He has a heavy accent so it will take a while to get use too. 3 exams 3 quizzes about 10 HWs. if you know a little about econ then it should be a easy A and dont have to pay attention if you take a 8am you will fall asleep i promise
Dr. Uprety is a pretty easy going genuine person. He has a very thick accent so it can be difficult to understand him at times, but he knows this which is why he repeats himself often. 10 homeworks, 3 quizzes, 3 tests, is the entire semester. He lectures the entire class and if you come to class, do the homework, study it... you should get an A.
Professor Uprety is nice and really does care about his students but I would not recommend him as a professor. He spends half the class trying to draw graphs often to have students correct him. He can be hard to understand and although he is an intelligent man, he is not the best teacher. Beware of grading errors.
Very nice man that wants you to pass his class. I had him his first semester at UNCW so he struggled with a few things, but way better than some of my other first year starting professors. Lectures every class, but if you write down what he writes you'll be fine. Quizzes & Tests exactly like the HWs... sooo it's pretty easy to get an A.
Show up and take notes, the homework, quizzes and tests are exactly the same as what he teaches. Participate in class and you'll be better off. Book really isn't needed unless you like studying from it. I used it all but 5 times the whole semester. He has a super thick accent but just ask him to repeat it and he will. He wants students to pass
Uprety much suck at teaching. It is not the fact he is really hard to understand, or the fact that his examples are scribbled senselessly all over the board, it is the complete lack of passion in every day he teaches. He singles students out by asking nonsense questions that are off topic and if you get it wrong he won' tell you the answer! beware
Hard to understand a times and gets confused but is super helpful explaining things
Dr. Uprety is by far the best teacher i''ve had at UNCW. He has a thick accent, but with time you get used to it. He is very helpful and wants you to do well! I highly recommend!
Professor Dambar is passionate about what he is doing and cares about his students. The material is kinda easy but if you don't listen in class, things get confusing. The workload is regular with 10 homeworks, 3 quizzes and 3 exams plus final. He got a good sense of humor and I would take him again.
This guy is the best. He has a really thick accent that some people don't like but after the first week its not hard to understand. Cares about his students, easy class, and clear grading criteria. I also thought he was funny.
Is always accessible, office hours/ email etc. very nice professor that is dedicated to what he does.
Professor Dambar is very nice and knowledgeable on the subject. Very attentive to student's needs and easy to reach outside of the classroom. Responds to emails very quickly and will go in depth about any concept to students who don't understand. Go to class and you will do fine! Homework and quizzes are easy, make sure you study the material.
This class is a great Econ class, it is as easy or difficult as you make it. This professor gives you the tools to be successful but if you don't take advantage of them it is easy to have your grade slip. He will prepare you for every quiz and test and as long as you do the practice problems and go to lectures you shouldn't have any problems.
Professor Uprety is super helpful especially when you talk to him outside of class. He is super willing to help and really wants you to do well in the class. Take it in the spring because he gives you a lot of extra credit for going to business lectures during business week. If you pay attention and do the homework you will do fine in the class.
Professor Uprety is an excellent teacher. At times he can be hard to understand but if you really focus in class you will be able to understand the material. If you go to him outside of class he is great at helping you understand confusing concepts
Professor Dambar is a very educated professor who trys to help his students out as much as possible. If you go to class and pay attention then you'll be fine. Do the homework and the practice problems before quizzes/tests.
Dr. Uprety is the BEST professor i've had at UNCW. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help, he'll even meet with you on the weekends! He has made economics very enjoyable. I highly recommend him, you won't regret taking his classes!
Had Uprety for Micro, Great professor was great at getting all the information across to the class. Make sure to take time out of class to make sure his students understand the material are covering in class. Loved the class and this professor.
I can only speak volume towards this professor. He is extremely knowledgeable about the material that he presents to class. He has a unique way to explain all subject so that everyone in class can understand the material. No matter what type of learning style you have, I can guarantee that you will be able to gain tremendous value from his lectures

As a biology major going into a business class, I was very nervous. Dr. Uprety made it very easy to understand everything that was going on. He always went over the questions that students didn't understand and cleared up any confusion. I would definitely recommend going to class because you'll really benefit from seeing the problems being done out
Knowledgable teacher who was always willing to meet with students
Always willing to help.
As long as you show up you should be fine. Provides you with tons of extra credit to help boost your grade!
Professor Uprety is a great professor, and a very funny man.
Uprety was a great teacher the whole semester! There is attendance, 10 homework's, 5 quizzes or so, and 2 tests with a final. He makes the homework easy as he goes over the questions during his lectures. The quizzes are straightforward and come from the homework and lectures as well. He really cares about his students and even offers extra credit!!
I wouldn't choose another professor to take an economics class with. I was originally anticipating taking the class because I felt it would be hard. Professor Uprety helped us understand and get through everything clearly.
Professor Uprety is a great teacher who cares and is willing to help his students. Accent is hard to understand at first but you will catch on. Great teacher!
Professor Uprety is an awesome teacher that cares for his students and want to see his students succeed. He is very understanding and goes over the content at an easy pace. I wouldn't choose any other teacher to take ECN 221 with. If you are looking to take ECN 221 next semester I would pick professor Uprety without a doubt.
It's easy to get an A if you review all the practice problems given. It's useful to show up to class because some of the notes help. However, Uprety frequently messes up on practice problems done in class. So he'll do problems completely wrong, realize he made a mistake, and then not go back and fix it. This lead to a lot of confusion
Uprety is a great teacher! He makes everything so simple!! 10/10 would recommend! He cares a lot for his students and that they learn the material. He will meet up with you anytime if you have questions! Plus he doesn't make you buy the textbook!
Great teacher who really explains his lectures in a clear way. Would recommend. As long as you do the homework, you will be fine!
Really hot and on top of that hes actually a good teacher
I plan on taking professor Uprety again. He was a very good teacher and is very good at explaining the material that he teaches. I highly recommend him to anyone. I was nervous about taking macro economics and did very well because of him. Take him!
It is very hard to understand what he says because of his accent. The lectures are sometimes hard to keep track of since he moves around a lot. The answer keys to the practice problems are often incorrect and he has to later change them. Creates confusion.
Dr. Uprety is a good teacher. The class is an easy A as long as you pay attention in class and study the practice problems. Professor Uprety's accent can be difficult to understand, and sometimes things get lost in translation. The textbook is not required, but does help to clear up the things that get lost in translation. Overall, great teacher.
Dr. Uprety is one of the best professors I have had at UNCW. He is very helpful and will meet with you anytime you need help. I would 100% recommend him for ECN
Interesting and very important clas, very good instructor with a lot of knowledge. Always available out school hours, I personally asked him for help many times on weekends and he was right there answering my questions. That means a lot; Very respectful and care
Excelent teacher
Dambar Uprety is a really good professor; he mixed both technical and practical knowledge in our class making it more interactive. This has help me to understand the business around the globe in a fun way. Also, he is very kind to al of us, try to resolve all of our problems when he can and it is very excited about all the topics which makes us mor
I really liked Dambar Uprety's teaching style because it makes it easy to understand the subject and motivates students to learn more about International Business. He combines theoretical and practical activities in his classes, which is very useful, and he is a very kind person who is always willing to help students and answer their questions.
I had Professor Dambar for ECON 222 in the fall of 2017 and it was one of my favorite classes. He is quite funny and he teaches well but you definitely have to get used to his accent. He gives out practice problems that he chooses the test problems and it really helps a lot. Pay attention and do the practice problems and you'll do fine.
Dambar is a teacher that really takes care of his students and wants them to have As, and helps a lot with extra credit. He always gives practice problems and essay questions before the exams so we can study from there and have a good grade.
He is a great professor, he is very straight forward and gives good study guides for exams. decent amount of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Uprety is a great professor. He has a bit of an accent but is easy to understand after the first few classes. He gives you access to practice problems that will help you prepare for the quizzes and exams. He also gives you extra credit opportunities!
Dr. Uprety definitely wants his students to pass and is clearly very knowledgable on economics. Tough to sit through because it was an 8 AM, but if you read over the study guide and practice questions, you'll be fine. He speaks good English but his accent is super thick.
Solid Teacher, knows his stuff. Explains his material well and does an overall good job in class and he helps you with problems you have and makes the interesting and for tough a subject he makes things a little easier
This professor gives extra credit to his students that give him good reviews. I have never met a more incompetent professor in my life, and I firmly believe that he is unqualified to teach this class. His lectures are difficult to follow due to his thick accent. He combined 2 of his classes for a group project which was a nightmare in so many ways.
Dr. Uprety is a caring professor and is always available to students. He does lecture the majority of class time and has a heavy accent, but he will happily repeat anything you didn't understand. At the beginning of his class, he'll let you vote for xculture or his own class project- pick the xculture! It's a great experience and builds your resume
Professor Uprety was a decent professor but expects you to memorize more than 100 questions for exams but only has 20 on the exam. Gives a couple points for extra credit and wants you to do well!
Avoid this class at all costs. Trust me!
Avoid this class because of X-CULTURE PROJECT. You will work with a group students from other countries who WILL either not help your or QUIT before the assignment is due. It doesn't matter if it wasn't your fault you will have to bear the responsibility for others actions. AVOID
He provides the necessary materials in order to prepare you fairly for the exams. Gives you dates for quizzes ahead of time. Also does an international project that provides you with a certificate in the end.
Dr. Uprety is a very caring professor and you can tell he really loves what he teaches. One particular part of the class that I enjoyed was the X-culture project. It puts you in a group with people from other countries and you have to collaborate with time differences and tasks just like you were in a real international corporation.
Really great class to take , would really recommend!
Everything expected of you is clearly laid out in detail. He is very good at explaining the material. The project is very interesting and you can learn a lot from it. Also, it looks great on a resume! Taking this class proved to be very informative and I would highly recommend taking it!
Take notes and you will do well.
Hes a very caring professor and wants his students to succeed. There is an X-Culture project in which you work with other kids around the world, very interesting and eye opening.
This was my least favorite professor this semester. He is not a bad guy, but your actual knowledge of the material is never tested. He will test you on months worth of material, but only ask 20 multiple choice questions with very similar answer choices. If youre a great standard test taker, then you will be fine. If not, avoid this professor.
Attendance was optional but you'll regret it if you don't go. He's very willing to meet outside of class and really wants all students to succeed. Do the homework and quizzes. Very willing to give extra credit. If you show up and do the work it should be an easy A!
He told our class he would add 20 points extra credit to the final grade (yes we were in disbelief so we made sure he clarified.) Then, he decided to add the extra credit points to the different exams we took. He is a nice guy but his emails are rude at times. Exams are all multiple choice but I definitely suggest going to class if you want to pass
I wouldn't take him for Econ. Literally haven't learned a thing in the class. He doesn't really care about much and he doesn't really make any sense.
Going to class will not help you at all and attendance isn't taken. Lectures are very confusing. You wil have a quiz and homework assignment once a week. Most of the test questions come from quiz and homework questions. You should be able to pass the class with an A or B, but if you really want to learn the material don't take Uprety.
It isn't really his fault, but you can barely understand him. This really makes it hard to learn with him and I ended up teaching myself the entire class. He is very intelligent, but his communication skills are just very lacking. He is also pretty confusing. Do not take this class unless you are willing and able to teach yourself
He is the worst professor I've ever had and I had a lot. His lectures are basically some pages of the book in his own words with weird drawings on the board. He can't answer specific questions. You need to find the answers of the homework on your own because he doesn't cover it at all in his lectures (quizlet helps). He calls out students in class.
Very hard to understand and gets frustrated when no one knows what he said though he claims he is patient. Told us to take the course eval at the end of the semester but we weren't allowed to do it if we were gonna criticize him. No one knew the material only class I didnt get an A. We are all convinced he gave himself good reviews on here.
Love Uprety! The lectures are long but exams are not difficult and their are always reviews before. Tests are all online in class! Would totally recommend and take him again.
Professor Uprety did everything he possibly could to be a good professor - and it shows. He was always available for extra help, flexible with each student as they needed it, and extremely approachable. Although attendance is not mandatory, I found that it helped a lot to go to the lectures.
I had a great experience taking ECN 222 with Dambar, I would definitely take it again. It was easy to keep up with the subject and he was always willing to help the students. There is extra credit opportunities in this class, which really helps as well. I would take him for sure again!
Great professor overall. Many extra credit opportunities. Hard to understand sometimes, but you learn a lot. Suggest going to class even though its not mandatory because youll learn what you need to know for the homework and tests.
Professor Uprety is a great specialist of his field. He gave true to life examples for the course material which made it easier to understand some of the complicated economics and finance concepts.
Professor Uprety is a very intelligent professor who wants his students to succeed. If you put forth the work, he is more than willing to help you. He gives weekly homework and quizzes that can be confusing and challenging, but he is always available during office hours and is willing to help.
He covers a lot of ground and if you are able to learn all of it, it will be very helpful and you will understand Economics much better. He uses predominantly multiple choice but some of the questions are tricky but it's good to be challenged.
Dr. Uprety is a good professor in that he wants students to succeed and gives extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. He is also very responsive to emails and willing to help. He is also very intelligent. I would recommend taking this class since it is not too little nor too much work and the tests are not cumulative which is nice.
Dambar was not at all a good professor, the worst I ever had in four years at UNCW. He was nigh on impossible to understand, routinely got grilled by his students and just had no idea how to teach the material despite his obvious intelligence. At least his final wasn't cumulative, and the exams were online...
Professor Uprety is almost impossible to understand. Class is not mandatory, but now even worth going you can't understand him. If you need to be taught the material do not take this class. You have to learn on your own or you will not understand any of the material.
His English is not very clear and confused many students trough oral communication and emails alike. During review sessions, he would often become confused teaching his own material! Students would have to remind him what he said in class and remind him how to work his own problems. The workload for this class was unnecessarily heavy.
Take this class if you not a great test-taker.
Dr. Uprety is extremely difficult to understand. He is an intellectual, however, the language barrier is challenging to overcome. Can seem demeaning at times. Ask lots of questions to clarify what's being said and take good notes in his lectures. Visit office hours if struggling. Occasionally gives extra credit.
He was a good professor and provided many opportunities for extra credit. The tests were non cumulative which was helpful and we had review sessions to help us learn about economics.
Hard to understand at times and doesn't give good feedback. It was often unclear the types of answers he wanted to see on his assignments. He got mixed up with his own examples easily which made it hard to learn for a student who was already struggling to understand what he was teaching.
Professor Uprety is an intelligent guy its his teaching style that I dislike. He is just everywhere and the examples he uses during lecture are weird. He used meat and potatoes to compare money and quantity produced. He isn't a bad guy just not the right teacher for me to learn a subject I already have trouble understanding. Tests are difficult.
Dr. Uprety is from Nepal, so he has an accent, but his lectures are very easy to understand. He puts everything you need to know on the board before every class, and works through lectures in a very organized and easy-to-understand way. He is the opposite of the professors that just read powerpoints off of the slides. Very solid professor.
Dr. Uprety is very knowledgeable in economics. The class is graded between exam 1, exam 2, final exam, and homework, each worth 25%. It isn't too hard of a class. My advice would be to take notes in the lectures and study the homework for the exams.
Dr. Uprety is an extremely compassionate and intelligent professor. He is very responsive to questions during and outside of class. He will invest as much time in you as you invest into the class. You will need to attend class if you want to make a good grade, as this class is not an easy A, you must work and earn your grade. Would take again!
Professor Dambar Uprety is a great professor. His lectures are super clear and he explains everything very well. The homework assignments are easy if you go to class, but still doable if you dont go. The textbook provides more explanation and practice, but I wouldnt say its required to pass the class. Overall, I loved the class.
Take notes or you will fail. His accent is slightly thick but if you sit up close you will do fine! Do not sit in the back and expect him to take the time to repeat himself. He does speak fast at times. He is willing to help and in emergencies will be lenient.
Do NOT take this class. By far one of the worst professors at UNCW.
I'm no economist, I just took an intro class as a requirement for my major. Professor Uprety's class was clear cut. He is very understanding and flexible with students. He wants everyone to do well so it's easy to get a good grade.
I took Dr. Uprety for an introductory ECON 221 class. The course material can be a little difficult but with his notes, it becomes easy to grasp. He is a great teacher and very understanding of your situation. Not too much work either. Overall if your taking ECON 221 you definitely should try and take it with Uprety!
In this class you need to work for the grade. Exams count for a lot. 25% each. Lecture PowerPoints were very confusing but Uprety was willing to answer questions.
Lectures are sometimes hard to understand but professor is willing to explain things to you.
He is a great professor. I took this class as an elective for my major, not because Im into business or economics and he made it really easy to understand. If you have any questions about anything, he has multiple ways you can contact him and is more than willing to help. Grading is based off of homework and a few exams. Great professor.
I loved taking this class, it was challenging but interesting. The grading criteria is very clear, the homework and tests are pretty easy and straightforward if you take notes and listen to the lectures. Dr. Dambar is willing to answer any questions you have and is very helpful. The book helped me a lot too when I was confused on certain topics.
Great professor! Dr. Dambar has in-depth knowledge on the subject and is very understanding and flexible. Lectures can be hard sometimes, but he is willing to help you. Very accessible before and after class to answer questions. The grading criteria is very easy and straight forward. Exams are easy if you take notes!!
Watch the lecture videos, take good notes and put forth your effort and he will help you all the way. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he is very good at making anything easier to understand!
This course was not hard. However, if its online make sure to watch the prerecorded lectures, he provides valuable information for the homeworks each week! Not a large workload per week which is nice!
I had a great time in his class and even though it was online he still communicated very well.
I would recommend Uprety. There are not a ton of grades but if you do your homework and follow the study guide then your grade will reflect that.
If you need this course for a GED or major requirement I would definitely recommend it. If you keep up with notes from watching the lectures you will nail all of the quizzes, tests, and finals. Gives real good feedback in a quick manner.
Dr. Uprety understands that economics can be difficult to understand so he is very happy to help you with any questions you may have. There is a decent amount of work but watch the lecture videos and do the homework, and ASK QUESTIONS, and you will have a good semester.
This prof is super sweet and accommodating and the class was not difficult at all.
He was very accommodating to a personal issue this semester. Answered all my questions and his lecture flows right for the exams/hw. Take notes and you may not need the textbook.
Gives solid feedback and made sure he was always available for classmates if they had questions or concerns. Also, provided solid study material in advance of tests/exams!
