Barlow makes writing essays both enjoyable and easy. He is always there to help, and there is never any surprises. I said attendance is mandatory, but that's only because if you show up every day, you automatically pass the final- don't even have to show up. Definitely take this professor if you have the chance.

Best teacher I've had in college so far. Super nice guy. Very helpful. Taught me more about writing than any of my high school teachers did. Does assign a lot of essays (about one every three weeks maybe), but guides you through them all and makes the assignments so much easier to interpret. Highly recommend this class.

He is very understanding and gives back great feedback on assignments that needed help. I wish he had more online classes!! Homework wise, the workload wasn't nearly as "heavy" as I thought. Professor Barlow was super easy to ask questions and get ahold of. Genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Take his class! There were a total of 6 essays but 2 or 3 were combining the previous 2.

I was told by friends this pre-req was more difficult than 1A, but I enjoyed this class. We touched on interesting topics, and definitely kick started my thinking process this first semester back in school.

When I was taking his class (ENG 200) online, there was a set routine for every week so it made it easy to plan how to do the work throughout the class. Professor Barlow is a great teacher. Hes very caring and has pretty interesting discussions. We had to read a book for class but he provided it for free, you just had to pick it up in his office. His discussions were pretty interesting and focused mainly on music and feminist ideas. I highly recommend!!

Professor Barlow is one of the best Professors I came across at Saddleback. He gives interesting papers to read, very understanding if you submit something late. I would have gotten an A but didn't have the time to re-write an essay due to 17 units and full time work with a toddler. He is excellent! I am taking 1B with him next semester!

These assignments were interesting, relevant, and progressed you to be better at analysis and writing. Barlow gave great feedback, and you had to work to get an A. Online/Covid. Reading/music video assignments at the beginning were DRY & outdated. Once you get past that, it's a great class. One that builds for sure. Stick with it, respond to the weekly discussion boards, do the 5 essays and you're good! He gives great feedback. Take this class if you like writing, but know writing is NOT your future. ;)

There are 4 essays for the entire semester, with weekly reading on discussion questions. The grading was very lenient and very easy to get good grades. Simply do the tiny amount of work he requires you to do, and it is an easy A. Not only that but all of our essays had very interesting topics centered around music that I actually had fun writing.

He's a really nice dude and brews up a bunch of philosophical ideas. Loved his class!

Barlow truly cares about your ability in english writing as he gives excellent communication and feedback. + the assignments are fairly spaced out and gives us so much times to write given the 4 essays, last one being 2,500+ words. Easy A if you participate and get everything turned in on time.

Essay word counts are very little, just as long as you follow what is required, you'll do well. English is my weakest subject, but Barlow somehow made it my strongest.

English is probably my least favorite subject and Professor Barlow's English 1A course was perfect for me. I really didn't need to spend much time reading, I was very comfortable with completing each of the essays in an hour or so. Pretty easy A if you do the work on time.

he's a good professor but missed some of our classes and sent an email the morning of, which I thought was pretty unprofessional. The material is interesting and the essays are the right amount of challenging, which is good. He also takes a long time to grade and post grades online, which was also annoying at times. But overall a good professor.

Lots of writing assignments, but I didn't suspect anything different. He doesn't leave comments, but emails everyone to discuss the assignment grades. If you don't enjoy or at least like to write, don't take this. The final was a 2,500-word essay (12 pages). Overall, the class wasn't bad, just stay on top of work.

My best tip is reach out to him and ask for help on your essay, submit what you have, he will guide you on what he wants and how to perfect it to get an A. Took him online but he's still very active in your learning. Grading for essays and discussion boards is pretty lenient, got full points on almost everything, but he doesn't give feedback. Lets you turn in late work. As stem major, I appreciated the straightforward format of his class and how the workload and assignments were very manageable.

Professor Barlow is a very intellectual savvy person, he shows a clear understanding of his material and shows an extreme passion towards teaching it. I really enjoyed taking his class due to his caring demeanor, and inspirational teachings. He also gives great freedom in creativity in his writing prompts really including the class.

Took Dr. Barlow for online ENG 1A. 4 essays (60%), couple of timed writings on lockdown browser (20%) + discussion participation for other 20%. Well-structured class, easy/fair grader on the required essays, was very responsive to emails. Doesn't provide much feedback on your writing though, kinda wish he would have done more of that. Great guy.
