Dr. Chiappe is my favorite teacher, for two reasons: 1. He teaches clearly and is very organized. His course content is generally interesting, especially in 346. He is challenging, intelligent, and one of the best professors in the psych dept. 2. He is HOT! It's easy to pay attention (or look it) in class - but I often catch myself smirking at naughty thoughts. Beware! ;-)

The structure of his lectures is easy to follow. He gives you a lot of info and expects a lot of understanding and clear writing. He can be a little grouchy and hard to talk to. Just to clarify an earlier comment: He's Peruvian, among other things; I don't know where people get this Persian stuff.

Dr. Chiappe is a good lecturer, and the exam material is straight from the lectures and 10% from the book(he makes this clear at the start). You need to read in order to get good grades on the test! Test - mostly based on reading and some lecture. Homework and discussion posts - easy points. Paper - simple as well. He gives a detailed syllabus and graded VERY quickly. Information is quite interesting, but I found that the test was very specific so make sure to write notes while reading!

Happiness was interesting but BE READY to read, a lot! 3 non-cumulative exams that are very specific (I would take notes on ALL readings), 1 term paper, 5 homework assignments, & 18 discussion posts. Homework & discussions are really easy points. Don't underestimate his exams & term paper, though. Responds to emails quickly & grades very quickly!

Online class. His lecture videos were kind of dry and hard to pay attention too. Grades really fast and gives good feedback. Need to keep up with A LOT of reading in order to do well on exams- Take notes! 5 HW assignments, 3 exams, 1 term paper. He seems passionate about the subject, which is something I respected.

PSY 337 class is always online, no meeting and very little interaction. He posts lecture slides that emphasize studies, especially for the exams. Discussion boards have no rubric/prompt and three posts and three replies are due by the day of the tests. One paper, readings, some supplemental videos and easy assignments, fair and easy grader.

Took this course my last semester of CSULB but Im glad I did because I learned a lot even though the course was challenging. If you want to pass this course you must do good on exams and that means doing the reading which requires time, watching lectures, and discussion. Be prepared for lots of work but you will learn a lot. Loved this course!!

I thought it was gonna be an easy A tbh, but it was really hard. I'm not sure if it was because I am not used to asynchronous classes but this one was hard to keep up with. The homework and discussions are easy but the tests are hard and he only gives you 1 hour to do them. I don't do well under time pressures, so do the readings :(

This class was so challenging. I did not enjoy evolutionary psych at all. Exams alone count for 75% of your grade and they are so extremely difficult. He does not give you a study guide and the exams are essentially based on very specific aspects from the reading that you simply cant memorize. You also have a very short exam window too. It's hard!

Took Psychology of happiness over the summer and honestly it was a fun class. Dan is very straight forward, lectures were all prerecorded, you have to do discussion posts every week and there is a test about every other week. If you put in the work you can pass this class just make sure to read and stay on top of the small assignments.

If you depend on study guides to do well for any exams - you can forget it in this class!!! Instead of giving study guides for his tests he has Test Preparation that is useless as it has no information about the test. It just tells you to read everything for the tests. You have to study all the information - save the headache and take someone else!

What I hated about this class was that the materials were the same thing over and over again each chapter. I lost interest after a month as the topics were common sense, but they were explained so detailed that it was tiring to read. Going in-depth about happiness was not that exciting and I wished I would have taken a more interesting topic.

He is a great professor. The class is solely online so the lectures are available to watch whenever you want, and discussion posts are required but very simple and straightforward. You do need to do to the reading to understand the exams because it's 50/50 lecture and reading. Overall, simple and interesting class.

CSULB needs another professor to teach this class so students have choices. Psychology of happiness will stress you out. This professor needs to apply some of the course materials to his life because he does not seem happy. Quick grading and quick email response but not friendly. Don't take this class if you have a job or 4 courses. Not recommend.

He tries to make easy class difficult. Should be a fun class instead you will focus on remembering many studies in detail to back up the theories. Tests are from everything in the two books, the videos, and the readings on BB. First test not difficult, I regretted didn't drop this class. Had hard classes before but this one not a good experience.

Took this prof for both PSY346 & PSY337, would take again if I could. He makes a very clear & organized syllabus with very straightforward instructions, grades immediately w/ feedback and responds to emails quickly as well; super dependable structure which isn't common. If you just read the material and don't try to cut corners you'll get an easy A

Easy assignments and discussions. BUT THE TESTS nahh. They were so hard, barely enough time to finish the tests. 50 questions with 60 minutes to complete it. Offered like 1 extra credit assignment. If you email him about anything he'll just tell you to read the instructions again. Can't find anything on quizlet. 3 tests, one paper. Tests were hard.

Honestly, this was a decent class. The material was interesting and he had a lot of resources to make this an easy passing class. He offers weekly chapter quizzes (not mandatory) , engaging lecture slides, and two weeks to finish your discussion post. If you have a rigorous schedule then maybe reconsider but if you can take him do it. i got an A!

Prof. Chiappe's class was very enjoyable to me! Expectations seem intimidating but very straightforward-it's very possible to pass with an A as long as you followed them. The weekly modules were very manageable and discussions for them were biweekly. Really interesting HW assignments (5) that actually make you apply what you learned, which I like.

You have 2 weeks do to the discussion posts. 3 multiple choice tests that are super easy, everything from the study guide. 4 little assignments (1-2 pages) with clear instructions. easiest and most simple psych class I have taken, great professor. you learn things that can help you live a happier life.

The only reason I give him a 3 is bc his exams were difficult to pass. you NEED to do the study guide to a T if you want a B or above bc the questions are hand-written. There is 1 discussion post per week and around 4-5 written assignments. Not awful & he's nice but not worth stress if you arent wantin to put in much work for a asynchronous class.

Looking to fail a class and be at risk for not graduating? Then this is the class to take! Jk, but tests are timed so quickly you barely have the time to look at them. Really must stud. Discussion posts and assignments are graded easily, but honestly you WILL still struggle because those tests are terrible even when I did study. Good luck!

His online evolutionary class can be difficult. A lot of reading, but he gives you a study guide, and if you do it thoroughly you should do well in class. The assignments aren't that hard, 4 in total with a discussion post and response every 2 weeks. He's also very generous with extra credit, I suggest you do them. Hard class, but very doable.

If you are a BMAC student: DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He has a no late work policy stated in the syllabus, and he emphasizes that BMAC accommodations will not be considered (so no extended time on tests). His class is mainly reading, and a lot of the curriculum is from outside readings and videos (lack of lecture video time).

Nice enough professor, however my biggest issue is the provided study guides. There is a lot of material to go over between tests (which are a huge portion of your grade) but the study guides are completely useless. He will ask questions that aren't on them at all. Be prepared to read and remember EVERYTHING in every lecture and chapter.
