Very funny and down to earth. incredibly interesting material. Answers questions well and is not afraid of criticism or discussion.
Lecture was good, but he never answered e-mails, never gave feedback on workd, and was totally unavailable. yuck. ta was pretty useless too.
He is incredibly kind-hearted and likeable. Very laid back and patient, and is truly engrossed in what he is teaching.
Makes class enjoyable, funny stories, easy to understand. Genuinely cares about feedback from students, holds students accountable for comments and actions (will follow up on a comment until it is completely understood or resolved), wants students' opinions. Great prof!
So sweet, great teaching style. Answers a few too many questions in class: people at the back feel like he's holding a private conversation, but who can fault him for being too nice? He really cares about what the students think about his course too. Great class, great prof!!
Definitely the best lecturer at UofT. His classes were never boring and the video he showed in the last lecture was really eye-opening. Only complaint is the hard tests that he's already known for. But I would still take his class again anyways.
Wonderful lecturer but sometimes speaks too fast. Wonderful teaching aids as well, such as the lecture slides.
Love him! I actually look forward to his lectures - you can tell he genuinely cares about the material, and he has a good time teaching it.

worst prof of my first year by far... hated his class. he can't teach and he doesn't even know what he is teaching besides his specific social psych background... can't pronounce "adenosine", C'moN!
a clear and lively young professor, but his classes are boring because he spends way too much time taking comments from the class, which does not work in convocation hall. I end up falling asleep while he indulges some whispering first year student in the front few rows. then he ends up running out of time. we are behind already by one lecture.
Awsome prof! Very lively and presents the material in an interesting manner.
Amazing prof, perhaps the best lecturer I've had. His exams are quite hard, and you do need to study ALOT to get a half decent mark. Overall he puts conistent enthusiasm into his lectures and you get tell he loves what he's doing, seems like a sweet guy too.
The prof is funny. However the tests are hard because there isn't enough time to go over all the material in class.
absolutely loved his course, very good presentation skills that shows good use of pauses and humour. learned many things about my self/others etc.. best course ever. lookin forward for more.
He is the worst prof i had, omfg, he is horrable. He is a new prof, he test you mainly on the text book, almost never the lectures. thh stuff in the book is pretty straight foward you don't even need him to explain, plus he does a horrable job at it. i mean what is the point of going to lecture if he is just going to test you on the book?
I really enjoyed his lectures. I feel he was the right fit for the course. He showed great passion for the field and I woud recommend this course..... WHAT YOU PUT IN IS WHAT YOU GET OUT......!!!
I learned a lot in this course. The material is very interesting. However, I would say that the lectures were pointless. As long as you study the textbook thoroughly, you're guaranteed a good mark. Tests were difficult as they focused a lot on details but since it's an intro psych class, it's bound to be difficult to cut down on # of students.
inspiring
I loved Dolderman's class! He made lectures fun and interesting, and in my three years at U of T, he's one of the best professors I've ever had. His exams were fair, and even though he tested a lot of things from the textbook, he warned us about that beforehand. I really recommend taking PSY100 with him.
This prof is a mixed bag. He is an enjoyable lecturer. I didn't always agree with his conclusions and his choice of material, but that is not his fault and is more of a department decision. I thought the emphasis on biology was too much, and he entirely skipped over Humanism and the neo-Freudians. Not as enjoyable a course as I hoped but Prof is OK
A very enjoyable lecturer who obviously loves his audience. His exams are confounding though, and if you are used to memorizing inconsequential details never mentioned in class as opposed to concepts, then this class is for you.
I was just looking @ the 07-08 timetable, saw Dolderman's name, & was like, 'I HAVE to go to this website & say good things.' Seriously, he's amazing. I'm majoring in psychology in part b/c of him, & I feel like his class changed my life. He's funny (hilarious actually), uses great examples which are easy to relate to, & changes how you see things
Prof. Dolderman is very enthusiastic about psychology and it comes out in his lectures. He explains subjects clearly and often supplements his lectures with short videoclips. One of my Favorite profs, if you can definately try to take one of his classes!!
Amazing.Simply Fantastic! A nice person, never mind inspiring prof. Do not skip lectures.
Nice guy, but I found his tests to be SO hard..just right of the text, but covering ANYTHING and so ambiguous. It's still worth taking his class, but requires extreme diligence.
the best professor i've ever had. absolutely loved the course and the lectures were actually fun and enjoyable. never missed a class just because they were almost entertaining. just amazing. he is the best
enjoys the sound of his own voice. loves to go off on tangents. irritating laugh as well, that makes you consider jumping from one of the balconies of con hall.
Very compassionate person, and seems to really enjoy teaching the course. Definitely worth the work.
Charismatic, loves what he's doing. Some of the psychology studies he presents in a very interesting way. Exams were unreasonably tough. Requires you to thoroughly know material he presented in class, material presented in the textbook. Sometimes he will even throw in a question asking you % of people that have ADHD. Like how does that test ps
An absolutely wonderful teacher! Considerate, funny, and really seems to love teaching. Makes learning worthwhile!
Fantastic prof. One of my favourite classes. Dolderman was funny and engaging, and seemed to really care about his students.
Great prof! Amazing, hilarious lecturer! Make sure you go to class cause some questions on the exam pertain to SPECIFIC examples in lectures. Brutal testing though, you need to know many details from a 700+ page textbook. Awesome class, AMAZING prof, one of the best in first year, but be prepared to work - go to lectures and read the textbook!!
Course material was interesting and lecture style was great. Dolderman always had personal stories and examples that related to the material and made it more interesting.
Had him for environmental and positive psych. He definitely lived up to the great opinions of those who had his course before! Easy-to-follow lectures with lots interesting and personally relevant examples and anecdotes. Genuinely cares about his students - gave us a 1-week extention on the paper! Only complaints are difficult MC midterm & slow marking.
I'll be forever grateful to Dolderman for introducing me to psychology. He is a sweet and charming man.Very humble, very helpful.Lectures and the material is so interesting that it made me overlook how much work I had to do.He's passionate about his subject, and has a good soul. Oh, and not to forget - funny guy!
tests are kind of not fair...expects you to know the entire textbook for the final. but great prof!
The tests are not fair at all. classes are interesting, but the tests are so hard, unfair, and ridiculous. You must study way over the limit to get a half decent mark in this class.
Too much workload. If you are taking as an elective, I strongly recommend not taking. Waste of time and energy. 700pg textbook in 3 months. Will definately bring your GPA down.
Terrible Experience. Used to be a full-year course with the same text book. All that material in half-year. Plus, we need to attend 4 PSY related experiments which has no benefit to the students. If we do not attend it, we lose 3%.
Amaaaazing. Did great in the class- just do the damn readings and you'll be fine. Very interesting speaker, keeps you engaged. Approachable, great overall!
Amazing Prof.Amazing course. A lot of reading but you don't have to memorize the whole book!I did the readings 3 days before tests, just absorbing info as I went along and I got 100% in the course. The questions are on material you will likely remember. Classes are must- he tests on what he talks about, but its really basic stuff. Great course.
such a smart and funny guy.
AMAZING PROF! Just come to class, pay attention and do the readings. That's what I did and I ended up with 100%. He's very laid-back, very funny, and very approachable. His tests and exams can be challenging, but just remember to read the textbook and to remember the seemingly meaningless and random stories he tells in class. Great class, great prof!
interesting prof and class, although the course material was really challenging if you are coming from the humanities department. study study study and read and an enormous amount of luck to answer those multiple choice questions.
VERY INSPIRING PROF!
Absolutely LOVED the course and the professor. He kept the material fun and interesting. I looked foreward to every lecture. As long as you take notes and read the txt, the course is not all that challenging! Overall, so far my best experience at uoft!
Dolderman is an amazing prof. I looked forward to his lectures, he can make a first year class of 1400 people laugh and make them learn at the same time!
EXAMS ARE VERY INFORMAL.
He is Crystal clear,He makes the course feel easy,I went to the same lecture with a different Prof,, there is a big difference, Dolderman is very friendly, answeres every questions, and has lots of patience...
hard to hear
One of the best profs that I have had so far in 2 years at U of T. He's hilarious and uses stories from his own life to illustrate concepts from the textbook, so be sure to attend lectures because he will test on these stories! Although the readings are heavy for a half course, the material is interesting and the textbook is digestible.
The BEST professor I've ever had at UofT. Exams were really confusing, but lectures were very inspiring.
Without a doubt, one of the best lecturers I've come across at UofT. Very engaging, humorous when appropriate, excellent use of real life examples. Personally, I did not find his tests/exams that difficult at all, and I had no background in biology prior to this course. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor and his introductory course to Psych.
Professor Dolderman is engaging and enthusiastic. Great Prof!!!
Hands down, one of the best lecturers I've had. I marvel at his ability to replicate the same Intro Psyc lectures year after year and deliver them like for the first time each time! BUT BE WARNED -- HE IS HARSH IN HIS EXAMS! If root memorizing minute details of 700 pages in 3 months is not your thing, don't take Dolderman!
I wasn't planning on taking a major in psych before this class, but because of this prof I am. AMAZING lecturer, managed to keep my attention for a full 3 hours of class. And I love his stories :D The workload for this class is high because you need to read the textbook. But if you actually DO read it and take notes, it is a very easy course.
Great teaching abilities, keeps you interested in the topic with interesting examples and stories from his own personal life. Multiple choice questions can be a little tricky so take good notes from ALL chapters in the book and take notes in class.
Excellnt teaching methods. Understands class dynamics and really captivates you with personal and interesting examples/stories. Psychological Science is an excellent psych textbook. All tests are multiple choice. Pay attention to little details and exampls from text. Pay attention to his own anecdotes.
Some test questions does not relate to text or lectures. Too much to read. Tests covers too much detail. heavy Course load.
this guy is the man, i loved intro psych with him, i looked forward to it every week, he made a 3 hour lecture fun and stimulating, i was never bored in his class, as good as Prof. as i've ever had TAKE HIS CLASS !!!!
Great lecturer, waaay too much reading. I took this course to fullfill my distribution requirement and it took away time I could have spent doing better in courses that actually concerned my major. The test questions sometimes had nothing to do with textbook or lecture info.
Prof Dolderman is a hilarious prof and makes lectures go by amazingly quickly through his wit and enthusiasm! This course is amazingly easy as long as you attend his lectures and READ THE MANUAL (I cannot stress the latter enough). Seriously...90+ marks are no biggie as long as you're willing to devote some serious attention and reading time.
Coolest prof I have ever had, mind blowing class (environmental psychology) only downer is really difficult tests.
one of the best profs at UofT
He's amazing, he rocks my worlddd. He has fair tests and as long as you attend class and do the readings, you're good to go.
Amazing prof, great lecturer. Many crucial examples/case studies covered in lecture. Textbook usage is extremely high - you pretty much have to memorize the textbook for the final. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed his class. highly recommended!
A great lecturer! His lectures are funny. His tests are very fair, yet you should read textbook for sure. It is easy to get an A if you read.
Good Teacher for Lectures. Terrible Textbook usage. How can anyone memorize a 700 page textbook in three months?
He is an excellent prof, who is clear and concise, Hes very nice and is quite funny.
awesome prof!!
Prof Dolderman is excellent. Students running him down must be bitter kids looking for a high grade. You put in the work, you'll get the grade. I once asked a question related to psychology and within a day he responded back with a two page long insightful, kind answer. This was after school finished. So considerate, interesting, and fabulous
He is a great prof! Really funny! I never missed any of his lectures. Students who rate him low are the ones who think they are smart but forget psychology requires a lot of reading and time. It's university, you cannot expect to sit there and let the prof teach you everything, you need to do some extra on your own.
The best lecturer ever! Follows the textbook, yet provides a lot of extra examples from real life, which makes concepts understood much easier. His highly entertaining and funny style of lecturing makes information extremely easily absorbed.
Made three hours in an uncomfortable con hall seat enjoyable :) Very good lecturer, funny, engaging. The course itself is also very easy, just read the textbook and listen to his stories. The tests are very simple and straight-forward, no tricks.
One of my favourite professors. Very hilarious-- made lecture very enjoyable to go to... probably the one class in first year that I never missed a lecture. Very good examples... and my favourite part of the class was that in comparison to other psych classes, the questions that he chose for tests was very fair and reflective of material
Great professor!
amazing prof. take this course. he's hilarious and he really wants everyone to succeed!
Adorable, funny, interesting, intelligent, relevant, caring and all around perfect.
excellent prof. love his funny examples. makes psych truly fun to learn. most interesting course i've ever taken before. however, i found the tests to be hard, more studying would've helped. he sometimes put notes up the day of the lecture (sometimes an hour before lecture) so not all students had them, which was difficult for those without laptops
Hard material and extremely tricky exam questions that do not reflect the material learned well. He doesn't wear a microphone and teaches 400 students. He should try to be more considerate instead of funny all the time. He never posts on blackboard and never answers e-mails. One word to describe him: arbitrary.
real good
I cannot sing enough praises about Dolderman! He's hilarious, informative, laid-back and enthusiastic at the same time! Here's some advice: A) Yes, textbook usage is high, but MAKE A SUMMARY of each chapter and you're gold. B) GO TO LECTURES. Exams are ~%60 things he talked about in lectures and ~%40 textbook memory AND *comprehension* questions.
BEST.PROF.EVER. He will make you absolutely fall in love with the course with his funny comments/examples and his radiating enthusiasm! Dolderman makes my day! The course s truly enjoyable and exams are average in difficulty :)
He is the most amazing professor I've had thus far. I am going to have psychology withdrawals next semester. He is so great, beyond words.. I can't even say. His lectures are extremely captivating and he's hilarious. Tests are pretty tricky but all worth it in the end.. you come out of that class knowing everything there is about life.
Amazing Prof. Pay attention during lectures is the key to success. He makes it easy though.
His lectures and readings were really interesting. The tests were pretty difficult. The guest lecturers were quite bad and test prep sessions held by the same people :/ Pretty rewarding course though.
BEST PROF EVER! :D
Funny and great
Really enjoy his lectures, very interesting and sometimes funny
HE'S IRRELEVANT! The tests focus on arbitrary and unimportant info, he goes on and on about one case study that can be summed up in a sentence, he's disorganized, and his humour: dry. I have to say, in comparison to some other profs, he's somewhat more entertaining, though.
He's a good prof but his tests are COMPLETELY textbook based. Anyone can be a good prof and be interesting if they don't teach out of the textbook. I personally found him overrated.
He is a really good professor! His lectures are interesting and funny! The exams are quite challenging only if you don't know your material well enough to apply them to a given situation. I really like him, and so far he is the best professor I had. Last but not the least, he is very cute!
Excellent lecturer but midterm is a bit awkward. Some test questions ask about minute examples given in class. My grade is lower than expected. To future students: attend lectures and record the examples he gives; try to score high on your assignments to pull up your mark; know your theories well and think thoroughly through the test questions!!
He strikes me as a very warm, compassionate man. He goes out of his way to prepare the class for exams outside of class hours. Also, he's cute!
Terrible tests, none of the main ideas of the course show up, just questions from tiny little details. Doesn't say anything helpful for the exam, he must not realize that not everybody can make it to the review session. For a half year course, the text is huge and theres just too much information that he wants to cover. I wouldn't take it again.
Extremely interesting lecturer. Good balance of material from readings and lectures on exams - make sure to remember his anecdotes! Great class, wish I could take more like this.
Dolderman makes lectures really interesting and funny. Keep up with the readings and take note of his examples and stuff in class. They'll both appear on his tests. I say 3/5 textbook, 2/5 lecture. As long as you are engaged with the course materials and understand the concepts well, you'll score 80+ for sure! AND he's cute LOL.
The best lectures I've ever attended, makes course material even more interesting, tests are a bit tricky though.
The guys a boss, take his course if you like psychology even remotely!
One of the best profs ever! He engaged the class, he was fun and exciting. He genuinely enjoyed teaching this class. The material was a bit difficult but his tests were fair. He even went around the entire hall (1500 people) and talked to the students before class. A+ Professor.
One of my favourite profs and hoping to take another one of his courses in the future. He's really funny and engaging... even his tests made me laugh.
The most awesome Proff ever. Love his enthusiasm, humor and clarity.
Lecture material always captivates interests. Nerdy and cute at the same time.
Absolutely fantastic professor! He's so enthusiastic, loves what he does and knows his stuff. Even his test questions were witty and had you giggling in the exam room! Finds so many ways to make a 3hr con hall class engaging & awesome!
PSY100 is not an easy course. However, Dolderman's humor makes students interested enough during the long three hour long stretch, which is good cause it means you don't have to revise from his lecture notes - it'll be imprinted in your long-term memory. His tests are tricky but he does not make specific questions. Buy the study guide!
Just want to give a big shout out to our beloved intro psych prof Dolderman. PSY100 was the most incredible class I've ever had in Con Hall. I felt extremely motivated to go to every single class. The lectures were very engaging and his anecdotes and examples were also very helpful. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! THIS GUY MAKES PEOPLE TICK!
Unreal. 1500 students in the class and this prof gets applause at the end of every lecture. I would attend these classes even if I wasn't enrolled. Took it for a breadth requirement, against the advice of my college registrar - soooo glad I did. This course gives you life value, but the workload is heavy if you want to get a good mark. Luv u Dan
The best professor I've had at UofT. I cannot say enough good about him! Understands students and really cares about the material. He's engaging and makes three hours go by in an instant. Tests are fair and even funny sometimes. I really hope to get him again in future years.
This was a three hour class for me, but he managed to make e not only pay attention but enjoy the material! He's very funny and obviously loves psych. He speaks the whole class though and things he says in lectures will be on the exam so do not miss classes! E.g funny anecdotes he tells in lecture will be on the test!
His class was engaging and I always looked forward to attending it. He makes funny comments often and doesn't go over much textbook material. Tests are SUPER easy. Just keep up with readings, go to lecture (they're interesting anyways), and you'll get an A.
such a great prof! lively and engaging. wasn't really *necessary* to attend lectures but i did anyway because they were actually quite enjoyable.
He was absolutely the best prof I've ever had. Every class was like attending a motivational speech. He is so knowledgeable, interesting and funny, and you can tell he genuinely cares about people and changing the world. I wish he could be my prof in every class!! I cannot say enough good things about him
Dolderman is an amazing lecturer and brings Social Psychology to a whole new level. If you love interesting, applicable and engaging classes this is definitely one to take. However, Dolderman is not terribly organized and assignments were VERY vague. Depending how much structure you like, this class could be your best class ever or your worse.
Admit it! Daniel Dolderman is a name brand of UofT psychology.
Interesting classes, great for coffee table talks but extremely unorganized and minimum information on what will be on tests. Creative students love him, students that prefer structure hate him.
I feel like I am in the minority when I say I didn't enjoy Dolderman as a professor. He didn't use a powerpoint and often went off topic. The group project was tonnes of fun and super easy. However, I found that I did not learn/ gain anything from the course.
Out of all the first year courses I took, he is prob the only proper "university prof". he doesn't teach stuff but rather gets you interested and introduced to topics which you are expected to read. His lectures are intuitive, engaging and appropriate for university level studies
He is just simply awesome, but not taking questions during class though.
HE IS THE BEST PROF IVE HAD SO FAR. HE IS AMAZING, FUNNY, KNOWLEDGABLE, idk how else to describe BEST BEST BEST BEST!!!! love you Dolderman
He is absolutely the best professor of all my first year classes. Incredibly inspiring and intellectually engaging classes. Great humour! His tests are so witty that I giggle the entire time - requires application so make sure you really understand the materials. Also, this class is the reason I'm aiming for the Specialist with Thesis!
He's very interesting to listen to, but I feel as if oftentimes he has an agenda, like he's trying to push his beliefs on you. Not super welcoming of all viewpoints.
best prof
Difficult
Great lecturer and all around great guy. Obviously passionate about psychology and about teaching - ensuring we understand the content. He makes it easy to digest and remember the information. Awesome professor, hope to have classes with him in future.
My favourite class this semester. I never fell asleep in any of his lectures. Super funny, inspirational, and witty -- if you love professors who expand out of the concretedull textbook stuff, he's great. He really knows how take the most relevant and important info and explain those concepts in depth.
Prof. Dolderman is a fantastic prof, really engaging lectures and really approachable both after lectures and during office hours. Lectures are significantly different to the textbook though so you do have to read it and come to class, but definitely worth it!
Dan Dolderman is by far one of the most engaging and awesome professors for the first year program at UofT. Really enjoyed my time in his class, and looking forward to having him as a prof once again.
Dolderman is really good in the sense that most of his lectures are far from boring(Yes i said most because for some lectures that are two hours, i cant help but sleep during class). He makes class interesting and the concepts easy to remember. The reading material is long, but i don't really blame him for that, because it IS A HALF YEAR COURSE!
Dolderman was an amazing prof! A dynamic presenter and super clear in his explanations regarding key concepts! His lectures are easy to recount come exams, a lot of fun(yes, even the two hour ones fly by) and he always links theory to real life. Oh and he sat in our exam session, did the exam w us then later gave bonus marks for unjust questions!
Awesome prof , I enjoy going to his class. Very engaging, a nice blend of lecture and class participation. Tests are challenging but fun. Would definitely take courses with him again.
Super great and really funny
Great prof! He is super approachable and cares about the students despite it being an 800+ class. The lessons are engaging, the textbook is easy to read, and in general it is a very enjoyable course (my favourite one this year).
I BASICALLY WANNA MARRY HIM.
You won't want to skip his class :)
so damn smart and hot. so down. this class changed my lifeway of thinking. take anything this man teaches.
Dolderman is the best professor I have ever had. HE IS THE BEST!
Fantastic Professor, although his multiple choice tests are not easy, they are extremely fair. They aren't the kind of multiple choice where you can just memorize the textbook, which is good because you're actually learning interesting facts and applying them, which feels pretty cool.
he can make you want to switch to a psychology major. He's nice, fair and genuinely wants everyone to pass. Just do your reading sand go to class and you'll do well in the course.
A fantastic professor and an inspiring human being. Enjoyed every part of the course.
THIS GUY IS AMAZING! plus he is super nice and interesting. Don't miss out his lectures!
Do the readings. Go to lectures. He is quite unclear on expectations and no clues allotted on how things will be tested. I greatly value the material, but I don't know where I stand. He will expound on thematic points from literature but does so through anecdotes and stories in no particular order, except pertaining to syllabus. Huge risk on GPA.
Great prof and inspirational guy, gives interesting lectures and anecdotes. If I could take this course again, I would.
THIS PROF IS HILARIOUS ILY DOLDERBAE!!!!!!!
Wonderful lectures, and great course material. A concise introduction to psychology.
Excellent lecturer, he pretty much captivates you in your seat. If you read the textbook, know the concepts in the textbook, and listen to what he says, you'll be fine. Some of the multiple choice questions are strictly based on slides covered in lecture. His tests are strangely fun.
The best prof ever. He cares so much about his students and puts a lot of effort into making lectures funny and captivating!!
Easily one of the best professors at uoft - I'm surprised he doesn't get tired of teaching the same thing every semester - he REALLY loves his subject! Lectures were a lot of fun and kinda essential, tests were difficult but they were hilarious as well (hippy surfer dude mannnn). study from the lectures and the textbook!
Dolderman is hands down the most inspirational and incredible prof at U of T. The ONLY problem is that his tests are FREAKING hard. READ,REVIEW and REPEAT. Be prepared to work for your mark. But do not worry, in his lectures you won't really mind. P.S. he has the BEST laugh ever!
Amazing Prof, definitely recommending him. There's no words that can justify how amazing he made the course and how interesting psy is because of him
The material could be boring at times, but he made it SO interesting. It was also really cool that he made a lot of the material applicable to real life. Fantastic lecturer who can make 2 hour lectures fly by - genuinely enjoyed the lectures. Hilarious midterms and finals are a plus. Make sure to keep up with readings!
He's an exceptional lecturer, really entertaining and inspiring. Especially in an introductory course, this is super important! He's funny and I found that everyone I talked to really enjoyed his lectures and found the material interesting - all not psych majors. It's really important to attend lectures though - he uses specific e.g., in the exams!
Dolderman is one of my favourite profs at uoft. The course has A LOT of reading but his witty humour during lectures makes up for it. The midterms and final were all multiple choice which made it difficult to decipher between options however he always cracks a joke wherever he can, even within give away questions.
Really interesting prof, but can get a bit boring during the two hour lectures. His tests are hilarious and overall it's a really fun course.
Lecture material is important, but they were uploaded online (I believe one or two had a few malfunctions). Either way, I loved his lectures so much I came to class and sat in the front row all the time. Don't be intimidated by the weight of tests and the exam; if you do the readings, take some notes, and study beforehand, you'll love this course.
SUPER CUTE AND FAV LECTURER
Took it second time, i love his lectures. For the tests, as long as you cover the required chapters and follow the lectures, you're good to go. (there're might be a few tricky questions on the tests tho). Good luck.
I just say... take psy100 with him. He CHANGES the way you look at the world. even if you are not crazy about psychology (like me) he still is a perfect prof. fair tests, great lectures, supportive and engaging... and if you are into psychology, he changes your life! great prof.
Enlightened after every class. 11/10 would take again, Dolderman is the absolute BEST.
He is funny and everyone loves him
AMAZING class. I anticipated every psych lecture and I was never disappointed. Prof. Dolderman is the best of the best. He's hilarious, he's engaging, and he's obviously extremely knowledgeable about the content he discusses. Every lecture with Prof. Dolderman was basically a TED talk. Inspirational, entertaining, and very thought-provoking.
Great lecturer, I'd definitely recommend this course for a first year student especially in their first semester. All the evaluations are multiple choice but can still be a bit difficult. The textbook is necessary, and there's a lot to remember. The material's also pretty interesting.
He makes his classes interesting, and he really cares about his students. Tests are not necessarily easy, but you can still get As if you learn to think critically about the subject matter.
While PSY336 was one of my favourite courses in terms of content, I would have to say that it was heavily disorganized and tough to manage. While Dan Dolderman's lectures are nothing short of engaging, they are different and unstructured. The course can be a little challenging and it is a risk on your GPA.
He's probably the most motivating prof i've had since first year. Every one of his lectures is like a TED talk (and he actually has one, if you want to watch it!) Super friendly, super confident in his words, and he makes teaching more about life and how it relates to us rather than just the plain old textbook. Might as well be switching to psych.
He's not the best lecturer I've had . His tests are not reflective of lecture material.. Wouldn't recommend him
He wasn't very inspirational and his lectures are way too long .. He needs to start being more fair with his exams and Make them according to what he's lecturing
His lecture is pretty good, get inspired every time. However, the test is rather hard, usually cover topics not mentioned on the lectures. Also, only the tests are counted for grade.
Certainly the best lecturer I had in 1st year. He's witty and informative. Quite a bit of reading to do. But tests are a joke.
Without a doubt, Dan Dolderman is my favourite teacher. His lectures consistently provoked emotional responses from everyone. He also sparked my passion for psychology and I hope that one day, I can be as inspirational as him.
My favourite Prof so far. He makes the course very interesting and fun and you never get bored. I didn't wan't to miss a lecture because they were all too good. Also, he had someone to record his lectures and post them on blackboard which i thought was awesome. The course isn't hard as long as you attend/watch lectures and do the readings.
Favorite prof so far. Absolutely fascinating lectures which gives you deep insights of what psychology is all about. As for easiness, I would argue that his PSY100 is not one you could take as a bird course, but you should definitely take it if you want to learn a lot. Also a very chill guy outside of the classroom. Definitely going for him again.
Excellent professor who is passionate about Psychology. Be prepared to study if you are considering psychology as a major. The multiple choice exams were fair, 30% based on class, 20% on application, and 50% from textbook. Keep up with your readings, and you can fair out well.
Hands down best prof at U of T (and I'm going into 5th year). Every lecture is like watching a super interesting and inspirational TED talk. He knows psychology like no one else, and tells personal and heartfelt stories. He is definitely a very special human. I cannot even say enough positive things. Dolderman will change your life :)
Dolderman was hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures were fun and he's also a fun person to talk to, I've talked to him after class and in office hours. His tests were also hilarious! I would take another course with him.
Loved Dolderman. Entertaining and informative lectures, though the book is quite important for tests. Am taking again this year and highly looking forward to it.
Great lectures
Dolderman is hands down my favourite professor. His lectures are straight forward and they link with the readings very well. He's also hilarious and makes it really easy for you to listen to what he's saying in class. He stays back after class for almost 1 hour and answers any questions you have in depth. I LOVE HIM DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.
Absolutely Amazing! Makes you be so interested in the Lecture and appreciate the subject from different perspective. Even cracks jokes in tests!
Well articulated in the 21st cen. Vocabulary. He knows how to engage students in the lecture. Speaks in terms that can be understood. Each lecture was one that I was glad I attended.
Good lectures for students who understand everything, horrible lectures for students who come to learn structured materials. No class slides, extremely unplanned, never use microphone, soooo hard to hear if you sit far back.
His lectures changed my life, best prof I have EVER had!
Deep lectures. Interesting way of presenting information
I absolutely loved his lectures! Very inspirational. He made them feel personal even in a class of 1500+ people. He's super approachable, so don't be afraid to come up to him after lectures or during office hours. Do your readings, don't skip lectures, talk to him, and you'll do just fine. Look forward to taking more of his courses!
Amazing professor. The lectures are always super engaging and you always come out of them with new and fascinating insights. There are a lot of readings, but if you keep up with them and go to the lectures (he makes some test questions specifically about the lectures) it's easy to do well in this course.
the average wait time for office hours was upwards of 3 hours all term, not even just after tests or before assignments. there were no lecture slides, barely any indication of what was discussed in class, but the class material was often completely different from the readings, so missing a class was basically throwing away huge chunks of grades
Amazing lectures but the test are so easy that by just reading the book without going to class you can get more than 80 in the midterms and final. No point in taking this course with Dolderman if you're not gonna be at the lectures.
His lectures built on the textbook material more than explain it. Most of the test is from the textbook, but he directly questions some his stories from the lectures. A lot of readings and tests were pretty hard. The lectures were nice and entertaining though.
Amazing prof, makes lectures very interesting and engaging. He clearly loves psychology and that is evident in his lectures. Disappointed in the the assessments for this course, tests were challenging and I felt like I couldn't share my understanding of the course
Ah, Dolderman. What an adventure. First and foremost: he *is* a good prof. His lectures are great, and they/the book adequately prepare you for midterms I'd say. Honestly no complains about this. But, certain parts- mostly administrative- weren't fun. He obviously needed help. Assignment feedback was sparse, and marks nowhere to be seen *still*.
Fantastic prof, he is unlike any other prof, however, I am afraid I will be unable to pursue a psychology degree because one of his tests was extremely hard. He added 24% (12 questions worth)to the test. The average for the class was a C+. He was such an awesome prof, def recommend his class, but do not take it as an average booster.
Prof. Dolderman is great. He's nice, hilarious, popular and fun to talk to after class. His lectures are so interesting. Make sure not just understand concepts but know how to apply them because tests are not really easy. Read textbook before class and take notes during lectures. Overall, psy100 is the best course I've ever taken! Enjoy!!!
Not a bird course! don't take it to boost your gpa and don't take this course With Dolderman if you don't like psychology! Class average was a C+ too much readings. However, lectures were entertaining.
Dr. Dolerman is one of my favourite professors so far. He makes his class really fun and interesting and tries to make it engaging. His midterms are 50/50 from lecture and the readings.
Great prof, funny & entertaining but kinda disorganized (not sure if it's him or just the psych department in general). Both lectures and readings are VITAL, don't get stuck with 13 chapters to read 2 days before the final. For midterms/exams: go beyond memorizing & make sure you know how to APPLY the knowledge. His questions are hilarious btw.
Took psy100 and psy230 with him. Such an inspirational prof, sad when the semester was over. One of the best classes I've ever taken, lectures were intriguing and kept your attention, relatable. Sometimes the mc questions can be tricky but he's very helpful in going over material and helping prepare. Defs take more classes with him. Phenomenal.
One of my favourite profs in first year. Hilarious, witty, and above all, extremely clear in his elaboration of the material. In terms of exams, READ the textbook and REVIEW the lectures as there will be questions from both on the exam. Less memorisation, more critical thinking and how to apply your knowledge to a real problem. Amazing prof.
Has gotten really disorganized and very unclear about grading. Also very confusing lectures
Too many readings assignment and the material was very difficult. Rarely goes over readings in class
totally unorganized
Dolderman was inspirational; he's easily the best prof I've ever had
He's an incredibly interesting lecturer, however, his overall style is disorganized. He gives very limited explanations for assignments and often fails to properly organize test review sessions and tutorials. His tests were also unnecessarily difficult
Definitely the best professor I've ever had. Also definitely the most unorganized professor I've ever had. We've had a couple assignments that had close to zero instructions. But I still stand behind my words; he is a great lecturer and he keeps you engaged. And he is funny. Really funny.
Professor Dolderman is the greatest professor I've had in my 4 years at UofT. His environmental psychology class is beyond inspirational and incorporates many of the psychological concepts we've covered in the pursuit of our (psych) degrees. The workload is standard for a 4th year course. This class will change the your life.
Dolderman will make you leave every lecture feeling like your life has changed. However, his organizational skills don't exist. It is almost March and we haven't got feedback from our December paper. Doesn't attend his own office hours. Doesn;'t provide a rubric for papers, but then marks using one. 0 Lecture slides/notes - just talking < 3
One of those rare, inspirational professors. Makes an effort to get to know you and uses stories to make material more engaging. Although he asks test questions in an unconventional manner, they're easy if you follow his study advice. No slides, so coming to class is important (and fun!) Group project was mediocre, but what group project isn't?
Prof. D. is a true legend at UofT. This isn't your normal lecture, when he teaches and you pay attention, his content will change the way you think about the world. I would recommend everybody to merely audit any one of his courses, you will be fascinated!
Very story orientated in lectures with empty lecture slides that make it hard to get to the meat and bone of what was important. Reading the textbook was essential for me.
Amazing prof. His lectures were interesting and inspiring. I feel more confident about Psychology because of him.
I had Dolderman 5 years ago, before any of the big events went down, and he was known as one of the three pillars of good teaching in the psychology department. PSY100 was my favorite class of my first year, many memories -- and his stories were always relevant, if you paid attention. Strange how soon no new students will be told or know about him.
