His classes are hard but informative, as a Geog. minor I think he was one of the best.
I took Dan for several classes and I LOVED his style. He is very organized, very clear and very willing to help his students understand the material. Dan is 100% passionate about what he teaches which makes learning from him a blast. I recommend taking every possible class he has to offer...this man is a true professor.
Dan was very helpful and straight forward. I liked his use of materials and the website where he posted reviews and extras. This class is not hard if you just pay attention. I found it similiar to a high school class in that it was very easy to understand if you just put forth a little effort. I would take it again if I had to.
I've had 3 classes with professor bedford. I love his british accent. I think he is very knowedgable about everything he teaches and he teaches very well. He is one of my most favorite professors, because I learned more in his classes than in any other. I totally recommend taking a class from him...don't expect it to be a piece of cake, though.
Intelligent, passionate and informative. His class was at times difficult, (as most auditorium style teachers are at a disatvanage). Yet he pulled of an excellent class. Top notch teacher.
Great class!! He's from the UK and has lots and lots of good jokes. Made geography interesting!! Great lectures with awsome power point presentations.
This class is a bit difficult but power points are kept online for students. His lectures cover test material and you really don't need to look at the book very much if you just want a passing grade. He's also very helpful and explains the material well enough for any idiot to understand.
Interesting perspective of the world and cultures from someone not originally from the United States. Fun class, fun professor.
Recommended! Fantastic look on the world outside America with a teacher from England. Will help you learn about the world outside these sheltered walls. Fair, but tough grader. Expect to do all the work and not just skim by if you want a good grade. Will help expand worldly perspectives.
I've never had a professor that is so dedicated to helping the students learn the material and succeed. He is one of the very best professors I've ever had. He is picky in grading-he really wants to know that you know the material-but I've learned so much from him for it. His class was not easy, but I can't wait to take another one from him.
Dan is an awesome teacher! He does not favor people in his class and you can really tell that he has a personal interest in the subject he is teaching. This class is the only class I really enjoy and it is because he is passionate about the information dispersed in class. Very smart guy!! A+
I really really liked this Dan. He made each class fun and interesting. i found it very easy to follow his lectures and rarely lost focus. His test are really straight forward as long as you pay attention in class you should be able to ace them.
Learned a lot in this class, he tries his hardest to keep it interesting. He is always upbeat and you can really tell he enjoys what he teaches.I got by without buying the book, he has power points that he puts online which are helpful. However, I felt his tests were hard. He loads his study guides with information and a lot of it isn't on the test
Talked about the EU a tad bit too much. Essay format tests. Lovely British accent which held my attention. Genuinely a nice person, and eager to help his students. Sensitive and respectful to cultural differences.
if you want to "enjoy" his english accent at the price of a D grade...take his course! exams can be from any possible words he said in class...bring a recorder to class and listen over and over then you might get a C...homework need to be extremely tidy and clean...
Based off the reviews I took this class. No, he seems nice. Very opinionated. Forces his views of others in the class to the point of embarrassment. Slideshows through the whole class down to the last minute. Geography tutor didn't understand his homework. Boring don't recomend.
One of the best teacher I have ever had. I have one week left of class and am sad that it is over. He is engaging and easy to follow. The test aren't that difficult if you study. Me and a classmate are thinking about taking another one of his classes. Highly recommend.
Very helpful teacher! Lots of slidshows but really breaks down the topics and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. I didn't even buy the textbook and passed with a B+. Exams are minor difficult.
Based off the reviews I took this class. Mistake! All he shows is slideshows. From the second class starts till it ends he does not stop with the slideshows. Forces his opinions on you. He says that he doesn't believe in making things easy for us. So goes out of his way to make them harder. All this for a general education class
Most boring class I've ever taken. Everything on the test isn't covered in class so at home studying is mandatory. very little homework, though.
If I could go back I wouldn't take this class again. This man drove me absolutely crazy. The material was somewhat difficult and very boring and he made none of that any better. If you need any help don't expect it from him. Don't take his class.
Very fun and spontaneous fellow, and a fair grader. I once disputed an answer on a test and he let me have the point; first time this has happened outside of a math class for me.
Dan Bedford is one of the best professors at WSU! He is so energetic and he loves what he teaches, and for me, that really helps. I also loved his accent. I got an A. I think he changed the curriculum because I definitely used my book/needed it. His exams are easy if you use the study guide, which he fills out for you! :)
He is an awesome teacher! His accent makes things all the more better, and he really knows everything there is to know when it comes to his subject. He is very willing to help you with anything, even if it does not apply to his subject. Wonderful teacher.
It is true what people saying that he is energetic. He really does love what he teaches. But don't get your hopes up because he really is a hard teacher. A lot of out of class studying is required. His lectures rarely cover even half of what is on the test. Good class though if you are willing to put some work into it.
Dan Bedford is one of my favorite teachers at WSU! Not only does he love what he teaches, he also desires students to understand and love it too! Yes the class is more heavy on work load, but if your in to learn, this is an amazing class!! Keep your book close though, it is used often!
This guy is an amazing teacher. I would recommend getting into any of his classes. He really gets you excited about the subject instead of just lecturing he teaches.
I enjoyed his class, he is very helpful, he teaches to teach every student. He uses visuals and he explains it. Little homework. You do need to attend to pass the class!!! His tests are hard, but if you go to class, and study you'll pass. He wants you to learn. Great teacher but he does use every minute of class to the last day
Interesting lectures and assignments
Dan is an awesome guy! He really knows his stuff. He is very willing to work with you if you don't understand something. The exams are easy, he gives you a review sheet to study. The papers are very informative. Great class!
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. If you need to take any geography classes, please try and avoid him. He is so mean, singled me out in class all the time telling me how terrible I was and would write mean comments on my papers almost bringing me to tears everytime. His assignments are ridiculously hard and not necessary.
This class wasn't very hard. There are very few assignments. If you thoroughly read and understand his study guides, you can always do well on his tests.
SUCH AN AMAZING PROFESSOR! He had such an entertaining class. He makes you understand the material very clearly and gives you study guides that tell you what will be on the test. I always enjoyed going to this class and the tests are way easy if you just listen in class and study the study guide.
Dr. Bedford (Dan) is one of the best professors I have ever had. He made a subject that I previously had no understanding of very interesting and understandable. He is extremely intelligent but is able to explain things in a way that most people can relate to. All of his lectures were informative & fun. He is a GREAT professor.
This class is not an easy one, let me make that clear. But, Pro. Bedford is a great professor. Everything he lectures on is on the test, and he has a very helpful study guide. But, his tests are pretty diffcult. He wants you to understand the material, not just know it.
Dan was such a wonderful teacher, he was always so upbeat and enthusiastic about the subject and it made it so much easier to learn about!
Amazing Professor. Take his class to learn what you need! Passionate and fabulous! Don't like to read or study, move on. If you don't like to study; or you like to slack off, and be a flake don't take this Professor.
Awesome! Seriously the best prof. I had all semest. Really interesting during lecture and he makes really boring material interesting. I only used the book for the final, the rest is just take notes and pay attention in class. Really fun and great to work with.
Professor Bedford is awesome! He isn't boring and has little homework. He does make you do little group work in class but its easy. You get 3 homeworks through the whole semester and the tests are based off what he teaches in class. The textbook was only used to study. Great class and Professor!
Awesome professor! Was really impressed by his teaching style. I was never bored. 3 homework assignments and one paper. Also three tests. If you listen and use his study guide you will do well!
Bedford is a good professor, but he is a tough grader. Take good notes! my notes helped me more than his study guides. He is particular in his grading, but a good professor and interesting subject.
This is one of the best teachers Weber State has. Dan is able to take confusing material and make up fun ways for you to remember it. You HAVE to go to class. He does make you write long essays, but that is a side note from the awesome teacher he is!
His teaching style is playful in that he thinks he is funny but isn't. His lectures are really good but his tests are hard so take good notes. 3 homework assignments and a self guided field trip which are easy. He does want you to participate usually in groups but your not graded on anything he just wants you to think about what he is teaching.
Dan is the man! I was skeptical about taking this class, but it ended up being super interesting and easy to pass. Never opened the book to study. He gives great study guides. Not to mention he is from London so he has an awesome accent. ;) 3 assignments, 1 project and 3 exams. All fairly easy. Would definitely take another class from him!
Excellent lecturer, clear and concise, does everything he can to help students succeed, offers extra credit for those willing to obtain it, great discussions. Expects students to be thorough and write well. Loved this class!!
Wonderful class, great teacher, expect to work hard, would love to take more classes taught by Professor Bedford. He really teaches out of the box, involves the class into his lectures.
This class is Easy. All you really have to do is show up and listen to the lectures, take notes, and do the Study guides and you will be fine. you don't need to get the textbook, he gives all the info you need in his power points.
Fantastic teacher on the subject, he understand that this is a generals course. His homework assignments can be a bit confusing but he is willing to help and they get easier as the class goes by. Lectures can be long because a lot of material is covered but it's very clear and relevant to the class.
Dan, "The Man," Bedford is a really cool guy and I really like him. But his 1000 level course, he treats it like an upper division and really crams a lot of content into it. He's a tough grader and if you don't get the exact answer he's looking for, you will miss the credit. Given that there's only three tests in the entire class, they are HARD
My problem with the class is my lack of interest in Geography. If I cared I probably would have done a lot better, but I skipped class often and I did the minimum outside of class. You can still manage to pass easily without going to class. Everything is straight out of the book, he just organizes it for you.
You will learn a lot in this class, as Dr. Bedford covers a lot of information -- we often run out of time before exams are due. However, he provides study guides for them, and the exams are pretty clear without trying to trick you into a wrong answer. 3 assignments, 1 project, and daily (but easy) group work make up the rest of class. Recommended!
One of the best professors on campus! Incredibly happy he came to call his home in Ogden. Learned mountains of information in his classes. You will not get your grade for free, but he is fair.
Professor Bedford is one of the best Professors on campus. He is extremely knowledgeable in his subjects. You will work for your grade, but he will help you every step of the way. Communication is key, so let him know if you have concerns.
Only 3 homework assignments. Easy to do. Fairly easy tests. Review your notes and the powerpoints and the chapters and you're set. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. You can earn up to 10% extra credit. So there's no reason you couldn't pass the class.
Professor Bedford was helpful for getting me interested on the subject of Geography. He is very clear on the scientific facts, but don't be afraid to refer to the textbook before lectures and class discussions. His sense of humor and openness to new ideas made for a very comfortable classroom. He does not appreciate phones in the classroom though.
This is my first class with P. Bedford and happy it was my last. The assignments look straightforward, but when he returns it after his grading it has been slaughtered. My papers had just as much of his writing as my own typed. Brutal, I felt secure in my knowledge of stats, not now. Unless you are going to publish papers, find a different route!
Although Dan is intelligent, he can be a bit condescending. However, his Global Warming class is excellent. The 4 assignments and 3 exams were challenging, but fair, with tons of extra credit to help balance your grade. Participation is graded, so speak up in class. There's also group work involving a computer game, so get a good group together.
Dr. Bedford is an awesome teacher and super intelligent. So intelligent that he makes me uneasy like a super-villain would. Whenever I get intimidated by him, I just remind myself that he rides a bicycle everywhere.
Dr. Bedford lectures are long. He lectures throughout the class and try his hardest to get everyone interacting with is lecture. His exams are super condense ( study guide are helpful if you study the whole thing 14+pages) the exam is multiple choice and you do have extra credit opportunities.
Dan makes you work for your grades. Hes a good prof. And wants the best for this students but the exams are tough usually 15-20pg study guide. The homework assignments are okay not difficult but he grades them hard. The semester project is super easy and extra credit is given only to earn 10pts. He is more than willing to help his students out.
This class was very informative and intriguing. I absolutely love physical sciences so I loved this class but I could see others finding it a bit boring. He is very knowledgeable and passionate. He loves to have you discuss concepts in groups and likes people to participate in class. He is also British so his accent was really entertaining!
Dan is really caring professor! He remembers students' names, as long as they participate and give him the opportunity to get to know them. He is a really good speaker and get the message across clearly. I learned a lot in this class and enjoyed attending! 10/10 I would take another class from him!
I've never heard someone talk so much about so little. You'll learn more about geography in a middle school science class. If you enjoy a class that wants participation and is super easy, go for Dan's class. If you like learning about science, don't take Dan's class.
He graded the majority of my written work, he tries to help you shape your work to be its best. Very thought provoking, asks a ton of questions. Although the class wasn't about climate science, that's his field so we talked about it a lot, great discussions and clearly knows his stuff. I took him for Honors: Construction of Knowledge. Great class.
So many positives - learned so much - and touched on so many areas I was not aware of!
Great at getting the classroom involved with each lecture.
I love Dan! He is a very caring professor and you can tell he loves his students and what he teaches. I am not one for science but he made his class easy to understand and made it a fun class to go to. 10/10 would take again.
Its absurd how well rated Bedford is, he does not deserve 4/5. Do not take this class . Way too strict at grading, expects you to teach yourself material he does not cover, group projects that people don't even communicate each other with. AND he gives advice in a rude way.
I took Dan for Construction of Knowledge and he was an excellent teacher! He co-taught with Christy Call. He had a wonderful outlook on different things and his scientific background added to discussions. You do a lot of readings in this class, so be prepared. Dan is respectful and won't belittle the comments you make.
I am absolutely honored to have been able to take fall semester Geography 1000 by Professor Dan Bedford. He is the most knowledgeable Professor I have ever met thus far & is simply amazing, up beat and inspiring. I love his reverence for the world and his teachings and he is overall my favorite professor! highly recommended Yolanda Valdez 12-15-22
Group project was tough because every member of my group ghosted me until the night before the assignment. I approached him multiple times with my concerns and was basically told to just wait and see if they do the work. Everyone got the same grade on the project, even though I did everything, and he knew that.
Dr Bedford was amazing as my honors professor. He knows so much about his field of study and cares about his students more than any of my other professors have. I always love to hear what he has to say (the British accent helps). He grades very fairly. You'll get a good grade if you're trying. He does a great job of encouraging independent thinking
Bedford's great and this class is extremely easy. He is very understanding and tries to give you the best education he can, and is super lenient on grading. The group project was a nightmare but it's nothing that can tank your grade so it's not that big of a deal. He's very passionate and I can't recommend him enough!
Dan is great. He is very knowledgeable in his field of study, and if you have questions he will always have an answer to them. He also makes sure that you are understanding what he is teaching, and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. Highly recommend him! His British accent is pretty cool too.
I had Dr. Bedford's Construction of Knowledge course in conjunction with Dr. Call, and absolutely loved it. This was a course I had to take for my scholarship, but I'm so glad I did. It's a discussion-based course where you'll review thought-provoking assigned materials (section of a novel, articles, etc.) and discuss. Convos were great. 10/10.
Fantastic professor, but... he doesn't let you take digital notes, or be on your laptop, in class, which I disagree with but is whatever. If you were to avoid him it would be for the mandatory group projects (been the case in two classes I've taken of his). However, he's a very forgiving grader, and his classes are generally easy. Good lectures too
He is nice and funny but if you don't like science this is gonna be a tough class. His tests are not easy and his review for them are like 15 pages long for one test. Lots of homework but they're are overall pretty easy.
I loved this class! There are quick assignments due between every class, but they are worth very few points and are super easy. There are three total exams (with two attempts each), two easy papers, and two homework assignments. Dr. Dan provides good feedback on everything and is easily accessible outside of class.
Dan was a very good professor and really was knowledgeable about Geography as a whole. He conveyed ideas that I haven't heard in other geography classes I have taken before. Would definitely suggest taking his class if you have time.
I really loved Professor Bedford! He has a British accent which is a bonus! There are little quizzes that you have to complete before each class, but they are super easy. If you study the study guide that he provides, you will do great on the tests! You get points for being in class. I liked this class and thought the lectures were interesting.
This class is now a hybrid class with 4 field trips and the rest is online. I really enjoyed it, and Dan was very thorough. As my time at Weber comes to a close, Dan was perhaps the most influential in my college journey, and helped a lot, especially through emails. After multiple classes with him, Dan became one of my favorite profs.

Dan was my favorite professor this semester! He's so funny and is very accomadating to students in tough situations. While there is a bit of homework before every class, it's nothing unbearable. Don't need this class for my major, but still learned a lot of useful knowledge that is applicable to modern day situations.
Professor Bedford was an amazing teacher but an even better person. He really cares about his students and ensures everyone is succeeding. Every week, there is a decent amount of homework but it is not long homework assignments. I took him last semester and he is still my favorite professor. Recommend him to everyone!
