Wants u 2 know 2much material 4 a single test.A lot of boring reading
very odd, but pleasant
If you want to learn greek mythology, take the class.
really hard class, but follow the presentations
Hard professor. Got an A . You have to work hard.

All UNCC students should take Greek Myth. The entiretey of all the tests are online at his website. Memorize the questions & answers and you get an A in the class. He doesn't take attendance, and you don't have to go to take notes. EASY A if you need it.
Ask questions about the passages because his exams are intense. You meet with him once a week. There are 4 grueling exams. You have to translate an English passage into Latin, so be on your game! I got an A in this class.
Good Professor-very interesting classes-can learn a lot.
SOooooo easy! all you have to do is memorize the questions online and never go to class. he is such a dork...i never thought i'd hear the phrase "post-coital relaxation" in a class. ever.
Easiest class ever! Don't really even have to go to class. Just memorize the questions on the internet site and look over his powerpoints. Easy A for little work!
Very awesome class! I learned so much. I would definately want to take another class with him.
Knowledgable professor but don't get on his bad side. Tried to fail me based on personal dislike of me.
Make sure you have an understanding for Latin before you take this class. Your really on your own. i will never take this class again
The class could be mostly taken online however professor sends a lot of mixed messages. Didn't enjoy the class but not as hard as some of the other lbst classes
this class is terrible! He rambles... Most people would think that when their teacher canceled class it was a good thing. Not with him. No class just means BORING online lectures. Do yourself a favor don't take this class.
4 tests and 1 final. All tests were done online, but blackboard is terrible. He posted all lectures on there as well, so attendance isn't really mandatory, but it helps. Class was about 200 students, so you never really get any direct answers from him through e-mail, but he kinda did compiled e-mails. Overall very easy class, B at the lowest.
If you love the Greeks or ancient history, this class will be great. If not, well... There was a LOT of material, but the tests were online and open-note, which made it bearable and, really, if you took good notes, they were easy. BUT, there were tech issues with the online tests, and he talked about maybe switching to paper tests next time.
this class is great! it is 100% online. you have control over every lecture. you can pause it to catch up on writing notes or anything like that. he knows what he is talking about and he is really nice.
If you take good notes, you will do fine on the exams. Easy to get along with, offers second chance exams, and knows his material. Will help in any way possible.Only problem is technical issues with the internet, otherwise recommended.Focus on Greek history. Can pause lectures, and he offers reviews within lectures. No purchase of books necessary.
Very interesting and enjoyable teacher. Class is absolutely mandatory but hey your paying for it. Quizzes every class, helps you learn material. Grading is based on daily quizzes and one final exam. Latin is not for everyone but it is a very fun class and as long as you attend class and do your work you will do well in the class. You cant skip!
I loved this class. There was no textbook that had to be bought. Grote is funny and will answer any questions. There is a lot of material, but lectures are on a CD, and you can pause and rewind. Coming to class is a must bc of quizzes daily. Watched Troy and movie 300 in there. Def worth going to class. Great guy to teach it!
Nice professor but tests were very challenging and his online lessons not totally clear. Had to buy a cd from him personally and then you heard the doorbell ring, phone ring, dog in the background. Not sure I would take him again
I really didn't like him too much. The lectures are SOMETIMES interesting but I found myself having to force myself to pay attention. The tests are easy though, they are online and the questions come from a website you study from. So it's basically like you're taking the test when you're studying. I won't take him again.
This class was so boring but you really don't need to go. All lectures are online as well as the tests. There are study guides online for every test and as long as you print them out and use them you're going to pass because the questions are exactly the same. Some tests you need the lectures for but maybe two at the max. Take him for an easy A.
I really enjoyed Grote. I emailed him to ask him questions and he emailed back so I felt like I could talk to him if I had to. Tests are all online so you can take them before taking them as a grade. The material was also interesting and the class was big and you could fall asleep if you're tired but it's very interesting. I loved it.
So i went to two classes this whole semester, his lectures are completely online in a power point, some of them are tedious, but if you do the study questions online its identical to the online tests and you will do fine. easy A
greek mythology: he was a great teacher and pretty amusing as well. a lot of people were complaining about failing the tests but that's becasue they didn't go to class (DUH.)it's hard studying but the class is interesting and fun if you're up to the challenge
BE ready to work! Listen ask and work on it everyday even if its 15 min. But other than that it was pretty awesome.
Easiest A I've gotten here at college.Never went to class and just look over his notes online and your good
This class wasn't bad but the tests were hard. Your grade is based on 4 exams, 1 quiz, and a final and that's it. There is a ton of information you have to learn.
This man is a genius. I took his Latin class and it changed my life. And he's funny too! I can't think of a better way to start the day than sitting in on one of his lectures.
Took class online. Very boring lectures. Could not stand to stay awake, but then again I also hate the subject. Difficult tests and no mercy for technical issues. Very clear though.
Extremely easy class! 1 essay and a quiz every week, still very easy. Professor loves the book so much that he created a website(the web address is on the syllabus) Professor uses the study guides on the website (exact questions) for every test. Do those, print and have in front of you for the weekly test and you will get an A. Essay part not hard.
i TOOK HIS ONLINE CLASS! VERY EASY!!! QUIZ EVERY WEEK! NOT THAT BAD! THE OVERALL AVG FOR YOUR GRADE IS BASED ON ALL THE QUIZES. TEST ARE BASED ON THE STUDY GUIDE FROM THE WEBSITE HE GIVES YOU. NOT HARD!
Very easy class! An easy A. Tests based on the study guide from the website he gives you. Essay not really harg, but you will need to think a little. I would take him again.!
On-line tests get harder and harder. On-line course is hard ghen you have technical difficulty and u can't change your answers on the final as u go thru it. It's 75 q's in 75 min on the whole course.
This guy is awesome. He is very funny and gave easy quizzes, no final. I'm taking him for Latin 1202.
This was the internet course. Easy at first but got very hard with the last two exams. Final was just as hard. He's extremely clear about how you are graded. I would take it him again but now know I would have to study 2x more to get an A
Awesome teacher. He has great communication if you need help. Lectures are boring, but tests are easy. You just have to remember to do the online stuff, don't take if you are lazy.
Online Western History Class for Greek subject. He was very clear throughout! Lectures are dry. Exams did get harder, don't let the first one fool you. He likes to see consistency!! I got a zero on one test because I didn't make it home on time. I didnt even email him. No papers, or discussions. I would take him again! Very fair!!!!!
Took his online course for Western History and culture. Very clear on what material needs to be learned for his tests. Some of the material could be boring at times, but the majority was interesting.
Had greek online class. Very labor intensive, yet interesting. Be prepared to put just as much work into the online course as would in class. Funny guy though. Not an easy A by any means. Take a lot of notes from online lectures.
He is fun and will keep the class very entertaining. He has a habit of going off on tangents and they are ussually funny. He does use the text book alot, but he has online materials that make it so you dont have to use the book. He will work with you to make your grade better, if you participate in class.
His online Greeks class is hard to keep up with if you're not good at managing your time. It's kind of hard, the amount of lectures and the hardness of the exam increases throughout the semester. If you take good notes you should be okay, but it's not just an easy A. His lectures can get pretty boring, but I did learn a lot about ancient Greece.
Interesting class sometimes but boring sometimes also. Goes a little fast through power points. Pay a lot of attention to details and take good notes. Good teacher but be prepared for long readings on top of lectures.
Took his online class on the Greeks. Lectures are very informative and specific, so be sure to take notes on what he says, not just what's written on the slides. Does a great job of relating historical events to modern pop culture. Expect to do a lot of reading and taking a lot of notes on the lectures.
I have taken this class online and I have enjoyed the material but the professor's quizzes are a bit vague in my opinion. He's more interested in if you remember HIS opinion rather than encourage you to think for yourself. I asked him for help and instead all he would do is try to insinuate that I wasn't doing the work (I read every day).
Took his online Greek course. Lectures seem so long even though they're usually about 20-40 min. The exams get harder and harder and they are very specific to what was says in his lectures so you do have to pay attention. He's very clear though and makes it easy for you to understand it. You have to take a ton of notes. Not an easy A.
Took Greek Lit & Culture online. He is very specific with spelling and images that he gives in his lectures so take good notes. Once you learn his method, the class is a breeze. I never once opened the book. Easy B if not A.
I took his online Greek class. The first two tests were easy: write down time periods and draw simple pictures with descriptions. Third and 5th exams were much harder and more specific, based on the reading. Go by what he says as well as the power point. The final was almost twice as long with only 30 minutes extra time than the exams. Be prepared!
Took his online Greek class for liberal studies. Fairly easy tests if you take especially good notes and read the online readings. No textbook required. One quiz, four tests, and a final. Would take him again.
Took his online greek course. Super easy IF you take good notes. Ends all emails with "Grote out." Seems like a cool guy.
I entered this class as an elective thinking I was going to learn about Greek mythology in a fun but educational way. Mr. Grote goes into far too much detail on each subject that it takes the enjoyment out of the class. My advice is to watch the lectures and highlight in the book, pay close attention to the pictures! Pics are about 50% of quizzes
I absolutely love this class and I usually HATE online classes. The material is easy to understand and Mr. Grote is a fantastic teacher. If you think this is a Disney-like Greek Myth then try another class. Listen to the lectures, pay attention to the pictures and spelling and you will do fine.
Grote has a way of teaching that is incredibly interesting and exciting! You can tell that he knows what he is talking about, and is excited about the material. It is a lot of material but if you listen to the lectures and pay attention to the pictures you'll do well. There are no papers just quizzes and the lowest is dropped. I highly recomend it!
He keeps the lectures interesting. Says some really random, but hilarious things in lectures sometimes. I enjoy listening. I didn't really use the book, but you definitely need to watch the videos/lectures.
If you read the chapters you can skip the first two lectures, then just watch the third and see him talk to himself about pottery. The resolution on the online lectures is terrible; leave it default sized and it's nearly too small to read, fullscreen and it's too blurry. Also, seems a bit too interested in beastiality aspects of classic mythology.
I was excited about learning Greek mythology, but I feel like I didn't learn very much. Listen to his lectures or you will fail the quizzes. Read the book and highlight important things. THE PICTURES ARE IMPORTANT FOR THE QUIZZES. He sounds like he knows his stuff though.
If you like Greek mythology you will love this course. He knows is stuff and is enthusiastic about it. There is a LOT of information in the lectures so take good notes and pay attention. Quizzes are tough.
Great class! Watch the videos, skim the book. Know the pictures, they always make up good bits of the test. He kept it interesting, but remember this is mythology, things get pretty creepy, but that's the beauty of it.
Pretty good class! Grote is clearly very interested and knowledgeable about Greek mythology. It's a lot of information, so be sure to pay close attention to all of the lectures and you should do fine.
He is an excellent professor. He gives a rich oration with his lectures and his reviews are more than helpful. To succeed in his class all you have to do is pay attention. His test aren't meant to trick you and he's straight forward. Just listen.
Dr. Grote is an awesome professor. Taking his online Greek myth & lit class right now which consists of listening to his online lectures and a quiz every week. Make sure you listen closely to his lectures and read the chapters. If you do that, you should pass with no problem. It is a lot of material but Grote makes it interesting.
Grote is a decent teacher although he can be very fast. Sometimes he thinks we can write a thousands words per minute the way he changes slides. Must pay attention to everything especially pictures.
This was his online class on the Greeks. It was very difficult. I studied for many hours each week and still only came out with a B. The content is relatively dry for the most part, a few interesting bits to keep you motivated. Five exams and one quiz make up 100% of your grade, so don't mess them up! Very hard and time consuming.
The class is fairly easy B if u take good notes. Very hard to get A even if you spend lot of time studying due to some tricky question on test and large amount of material covered. If you don't phrase a question to his liking or use slang he wont answer it. Overall,it ia good class and I learned a lot about greek history
He is a very effective professor. The class is very challenging but if you work work hard you'll pass. You will have to know all of the tricks to learning Latin by studying hard and talking with Dr. Grote when you don't understand something.
I LOVE DR. GROTE!!!! I have taken both of his LBST courses (Greek myth and Greek Lit) both are great and extremely informative. He and his classes are the reason I am a Classical Studies minor! Excellent teacher..will be taking his Modern Greek next semester as well!
DR. Grote's lecture on Greek Mythology is very intense but he explained all the material very clearly. Make sure to pay attention to his pictures and the comments he makes about the material. I learned a great deal about Greek culture based on their mythology through Dr. Grote's class. I would highly recommend him if you are interested in Greece.
Dr. Grote was very knowledgeable on the Latin language and explained how to understand it very clearly. Watch his lectures that he posts online, read the material in the book, ask questions if you don't understand, and you will do well in the course. It won't be an easy "A" but you will be able to read Latin by the end of his course.
I started out not caring for Greek Myth, but Prof. Grote makes it interesting. Quizzes every week based on power points and book reading. Questions can be tricky so you have to pay attention. If you don't like to read or put in a lot of time, AVOID this class. If you work really hard, an A is possible. Overall, Prof. Grote was a great prof!
Answers emails pretty quick. Material is easy, just read all the notes and watch all the videos online and stuff. The tests are straightforward and he makes it clear what you need to know. Loved the class and I would take it again definitely.
Online LBST. He provides the textbook for the class online. His lectures were very beneficial and interesting. Chapter quizzes were due every week. Hes very helpful and is willing to look over your own notes to make sure you have everything to do well in class. Watch the lectures & skim through the chapters and you'll do fine in the class.
I liked the class. Definitely listen to the lectures and read. All of his quizzes are structured in the same manner and he's really forgiving about issues with Moodle. This is my second class with him- he always seems really interested in the lectures and has some good stories every now and then.
Pretty easy professor, even gave us answers during the test! He has a good sense of humor and is really personable.
This is the 2nd class I've taken with Grote. He is an amazing professor that really cares about his students. He is very flexible with students. You can tell he is really passionate about his teaching. This was the first time he's taught this course. Weekly quizzes based on textbook chapters and quizzes. Overall, easy A if you put in the effort.
One of the absolute best professors I've ever had. Absolutely amazing lectures, amazing humor, charming, endearing, attractive. The man is basically LEONARDO!
For the online class, there were a lot of lectures and you must actually LISTEN and PAY ATTENTION and take GOOD NOTES to pass. However, if you just put in the effort, it's very possible to get an A. More importantly, the lectures were very informative and often quite interesting! He's very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches.
Great online LBST on history of Constantinople. Dr Gs lectures make learning lots of info in short period of time very interesting. To do well on weekly chapter quizzes you must to listen to lectures, read online text and take good notes. Very knowledgeable about what he teaches. Appreciate he answers emails promptly. Would definitely recommend!
I wouldn't say this class was "difficult", the only tough part was you literally had to write down every word he says in his lectures just to pass the quizzes, that was the only way I could pass them. So an hour lecture equaled a good 2.5-3 hours just taking notes (stopping the lecture and writing down notes etc)
His lectures are the worst thing ive ever dealt with. They are all pictures and no words. He believes that pictures are the key to remembering. With his exam, you take it from a projector screen while he scrolls through each question. Every class I wanted to rip my head out because of how annoying his powerpoints were. Class is fairly easy though
I took the online version of this class and at first I thought it was semi-easy but now his tests are getting ridiculous. You have to watch between 3-7 hours worth of videos that are kind of interesting. But his test questions are like in this lecture when zues&hercules fight, who's side did I take? Failed my first college test in this class.
Fun class. The material is hard but Dr. Grote takes it slow and helps you along the way. Great teacher, I would take more of his classes. He's extremely smart and it's obvious that he loves history! He is very chill and accommodating. Looking forward to more classes with him.
Scatterbrained is the first word that comes to mind. Easy going guy, but the lectures didn't make much sense. It was easy enough though. Taught this section in parts with 3 different professors. Clicker questions daily for participation. If you study your notes you should be fine. Made an A.
Dr Grote is so funny and outgoing. He loves to teach and it shows! However he really likes to use ONLY PICTURES as notes and it does get annoying but it can help you remember more. Daily clicker questions for points from readings/notes! Go to class, listen, do the clicker questions, take the tests, you'll pass.
Grote loves to teach but his teaching method is not so good. He uses picture and believes the key to remembering information is through picture, this actually made it more difficult to remember. The class is very easy though and he cares about his students.
In the online class, you listen to many lectures and take a quiz every week. The quizzes are very detailed in the questions asked. They are not on the main subject, but rather many facts that have no relevance compared to the overall picture. You must take notes from lectures word for word & take notes on every single thing in the book to get a A.
Professor Grote, was clearly passionate about the subject matter and it showed. It was a new installation when I took the class so it was a little bumpy at first. But I learned a lot. His recorded lectures are about an hour long and are Necessary to pass any quizzes or exams. He was extremely tough on spelling in open questions on quizzes
The only grades in this online class are quizzes. If you spell something wrong, it's incorrect and he wont take it no matter what. Sometimes the lectures can be 3-4 hours long. Need to take notes to actually understand what is going on. A lot of his questions come directly from the lecture and also the textbook. Difficult class, but not impossible.
This course was online and his lectures are super long (most of the time) and boring. He is very redundant in his lectures and goes off topic which makes the lectures longer than it needs to be. The book can be helpful but I barely used it. You HAVE to listen to the lectures to pass the quizzes. Easy A but he is too much of a headache for me.
The online class wasn't terrible. You must pay attention to his never ending, very boring lectures, that you have to pay for. That is the only way you will pass the class. It is not an easy A. but can be done.
I took professor Grote's class online, I really enjoyed this class. He is clearly passionate about the material he is teaching which makes it easy to understand. If you take notes and watch all the videos you should get a good grade.
I took this class online because I heard it was an easy A, which it was. However I held an A the entire semester and finished the class with a 94 and when he sent out an email to look at our final grades in banner he had given me a B for no reason and refuses to review it or fix it. Final as optional so my grade should not have changed at all.
This class was the biggest waste of time. He has recorded himself and expects you to buy his lectures that are six hours a piece. I take several pages of notes and with all the information it is so hard to study for the exams. There is no homework to help boost your grade, he only offers five quizzes. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
After looking at reviews on here, I thought this was going to be an easy class. Boy was I wrong. Lectures are so freaking long and the class is only of you watching his lectures and taking quizzes that have questions on material that are barely taught. Don't recommend this class unless you absolutely love mythology.
Watch lecture videos and take quizzes. Easy as that. Take notes on the quiz and make note of the images that appear and you will be fine. Extremely easy.
Such an amazing professor, you can tell he loves what he does, I took this class online and it was a great course to take online, he reminds me of like the professors from tv shows with the relaxing voice I dont know how to explain that but I do recommend this course!
Dale is such a great professor! With Covid, he has been very lenient and flexible with the schedule of the class. He also makes the information fun, easy to learn and is truly a gem. If you have the chance, take his class!
Pretty chill class. If you listen to your lectures for the week and read over text book, can easily get an A in the course. Cool guy too
Best class of the semester. Listen to the lectures, take notes, review, and pass the tests. Lectures are interesting and he's a funny guy. Class is done at your own pace, so you can knock out several lectures/tests over a weekend. Pay attention and study spelling; you'll have at least 1 fill in the blank question each test and spelling counts!
This overall is a good class. It is graded based on 5 tests (1 after each unit). I enjoyed learning a little bit more about Greek history and Greek mythology. There are a lot of time consuming lectures to watch and the Iliad to read. He uses lockdown browser for the quizzes but only watches the screen. No microphone or video camera is required.
worst prof ive taken. never answered emails and doesn't care about you loll
You can tell by the way he sets up his canvas that he doesn't want to change anything once it's published. He wants to make sure you're taking the right quiz bc he will not let you take it again if you took the wrong one or even if there is a tech issue. Lockdown browser and recorded lectures are really long. Some quiz questions are super specific.
Class is based only on Quiz grades which is a pain. Lectures can sometimes be very long or very short depending on the subject. That being said the Quizzes are very easy and tailored to the lecture/Book Chapter. Some questions are very specific . 1 Quiz is dropped. Fun Class if you enjoy learning about Greek figures.
Like the guy, but the feedback was not good. Lectures could get boring at times, depended on the topic for me. A lot of rambling, recommend 2x speed watching them. Grade based on unit quizzes and one final. Make sure to open the quizzes once you're ready, bc there is time limit and the questions can be very specific. I'd go for an easier option.
