He's not that great. Doesn't seem to know how to answer questions very well. Kind of a pushover.
worst teachers ever...he does not show you your grade, so you dont have a clue what it is. his test do not progress from the chapter the questions are all over. doesnt seem to care for the students....dont take him
He is a wreck. He is very unprepared, definitely not confident and very unclear. He doesn't return work to the students in a timely manner and when he says he will bring something, he most always forgets. He made it very difficult to learn a relatively easy subject. His tests were not consitent, with the book or each other.I had to teach myself! :[
This guy must have improved because I am getting this stuff. His lectures are easy to follow, the labs are cake, the HW is online and generally easy, he answers any questions, the quizes are done in groups, you can use a "cheat sheet" on the test and he is a nice guy. You have to be there to get all the info, but show up and you'll do fine.
I think Mr. Curtis is a good math teacher. I'm not sure what all the poor comments are from the Math 160 classes, but he has been wonderful in Math 110. He has been very fair with his grading as well.
Dan Curtis is good at math. Course is organized so that you know what is expected to achieve high scores. I took the short term 8 week course with Dan. If I have the opportunity to take a course with him again, I will!
i dont know why or what those students from 160 are whining about, but this teacher is the greates math teacher ive ever taken from high school to college. To tell you the Truth, I HATE MATH!!, but this teacher here is willing to help and you will surely understand his teachings. If you hate math, you will start loving it by attending his class!!!
i love Mr. Curtis!! he is an amazing teacher and teaches everything you need to know in ways that it is very understandable. i really enjoy this class and he does everything in his power to help you pass. lets you use notes on quizzes and goes over the home work every class. i would reccommend him to anyone who has a hard time with math, hes great!
Mr. Curtis is going to let you know exactly what is expected of you to pass his class and his lectures are very easy to understand. If you can not understand a problem he will explain it again without make you feel dumb.
I love CURTIS! :) He was always willing to take the extra time to help explain things to you. He is a very laid back guy. Tests are fairly smiple and there is a chance to make up the missed problems so you get all your points. Thumbs up!
Mr. Curtis is the best! I think he was very organized and always willing to stay after hours to help. His tests were easy and the questions were straight from his lectures. Great instructor.
Mr. Curtis is a fantastic instructor. He doesn?t just prove theorem?s and expect you to learn from the book. He breaks sections down in easy to understand pieces by doing examples and helping the students make the connections. Lets you use your homework for quizzes and allows a note card for exams. Very approachable and always willing to help.
Great teacher! Highly recommend!
Math isn't my strongest subject but Mr. Curtis explained everything so well that even I could understand it. Great teacher... and soooooo cute. I wish i had him for more classes...
Dan did a good job in clarifying some of the more abstract ideas that linear algebra deals with. He is more than willing to help if need be, and goes out of his way to make sure students understand what he teaches. Drops lowest quiz, half sheet notes on tests, collects HW. Do the HW, ask for clarification when necessary and you'll prolly get an A.
The best prof i have ever had. takes time to teach all the material and makes sure everything is understood. He is simply amazing
He is nice, but if you make sure you know how to do the homework problems you will get As on the test.
He is nice teahcer. If you do the homework, you will be easy to get an A in his exams. He also has projects which are really hard. In fact, he will help you in those projects if you ask him.
Given that I took this class 3 times, with a prep in hs I thought Dan was an excellent teacher. He explained the topics well and was always willing to go through the problems.Very helpful during exams as well.As long as you take notes, and do the hw you will pass the exams.Nobody likes STATS but he would be the one I reccommend to take the class with.
Great teacher. Crystal clear teaching. Cares about students. Will help you. Goes very fast. MUST do homework to pass class. Hard, but teacher makes it worth it.
very patient and thourough! awesome professor
I recently took Mr. Curtis for Math 90 in Fall 2010 Semester. I haven't been in school for a long time, but I know he's an excellent teacher. Very patient, always willing to answer questions NO MATTER WHAT, and you never feel stupid for asking. He has a sense of humor and he really seems to care about the students. GREAT TEACHER!!!
He is extremely perfect instructor. I would really recommend him to take guys.
I love him. He is so nice. He is helpful + excellent.
GREAT MATH TEACHER. CLEAR AND ON POINT AND DOES NOT MIND THE QUESTIONS. NEVER RUDE OR ARROGANT. DO THE HOMEWORK AND UTILIZE STUDY GUIDE YOU ARE GOOD TO GO. I WISH HE TEACHES ALL MATH CLASSES, I'D TAKE HIS CLASS ALWAYS.
He made me like math, now solving problems for me just as easy as piece of cake. never hesitate taking his classes!
I am not good at math and have a poor algebra background but I just did my homework and was attentive in class and got all B's on my exams! This is a change from my C average from prior math classes. Great teacher. Super easy to understand. Only negative is he takes way too long to grade quizzes and exams. HW is graded the same day though. :)
he is so boring. He does not teach that well but his exams are easy
He is awesome! he is a really nice guy! you can talk to him you can ask him questions.. he will help the class in every possible way he can, questions are clear and easy. the way he grades is fare. overall i wish i can take all math classes with him! am an A student btw
Very cool teacher. I HATE math and am very terrible at it, but he has made it understandable for me. By far, the best math teacher I've ever had.
EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR.I kinda struggled in calc 1, yet in calc 2 i maintained a 96-93% throughout the semester, because he teaches very well. He chooses GREAT examples for lecture. no quizes, only 4 exams including the final which was kinda scary but f you do the homework its impossible not to learn, the best math teacher at cuyamaca in my opinion.
Proff. Curtis is really good. Math 284 is very boring, but he makes the material interesting and tries to help you remember it. I really like his class but never liked the material. So don't blame Proff. Curtis if you feel bored, it is just the stupid linear algebra.
Mr. Curtis is an excellent teacher. He is always willing to answer any questions, and stay after to help if need be. No question is a dumb question to him. He truly cares about the success of his students. I highly suggest you take his class.
he is awesome! took this with manchester at gross but failed. i thiught manchester was awesome but this man is awesome x10. really ez to understand.explains everything. not tideous like other professors. tests are pretty straight forward and never any surprises. he may be a bit boring but u will pass. i wish i took him 1st time around.
Easiest math class I have ever taken and I am horrible in math. He's a great teacher, he is very patient and laid back as well. I wish he taught Math 160.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER! Seriously, I've hated math my whole life - absolutely detested it - but Dan is fantastic and explains things so clearly that even a mathematical moron like myself can grasp the concepts. He's not going to dumb down the class for you - it's hard and fast paced - but he explains things extremely well!
Best math professor I've ever had. I struggled to get a B in 180, and thanks to Curtis, I got an A in 280. If you're serious, then attendance and homework are mandatory. He provides practice exams, and test questions come from lecture. Very straight forward. Highly recommended.
Best math instructor for calculus 2! Makes things very clear and he never stresses people out! I've never seen a math prof. with so much patience. He'll make you understand without trying very hard. Math 180 lecture gave me headaches, but math 280 was the best math class I've ever took thanks to Curtis :) it's a bummer he does not teach 281 :(
If you miss class you'll miss his lectures which do a good job summing up the sections. Homework is graded and mandatory if you want an A. The class is conceptual which some people don't mind but sometimes I struggle with. Tests are relatively easy
I admit that I struggled a bit in this class because math is not my strong area but his lectures/worksheets are helpful and going to additional tutoring in the STEM center is very helpful. He is a laid back guy and is there to help you.
One of the best math professors I've in my life. I hated Calc I but loved Calc II. You must attend all lectures and take notes in order to succeed. HW is really easy. Exams and Final were very straight forward 0 surprises all semester. If you put enoguh time an A is guaranteed. Only thing I hated about him is that he takes forever to grade thigs,
Awesome teacher very easy homework and tests. Only the final required some time to be prepared but if you pay attention in class and take notes there's no way you won't get an A. Highly recommend.
Dan is awesome. I was marginally competent at arithmetic and horrible at algebra. He is just so clear and concise. You'll know exactly what to expect. I took him last summer and I'm so glad he will teach one other class I need in the fall. I'll be going to Cuyamaca just for this one teacher.
He's a mellow guy. Not a whole lot of character, but he's really easy-going. Hw is the hardest part of the class just because it's online so you need to input it correctly. hw questions are harder than the test questions so you go into the tests thinking its a piece of cake! and you can correct you tests for credit. take him :)
Very great teacher! He makes very minimal mistakes, makes sure he covers every situation, and gives plenty of examples. He gives practice tests, homework is harder than the tests, and he lets you do test corrections. I took this class over the summer and got 98% because he's THAT good. Plus, he's nice, down to earth, and relaxed.
Very clear explanations, shows lots of examples, answers any questions. Skipping his class is the worst thing you can do, he makes the material simple. I took this class over the summer and didn't stress out at all. Class is fairly easy to pass, only concern is it may not be challenging enough to prepare for calc 2.
He's AWESOME!!! I have taken two classes with him so far, Math 180 & 280, and I haven't seen any difficulty in his classes. If you pay attention to his lectures, do the homework online, and do the practice exam then you'll definitely pass with a big A :D. Totally recommend him.
He's the best math teacher I've had! Super clear in his lectures which are only like 30 minutes of class . Tests are easy if you pay attention in class. I have no complaints whats so ever.
he is not easy. Period
I have taken with Mr. Curtis Math 180 and now Math 280 and he is the best professor ever . His lectures are short and motivated. very helpful. his exams are little little hard but everything is been explained and he answers all questions. I love his lectures.
This class was really easy. If you show up te majority of the time and pay attention to the lectures theres no reason you shouldn't pass the class.
Look, everyone loves Dan Curtis. He is an excellent lecturer, slows down to his slowest pupil's speed, puts off tests if he feels the class isn't read, responds to emails, the list goes on. The ONLY thing I was worried about was that we may not have gotten through enough material for me to be ready for the next math course. We'll see.
Curtis is one of the best math instructors I've recently encountered. He takes the time to make sure the whole class is following. He always pauses and asks the class if they're ready to move forward. Very considerate, making sure we're comfortable with the subject matter before slamming us with exams. My only issue is he takes 4evr with grades.
Look, Dan is an amazing teacher. Show up, participate, but DONT BE AFRAID TO SAY YOU DONT GET IT. If it doesn't click, make sure you tell him. I don't like math, he actually made it fun. FUN! (coming from a person who failed Math 110 , 3 times!) Bad part tho: If you don't get it, you'll struggle. My Advice: Don't leave class unless you get it!!!!
Curtis is incredible. Truly one of the best mat teachers there is! The calc 2 class consists of 3 exams worth 15% each (cheat sheet provided every test), 3 projects worth 15% , homework worth 10% (make sure to get a 95% or above he'll give you 100%) , and a final worth 30%. Listen to lecture DO your homework and go to tutoring. It'll be an easy A.
Really good teacher, take him you won't regret it. Really clear, helpful and humble. I can't say anything negative about him or his class, I wish that he would teach statistics.
Dude, Dan the man rocks. I've taken him for three different math classes, and he covers everything, his lectures flow right along, makes the least amount of mistakes I've ever seen a math teacher make, and he gives practice tests and does test corrections. Could you seriously ask for anything more?
Great teacher... Enough said. Never has a math teacher that was just so great... Take him, listen, do the homework, do the practice exams, understand what he is teaching... And you will get an A... He doesn't trick you and he explains everything. Ask questions if you don't understand, but you will because: Its Dan Curtis... No need for a book...
Curtis is by far the best professor I've taken, he definitely meets you half way, if you put in the effort you are guaranteed to pass. The only students who don't pass are the ones who do not take the class seriously. His grading is very fair, if he sees you have a general understanding of most the subject, you will earn most the points.
Dan is a great math teacher, very helpful, I took 180"Calc-I" with him at summer course which was a concentrated course, but Dan made it easy. He gave us three tests besides the final test, he allowed us to correct our test mistake and gave us a point for each corrected question. His tests are super easy. I got A for all the four tests.
Dan is a really good professor. He tries to make the materials easy to understand. The exams are not identical to the practice exam but similar format. He also gives you cheat sheet , so you don't have to memorize any thing . I took him for both 180 and 280 and got a A. I highly recommend taking him. Do your HW you will be fine for the exam.
Very helpful and patient professor. If you don't get something and tell him so, he's not going to the next step without you. Also, one of those professors that doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions... even the ones you know are stupid.
You need the textbook for the homework but lectures should cover the material pretty well. Provides handouts for the lectures but diverges from the examples at times. I went to every class and didn't need to study beyond homework. YMMV.
pretty hard for a 100 level class tests are hard. He does free response AND multiple choice so watch out.
He is a good teacher, He will help you out if you need any help. Make sure you do well on exams and homework and you will have an A. Don't worry about all these poor reviews from 180. 180 is not an easy class anyway! HE IS A COOL TEACHER!!
Curtis is a fair professor. What little lecture time we have tends to be eaten up by homework questions, which can be a bummer. Homework consists of two parts, one online and the other written, from the book. The written portion is usually due on exam days. Overall, as long as you read the book and memorize the theorems you should be fine.
Professor Curtis was a real pleasure to have as a teacher. He was very respectful and kind when it came to receiving help in anything a student was struggling in. At first he may appear little cold or distant but he truly is an attentive, genuine, and good instructor who is very much in tune of his students progress. I would take his class again
One of the best. He makes calculus easy. I really enjoyed his class. After every class, I walked out confident that I had learn brand new material in the class. He is teaching and never trick you. NUMBER ONE. Thank you Mr. Curtis
Don't expect a stand and deliver experience, but he makes an abstract math subject as relevant as possible. His lectures and exam expectations are clear and organized (similar to practice exams.) I won't say it's an easy A, but he does test corrections and the hardest problems you'll face will be from the written homework, not the tests.
Mr. Curtis has a reputation for being one of the best math teachers in the department, and for good reason. His lectures truly drove home the topic, and his grading policies are set to allow the student to succeed. Would highly recommend you take him at every opportunity!
He is a great teacher, but if you don't go to class you will not pass. He is fair in grading sometimes he give partial credit if you get part of the problem right. He gives you a practice exam ahead of time he goes over it and the test is almost the same. I am sure you will pass if you never skip class and you will learn.
Professor Curtis gives extremely good lectures. He incorporates them with group activities that are very effective in the learning process. His lectures compliment the online reading and homework that need to be done for the class. His teaching process helps in being successful with quizzes and tests.
Mr. Curtis was a great teacher, all you have to do is talk to him and he always helps with any matters. At the time when I was taking his class, I couldn't make it to all the classes, but he understood and still allowed me to come to class. He gives great feedback and always shows the class how to do a problem that's hard. But prepare for groups.
This is the best professor I've ever had. He doesn't make you buy a text book because his lectures are so crystal clear you won't need one. It's not very often you find a professor that can explain the subject better than the text book but he is a chill guy who makes the class fun by having group interaction.
Professor Curtis is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He clearly understood what students went through, and he had very explicit instructions to do well in his class. I never had any problem doing his homework, and surely his exams match the level of his teaching. If you would like to receive an A in math 280, then I highly recommend
Would have never got an A in 280 if it wasnt for Dan, god bless this man. (Failed it perviously semester). Allows cheat sheets.
Such a smart and amazing teacher. Knows how to explain and help you perform well in exams. Definitely taking him for future math classes! Wouldn't take anyone else!
By far the best teacher out there for Calc 2. Take him over anyone else if you can.
I took this course over the summer and it's a bit of work, but doesn't feel like a 5-unit class. His lectures are very thorough and is willing to help when you have questions. Expect anything on the exams.
Best Professor Ever! He makes the lectures easy to understand and gives plenty of time to finish the online HW. Very lenient and wants his students to succeed. The HW, exams, and final are weighted about the same, which I like so youre not so focused on only HW only exams or only the final. Allows 1 cheat sheet front and back on Final only!
(57% Exams) (12% HW) (31% FInal) Exams have T/F and one problem that is tricky to separate the A's from the B's. Lectures are decently clear and he moves at a pretty fast pace. Hw is very easy and the exams are based on that and notes. He is the most organized prof I've had with lecture notes and no hiccups in his lectures.
Best Professor ever! Very clear in the way he explains things. He takes time to go over problems you're having trouble with. The grading was a combo between online work and some paper turn in work. He has 4 or 5 exams that are straight forward with what he teaches and the online exams. If you complete online stuff, you'll be good to go!
He is awesome. I took math with another professor and they were no help. He genuinely cares about his students. If you don't get it he will go over examples until you do. I never liked math and have never been good but he made it easy to understand and fun. If you have ever struggled with math I highly recommend him! You will love him and pass !
Professor Curtis is amazing! I have taken multiple of his math classes and he is the very best! Show up every day, write down everything during lecture, and show up to his office hours if necessary and you will succeed. He truly cares about his students and he loves math!
Curtis is most definitely the best math teacher at Cuyamaca. Lectures are straight to the point. He won't put a problem in an exam that he hasn't gone through in a lecture. During the lecture he goes through the section then does practice problems. If anyone has a question, he will go through it again. Partial credit on exam problems. Easy grader.
Really nice and understanding.
I took prof. Curtis for the summer during quarantine; Homework was like 40% of the grade, which is AMAZING for a calculus teacher. He also graded leniently and gave us plenty of time and help if we ever had any problem. The most caring Math teacher I've met.
Professor Curtis does not only provide a clear and simplistic explanation of the lecture, but he is also understanding and very helpful when it comes to asking questions about the homework. If you are someone who struggles with math, don't even hesitate to take a class with him. You will find yourself loving math at the end of the semester.
I loved him! This professor makes sure that everyone understands the lecture and is always open to questions. He is a sympathetic and charismatic man. He wants you to understand the subject instead of worrying about your grade. He offers lots of examples. There is homework for every topic. Assignments are worth more than the final exam, so do them.
Dan Curtis is one of my favorite math professors ever. I truly think he's one of the best in the business. The only complaint I have is that the lectures aren't always very well structured, however this sometimes contributes to the learning if that makes sense.
I really liked the way he taught classes, they followed a simple path and made even the most complicated subjects appear simple and understandable. I'm a high school student and could only attend part of the lectures so that caused extra confusion for me. Make sure your schedule works with this class.
He is amazing. Very lenient and will make sure to answer all the questions you have.
best math teacher and recommend him for everyone that has the chance to take him. I am definitely taking him again next semester for calc 2, as he loves to helps his students and cares for their success in math rather than their grades. Simply pay attention in his class and do your work, and math is suddenly ten times easier.
Mr. Curtis is a solid choice. He knows the material, and explains it well. He will answer any questions you have in class, and will do any homework problems you need help on. All exams (even the final) are take-home and you have 1 week to do 'em. Homework is 40% of the grade. My one small complaint is that he's a little too professional.
Professor Curtis is a great option. I would highly recommend taking him even for calc one. If youre a student that struggles with exams, his are take home and you will have plenty of time to do them. He gives you a week. His grading scale wasnt followed as the syllabus said because it actually was HW 63%, exams 1-3 9%, and final was 10%.
Great teacher! Explains things very well. Never makes you feel incompetent. Takes as many questions as you haveif too many he will see you after class with a smile on his face. He changed the idea of math for me. Love this teacher!
This was by far the best online experience I've had with a professor. He teaches statistics so clearly and simply that it has actually been enjoyable (instead of dreadful). He's tech savvy, knows how to use zoom quickly and efficiently, and does not require cameras to be turned on. He is one of the most lenient professors I've ever had.
HE IS TRULY AND UTTERLY THE BEST! He's honestly the best math professor I have ever had in college. I had to retake calculus and with him, it was so much easier, he is super nice and lenient. Do yourself a favor and take him :)
one of the best math professors out there. I took calc 1 with Professor Curtis last semester and decided to take calc 2 with him as well. No regrets. Very lenient and truly cares about his students learning. He also does the practice tests a few days before the exam and I always found them helpful.
I had such a great experience with this professor! He explains everything so unbelievably well and has so many hours dedicated to tutoring. I was nervous to take this class because math is not my strongest subject, but I had a great experience and highly recommend this professor he's so good!
Seriously the best math teacher. Great lectures that explain the concepts very well. Test are not difficult and homework is pretty easy. As long as you pay attention to the lectures you should have no problem with this class
Never in my life had I had a math professor explain everything so well! What I love about him the most is that he overexplains everything so much that the concepts become very simple. The homework is also very manageable and there's not too much. I 100% RECOMMEND HIM, especially if you're not that good in math.
Professor Curtis' lectures are very simple and straightforward. He simplifies concepts down to the essentials, and cares more about your understanding of calculus than your algebraic mechanical skills. Exams problems are very similar to examples done in lecture as well as the practice exam. You also get a cheat sheet for each exam!
I thought he did an awesome job the whole semester. His teaching method was dialed and streamline but he had no problem stopping to help out those with questions. He was lenient on deadlines as long as you communicated with him and showed that you cared. Great professor and I will be taking Calc 2 with him as well.
Curtis is a straightforward guy. His lectures are to-the-point (often to the point of mundanity,) but he has a very open mind with his academic practices. Exams are purposefully easier than homework, and almost directly reflect the practice exams. Due dates are flexible. Projects can be done in groups and are pretty fun.
Daniel Curtis was the perfect professor for me. Kind, professional, and very clear about how the class works. Extremely generous grading, the course is easy if you just try a little bit. He's not picky on simplifying either, which is very nice. Homework problems were a little annoying, that's my only problem with the class.
Dan is so awesome. His teaching style is amazing. I have zero interest or talent in calculus but he still managed to break the subject matter down into lectures that were easy to understand and follow. If you pay attention and put in the effort, you can get an A in the class even if you're an average student like me.
Your grade is based more off the online HW, which does take time to complete so make sure you give yourself time. Very clear on what we needed to know for quizzes/final. There are no exams, just one final, but even that was straight to the point. Very nice guy & is willing to help and further explain. 10/10 professor
dan is an amazing professor, who is caring and understanding. take this teacher if u have the opportunity. can be an easy A if u have at least more than 1 brain cell.
Professor Curtis is a great math teacher - very clear, lenient, and dedicated to helping students succeed. The homework can be time-consuming, but using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook makes it manageable. Overall, a solid class that's worth taking.
best calc professor to take. lectures were so helpful. was nervous to take calc but he really made it enjoyable. Extremely kind-hearted individual. I definitely recommend going to lectures if you're not really good at calc, he basically gives you the practice problems for the final and tells you what material to study. lots of online homework tho!
I took calc 1 online. He never bothers you, he just sends a reminder every monday of whats due/when and thats it. His lectures are just videos from youtube, he grades with zero feedback unless its a TA, the only good thing is assignments are graded right away. Not a bad class, just dont expect to hear from him at all. Easy class, got a A+
