This is a good, basic environmental geology class. Nice overview of the subject and the teacher is easy but knows his stuff. Great class.

Damon was a great professor, and I don't even like geology in the least bit. He is also VERY easy on the eyes.

Damon is awesome. I am an accounting major and took this to take care of my second science class requirement. I actually learned way more than I ever thought I would. He is very knowledgeable in the subject and his lectures are interesting. He is awesome, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Damon is a great professor. He is loves what he does and is very knowledgeable. He will work with you but you must attend class which gets you easy points. His tests are somewhat hard but he gives a study guide for each one (even the final). There are a few out of class assignments but nothing too hard. I absolutely loved him!

There was a ton of material and the study guides seemed really long, but he made the class really interesting and knows what he is talking about, I recommend doing the study guides . and go to class because there is always a 5 point assignment at the end and they add up.

Damon's a solid professor, he tends to throw a few curveballs come test time, however if you attend class and get your daily 5 pts, you should be good. He's pretty funny, even if his jokes bomb, he takes the Conan O'Brien approach and calls himself out.

Don't even buy the book--attend lectures and study the material he makes available online. Don't skip on lectures; you'll be surprised at how interesting he can make volcanoes and aquifers out to be.

He's probably the best teacher I've ever had. Honestly, his tests for this class were a little harder than expected, but he's super helpful and absolutely the most fun I've ever had in geology. You can tell the guy knows what he's talking about, although he's pretty modest. I would definitely recommend him, and would take anything he teaches!

I was dreading taking this class, but now I love it. His lectures are always really interesting and easily understandable. He gives you the materials needed for the test, so just show up and pay attention. By the end of the semester, most of the guys think he is awesome and most of the girls want to marry him.

Best professor I've had so far. He's a younger guy so he seems to understand the students better. His tests are fairly easy if you study the study guides and the essays are a breeze because he goes over them with you. If you are an education major and have to take this class, TAKE DAMON

Very good professor. Class is not mandatory, but you need to go because he has random assignments and you won't do very well on the exams if you skip. He is very helpful and loves answering questions. Don't buy the book because he doesn't use it and you have all the information in the power points he gives you. It was a tough B, but it's college.

Damon is awesome. He's a really fun, interesting, and cool guy. He makes the class interesting (he shows episodes of Dirty Jobs, for crying out loud) and the tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention and go over the study guides. If you can, take Damon.

Great teacher. hes fairly young and charasmatic if not kinda nerdy in a funny way. i honestly dont believe he hasnt been able to answer one of my many questions. take Damon, he's a great teacher who really has a harness on this subject and on the students. becarful though, if you go to class youll pass but if you skip his tests are kinda hard

He also knows a ton of information on the subject matter off the top of his head, so he is great at answering questions. Tests can be difficult but there is an in class assignment almost every day and these add up to help you. One of my favorite teachers.

Damon made the class enjoyable because of his knowledge of the material and ability to keep the class involved and excited. He is always willing to help and very open for interruptions during class if you don't understand something. You don't need the book but you need to go to class because the tests are difficult. I had almost no interest in Geology at all but he makes it really interesting by talking about natural disaster and how geology could actually affect us. Really good personality and very organized. He kept to the schedule and I was never in doubt about what he wanted from our homework and tests.

Damon is young and nice. he is just all over the place at times. he goes off on random (sometimes funny) stories and doesnt stick to the lecture. its a long class because there was no lab but he does activities that count for some points so go to class. his tests aren't hard but not easy either. if he says something twice, itll be on the test!

Absolutely amazing teacher! I highly recommend him to anyone needing a science credit. He makes the class interesting and gives in class assignments worth a lot of points. His tests aren't too bad and he gives you a study guide and if you ask for help, he will help you finish the entire study guide.And all his PowerPoints are online.

Bassett is freakin hilarious. He makes geology interesting and we watch old of "dirty jobs" episodes. His tests are pretty hard, show up to class and take good notes. Also go to class because he gives random assignments that will help your grade but if you miss them, you cannot make them up.

Great teacher! He has a good sense of humor. He makes the class interesting, but it's still geology so it's not going to have you on the edge of your seat (unless that's your thing). If you are willing to learn and put some time in I would recommend this class. However, don't go in thinking it will be an easy A.

Professor Bassett is a great teacher! I hate science, and I loved his class! He makes it interesting and makes a lot of jokes to it's not so boring. He realizes that you have other homework to do and doesn't assign a lot. If you want to do well, you should read the chapter, but he goes over everything in class.

He. Is. Amazing. I was sick for a WEEK, e-mailed him because I'd missed an exam and he set up a date I could come in to take it outside of his office, & offered me help. He makes super funny comments during class, and though some of the paper assignments he gives in class are iffy, he makes Geology AWESOME!

While this instructor is entertaining, he does not teach to the test very well. You will be tested on indepth material that's barely touched on in class. Don't buy the book. If you show up to class and pay attention, you should have no problem passing the class.

I had another professor but he replaced him for this semester and I was not disappointed! Basalt is amazing! his exams aren't too easy but by no means impossible either,simply study powerpoints + notes on info given during class that's not on PP. He doesn't take attendance but he makes showing up a reward in of itself.

First off, 115 is more paleontology than geology. You will study living things from Earth's formation to almost the present. Damon is really good at keeping you entertained and engaged. There is A LOT of material that is covered so you will need to read, you will need to go to class and you will need to study.

He is hilarious, and makes the class entertaining. He covers a ton of material in his 115 class so its not as easy as some would think, The tests are hard but not impossible, take good notes and you'll be fine.

This is a tough class but Damon is there to help if you need it. Don't wait until the last minute to do the homework or write ups for lab. If you need help understanding a concept he is more than willing to help.

Damon was a great prof. Long lectures but entertaining for GEO. He switches attendance with worst test. I went everyday, 100% on my lowest test instead of 70. Will help you on the study guides but tests are tricky with so much information to learn on them. If you aren't into rocks expect a B or barely an A. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. SLIDES ON BB.

A very passionate, knowledgable teacher! Going to class and taking notes is essential. Power points are on Blackboard but a lot of the tested information is communicated verbally. Main grades are tests. There were only one or two assignments the entire semester. The tests are pretty challenging, studying is a must. The textbook was very helpful!

The tests are tough, but just print out the study guides before he goes over it in lectures and fill it out as you go, and it will help a lot! He also replaces your worst regular test grade with your attendance grade. I used the textbook to supplement studying but it wasn't super necessary.

He's very sarcastic and constantly makes jokes. The grad consists of four tests and a final, you have to study for all of it. You can replace your lowest test grade with participation. He is very open to help and provides study guides. Fill those out (with the help of the internet) and you'll do fine. I didn't read the textbook once.

Hilarious and nice guy! Definitely show up everyday because he replaces your worst test grade with your attendance (you're going to need that) His tests are difficult, but if you study from the study guide you will do just fine. I tried reading the textbook but it just confused me honestly so I don't think it's necessary.

I loved taking a class with Damon. It was just for a Gen Ed requirement but I wish I could take more classes with him. He makes science enjoyable and fun even for people like me who hate science. He is also SO funny, but this tends to lead him off topic so you will probably end up WAY behind the syllabus.

Bassett's classes are all lecture, but he makes it so much fun and easy to listen too. He is hilarious and always keeps your attention. His tests are difficult, but with enough studying they're completely passable. He's passionate about his work and he is very understanding. Take his classes!

He is an excellent professor. He gives really tough exams, however you do get to use your attendance towards your worst grade at the end. I am awful at any science classes and do not find them interesting but I still loved going to his class because he has a great personality and understand most people are only there for the hours. This class definitely isn't easy, but Damon makes it easier. The content is difficult because it covers a lot of material and usually it's material you haven't seen before. You'll want to come to class every day not only because the lowest test grade gets dropped for attendance, but Damon makes the content relatable and is very funny.

Bassett is a great professor. His class is lecture heavy, but they are enjoyable because he is hilarious. He gives 4 exams and a final. Lowest exam grade is dropped and replaced with your attendance percentage, so go to class! The tests are a bit difficult but he does give a study guide for each one. Overall I definitely recommend

Damon is MY MAN. He is a great professor. He's really really funny. There are five tests that are fairly hard but you will be okay as long as you study. He gives specific study guides that are long but helpful. He replaces your worst test score with your attendance at the end, too. I totally recommend him, only bad thing is the tests can be hard.

Tests are super hard and the material is hard to understand but if you really try hard and study hard you can definitely get a good grade! There's a few extra credit opportunities but other than that its all tests which were hard. His lectures are engaging and funny.

Bassett is truly a great professor, really funny and really understanding. He does talk really fast, but his powerpoints are online if I remember correctly, so write what he says, his tests are a good mix of powerpoint/lecture/reading. Your attendance score replaces your lowest test grade at the end of the semester so GO and stay.

Took this class because I'd heard it was an easy way to knock out a science Gen Ed. Could not be happier with that decision. Though the course is not nearly as easy as you've likely heard it is, Damon is probably my favorite professor so far. Not only very accessible, but epitomizes making a "boring" subject fascinating. Take this course, period.

Damon Bassett is AMAZING! I'm a business major and took this class to get my required life science credit out of the way. I thought it would be boring, but it was actually one of my favorite classes here at MSU. His lectures are incredible, and he replaces your lowest test grade with your attendance.

A really great teacher who is knowledgeable about the subject matter and makes it interesting. The tests are hard but if you use Ben in the Bear Claw and study hard you'll do fine. Pay attention in lectures.

Really enjoyed his class. His humor was very dry, but still made us laugh. No homework, just exams. The exams were pretty tough but as long as you study, you will do just fine.

Get ready to study. Online class, take good notes on lectures, text help- but not necessary to pass this class. Just know the lectures inside and out, you will do ok. He repeats questions on exams from weekly quizzes, so make flashcards on those. Easy A if you stay on top of it. Periodic discussion boards and assignments are peppered in the class.

Pretty solid class! Dr. Basset makes it interesting and fun and the material is not too bad. The hardest part about the class is the memorization of animal names of what did what etc. I would recommend this class over Bio any day.

Damon is a fun professor, and coming from someone totally not interested in STEM, he makes geology very enjoyable. He is down to earth, jokey, and fun to listen to. His lectures are all posted on Bb which makes completing the study guides a breeze. All exam questions are taken from the same pool as the weekly quizzes. Fairly easy and fun overall.

I LOVED Damon's Life of the Past class. I genuinely looked forward to every lecture. He moves at a very easy pace and explains things in terms that are pretty easy to understand. He is very explicit about what will and will not be on exams. Also, no comprehensive final! I highly recommend this class

I took this class as a block course online. You need good discipline, because you will fall behind if you dont. His syllabus states he doesnt accept late work. I am not a stem major and found this class enjoyable. Homework is easy if you read the required text. Test can be difficult. Ended with an A.

Bassett was so much fun to listen to. Despite some of their boring content, I found his lectures entertaining, and I learned a lot from the lessons and the weekly assignments. He offers extra credit occasionally, which bumped my grade up to an A. The quizzes are open-note; tests are taken on Lockdown. The questions are relatively easy to remember.

Good online teacher! Weekly open book quizzes and a Mcgraw-hill quiz that you will get full points as long as you do it. Only downside is the tests have lockdown browser so beware of that.

Damon was amazing! We had weekly homework and he cut most of the "fluff" content. If you get assigned Damon for your GEP course, you're extremely lucky. Just make sure to do your weekly homework (he is very gracious with late work) and show up to classes. We had two or three group projects. All of them were easy and fun.

Great Teacher/Really interesting-Never had a boring lecture. You do have to study outside of class & write really good notes. Maybe study the study guide questions. For sure study the vocab along with the quizzes! I didnt study on the first exam & got 65. On my second exam I didnt study and I got 48. Ill begin to study now. Good Luck!

This is a man who loves what he teaches. I genuinely enjoy and look forward to attending his lectures, and I'm an art major. He goes the extra mile and records each lesson and offers extra credit and even creates study guides of things-to-know. However, it's important to note that you must also go the extra mile and attend lectures and STUDY!!!

Fun and respectable teacher who actually cares about what he is teaching. I enjoyed his class and it felt somewhat challenging as an honors student. If you need to know what to study: chapter quiz questions and posted study guides are the focus of the exam content.

Never thought I'd want to retake a class, but it's the case with GLG 115 Life of the Past. Mr. Bassett is an amazing public speaker and despite being in a huge class, he acts very personable. He sparks curiosity with hilarious stories and his slides are picture packed. The one issue is the hard tests, which aren't even hard if you put the work in.

This class was challenging, but I really enjoyed it. I suggest filling out the chapter study guides he provides for your notes rather than writing down every single thing he says in a video, as that's where he gets most of his quiz/test questions from. I started doing this, and I was able to reduce the time I had to spend on the lectures each week.

He is so funny and is really engaging but I fear that the class was a little challenging. It's hard to study for the exams if he doesn't post a study guide, there is just so much that you have to learn and it's hard to retain that for the test without cramming. Other than that, it's definitely a class I'm glad that I took and would recommend.

He is a very funny guy and clearly enjoys the subject he teaches. His lectures can be a little unfocused but all the necessary information is there if you look for it. He posts all his notes so he makes it easy to catch up on what you miss. His quizzes are fairly easy and the exams are even easier as long as you did well on the quizzes.

Wonderful professor, will take another course from him. Lectures for invertebrate paleontology are quite long, about 2.5 hours twice a week, but they are interesting and fun. Lab is drawing and labeling specimens. Some assignments, 3 tests, 1 presentation. Helps with advising students if asked. Loves when students bring in cool rocks and fossils.

*This review is for Geology Field Camp GLG 413*!!! The camp had Mr. Bassett for a week at field camp, and the was great, caring, and inspirational. I would highly recommend Mr. Bassett for all courses, as he is intelligent, a fair grader, and listens to what you have to say.

He is a very kind and friendly person who wants to help all of his students succeed. Anytime I needed help or clarification, he was more than happy to help me. All of his online materials were comprehensive and helpful, and he showed a lot of grace and respect to his students!

VERY funny and engaging, lectures were always interesting. But they can be very confusing with lots of really specific terminology that you need to memorize for exams. Exams can be challenging so study beforehand. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT and the outside homework- it can be the difference between a letter grade since exams do not get curved!
