Excellent instructor
This guy was a waste of space. All he wants to hear is students regergitate his flakey liberal psycobable. I also do not consider it ethical for a professor to solicit current students to sign a petition - regardless of the subject.
Do not take this class with FITZ. By FAR the worst teacher of my entire college career. It is not a class, it is the students listening to his ignorance.
He was a great teacher who motivated students. His teaching methods do not teach standard regurgitation of information. I got involved in this class and learned a great deal.
he is email crazy and his papers are way too time consuming..get out while you can.
One of the worst teachers I have had in my college career. His grading isn't based on your quality of work and is very subjective. You can even get marked down for having sumudges on your paper from the school's printer. My recomendation is to get out while you can. He sucks.

He is 100% liberal and all he tries to do is make you believe his beliefs. He sucks.
Had him back in the early 90s. He would brag about his consulting work. I would not hire him. Leftist and Worthless.
He is a part of the blame America first crowd. He believes our country and way of life is evil and is poisoning the world.
He is very set in his ways and very demanding. He seems to grade based on how he feels about you personally. He does nothing in the way of teaching in class and has told us to determine how we will be graded, yet when we make suggestions he dismisses them. Very unpredictable.

If you're looking for an easy class, go somewhere else. If you're looking to be challenged in the way you think about life, take a close look at this professor. I graduated more than 10 years ago and this professor is one of the few that really made an impact.
WOW! What else is there to say!!! Beware its a challenging class, hence the negative remarks....Best class I've ever taken!
The last two comments must have been written by a couple of his sycophants. He only wants to hear his point of view and is venomously anti-corporation, of which he always wants to believe the worst - true or not. He once posted the urban myth about KFC creating 4 legged chickens on his e-mail list. Avoid him like the plague he is.
Well I can understand some of the views of the students below, but this is your cap stone class to graduate. Fitz allows you to work in groups for quizzes, you have one essay exam which he tells you what needs to be on it. Your group can write it together and when comes to the test u just right the exam yourself. There is one group project that
Simply put, the class is tough. It has heavy workload, class participation is a must, and it has the occasional pop quiz to keep things interesting. Fitz's teaching style is unorthodox but effective if you give it a chance. But it was the most rewarding class I've ever taken and definetely changed my life for the better.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD
You get out of this class what you invest into it. Be patient and don't hesitate to question what is going on. Try to get engaged and you'll learn a lot more than you think you would. Definitely take this course if you can.
I learned a lot, but I put a lot of work into the class. I have a broader view of issues that more citizens should be aware of.
Worst teacher i have ever had. WARNING - do not take this class, take any other teacher possible for this class. 50 page project is worth 40% of your grade, only 1 test and you have to read 2 books! Please don't waste your time....Find another teacher!
This was an excellent class. The professor was very much on target with how things work in the business world. The team project was a good example of what students will experience in the future. The professor was very helpful and always willing to answer any questions students had.
This class was one of the most applicable and helpful classes that I enrolled in throughout my four years at ISU. Dale is a very educated and informative professor. He is very opinionated and a little stubborn at times but knows a lot about the subject. If you are serious about learning and not just getting by, you should take this class.
Read all assignments and take notes on what is read. Re-read just before class starts to refresh memory for quizzes. Fitz demands alot from his students. If you are not an excellent writer this class will be a difficult A.
very interesting class. You will learn material that will be useful to you for the rest of your life. Make sure to attend class, and do the homework. Also, come prepared to class, read the material, and be ready to participate.
when taking mqm385, make sure to take Fitz. You will learn so much that, which other professors have not taught you about. Make sure to read all the materials that are rquired, and also read the book very detailed in order to do well on the exam. Also, in order to be successful, make sure you and your group work as one.
I really learned a lot during this course. Fitz is tough and will work you hard but the class is not impossilbe. If you do the required work, participate in class, and show determination you will do fine.
If you succeed in this class, it will be becuase you have learned. if you are someone who does the minimum to get by please take another class. Fitz's class is not easy, but it is a good college course; people who actually enjoy learning in school seen to do well. the material is also useful; i was offered a job becuase of some of what i learned.
I enjoyed the class. Make sure you participate and if you have a busy schedule then find a different professor because it is a LOT of work but worth it. Get to know your group at the beginning of the semester because you see them a lot outside of class. Start project early if you can. Every assignment turned in has to be done with your group.
This class is not something to take lightly, but I probably learned more from him than any teacher at ISU. He really knows what he is talking about. Also make sure you participate in class, it helps a lot!
I've never had worse than a C in my life and got a D in this class. If you do not want to spend min. 1 hour every night on this class (I STRESS MIN, could be 2-3) get out now. You will do a ton of reading and you need to be in class every day. Quizes almost every day over readings, so don't skip a day. Very passable class but be ready to work!!
Fitz is a good person. That being said, this is one of the hardest classes you will take at ISU. The 40 page paper is 30% of your grade. Make him outline how it should look EARLY. Also, go to class every day and say at least one constructive thing. Go to him if you need help. Fire bad group members immediatly! You can do it if you put in the work.
Fitz is a hoot! very entertaining and thought provoking. He is passionate about his views and I admire that eventhough I didn't agree 100%. I think he really cares about people and society and for that he gets an A from me. God Bless U Fitz! For the students, his class is hard and you do need to read alot and be on top of the topics but it will for
I was disappointed by his bias and closedmindedness. I thought college was suppose to be about openness and new ideas. I guess that only applies if you agree with him. Challenge him with facts - he is usually full of crap or working with outdated data because it supports his dogma.
Theory, PRactice, Reflection. If you actually read (theory), practice (grp proj), & REALL think deeply & reflect, you'll learn more than any other class & the grade will FOLLOW. Fitz is the ONLY COB Prof to even mention "Corporate Personhood" as well as question the corp. structure & laws governning them. B prepared w/ SOLID arg.'s if you disagree!
BEST PROFESSOR AT ISU! This class makes you think about who you want to become and how you will get there. Fitz is very open and honest and challenges the class and each individual to become the best they can be. I will remember everything Fitz taught us forever. He has had an impact on my life and my future. Thank you Fitz for everything.
MQM 380 is not a course, it is an "experience". The experience is one of a kind filled with unseen magic! Reflect deeply about the course dynamics and you will learn more in 16 weeks than a whole year. Go into the course with an open mind and attitude to embrace yourself for a new learning community unheard of in the COB. My favorite course yet!!!
This is a great class to take if you are serious about your education. Fitz will take care of you if you put in the time and effort. You will get a lot of joy out of this class if you stay engaged and attend class regularly. I would recommend taking this course even if it isn't in yuor major. Everyone can learn something valuable.
This class is not easy. It's a lot of work that will be beneficial to the students that committ and try to understand this class's importance. Working with a nonprofit organization takes up most of your time, but allows students to give back to this community. Fitz is willing to help anyone that needs it, but you have to take intiative and ask.
this class is ridiculous. there is an excessive amount of work to do and most of it is busy work that he doesn't look at. you have to participate in class and there is a 50 page paper due at the end on top of the numerous homework/presentation assignments. He only talks about one topic all semester which is interesting but the work load is too muc
Fitz is an awesome professor. His class is definately worth taking. You will learn so much about yourself and during the experience you will learn many useful life lessons. This class requires alot of work but it is definately worth taking. Defintely one of the best professors and classes at the College of Business.
This class is entirely based off of valuable life lessons and growing as a person before you leave ISU. If you aren't willing to buy in, don't bother. If you are, it will be one of the best "experiences" you will ever have. It completely changed my outlook on life and where I see myself in the corporate world.
This class was a lot of work, but if you do it you will do well overall. Keep up with homework and class participation. You have group presentations and a final group paper at the end. You will learn a lot, but you have to keep an open mind.
This class was a lot of work, but if you do it you will do well overall. Keep up with homework and class participation. You have group presentations and a final group paper at the end. You will learn a lot, but you have to keep an open mind. He is always there if you need help and his information is very useful.
This was an eye opening class, unfortunately most students that buy into Fitz' opinions leave with open eyes and blinders on. The basis for most of Fitz' arguments are emotional and do not stand up to logical criticism. It would be a much better class if it was taught without Fitz' extreme bias on issues. I'd stay way from anything he teaches.
While this class was very challenging, it was probably the most beneficial of all the classes in the college of business. This class is for someone that actually wants to learn something, but if your looking for a class to sleep in, this is not the one. The teaching style is unlike any other and will definitely benefit you down the line.
Highest workload of any class I've had. Expect to have homework for every class period that must be typed, there is some wiggle room but not doing an assignment may lower your grade by one letter. Expect to read a lot of emails and watch a few hours worth of videos. There were no surprises on the 2 tests. Everything was from the text and articles.
He is a difficult professor. There are assignments for every class that must be turned in unless you want your grade to be lowered. There is a 50 page paper that counts as a majority of your final grade. The tests are strictly from the class notes, articles, vidoes, and book. I would advice not to take him unless you like a challanging course.
WORST CLASS EVER!!!!!!!! The most challenging course ever. You are assigned to a group for the whole semester. You practically live with them all year. 50+ page paper at the end of the semester. He is extremely biased and teaches all semester long about going green. ugh AVOID at all costs.
The class really opens your eyes to the real world. It's interesting to hear what other students have to say during class! No final, and the 2 tests are easy as long as you study. Make sure you spend the time EVERY week on the big project and you'll do FINE! Don't let other ratings scare you off...this is a good class to take! Work with your group!
Overall, Fitz was a really great instructor which allowed for the class to be exciting. I think the overall class was very informative and really helped me to prepare for my career.
Fitz makes MQM 385 the most interesting, and possibly the most useful, class. I was scared to take this class due to the workload, but I would take Fitz for more classes if I could. Challanging and worthwile experience that really transfers over into the real world
50 page paper sucks. Horrible grading.
This is one of a few handful of classes that actually allowed me to learn something useful for the real world.I guess that you should not take this course if you can't handle the truth. You will be very successful with hard work and being open minded."Fitz" is the best teacher I have ever had because he turned the class around/I was teaching.
If you are going to the COB for a degree, DO NOT TAKE FITZ. If you are going to the COB for an education, DEFINITELY TAKE FITZ. You will learn so much if you put in the time I PROMISE. I put in the time (not an insane amount of time though) and I got an A. In the beginning of the semester an A might seem out of reach but many people get them :)
The work might seem like a lot to some people. I found he improperly uses his position of authority. He doesn't tolerate disagreement and is so narrow minded, his note pads are only one inch wide. Education should be searching for facts and truth. His failing is he stops his search with only the bits that support his preconceived notions.
Fitz is a wonderful, caring professor. The information you'll learn in this class will open your eyes to the REAL business world. It teaches you things you never learn in other classses. The material is tough but he makes sure you understand it. The work load seeems daunting, but take it one assignment at a time and you'll be fine.
After hearing about the workload I was eager to switch teachers. Now that I have finished the class, I am so glad I did not switch. Yes, the workload is challenging but you learn so much. I think everyone should take this course before graduating, not just COB students. Once finished, you have a sense of accomplishment! its all worth it in the end.
Great teacher however he will work you very hard. You will learn probably priceless information but you will really have to earn the grade you get and spend a lot of time working on projects and such
This course, is not as hard as everyone else claming it to be. Just do your readings on time, yes there are a lot of them, but its not that bad. Fitz truly know what he is talking about, so listen carefuly cause you will truly learn a whole lot in this class, and hopefuly use it in your future careers.
This class will open up your eyes and is very unique compared to most college courses. I would recommend this class for three reasons. 1) You really have to learn on your own. Dale gives you tons of information but ultimately you have to read and make up your own mind on the material and topics. 2) Discussions in this class are meaningful and yo
This course is challenging, but well worth the effort. If you commit yourself to his class, you will learn so much more than you ever thought possible. His facilitations are fun and exciting. He actually teaches you how to move from a group to a team. "Fitz" has helped me become a more complete student, and a more competent individual. Great class
Fitz was such an amazing teacher! Everyone should take THIS SECTION of this course because it is sooo helpful! You learn a TON of information that will help to prepare you for the real world. It's a lot of work, but it seriously pays off in the end. Great teacher! Great class! Be opinionated! Be open! Expect to read a lot and work with a TEAM!
This is a challenging class but it is well needed to prepare you for the real world. A lot of reading and the exams are challenging but as long as you participate and do well on the facilitation and final paper, the grade will take care of itself. Dr. Fitz is the best professor I have taken so far and you will never forget CSR. I recommend him!
This is the most interesting class I have ever taken. I got an A in it. Make sure you get to know your group well and spend time with them outside of class studying. Make sure you work on the final paper as a team and that you all are focused. Speak in class because it actually make stuff interesting and this class was very informative.
This course is not easy, but it is worth every bit of your effort and money. The class is eye-opening and really gets you thinking. Make sure to do all the readings, and make sure to actually meet with your group and talk about the course work. Fitz is a great professor, and though you won't always agree with him, he gets you thinking. Great Class!
This class is NOT easy, but it is incredibly interesting. You will learn things that no other business class will offer you. Fitz is very passionate about CSR and is extremely educated in it. He may seem intimidating at first but he means well and is VERY reasonable when it comes to grades. Take this class and you will not regret it!
Every business student has to take MQM 385 in order to graduate. Well, you should take Fitz! He's a very wise man and willing to help all of his students succeed. But, if you do not like to read, participate, listen, discuss, do group work, then don't take him! I am just forewarning you.
Fitz's class is a LOT of hard work, but then again it's your capstone class so you should expect to work hard. You learn to think about things like you've never thought about them before. And he lets you swear in class which is funny and cool.
If you're looking to be lazy this semester, don't take Fitz. This is a very hard course and Fitz's section is the hardest. BUT you will learn more than the other sections of 385 will. You will learn CSR which will differentiate you. Prepare for class, participate, get to know your group and start working with them early on the project. I got an A.
The material in this class is very interesting and this is one of the few business classes I had that I actually looked forward to going to. As long as you read the material and meet with your group regularly you will do fine.
If your lazy and like classes you can blow off and still get a good grade this is NOT the class or professor for you! But if you enjoy thought-provoking and insightful discussions with your peers, moderated by a whimsical professor who allows ( and occasionally encourages) the flagrant abuse of profane language, you've come to the right place!
This is a professor who cares about what he teaches and cares about the knowledge you retain. This course changed my outlook personally, professionally, and scholastically. This will not be an easy course and it will require work and thought.Be prepared to attend, participate, and enjoy one of the most fruitful experiences of your college career.
I had to take the class, and im glad that i did!! Fitz cares about the knowledge that he will pass on, he is open to new ideas, he will actually listen to you and think about what you'll say. And believe me You will remember him too, for everything that he said for every pin that he had on..
This class is not easy, but it is totally worth it. Fitz honestly cares about changing the way his students look at business and makes you look at what matters most and what sort of change YOU can make! Great class, great professor. DO NOT expect to blow off work or not read. You will not do well. He gives you fair warning up front though.
Take this class! You will learn more in this course than all of your college classes combined. Go to class, read, speak up, start the project early, and work hard. This will be the most beneficial class you will ever take. If not for you - take it for your future children. Most impacting class I have ever taken.
If you are a student that is serious about your education, do yourself a favor & take this class. Fitz is passionate about his teachings & you will forever be impacted! This class is not easy. You will have to dedicate a lot of time to studying & reading. It is a lot of work, however, the end result is knowledge that will stay with you a lifetime.
Not an easy class. Takes dedication and some good luck with what partners you get for the project. But if you can get past that it will open your eyes to some pretty interesting things. I didn't really pay much thought to subject matter until I took the class. Now I seem to think about it in my every day life more than any other class I ever took.
arguable the most passionate teacher in this university. interest in the subject matter makes it so easy to see how relevant, truthful, and important this info is. It really inspired me, and its not only the information that I am taking away form this class, but its also the way of thinking. If you can TAKE THIS CLASS. ITS WORTH THE EFFORT!
This class will provide students the opportunity to acquire an understanding of the world around them, and provides information on where the future of the world is heading. I would highly recommend this class to a student that truly wants to learn something that they can immediately apply in their life. It's difficult, but worth it once you're done
This is not an easy course, but well worth the reward for the hard work you put forth. IF education is important to you & what you take away from school, then don't miss this opportunity. Fitz is the best professor I had in my entire college experience. He inspired me, believed in me, pushed me, & brought out my talents I didn't even know I had!
Fitzgibbons is a very passionate and knowledgeable teacher. He will more than likely open your eyes to a completely different way to do business. He tends to be very liberal in is point of view, but he is open to (and encourages) counter arguments. You will work hard to get your grade in this class and participation/attendance is a must.
I had Fitz in 2000, and now am a business professor myself. I'll never forget the lessons he taught us about corporate social responsibility. He changed the way I viewed businesses and also influenced how I teach my classes. He made me feel that I could work for a big organization and still make a difference, and now I am.
Please, whatever you do, STAY AWAY! I have a 3.5 gpa and this guys class is very hard. He gives out way so much outside reading that you will lose your mind. He acts as if this is your only class and you do not have any other priorities in life. Quizzes almost everyday. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
I had Fitz a few years ago, after taking his class I learned a few useful things. He graded the group project pretty hard and gave us tons of homework. We had many quizzes on a lot of material. This class was very time consuming. I heard there are better professors out there than him. Just trying to help!
If you're looking for a class to really open your eyes, take 385 with Fitz. The guy's class is going to help you understand the world you are living in,and keep you better informed.Worst part is the project, which you just need to start early.Otherwise its just interesting articles and discussion! So trust this anonymous source and choose Fitz already!
The best choice that I made in my college career was to take Fitzgibbons for MQM 385. The course is relevant and interesting. If you love your education you will really enjoy this course. It is hard work but rewarding at the end. I still think about the topics and material covered in class. GREAT CLASS!
Great professor and you will get your monies worth by taking this course with Prof. Fitz. To succeed in the course, be organized, take good notes, start the project early, and speak in class. Do not take other MQM 385 professors because they are too easy and you will leave ISU unenlightened. Take Fitz He is not unreasonable; this is college people!
This by no means is an easy course, however it is one of the most beneficial courses in the COB. Fitz expects a lot out of his students, but he will help you succeed in any way possible. Take notes, READ the articles, and start the project EARLY and you should not have a problem. You will see things in a new way after a semester with Fitz!
This class truly makes the COB a better school. You can't just go through the motions with this class. Heads up: save EVERYTHING. you'll need it all later in the semester. But this class is awesome. He loves his job and it shows.
When you are choosing a professor for MQM 385, ask yourself if you would rather do little to no work and learn nothing or work extremely hard and learn more than you've ever learned in a class before. If the answer is the second one, take Fitz.
This class is a lot of work, but he keeps it interesting. The material is relevant and it will help you. He is always available to answer any questions so don't be afraid to ask for help.
Only for those who are interested in the subject material and want challenge. Additionally, if you take the class be prepared to read about an hour a day ALL five days a week and be prepared to spends days working TOGETHER to complete to final paper. The final paper is comprehensive review of all the all the class principles Worth it I had 18 hours
One of the best classes that challenged me! Work my butt off and learned the meaning of TEAM WORK. You must have good writing, communication, and leadership skills to do well in his class. Visit him and keep him up to date with what's going on with you. Communicate with your team. Speak up and often. Read the articles. Start that project now.
Great professor. You really haven't learned until you have had class with Fitz. Class discussions are engaging and bring new insights to what's happening in the real world. Exams are tough, but as long as you build a solid relationship with your teammates and meet regularly to complete the project, you will get the grade you deserve in the class.
originally when finishing Fitz' class, i was relieved to never have to see him again bc i thought the class was so unfair based on the coursework and time involved. now a semester later, i can truly say i got more out of this class than any other ive ever taken. Not easy in the least bit, but the class will change how you see the business world
The material is relevant and the classroom discussions are interesting. Easily one of the best professors and courses I took at ISU. I highly recommend his course!
Really good dude and teacher. Makes you work hard, but you learn a vast amount in this class.
If other business professors at ISU were half as engaged and genuinely interested in student growth and success as Fitz, then the ISU business school reputation could compete with U of I. I wish other business courses at ISU required the contributions that Fitz expects from his students. For those of you just wanting to graduate, move along.
I wish I had more than 350 characters to explain all the things I didn't like about this class. I trusted other RMP reviews and took this class because I enjoy a challenge, but ended up with a frustrating semester studying sustainability alone, and ignoring other aspects of strategy. Fitz is the only professor I had that I truly didn't like.
This is not an easy class, but you'll gain a lot of useful knowledge for the business world. TIPS - Keep up-to-date with news, Read Everything, Reread Everything. Rough teacher but likes to argue, so you can argue your point back on assignments and tests.
Fitz is a very smart guy and he expects a lot from you. IT's essential to show up to class and get an early start on the final project or you will surely fall behind. Take him and you will learn more than you could have imagined about corporate social responsibility and management tactics. A challenging, but rewarding class!
Here I am, 6 years later reviewing Fitz. I took his class Fall Semester 2008. I hated that class while I was in it, but it has seriously, seriously helped me in my professional life. He teaches you to think critically and communicate intelligently. I use those skills every day at work.
Prefers to be called Fitz rather than Dr. Fitzgibbons, but runs the class as if it is a dictatorship as he is quite close minded. Though he has great ideas with respect to CSR, his overall ideas can become clouded due to his loss of touch with the business world.
Most valuable class I took at ISU. Though it required a great deal of effort, I gained a great deal of knowledge from Fitz. He doesnt teach conventional business, rather, new and more relevant material about sustainability and how to incorporate it into the bottom line. If you want to learn something rather than get an easy A, this class is for you.
