Hands down, worst professor I have ever encountered. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Get out while you can. I graduated highschool in AP calculus and I did terrible in this class. Teacher is the worst I have ever had
he was the worst teacher for sta 215. he knew it, but couldnt teach it. dont recomend him for anyone!
This teacher is horrible and that's actually giving him points! He's full of himself and loves to let students know how much better he is in life than everyone else.
Do not take this professor!! Nice guy, but could not teach a concept if his life depended on it. I am great at math and did a lot of work for this class and still got a D in the class!!!

This guy is the biggest jerk. Boring, lifeless, dry, dull, unhelpful, self-absorbed...the list could go on. How did he get hired!?
Grades homework like no other teacher I've had. I had highschool stats and it was harder than this. At least in high school I got an A in it. I am up to a B- from the D that I had earlier this semester. Frustrating is all I can say.
This man does not know how to teach. You can tell he is smart, but he is not good at getting the point across. Statistics is not hard, but he makes it hard. He needs to retire...now!

Aweful prof. He can not tech. He never tells you what he want then markes you down when you don't do what he wants. He grades homework although no one knows what we are doing because he doesn't go over half the stuff that he asigns for homework.

Not clear, not helpful, when you ask for help, it seems as though he waits for you to answer yourown question, or drown in embarassment, whichever comes first.
prof. Lamps is a fine teacher and the postings stating otherwise are from people who, in my opinion, are just too imature to face up to their own responsibilities, like actually reading the material. i found nothing wrong with his style of teaching.
He's HORRIBLE! If you have this class switch out, you'll be making the worst mistake of your life by staying in this class. This is the first class I've almost ever failed. He's mean, rude, and flat out doesn't care about you at all. Get out while you can

Hey Lamps YOU SUCK. I had him a year and a half ago, and thinking about him still pisses me off enough to rate him again. He really likes his hair and giving himself good ratings on this website
He is a decent guy. Do the homework, read the book, and the class is no problem. He offers extra credit, which can really bring up the grade.
This class sucks and so does the prof!! Do not take this class. You will hate it!!! The only good ratings on here are because the prof. did it himself!!

Wow, what to say. His class is the closest I've ever come to failing a class, and I'm a pretty decent student. His grading is ridiculous. Switch out of his class imediatly.
Wow...what a bad prof. In my 4 years at GV, this has been by far the worst teacher. You would think you were in stats 415. Lots of studying/3 homework assignments and a QUIZ EVERYDAY. The guy gets going and never slows down. DO NOT TAKE DALE LAMPS!!!!!
Not that bad of a guy. Does grade homework question by question and gives daily quizzes, so you have to be in class. Doesn't really teach, instead gives examples. Not too terrible for a stats class, though.
Doesnt seem so bad at first but it gets worse, The final was nothing like what he had been "teaching" all year, it seemed like he wanted to fail his students. Tons of homework and quizes everyday. I got an A- in Mth203, i think im going to get a C- in this class. Lectureas are boring.
He is a nice guy. If you are good in math and do the homework you will be fine. Just don't be afriad to ask questions if you don't get something. I thought he was a good prof and would have him agian.
For those of us who dont do good on exams, this is the class for you. He gives many opportunities for points. But be prepared, you must do the work, and do it right, to get the points. Overall, I enjoyed this class. The professor is very nice and helpful if you want it.
We all know stats is a real drag, but this guy makes it worse. Homework and quizzes everyday.I can't wait to take stats again with a different prof. Look elsewhere.
tuff class but just look over the matterial from the day before before you take the quize. The quizes are every day but really help you learn the stuff. would recomend to any hard working student. This guy really likes stats. i got an A

Stats is bad enough by itself, but when he gives OLA's over spring break, its a new low. The guy is absolutely nuts about stats.
RUN AWAY! This is the worst professor at GV. He expects you to spend all of your spare time working on Stats. Quizzes every class, online quizzes every night and tons of homework. I worked hard and Im barely going to pull a C. He tries to screw over students. Shouldn't even be a prof at GVSU.
This is the worst professor ever!! He needs to be canned from GVSU!! If you can get into another stats class, you would be helping yourself out tremendously. Very hard class because every time you turn around he is trying to screw you over!!
Get out of there. Even if you like Stas he makes you hate it. He is very unclear, very fast, and expects you to teach it to yourself before class. He doesn't realize that not everyone is a Stats major so things may need to be explained differently. He doesnt care, im glad im out of there.
He assumes everyone in the class has taken stats before, he explains material so fast you can't even write it down, he doesnt belong teaching he belongs in a computer lab plugging numbers...RUN
Do not take this prof, he is horrible and never explains himself fully. You have a quiz every class period and at least 2 online assigments everyday on top of the homework you recieve. Take another prof.
I didn't think he was that bad, he does give a lot of homework but that's how you learn from repitition. He answers all questions you have too. There are quizzes every class period and online assessments every once in a while labs too. Class wasn't too bad overall.
If you're even thinking about taking this prof, DON'T! Don't get me wrong, he was VERY easy, especially if math isn't too hard for you. But he's sooo boring, and because there is a quiz every day you HAVE to go to class....even if you already know everything. I either slept or played video games every class, and I hate video games!
I only took this class for my BS (which I think most of us do) and it bored me to death. I was lost all the time and when I tried to ask for help he just said hang in there...the whole class is having a hard time. Does that give you a clue? The online assessments were hard to do if you have dial-up. Also the exam reviews are nothing like the ex
I actually really like this prof. I am horrible at stats and he always helped whenever I needed help. He would always gave the class a chance to redo projects and other class activities if we didn't get the grade we wanted.
this guy is wonderful. he does however cover a ton of material and moves at a very fast paste. there are quizzes online and a quiz everyday you meet for class. he is very fair in his grading and he expects his students to work hard for their grade. he is very helpful. ask questions and get extra help if you need it to keep u pand u'll do fine.
I had Prof Lamps last Fall...It was a difficult class, but he prepared me very well for Psy 300. I had to work hard, but received an A in the class. Very thorough and caring prof!
ugh. didnt like the class or the prof. I heard others were much easier. his quizzes were hard and we had them everyday. Tests are ok if you do the review correctly. I wouldnt recommend him, but if you end up with him, youll be ok if you keep up

I liked this professor. Although he does give a quiz everyday, it's usually only 4-6 questions and it helps you understand the material. Before the tests he posted his old tests online, which were pretty much the exact same thing as the test. He lets you re-do your projects if you get less than a B. I would recommend him
I think the people have spoken. This professor is NOT cut out for the job. He makes the material hard to understand. Grades harshly on all assignments. His answers to students questions are vague - sometimes I dont think he even knows. Gives quizes each class period, only two exams. Online assignments are manditory. I would NOT recommend this prof!
Quiz every day, almost incomprehensible lecture, terrible teacher I would never recommend anyone ever take his classes.
Horrible teacher.No homework at all he never uses the book, quiz everyday which wouldn't be a problem but there isn't enough time to comprehend the info. His final exam review was 52 pages and he won't give us the answers to the review..how helpful is that? he said he was "too lazy" to figure the answers. His grading curve is stupid don't take him.
I really liked this prof. He was really nice and if you weren't thinking about how much you didn't like him and just paid attention to the material you would do just fine. Some ppl were so caught up in how he curves his grades (which helps you out actually) Midterm and Final EXACTLY from review! quiz every class which sucks, but usually really easy
LOL he isn't too bad. If you're not a complete idiot you'll do fine. He makes the subject very easy, and the review is WAY harder than the midterms and finals. If you have a problem on the reveiw ask him and he'll work through the problem with you. His curving made a 63/74 pts an A. Who can complain about that? last four classes are reveiw
I don't know why everyone is giving this guy a bad review. I HATE math/statistics and i'm getting an A in the class. Yeah, there are quizzes every class but they aren't hard. i looked over the notes before the quiz and i still do fine. Review for midterm and final are exactly whats on the tests word for word. I thought this was the easiest class.
Most boring class I have ever taken. He doesnt know how to teach and messes himself up all the time. There is a quiz everyday so you have to come to class plus they are confusing. Is not very helpful and cant explain things clearly. Binder clip reports are annoying and often graded unfairly. Dont take him if you dont have to.
I have no idea how I passed this class. Fast moving class that can often be confusing and a lot of work. Quiz every class so you have to attend. Final exam was tough. You have 3 projects and a ton of online homework.

Lamps is a very nice guy. He tries to relate to his students and does his best but overloads on work. A quiz every class, 3 tests, online homework from almost every class, 3 projects with many sections. Review for final was 70 pages. Pretty ridiculous for an intro class. But he does have a liberal curve that helps. But I would not recommend.
Good teacher, really knows his stuff. Explains everything well and gives you great notes. would highly recommend this professor.
Super nice guy, but I have been lost since week 3...if you miss one day of class your screwed..thinkin of dropping we will see how i do on the midterm tomorrow which counts for 40% of your grade..Labs are tough, not bc of the stuff he asks, but not knowing how to use SPSS TONS of OLA's..grades fairly though
Save yourself from this class. He cannot be approached and grades horribly unfair, especially for a STATS guy. Your'e personal knowledge will do you no good in this class.
Lamps is a super nice guy. he does assign a ton of projects, quizzes, etc,but he lets you redo a lot of it for a better grade All these people complaining about his class are just scared of hard work and a little determination. If you want a teacher who babies you go back to HS. Hes actually a really nice guy if you take a second to talk to him.
Do not take him as a teacher. There is no repetition in this class and he really does not care if you understand the material as long as he himself knows. The way he teaches is very hard to understand even for a math person. he messes his own work up constantly. also tries to teach you too much about life, its annoying. Nice guy, but a terrible pro
Professor Lamps is nice and helpful. Come to class every day or you will miss a ton! Go over notes before you take daily quizzes-which are easy. Follow his guidelines exactly on projects. Tests are easy if you actually do the reviews and he even lets you have a cheat sheet! He is not an easy grader but he grades on your effort-so work hard!
While an interesting person, this professor is extremely unhelpful in terms of learning statistics. He's more interesting in imparting his very biased view of the world (he once spent thirty minutes to say that pedigree is the single most important thing to know about potential spouses) that have no place during a class that you spend money on.
Lamps is a very nice guy who is interested in his students' learning, however, it almost is as he doesn't try hard enough. He understands his teaching, but he has a hard time transferring it to his students.
I liked this professor! He had daily quizzes which we always on what we had gone over in the previous class. He was enthusiastic about what he was teaching. His tests were hard but not too challenging.. his review guides were very helpful!
He was a very smart professor and wanted you to understand the material for the real world. You have daily quizes which are over the previous material. If you attend every class and do the worksheets, he manipulates your grade so if you do bad on one of the exams you can still get an A. The computer assignments are easy and if you send them he help
He is a very nice guy but his tests are very difficult. He words questions in a very weird way. A quiz is given at the beginning of each class over the stuff taught in the previous class so if you want a good grade attendance is key. He lets you have a full page front and back of notes for the test which was helpful!
Avoid if possible! Appears lost in his own classroom. Tests are fair, however grading scale for everything is imaginary. Quizzes turn your day into rage. Syllabus stated OLA's not graded, they were. Calculated my grade for somewhere in 2.0 range, ended with 2.7(B-). Your guess is as good as mine. Didn't miss a class. Best of luck!
If you are not good at math or cannot teach yourself stats, do not take a stats class with him. He does not answer questions and does not make time to meet with you in office hours. You need to rely on other students to ask questions about the material to on blackboard. He doesn't really care if you get it or not. He is nice but not good teacher.
Completely lost even after doing pretty well on the quizzes. There are so many other professors that will make the class easier to understand! I have to drop him and am taking Flikkema next semester instead. Do yourself a favor, and take a different prof
He is a horrible professor and I wouldn't recommend taking him for your stats 215 course. He is allover the place with his teaching and changes the subject often. He also doesn't offer much help to his students at all. I wish I had a better professor that could help me better understand stats, because he wasn't helpful at all.
I hated him at first because he often gets off topic, but he actually knows what he's talking about and helps you if you have a question. There's a quiz the beginning of every class on the stuff from the last class session, so attending and being on time is pretty much necessary to pass. If you ask questions in class he'll give you extra credit.
He's really funny and nice. He's helpful when you ask questions. Gives 3 point quizzes each class period. Not many assignments. Never opened the book.
He mumbles a lot but knows everything there is to know about stats. Easier class if you excel in mathematics. Would recommend.
Would go on rants about his quote of the day for most of the class period. Then we were told that we needed to teach ourselves the material to excel. He would sometimes be rude and snippy when asking questions or for help. Did not like having to have office hours. Quiz every class. Would not recommend to those that are not excellent in math.
Gives a 3 point quiz every day at the beginning of class on the previous night's reading. Pretty frustrating if you don't fully understand the material. Homework is out of the online text book, but isn't graded or for points. Often goes off on unrelated rants or political discussions.. you'll probably have to re-teach yourself afterwards
