Hard course, but he tries to help out
No speaky english
Hard course. If you really want to pass, you can.
doesn't speak english very well at all, only made it through b/c of good PLA
Doesn't speak English. Makes no sense.
Why is he still here?
Just as long as you don't pay any attention to what he says and pay attention to what he writes you will be fine.
Very concerned for the students.
Easy class!

He said You No Go To Lectia, Minus Twenty-Five! This guy is very unlcear and not cool....but if you do not learn the equation....you feel shame!!
This guy is really smart, and knows how to explain things well... if you can understand what he's saying. Take good notes, and use a cheat sheet! DiffEq's fits on 1 piece of paper (really!)
Terrible professor. He should not be teaching anywhere in America. He cannot communicate at all and send 50 emails a week. His English is horrendous. Never take his class. He doesn't care about you, that's for sure. If you know Chinese you're set!
His so-called accent is overblown. He's actually quite easy to understand once you get used to it. The problem is that his lectures are boring and the book used is written by a WPI Professor (i.e. it sucks). Get a different book for studying purposes.
Lecture didn't help me learn the material too much. Conference with the PLAs was much much more helpful.
Tang is a good professor
I had Dalin "David" Tang for MA1022 as well and both times I found him fair and pretty easy to understand. His accent and ramblings are humorous. But he takes the time to explain everything to everyone unlike most professors. Very easy class.
this guy needs to get a grip on life and stop bullying people around...probably a half decent professor otherwise
Dalin Tang is an amazing professor. He is funny and conveys the information well. He's is not hard to understand at all. Tests are very fair. If you go to lecture you shouldn't have any trouble.
This guy is The Man. HILARIOUS. plus he's supposed to be the easiest guy you can get for diffeq's.
Easy to understand and the tests were pretty fair. Lectures were boring but what are you gonna do? It's math. Dalin is a good guy.
Tang is one of the best math prof. in wpi math department. His lectures are very clear and helpful, he got a great sense of humor and will keeps you laugh in the class for the whole time. Tang makes this DFQ course very interesting and i learn alot from his lectures.
Dalin Tang was one of the most energetic math professors I've had. He's full of funny asides, and tends to waste class time. But, it's entertaining to write all the sayings down and it helps you to pay attention.
Prof. Tang's lectures are almost useless. He is funny though. Talks a lot about China. His lectures were the only Math lectures, other than Prof. Labenski's(Awesome Prof, who left), in which I were able to stay awake. This is because of his moderately funny jokes. Helps in his office anytime.
I agree with an earlier rate, Tang needs to stop bullying people around. If you don't do well, he's more likely to criticize than help at all. He is without compassion or sympathy-he said himself, "I am a machine." His tests will usually catch you off guard with their rediculous difficulty.
KNows exactly what he was talking about, and teaches it well. Willing to answer questions, even if they are ridiculous. Very very funny and it helps pass the time. Isn't wikid wikid easy, his one downside is that he doesnt always finish examples in class. But overall great to have!
Dalin was by far the ABSOLUTE worst professor I have ever heard of or had. He was completely unhelpful, mean, and his classes were horrible. I would never take another class offered by him, even if it meant I would not graduate.
Horrible teacher, never answered your questions directly. Very mean to his students and basically yelled at you if you didn't understand what he was talking about

WASTE OF TIME. If you take his class, you'll have to take it again. You can't understand half of what he says and he's mean to you when you ask him to repeat himself.

Bad to quite bad. Can't speak or write english. Easiest IQP ever though if you like slacking off bigtime and getting an A for it.
Hard to understand, Didn't explain the material that well... I'd try and find a math teacher that speaks english (good luck)
Good math professor for DFQ, have good sense of humor. Class is easy, and exams are fair. Just understand how to do the Hw, you should be getting at least B in the class
Hard to understand.
Not a cool guy. He doesn't seem to enjoy helping the students. Tests and hw are not bad but he covers a lot of material (more than other professors). Also, he gets angry very easily, especially if nobody answers his questions.
Amazing professor. Think of him like a miniature budah. Has a good sense of humor and teaches the material, just show up to lecture. On the plus side cheat sheets and calculators are allowed on tests. One other thing GO TO CONFERENCE, they will help so much.
Has interesting research/MQP opportunities for students. Recommended as a research advisor.
He explains the material very clearly and makes sure everyone understands it. The notes I took were a book in brief, so there was little need to read it. No surprises on the tests because he makes sure everyone is prepared to those. His grading curve is absolutely amazing.
I took Differential Equations with Prof. Tang and enjoyed it very much. I learned a lot and still use much of the material I learned in my ECE courses todday. If you do the homework, show up for lecture, and seek help when you need it the course will be fine. I would reccomend Prof. Tang
Talk to him right away when you dont understand something that he wrote. It is much easy that way rather than changing your paper without fully understand his comments. There were a bit miscommunications between us. But they were all resolved in the end.
I did the Stock Exchange IQP With Prof. Dalin Tang and it was a great experience and We ended up doing very well, Highly Recommended
AWESOMEST TEACHER EVAR!!!! pero, L2Engrish
Very helpful and thoughtful professor.
If you don't like professor Tang, it's because you suck at math and just want to blame your professor. His English is good enough to understand easily and bad enough to entertain you during lecture. His asides during class may take up time, but it keeps you awake, and when he does teach you, he is to the point. Fantastic professor.
Very hard to understand.
Good prof. Tough tests but easy grading policy. If you fail his class you probably belong at QCC
Very good teacher. Tests are hard, but fair: no surprises. Makes everything understandable.Very good teacher, but can be very scary personality-wise.
Tang is a unique professor: he understands his students, yet he also understands what it takes to get ahead. Frequently dishes out fun bits of life advice which keep you entertained. class is very challenging, however he teaches you good work ethic. no surprises on tests; representative of the material. overall very good prof. Pick him if you can.
Extremely humorous and keeps lengthy procedures to a minimal with simple bullet point procedures to solving problems.
Very funny during lecture, not the clearest explanations, homework is very hard but he grades VERY fairly. Do the work and you'll be fine.
He is very funny and engaging; good at answering questions; presents material in an organized manner that makes it easy to study for tests; book used is an old version (I got it for $5!); don't talk in class and you'll have a good time!
Best math teacher at WPI. Gives concise and easy to understand explanations. Thick accent but I could still easily follow his explanations even if I wasn't catching every word he said. Also awkwardly funny.
Great IQP Advisor, really gives the students free range of the project to do what they want and responds very quickly to emails. Quite knowledgeable about the stock market topic and great feedback
IQP was a very pleasant experience. Feedback was consistent, knowledgeable and helpful.
Best Math professor i have had so far at WPI. He brings examples from real word and relate them to math and that what I like most about him. If you don't get an A in his class, math is not your thing.
Tang is a great professor and is probably the most helpful faculty you will meet. Good Accent. He's humorous in his lectures but can get too much when you're trying to understand the material and he goes off topic mid-explanation. Some might say a good part of the class didn't go to lecture. Do the home works well in advance, you should ace it!
Do not take this professor if you want to learn. I didn't learn anything. You do the work you fine in the course. Great if you are retaking it. not so much if you need to learn the material for later.
very confusing in lectures, you need a good PLA to understand the material. Class was easy though.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. DID NOT TEACH ONE THING - DO NOT GO TO LECTURES. VERY DEGRADING AND ALWAYS RUDE TO HIS STUDENTS. IF YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, HE WILL CALL YOU STUPID AND KICK YOU OUT. LEARNED EVERYTHING FROM CONFERENCE. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR - HE IS SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS.
Some professor tell stories to keep you interested but they only do that once they get their point across. This guy, however, cuts in right in between the lesson and goes off topic which was terrible. he is confusing and you won't survive without a good conference instructor. The comment below mine has exaggerated the matter. he's not that bad.
Professor Tang was very disappointing in terms of clarity. Most of my classmates would agree that the conferences were the only consistent source of help with the class topics. Unfortunately he is also not always respectful of all his students, especially during office hours, AND I suspect one of my exam grades was lowered for non-academic reasons.
He is a really good professor. Gives you the freedom to choose your resources. The IQP gives you a great experience with the investment in stock market. Just follow what he says and you will be fine
basically spend around 2-hour per week watching stock price and write the report. It was a little bit rough on start, since we didn't get on the same idea and had to do a lot of initial research. However, gave good and helpful feedback, knew what he wanted, reasonable and always available to answer questions. Overall, highly recommended for IQP.
Caring professor, gives good feedbacks. Communicate with him immediately if there is anything you don't understand and he will help out!
He gets off from failing his students. Class test averages were about 40%, I passed with a 50%. Get ready to teach yourself. Sal Khan was the only way I survived.
Pretty confusing and disrespectful. Attendence was not graded, but he got mad when only a few people showed up. He based his cutoff of A, B, and C off of how well the class did, not off how many points were earned on the assignments. With no way to check your grade, final grading was confusing and we had to get like a 94% to actually get an A.
Dalin Tang is not a bad person. He knows his material, and if you actually pay attention to his lecture, you pick up a decent amount of information. However, participating in his class is a wild ride, even though he really wants you to. When I tried, he roasted me, so I kinda just layed low for the rest of the term. However, he is a good professor.
Funny guy, knows his stuff, allows formula sheet front and back, provides practice tests and actual tests are pretty similar. Gives lots of partial credit if you show work. Pretty easy A as long as you do the work, go to class, and get help if you don't understand something by going to office hours, MASH, tutoring, etc. Overall would recommend.
Professor has high standards for his students. He doesn't care if you're here to mess around or be rude. Great feedback and approachable outside of class. Recognizes students who seek out help and takes note of it accordingly. Show up, do the work, be respectful and you will do well. Professor is funny at times and is known to roast students.
honestly just take my word for it and don't take his class. he tries to explain things through confusing metaphors and no one has any idea what he's saying, attendance is not mandatory and after the first exam people just stopped showing up. not good at explaining things and will get mad at you for not understanding the material.
Learn material on own time or in conference. Equations will be pulled out of midair and brushed over in less than a second. Teacher doesnt explain steps or even read aloud what hes doing. Erases board fast and inaccurate so reading the board is a front rows thing. Text book is needed for homework.
Sends out practice tests which are very similar to the tests he gives
The tests feel like a challenge as to what is actually taught in the lecture. Not helpful when asked questions or advice. Much of the new material is just assumed to be known.
He is the kind of professor to give you a lot of homework and make you study all by yourself. The topics of the class are pretty simple, but prepare to learn by yourself. All of that would be enough to make him a bad professor, but he is absolutely unable to take any criticism. Worst math proff I have ever had
This professor is quite difficult to understand and is disorganized during his lectures. He doesn't respond well to feedback and can be rude when questions are asked. His grading system is ridiculous, he actually went against the normal grading scale and made it harder to get an A or a B in the course(needed over 90 or 80 respectively).
DISCLAIMER: Took the class online during quarantine, maybe he's a better teacher in-person? Lecture style was very disjointed and confusing--our TA could explain every concept better in half the time. Lecture notes were disjointed and difficult to read, questions weren't answered clearly or well. Would recommend finding a different prof if possible
Awful. Don't even bother.
Professor Tang holds true to his grading criteria. He has wide knowledge of the stock market, and wants nothing more than his students to succeed. Professor Tang is great, and to maximize the quality of your experience, you must come to him with questions if you expect him to share more on a specific topic.
He's a lighthearted guy and cares about what he teaches, but he sometimes avoids the questions he gets asked. His notes look like chicken scratch. But the lay out of every test is very clear. Go to the prep sessions and look at the practice exams. The best thing I experienced in this class was my TA. He was very accessible with email.
Amazing lectures, amazing quotes, very clear explanations. Don't miss lecture, it will always be a fun time.
This professor was awful. Doesn't know what he's talking about. Has to get corrected during the class all the time, and reacts with screaming. Actually 1head.
His class itself is not too bad, however he extremely rude when you reach out to him for anything. In lecture he is very nice, but one on one he is extremely rude and unprofessional.
The workload of the homework will only be felt if you intend to do each week's assignments in one weekend. The tests are very similar to study guide. He might seem unhelpful during lectures when you ask questions because he turns it into a joke for the whole class, but if you ask him in person he is a very nice guy and will help you for sure.
Terrible professor, grading entirely depends on TA (similar tests had a 40% difference across different graders), I was fine in this course because I had a good TA, but he is unhelpful and unwilling to help students, his answer is to study harder for anything you ask
Professor Tang had a strange form of lecturing. He utilized pre-written, chicken scratch notes that he read to the class, but on occasion, he would write on the board for clarity. He also would go off on tangents, with little relevance to the lecture, for up to ten minutes. Overall, my TA was more helpful in my understanding of the material.
I found that Professor Tang was a great lecturer; everything lined up well with our assignments. The little homework he gave was straightforward and we always had plenty of time to complete it. There were only three (non-cumulative) tests and he provided useful practice tests beforehand. As long as you go to class you'll have no trouble at all.
Tang is a nightmare professor, he is basically inaccessible outside of class, his lectures are all over the place and never have any real structure, his notes are basically unreadable and it is almost impossible to have a real discussion with him about grades because the "Grader grades everything" and he is not involved. Tests were online.
Nice guy and takes appreciates effort and attendance, but very harsh grader on exams and only gives 5 homework assignments. If you perform poorly on one exam, youre done for the term. Also says that he is open to discussing exam grading mistakes, but denies every attempt. Notes are chicken scratch and lectures are unorganized. Avoid if possible.
Nice guy and cares about attendance and effort but bad professor. Only gave 2 exams so if you do poorly on one youre done for the term. Notes are chicken scratch and lectures are impossible to follow, no point in going. Insanely tough grader of exams, wont accept any corrections or concerns you might have. Avoid if youre able to, nightmare term.
I think I went to this class all of 3 times. Just read the notes he puts up online, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Half the test questions come directly from the homework— sometimes he forgets to even change the numbers.
He is a funny and great guy. His lectures are him reading off of a PDF of his own work but are not difficult to follow. He understands that math is hard and does not expect more than a basic understanding. The homework is good preparation for exams. Tang's exams are online, easy, and similar to his practice exams, but you will be pressed for time.
Good lecturer and not much homework. The lectures are his notes and he just goes through them, but it's not confusing. There is only one homework a week, and the tests were all online for this course. Good professor and good person.
Very funny teacher, presents a slide show for lecture, sometimes hard to follow. Very easy class, sometimes hard to understand but very straight forward guy.
Professor Tang's lectures can be hit-or-miss, but the practice tests he provides are invaluable. Engage with the material, and unstuck study can be a lifesaver for study prep.
I stopped going to lectures half way through as they were not that helpful, spend the time looking at his notes and doing the work at the same time and that's all you need. Tests are online but during the normal class period (50min) it goes by very quickly so stay focused but it's an easy pass
He isn't a bad professor, however, I feel as if he could be a bit more understanding as far as grading goes. He can be a bit of a heavy grader along with the PLA's, just make sure you grasp the material, because they are quite meticulous and you could end up loosing up to 20 points for one question if your not careful.
Super easy. Open internet tests. Talks about China all the time. Watch out for differential functions in the wild. Very funny, lots of wise words and unsolicited advise. Only five HW assignments.
Tang is funny but he spends a lot of time talking about random stuff. His exams are open internet so they are essentially free. Nice guy but not the best at conveying information
I had Dalin for Calc IV and for ODE, he was very open about how strict he was in the past and in recent years has made great efforts to be more lenient and it paid off. Despite the random tangents, Dalin explained what he's expecting us to know for the exam even though it is open notes. The only downside is that his notes are kind of hard to read.
Very confusing during tests. Posted 3 different tests using the same email format, did the wrong one and wouldn't let me retake it. Besides that, easy class.
Hilarious guy, notes are somewhat hard to read, tests are open internet so free 100. Differential Equations in the wild will find you.
He's not particularly good at explaining things, so I stopped going to lectures. ODE is 100% learnable on your own. He said ai is allowed on tests, which is insane. To me it felt like cheating but you could use it, if you wanted.
