use chegg on the quizzes like me. I used chegg on everything throughout this class and made a C. If you actually try in this class you will get a B or better. The final exam was tough, only three questions. The class does have "attendance" for answering online clicker like questions.
He gives amazing lectures. The material is interesting, and really applicable to many fields of study. The weekly quiz is online. The final is so creative and beautiful in such a way that you are feeling you are a real engineer.
You should definitely take Dale Cope if you get the chance.
Dr D is a really likable guy and knows his material well. His course is flipped, so he relies on students watching lecture videos before class and goes over problems in lecture. My only gripe with his course is the online tests and projects assigned every week or so. There is little guidance in class and the grading is harsh.
Dr. D cares about student success. MEEN 225 is a difficult course but by the end of it you feel like you actually learned a lot of material. The difficulty with the course stems from the amount of work with it as it is a flipped class, but he is very good at teaching the material.
Be prepared to work if you take Dr. D for MEEN 225! There are 6 mini online tests and 5 analysis projects throughout the semester along with homework and a weekly quiz. However, Dr. D knows what he is talking about and is always willing to explain further. Can be a bit stubborn at times.
How well you do in MEEN 221 pretty much boils down to how well you understood PHYS 218. Most concepts are similar between the two courses, with 221 expanding on 218. Cope is a decent lecturer. Course material certainly can be tough, but if you get to the point where you can do the HW with ease exams should be no problem. Attend class for quizzes.
Dr. D really cares that you learn the class material. At times, statics/dynamics can be challenging with all the complex mechanisms that can be analyzed. However, Dr. D did a great job at teaching challenging concepts to an understandable level. Also, if you practice his practice finals, his actual final will mirror the questions on the practice.
You can tell Dr. Cope cares and loves what he is doing. Some lectures can be difficult to sit through as he stumbles through example problems, but in a major like MEEN, which is dominated by professors who only care about their research, he stands out as a great professor.
He explains concepts well, derives the formulas instead of plug and chug, you will understand the material much better than your neighbor who does not have him. Not to mention, he does online exams, other profs do not. Goes off his own grading rubric as supposed to the other profs who teach this class which makes getting a good grade much easier.
Really cares that you learn the material and has online exams
If you have to take 305 take it with Cope, he makes class interesting and if you do the work it should be easy to get an A.
Out of the CVEN 305 profs, he's definitely on the top. His weekly quizzes are online instead of in class - they're still very hard and not on chegg mostly, but his notes and videos help you out while you take them. The grader isn't terrible also. His midterm and final are hard, but if you pay attention in class and take good notes, you'll be ok.
Dale Cope is really cool guy but a terrible teacher. All we do in class is do practice problems without explaining any materials. He will expect you to learn the material before class through the online videos provided. I had no idea what was going on the whole time but still ended with a B because his weekly tests are online. Take other professors
Cope is an awesome professor that gives very applicable real world examples. Make sure you read the textbook and watch the supplemental videos, it is much easier that way. Class is an easy B and a relatively easy A.
MEEN225 is difficult and really time consuming, no matter who you have, but Dr. D provides all the help you need to succeed. If you keep up with the homework and start early on the projects, you can always get help between office hours and the regular help sessions!
Dont pay attention to my grade. That was entirely my fault. Dr. Cope is fantastic. He explains everything well, gives us real life examples and problems, gives us groups to work in and figure things out, theres a lot I wish I could say about this class without going over my character limit. Basically if you need to take MEEN 225, TAKE HIS LECTURE
Dr. Cope is an amazing professor. Really cares about his students
Dr. D is amazing but his class has TON OF WORK! if you get his class be ready for 4 projects, ton of homework 6 online test every other Friday quizzes and more!
He is a nice man and all but I really struggled to learn in his class. Class time was extremely rushed and he would regularly trip up when blasting through problems , which made understanding even more difficult. There is so much work in and out of this class and when you struggle to grasp it in class it makes your chances of surviving hard...
Final & Midterm exams each worth 25% of class grade. Has 4-6 tests not including midterm or final. 95% of grade on tests is on work you show, not the answer, if you don't do the math his way, you lose points. He doesn't do the math for his own lecture examples, he sets up the algebra, then takes first number shouted out. Lecture Examples are wrong.
He is a solid choice for the class and probably the best option i guess. He gives a lot of homework and work, so get ready to work hard. The projects also take a long time to complete. Chegg really helps. In all, the class isn't too bad as this is a hard, tedious course. Just try to get at least a B if you can because it is definitely doable.
This dude is way too overrated for no reason. There is so much work in this class that its crazy and chegg is the only solution for all this. Cant wait to get out of this class.
I had Dr. D for MEEN225 & MEEN489, he is a great professor. He's very well-organized unlike the other professors I've had. He's adapted well to the online learning, and really cares that you understand the material. The lectures can be a bit tedious when the question takes really long. He gives a lot of resources and support. Would recommend.
This is a very difficult class in general but Dr D genuinely cares to help you understand the material and succeed. Very engaging and super organized class and lectures. Easily the best prof Ive had in college thus far
Cope simply does not care if you learn the material or not as that is for you to decide in your own time. The online exams are like hell to complete. HW is kinda unnecessary and can be a time killer. Projects will take you the whole weekend to do, stripping you of your social life in college. There isn't any real way to study for this class.
I have taken Dr. D for both 225 and 489. His class is very well organized and has all the resources you need to do well. The 4 projects and homework may seem overwhelming/excessive at times, however, work on them and you'll be better prepared for exams. Overall, this is a very time consuming class but its definitely doable if you put in the work.
This dude gets off track so easily at times and he does not explain the lecture examples thoroughly in accordance with the slides. He is overhyped in my opinion and there is too much confusion with this course, where you have to ask questions regularly to understand.
He should slow down in class to avoid errors and ensure that students fully understand what he is doing. Also if he stays on topic the whole class, maybe the class will end on time. He needs to improve greatly if he is reading this.
Everything about his class is literally so damn confusing including himself. Never again am I taking him after this class.
I got extremely sick right before the midterm. When I submitted my doctor's note, the response I received from Dr. Cope was "Well that's too bad, you're taking the exam." He also claimed that the grades we were receiving for ICAs and HW were correct when we could compare the auto-grade to the posted grades and saw a large discrepancy.
This is a hard class in general because there is a lot of material to cover. Theres a lot of homework and the projects can kind of take a lot of time. Overall though, Dr. D is lenient with grading exams/projects. If you pay attention to lectures the material is not hard to learn.
This class is no joke in that theres a ton of online homework, projects, and quizzes. Material can be quite overwhelming too, but the positive energy he brings to every lecture just made the class so much more bearable for me. Hes a very understanding guy and gave us multiple attempts for our quizzes. Has great music taste too. Amazing prof imo.
Good guy, terrible professor. Goes way too fast during lectures and the slide shows are useless. His in-class examples are nothing like the hw. I had to rely on Chegg and Youtube to get through this class. Everyone says Dr. D is an amazing professor, but hes just an extremely likable guy whos bad at teaching.
Haven't leanred a single thing in this class with him because he sucks at teaching. There are some similar to his type who like him as a person but all they do is study 24/7 and don't sleep.
Worst prof I've had. Cope has made my experience unbearable, grading incredibly harsh and unfairly, as the points I got taken off were for things I included. He often lied about class procedures, and intentionally created tests that we could not finish on time, and called the class idiots and cheaters when we turned in our tests 10 minutes late.
he is a very tough lecture and professor, He is so rude, he does not help at all, he has dozen of HW and project which keep you busy and under stress all time, his work a lot which keeps you busy with his class which affect the time of other class, he has quiz every week and tests every two weeks, and he have 1 midterm and final, not recommended
I found Dr. Cope to be highly unprofessional while taking this class. He lied to students saying that we were required to attend face to face when we were not, violated school rules to try to force us to disclose why we were taking online classes, belittled students in class and over email, and frequently made uncorrected mistakes in his lectures.
He is an amazing person and really engages with his students. There is a TON of work in the class, and you have to put in a lot of time outside to understand the material (more due to the nature of the course, not him). Tests are similar to old textbook problems. Don't take this course if you have a lot of hours.
I found Cope to be highly unprofessional rude at times when submitting regrade requests. He is sort of lazy at times and can be quite stubborn. I'm just glad to finally get out of his class this semester and hopefully never have him again. This class was unbearable but managed to barely get a B in this class even though I didn't understand a thing.
Worst professor ever. Would not recommend. He is absolutely rude and uncaring.
Dr. Cope was not the ideal teacher to have for 402. The class is supposed to be an easier A for most and he makes it way harder than it needs to be. He often grades extremely harsh and will straight up fail you on assignments rudely if he is having a bad day and don't meet his expectations. I had to work really hard to barely make an A.
This class is just hard. Cope's lectures are usually pretty old-fashioned and he only explains basic ideas that do not help you with the homework. If it were not for finding the solutions online, more than 70% of it would be impossible to do. Exams are extremely difficult but he does help a lot in completing the projects.
Heavy workload, few resources to help review for midterm/final
His classes are fun to go to, but you should go to all as you have quizzes at least once a week. Prof. Cope is a very fun prof who knows what he is talking about in the lectures. The projects can get complicated but are totally do-able. If you go to the lectures and do the homework, then you will be doing good in Prof. Cope's class.
Dr. Cope is very knowledgeable and does a good job explaining the material. The class itself is pretty simply in terms of its material. However, there is a lot of HW and extra assignments. The group projects are difficult, but he basically walks through every step of them.
Dr.Cope is super caring and loves his students. Go to his office hours and the TA's office hours. He has provided so many TA office hours for any questions from minor homework ones to project-related questions. Dr.Cope sees and rewards hard work and is passionate about his work. I loved his class so much.
Dr. Cope is probably one of my favorite professors. MEEN 225 is an extremely hard course but Dr. Cope's passion for teaching and the subject make the course more fun and passable. Highly recommend him as a professor. Again the class is extremely hard, but he gives many opportunities outside of class hours to help.
Professor is very caring and if he sees that you are working hard, he will work with you to make sure you will succeed. There are a lot of projects and a LOT of homework in his class, so be prepared to sink a lot of time into this class, although I think that's unavoidable in this class. Overall, great professor, very intense class.
This class has a heavy workload and can be tough. His office hours are helpful for understanding concepts that you might not be getting. His lectures, however, do not help much with the homework and I often found myself looking at online resources for help with homework.
"We'll call it"
Hard class, but more a reflection of the major. This guy is awesome, and always brings so much enthusiasm to his lectures. 10/10 recommend.
Professor Cope is a really great guy, and I am honored to have been in his class. There are a couple of projects, but if you just go talk to him you will be fine. He really does care about his students, and genuinely enjoys teaching.
Dr Cope is an amazing professor and an amazing person. You are getting a professor that cares about his students, going above and beyond with tons of office hours and extra help after class. This class is pretty difficult, and extremely tedious with long homeworks and projects. Cope makes it all worth it, his passion for mechanics is contagious.
the GOAT!! dr. d is the best - take him for meen 225 if you can. his office hours were always very helpful & i think he's the most available outside of class out of the other 225 professors. homeworks can be tough & the exams are reasonable.
Dale is, we'll call it, unique. I can tell he cares about his profession and enjoys being here. He has some fire ties and taste in music. I stopped paying attention after the first exam but its not his fault, dale tries his best. Jeff Hanson on YT explains it a little better tbh and the videos aren't too long. But his lectures are still pretty good
Professor Cope is a great guy and really cares about his students. While there is a lot of homework and occasionally tight deadlines, the homework isn't worth too much toward your final grade and is pretty helpful for learning the material. There are also multiple projects that can be pretty dense, but he walks you through them pretty thoroughly.
I don't get why everyone is so high on Dr. Cope. His lessons are ok and he seems kind and friendly during lectures but he's the complete opposite outside of class. I went to his office hours and he impatiently answered my questions as if he had better things to do. It'll be up to you to find answers to questions you may have if you take his class.
Regardless of the prof, this course has a lot of homework. It isn't worth a ton (5%) so if you don't have time to do all of it then you'd be fine. Cope did a great job of going over the projects and was responsive to any regrade requests. The lectures were mainly going over practice problems and everything was recorded and posted on Canvas.
This is my first time on RMP so take that as you will - I'm just trying to give people a heads up on Cope. Homework is horrible, you get something like 25 questions per week with no feedback from the system other than 'correct' or incorrect'. Cope is super condescending over email and provides little to no help on many assignments. Don't take him!
Class is pretty hard but Dr. Cope makes it amazing. He is really fun and brings out the mechanical in the lecture. He is overall understanding and will work with you to get the material and assignments.
Cope was meh. You could tell he knew the material but he didn't teach it very well. Honestly this class was just a huge chore - Cope made it pretty funny because he's a good person but as a professor honestly not my top choice. Also watch out for the concept quizzes, if you don't show much work he'll absolutely take off insane amounts of points.
The readings aren't really necessary, but they can have information that may be helpful. The homework, which is due every 1 to 2 weeks takes a long time, even if you really know what you're doing, but it's ok to not get 100s on them because they are all only worth 5% combined. Tests and projects are a significant portion of the class but doable.
This is by far the best MEEN 225 professor. Cope is a very funny lecturer and teaches the content well. There's a ton of homework in this class, but it's gonna be that way no matter who your professor is. This is a time-consuming course but Dr. D is a great teacher and he makes lectures enjoyable at least.
"Howdy Aggies." Regardless of your professor for 225, you'll get roughly the same lectures, homework, and exams. Dr. D stands out for being so caring and eager to help out his students along the way. He's a tough grader, but if you put in the work (and do the extra credit assignments), this course gets so much easier. A 10/10 "we'll call it."
Cope was a great 225 prof. He has a clear passion for the material and makes going to lecture enjoyable. My only complaint was that a lot of the learning had to be done outside of class time, but that is just how 225 is designed. Overall, Cope is a great prof and get in his class if you can.
Lectures were really fun to go to. He would occasionally bring physical models for us to analyze (toy trusses, model crane, etc). Once the homeworks starting taking >3 hours, I stopped doing them since it's only worth 5% of the grade. If you stop doing the homework, make sure you understand the content to do well on the tests/projects. Great prof.
You learn absolutely nothing from his "lectures". Yes, he seems to care about his students, but he basically just tells you to watch Jeff Hanson on YouTube for lectures to learn the content. Honestly, all you need to do well on exams are those videos and the homework. His classes are a waste of time and he is EXTREMELY derogatory to questions.
401 seems more fun before starting than it is. Professor Cope is a very harsh grader and is a stickler for grammar and the small stuff when reviewing papers. He gives a lot more work than other 401 professors and can be frustrating at times.
Cope is somewhat nice and very interactive with his students; however, I just don't see his lecture style as all that helpful. Jeff Hanson was a life saver for the first exam. The first exam was extremely easy, the second exam was not. This class is a major chore but obviously it's very important for future classes in mechanical engineering.
Cope is good if you want a good grade, he uses a flipped classroom. He goes over questions to help with understanding. The homework load is very big, up to 5hrs per hw at times. He practically does the projects for you too. You can redo the quizzes at home if you don't get a good grade or can't attend class, exam 2 is hard, and the rest are easier.
Dr Cope is just an awesome dude. The HW takes forever, but it does take that much time to learn the material. Grading is very clear(unlike some other prof.essors) even though exams are only a few questions
A great professor whose class is very refined. You know what's expected of you.
As with any mechanical engineering course, the class is hard. But pay attention in class and keep up with the homework and an A is definitely possible. Dr. D will set you up for success, he is a great professor with so many cool stories and fun models he brings to class. He is the 12th man. Don't start the projects late and you'll get an A on them.
Very engaging. The lectures were helpful and relatively easy to understand. The homework assignments can be a bit long, but they're still doable if you start them before 3 PM on the day they're due. Lots of resources on Canvas, very accessible outside of class. Compared to other 225 profs, I guarantee you will have the best experience with Cope.
Dr. Cope is by far the best 225 professor. The homework can be a bit lengthy, but it is very doable if you pay attention during class. The projects are interesting and he gives you a lot of help on them. The exams are fairly straightforward, but the final exam was pretty difficult. He is very accessible outside of class and overall a great person.
The actual GOAT. Such a great guy and he's also super passionate about a&m and engineering. Would bring demonstrations to lectures which was fun. Homework was tedious and there is 3 projects but as long as you follow the formatting, he gives all of the equations in lecture. Test are only 3-4 questions and out of 150 points, but heavy partial credit
Cope cares about the success of his students. The homeworks take a long time, but it sets you up well for his exams which don't have any "trick" questions. He is a lifesaver for projects as he basically shows you how to do them. There's nothing too challenging about this class if you self-study or show up to class and pay attention.
Only Q-dropped because I'm changing majors to ELEN. He's a cool guy but his lectures and recitations are a pain to go to and his practice problems are nowhere as complex as the exam questions. Loads of HW which are difficult and take hours to do (invest in Chegg). He practically gives the entire project to you which is a plus.
Dr. Cope is awesome. To be clear he is by far the best 225 prof which others can confirm. He is very nice and encourages a reversed lecture style. HW at the beginning of the year is rough but it tapers off after a few weeks. Make sure to follow exact directions on assignments. Study and the class is very easy. If you do 1 thing, do projects early.
MEEN 225 is a fairly difficult class but Cope is a great professor. Classwork can be submitted without going to the lectures but I would highly recommend going because he basically does them with you. While the lectures are recorded and posted online, it doesn't show everything. He grades forgivingly and has great project/exam review sessions.
