Enlightening professor!
I took his class and then TA'd for him the following year. He really got me thinking. GREAT TEACHER!!!! Challenges your expectations. Makes you think.
Some people hate him, I LOVED HIM!!! He definitely gets you thinking. Pissed off sometimes, but pissed off is thinking. He is a real treasure. Everybody needs PSCI 110 for GE, take it from Dan!
Dan is great. He definitely gets you thinking. Sometimes I come out of that class madder than hell, but he forces me to think about things. He's a great teacher. I'd DEFINITELY recommend taking PSCI from him.
I LOVE DAN FAULK!!! He actually makes a student think without putting them down.
he miss uses his forum
Speed-freak conspiracy theorist, acts like a cartoon, extremely intelligent and so fast he is sometimes hard to follow. You will never feel like you are smarter than he is, and you will NEVER get bored in his class.
Uh...can you bias? Left winger

An odd man, but he makes class fun and interesting.
super intelligent. he is my role model! very funny and makes you think. an excellent guy to learn from, but if you like any sort of order whatsoever, i wouldn't take the class. definitely sit in sometime though
amazing personality and zest.
At first i enjoyed his class then i figured out that with all his ramblings he recites the same conspiracy mumbo jumbo and acomplishes nothing. Other than that its an easy b if you do the required work. Personaly find a better use of your time.
I was frustrated by his lack of organization, lack of focus, lack of any substance! I agree that he misuses his forum. Save the outrageousness for talk radio and make the class worth the students time Dan!

well-versed in leftist politics, pompous behavior, extrememly outspoken, knowledgeable, humorous, scatterbrained (and yet so focused when caught in a rant), clever, but hey, it's only the second day of class.
Complete joke, learned absolutely nothing, in this class. I thought after the first week he was a complete hypocrite. Any prof that tells you he is 'God' needs to have a reality check
Highly amusing! You never knew what he was going to do next, so you sort've fear for your life. Sometimes he's hard to follow, but then you catch onto the connections he was making later on in the lecture. It was the highlight of my tues/thurs afternoons.

yay dan. dont take him too seriously.most of the time he's saying things just to get people fired up and thinking. real devil's advocate. pissed me off so much so that i now major in poli sci. dont trust him though... he's always up to something...
Dan can be hard to follow...and he is def bias...but that doesn't mean you can't learn from him. He's not saying you have to agree...in fact his whole thing is about thinking for yourself. Great teacher.
He forgot to read my final, despite the fact it was the first one turned in. I had to email him a copy of it during the summer before he would change my grade. Oh, and the class is a total wank.
super fun and eye-opening class. everyone should take a class like this at least once in their college career.

This guy is a nutjob
Every student should experience his government class. He is so very entertaining and makes you think about things which are not presented in everyday life.
Absolutely the most interesting, entertaining, and cooolest teacher i ever had at Humboldt. He teaches you useful stuff and is an easy grader. All he wants you to do is give stuff an honest try. A++ teacher.
Faulk is an interesting lecturer but his assignments are poorly constructed and don't contribute to any learning at all. The grief in dealing with the assignments is only worthwhile if you find his lectures as stimulating as I did.
He is crazy, and he will lie to you in class just to get you thinking. question him at all times but enjoy the class. He is a great teacher and the class is truly an experience. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about him, but, I became a political science minor after taking his class. I loved it. I did not love him, but he doesn't want you to. Hate authority, hate systems, look beyond the system and create you're own.
Good class but not for me. maybe if i was 24 and had a ****.
Sit in on a class and see for yourself. This man is absolutely amazing.
This calss was a requirement as an AI class but i am glad i took it. He makes you open new doors and question new things. The class is worthwile.
Faulk is crazy, but he's awesome! I think everyone American should have to take his class, although the group projects SUCK. He's a pretty hard grader, too. BUT, he's exremely intelligent and very passionate about politics. He's sarcastic and hilarious. Sometimes I wonder if he's just making things up, though. Anyway, it's an extremely entertaining class. You can't fall asleep when he's yelling in your face all the time....

I hated this class, I dropped out the 2nd class, so did one of my friends. We took the same class from a different professor the next sememster. I thought he was rude and boring.
No text books, no tests, what more can you ask for?
Kick ass teacher, cool to butt heads with. If you like classes that push envelopes than take this one.

Step out of the box....way out...
He is a great teacher you just need to follow his lectures or you will miss the big point that he is trying to get accross to you.
It's interesting that a teacher who twists and manipulates facts to initiate "debate" would be so celebrated by students. His teaching tactics may be a successful method for graduate level courses, but in the case of a beginning course, this does nothing but confuse. Instead of laying down a solid understanding of gov't, he undermines poli sci.

I didn't want to take this class originally, but he's great and really opened up my eyes about the political world.
Great professor. Intimidating at first but as long as you are clear on the expectations, (or if you ask alot of questions for clarity) and have some common sense you should do well, not to mention learn alot. He will force you to look at things differently. Take this class.
Dan Faulk is a crazy man, he will make you take a second look at the world around you. go to class its 5 percent of your grade but thats the the point of going

An excellent lecturer. The most interesting lectures I have had in a class. He is a bit disorganized and I hate group projects (which there are 3 of), but NO tests. He definitely opens your mind up to things that you had never thought of/questioned before. A hard grader, so you should take it cr/no credit. I looked forward to his lectures.
You will love him or hate him. He is extremely biased, but it is a perspective you will get few other places. He discusses obscure but important things. I found him incredibly interesting, engaging and thought-provoking. Take the opportunity to talk to him one-on-one in his office, it's worth a lot. Least boring poli-sci class ever. I loved him.
Faulk is pretty freakin amazing. The class was really engaging, hes a bit biased but its an interesting perspective to have. I loved the class and definitely recommend it.
boring class, cliche bumpersticker politics.if it blows your mind then you have a long way to go. not a true academic. . made me realize that the far left is just as idiotic as the far right. easy A if you just give him what he wants to read. dishonors students' intelligence by witholding genuine study. tries too hard to be a radical.
He is actually a really awesome teacher. He really teaches what is going on in the government, and you learn really interesting things in that class. He is really nice about giving you a better grade, I wrote a poem for my final and he raised my grade from a C to a B, so don't be afraid to be creative in his class.
I must not be a "true" academic. Great prof with great ways to make you think.
This professor is a conspiracy theorist! He rants about the evils of trust, marriage, tradition etc. He expects you to conduct your own education outside of the classroom. Will say he can be bribed with organic, fair trade dark chocolate.
dan faulk is an interesting guy but i went in the class thinking it was going to be an enlightening ge class without too much work. there are 2 projects in the class, the second project was insane! he wanted so much information but was so vague on how he wanted it. he rants in class with nothing to do about the projects.
Really interesting. A class you enjoy going to. Will totally change the way you think. Don't wait till the last minute to do the second project. Enjoyed the projects made an awesome friend. It is amazing how you will start to apply everything to in class to daily life. I totally recommend this class.
doesn't make sense or explain anything. Rambles for an hour and a half about his family and how wonderful and canadian they are. He talks down to students as if they're all stupid and he actually said " CSU's don't prepare you for anything." then don't teach at one!
Amazing teacher. Seriously, if you're easily offended though, don't take the class. He likes to get the students passionate by relating the material to us and focusing on the negative aspects of government, which obviously makes some people uncomfortable. He'll really get you to think. Furthermore, he's hilarious. You'll look forward to class.
a different approach to the typical class room. its a nice change and gets you thinking outside the box. i wouldnt call it 'conspiracys'. opens your mind to many institutions including god, marriage, the government...blah blah blah, open your minds people.
By far the most interesting and intriguing class I've had in school so far, and I'm not limiting that to my last 3 yrs in college. Makes you question things that are VERY important, tells students things the TV won't tell you. PSCI 110 is req'd anyway, TAKE DAN's CLASS!! Very animated which keeps students entertained while being educated. A+++
Dan is pretty much awesomeness personified. If you're confused or offended by his ramblings, go to his office hours! He is very willing to discuss what's bothering you, and very helpful with clarifying what he's looking for in the projects!
Very insightful and charming. This isn't a class where you won't learn anything.
very interesting class. no homework only requires 3 projects for the semester. some of his ideas and theorys were a little out there, but they kept me entertained! he really made me think about issues going on today, even ones i wasnt aware of
umm. i dont really like his class that much cuz his theories are kinda out there. although he doesnt give out any homework. he only requires 3 projects. mannn they require ALOT of thinking.
AMAZING class. The most entertaining hour and 20 minute class I have EVER had. I am rarely bored. Plus, NO MIDTERMS OR FINALS! no tests at all! Although the projects he requires are group projects ( kinda annoying) and pretttty difficult. Makes you think though. love it. everyone should take this class.
I dont concent to a search....Good times.. Insightful person at times. Good Class Overall, group projects kinda wack...
did not like this class at all. his thinking makes him seem like he is from another planet
Do not take this class if you actually want to learn something. Extremely easy. All he does is rant, and you'll either find what he is saying to be profound or you'll want to pull your hair out listening to him. All projects are group projects, and those are easy if just parrot his rants back at him. No learning is done whatsoever in this class.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!! HE IS LIKE NO OTHER TEACHER AND HE DOESN'T SUGAR COAT ANYTHING. HE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANT TO HEAR IT OR BELIEVE IT. IF YOU WANT TO READ THE LIES IN A TEXTBOOK, DONT TAKE HIM. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN WHAT GOVT IS REALLY ABOUT, TAKE HIM AT ALL COST!! LOVED IT!!! :)
Basically the whole class is just him lecturing/ranting about various political (and non-political) matters. Interesting at times, but there are things I'd rather be doing during those 3 hours of my Monday night. The group projects are alright but he's a hard grader and it's hard to know what he wants.
Dan Faulk is hot... Period. And he makes you want to learn
Very opinionated and passionate. He knows his stuff. Yes he rants but he's very funny and really makes you stop and think about things in a new way. All work is group projects and no tests/quizzes. His class is not for everyone. Take it if you like rather radical and completely insane professors. He is truly Humboldt County.
I really hated his class, the books we had to read were the only thing that made it somewhat interesting. Going to the 3hr lectures were a waste of time, unless it was the class that you had to pick partners for a group project. The lectures have nothing to do with the projects.
Dan Faulk is a provocative man, in the best way possible. I often left class with anxious energy to take action, understanding that the nature of that action, whether it be productive or destructive, was completely my choice. His lectures stimulated me in such a way that left me thirsty to do my own research--to keep on learning, more and more.
The only good thing about this teacher is that is lectures are interesting and he has good humor. Other wise his projects have no instruction you are left guessing what he wants and he is a harsh grader. Working in groups is very annoying because no one understands his assignments in the first place so you will be wasting time.
Dan Faulk is an incredibly interesting lecturer, his knowledge of his subject is practically encyclopedic and he has a great sense of humor. It can be difficult to predict what he is looking for in his project. However, if you take the time to talk to him about the projects he is very helpful.
Excellent teacher! All his lectures tie into the projects to give you a complete view of the system. Some would say hes crazy but hes only bringing energy to the room, he wants people to get fired up and actually work towards change. If you do the work than you have nothing to worry about. Ask for clarification on project instructions. Go to class!
Dan is an amazing teacher, he is passionate about what he teaches. His assignments are confusing, but if you make the time to go to his office he is very helpful. Do the extra credit if you want to get the A!
Dan is a great person. he is a very smart and makes you think. Yes it is not easy at times to do something different than what you're used to for all your educational life, but he makes you come to realize what real learning is.
Awesome.
Prepair to be rewired, and enjoy it. One of the greatest experiences of my college career. This class was a GE and I thought it was going to be a drag, Go to class, it's worth it.
Dan Faulk is...interesting. Half the time I'm not sure what he's ranting about, and the other half the time I'm frantically scribbling notes because it's so interesting. I'm still not sure how we're being graded, and the projects kind of suck, but overall he's a decent teacher. As long as you don't get offended easily. And have an open mind.
Dan is awesome! A total rebel. His discussions will make you think outside the box, and question your life. He's a hard grader! Be on your toes because he calls people out for their opinions and thoughts. Your grade is based on 3 group projects and a solo or group project. I loved the class.
This instructor is a role model of how not to speak in a professional setting. I dropped his class due to references he made that were not relevant and inappropriate to a PSCI course. I was intrigued by the course content presented through the syllabus, but won't support a prof. who models poor judgement to his male students
He's REALLY passionate about what he believes in and talks about some of the most interesting things I've ever heard a teacher say - some I don't agree with at all, but still cool to hear. Definitely out there and gets his point across. Hard to follow in lecture, but so interesting!
Faulks is an amazing lecturer, but his projects are quite time consuming, and you CAN'T do them last minute, or you will fail them. Although he never took attendance, I would suggest showing up. He will provide insight as to how to do the projects. Plus, his lectures are almost always extremely interesting.
I love DaAn Faulk! he is a great professor and you will lear SOO much in his class. things you'd never learn anywhere else. He is pretty sarcastic but if you know not to take it personally you'll be fine. in order to get an good grade in his class you MUST read 1984 and the other books he assigns. the group projects do suck but just get through it.
Most unforgettable teacher I've ever had and probably ever will have. He teaches in character, sort of like Steven Colbert does his show in character. Lectures are incredibly entertaining. If something he says makes you angry or you think he's on a tangent, he's probably making a point. Don't take anything personally.
First I was really nervous because I did not think I would like the instructor. If you actually go to class you will totally get him and where he is coming from. Great Instructor. Take this freshmen year
I put off taking Political Science 110 until senior, that how much a didn't care for politics and institutions, now I wish I would've taken Dan's class freshman year, I would've minored in political science. His class is extraordinarily interesting. He teaches in a proactive and fun way. Most importantly, his class makes you think.
It's been 2 years since I took his class but he's just one of those guy's you'll never forget. He is able to connect with his students in a comedic way and inspires them. It's teachers like this that make me want to stay in school, wish there were more like him.
Great Professor! The class is challenging but that is how it is designed. Conspiracy theorist or not, it makes you address ideas you haven't before. Well done Faulk!
Class is unorganized. The Grading system doesn't make sense. The grades are based off all group projects; the majority of the students do no work and still pass. Attendance is totally optional and unnecessary.
He is very unclear on what he wants. He leaves students to guess his expectations and if/when they guess wrong his grades do not reflect kindly. His lectures are funny and informative. If you do not attend class it will show in project 3/ test 2. He does not use a textbook, instead uses other books such as 1984. This class is mainly group projects.
Anyone who gives Dan a bad review is either afraid for their egos being smashed by his brilliant political theory, or frustrated by his high standards and never went to his office hours. Just go and ask him what he wants, and he will tell you exactly what you need to do to get the grade you want. Unfortunately for some, this requires THINKING!!!!!!
While you had to actually prepare for this class Dan did an amazing job of opening the classes consciousness and really has us exploring our government.
This professor, while he knew what he was talking about was big on conspiracy theories. But throw that down the memory hole :
Dan finds ways to connect the class content to our lives outside of school. Not an easy class, but if you do the work + respect the syllabus, you will do well. Don't take everything he says too seriously. Students that hate him are not use to how challenging the class + concepts are. They cannot handle the truth. DO NOT TAKE THE WEDNESDAY CLASS.
Professor Faulk is a wonderful and knowledgeable instructor. It's pretty easy to get an A if you complete all your assignments according to the standard that is stated in the syllabus.
There are so many of the above I wanted to check! Dan Faulk is an amazing teacher. There is no way to take his class without thinking. He opens your eyes to the 21st century. There was so much to learn and it was frustratingly hard at times, however, It was incredibly rewarding. Dan can ignite a passion for action. He is a gifted.
I took a class from him in 1999, before this website even existed. As I was browsing through my Alma Mater I immediately recognized the name! What a pleasure it was to take his class. Completely revolutionized the way I think. 15 years later, I still think his PSCI upper division GE is one of the components of what higher ed is all about.
This guy is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. It should be mandatory to take his class, it really opens your eyes. Attendance is totally mandatory, but still worth it to go. Make sure you find a group of people who won't lead you to failure because the group projects are the graded part of the class. 10/10
Sarcastic so don't take him serious. Have an open mind about everything or else you're going to look stupid trying to argue with him.
he's an amazing professor but wasn't very clear on what he wanted on the projects. We didn't have tests really, nor homework. Attendance isn't mandatory as long as you get the work done on time. He's an amazing speaker, defiantly makes you think about the government and what it upholds.
Crazy professor, but he will give you the humboldt experience. he is passionate and funny, but this is not an easy class! group projects are tough and he's a hard grader. awesome experience though.
He is an amazing professor, but be prepared to ask questions. If you don't understand something ASK HIM. He will help you, especially if he knows that you care. I would recommend doing the extra credit project. It will help your grade, plus its fun if you're into it. TALK TO HIM OUTSIDE OF CLASS. Don't let yourself get behind, and go to lecture.
Dan was one of the best teachers I've ever had! His humor and satire are on point, the work isn't too difficult, but he's made me think like so few others have. Please, if you have any choice, take this class! And GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS
As intense and terrifying as Dan Faulk may be, he does an exceptional job of challenging your perception about our governmental, societal, and economic institutions. His class WILL alter your philosophies and knowledge about the world we live in, though whether that is for better or for worse is entirely subjective.
Amazing professor and great guy even if it doesn't seem like it at first. He offends pretty much everyone at some point, but he's usually being sarcastic. His class is not hard if you go to his office hours. Getting an A is easy if you remember that EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE. Don't give him dark chocolate unless he has to re-grade something.
Dan is weird. He knows far more about the real world than you do so let his lessons sink in. It's a perfect night class because you just get to listen to a brilliant lunatic rave for three hours. Class is 100% group projects and every assignment is very open ended. You actually have to use you brain for this class (so it's not for everyone).
He's a mad genius basically. But best teacher i've ever had. HIGHLY recommend
At first I thought the guy was nuts. He seems to be very intense and I think he just does it to scare students away. Throughout the semester, I realized that he just wanted us to be more well-informed of our rights as citizens. He's a funny, dude. You won't ever get bored in class but get ready to do lots of work
You will never meet a professor like this. His lectures are extremely interesting (most of the time) and the way he teaches is something to get used to. He makes class fun and intriguing but I won't lie, his projects are intense. He means well and has good intentions. I strongly recommend, ONLY if you can handle a challenge.
Opt to take this course online or with a different prof if you are just taking it to get your GE/institutions credit. He makes this course much more difficult and time consuming than it needs to be. That being said, if you are a poly sci major he gives deep lectures.
I signed up to political science like many of you to get the GE done with. Yes, his lectures are long but they aren't boring. His way of teaching is unique and refreshing. This class has taught me more about the real world than ANY other class I have taken in the pass 3 years. It is difficult, you will have to read some but no textbooks!
He's a boss
Despite what you see on here, Dan Faulk's class is seriously amazing. It is truly a class that makes you question a lot and really think critically. Dan is a crazy man who will make you laugh and pretty much says anything uncensored. All grades are from group projects, go to lectures because he will explain everything.
Dan, Dan the man, not too hard but not too easy. Find the right members for group projects and you'll pass
Dan Faulk was the worst teacher of my college career. He is self-obsessed and narcissistic, and constantly berates students. I saw him insult my classmates intellect, and spent a significant amount of time talking about drugs (as well as himself) instead of subject matter.
Not your average lecturer. He's kind of a mad-man, but in a good way. Faulk cares more about your actual learning than about making you jump through pointless hoops.
Dan Faulk teaches you to think. Absolutely never a dull day in his class! He has so many reviews for a reason: He's one of HSU's most noteworthy professors. Yes; you actually have to use your brain to pass his class--welcome to college, friends! :)
