I think he's pretty flexible with his students, and honestly cares about the students, and the lectures are easy to follow and understand, the only thing is his tests can be tricky, but as long as you study you should be ok

Spady told semi-funny stories. Always knew what you did in class, didn't have to attend to do good. The tests were pretty easy, kind of a snooze, but what class isn't?

Class time passed pretty fast. Entertaining brings real life stories into the lecture. Tests were ok but sometimes could not really tell how well you did.

When I looked at the other comments, I had to make sure we were talking about the same guy. I never saw him flip out, and he doesn't seem to have an anger problem. The tests are tricky, but the curve helped. :) I would have prefered more discussion.

To clarify: Spady warns everyone on the first day that he WILL embarrass you if you are constantly disrupting class. He often warns you again if you are, and ONLY if you don't take the hint will he "flip out". Great teacher, clear speaker, fun

Spady was very helpful when I had questions and he spent the time to throughly go over anything that was brought up in the class the confused any of the students.

He was very clear about what would be on his exams but they're hard. Lots of material is covered. He is a great lecturer and he may be intolerant of people talking but this is respectful to the rest of the class and I appreciate his control when it occurs. He makes the subjects very interesting.

What an amazing teacher! You have to read the material and take vigorous notes but it is worth it. I feel like a better person for having taken his class. He seems strict but is actually very approachable.

I like listening to his lecutres. He has very interesting stories to tell, sometimes they don't apply to anything your learing though. He also tells you what to study before the exams. Make sure you study!!!!! Read the book. He doesn't cover everything in class that is on the exams.

He talks just to hear himself talk. He is an ass to students. Sometimes he is interesting with his made up stories. You have to study hardcore and he makes sure to keep you a long time

I think Spady is the perfect professor. He presents the subject in a interesting way, giving an example or more for every concept he introduces. His tests are a fair mix of lecture and notes, and if you put some reasonable time into studying, you'll do well in the class.

I had him for some sociology 300 level class. It was alright, he seemed pretty nice its just that I wasnt that interested in the material, but he definitely knows his stuff

His lectures are really interesting to listen to, even with ADD i could pay attention the entire hour. What makes the difference is that he seems to love what he teaches. The tests come a lot from his lecture, so pay attention.

Spady is a very interesting man...he has done LSD which was very interesting and his friend is a terrorist, if these are not reasons to take him, you are really boring. His tests are sort of hard though and are half lecture, and half text, so study really hard and an A isnt too tough.

He comes across as being a really nice guy. He picks out his least favorite people within the first few weeks of class so don't always annoyingly type on the messengers and giggle. Kind of full of himself but still very knowledgeable. Just follow along, he gives a lot of good examples. I enjoyed this class enough to choose SO as my minor.

Spady is a very intelligent professor that offered a lot of information I have used in other classes, I'd highly reccomend SO 113 for anyone who needed to take care of a liberal study and wanted to take an easy and interesting class.

He kept the lectures interesting and gave a very thorough review before every exam. He was clear with all his points and most helpful when students had questions. He does an excellent job of covering the major bases of an intro to SO class.

Professor Spady is extremely intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. He has excellent examples and thorough about what he speaks. I thought the tests were hard and I really had to study for them to do well, but he is very helpful and a nice guy if you need any assistance.

His notes are on WebCT, but I still recommend going to class even though attendence isn't required. You do have to at least skim through the assigned chapters, but he does go over some of the important information for the exams.

Easily the most interesting professor I've had to date. The second week he showed us how to start a riot. He definently knows his subject. He's a pretty intimidating guy, however, I wouldn't approach, but to each his own.

He is brilliant. i don't care what anyone says. He is the reason I am changing my major to sociology. I have the upmost respect for dr. spady. I definitely recommend taking any of his courses.

Excellent teacher! Explains material in everyday understandable ways! To get and A you must attend lecture. Half of test questions come from lecture. He tells you what to study out of the book so you dont have to read much of the text. VERY strict ( do not talk during class or come late to class) I highly reccomend him! Very interesting class!!

Spady is one of the best teachers I have. His examples of material during lectures apply to daily life, so things are easy to remember during the tests. Read what he says read and go to class and listen. You should do fine.

Dr. Spady has a very organized way of presenting lectures. I never have problem attending his class because he keeps me pretty entertained all hour. It would be nice if more professors would inherit his style of teaching. EXCELLENT CLASS!! BRAVO!!

His lectures are simply wondeful. Alot of his lecture covers whats in the reading. But make sure to take notes and do the reading. Reading before makes it so much easier. Wish more were like Spady.

Spady's tests can be tricky, not gonna lie. But if you read the chapters and listen to his lectures you'll do fine. Gifted lecturer. He's super interesting. If nothing else just go to class for the entertainment. Really sweet guy. Just do NOT interrupt his class!!! Ohhhh man!!

He is really entertaining, even though he does have a lot of stories... Anyways, what you need to know is the fact that he assigns chapters to exams, and then lectures aboot other chapters. For instance, there was a chapter he lectured for exam #3 that was supposed to be covered on exam #2. He will be a **** if you don't listen to him.

I'm not a soc major but I took this course just because I'd heard about how amazing he is and wanted to have a lecture with him before he retired. Very glad I took the course, I gained a lot. It was challenging though, and he really doesn't like people talking in class. He will call you out.
