Assigns minimal homework, aside from a bit of reading. Just go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine.
Very engaging in lecture, class was easy. Show up and take notes.
If you want a class where attendance doesnt matter, and you really like to read, this one is for you. If you want to actually learn, dont take it.
Dr. Bach is very passionate about history and loves teaching it. But, lectures are often pretty boring, which has been my experience with every history class. You have to read three books and take a quiz over each one. That was pretty easy. And tests are straight from lectures. Not a difficult class.
He is very passionate about the subject. I struggled with the tests and quizzes. Only 3 tests but they cover a lot of information. Doesn't give any type of review for the test.
Bach is pretty chill. He'll make a joke once in a blue moon and is passionate about the topic. I've never been good at history, but in this class I finally understand it. As long as you pay attention in class you should be good!
Professor Bach really cares about his students, but his class isn't that great. His lectures are very boring & he can be hard to follow at times, but if you do the reading outside of class you should be fine.
Dr. Bach is very passionate about history and you can tell he enjoys teaching it. There are 3 books he requires you to read and 3 quizzes over each book. He also requires you write essays over 2 of the 3 books, which is what really saved my grade. His lectures were very boring but notes are a must to make a decent grade in this class.
Professor Bach is extremely passionate about history and really enjoys teaching it! His lectures are funny - bc he gets SO into them. However, your note-taking skills will be tested in this class since the tests are straight from his lectures. Make sure you make a buddy who takes good notes incase you miss a class! I would take him again!
This was his first semester teaching here, and he was an awesome Professor. 3 small books you have quizzes over, 2 analytical papers and 3 Exams. He doesn't post PP's online so make sure to take good notes in his lectures and pay attention and you should be good. Sometimes he'll get really into some subjects and he's dorky which is hilarious.
Dr. Bach was a great teacher; I've never truly been fond of history but he made it more than manageable. There were three books we had to read aside from the textbook, but they weren't bad at all. You have to write an essay on two of them. You'll also have a quiz for each. Take good notes and refer back to them when studying, and you will be fine.
This is an easy class. He makes lectures fun and entertaining. The 3 books he makes you read are not difficult and are interesting. I did not go to class all the time and still got an A.
Dr. Bach is a funny, educated history professor at TAMU. His lectures are purely from the textbook and does not post his lecture notes online. If you skip class, make sure you're keeping up with the content through the textbook. He has 3 books that each have a follow-up quiz, but very easy novels. There's one essay to write (maybe two).
Do yourself a favor and find a diff hist professor.
Spoke to fast that you couldn't take good notes.
If you read the three novels assigned and pay moderate attention during lecture you will get an A.
Dr. Bach is an awesome teacher, he is very lecture based so even missing one class can be detrimental. As long as you read the books he assigns the quizzes are super easy. I'm hoping to get him for my HIST 106 class.
Professor Bach's history 105 course was an easy B but requires some extra work to receive an A. His lectures are about as interesting as the history of the US up to 1887 can be. You can tell in his lectures that he cares about what he teaches.
Very nice teacher, always love comming to his lectures, he manages to make boring topics intresting. his stories he comes up with are hillarious as well. There will be 3 books you have to read but the quizes on them arent hard
Very lecture heavy. I bought the textbook for this class but didn't use it at all. Very lecture heavy all the test questions are taken from the lecture and he doesn't post them anywhere so go to class or find a friend to send you notes if you do miss class.
The lectures are the meat of the course. If you go to class, take good notes, and study said notes, you should get an A. The lectures are interesting and cover the material excellently, but he isn't the most entertaining professor on the block. I think he's also a social historian, or at least focuses on social aspects a great deal in the course.
Be prepared to read a lot, 3 books for quizzes and an analytical paper and the textbook for the tests. Attendance isnt mandatory but it helps if you go and take good notes. Good professor overall!
He is so monotone and boring. He takes long pauses in between sentences because he just prints textbook pages and reads straight from there. He gives off a Toby Flenderson kind of vibe and he doesnt post anything online.
Although Dr. Bach only assigns three exams and three book quizzes, they are very easy. I only show up to class on days where there is a test or quiz. Honestly, just read the textbook and books he assigns and you can easily get an A. He's funny, and reminds me of Toby from The Office.
Was a great professor. show up to class and take notes as his tests are lecture heavy. If you have solid noted, reading isn't necessary to make an A. His book quizzes are relatively straight forward and easy assuming you read the book lol.
Great professor very passionate about history, not extremely difficult if you go to class and pay attention and definitely read the books for the quizzes.
Go to class and you'll be okay if you get all the powerpoint notes. The textbook isn't mandatory, but goes along with the lectures if you need that extra boost. He tries to make the class interesting so going isn't hard. READ the books- 2/3 aren't on sparknotes and the quizzes WILL catch up to you (a big 45% of your grade)
Pretty good professor overall. The textbook isn't mandatory as long as you go to class. However, you definitely need to thoroughly read the 3 assigned books. 2/3 of them are NOT on sparknotes. Make a note of the dates of the quizzes and start reading well ahead of time!
Dr. Bach is really nice and his exams are multiple choice because he does not have TA's. Go to class AND read the textbook, my exam grade went up when I decided to open the book. He gives exams reviews the class before exam days, which were helpful and if you need help/not understanding the material he is there to help, BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK!
There are only 6 grades in this class, and each one counts. He's a pretty good lecturer and his tests and quizzes are not easy, but they are straight-forward. There aren't any trick questions or very specific details. Overall, he seems to care about how well his students do and he'll help you out if you really need it.
Tests are pretty easy. Just take decent enough notes during the lecture and you'll be fine.
Dr. Bach is a real solid choice when considering a HIST 105 professor. His lectures are PPT based but he elaborates on each point so make sure to take good notes. He often repeats or lists off important information that is mostly likely going to be on the test so pay attention and write it down! I would recommend him to anyone looking to take 105.
Three novels, I listened to the audiobooks and aced the quizzes for them. The exams are based mostly on the lectures. There will be a question or two from the textbook, but I never touched the textbook and still got A's on the exams. Unless you plan on reading the textbook, take good lecture notes.
Damon has to be my all time favorite teacher so far. If you enjoy history then this is the professor to have. D-Dogg lectures like no other and even throws in a funny story sometimes to keep things interesting. I am an engineer major and he made me consider switching to a history major. Definitely take this class if you get the chance
Dr. Bach is very passionate about history and you can see it in how he lectures. Very nice and caring professor. He doesn't post notes online so if you skip class you'll have to get notes from someone else. Tests are very lecture heavy so go to class. Has 3 quizzes over 3 novels, I got A's and I read the books. Very pleased with his class.
GO TO CLASS! Almost the entire test is comprised of material from class. Lectures are kind of boring, to be honest. But Dr. Bach is a cool guy and he rounded up my 89 to a 90.
Sips soda all through class like a boomer sipping monster, honestly a hilarious guy whether he wants to be or not. Quizzes are pretty heavily weighted into the final grade but if you read the book at all you'll be fine, he curves everything just a bit, but focus on the lectures and study. Only a few questions from the textbook but read the books.
Overall a pretty harmless class experience. Exams are almost entirely based on the lectures, so be sure to show up for class (the textbook is hardly used at all, so there's a chance to save some money). Professor Bach himself is a nice person, but the lectures he gives are kinda dry. Nothing too exciting, but still pretty far from a bad time.
I loved Bach, he was a great professor. He loves to tell stories and make jokes (that aren't the best loll). I highly recommend taking him, and I def wish I would have taken him for HIST 105. His exams are mainly over lecture, so take good notes! He has powerpoints too which are very helpful!
Bach is a super chill professor. His lectures can seem dry but he really knows what he's talking about. I never read the textbook and used sparknotes for the other books and did alright. He rounded my 88.8 up to an A without me asking. He's a great guy and I would recommend going to the lectures and reading so you get the most out of the class!
Dr. Bach only had 6 grades in, and if you don't read the books your grade will be pulled DOWN. Read the books and go to lecture! If you are not auditory learner, this will not be good option. PP slides have 4 sentences, and you listen for the rest. Must go to class but amount of assigned reading is a lot.
He's a great professor and he obviously knows a great deal about history. His lectures are a little dry but once you get into them it really isn't that bad. Dr. Back also really cares about his students and will help you as much as he can as long as you reach out to him. There are three books to read for this class, and if you don't you won't pass.
This class was asynchronous for me, but it was pretty easy. There are a lot of lectures, but if you stay up to date you will pass. He's easy to reach out to and offers extra credit. I also think he's pretty funny.
A lot of readings and lecture heavy! Three quizzes and three exams, harder than expected. Make sure you read the books required, it worth more than you think. Lectures are mostly 30 minutes and app. three a week. Lectures are boring and you need to take very good notes!!! Overall, don't very recommend taking.
Three tests over the lecture material which were pretty dry but otherwise easy enough to follow along, he gave us three "quizzes" over three different books which were weighted way way too much and basically forced us to read otherwise we'd fail his class. His course was asynchronous so easy enough to deal with, I couldn't imagine it synchronously.
Everyone complaining didn't do the literal bare minimum. Exams are pretty much word for word from the lectures, and the quizzes are super easy if you read the material - I also found all three books really interesting. He's entertaining and doesn't make learning about history boring. If you keep up with your work, you'll make an A.
Dr. Bach's lectures are very captivating and he likes to throw some random facts to make the class a bit more interesting. My only issue was that he assigned textbook reading besides from the lectures and I sometimes didn't have time to read the chapters. However, if you manage your time well in terms of the reading you should be able to get an A.
Dr. Bach's class is the definition of "show up and you'll pass". All of his exams have questions that are lifted word for word from the lectures and the book quizzes are really simple if you get the main idea of the books. The papers are a bit tricky to get right but it's not too bad. He's also a really entertaining lecturer and I enjoyed his class
Dr. Bach was great this semester. Only 3 tests and 3 quizzes over 3 books. He also offers an extra credit assignment at the beginning fo the semester. Dr. Bach is a great professor and genuinely cares about how his students do in his course and is very engaging during his lectures. He also makes funny jokes too. Be sure to read textbook too.
Took him for both 105 and 106. Awesome prof!! Very passionate. Attendance not mandatory but test material is straight from lectures, so go to class!!
Overall, Bach is a great prof. He's way better than my 105 prof. He gives one extra credit opportunity. BUT read the assigned readings. And go to lecture, the exams are open note.
Professor Bach was amazing! His lectures are easy to understand. Just make sure you take notes! His tests are solely on lectures. There are 3 quizzes over books you should read because those are weighted more than tests. His tests and quizzes are open-note. He also offers extra credit!
Dr. Bach: three exams and three quizzes. There was an extra credit assignment in the beginning. It's a little stressful listening to his lectures for the first couple of times but once you figure out the format it is totally fine. He tries to be funny, isn't funny, and that just makes it funnier. Take notes on your computer so you can CTRL-F.
Bach is a very good prof. I don't enjoy history a ton, but he made the class interesting and I enjoyed going. The tests are open note, but the time limit on the tests make it hard to actually use your notes, so make sure you don't rely solely on your notes to do good. There is quite a bit of reading and papers, but nothing is super hard.
Professor Bach is FUNNY!!!!!! Absolutely HILARIOUS!!!! He is very passionate about what he is talking about and it makes taking notes so much easier. All you have to do is show up to class and listen to him and you are good to go! Attendance isnt required but I wouldnt recommend missing his lectures, they each contain valuable info, & HES FUNNY!
Dr. Bach is the kind of prof that if you show up to lecture you will get an A on the exams. With only 9 grades in the semester if you skip class, you simply won't pass because he does not post his lectures. You have to read 3 books, one was pretty boring but the other 2 are good. Overall solid prof and fair course.
Lectures are entertaining and info-packed--if you don't attend lectures and take good notes, you'll have a tough time on tests since powerpoints/recordings aren't posted. Even with good notes and active reading, tests require quite a bit of studying, but this really forces you to learn and retain the material. Tests and quizzes are not open-note.
BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT THIS UNIVERSITY HANDS DOWN!!!!! 3 tests, 3 quizzes and 2 essays + and extra credit opportunity! Everything is very straightforward! Lectures are very interesting and Bachs passion for history is very evident from day one. Not to mention his humor is top tier! Funniest professor ive ever had. TAKE HIM! You wont regret it!
Not gonna lie, history is boring. Prof. Bach has an obvious passion for teaching history. He doesnt give PowerPoints so you type as he talks about the topic. Theres 3 exams and 3 quizzes. The exams are over small details so study!! No final, which is amazing.
This class is made up of 3 exams, 3 quizzes, 1 extra credit opportunity, and no final. The 3 quizzes are on 3 books that we have to read. I read all 3 and the quizzes were super easy. The 3 exams are pretty easy if you take notes. He has a powerpoint for each lecture with the main points but you have to take notes over what he says for each point.
I loved Dr. Bach! He's a super nice guy, straight to the point. You'll know what you need to do to succeed and he'll be straight forward about what's on the test and what to study. There is a lot of reading but if you do all your work and study the test and quizzes will be easy.
Grade is based entirely on tests and quizzes but the questions he asks are pretty easy. Take good notes in lecture and you will be fine. Great prof
I took Dr. Bach for both HIST105 & HIST106. I've never been the best at history, but Dr. Bach's course is straight-forward & engaging. The course does not take much of your time, as your grade is made up of a few tests/papers/quizzes. Go to class & read the required books & you'll pass. Definitely recommend taking your HIST credits with Dr. Bach!
I LOVED Professor Bach! He is SUPER funny and clearly loves what hes teaching. You will take 3 quizzes, 3 exams, and write 2 EASY papers. Theoretically, you probably should go to class because his exams are based solely off of his lectures but, I skipped often and passed everything just by studying quizlets. Overall, great professor & easy class.
He is a solid choice for 105/106. My only negative feedback is that he assigns 3 books to read with quizzes and papers over each and this took a lot of time away from my more important classes during the weekdays. Overall the A is relatively easy to get, you just will have to put in a little more work for it.
Dr. Bach is a really great professor. While lectures are required to pass the tests, the tests are verbatim from the lectures which makes them quite easy as long as you take notes. There are 3 book quizzes and 2 papers but reading the SparkNotes is sufficient. Just do the extra credit.
NO LONGER OPEN NOTE NOW THAT TAMU IS BACK TO IN-PERSON CLASSES. Tests are pretty much straight from lecture, fairly easy but there are some easier options for HIST 105. Depending on what section you get, you may or may not have to write essays (if you don't, quizzes are worth more). Quizzes over 3 books are very detailed. Everything is MC/matching
Entire class is made up of 3 exams and 3 quizzes. There are usually 2 essays in the syllabus as well but he took them out because he had no TA which would've helped everyone's grades. Heavy on lecture and will NOT upload powerpoints for an unknown reason. Also big typing class so if you can't type the speed he lectures at.. good luck.
There are 4 exams, 3 quizzes, and 2 analytical essays. His class is very fast-paced and a lot of reading. I did the bare minimum for that class and got a C. But I was on the edge of a D, so I 100% recommend going to lecture and recording it as well to make sure you don't miss anything. If you do well on the quizzes and essays you should be fine.
Dr. Bach is truly interested in what he teaches and it makes his lectures a lot more fun and easy to follow. Go to class every day, write down everything he says in your notes, make flashcards, study them, and you'll do great in the class. I sometimes skimmed the textbook and I'd say it was much less important than his lecture content.
Bach is nice and you do have to read a lot, but his tests and quizzes are pretty easy, but I have no clue what everyone is saying. Honestly he's the most boring professor I've ever had, I fell asleep every class without fail. He just stands there and reads his notes. I love history, but his teaching style ain't it. Easy A though. Never taking again
If you are a visual learner, I do not recommend this class. It is very lecture heavy and the PowerPoint slides during class were virtually useless. Sometimes the books we would read for the analytical papers would have political themes. Unfortunately, the TA was the grader and she seemed to grade us according to her own personal political biases.
I personally love history and professor Bach just expanded that. His classes are lecture only, but all assignments(analytical papers) are easily graded if you just cover a good portion of what the story is telling you. He offers a whole point extra credit bonus which was exactly what I needed to get an A last semester. He is great.
Course grade based on 2 exams + final and 2 essays over books. Assigned books are short. Best lecturer ive had. Does not upload notes online. Exams are easy if you pay attention in class. Essays are graded easily and only need to be 2 pages long double spaced. The syllabus seems scary, but this is an easy history class if you do your work.
He clearly loves and understands the material he teaches! Speed typing for lectures so be ready! But I struggle in history and went to office hours for help, and all he did was say "you should have known this information". I wouldn't recommend if you struggle in this subject. Class is mandatory, he won't post material. 3 essays over 3 books too.
Bach loves his job and talking about history. You HAVE to read the books. You are graded on a few things so you have to do the work in order to succeed. The lectures are a little heavy. The tests cover both lectures and textbook. He offered extra credit at the end of the semester. Reminds me of Toby Flenderson in the best way possible. Take him!!
Good prof. Exams are almost entirely lecture material. Go to lecture and take notes. Lots of information in lecture so I recommend taking notes on your laptop. Lecture recordings and lecture notes aren't posted online. There are 2 papers to write and 3 books to read with quizzes on each. Read over lecture notes before the exam and you'll do fine.
The tests are stripped right from the lectures. However, his lectures are terribly boring. I stopped paying attention halfway through the semester. The textbook is pointless. You have to write 2 essays on 2/3 books. That last book is a killer though, so use the first two. Honestly, it's not a super difficult class, but he's just so boring.
I had Dr. Bach for both HIST 105 and 106. Extremely lecture heavy, MUST go to class. Very kind and obviously passionate about history. He does his best to make it interesting. Quizzes are easy if you know the basic plot lines.
As long as you go to class and take notes, you should be fine. Plenty of quizlets for the exams. I enjoyed the lectures and didn't find the exams difficult at all, but I did take thorough notes and showed up to every class. My favorite prof of the semester.
Dr. Bach is very lecture heavy. He speaks quicky and does not offer access to anything online. If you miss a class, you will be lost. The exams are based on his verbal lectures and not his slides he presents in class.
Great prof, just go to class, take notes, and read the books, and you will be fine.
He's a nice guy, lectures heavy but will answer questions. He goes on little tangents sometimes but it's not annoying because he's just so wholesome. You get what you put into this class. As long as you show up, take good notes, and read the books you'll be fine. Tests are straight from notes & quizzes are straight from books. Didn't use textbook.
Dr. Bach was very passionate about American history, and made it very clear. He made dorky jokes, but always related back to the topic. We read 3 books, but they all helped understand the stories behind all the history a lot more. Overall, Dr. Bach is an amazing professor, and doesn't want anyone to fail and is very clear about what you need to do.
Dr. Bach is a good professor overall. You do have to go to class, take good notes, read the material, and study. If you do all this you will do well in the class. His lectures are boring, but most of the information you need is in them.
Only gives lectures, but doesn't post material anywhere online.
Few tests and very lecture heavy
Monotonous and does not specify what is on test. Lectures for the full length of class for 5 straight weeks and then makes you guess which parts are important for the exams. Don't bother going to review sessions because they don't help. Do not take this class unless you want to be bored out of your mind and be unsure of what is going on.
This prof was very lecture heavy DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF, his exams are very hard, before signing up for this class make sure you read the syllabus. There are three exams and three quizzes over books. Overall not a good class.
Summer Session. You can def sparknotes the books, but 100% look on quizlet for exam study guides. Recommends a textbook but it didn't really help me any. LONG lectures. Makes funny dad jokes sometimes, but a very sweet guy! 2 Exams, 3 Quizzes, 1 Final. :)
The class is incredibly easy. Most of the grades come from the three books we have to read across the year and their corresponding quizzes/papers. The exams make up the remainder of the grades and are very easy to prepare for. He is very lecture heavy and exams are derived from lecture, but most of the content is easily found online.
Professor Bach is very passionate about teaching history. The quizzes are based on the books you have to read, so read the books!!! And study for the exams because they are worth a big percentage of your grades! The TA was very helpful and the reviews he gives help out a lot so don't miss class!
Do not think this class will be an easy A. There are three books and quizzes that are extremely specific. This class is very straightforward, and I took APUSH in high school, so it was like a refresher. However, the exams were very specific. I didn't think the exams were common sense; they were hard. Make sure to go to class!
It's an easy class, just go to lecture and do you're readings and you'll be fine. The hardest part is that HE IS BORING. I took an 1 hr15 min class and it was tedious at times to just sit there and listen to him talk. He adds details that aren't needed during lectures so it feels like he's rambling. Tests are easy if you go to lecture
There are only 8 grades in his class: 3 quizzes, 2 papers, and 3 exams. The quizzes and papers are over 3 different books (I recommend finding a free audiobook, using 1.5x-2x speed), and the exams are over the lectures. Lectures can be boring but you need to go to them, and he'll occasionally veer off, saying things related but off-topic.
Dr. Bach is a very good lecturer. He adds a lot of interesting commentary to the lectures too. You have to either type fast or if you can't (like me) you have to write fast. There are very few things that the grade is based on so you have to do well in everything. However, there is no homework and this class takes very little time outside of class.
At first, Dr. Bach had a great attitude, but it seemed to shift over time. Lectures were fine, but the slides were never posted afterwards. The exams sometimes had questions that could be debated when it came to the right answer. I wouldn't take another history class with Dr. Bach. The class isn't hard and he's not bad, just not my cup of tea.
Professor Bach is awesome! Although he says there are required books, I managed an A+ without reading! Just be sure to attend class and take good notes over his lectures cause tests are essay format and you basically have to write what you learned from his lectures.
3 exams, 3 quizzes, and two papers, with capacity for 1 point of extra credit. Lecture slides are not available anywhere, so ensure you have good note-taking strategies. Exams are pulled from the lectures and textbook, while quizzes are solely from the books. Wouldn't recommend for those who don't enjoy history.
People make a big deal out of Dr. Bach's exams but I personally don't see it at all. It's very straightforward what is expected of you. If you go to class and take notes you will have no problem doing well in this course. His lecture's are extremely boring but you need to go cause he doesn't post anything online. Cool dude would take him again.
Three exams, where none are cumulative. Three quizes over books read, and two essays over those books. Although Bach's lectures are boring and long, as long as you take notes (he talks so slow that it's easy to follow along), you'll do fine on the tests. Ended with an A and barely had to do any sort of homework.
Attendance is not mandatory but you should probably go to class because the exams are pretty much all from lecture. If you're good at time management you should be fine; there are three books (each with quizzes), two essays, and three exams. Studying for the exams can be daunting, but I found studying and going to class with friends was helpful.
Easy A if you pay attention and take detailed notes. You will have to read three books (or very good summaries) and write papers on two of them and there are three exams (not cumulative). Lectures are not that interesting but he occasionally shows interesting videos.
Dr. Bach is my favorite professor that I've ever had! He is passionate about history & his lectures are interesting & informative. He is understanding & helpful when you have questions. Paying attention and taking notes during the lectures is essential to doing well, that is what you will use for tests and projects. I highly recommend taking him!
Dr. Bach was an ok professor, nothing exceptional but it's not at a point were it'll effect your grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but only the information from lecture is on exams, so if you don't go you'll get in a bad spot. The class itself is simple, lectures can feel like an information overload with all the notes but making friends helps.
Professor Bach is an excellent professor! Even though the class is graded by few things, he makes the requirements for each project clear. He isn't a super tough grader, so an A is possible. The books aren't necessary as the exams are over his lectures! Take good notes though as that is what the exams will be based upon!
The thing I look for in a history professor is a guy who can tell a story. And boy does Professor Bach deliver. Pay attention in lecture and take thorough notes. He doesn't really use the textbook on his exams. He had three required readings, the quizzes for which are not hard. The exams aren't difficult either.
The are very few grades in the class, so if you have an off day it can be difficult to recover. But, quizzes and exams were relatively easy. He is sure to emphasis the points that you need to remember in lecture. Reading the 3 assigned books can be a pain when trying to juggle other classes though.
Attendance isn't mandatory; taking notes during his lectures is going to be your main study material for the exams. He is a funny and lighthearted guy who will make lectures interesting, There's 3 quizzes and 3 essays for 3 books (that you buy/access yourself) that aren't difficult (I didn't read one of them and got a 100 for an essay)
Professor Bach has hands down been one of my favorite professors at A&M. He did not have mandatory attendance, but you will fall behind if you do not attend class. The exams are mainly based on lecture and some direct things he says will be on the exam. The textbook can be helpful though. I would 100% recommend, because he is passionate and caring.
This class is very lecture heavy, so make sure you are taking notes! Dr. Bach gives you two unexcused absences which was nice to have somewhat of a choice if you wanted to go to class or not. This two written exams are not bad just make sure you are putting down as much information as possible and the book quiz is not bad either.
I say attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly suggest going. While GroupMe has lecture notes most of the time, Bach says specific things that will be on exams. For the class, it was graded by 2/3 papers, which are leniently graded, and 3 exams, not cumulative.
Prof. Bach was a caring professor and you could tell he wanted his students to be engaged in the lecture. The 3 books we read were followed by very simple quizzes. If you pay attention and take notes during lecture you won't have any problems.
I loved Dr.Bach! I took his summer course for a credit and I loved it. He's a funny guy and makes his lectures pretty engaging, we did lots of lecture notes but I am sure that was because this was a 5-week course. We had 3 quizzes over books and then 3 tests that were all stuff from lectures. Attendance is not required but def go for notes.
Dr. Bach was a good lecturer, but his class was hard because it was given in a 5-week semester. Not recommending taking over the summer. Didn't post anything on Canvas, and lecture heavy- his exams are based on what he says in class, not his slides. Also, very expensive class, $130 for a textbook and 3 books- which had quizzes. Beware of Exam 2.
Bach is a good teacher he just talks very fast about history. It is hard to keep up with when taking notes. The tests are not too challening if you take good notes, there is a review that is very helpful the class before the tests. 2 papers, not too challenging. Have to read three books during the semester, most work is done first half of semester.
I took Mr. Bach for Hist 471 and he was great. Attendance is mandatory but his lectures are engaging and I never felt myself checking the clock. There are 3 books but you only have a quiz over one and its really not bad. 2 test, one quiz, one group project. Overall, I would take him again! Just show up and take notes and you will do great!
He seems like a good guy but his lectures are extremely long and boring. He talks the entire time & has a very monotoned voice. You take notes non stop for 90 minutes. You only have 3 exams which are entirely multiple choice and true/false. You read 3 books and have a quiz over each one & 2 essays over 2 of the books. 1 easy extra credit opp.
Dr. Bach was a great teacher. Be aware that missing class means that you are missing notes because he does not post any of his lectures online. I never had any homework in this class other than the 2 papers. The papers are very easy and are a maximum of 2 pages double spaced. Tests are very easy. Make sure to read the 3 books, SparkNotes works too.
Attendance isn't mandatory but I really recommend going because tests are only based on what he says in his lectures. This class is so easy if you put in minimal effort to go to his lectures, take notes, and do a couple hours of studying before exams. He is passionate about the subjects and cares about his students. I absolutely loved Dr. Bach!
Lectures are very helpful, would recommend going. Do well on those essays, they will help a lot in the grading process. Study for those exams, especially the first two. You don't have to read the books, the quizzes were based on information you can get from summaries.
Dr. Bach is the worst professor ever. There are three tests, and he expects you to write down everything he rambles on about for a non-stop 75 minutes. Unless you've got a history PhD, you're probably getting a B. His TA grades everything but gives useless feedback. No matter how much I studied, I was never prepared for exams. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Dr. Bach is an amazing lecturer and is truly passionate about history. My only complaint is that he does not post slides so the only way to get the information is to attend lectures. Take good notes! There are 3 book quizzes which are not too difficult if you read and 2 essays which are graded leniently. You only need an 88.5 to get an A!
I like the prof but I took an immense amount of notes and I never felt prepared for his exams. He adds things on the exams that he did not go over. The TA for this semester seemed like she was on a power trip & was not helpful. 3 exams + 2 essays + 3 quizzes over interesting books-make sure to read because there are a lot of details on quizzes.
Dr. Bach was a caring prof but his class is completely based off the lecture. He doesn't post lecture slides so taking notes was crucial. The two essays are worth a lot so make sure to do well on those. The quizzes were easy even if you didn't read the books.
Professor Bach's class was easy, and pre-made study guides for all the exams can be found online on quizlet. On the exam week, be sure to check for them, as you could easily skip a lot of class and still pass the exam with an A if you study enough quizlets. The quizzes are also easy, but reading the books are time consuming, so make time for that.
Damon Bach is an amazing proffessor. While his lectures may get boring sometimes, his tests are very lecture heavy based. Meaning most of what is on the test he WILL cover in his lectures so even though attendance isn't mandatory if you do not go to class you will not do well. His class is fairly easy with only a few books to read.
I think I should've done better in his class. The essays were not too bad. The fact we had to read 3 whole books was a little demanding. I think that he also had very specific information on the tests but if you showed up and paid attention in class its wasn't too bad.
Took him over the summer, class wasn't so bad. He makes things really clear on the first day of school of what to expect from his class and how to prepare for it. He has a clear grading criteria and it's only based on 3 quizzes (off of assigned books) and 3 tests (from the lecture and textbook). There is a textbook that 's required too.
Dr. Bach made it easy to get an A in his class. He grades off of a lot, but there's not an overwhelming amount of homework. Only downside is that his lectures are hard to get information out of- no clear idea what you should be writing, kind of fast talker, but he holds review sessions that help. If you don't get an A its because you don't do work.
While I am not a big fan of history, I really enjoyed Dr. Bach's lectures. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches! We are graded on 3 exams, 3 quizzes and 2 papers. For exams just attend the test review and you will do fine. Dr. Bach gives a lecture over the history of rock and roll which was really enjoyable as well.
Dr. Bach is such a chiller. 3 exams total (including final), none of which are cumulative. 3 quizzes over readings/video material. 2 essays that were graded super leniently. He always has an interesting personal story to bring up in his lecture thats funny. Super nice guy with great TAs for the course as well.
He is very passionate about what he does! The class definitely requires paying attention to lectures as assignments are based solely on them. There are only five grades- proctored, closed book, and 4-page, midterm and final essay, a quiz on a book, a group presentation, and your teaching philosophy.
Dr. Bach was such a kind and funny professor. His class was easy to get an A in and I knew exactly what was expected of me. He makes the lectures interesting and he is passionate about what he does. The essays are graded leniently and the tests are not difficult at all. Overall, I strongly suggest taking Dr. Bach!
Never studied more than 30 min for any of the quizzes/exams including the final and got a 93. Two books that you're supposed to read...didn't read them. One book you'll write an essay over, mine was bad but still got an A. Pay attention in lectures and you'll be fine. No homework besides 2 essays (one over documentary). Final is non-comprehensive.
Took him for HIST 105 & 106 and both courses were not too bad. I was not a huge fan of his teaching style, mainly because he talks fast and was hard to hear, which makes it difficult to type in what he said. 2 essays based on what you read. For the 3 quizzes, save time by reading a summary broken down for each chapter of the book that is assigned.
Not a lot of assignments (3 tests, 2 essays and 3 quizzes). he is a good lecturer with a sense of humor but there is a lot of material covered. No exam is cumulative! he doesn't post lecture slides so you have to go to class for the information but as long as you do your work its not a hard class to do okay in
I looked forward to this class every day. His lectures are entertaining, and basically never got boring. He genuinely loves his material. There are three books you have to read and two papers to write, but they are graded very generously so they aren't anything to stress about. Attendance is not mandatory but he doesn't put anything online
Most reviews on here are exactly right. He's clearly passionate about what he talks about and has a great sense of humor. The lectures aren't boring and note taking isn't very difficult, but you do need to show up as he does not post lectures online. One of the best teachers/professors I've ever had!
A great professor if you are willing to put in effort for each test. The bare minimum of studying the night before can get you an A on any quiz/test. 1 paper for extra credit, 3 quizzes, 3 exams. Exams are straight from notes. If you miss anything in the lecture, look up his studocu notes and you can fill in any blanks. Each test is weighted heavy.
He is very monotoned and speaks at a fast pace. Difficult to keep up with. The material it self is not difficult it's just that it is a lecture based professor. Meaning that's all you have to go off of.
His classes are very lecture heavy so make sure to show up!! He's very passionate about history so he provides lots of facts and explanations for why and how things happen!
Dr Bach is a Solid Man
Prof. Bach's lectures can be dry, but he covers crucial material. The 3 tests, 2 essays, and 3 quizzes are tough if you don't attend. unstuck study and the free textbook helped me ace this class.
Lecture heavy professor. Pay attention to lectures and take notes. Other than that, there are assignments based on books which you have plenty of time to read.
Dr. Damon R. Bach is passionate about the subject. His lectures can be long but the class is often released early. He likes to incorporate light-hearted jokes occasionally that keep the audience engaged. The papers are graded generously, quizzes are not difficult and over generic aspects of the readings, and the tests are not cumulative.
I love Dr. Damon Randolph Bach. His lectures are engaging compared to other profs, and he loves to crack jokes from time to time. This class is light, only graded by 3 tests, 3 quizzes, and 2 papers, all graded very generously. Nothing is cumulative. Take this class for an easy A and to bask in Dr. Bach's aura during lecture.
i bombed the 1st quiz, but the rest of the term was super smooth and easy. you read 3 books with quizzes, write 2 papers, and 3 lecture tests. if you want notes, show up to class. dr. bach is funny and will tell you everything you wanted to know and even things you didn't want to know (like the height and weight of the average civil war soldier)
There aren't very many grades in this class, just tests, papers, and 3 quizzes. He is very straightforward and is not interested in making it any harder than it needs to be. I liked him and I am taking him again for 106.
Professor Bach is chill. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go to class because everything is covered in lecture, and he doesn't post the slides. It does get boring sometimes but he tries to make it more interesting. You have two papers, three quizzes, and three exams. It's easy work and the tests aren't hard.
Damon Bach while he may have a dull lecture style, you will learn in his class.
Bach is 'alright.' He shouldn't be your last or your first choice for a history elective. It's an easy enough class if you actually go to class; tests are straight from his lectures. No homework besides skimming through assigned readings which take 30-45 minutes every couple of weeks. TAs are useless; test reviews don't help. Just go to class.
This class is completely lecture based. He doesn't post any lecture slides so while attendance is not mandatory, it is suggested. The quizzes (3) are easy if you read the book and the papers (2) are graded extremely easy so no need to stress out about those. The tests are difficult. If you can avoid taking him, do it. avoid at all costs.
It's an alright class. Worst part was the tests cause you would have to review days worth of lecture notes. Besides tests, this class was okay and pretty easy. VERY lecture-heavy. You are only allowed 2 absences until points get deducted from your overall grade. Recording his lectures on goodnotes is what really helped me prepare for tests.
dr. bach is a g! he is a heavy lecturer and does not post his slides, so you have to go to class! there are a couple books you need to read but the quizzes over them were easy. the papers are graded easy if you follow the rubric. the ta does a review before the exam (study it!) pretty easy class if you show up and study!
Dr. Bach was one of my favorite professors from last semester! I am not a history person, but his class was great! He gives great lectures, so take notes on what he says rather than just simple bullet points from the powerpoints and you will do great. READ THE BOOKS HE ASSIGNS! Just read them!!! And take notes while doing so. Super great guy.
Professor Bach is very lecture heavy, so we were typing away the whole class. There are 3 things you need to read outside of class for 3 quizzes and 2 of those books needed a 2 page paper written on them. Exams were fairly easy as long as you studied the review guide given to you (you make it in class). GO TO CLASS because he doesn't post slides.
Dr Bach's class was boring at times but I am glad I took him. He is clearly passionate about what he is teaching. I took him for 105 and then am in his 106 class right now. The class consists of 3 exams, none of which are cumulative, 2 required essays (3 options) on books assigned to read outside of class. The quizzes are not hard if you read!
This was the hardest class I have taken so far in college. He lectures the WHOLE TIME in the most monotone voice. History has always been my worst subject so this made me hate it sm more. Tests are fully based on lecture but you have to take notes b/c his slides have like 2 bullet points then he has his own notes that he reads at 3x speed.
Great speaker. Attendance not mandatory but he does not post any material online. If you want the best material you need to go to class. If you have to skip, you can find old material online, but no guarantee that it's confirmed for the current sem. Tests do not require much thinking, you either know it or you don't. Memorization heavy. 2 essays.
Honestly, this man is the goat. Saw him walking to his office with Whoop Coop in hand, what more needs to be said? Great sense of humour and clearly passionate about the subject. Show up to class and you'll be fine. Ignore the bad reviews, those are the 0.67 GPA students.
DAMON RANDOLPH BACH IS THE GOAT. Tests are straightforward if you take good lecture notes and essays are graded very generously. Quizzes can be rough though if you don't read. Damon's lectures are engaging with video clips frequently shown. He is a funny and entertaining lecturer who clearly has a passion for what he teaches. Solid man. Take him.🗿
I had never been a history person, but I took a history class with him last semester and liked it so much that i took the next one this semester. He puts a lot of work into his lectures and is clearly passionate about what he is teaching. I always appreciate the videos he chooses to share with class. He is also really funny when he wants to be!!
Dr. Bach was an amazing professor! He lectures very well and keeps it interesting with his funny jokes. He is very knowledgeable and presents all information very clearly. Things he emphasizes in class will be on the tests, which are not hard as long as you study. He's super interesting to talk to, especially about music if you get the chance.
Really great Professor. He makes the lectures fun and interesting. There is not much to do throughout the semester other than a couple of papers, a few quizzes, and tests. Tests are based on lectures. The TA harshly graded my papers, taking 25% off of one of them for being a few sentences away from a full 2 pages, but the course was great!
Graded off 2 exams and a non-cumulative final, 2 essays, and 3 quizzes. 1% extra credit opportunity. Not difficult, but must attend lectures to do well, does not post slides. Quizzes can be difficult if you don't read/watch. Papers are graded easy. Reviews by TAs cover most of exam material, but tend to leave out some info, take good notes.
I didn't go to class that much after the first exam, and I still did great on the exams by looking up Quizlets to study. Definitely recommend going to the TA's review day before the exam!!! Overall nice teacher and always ended on time. He's just a tad bit socially awkward when you go up and talk to him, but his lecturing skills were awesome.
He was an ok professor but there is barely any grades so if you don't do well you're kind of just screwed. It is an average level class, so not too hard but he does not really have any grace. I had an 87 in the class and I needed an A to get into my major and he wouldn't help me at all.
Dr. Bach's class is very easy if you pay attention to lectures (he doesn't record or post them) which often are quite entertaining when he drops his jokes. He only has 3 exams and 3 quizzes so there aren't a lot of grades but he does have an extra credit opportunity to add 1 point to your final grade which can be helpful.
Makes history not boring. One of the most amazing profs you'll have during your time here 105 and 106 are a breeze with him.
I took a summer class with him and it was super fun and informative. The class is very lecture heavy but once you get used to
really awesome, and I will take his class again next semester. He does lecture the entirety of the class, but I find them entertaining because he includes interesting facts in his lectures. He had us do 3 tests, 3 quizzes (each on a diff novel) and 1 paper assignment, so you have to do good on those since theres no hw. SI's were super helpful!
Professor Bach does not post slides or anything. I did not enjoy his class, his lectures are not interesting. We are graded by only 3 quizzes 3 tests. You do not get your work back. He will not go out of his way to help you. You are offered 1 extra credit point, nothing more, no exceptions. I recommend not taking him if you can avoid it.
Professor Bach is a good prof if you have the will to sit through his lectures. Lectures are VERY boring and you only have a couple grades. No HW, 2 essays, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams. The exams are very easy if you study and take notes in class. Essays are graded OK, not too harsh. Some of the quizzes seemed a bit difficult but others weren't too bad.
His class is very lecture heavy and you will need to go to class as he does not post anything online. You will be graded over 3 exams (non-cumulative), 3 quizzes over the books he assigns, and 2 essays.
No grades at all, so if you do not lock in in the first month of school, basically you are screwed. If you do not go to class, you will not do well on tests because his lectures are not posted on Canvas. Also, he just reads off of his little script during class. Wish he would have more than 7 grades in the gradebook including the final. SO BAD.
I thought he was a great professor. Lecture based course and doesn't post any lectures online. 3 exams, 3 book quizzes and 2 analytical essays over the books. Show up to class, take notes, and find quizlets. Tests are pretty much like the lecture notes just in question form.
Basically you are graded by 3 quizzes and 3 exams... that's it. They are all multiple choice but if you are someone like me who struggles with history it could be a rough semester because there is literally no other way to bring your grade up.
I liked this professor he was silly and pretty easy to follow! he grades based on 3 exams, 3 quizzes, and 2 essays all the readings needed for the quizzes and essays are provided for free. He does not post his slides. If you actually put in the effort you will definitely get an A, I struggle with history but I actually enjoyed this course!
I liked him as a person and would be interesting to listen to outside a lecture environment. His lectures just felt very long and monotone. He also spoke extremely fast so it was difficult trying to catch what he was saying sometimes. I enjoyed the lecture material and he did make it entertaining at times. The books and movie were pretty easy.
Amazing professor, just test heavy though.
Great guy. If you don't attend class, then it's not hard to catch back up but make sure to take notes or ask someone for their notes. SI sessions are helpful too!
