He has fill in the blank on his notes so you have to go to class to fill it in. He writes extremely detailed questions so make sure you fully understand everything in your notes.
He knows what he's talking about and can have some interesting lectures, but is obviously a rather judgmental person and is not always clear about expectations. Attendance is taken randomly through iClicker questions, but knowledge of lectures is not really required to do assignments, provided you have a basic understanding of the environment.
A lot of people complain about Lockwood, but I think he's a brilliant professor. The subject matter for BZ 220 is a little boring, and he talks about a mile a minute, but if you actually listen to what he's saying it's easy. You do have to go to class for the fill in the blank notes. I played Candy Crush a lot in class and still got an A...
I absolutely do not recommend Lockwood for ecology. He talks too fast, doesn't explain, and his tests are way harder than they need to be. If you can, take it with the other professor!
Attendance not recorded, instead uses iclicker questions for points; talks really fast, try to take some notes before class. His class can sometimes be boring. If you want to learn about sustainability and the environment it can definitely be interesting. Homework was often not related to what was happening in class. Generally an okay class
Lockwood talks ridiculously quickly, but he's passionate about his subject and he makes a conscious effort to make class interesting. Don't skip class, and study really well for the tests and you should do okay. Try to sit near the front so you can catch everything he says!
He talks insanely fast but you do not even need to take notes to do well in the class as long as you somewhat listen to what he says. The study guide is essentially the test so study those. And he is a genius so he talks about interesting things.
Tests are do-able if you print out notes/sit in front. He is very passionate about biology and tries to make the class interesting.I-clickers daily and partial points for correctness. They helped my grade a lot. The online quizzes also help boost your grade and 1 test is dropped. Final is 50% cumulative. Textbook was helpful but not necessary.
Take another prof if you can. Talks waaay too much and too fast and never actually teaches what you NEED to know. He talks and talks and talks, all around the point instead of teaching you the important info. I have all of the notes from class and still can't answer the quiz questions because he never gave the info actually NEEDED. Thanks a lot!
His Life 320 course was my favorite course of my college career. His real world questions on exams and homework taught me more than definition regurgitation. He is more than willing to help, and also gives straightforward advice. I would take another course of his in a heartbeat. This man loves to teach.
Dale was an amazing professor for his half of the course. The tests could seem tough, but totally fair and straightforward. Super nice, and approachable.
His tests were very long and difficult, and he goes through material in class very quickly.
Wonderful professor. He gives you everything you could need for exams in the notes and even puts all the powerpoint online. Lectures were awesome, funny enough to keep you interested and packed full of interesting information. I knew what was expected on exams and in lecture. He wants to help everyone pass, book is extremely beneficial.
Dale is the smartest person I've ever met, the amount of knowledge he has is astounding. I found his lectures funny and interesting, LIFE 320 was my favorite course this semester. He does speak very quickly and his tests and homework assignments are difficult. Highly recommend him as a professor though.
Dale is my favorite teacher at CSU so far. he's a little crazy and out there but i am obsessed. i highly recommend him for any class that he teaches. I have taken life 103 and yes 101 from him and can't wait to take more. he is the director for my minoring program which makes it all the better. I LOVE YOU DALE.
He's a fantastic Ecology professor and if you have the chance at all, you should take his course. His lectures are fantastic and the homework isn't that hard. But all the information is entirely in the lectures. If you can learn from listening really well it's easy. If you can't be present/engaged in lectures, you're gonna have a bad time.
Dr. Lockwood is very passionate about what he teaches and makes it more understandable by bringing into lecture his real-life anecdotes of encounters with different organisms. He also likes to show a lot of pictures and models, which he thoroughly explains, in lecture-These show up exactly as he described them in his exams. Overall, awesome dude.
Lockwood is a good professor, he goes through notes and talks really fast so I suggest printing out the notes. He's a classic Biology professor, dry sense of humor, goofy but very smart. You definitely have to work for this class but overall not too bad.
I loved Lockwood so much! His test are very hard and don't just come straight out of the slides so study as much as you can (unlike me) but he is an amazing teacher. He keeps you engaged and he makes you laugh all the time. I would love to take him again!!!!
Lockwood is hands down the best professor I've had. He is extremely passionate about Ecology and makes every lecture interesting. If you attend lecture and complete the clicker questions you'll get the material down for his exams. The homework comes from the book and it time consuming but not too challenging.
Dale Lockwood, where do I begin? He is one of the worst professors I have ever had throughout my college career. This man does not care at all for his students, their success or their learning. He spends his lectures laughing at his own jokes and teaching irrelevant information. The exams in this class are almost impossible to pass. Don't take him.
Lockwood was a joy to have for LIFE103. Read through the chapters before lecture and review your notes if you want to get a solid grade in the class. One day he stopped lecture to straight up roast two girls who wouldn't stop talking over him and it was amazing. Much shade was thrown at these two unsuspecting gals. Anyway, great prof, good exams.
Dr. Lockwood is a fantastic professor! He is a very effective teacher and he really cares about what he is talking about. Dr. Lockwood makes it very easy to understand what he teaches and the exams are very reasonable. Great professor!
Dr. Lockwood is a true gem of Colorado State University. The man is such an inspiration, he makes you want to go home and study just so you can be fractionally as smart as him one day. His knowledge on topics all over the board of sustainability is astounding, and conversations with him are a real pleasure. I would absolutely recommend him.
Lockwood is an excellent professor he clearly knows what he teaches and has a lovely sense of humor. Show up to class and do the iclicker points and you should do fine on the tests.
His tests are pretty rough, defiantly do very detailed studying.
Very intelligent man he almost makes you feel dumb. Having him in GES was fantastic, he really got me motivated about the subject. He does talk fast and I started typing my notes because he talks so fast. Overall really great professor unless you hate the subject.
Good lectures and clear ideas. Tests are difficult and some test questions will only come from lectures. Be sure to take fantastic notes and be very detailed in studying. Reading the textbook is imperative. Not many grades and there are only 3 tests and a final. You will need to do really well on the exams and go to class to get clicker points.
Extremely intelligent person and the lectures were super interesting. If you're interested in environmental sustainability this is an awesome intro class!
I love Dr. Lockwood! I loved LIFE103, and he presented the material in a really interesting way. Most of the tests are based off lectures rather than the textbook, and he posts all of his slide notes online. Going to class for clicker points is definitely necessary to do well in the class. I highly recommend Dale as a professor!
I got an A in biology and stats, and I'm going to fail BZ 346 with lockwood. More concerned with getting through material than conveying messages at all, then expects us to read the book to fill in the gaps. Chapters are 60 pages of stats heavy content and is also hard to digest or interpret. One of worst class experiences I've ever had.
Lockwood is extremely smart but goes through the material very quickly, without taking time to thoroughly explain it. He also assigns homework each week that are time-consuming and often don't help you learn the material at all. He is also an extremely tough grader on homeworks.
Slides don't have everything on them, you HAVE to go to class to get the full information. He will go on tangents which take up the rest of class, which makes us behind. Focuses on mostly calculus, but doesn't do in-class examples about calculus. Tells the TA to specifically not help you. He should teach calc instead of ecology.
Lockwood is okay, just not my cup of tea. The one thing that really made me dislike the class are the homework assignments he gives. Hes pretty picky on how you answer the question and if its not whats on his answer key (even if you get the main idea), youll get points off. Sucks he doesnt drop the lowest HW, but its a 300 level class.
This was a hard class. The homework assignments were worth 100 points and they were so hard. Id spend hours doing them every week. His tests were multiple choice but they were very hard. He was very specific about what he was looking for. Overall. He was very knowledgeable and loved Ecology.
Dr. Lockwood is a super enthusiastic and passionate teacher, which makes listening in his class super easy. He does speak super quickly so be ready for that, and his tests and homeworks require a lot of thought. Start off strong in this class in order to stay on top of it.
Very few assignments (though a couple major ones), and weekly quizzes based off of the slides. If you attend the lecture, you don't even need to study for exams.
Dale has a great sense of humor and I enjoyed his class very much, would recommend! Tests are difficult, and there is a fair amount of homework even though the content in class is not especially difficult to understand. Make sure to show up to class since there are participation points, and the textbook is not necessary to succeed.
Whatever you do save yourself and your GPA and do not take this class. All he does is repeat words off the slides then goes on long tangents about history that are irrelevant to the topics. You get almost no support from him in assistance for exams. I had to teach myself the content. His class was a waste of my time and it will be a waste of yours.
So, not only are his tests super specific and complicated, he goes through lectures super fast to the point where it's hard to catch up. Don't even ask for extra credit because he won't even answer. On one test the average was a 60, he curved it but guess how many points he curved it for... 3. I'm honestly done.
I thought this would be a good class to talk being interested in the environment. I was extremely wrong. His class is full of lecture material and useless assignments that make your ponder whether a 4 year college degree is right for you. I would not take him or his class again as it more torture than anything.
- Textbook is key to exams - Participation mandatory - Lecture heavy - Homework heavy Take this class if it is for your major, or applies to your interests. If you're just taking it for the hell of it, you will struggle and be miserable. Lockwood is an amazing guy, knowledgable and passionate.
Overall, I think Dr. Lockwood is a great professor & I enjoyed his sense of humor. However, I think because he's so brilliant it's hard for him to relay information in a way that makes sense to us normal people. The test questions are frustratingly specific, so you need to understand how pieces fit into the bigger picture. Conceptualization is key.
Professor Lockwood is very passionate about what he teaches which makes his lectures so much more interesting. Being in lecture is very important for clicker points and understanding material. Textbook not necessary but helpful for studying.
He's brilliant and knows the material really well, but that's also what made the course frustrating. I think he knows everything so well it's hard for him to adjust his expectations appropriately for this level of a course. The slides he posts from lecture are mildly redacted to encourage attendance. I relied heavily on the lab. Don't fall behind!
Lectures were very loaded. If you write everything down that he says in lecture youll have 30+ pages of notes per exam. There are 2 exams, each is worth 5% of your final grade. So you can do bad on them and still be fine. 30% of your grade comes from a final poster. Poster takes about 1 hour of research, 1-2 to put together to took nice. Good class
Lots of homework. 30% of your final grade is based off of a group project, which you have to find the members for
He's a funny person but sucks at lecturing. Goes way too fast and when asked questions he mumbles a response that over complicates the lecture. Very tough grader and the rubric and grading style does not match up. When you go to his office hours he always acts like its a burden to him and his time. For a 101 level class it is way too difficult
He's such a nice guy, has his funny moments. He does Iclicker questions, which can really bring down your grade if you don't go to class. His lectures are quite specific and long, but all the material covered is on the tests.
If the course material was difficult, I wouldn't have liked Lockwood. The class structured well for an online format, but the class was drier than the Atacama. The participation assignments are tedious. His exams were a bit challenging as he would chose über specific material to test you on so be ready to study more than necessary for a dumb class.
Prof. Lockwood is wonderful and I would recommend any course taught by him. He cares about the success of his students so much more than I have seen in a lot of other professors. There was a shortage in exams in my section and he was so quick to make it up to us and he was understanding, compassionate, and apologetic which really stood out to me.
Lockwood taught GES 101 content well, it's interesting and he's a funny professor. There's lots of little in class assignments, some smaller news-related ones, 3 big homework assignments, two tests, a book critique, and a final group project. These were mostly easy, but the lack of communication abt expectations and due dates made it harder.
extremely lecture heavy course. An easy A for the most part. Dr. Lockwood is a very smart man with a lot of knowledge about environmental issues, but lectures are often dry. However I highly suggest this course over SOC220 global environmental issues. I learned a lot more from GES with Professor Lockwood.
Dr. Lockwood was a simply average prof. He was kind but his lectures were very boring, and he intentionally left blanks in student slides so that way you were required to go to class to have notes. On top of that, a lot of tests would include stuff not talked about in the lecture. The class average for all tests was very low.
Dr. Lockwood is a great professor. As a premed major who couldnt care less about animal/plant biology, he made the course as interesting as he could and you can tell he really cares about the content of his lectures.
Lockwood is an average professor. Lectures are kind of interesting but not the best I have had. We had daily quizzes which made up for the iClicker questions but you get put into breakout rooms to discuss questions. Besides the 3 exams, the class was easy. Exam averages were low for a 100 level class and somewhat difficult.
Dr. Lockwood was a really cool professor, and he usually had some good stories to tell which kept lectures interesting. I will say that the exams are pretty difficult so study hard for those. Other than that he was super nice and I enjoyed his class a lot!
Dr. Lockwood was decent. He goes very fast in his lectures because he is covering a lot of information so be prepared to write fast. We had 3 exams and a final which covered a lot of information. The exams were pretty challenging so be ready to study. Responses to emails were also very slow and lacking. Takes a while to post lecture recordings.
i take about 3 pages of notes per lecture and i have genuinely no idea what information i need to know. homework is straightforward but is graded tough
He talks really fast during lectures and the homework can be confusing because he will hardly go over those hw subjects, certain concepts he changed from the book and it makes things confusing for exams. The TA is great and does his best to explain things the professor doesn't. I don't recommend him.
Great Professor, always very passionate about the subjects and always very enthusiastic.
This class is very lecture heavy but he's an interesting professor. He has lots of personal stories and will gladly answer any questions. He's an easy grader but he will not answer your emails. The topics covered are very broad but very interesting and relate to the real world. He does the occasional iclicker question so I suggest you show up.
The lectures were so interesting. He has a passion-- he talks so fast, and he will answer everyone's question in detail. He didn't even get through everything in the semester. The rubrics were vague, but because it was graded easily (an intro class, too). He provides a study guide, and the homeworks were simple. He is a scientist and experienced.
probably the easiest class i've ever taken, but he sucks as a professor. he is never accesible outside class, he hasn't changed grading rubrics in years, and he waited until the day before the final exam to give us any information about it. i would not recommend but at least i didn't have to show up to class pretty much at all
Dr. Lockwood teaches the class very broadly -- you cover a *lot* of the terrain of population math. His lectures are interesting and well done, but on Fridays there are paper presentations, and frankly all but one went way over my head, and I did not get much out of the experience of reading things I couldn't understand. Excellent teacher though.
Decent professor and his class was fairly easy but had boring/ depressing lectures at times. I took an AP environmental science class and it was harder than his class. Need to check the syllabus for tests & final info because he won't tell you until right before. During my class, he had online lectures & tests. Assignments crucial to a good grade.
Dr. Lockwood is a great professor and keeps his lectures interesting with jokes. The class goes over a lot of information, but everything that is on the tests comes straight from the slides. He does talk really fast in lectures so be prepared to write/type quickly.
The lectures are so fast and there are absolutely no resources provided for exam prep. There are no LAs and tilt has no tutors for life103. Going to lecture was pointless because of how fast it was so exam prep was a ton of work outside of class
The life 103 course is a lot of information to retain and utilize. The lectures are fast paced but that was to be expected with the amount of information you need to know. Professor Lockwood is quite sagacious in the information being presented. Just be prepared for the exams and you should do fine in the class.
Professor Lockwood is incredibly enthusiastic about his classes, however his tests will have 35 questions with 200+ vocabulary terms to study. If you are great at memorizing this course is for you, but this semester the average of two of the exams was a failing grade.
Lockwood seemed to care about his lectures, but he went way too fast to obtain information. His exam averages are all horrible (low 60s). I don't know how that Is acceptable - no one seems to be learning. Very little graded work/assignments so learning is just on your own. He also posts exam resources way too late to properly study them.
Professor Lockwood is clearly talented and intelligent, but his lectures are too fast. It is impossible to keep up with him in class. I end up spending additional time rewatching the lectures outside of class to catch up. The class also does little to prepare us for tests, and the averages are always within the low 60s.
Dr. Lockwood is great! The course is very easy to understand if you take the time to read over the slides and watch the recordings if you missed a class or all of them. He is very passionate about what he does and gives lots of things to help you study for the exams, like a study guide and homework quizzes.
He's by far the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't respond to any emails, really slow at grading, the homework is hard and includes things he doesn't go over the lecture. Even if the averages are failing grades he doesn't curve anything. Super unaccessible. Definitely wouldn't take him again.
Lockwood is obviously smart and passionate. Unfortunately, he bases a lot of homework (100 pt written assign.) on calculus equations he only briefly covers in class. he expects you to be GOOD at calculus so if you don't remember calculus/how to solve equations, don't bother taking this class, HW will screw you over.
This was an unreasonably difficult course. Homework was way more complicated than lectures ever covered. Expect a lot of calculus questions- without ever having gone over them. Lectures were often wasted by storytelling and other students dominating conversations. Also, never expect an email response from Dr. Lockwood, no matter how many you send.
Lockwood makes his exams unnecessarily difficult. He also makes the homework nearly impossible and is not helpful at all. He doesn't answer emails, and actually laughs when you ask him questions in person. Has no idea how to use iClicker and gives no resources for success. Strongly advise against taking this professor.
This was easily the worst class I've taken at CSU. He was unnecessarily difficult to deal with and was not clear on grading expectations for assignments. He is not good at communicating and never told us our grade was out of 104% (which dropped my overall grade). Get ready to do a whole lot of nothing. Concepts are random and don't fully connect.
Really passionate about sustainability, but lectures are sometimes hard to follow and go by extremely fast. Exams are difficult, but are only a small percentage of your grade so if you go to class and do your work you can get an A in the class even if you don't do well on exams.
Dr. Lockwood is very passionate about what he teaches. The tests he gave were relatively difficult just by virtue of how much information was being tested, and homework was graded somewhat harshly. However, going to his office hours really made a difference in the latter. Lectures were entertaining, but went by quickly.
Dr. Lockwood clearly cares about what he teaches and enjoys it. However, he talks VERY fast! It's extremely difficult to keep up with his lectures, especially if you hand write notes. His quizzes and tests are also difficult, usually having specific questions he went over for maybe and minute during class. He is also a slow grader.
Professor Lockwood is a funny guy and knows a lot about what he's teaching, but he goes super fast with his slides. If you want to take in every note he puts on his slides, take out a computer and write them from your laptop, because there is no way you're going to get all the notes from his lecture.
Dr. Lockwood is an intelligent person who knows a lot about his subject. However, he lectures incredibly fast and tends to ramble. He gives weekly quizzes which are easy, but his exams are very difficult. The questions on exams were some things I had never seen before. He expects you to really expand your knowledge on every topic outside of class.
Dale Lockwood as a scientist is one of the smartest men I've ever met. He knows what he's talking about, he's able to elaborate on a subject if needed, etc. However, for the class overall, it was far too lecture heavy. The material is too much and I didn't meet a single person who studied after the first test. Not enough recollection material.
Tests are impossible and no amount of studying can save you. He's the kind of teacher that get's an inflated ego when everyone does really bad on the exams. The only thing that kept me alive in this class was clicker questions and weekly quizzes. Lectures are super fast, and he doesn't explain things well.
He may go on tangents sometimes, talk really fast, and breeze through slides, but all that really meant for me and some peers was changing how we took notes - the content he gives and his clarity is really good. I-Clicker is here which can be annoying, but the questions are pretty simple. His exams aren't great, though; specific questions.
Attending lectures and taking good notes is extremely important if you want to pass the exams because they can be very challenging. However, he really cares about what he is teaching, and it is inspiring and makes lectures fun.
The professor knows a lot and has a lot of passion for teaching plant biology. He clearly is legitimately trying to teach and not just trying to read off the slides but he has really high expectations for what he wants people to learn and the exams reflect that. Exams are difficult. Watch lecture videos, and review slides. And it won't be as bad
I'm sure he is an amazing professor, but his lectures were hard to follow. He is very monotone and pauses a lot. Get ready to take notes on what he says because he often uses direct quotes on quizzes and exams. I'm still waiting on my final to be graded, and will pass with a B minimum, but mainly due to the animal lectures, not his plant lectures.
Dale is so boring. He didn't explain things well and wouldn't tell us what information was important for an exam. He made difficult topics even more difficult to understand.
This teacher is passionate about what he is teaching, thus watching lectures are fun. The downside of this teacher is he doesn't provide good feedback anywhere on what you need to know for exams, it seems to be expected that we know every small detail that was taught.
I would love to listen to Dale give a lecture if there was nothing at stake (like my grade). But since I do have something to lose, his continual tangents and test questions that are barely brushed upon in lecture are frustrating. Questions are worded in a way that feels like he's trying to beef the difficulty since tests are multiple choice.
Dr Lockwood is clearly passionate about what he teaches, however his exams are really difficult. The questions are obscure and very specific about a tiny detail which we covered in class. There also weren't many chances to earn points in this class. He clearly is passionate about the subject but just plan to really study for his class.
I enjoy the curriculum that this course offers however prof. Lockwood is too smart to be teaching level 100 classes. He is extremely knowledgeable and I admire that but he tends to go off on tangents. I can never tell what information will actually be valuable for an exam.
Nice, knowledgeable guy. His lectures are kind of boring/easy, but then exams are pretty hard and homework takes forever. I didn't really have to study that much, grading and workload is very reasonable.
He is very good at conveying information, but his lectures are somewhat boring and sometimes talks in a very monotone voice. he has started requiring service hours having to do with sustainability, so if you do not have the time to do service hours do not sign up for his GES 101 class.
Dale is a super intelligent and passionate guy. He's pretty funny too. However, for being a 100 level course, GES101 is too lecture heavy and you won't be able to keep up if hand writing notes. The class requires 8 hours of volunteering and the homework is a lot and graded relatively tough. He also randomly uses iClicker questions for attendance.
Professor Lockwood is very enthusiastic about botany and evolution, although the way he explains things often leads to more confusion. His lectures are mandatory because he blanks out sections in the notes he uploads. He does not provide any exam or study resources such as guides or practice questions, and exams are extremely difficult.
Dr. Lockwood enjoyed what he taught, but his exams were difficult. I felt that a lot of the exam questions had to do with what he would explicitly say in class rather than what he had on his lecture slides or in the textbook. Lectures have a lot of material and he goes through them pretty quick, and homework was also time-consuming but manageable.
Prof Lockwood was very knowledgeable in regards to the GES course. The lectures had interesting topics - all although some were tough to sit through the entirety. He uses iClicker for daily attendance, but it is not too important to the grade so skipping a lecture here and there won't have too big of an impact.
I would stay away from LIFE103 with Mr. Lockwood. I have always excelled in biology, yet I have never been more confused with it until I took this class. He is a confusing teacher to listen to, and expects way too much from students. Having a normal conversation with him is super hard and frustrating for I have never experienced a more rude teacher
Presents at Mach 10 speed, attendance is mandatory, not worth it, does not care about his students, my friends and I have tried talking to him but he is very rude and discouraging. Lectures confuse you more than they benefit, tests are extremely hard but he provides no resources or help, I study with my friend in another class to even do okay.
He is a nice guy and you can tell he cares about what he is teaching. However, his tests are difficult, and he uses wording that is purposely confusing. He does make a "study guide" but it is too broad and not helpful for tests so would not recommend using them to study.
This was a great class. There is iClicker for an attendance grade. Lowest exam score and two lowest quiz scores get dropped. Overall a good class and was not work heavy.
He gives great lectures and enjoys teaching. However, I found his tests really difficult. There're also very few assignments in the class, you're graded on exams, quizzes, and in class participation. His study guides for 30 question exams often had over 100 terms so It's hard to know what to study for. Overall, a good professor though
Dr. Lockwood is a very nice person who clearly cares about Biology, but his class is very difficult. His lectures can get confusing, as he goes on tangents that sometimes apply to the exams, and sometimes don't. The class is mostly based on test grades, which is unfortunate because his tests are really difficult.
Tests are really hard and lectures can get very confusing at times
Lecture heavy; attendance is not mandatory- but is graded through Iclicker (and helpful). The study guides can be helpful but you are given 100+ terms so it is hard to know EXACTLY what will be on the exams. The exams employ concepts, terms, and quotes that Lockwood shared in class. Be prepared to be in class till the VERY last minute of class.
Dr. Lockwood is a really good professor. His lectures are very informative but he does cover a lot of content throughout the semester. His tests are difficult, but easy if you study good. He usually re-uses quiz and iClicker questions on exams, so going to class is recommended. Don't buy the textbook, it's not worth it at all.
Lectures can be really interesting-- Dr. Lockwood often finds a lot of really interesting connections between lecture topics and applied real world situations. The exams are difficult and require students to apply learned topics beyond just definitions or meanings. I would recommend studying for exams at least a week in advance!
Took a summer course with Lockwood. Exams were all written response and he was very generous with partial credit. Gave a lot of examples and focused on application of concepts vs memorizing defintions.
Great Guy. Really Passionate about Environmental Science
Dr. Lockwood is an incredibly passionate teacher especially when it comes to Climate Change. We always feel comfortable asking questions. Attendance isn't mandatory. HOWEVER, iClicker questions randomly appear in his lectures, and if you consistently miss participating in them, they affect your grade. So, attendance is mandatory to a point.
I really like this professor, but I think he makes this class harder than it really needs to be. The content is interesting, but the homework is kinda wack and difficult, and is graded harshly. He is such a nice guy and gives extra credit opportunities and has dropped exams and assignments. If you put the effort in this class you can get an A.
Professor Lockwood made this course harder than it could have been. He is very passionate about ecology and shares his passion within his lectures. He does get a little snappy with students when they are talking or distracting him at all but he overall was a nice guy. The tests definitely require some studying and are a mix of conceptual and memory
Lockwood made this class way more complicated than it should be with lots of confusing equations he never explained. Confusing homeworks, no study materials for the tests, and made his TA do everything for him. He is also just generally disrespectful and will laugh at students behind their back. Please take any other professor.
Easy and fun class! Simple in terms of grading and assignments. Lecture heavy with some small projects such as a book critique and a couple hours of volunteer service required out of class. Two easy multiple choice exams in total.
Lectures can be engaging, but the exams are quite challenging. Attendance is mandatory and iClicker questions are used. Avoid the textbook as it's not essential. Utilize Unstuckstudy alongside other study resources to prepare for the exams.
Dr. Lockwood was alright. The lectures can get a bit confusing sometimes in terms of relevance. The study guides were confusing as well but overall, I would take his course again. He was very passionate about what he was teaching regarding environmental sustainability. He provided multiple projects for extra credit as well.
Boring class, talks about everything but doe not give emphasis on actual material on the test. I love bio but going to his class was a chore, rambles on and on. No TA's for support, no pre exam study sessions, and tough exams.
No TA's, no review sessions, no homework, no reinforcement work, no echo360. Class is a series of info dumps followed by an exam that covers a range of topics that have the through line of "they're related to biology". Friend and I were struggling with the sheer amount of info and his suggestion was basically "study better".
Very lecture-heavy and boring. Attendance is required with I-clicker questions. Exams are pretty difficult. Wouldn't take again
Lockwood is a great professor, his lectures are interesting and engaging plus he is funny. His exams are very straight forward from the slides. Iclicker in class for participation points. He offered a few extra credit opportunities also. There isn't much work in this class other than a quiz every few weeks.
Super sweet dude, loves his job
The averages for all our exams have been around a 60%. The study guides are a bunch of nonsense with 200 terms from previous classes 2 years ago- if you do try and study the topics the Exams are only 40 questions. There is no resources to get help- no TA's, TILT sessions, review, -nothing you get nothing. Ill probably have to take LIFE 320 w/ him😫
I did enjoy the lectures, he clearly does care! I would say for a 100-level class, he is a more difficult prof. Just keep on top of studying, and you will be fine! He gives major dad vibes and makes some jokes, I enjoyed his class. The exams sucked, but he gave some extra credit opportunities! Tip: make a group to study with (so helpful)!
Take good notes! I didn't see a ton of people writing down lecture content, which explains the low exam averages. Lockwood was very funny and stuck around after class to answer questions.
Good professor, explains things well, passionate. Sometimes would snap at students who talked loudly in class, but that was rare. Solid amount of extra credit.
The class felt harder than it could have been. He seems very interested, but the relevancy of materials being discussed were confusing. I thought that the grading criteria and feedback given on points missed were very unclear.
The lectures are so long and contain a lot of information. Dr. Lockwood says some interesting things during the lectures but also goes on so many tangents that it is hard to determine what is important for the tests. He gives us a study guide, but it is 100+ terms that was learned over the course of the unit, so it is not very helpful to study with
The lecture is so heavy and all of the tests are essay based except the final one had a few multiple choice questions and there's no extra credit questions or homework or anything i studied so hard for all the tests and even after each lecture but the questions were hard and complicated
Lockwood is a super chill guy who is passionate about what he teaches. However, there seems so be a lot of disconnect between what he says in class, what is on the study guides, and what appears in exams. It feels as if someone different has written each thing, or perhaps they were written years apart from one another.
Passionate. Kind. He loves what he does. However, he is disorganized. He would not upload notes on time, and if he did, they were outdated. The exams are odd and unclear, with a strong focus on the discussions during lecture rather than the notes. He dropped one exam and one homework, but regarding grading and feedback on Canvas, it is a mess.
I do not think he realizes that people who take his class have jobs, other courses, and requirements outside of class. Excessive and unnecessary.
Dr. Lockwood doesn't assign much homework but all of the material you are taught is lecture heavy so be sure to be vigilant and take good notes. Easygoing and reasonable. Very passionate about sustainability. Enjoyed his class and I would highly recommend as it's a pretty easy course.
It is easy to zone out during his lectures, but he gave pretty straightforward answers when I asked him questions. iClickers aren't location-based but he only shows the question in class. Homeworks are pretty easy points, a hw and exam are dropped. You need to buy the book because he uses questions in the book for hw. Reading the text is useful!
I have taken two classes with Dale, and both of them have been challenging. His PhD student, who graded our homework (Kathy), was never consistent with grading. My friends would have very similar answers on our homework, but we would get vastly different grades (from 90-50%).Mind you, WE HAD BASICALLY THE SAME ANSWERS. But Dale himself is chill
