He knows what he's talking about..very laid-back..
He's awesome...very laid back and hardly uptight. You'll think about things you would have never thought about before.

HE IS AN AMAZINGLY NICE AND SMART MAN. I HAD HIM TWICE AND DON'T REGRET ONE SECOND OF IT!
very fun, interesting...deep convo in stoner format ::lol::
he's very laidback. fun & interesting class.
Totally awesome and enjoyable class to go to.
Awesome professor! You learn without trying in his class...just sit and listen. Very intellegent man. Picks great readings. A little unorthodox, but that just makes the class so enjoyable. He's a little vague when assigning paper topics, but is willingly to help those who ask.
One of the best teachers i have ever had. He is so intelligent its amazing. Its an amazing class
Mr. Bentley-Baker is not only extremely intelligent, but also outrageously funny and witty. I took this class for my core Arts credit. Coming in I was only hoping for a good grade. But leaving I felt like I learned so much. I was really proud of the short story I wrote and the feedback he gave me!
I took him in the Summer 2004 and I loved the class. He's funny as hell and the easy is very easy! No Midterms, finals, or quizzes. Just sit and listen and you will pass.
Really intelligent, knows his stuff, and his classes never get boring. He keeps the class awake with his wittiness and often class discussion. Loved his class, was very clear and concise, consistent with his grading. Only had two one page papers and a larger research paper, but the class was cake.
He's a great teacher. If you don't like English, like me, he's the teacher to have because he makes the class interesting and he's pretty good about letting the class out early!!!
REALLY SMART AND WITTY GUY.. His lectures are very interesting and the class is easy if you do the two one page papers and the long research paper at the end.. no quizzes, exams or finals he is awesome!
ONLINE-I took Dr.Baker online fall 05 and he was great! It is a little hard to understand at the begining because you think he wants alot done, however there are only 2 main assignments that make your grade for him and if you get a bad grade on one, he allows you to retake it at the end of the semester Cool Online Teacher B.R.Young
Very easy and makes the class interesting
Life in Professor Bentley-Baker's class was pretty comfortable. The assignments are pretty straightforward and not too demanding; we wrote 2 short essays and 1 long one due the last day of class. The fun comes from his witty lectures and activities he has us do, like reading a play or story with others or watching a movie (i.e., Oedipus Rex).
One of the best professors at FIU, he's very clever, interesting and easygoing. I loved his class, and even though you dont have to go to class, you'll end up going, beacuse it's fun.
Very cool guy. Very helpful and honest with writing also into obscure writers and music. Fun guy to talk to.
Awesome professor. I didn't even have to blink and I aced this class. He's so nice about everything and funny too.
If you like fun and easy classes (like most of us do) then take this professor. He is very easy-going and not a hard grader AT ALL. All of his stories are funny and you will enjoy this class. You will find yourself learning some interesting techiniques in writing as you go along and won't even know it because the class is so great! **Reccommended**
Cool Teacher
Yes!! I am the best!! But hes a good teacher!!! Even though I am the best!!
ONLINE. Great professor. Really easy, just do Most of the work.

I loved Prof. Bently-Baker. His class is super fun and interesting. I took him the following semester in CRW-2001. That was very easy as well. He is pretty slack about grades as long as he sees that you gave it a shot.
Great guy, good sense of humor and interesting. Class is laid back and easy to pass.
Great teacher, books for this class are awesome! Shows films and makes class interesting. I liked this guy a lot.
very simple class get A's two out of three papers and you get an A in the class.
Great, excellent, smart, experienced.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CLASS AND I HATE ENGLISH, HE MAKES IT VERY INTERESTING, DEFINATELY THE BEST PROFESSOR AT FIU!
great professor. fun, interesting. He grades really well. NO quizzes, NO tests. his personality makes the class enjoyable. i recommend this class with him.
the best prof.
teach is real funny and laid back. had 4 papers and those are the only grades. he grades pretty easy but the grading is a little tougher has class goes on. very flexible with due dates. any questions you have just call him. made the class fun, it was basically just one big discussion the whole semester.
I loved this class. I was really scared because I wasn't sure if my papers would be strong enough, but I got all A's. Just keep in touch with him if you can't make it to class or turn in something. He's very flexible about due dates, just actually write the paper. I learned about new authors I would have never discovered on my own. Fun discussions!
The best English professor! He stimulates interest in course material, a fair grader, and truly cares about his students even when you're done with his class. A scholar who can teach--he's a rare breed. I highly recommend him if you love writing and literature...he may just change your life for the better. He shows how underpaid good teachers are!
awesome teacher. take something with him!
Ass yew kan tel frum mi por riting scills i shuld not hav gottan an A en englush but i did? Ok OK OK joking great teacher...actually amazing take him!
great teacher
This man is a GOD! He boosts self esteem and writing skills and is funny as hell.

The best English professor at FIU, very smart, intelligent and has a great sence of humor. The class is very easy. He grades fairly. Just come in class, say something during a discussion, and write a paper which is not hard at all. You even don't have to be a "hot chic from other place," just try to use your brains at lease a little bit.
Dan is the man, so to speak. His teaching style is extremely stimulating. He's brilliant, articulate and funny. He makes it a point to learn everyone's name and as long as you approach him, he'll be glad to help out with any problems, and deadlines are never a problem with him. HIGHLY reccomended. I'm taking another class with him this semester.
Excellent teacher. We studied focused on two authors this summer semester, Hemingway and Bishop. Bently-Baker explains a lot the psychoalalytic aspects of the reading and the author, he knows a lot on that subject. Has an interesting way of teaching. He can help students at almost anytime. Attendance and participation are important for the final gd
Great Teacher!!! Very helpful and super easy to pass!!!
Awesome teacher. Very funny guy. Just go to class and spend some time writing and researching for the papers ...easy A.
I've taken him twice, and if he teaches anything else I can take, I will take him again. You need to go to class, but it's really interesting you want to. He gives a lot of freedom with the papers too. Highly reccomend!!!! I took him for 1102 and approaches to lit.
Super easy!! Hes very touchy about attendance but he's a great teacher and he makes you understand everything, plus he's into creativity so his papers are actually fun
Best experience in my life
As long as you show up, and show interest in discussion and the material you will get an A. It should be very difficult not to do well in the class, you just can't be ridiculous.
This guy is unbelievable. He is very very very liberal and enjoys discussing things that are taboo like drugs, underage drinking, homosexuality, prostitution, and such. Really knowledgeable and def. makes class very interesting all the time. one of the few classes i rarely fell asleep in.
=) Okay...Let's see where to start. I like this professor. He knows alot about the course. Very easy going as long as you do what he asks for. Interesting class. -AHEM- Yaki
Really nice guy, trys to be funny but fails at it. pretty easy class. attendance counts and if you miss class he tells the whole world why you did. he's nice and goes out of his way to help you. great guy but his lectures sometimes get boring. we only wrote two papers and if you want you can write a third to bring up your grade. no quizzes at all!
Great Professor! Prior to taking his class I DREADED research paper and now I actually enjoy them! Very interesting and always catches to the chase. Just attend class it's worth it. He is extremely helpful and gives a lot of leeway with his assignmets. His grading is more than fair. Take him, you won't regret it! Super cool Professor!
Very good professor, he actually cares about the students and has a very unique teaching style. VERY FLEXIBLE with deadlines, just make sure to actually do the assignment and thats what he really cares about. Very funny guy, actually a pretty fun class and you learn a lot about bussiness writing that will probably be useful to you in the future!

The best professor I have ever taken. He structured his class to help the students as much as possible. I really recommend taking him.
He is excellent and make students think. He really knows the material and focuses on what is really important without wasting time in trivialities. He is diffrent, dynamic, funny but, at the same time, he really has a lot of wisdom. Take him, it will be more a life experience that a mandatory silly course.
Amazing professor. Class is interesting and draws you in. Grades fairly and is more than willing to help students outside of class. Take a course with him!!
He is an awesome professor. I'd recommend his class to anyone who needs to fill up a credit or for their major. Very interedted in helping you out and does his best to make sure you are passing his class. Super cool professor, and his stories will keep you intertained. You'll learn a lot more than you think in his class.
I had Dan in my second semester of college, & he was the professor that actually inspired me to change my major to English. He's surely one of the best professors I've ever had, & gives a very reflective insight on anything he teaches. You couldn't ask for anyone more intelligent & cultured. He is the 'real deal' as an introductory English teacher.
Easy but real wierdo. Knows his material and is fair with grades.
well, baker is such a great teacher- HE HANDS OUT HIS CELL PHONE NUMBER, and actually calls to discuss your papers- very understanding but YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS
Prof. Bentley-Baker has been, by far, my favorite professor since I've start univ. He above all values people's input in class, speak out and he'll love you. He's eccentric but a really fun professor and I'm also taking him for Creative Writing. He gets an A++ in my book :)
Great teacher! Makes class fun and interesting. Took him during Summer A.
1 of the best professors ever. He doesn't care much about grades, but wants to learn from students. You can learn a lot from him; he's very intelligent. Cut down from 2 papers to 1 (5-11 pages/Topic is optional). His main goal is to help the students develop. Apply yourself to learning and you'll be fine--he makes this easy for his students.
Greatest teacher ever. I've taken two of his classes and plan on taking a third... I've taken ENC 1102 and Approaches to Lit. Best teacher, funny, easy, interesting. Love him
this was an enjoyable class. he is a very interesting and intelligent professor. he was always very helpful and clear with the assignments. overall a fun and useful class.
Outstanding Teacher, very dedicated to teaching and explain what he requires for good marks. Well spoken and clear on his expectations. By far the best professor I've ever had the privilege of meeting.
This professor is knowledgeable about film. He keeps the class interesting. He gives easy quizzes from a great, but pricey, textbook. He shows parts of movies & some full short films that we then discuss. The assignments were the quizzes, a scene analysis on a movie we chose, a film log and a research paper on any topic. Highly Recommended.
Bentley-Baker is a great guy. Awesome teacher who is very helpful and useful! He's awesome! He makes you love coming to class! It's easy just come to class, hear his fun lectures, and write your papers!
easiest A yet
One of the coolest people you'll ever meet. His teaching approach is fantastic: makes heavy topics easy to understand and very engaging. He comes off as a know-it-all intellectul but he's well aware of it. Gives out few grades but his grading policy is very fair. You WILL learn a lot from him.
This professor required reading the textbook, but the tests were really easy and tries to help you get a better grade.
I RECOMMEND (yes all caps) taking his class. He made coming to class interesting. You have to do all the work, but he makes it interesting. He is also VERY understanding when it comes to deadlines.
Amazing teacher. Come to class you will not regret it. Funny, interesting and as long as you put effort towards the paper your sure to do well.
had him for enc 1101 and eng 2012. EASY! hes the coolest teacher in fiu, if he taught more classes i would take them, hes smart and knows his stuff. and the work is only a few papers like 2 or 3 and light reading and hes an easy grader, you wont regret it. and the papers are like 4 or 5 pgs double-spaced. im a lazy slacker and i got an A lol
Our grade consisted of two papers (which he offers assistance for via email AND cellphone all semester) and his lectures are very interesting, although it was a literature class, Professor Bentley Baker was also educated in psychology, film, and psychoanalysis, often blending these fields to express other relevant concepts. Highly recommended. I en
Dude is funny. Looks like Agent Smith or the councilor from South Park. His papers are easy if you know what you are doing. Three essays papers in total. Get an 'A' on the first two you don't have to do the third.
Dan has become more of a mentor than just a professor to me. He is extremely knowledgeable, not only about his subjects, but the world at large. You will learn about whatever subject he's teaching and more. Makes you want to come to class. Extremely forgiving with deadlines and semantics, and FUNNY to boot. Can't say enough good things about him.
He's a funny and interesting person. However, I felt like I didn't take away much from this class. It's a literature class, yet I feel like we talked about everything but the literature. He may be better for other classes (such as film studies), but as an English major who likes studying literature, I found myself a bit disappointed.
Great professor! The class is very simple three papers and if you get an A on the first two you don't have to do the third. Take his class for you humanities you wont regret it.Whether you like Literature or not you can pass, and those who do like literature will enjoy the class.
Dan is amazing. Take him! He knows so much about everything, it's insane. Every class you learn so much, and it's only 2 papers! You just need to put effort towards the class. Dan is smart and is so willing to help his students, if you have a question about anything, he'll help. The BOMB!! I'd take him again in a second.
Dan is definitely my favorite professor! He actually knows what he's talking about and cares about his students. I learned a lot from him.
Also took Dan for ENG 2012. He is one of, if not, the best professors I have taken at FIU. very helpful and friendly. genuinely a great person to know and to talk to. very knowledgeable and thought provoking. not much hard work. just essays, what do u expect from a literature/writing class? hes good with grading and will help u if u need it.
Very few teachers have touched and engaged me in my academia career; he is one of them. He is extremely down to earth and has a great ability to connect with his students. His class is a reflection of him: ease and delight. Although he is comedic, he takes teaching serious. Take his class and you WILL learn not only about the 'novel' but about life
Easy A. Only two essays and you had to write a proposal or two, but you get credit for just turning it in. He's awesome though. He had Kashmir as his ring tone. Need I say more?
Sorry I meant ENG 2012. Anyways, one more thing I forgot to mention he would randomly give out free quiz grades if you got to class on time. Oh he gave everyone his personal line so you can contact him whenever you needed him.

Funny, witty, great teacher! Class consists of 3 essays. I have to admit, I thought I would get a C but this teacher ensured that I would get an A. Great guy, a must for any english major. One of the TA's is a bad grader, but luckily the professor is VERY available at his office on Fridays and by appointments any other day. I loved this class.
Interesting professor who looks a lot like Clint Eastwood. Class consists of 3 essays and gives out extra credit if you go to class. He is extremely easy to talk to and is very clear in what he wants. Essays are graded by TA's though.
This is my second and hopefully not final class with Dr. Baker. He's knows what he's talking about, he's very clear in his expectations, and has a witty, dry sense of humor. Come to class because he gives out surprise extra credit when few people show up. Three papers (drops lowest of the three), and not much reading. Excellent professor.
Recommend him to anyone, i hate writing and i did good in the class. Easy grader. Attendance not mandatory. Randomly gives 10 or 5 points of extra credit for people that show up to class when theres almost no one.
My engrish many better nao I take Dan with class. Professor Bentley-Baker is by far the best at FIU, maybe the whole world. I love him. I have had him for several film classes and short novel. Always interesting, always brilliant, always educational, and always a pleasure. Take him. It will be the best class you'll ever take in college!
He has the best sense of humor. Great guy, very easy to understand and does a great job at keeping the lectures interesting. He has extensive knowledge of (it seems) everything and tries to expand the student's horizons. Would definitely recommend it, it's an easy course with a fun guy.
By far the most witty, interesting, and engaging intellectual you will encounter. He may seem like he has an unlimited knowledge about anything, that's because he does. A few quizzes based off reading, two papers, and a film log. Made me love and appreciate film and literature even more than I did originally. Take him for ANYTHING. You WILL learn.
This prof. was very entertaining and very wise and witty. Yet, he was not even the professor of the class. His ta's graded everything and in the end it was pretty much up to them. Attendance is mandatory but I never really learned anything in class. I passed but expected a higher grade.
Extremely knowledgeable about pretty much everything; engages students and makes them think. Amazing teacher.
Easy class. Three papers and the lowest one gets dropped so you only have to do well in 2 out of three. If you are really bad at writing go to the writing center. I passed the class with an A.
Bentley-Baker is the man. There is no other professor quite like him. He's weird in the best possible way. I have taken two classes with him and am looking forward to a third this summer. A must-have FIU English experience.
3 papers and he drops the lowest one. In essence not so difficult BUT he does not grade the papers, his TA's do. He will not correct your grade even if the TA made a mistake. He says he wants one thing but the TA's grade another. He can also be very rude in his attempt to seem funny. I wouldn't take Prof Bentley-Baker again.
This professor is fun and really outgoing, but like the person said under me he doesn't grade the paper so the TA wants one thing and he says another. so its a bit confusing. but other than that literaly no homework, just papers.
I loved this class! Professor is really good and funny. You will learn a lot and enjoy yourself. It is a big class and a TA grades the papers, but I thought it was fair. I went to him concerning a grade I received and the professor was very helpful. I would definitely take him again and would recommend him to anyone.
The Professor knows his material, but it's the TA's who grade the 3 papers. The TA's are a bunch of incompetent asses that think they're gods gift to the english world. Bentley-Baker is a solid guy, but I wouldnt take this class because of these stupid TA's
took him for two classes in the same semester and passed. Best professor ever. If you fail him you dont deserve to be in college.
The professor is really funny and he's nice, but he doesn't grade the papers. There are 3 papers and the TA's grade them, and they're not good. I wouldn't recommend this class if you don't like writing.
I've taken two classes with this professor and he is really good. Not a hard grader as long as you do what you're supposed to and attend class. Really knowledgeable, you'll learn a lot from him.
I've taken two classes with this professor and he is really good. Got an A in both. Not a hard grader as long as you do what you're supposed to and attend class. Really knowledgeable, you'll learn a lot from him.
He is an awesome professor. I didn't do much. Just wrote a story, poem and wrote why I did. Whatever notes I had I included it in the folder and received perfect a grade. DONE. He's really fun to talk with too. TAKE HIM!
Absolutely loved Dr.Baker he is definitely a character he made me laugh during the whole semester his classes were very interesting and fun he engages the students during lectures and is open to different opinions and views. I couldn't get enough of his sarcasm it's hilarious the work was not bad at all two papers and a few quizzes easy A
It was a great and interesting class. The writing assignments are easy and cool. He's also funny and interesting and helpful. We had group discussions most of the time and it was never boring.
Excellent professor! He is hilarious and gives interesting lectures. I really enjoyed his class and would recommend him to anyone. he is not hard at all as long as you do all your work.
Dr.Bentley-Baker is the man at FIU. He employs a unique style of teaching. The type of Professor that helps students, if you ask!!! I took his class last fall and reflecting on it now, I wish he taught more English courses. There was 6 Essays, 1 Presentation and a Final. Very lenient grader, I passed with an A!
He is AWESOME! Easy grader, super helpful, can be boring but snaps you outta your daze with a hilarious joke. Very understanding of busy schedules. As long as all work is turned in by the last day of class, he's happy. One presentation, midterm, final, and little assignments here and there.
Fantastic! A few quizzes straight out of the book, 7 film blogs and a final scene analysis. Only due date is last day of class. Highly recommend! Attendance is an option!
Great class, learned a lot! Book is mandatory because tests are mostly based on the book. About ten quizzes, ten-15 questions each, final Film analysis, all due by last day of class. Attendance is optional!
Bentley-Baker is one of those professors that drones on and on and he believes his anecdotes are helping, but most of the time they confuse the class. However, his class is easy to pass. There are three papers, only two of which you are required to write. Overall, if you listen to his requirements there is no way you can fail.
Bentley-Baker is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lecutres are always interesting and he has a really great sense of humor. Class was very easy, expecting an A. He is also very prompt in responding to emails and is very approachable if you have questions or concerns. Loved the class and could listen to him talk all day.
amazing teacher. sarcastic and makes students laugh. no HW and easy grader. drops 2 out of the 3 papers, if you get an A on the first two he doesn't make you continue going to class.
2nd time taking him online, he is a great person who wants to see students succeed in life, evident in the way he lectures. Class consists of online quizzes and a film analysis essay. If you attend online lectures or watch the recordings, he tells you exactly what he expects in the film analysis. Also curves a higher grade if you participate.
Absolutely adore Bentley-Baker! Witty, sarcastic, extremely knowledgeable. Does have a tendency to babble on, but then comes round full circle. He's not kidding when he says the final is HARD from day one! Everything else easy. 4 discussions and gives extra credit. Watched 4 movie excerpts along with the books we read. Real eye opening subject!
Great experience for an online class. The due date for everything is the last day so you can work at your own pace I wish all classes were like this. I work full time and have kids so this was perfect. Great guy, fun class.
He's a nice guy, but very disorganized. The class meets once a week for 2.5 hours, we went over the syllabus during the third class. You have no idea what information to retain for future assignmentstests. The group assignments are unnecessary and juvenile. The readings are very intriguing. I don't recommend him for traditional students.
He's a silly professor. There are weekly online meetings in which you could ask questions. They are recorded, but it is recommended you attend because he counts it as participation. 5 quizzes (medium-easy) 7 blog entries (of which only the last is graded), and one thematicformal analysis essay. I don't know why he has a chili pepper...
Bently-Baker has to be one of if not if the BEST professor ever at FIU. He is interesting, funny, and real. A real no BS teacher, I had him for both Global Learning LIT3671 and ENG4132. We only had a few discussions and one paper at the end of the semester. If you take him online ALL your work is due at the end of the semester.
As I wrote in my evaluation of him in class: "Dan-Bentley Baker is a god among men." He's funny, his lectures are clear, the assignments are easy, and he's extremely friendly and helpful if you talk to him. I'd take this man's classes in a heart beat. +10 points for looking like an older Bill Nye The Science Guy.
I was worried at first to take this course during a mini term but he made it very easy. As long as you keep up with the syllabus you will be fine. All of my assignments were due the last week of the term, making it tempting to procrastinate. I ended up with an A.
Fantastic professor, fantastic man! He knows what's up. He is knowledgeable and makes passing with flying colors achievable. I was afraid of failing so I took notes all semester long, never missed a class, and took every extra credit opportunity. In the end, the final exam was a piece of cake because I was well prepared.
My favorite professor at FIU thus far. He just makes class so interesting and he encourages his students to make an impact. The assignments are incredibly easy, as are the blackboard tests, and he lets you turn in papers late. Super inspirational.
This guy is amazing, you have 3 short papers and he drops the lowest grade so if you do good on those first 2 you don't even have to go back to class. He's genuinely likable and funny, he seems intimidating at first but he's very understanding, let me turn in a paper a week late because i accidentally submitted it to the wrong link and i got a 97!
I had a specific emergency that happened outside of class that made me miss a bunch of classes. He was super accommodating and understood. 3 essays, drops the lowest one, and gives a ton of extra credit. Take him trust me he is an amazing lecturer and you wont regret taking his class.
Just show up and take notes. Midterm and final are open notes, discussions are easy grades. Do all the extra credit, trust me. The books we read are boring. I didn't read them though, I just printed notes and used them on the test. He does his best to make class interesting. You won't fall asleep with him.
Awesome Professor! Took him two times and I would take him again if available. Really great feedback and very caring!
This class was your typical boring English class. I liked that he used Bob Dylan for our poetry unit because it made it more enjoyable. He has a dry sense of humor and makes some comments that are offensive. He doesn't tell you, but if you get an A on 2 of the 3 papers you don't have to do the third paper. Put in the effort to end the class early.
The class was boring and I did not learn anything new with him but he is funny and knows what he is taking about. He offers major extra credit points by doing simple activities; do these and you will get an A even if you get low scores on the exams. Take good notes and participate, he could bump up your grade if he likes you.
Easy class as long as you complete the work by due date (one due date for everything). Easy material, but very interesting (especially if you like film). Take Baker for this class!
Professor Baker is the best English professor out there! Make sure and take him. He is one of the few that actually cares about the student. Crazy funny guy as well. Make sure and use the appointments to your advantage when it comes to papers.
Took him for global lit and he was telling the truth when he said exams are hard af. Take good notes and do the extra credit. He is cool and I liked the class even though I don't think I did do well.
He's a great professor, easy A if you pay attention in class and read the assigned novels. It's not a difficult class at all and it fills the GL credit. This was my second class with him and I'll be taking another next semester. Grateful to have him in the English department.
Notes are essential to passing exams. The exams are open book/notes but are difficult sometimes. He curves the grades based on class performance. Do the extra credit he offers, it is easy and you'll need it. When reading the novels, pay attention to the dialogue/quotes, it is important for the exams. As long as you do the work, you'll get an A.
Just show up and listen. DON'T PROCRASTINATE
Professor Baker is a very interesting professor, the class was like an hour & 15 minutes but it flew by with him. If anything is happening and you're lagging behind contact him, he'll try his best to ensure you get the best possible grade. He does take attendance so try to always show up, either way it probably won't be a class you dread going to.
He's awesome. Very funny and understanding. There's extra credit that really helps with those test grades, and he chooses great books to read. Our assignments were very few, like 4, and SUPER easy. We had some class discussions too. Oh, and pop quizzes were extra credit. I learned a lot from him.
SUPER interesting lectures, required reading is pretty good, pop quizzes if too many people are absent. notes are a MUST. Recommend writing down almost everything he says bc its all fair game for the 2 exams, which are open notes. Definitely take him. Totally worth it.
Professor Baker was a super easy class! Everything is due at the end of the semester and if you do all of your work and pass the quizzes you will pretty much pass. Minimal effort required and lectures are pretty interesting. Take him!
This class is super easy. He assigns 7 movie blogs to write (with only the last one to be graded), 1 scene analysis paper, and about 15 quizzes based on the book. All the quizzes are online. He gives you all the work on the first day of class and the due date is the end of the semester. Do your work early and this class is a breeze.
Incredibly insightful and genuinely nice. Assigned 4 one to two page response papers to articles which are A's as long as you do them, offer TONS of extra credit and there's 2 difficult, open notes midterm/final exams. Take great notes, as lectures are more important than the readings for exams. Even if you do bad, he'll pass you if you try
Great professor. Great class to take online. Gives flexibility to turn in assignments. The reading material is wonderful. Take him!!!
Great teacher, His class should be seen as a mind opening study of xenophobia and alterity, he has no hubris whatsoever as a teacher and gives very clear laid back instructions. Besides being hilarious, he comes off as considerate and extremely open minded. I absolutely recommend him as a professor, the work is not difficult, nor is the final exam.
Terrific professor. Relatable, understanding, helpful. Workload realistic for short summer online class: 4 short reflection papers, one final. Weekly online lectures-can watch recorded sessions if unable to attend live. Interesting class material, interesting concepts. Do the work, easy A!
Talks alot. His coursework is kind of a pain in the butt but his requests are reasonable. Just two easy 2-page response papers, a few "quizzes", and 100 annotation posts you come up with throughout the semester (sounds harder than it really is)
I will miss Prof. Bentley Baker. Great professor, solid choice. Incredibly knowledgable on literature, and sincerely wants everyone to see the beauty in it. He wants his students to know that literature is for everyone, not an elitist subject or practice. Few easy take home quizzes, 2 annotations/response papers. Just be honest & try, youll do fine
Professor Baker is a really cool guy, who talks a lot about life and experiences, making literature really interesting. This class is really easy to get an A in. All you have to do is be in class (he takes attendance every class) and do the papers he assigns (like once a month... 3 the whole semester). It is a very easy A.
LOVE him! He's an amazing person with very good morals and inspirational talks. Focuses more on life and the importance of what we can learn from literature to apply to life. Lets you turn in 4 discussion papers anytime in the semester and gives XC. Tests are pretty hard but just take really good notes and you'll be ok, they're open notes.
Hes funny and nice. Total mush. He doesnt lecture, mostly just has conversations with students. Hes super nice and caring. He can be a little annoying because he says As dont matter and theres no due dates. Which if you are a gpa builder this class can stress you out. 3 projects, 4 quizzes, attendance.
The class was interesting, most of it was based on him discussing literature and trying for us to understand that literature is us. There were some quizzes that as long as you read the stories you were fine and two response papers. You can see he is motivated to teach and has a love for literature. Overall, he is a good professor.
Hes a laid-back professor. We took 3 quizzes throughout the whole semester and most of them we did in groups. Other than that, he collects two sets of annotations, which means you need the textbook, and 2 response papers. If you like structure, this class isnt for you. wouldnt bother buying a notebook or anything, you wont use it.
***Textbook- more like two books (they have a collection of stories & poems). Took him for ENG 2012 as well.
Honestly Dan is one of the best professors at FIU. His teaching style encourages you to come to class even though attendance isnt mandatory. His lectures are always interesting and he helps you with the tests & papers. The class isnt hard at all and he gives plenty of extra credit.
He is KING! He makes the class easy to pass because he actually wants you to learn. Very chill, but don't think he's dumb. One of the few professors FIU has that will really inspire you.
I really enjoyed this class. He's a cool guy, and you can tell he really wants his students to succeed. He was willing to help with anything and everything to do with the class if you asked for it. 3 main papers throughout the class, but if you aced the first two, you can skip the third. Offered extra credit annotations to those who needed it.
I wish i could pick more than three tags for Dan. He is such a gem of a professor. FIU is beyond lucky to have him. I took him for two classes (on the same day!!) and it was the best decision ive ever made. I still talk to him months after having taken his class. I think i wrote him a review back then but in case i didnt, heres this one. Take him!!
Easy class. 16 quizzes, answers online, 7 blogs with only the last one graded, and one Scene Analysis essay. You can work at your own pace, I was finished with the class in mid October. Has weekly online meetings to answer questions and provide feedback, was really useful. I wouldn't bother with the book. Overall, liked him online way more than irl
Dan is an amazing instructor and person. He gets on your level and understands the pressures of a college student, and the amount of responsibilities one has during a regular semester. He gives the fewest assignments I've had from any professor here at FIU, oh and you'll get paired up with your classmates for an analysis of a famous director
Dan is an amazing instructor and a unique human being. He understands the pressures of a college student, and the amount of responsibilities one has during a regular semester. He gives the fewest assignments ever I've had in my whole time at FIU, oh and at the start he'll pair you up with your classmates for a fun analysis of a famous director.
He is super knowledgeable about basically everything. His classes rely on the readings and lectures in class, so it's best to show up as much as you can. He can be funny too, which makes the course more engaging. He's really helpful in and out of class and really wants everyone to pass, but don't take him for granted. Really great teacher.
He talked mostly about his personal life and opinions. He asked us who'd we vote for, if we were dating anyone, what gender or religion we identified as, and he even asked the women in class if we would or not get in a car alone with one of the males in the class. I learned way too much about the personal life of my classmates not literature.
Hes pretty laid back and is lenient with most due dates. He tries to help you out towards the end of the semester and is overall a great guy. We had two major papers, if you got above a 90 on both of them youre set for the class. If not, he still gives you assignments and opportunities to get a good grade.
This professor just talks about himself/politics, ask students awkward questions, and play Youtube videos. He even did a voting session in class. I am just glad I did not pay for this class! He is rude too, he randomly kicked a student out of class for no reason at all one day. If you want to learn, don't take him. His class is easy, but boring!
What a considerate guy! Amazingly nice and never rushes through anything. Each class is relaxed atmosphere, full of great learning material. Covers all the classic Lit stuff you always hear about and grading is slack. Way too nice of a grader, cause he truly wants you to like Lit and the class. Nothing negative to say about this guy, just awesome.
He's a total bro. Few papers so you can concentrate on learning, not work. Long lectures, but he presents it in a conversation-like manner so you'll be engaged. He is very friendly and charismatic. You'll be reading about 3 books and some pdf files that can be used in open book midterm and final. Broaches sensitive topics very tastefully.
All I have to say is that this professor is amazing. He wants his students to learn and enjoy his classes. Gives very little HW and all is due the last week of the semester. He's extremely knowledgeable, knows basically everything about everything. His class is definitely one to enjoy, not to suffer in. I recommend him 100%.
Professor Bentley was evident on what he wanted out of his students: If you finish all the discussions and participate in class, it's an easy A. Take into account this was a remote learning course, so maybe in-person, things could be different.
Very simple class. You can show up to listen to discussions about literature, but it's not necessary. Just make sure to turn in everything assigned, and you're fine. I do recommend showing up if you like discussing what you read and different perspectives.
Very kind and supportive, also very understanding person. Sets you up to succeed, assignments are not difficult.
this professor is very opinionated. i wrote a paper that he didn't agree with and he gave me a low score. it was an online class and he made attendance mandatory.
when writing a paper, his directions are not clear. when he gives feedback on papers he does not tell you what you did wrong. I'm pretty sure he doesn't read the whole thing because usually only marks the first page, which is frustrating because you a lot of work into it
Lectures felt like a very boring, unprepared stream of consciousness, but he was somehow following the syllabus? Forcing myself to sit thru them and actively listen never helped with any of my problems. Midterm and Final were 66% of the grade and expectations for them were very, VERY vague. Questions are also worded very weirdly.
EASIEST CLASS EVER!!!!!! As long as you submit work, you will get a 100%. Absolute gem of a professor, with insane amounts of extra credit that truly make it impossible to not get an A+ if you submit anything. Grade composed of annotation posts, discussion, reflection paper and participation (get credit by watching zoom meetings or joining zoom).
This professor is weird, to say the least. His lectures are unorganized and what seems like random ramblings are actually on the midterm and final, which are both very difficult because he never really teaches the material on them, but as long as you read the books you should at least be okay. That being said, he does offer a LOT of extra credit
Have to read all the novels and watch the required movie and all his lectures or you won't pass the tests. Would be 4 stars because I did like the class except he had video lectures required every week for a fully online class and he made a lot of rude comments about the students who couldn't join zoom lectures live at 9pm every single Tuesday.
Uses LockDown Browser for Midterm and Final..... Good luck trying to deal with that. Lectures are ok, but the textbook is needed and is a hassle to find online (at least for a digital one).
I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. The exams are difficult but if you pay attention to the lectures and do all the readings you'll be fine if you take really good notes and do all the extra credit.
This is my 2nd time taking Dan and he's extremely knowledgeable about any topic. His lectures are engaging and the textbook is good too (which are all on the quizzes). His final exam and essay are interchangeable but he is very flexible on whatever topic you want to write. I would recommend anyone to take him at least once if you're taking English.
Prof has everything due towards the end of the semester, so that gives a lot of flexibility. Prof grades everything extremely leniently. 5 quizzes are worth 75% of the total grade and they can all be done within 1 hour. The rest of the assignments can be done within a few hours. If you wanted to, you can speed run this course in 1 week.
There are very little rules to this class. It's one of the easiest classes I've taken and I really enjoyed taking this class. Zoom meetings are at 9pm but they are helpful if you are confused about discussions or annotations. It's a very easy class if you but the effort in
Great Teacher! He actually wants his students to learn and enjoy what they are doing. Lots of room for extra credit and freedom with what you want to write about. His zoom lectures are very helpful and the material is easy to grasp.
Although his canvas is unorganized, if you do all the required assignments on the rubric you will pass. I would recommend attending the Zoom meetings as he goes through the material for the assignment. All assignments are due at the end of the term. Very chill prof.
This guy is awesome
This professor provided fun writing assignments. They were all easy to do and it allows us to be open minded on what we believe. There will be weekly zoom meetings to talk about readings. Other than that, I would take him again because not only did he provide useful comments but also because you will learn.
This class was pretty easy, there was a couple of graded quizzes with multiple attempts. As for assignments it was about six-written assignments. All assignments were due by the end of the quarter, so it was very lenient. I did not mind this class and found it pretty easy.
Assignments are really easy and the only due date is the end of the term, so you have the whole semester to work on everything. He's technologically impaired - I had some difficulties accessing readings, lectures, etc. and didn't get much help from him; he sometimes didn't respond to emails. Very sweet though! Provided thoughtful feedback.
Great class, prof is a very personable guy and very easy grader. I just think he believes himself to be much smarter than he is.
Easy, flexible class with lenient grading. Use unstuck ai along with free textbook for exam prep. Attend Zoom sessions for extra guidance. Overall, a straightforward course to earn a great grade.
Bentley-Baker is full of knowledge and stories that fill your wildest dreams. He dated the daughter of a Central American dictator and went to Lenny Bruce's funeral. His actual facilitating shows love for the material and on what each student has learned. You will have papers, and please, do the readings! He is slow at responding and tech however.
He does NOT ANSWER e-mails and it cost me my grade. Completely inaccessible outside of class and gives absolutely no feedback. I will say, all work is due at the end of the semester and it isn't difficult. His utter lack of communication is just frustrating!! I suspect he's not every good with technology.
He's a chill teacher and he's not joking when he says this will be your easiest class. Everything besides the exams is due at the end of the semester. His exams are online and not proctored. I'd say just takes notes during group presentations cuz you need to write about each of their topics and your opinions.
Took him Fall 2024. Professor Baker is a great man and full of character. He expects everyone to be on top of the readings, as there will be a midterm and a final. They're proctored, so please don't cheat and fool around. Other than that, it's an easy class, gives plenty of extra credit, and is very laid back on assignments. Take him! Mad respect!
He is a great person and clearly likes to teach. His lectures are engaging and easy to follow. His assignments are easy but his guidelines are a little difficult to understand because he doesn't give much specifics. Great person, easy class. He is very understanding. If you need the credit I recommend this course!
He has zero guidelines or rubrics on his essays, his lectures are useless. He grades based on vibes and if he has it out for you he will make your life impossible. He claimed that I was complaining about my grade when he had reviewed my essay TWICE and only when it came time to grade it did he remove points. He always needs to be right.
He is not clear about the rubric for the papers and gives unhelpful feedback. He goes into frequent tangents that have nothing to do with the subject matter, making his lectures completely useless. I do not recommend this professor for your sake of mind. *I am not a bad writer and enjoy writing but I still was frustrated with him.
