Intro class for Exercise Science major, there is a midterm, final and a career project (resume, cover letter and presentation). Easy class, you basically learn some of the major career paths in the field and how to create your presentation which is 40% of your grade. Midterm and Final are straight from powerpoints, book not required.
Extremely laid back, sometimes too laid back. Would take him again if needed, due to my advanced knowledge in the industry, I did not take much away from his class.
Very knowledgeable, He definitely knows what he's talking about but I WILL never take him again. I hated how he taught the course. Most of the semester I felt entirely lost. The class lacked proper structure. However his class was fairly easy. 5 short quizzes, a detailed exercise/nutrition journal of 5 weeks and a final exam make up your grades.
Terrible. It shouldn't have to be the last 3 classes to try and change things around. Class is split in half where half the class comes then switch and go to the gym. 2 maybe 3 lectures where you go over material. 1 exam (good luck) and a gym journal. Never would recommend him to anyone.
Excellent teacher. Knowledgeable, easy to listen to. You actually come out of this class having learned something.
Was surprised to see this low of a rating. He is one of the only professors left in this major that actually care about What he teaches to students. He practices what he preaches. While most classes now in the program uforntunately blend together he managed to add something fresh and new. Easy A too if you put effort. 100% recommend.
I highly recommend taking this professor! Not only does his class really inspire you for your future endeavors, but he helps prepare you for what's to come and helps you apply what you've learned. He is knowledgeable on the topics he discusses, always willing to answer questions, and his class is very helpful for this field of study.
I would definitely recommend. The class is made up of 6 quizzes, 1 group presentation and a final. You shouldn't have trouble passing any of the quizzes as long as you study. Attendance is mandatory, but he makes the content relatable and gives real world examples on how we can apply the information to our benefit, which makes class worth it.
Great teacher, Mr Oliver can relate to us student. He wants student to succeed, come to class you will have all the material to pass. I just have problem with the quizzes they not hard just wish they were multiple choice. Less quizzes maybe a written assignment next time to help those are not good test taker.
Good teacher! Quizzes, group presentation and final exam are the only grades. Also extra credit, thank god! Sometimes he makes things more difficult than they need to be. Overall go to class and study for the quizzes and you'll do good
He's honestly one of the only caring professors when it comes to not only exercise science and prevention, but on career building as well. I Gave a 2 on Easiness because it by all means its an easy B. But to get an A you can only miss 6 points all semester. he gives an EC assignment worth 10 points.
Great instructor, able to connect core concepts. However can get a little intimidating but overall good teacher.
Really makes sure that his students understand what he's going over that day. Quizzes aren't multiple choice but aren't that bad; just hate that he goes over another lecture and waits until the end of class to give his quizzes. Easy B, but gotta work for that A by doing well on quizzes and taking the presentation seriously cause he's a tough critic
Professor Oliver was a great teacher and was willing to explain his powerpoints in depth with real clinical cases. He is a fair grader and if you pay attention it should not be a challenging course. Also he is very willing to help if you ask. One of the better teachers in our program, very knowledgeable in his field.
Great class, very informative and clear that he knows his stuff.
I actually enjoyed this class more than others. Excellent material that I will later on use down the road in my career possibly. I would take another class with him.
He can be unclear as to what EXACTLY he is looking for in group activities or what should be expected in the group presentation. His intro class was super easy. This class took more effort and studying, but the 6 quizzes weren't too bad.(memorization)(1 final) Goes out of his way to help with your career you're interested in and truly cares.
Good teacher overall, very willing to help students. It is cool how he is about helping his students succeed and giving them opportunity in the field of Exercise Science. His grading can be unclear but just do the work and do well on the quizzes. Make sure to study to do well because they are mostly filling in blanks. Very good class and lectures.
He is a really good teacher and is always willing to explain more if needed. He makes the class more of a real world application which helps in the long run. Great teacher!
Professor Oliver is not a hard professor but he demands effort out of you and I suppose that can be hard for some. He is clear in his directions and he expects alot out of his class. The issues he gets onto people about will mostly likely be an issue you'll experience in a job so he's helping you ahead of time. Don't take it personally.
Professor Oliver was very clear with his information and the facts he knew. He likes to have the class involved in discussion to make it more of a practical learning process.
Professor Oliver is very educated. He uses a lot of diagrams and graphs which he drew himself (modern day Picaso) Everything you learn in his class you will use it in real life. Didn't need to buy a textbook so saves you money. All his lectures are slides and he will give them to you to study for.
His drawings are amazing, he is the Michaelangelo of our time
Great teacher but sometimes his lectures in my opinion run too long because he trys to make sure he is being very clear but sometimes ends up repeating himself. Great artist also
He will stay after class if you have questions which is quite nice. Sometimes he tends to repeat himself though which can be quite tedious. I would definitely take him again though, great teacher/great guy. The exam review for the final was not helpful at all, he had us come up with questions lol. was hoping he would say what to focus on for final
Cares about his students, offers extra credit. If you study you will do fine. Offers real world relatable examples which are great and informative. I would take him again for another class. Quizzes are a combo of short answer and multiple choice. Really knows his stuff.
Good class, study and you can earn an A
He is a great teacher and I would definitely take him again. He really knows his stuff and doesn't read straight from the slides. You must go to class but it is never longer than an hour or two. As long as you pay attention and review for his quizzes you'll be fine. He also offers extra credit which can be a big grade booster.
Kinda likes to drag on with personal stories but most of the time it relates to the topic. He's really straight forward in what he's looking for and what will be on quizzes. Go to class, read over the powerpoints and pay attention! You'll be fine!
I never rated a professor before but professor Dalton is the man! Just attend class and listen to what he says he tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes/final. He is always there for extra help and puts what we learn into real life application. Favorite professor in the major thus far , would definitely retake him.
He's very passionate about he does. If you are too, his class will be a breeze. He's helpful and answers any question you might have. His class is lecture heavy, but you stay entertained the entire time. Awesome dude.
Lectures practically are never ending, be prepared for your butt to cramp. Quizzes arent too difficult, but he is specific with grading. You think you got an A but you actually got an F. There is a group project that isnt too hard. Offers extra credit.
Has a different approach to teaching than most of the other professors. Definitely cares about his students and what he is teaching. Forces us to take what we've learned from past courses and put it to more of a practical application. Be sure to attend class & pay attention. The book is helpful but not absolutely necessary. Plus, he's super hot.
He is very knowledgeable of the course material. You must study to do well on quizzes. The presentation is with a group and is nothing to stress over.
I had Dalton for PAPM. He has 6 quizzes that are heavily weighted, a presentation, a final & extra credit assignment. The quizzes are short answer, but he tells you exactly what to study. He challenges his students to apply the information given & use critical thinking skills while also keeping the lecture enjoyable. I def. recommend taking him!
This class was basically an over view of Special Pops but he put it in a more practical sense. All the quizzes were on stuff we went over in class and he always marked on the slides what could "possibly be a test question" and it almost always was. Go to class, try a little, he is great.
Overall he is a good professor. He gives you all the tools you need to pass the class, but it's up to you how well you do in the class. The extra credit is only for people who show up to class. If you miss more than 1 class, there is no extra credit available. His quizzes are heavily graded, they make up 60% of your grade and there are 6 quizzes.
Overall it is great to know that he is passionate about teaching. However, the structure of the class is built on a basis of application. The quizzes you take will weigh heavy on your overall grade but doing great in this class is achievable as long as you understand and can apply your knowledge to the real world/quiz questions.
We were told at the onset of the class that we would be tested on our ability to think critically, yet the quizzes were verbatim from his slides marked as "possible test questions". The quizzes are very heavily weighted so if you study his slides you will do fine. Dalton is an extremely personable and funny at times, but his lectures can drag on.
This professor is OK, I would not recommend taking him. He is very passionate about what he does but his lectures are too long for the length of his power points and the simplicity of the material. He tends to add allot of his own personal, subjective opinions and he can be uptight at times when it comes to attending class and leaving early. TBH
This class isn't too hard, but you have to study. All his quizzes (6) are critical thinking so you have to know the information to do well. His lectures are kind of boring and can drag out. But go to class because extra credit is offered!
Really passionate about Sports & Exercise Science but his lectures are a drag. He lost me in the first 10 minutes of lecturing & if you look around class, you will see that he lost everyones attention too because they're all on their phone. 6 quizzes worth 60% of your grade, group project, & final. The class will be hard if you don't study.
Lectures last 3 hours long, quizzes are super specific, group project and extra credit.
Quiz grades are key, If you don't do well on them you won't do well in the class. He gives you the answer for the quiz on the powerpoints, you just have to review for it beforehand. Overall, a good instructor that's gotten better every time I've had him.
Made an attempt to go beyond what most UCF teachers normally do and in that respect I give him credit. Execution of this principle lacked as often times I had no idea what he wanted us to learn or what to take away from his lectures. Honestly think he set up students to fail by having so few points in the class one bad quiz can make or break you.
You must attend class! Make sure you study for quizzes since most of the questions are free response. His lectures do tend to drag on.
Study for quizzes and you will pass the class.
Powerpoint lectures in class, write-in quizzes and mandatory attendance.
He is okay just need to make sure that you know your stuff. Other than that he is a great teacher and I give him all my respect I would recommend him to anyone that plans on taking this class
There's not a lot of grades most of it is the quizzes which are typically hard and based off the power points
its a fair class but you will have to actually learn not just copy and paste like the typical classes
No textbook needed, quizzes are a very heavy part of your grade but he gives hints as to what will be covered and they prep you for your final. He has a lot of knowledge and sometimes doesn't know when to stop dispensing it, but it is beneficial in the long run. He's very helpful one on one and cares about his students
Awesome professor. Really down to earth. Sets you up for success the right way which means you will not always get the grades you want. He will reasonably challenge you. I wish I had him for other classes.
I dont recommend taking a class with Prof Oliver, his grading criteria is difficult to understand, his powerpoints/lectures are confusing and he does not give good feedback. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about but he did not portray the information well to the class and is not the most approachable person when it comes to questions
Powerpoint lectures in class makes his own power point to help with learning, 4 write-in quizzes and mandatory attendance. Group project and an individual intervention assigned.
There is no textbook required for this class. The quizzes are a very heavy part of your grade but he gives hints as to what will be covered and they prep you for your final. He has a lot of knowledge but sometimes just goes off topic. He is very helpful one on one, but not very clear with his announcements but replies quick to emails.
Long lectures but tries to help you by putting in diagrams into the power points. And gives you hints onot what will be on the quizzes. Gives good feed back on what to do to improve. But confuses many with his announcements and rubrics
An overall good professor that makes you work for your grade and actually learn the information. Gives good feedback on your work which really helps. My only issue is the grading system because every point matters. The quizzes take a huge part of the grade but gives hints to what will be on it. The power points could be explained a little better.
Class was ok. Dalton is very knowledgeable but speaks in a monotone that made staying awake difficult for me plus lectures are long. Quizzes are straight from the power points. Don't bother getting the book I never opened it once. He's very open to students and good at giving feedback, but I personally didn't find the class interesting.
The class was not bad at all. The 2 major assignments he leaves you a lot of wiggle room to explore and make it your own which can be really good for researching different things and what not but I personally like having a stricter rubric to make sure I am hitting all the points I need to be hitting. The lectures are kind of hard to get through.
2 Big projects that you want to make sure you stay on top of. The rubrics are hard to understand, but don't be afraid to ask him for clarifications. He's big on your professionalism so be prepared for presentations. Quizzes are doable, be sure to study the highlighted material in the lectures.
Dalton is a good professor overall. He is not very specific on what he wants when he comes to projects, but as long as it is well thought out you shouldn't have a problem getting an A on them. He also gives very good feedback. He tries to prepare for the future, and the class isn't an easy A. The quizzes are hard, pay attention in class.
Overall, I didn't enjoy this class. The professor didn't teach to the course description, which was unsetting. Major assignments include an intervention, which is great for athletic training, and a group project, which very little instruction is given on. Quizzes that are reasonable if you study the power points. Feedback isnt always clear.
I would not recommend taking this class there are four quizzes, two major assignments that make up your grade and the grading criteria for these are not clear so if you mess up there goes your grade. This professor is not the most approachable or helpful when it comes to questions.
He is good professor, but he makes you work for the grade you want. He doesn't offer cut and dry instructions because he really wants you to use what you know to help you in life and not just class. He is tough in this aspect, but it's worth it, and he really cares that his students do well in the real world and wants to prepare them for it.
Lectures are long, must be in class to understand the power points. Professor is knowledgeable but the lectures were not relevant to the course. Very few assignments. The class was not very enjoyable.
He was a good professor that is very passionate about what he teaches. Showing up to his lectures is very important because his PowerPoints are very vague and his quizzes are based off of his PowerPoints. He is a fan of group projects.
I enjoyed Prof. Oliver's class for the most part. He is very knowledgable about what he covers and talks about his experience in the field. His rubrics are slightly open ended for the most part but allows you to be creative in your work. He won't spoon feed you answers and wants you to think critically, which I liked. He is helpful and knowledgable
I enjoyed Prof. Oliver's class for the most part. He is very knowledgeable about what he covers and talks about his experience in the field. Rubrics are slightly open ended for the most part but allows. He won't spoon feed you answers and wants you to think critically. I specifically enjoyed the intervention project.
He was a pretty good professor. Lectures are long and going to class is a must to understand material. Two big projects, not very clear on grading criteria. There are four quizzes throughout the semester. He makes you work for your grade. Overall it wasn't that bad of an experience.
Dalton Oliver is a good professor overall. There are two projects and they are weighted heavy. They are poorly explained, so do asks questions about them. He gives good feedback. He tries to prepare you for the future. The quizzes are hard, so pay attention in class.
Lectures are really long, must be in class to understand the power points due to lots of randomly made slides. Very few assignments. The class was not very enjoyable.
Dalton is a cool, young guy who demands his students prepare for life after college. Although stye quizzes are powerpoint specific, they are still worth studying for. The intervention and presentations were actually interesting unlike other classes! 9/10 would recommend!
You can tell that he cares about our future and wants us to succeed. But he test and quizzes are very hard. Prepare to study. He is also a hard grader when it comes to giving presentations.
Initially the course seemed a bit intimidating however Dalton has a great personality and is extremely well spoken, quite captivating. I don't think any other professor gives feedback that is as meaningful as his. Apply yourself and you will do well, few assignments so it should not be that difficult. Very concise.
He can be very unclear when it comes to directions of projects. The problem is not the teacher, as it is the class in general. It really is just more of what you learn in every other class in the major. The one thing I can say for sure is out of any teacher I have had professor Oliver gives some of the most helpful feedback.
This teacher was on point. He has long lectures but they help with the short weekly quizzes that he gives and he is clear about what to study for them. Otherwise there's one group project, which is graded quite fairly. And he gives great feedback for them. No tests, just a final. Good choice!
If you study for his quizzes, you'll do well. Quizzes are majority of the grade, fail those you will probably get a bad grade.
There is a presentation, intervention, interview packet, 4 quizzes and a final, so every grade counts. The professor means well and wants you to succeed but will make you work for your grade too. Isn't the best at giving good direction on an assignment, left me more confused after asking a question. Over all good teacher and would take again.
Oliver may come off like a jerk, but he actually is a very good teacher who really cares about the students moving forward in their field and gives great feedback about things and how we can apply them to our life.
Lectures are very long. They have a lot information in them which makes it difficult for quizzes. Will give a lot of hints at what is on the quizzes but many topics. Leaves projects open ended which is good but also bad if you need any structure for a class. Fair grader and gives great feedback but the projects have minimal structure. He helps you
Really great class overall. Not your cookie cutter PET class where professors beat to death the same material covered in previous courses. Go to his lectures! He provides a deeper look into the course material and forces you to use critical thinking. His quizzes will be difficult if you do not study/understand the lectures. Would take him again!
So coming into this class I thought it was going to be pretty easy. If you go to class and actually pay attention and have good work ethic you are bound to get an A. One thing though he could have spreaded the assignments out more. Other then that it was a very informational class, not like the other classes in my major which are repetitive info.
First off, he actually cares, but to most students he seems too intimidating, a hardcore "bro". He is a little sarcastic, but is attempting to teach real world problem solving. His organization leaves room for improvement. First half of semester is all lectures, then packet, intervention presentations and quizzes the second half. Then a final.
All the work is towards the end of the semester, quizzes are very specific. Open ended questions. Good guy, just getting his groove.
Tough tests, listen in class, pay attention to his possible test questions on his PowerPoints and you'll do fine. Short answer questions most of the time, subjective, good feedback though
Lots of info, knows his material. Ask questions if you get lost.
Oliver is a solid professor that cares about what you get from the class and wants you to be prepared for the job force outside of school. His quizzes require you to study and not just listen in class, you have to know your stuff because he gets very specific.
This class was kind of all over the place. Oliver is very knowledgeable, but makes the info hard to enjoy. Assignments are not spread out and a lot of lecture time is spent in groups doing random things to turn in for no points. Group project and intervention take up a lot of time, but he does not grade harshly. Quizzes are tougher than expected.
He is a cool dude. He goes above and beyond. Glad I took him for this course, like said by someone else, definitely not the cookie cutter PET class. Enjoyed the in depth lectures.
Can have vague rubrics, but gives extremely valuable feedback when it comes to assessment. Not many assignments, so quizzes and exams count fairly heavily.
You have to work for an A. Grade is comprised of a two part intervention, a final project, and quizzes. People find his class difficult because his teaching style is unique. He focuses on key concepts and not memorizing. His assignments are challenging because he leaves so much up to interpretation and open ended, where as I prefer more specific.
Very knowledgeable on the subject of exercise science and it's elements. As an instructor I feel he does an effective job communicating concepts and info he feels are valuable of the course. When evaluating asgmnts, I feel he should put more stock into the students' understanding of concepts and material covered in class when considering the grades
He has a very different teaching style than the other professors in the major but not in a bad way. He knows his stuff and gives really good feedback if you take the time to ask. If you are lazy and don't put any effort in you will not do well, but that is usually with any class. Pay attention and you'll learn a lot from him. Awesome professor!
Knows what he is talking about & has a lot of experience in this field. For an intro class, powerpoints are poorly explained (makes his own charts/graphs & doesnt explain what arrows/stars mean, as if we should know what hes referring to) Midterm & final are the main grades, & over half my class failed mid term, so for the final we get to use notes
