I went from getting a "D" in a pre-calculus class in high school to getting an "A" with Mr. Hoffman. He was clear, fair, and made things easy to understand, unlike my HS teacher. I would absolutely recommend him!
EASY didn't show up for class and still got an A
He makes math fun and easy.
Great professor!
Good teacher, makes math easy. Tests and quizzes are easier than the homework, dosn't try to trick you or throw curveballs. Highly recommended!
He makes you peaceful when you listen to him! What is better than listening to peaceful math! Brilliant math professor. Math becomes a fun subject for those of you that hate math.
I have taken two courses with Hoffman and can honestly say I enjoy calculus! He does an amazing job simplifying the material and keeping class interesting. I would highly recommend him for everyone but expecially to someone who might be a little leary on continuing onward with math.

Long tests
Mr. Hoffman is professional, fair and talented. Classes are focused and interesting. Recommended.
Very clear and friendly.
Dale is a very helpful, well organized and professional instructor. His exams are always to long for the time allowed but the material is not that difficult if you can do it in time.
Mr. Hoffman is a great instructor. He explains things clearly and he obviously loves his job. He doesn't mind "stupid" questions. Hoffman really wants you to understand 100%! His tests are rather hard but they make you think. I wish I could get him next quarter. I give him my highest recommendation.
He lets you ask questions and he explains slowly and clearly until you get it.
Professor Hoffman is one of the best as well as friendliest teachers I have had. He is understanding, helpful, and never rude or condescending. The homework is optional and the quizzes and tests are reasonable. If math is a difficult subject, he is definately the professor to help.Highly recommended
LONG TESTS! very clear, organized lectures. makes you really understand the material. recommended.
Best teacher for the math hater. Dale will help you to love math. He makes hard math concepts so easy its amazing. If you can manage to get a class with him then by all means do it...you will be in for a real treat!!!
A great math teacher. I like how he uses different color markers to help clarify the math problems. His tests and quizes are straight-forward and fair. I would definately take a math class with him again.
GREAT math teacher. I hate math and i didn't get some of the material, but i think that was my fault. he made class fun, and clearly put stuff on the board he uses diff colored markers. if you go during office hours he will spend as much time as you need to get it. he actually wants you to learn.
NICE GUY
Mr. Hoffman could teach a cucumber vectors and sine waves and then pass it off as a math Ph.D. Come to class every day, take notes, DON'T MISS QUIZZES OR TESTS!, and you'll be fine (There are no make-up quizzes or tests). Anyway, best math teacher ever. :D

easiest math class ever. very clear, takes questions. doesnt move on until everyone on same page. very helpful.
Mr. Hoffman is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. He is very interested in math, and he truly wants you to learn it. He explains everything very clearly, and you can always ask questions and he will explain them until you fully understand. He uses many different color markers to make things easy to read, and he *always* has a smile on his face.
What an amazing prof! He explains things so clearly and is so helpful. You can tell that he loves his job. He makes class really interesting. His old quizzes and tests on his website are a huge help. I'd definitely recommend taking a class from him if you have the chance to.
This guy is awesome. One of the most laid back teachers that I have ever had. Test are long, but all but the last few problems are easy if you can do the homework. I would highly recommend him if you want to actually enjoy going to class!
This was a fun class because it was ridiculously easy. In a hard week, he might give out 20 minutes worth of homework. He teaches really well, too. His lectures were laconic, it only showed formulas. He didn't drone on like most teachers do with a gazillion examples.
Excellent! I had 120 from him too and he's the best ever. He's funny, helpful, nice, and doesn't assign huge amounts of homework. As long as you practice the problems and try the practice quizzes on his website, you'll be fine. Yay for Mr. Hoffman!
GREAT teacher! He is very understanding and will help you if you have questions or difficulties. His teaching style is understood by everyone. You cannot miss class, nor zone out (as in any math class) and it helps to do the online quizzes and tests before the test date. He has a passion for math and his tests are always fair. No tricks.
Freaking awesome! Good at teaching concepts and ideas. Good tests and quizzes. Very sataisfied.
Very articulate, enthusiastic about his work, willing to help people who are interested in learning.
i have never seen anybody so coordinated with markers ever. he is really good at explaining things clearly. in terms of explaining ideas he is the best ever
He's just the best math instructor I've ever had. He makes everything look easier. He's awesome. I highly recomend him!!!
This guy rocks and is funny. If you do the work and practice you should have no problem passing this class. Taking him for math 125 in fall. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Dale Hoffman is to math as Christopher Walken is to cool. Dale Hoffman may be almost as cool as Christopher Walken but we all no that no one is cooler than Christopher Walken. Ok, insanity aside, I really have a hard time with math but taking 227 with Hoffman resulted in learning the most math I have ever learned in one quarter. He is the best.
World's best teacher, math or otherwise. I took him for the the whole calc. series and math 120, and loved every single class. Come to class and practice a lot, though, because the tests are kind of hard and long. But I learn more in his classes than in any other class, ever.
Awesome teacher. This guy really knows what he's doing. Funny and focused, he makes math class a lot more interesting. Extra credit is built into every test and quiz. Mr. Hoffman really wants you to learn and teaches the material straight up. Take this class!
Great teacher! The only one who has ever done lectures in rainbow colors. Very clear in explanation and quite amusing at times, which helps to break up the monotony of the subject.
Mr. hoffman is really knowlegable. Thought I felt that his tests were alittle over done. Always puts in a problem that most likely will bring your grade down to a B. So you have to work for that A. Attending classes and doing hw b4 hand really helps. gl.
GOOD TEACHER
I have taken Hoffman for several classes. He is an incredible professor. He can teach calculus to anyone. His examples are clear. He is very smart. One of the best professors that I have ever had. If you have a chance to take one of his classes, do it.
Mr. Hoffman is the best math teacher ever! He is always willing to help, he gives a lot of worksheets to the class that really helped me understand the subject. He also explains things amazingly well and is very fair with all the tests/quizes and lets us see old ones to practice. I highly recommend him, he is very cool!!
He is really a great Maths instructor. You will learn a lot from his classed. If you are hard working on doing caculation, get an A is not that hard. He always give chances to students.
Very nice guy :D As long as you do the work and go to class, you should do well. He is very clear with his teaching style and answers any question a student will ask, no matter how dumb it may sound. Take his class.
Took Calculus from him, he used lots of colors on the whiteboard, it actually helped. He provides past quizzes and test Online, use them and you will know what you need to work on. He gives ample opportunity to ask questions.
Although I did not take his Differential Equations class at the actual college, our class was supposedly very similar to how it is taught at BCC. Either way, Mr. Hoffman is one of the coolest math professors I've ever had--his passion truly shines, and is essentially contagious during his "colorful" lectures.
He explains things very well and uses many colors on the white board to separate out different ideas. VERY USEFUL! Not that hard of a class, if you do the work. He also provides past tests and quizzes online to study from. One odd thing he may ask you to do is read biographies from mathematicians from the last 100 years. Not too boring though.
While his classes are complex, he teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand.
Hoffman does a good job of making calculus something you can genuinely understand. As others have stated, he uses lots of colors on the board to make the various parts of a problem easy to identify. He likes to throw tricky questions on the tests but practicing lots of problems will definitely help. His off-beat humor also helps liven things up.
Lectures to are easy to keep up with and understand. As with any math class, loads of homework. I wouldnt say he throws tricky questions in, but you do have to know the material. The test question will apply everything you learn in class, but to a different scenario, takes some thinking but its not too bad.
he is the best! I took 124 and 125 with him. Clear explanations but you won't get an A if you don't do the work! Only problem is that that all other calc teachers suck after him!
Dale was a great teacher. He thoroughly explains the material from the text (that he wrote!) and goes over what you can expect on the tests. He does make special considerations (like if you're improving) when he makes the final grades, but the first thing he'll look at is the final to determine what grade you should walk away with.

Best math teacher I ever had. Had him for 126 and 227. He's great at explaining things and really helps you to understand the material. Homework wasn't required except for the Maple assignment. If math is important for your major, take as many classes as you can with Hoffman.
I didn't think he was very fair. His exams were very different from the homework problems. He lets you look at old exams on his Web Site, but he gives no key. I also found his exams to be unreasonably too long, and he never gave students enough time to complete them. He is good at explaining topics. The final exam was a nightmare though.
he is the best.
words cannot describe my experience with Mr Hoffman. He is truly phenomenal and no doubt the greatest math teacher at Bellevue College. This place is lucky to have him. He is very fair and clearly explains concepts out of his book. If you want to learn and succeed in math, take Professor Hoffman.
actually Wanted to go to this class.
This guy is amazing; best math teacher ever. He explains difficult concepts clearly, and makes everything so easy to understand. If you do all of the recommended problems, the tests and quizzes will be easy. If you really want to understand math, take as many classes with Hoffman as you can; with him, math just makes sense.
I had him a few times. He is great for making sure you understand the material. He is more than happy to answer any questions. Sometimes he can tell some jokes, which relieves any tension. The downside is that he is not very personable, but man does he love to use many different colors on the whiteboard!
Very nice, educated professor. Certainly made me appreciate mathematics more. I really enjoyed his class.
Mr. Hoffman is hands down the best math teacher i have ever had. He explains things so well and is very patient. It seems as though we move at a pretty steady pace, and yet nobody is having a hard time. The average test grade on our last test (#3) was 82%. What more do you need having said that?
Oh dear what can I say about Dale? YES!!! he is a good teacher. No no no no no, he is a AWESOME MATH TEACHER!
Hoffman is such a WONDERFUL INSTRUCTOR. Attending class is the key for successful. He is funny and makes class never feel boring. He will give you old tests and quizzes, and your test will be exact same as the old one except number change. TAKE HIM!!!
You will be regret in the rest of your life if you don't take Hoffman's Class
Hard class, but definitely worth it! He's a really good teacher, but attendance is key to success in Hoffman's class. Also, make a study group to study for Hoffman's quizzes/tests! It'll help a lot!
He is an old guy but he knows his math. He will help you with anything and if you need to get up from class to leave, he understands. He is very patient and willing to listen. He also uses past quizzes and tests for the upcoming tests and quizzes. I highly recommend this teacher.
Very patient during explaining complex problems. Very nice personality. I like this class =)
Hard class, but a good grade is possible if you study hard. Tests were okay, but the final was NOTHING that we learned about in class. He tested us on how good we are in math and if we can solve problems with the knowledge we already have...
He's a really nice teacher who is into what he teachers. He tries to help you out and likes to crack jokes. But I don't get why he's rated "hot" because he looks like he's seventy!
good teacher! we have quiz every week, but they are easy. no home work, no attendant. 6 quiz, 3 test and one final. it looks a lot of exam, but it u pay attention in class, i will think they r easy
The most easiest class ever! You will regret not taking this class. He is a GREAT teacher and I don't know what people are saying about this class being hard, you guys just don't do your book work. Remember to do the book work he assigns you and do the previous quizzes and tests to help prep you for upcoming tests and quizzes!
I am so glad I dropped this class. Stuff he does in class is easy - test are horrible. Don't like his teaching style - not a good teacher. Nice person thou!
Enjoys math and teaching! Funny guy, clear in class. Always answers questions. Do the book hw, old test & quizes, and online problems and you will get a good grade!
Best math teacher I have ever had! Makes math enjoyable and keeps it interesting! I just got into the UW as a transfer student and my engineering-advisor made a comment on my good grades through Calculus which can be accredited to Hoffman. If you have to take math might as well make it worth your time. Hoffman is the man!
Hoffman is an excellent professor. His teaching is absolutely crystal clear. he is extremely helpful and makes sure that everyone understands the math. He's not a stick in the mud either. He keeps his class interesting, and you enjoy paying attention. Excellent professor.
Hoffman is seriously the best teacher out there! I took him for my whole calculus sequence. His lectures are spot on and he makes it easy for you to understand. He is one of those teachers that loves his job and it makes you enjoy class. He is very helpful and very funny. TAKE HOFFMAN'S CLASS :)
The best math teacher I have ever had! He actually makes math interesting if that's even possible. Very funny and genuinely cares. Pay attention in class and you're golden. There's no homework, and I didn't even study, but I got an A!
Very good professor. Information presenting clear, gives help if needed, even has old tests and quizzes to study off of. Highly recommended.
Awesome teacher! Use his online tests and you will be golden.
He just try to teach the old exams during his lecture and his mission is to teach you the old exams not the subjects. I don't recommend this instructor to somebody who wants to learn math not just get the good grade.
Calc 1 with Hoffman was easy because he gave us weekly quizzes to keep us on track, but he didn't do that for Calc 4 so I had to study a lot on my own. I think the book he wrote is confusing, and you have to be good at computer programming or the MAPLE assignments will take forever. He also gives out his old exams, but they're not always the same.
Hoffman teaches in a way that makes you understand how not only to use the concepts but how they work. He gives weekly quizzes that are fairly easy as I've aced every one so far, mainly due to the practice quizzes and tests he puts online. I make sure to read the textbook, but still perform very well in the class by not doing homework problems.
He is a very nice old guy. His class is easy and relaxed. He jokes a lot and funny questions about math. I really see he is the person who maintain the passion in math! Believe it or not, since he said"life is easy", my life really became easier. He respects students and very patient to solve problems. Not too many extra credits, but thats fine.
Best math teacher I've ever had. He is good on instruction and provides great examples in class and in handouts. My advice would be to form study groups with class mates and complete his practice tests/quizzes (he provides them online but without an answer key). Assessments are weekly, so study often. Good teacher, put in the effort!
The best math teacher. His practice quizzes and test are very helpful. Often they are exactly what's on the actual thing. He is open to answering all questions in class and gives examples.Provides lots of resources even thought homework isn't graded. You will actually want to do extra practice yourself if you plan to do well in the class. Funny guy
Professor Hoffman is a pretty interesting person. He really knows what he's talking about. The hw is optional which I never did this entire quarter. He color codes when he writes on the white board, which is surprisingly helpful. If you ask him to elaborate on ANYTHING, he totally will do it. He grades tough but fair.
This professor is GREAT! He is extremely outgoing and his enjoyment in teaching math is evident. Also has a nice sense of humor! Personally, I thought that math class was a breeze, no homework at all, consistently high test and exam scores. I also learned a lot in this class. I definitely recommend this professor for math.
When asked how the math applies to real world situations, he simply smiles and doesn't answer. Otherwise, pretty good professor.
Great teacher! I love math, and Hoffman has been my favorite teacher so far. Uses lots of colors on the board, always seems really happy, and he is a funny guy too! He uploads the old quizzes and tests to his website, so studying is super easy. I can't wait to take calc 4 with him next quarter! :D
Phenomenal teacher! His teaching methods are great, and he delivers the content in a clear and easy manner. His tests are also fairly easy, as long as one studies and reviews the practice tests.
Very enthusiastic teacher, and very good at explaining the concepts and techniques behinds the math. Puts up practice tests and quizzes that are almost identical to the real thing, so the tests aren't that bad. However, tends to dodge questions that he doesn't feel like answering, such as real-world applications.
Best math teacher ever! Very helpful, does problems on the board for students, great at explaining things, and hilarious too.
Dale is like the kindly old grandfather of mathematics: wise, tough, and fair. Tests can long, but a good assessment of your knowledge and abilities. Knows math, loves math, and communicates the concepts clearly and succinctly. He is also a ninja with the colored Expo markers, which makes everything he writes on the board super helpful.
very helpful teacher I strongly recommend to take his class
His book sucks and his teaching style is not that great. He does not prepare you for his tests. He has practice tests but they will not help you in passing his tests with a respectable grade. He has you do assignments using a program called maple with is a total waste of time and can consume hours of your time.I would recommend another teacher
Seriously? He has left me an unforgettable memory with multivariate calculus. He knows his materials really well, and had never left out anything confused. We also can apply all the knowledges we learned inside the class by using Maple. Tests are manageable, and maybe little challenging. But overall he is one of the best math. prof. I ve met.

Simply one of the best teachers I've ever had the privilege of learning from. Professor Hoffman is diligent, caring, has a multifaceted teaching strategy (which makes even the hardest cases able to anchor the info in their brains) and a great enthusiasm for his subject. His stories, style and approach may make you a secret math lover.
Pretty good teacher. He offers fair tests and puts tests and quizzes from previous years on his website so you can practice beforehand. Generally a nice teacher who occasionally tells jokes. The class mean was a B.
Hoffman is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's great at teaching concepts and his quizzes/exams are fair. As long as you do the practice quizzes/exams and do some problems from the book, you'll be fine. This class is a great example of "you get the grade you deserve."
He appears to have the ability to write things directly into my brain
First of all you will be blown away at how hot he is. He is the man i dream about every night. Looks aside, he is extremely knowledgeable in the subject, the book is easy to understand, and I would say I learned more in this class than any other class i have taken at BC. Fun teacher that makes you work for you grade.
Dale is extremely hot!!!His class is so organised and I think it is not a hard class cause he make it happen but make sure you study for it. I just thought it probably was an easy A and I did not work hard and I ended up having a bad performance on the final.
great great great TAKE THIS GUY!
Prof. Hoffman goes above and beyond his requirements as a professor! He is extremely helpful and always prepared to help his students learn and enjoy math. He is funny, wise, and simply wonderful! He writes his own textbooks and offers rewards for the keen students who catch errors. Take this professor, you'll love every day with him!!
Dale Hoffman has been one of my favorite instructors. He wrote the textbook he uses for this class and it's awesome! He has a passion for what he does that is infectious and inspired me to work hard in an extremely difficult course!
I liked Hoffman as a person, but he wasn't a compatible teacher for my learning style. He really emphasizes visualgraphic mathematical significance, which I don't care for. If you're more of an auditory learner, or just like to know the formulas, be ready to learn stuff on your own. His book helped me a little, so I'm glad I bought it.
Professor Hoffman makes the class really fun! The quizzes and tests aren't that bad if you study. Idk why the average grade is a C because everyone in my class had an A or B. There are no pop quizzes. Definitely would take again. You don't really need the textbook. What's awesome is that he grades and gives back quizzes and tests in a day.
Professor Hoffman makes the class really fun! Go to class for an easy A or B, you dont have to be good. My classes average was an A but the C average on the page as of Dec. 2014 is because of the slackers. Definitely would take again. You don't really need the textbook. What's awesome is that he grades and gives back quizzes and tests in a day.
Mr. Hoffman is an amazing teacher; he knows how to teach. Quiz and test problems are from the lectures. He answers questions and is more than happy to go over confusing problems. He shows respect to students and makes it clear what he expects from students. He provides lots of optional practice, like old quizzes and tests, that helps a lot.
pretty nice teacher, ask for help when you need, he is helpful! don't hesitate to ask ! sometimes his voice is slow. he also write his own textbook and his own website, google it and have a look.
Amazing professor, amazing lectures, and amazing class overall. The book he wrote is easy to read and helpful a lot. It's and easy A only if you study hard (like in any other course duh). He likes and talks about patterns. Maybe there is a patters for how he creates questions for quizzes and tests and what will be on it? Look into it!
Dale Hoffman is probably one of the most encouraging, dedicated, and inspiring math teachers I've had. He provides past tests and quizzes, which are basically what you'll be tested on. He has his books online for free. This is definitely not an easy class because of the material. It's not an easy A, but it's not impossible to get an A.
Amazing professor. He is really warm and funny. He is the best professor in BC!
A lot of homework, but if you do everything you can certainly expect a good grade!
Professor Hoffman is a really good professor. The textbook is one he wrote so the wording is consistent. He also provides lots of practice material. If you pay attention you will pass.
Believe the hype, yes, yes, he really is that good. Hmm.
Prof. Hoffman is a legend. He wrote the book and explains everything effortlessly. You will certainly come out of this class knowledgable on the subject matter. Homework is not mandatory but is encouraged, and the tests and quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class. Would very strongly encourage taking him- you will be happy you did.
He's a great teacher. I missed class at least twice a week and he recaps it all so well. Just be sure to go for review days, quiz/test days, and when he gives them back. Rarely any homework (make sure you do it). Read the textbook, practice problems. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Effortless learning. He's hecka funny and class is enjoyable.
Best math teacher I have ever taken. Super clear, precise and straight to the point. No wasted time in his class. Very respectful and an adorable old man. Use his old tests and quizzes to prepare for his exams, super helpful. The book needed for his class is available and free on his website. Really wish I discover this teacher sooner.
Dale was the best math teacher I have ever had. I especially liked his lectures. He only used the whiteboard and color coded things, which was very helpful. There were weekly quizzes, and he gives you his old tests/quizzes for practice. He was a very nice guy as well and very willing to help whenever.
His exams are exactly the same from practice exam, but its too long. He is old and cranky.
Great teacher, interesting lectures and really knows his stuff!
you will fail in his class only because of final exam. Exams were hard but ok, but the final make more than half of class drop to D's from A's. yes, it's happened to too many of student's. He is cranky and tired of everything including math. He seriously needs to be retired and make space for some other reasonable and alright teachers.
Expect a 10-15 point drop on your final grade relative to your exam grades. Essentially you need to ace the 3 exams and then you can get a B on the final and still get your A, otherwise it will be very challenging, because the final is much harder than the exams.
Please do not take his class. I usually do not complain about an instructor but if you care about your grades do not take him. The way he teaches is very confusing and sometime you'd get lost. He is a tough grader. He doesn't give partial credit for the work you have done correctly which brings your grade down. He also doesn't help in office hours.
The worst grader ever. He asks you to circle your final answer! It means he doesnt care your work, actually he is lazy to review your answer, if your final answer is correct you get full poins
Mr. Hoffman is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. His lecture is very clear and easy to understand. Although English is not my first language, I can understand his lecture very easily. He put the old quiz and tests online, which helped students to prepare for the quiz and tests.
Mr. Hoffman is the best teacher I have ever encountered. Part of that is 40 years experience, but part is understanding what it takes to help people learn and remember material. He throws his ego out the window and tunes every part of class to maximize student outcome.
Dale is the best! His lectures are intuitive and conceptual and always include interesting stories. I took 255 just to have a class taught by him. There is no mandatory homework, but his free textbook is useful if you are having a difficult time with something.
Dale is one of my favorite professors out there. He sure knows how to make students laugh. I could've done better in this class, but I still enjoy it and most importantly, I actually learned something in Calculus. He will post old quizzes and tests from previous quarters to help students to prep and review for the current quarter, which is helpful.
Take him if you really wanted to understand Calc 1 in depth visual-graphically. His class is beginners friendly, but his tests are a bit too long. Overall, this class is stress-free and the material aren't as heavy. I would take him again in future classes because his class is slow pace and he's funny.
Mr. Hoffman is an incredible teacher! He makes everything very easy to understand and really wants students to succeed. Lectures are clear, informative, and easy to follow. There is no graded homework, so prepare well for quizzes and tests. The textbook is unnecessary but it's cheap and the practice problems are nice to have. Highly recommend!
He is very nice
If you have the chance to take Hoffman definitely do. there are a few graded homeworks but not many (only like 3 for the quarter). There is a quiz or test every week, 6 quizzes and 3 tests and ur lowest quiz is dropped and the final replaces lowest test. Overall he is a great teacher and each week is consistent so you always know what to expect.
I took calc 1 with Dale and I have never had a better experience with a math teacher. He really wanted you to learn it and would slow down if you werent getting it. Also homework isnt required which is really nice. He has really clear expectations and gives you a good idea of whats on tests and quizzes! Im quite sad he doesnt teach Calc II
His way of teaching calc 4 gave me a very good intuitive understanding of gradient fields, level curves, etc, the stuff that really matters if you plan on taking math 255 (vector calculus)
Honestly the best math teacher I've had and he is a breath of fresh air at these upper level math courses. He gives a bit of extra credit. There are three tests and one final. The final score can replace one of the test scores. He has old tests as practice on his website which you can google and he just manipulates the numbers to create new tests.
Great teacher, conceptual course
He is a good teacher, but his tests has things that do not reflect the course work. I have gotten straight A's until his class. Math has always been easy for me. Maybe he is just getting too old, but his style of teaching is not for me.
Great choice for a Calc teacher! Evident passion for teaching, creates supplementary material like worksheets and study guides before each test. The final is harder than the tests, but its not as bad as the other reviews claim it is. The class average for my quarter was an 82%, and I got a 94%, which is consistent with my other test scores.
Dale Hoffman is my favorite math teacher. His style of teaching is very intuitive and conceptual. Uses diagrams and models to help you understand the concepts. Tests can be hard but he prepares you well with practice tests and worksheets. The final is only a tiny bit harder than his normal tests. Phenomenal during office hours as well.
Hoffman is an AMAZING math teacher! If you have the chance, be SURE to take him. If you attend class and pay attention you'll have no problem getting a good grade. He is very helpful and makes the exams very achievable - he even posts practice exams on his website that students can use before the test. This is the best math class I have ever taken!
His tests/quizzes are fair because they are very alike to the old ones which he posts on his website. Say goodbye to using the internet for math help because the types of problems he uses can only be found in his textbook (which was not helpful for me). His class is not overtly difficult, but very frustrating.
Dale Hoffman is a legend at BC. He's funny, approachable, and has engaging lectures. I took his Calc 254 class last quarter, and he helped to build my foundation in mathematics. He even offered to write a recommendation letter for me. Make sure to do the practice tests and work all of the textbook problems, and you'll be fine.
Easiest higher level math prof at BC. Tests aren't bad if you practice his old tests and just memorize the process. Good lecturer and funny. I didn't learn as much in his class as others and was not a fan of the book used. My advice, if not going far in math and want an easier A, take him. If needing to apply math skills in future, don't.
Dale Hoffman is an excellent teacher who cares that his students learn the material. He is very clear in his lectures, and has great ways of explaining topics. His Calc 3 class had homework problems as optional (but do them if you need to), the occasional worksheet, and quizzes once a week. If you pay attention in class, it should be a breeze.
Very easy! No mandatory homework. All quizzes and tests from previous years are on his website, and they are nearly identical to the given ones. Easy extra credit point on every quiz/ test. Sweet old man.
Dont take him. His body is always blocking the dang board and u cant see a thing when hes writing and he barely explains what he is writing so you gotta wait like three hours for him to finally move before u can take notes. exams are so hard and he makes u read 3000 essays about historic people just 1 bonus point on a test. This aint english Dale
Great professor. His lectures were easy to understand. He has past quizzes and tests online, but he doesn't give the answer; you have to compare your work with other students or search it up online. His tests/quizzes are similar to the practice stuff he posts online so if you study and do the practice stuff, you should be fine.
Loved it. His lectures are color-coded, concept-focused, and easy exams. He posts his old quizzes and tests on his own website, which are pretty much identical to what you will see on the actual exams. Yes, there is an article that you could read for 12 extra credits. However, although you don't answer those questions, you still can get 100 so...
His expectations are clear from the beginning and if you pay attention, its an easy class. Hes an easy grader and will replace one of your tests with your final grade.
Clear expectations from day one and lectures cover a variety of topics. He posts old quizzes and tests from previous quarters for students to study, and offers extra credit points for reading certain articles and answering one or two questions on quizzes/tests. Very manageable teaching style.
Professor Hoffman is very straight to the point. Pays attention to what he writes on the board cause it is normally on the tests and quizzes. He is very sneaky with the questions. I think the key in his class is practice and read the book after or before the class. he is also flexible if something came up on the quiz day, as long as you communicate
Grade mostly based on 6 quizzes, 3 exams. Drops lowest quiz and replaces lowest exam grade w your final exam grade if it is better. 1-3 points extra credit on each test. Posts old tests from previous quarters for practice. I used to do problems from the book but the old tests give a better idea of what will be on tests. getting an A is possible
Mr. Hoffman explains the maths concepts very clearly and cares about his students. A very nice teacher. But don't be lazy, do the practice. He is really the legend of Bellevue College.
Mr. Hoffman is a very kind and caring professor who has a clear love for mathematics. His lectures are very straight forward and he wrote the dang textbook used in class (it's super cheap btw and available online for free!!!). Calculus is a very hard subject for me to comprehend and Mr. Hoffman does such a good job at answering all your questions.
Fantastic lectures with great visual and theoretical explanations. Three tests + 1 Final. Tests are long so do the practice exams (he posts old ones online). Do the homework he recommends, put in 7 hours a week outside of class and getting an A should be reasonable. Overall, funny, nice old guy with great lectures, fast-paced tests, but fair.
Professor Hoffman is the best math professor I've ever had. I took Calc 1-4 at BC & he's by far the best teacher. He explains everything really well and if you don't understand he'll explain it again until you do. He's very understanding and clear on what he expects for tests. He posts old exams online. Go to class everyday his lectures are amazing
Class examples were clutch and is very open to answering questions. Saves online lectures for later viewing and gives tons of resources to you. Held office hours almost daily. Had weekly quizzes or tests but always got you ready for them. old test / quizzes were very helpful! Solid professor! Would take again for sure.
Clearly lays out the course material, practice examples will prepare you well for the quizzes and exams, and holds office hours daily, everything a math class should be. 10/10
His lectures are clear. Only 30' lecture. You can rewatch the recording after class. He hold office hours every day. WAMAP helps your grade. As long as you watch lectures and do all practice quizzes and tests, you will be fine. 6 quizzes, 3 tests and maybe 1 final (it's an optional in this quarter). One of the best Math profs ever.
He is never absent; He is always there for help; His class is easy to understand; His requirements are clear to follow; His response is quick; He is passionate with his teaching career; He is an example for me!
