sooooooo easy
so easy and wonderful teacher
second class with DJ. He's a great teacher.
He's really nice and helpful; the class is easy
Fantastic in every way.
Great teacher, quizzes are a little hard but not bad at all. Highly Recommend.
great teacher, very helpful
Awesome teacher. Take good notes and class will be a breeze.
Dr. Finucane is a very kind-hearted person. I would recommend him for his intro class. He makes an effort to learn names. He has several exams, quizzes, and an optional research paper (for an A grade). There are also participation 1 page papers. I've got an A and I hate religion-based learning.
Very good, engaging professor.
I wasn't looking forward to this class at all, but it ended up being one of my favorites.
Loved Finucane. Hes the man. I would recommend him for anyone. My favorite class, even though I don't like theology. Excellent.
He gets good ratings for being a nice guy, and he is, but this class is hard and most kids do not get an A. However if you read and have any common sense it is an A.
He is an awesome guy, so nice! He made the class interesting! You have to work though, not an easy A. Quizzes once a week, and if you study for them, you'll be fine. If you put down something he gives half credit! No midterm, final just all past quizzes and research paper not graded hard.
AMAZING teacher...i LOVED him. Study for the tests and quizzes, as they can get kind of difficult. Teacher engaging and fair, and one of the nicest guys I have ever met. TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES!!!
Classes are very interesting; he does a great job of giving a fair view of Church history (especially 'hot topics' such as the Inquisition). He's a nice guy, and a solid Catholic. Some quizzes can be challenging, but not too hard if you read (not too much to read, but assignments almost every class) and look over his study guides.
Best prof at SLU! Do not graduate before taking one of his courses.
Dr. Finucane is one of the best professors at SLU. He's humorous, friendly, and skilled at making theology relevant. I went into this class with high expectations and I was not disappointed. I'm not Catholic, but my viewpoints were treated with respect. If you want a class you can actually enjoy and apply to your life, take this one! THEO 351-02.
Awsome professor. He did a great job of teaching the introductory material. The class is easy, but you WILL have to work at it and put in a good deal of effort.
I really wasn't interested in taking this class but I love Dr. Finucane. He was a great professor and made the material interesting. He's very open minded and willing to hear different points of view. You have to study for the quizzes and tests but they aren't too bad once you figure out the style. I definitely recommend taking him.
If you can take him, do! He's helpful, dedicated to students, and incredibly open-minded. Lectures are interesting. He even requires an outside one-on-one meeting with each student to get to know you better. Study for the quizzes, and it's easy to get a good grade.
Marriage Theology was one of the most interesting classes I've had at SLU. He made it so relevant and I loved hearing his insights-- DEFINITELY would recommend him!!!!!
GREAT GUY! He is Catholic, but he doesn't push his beliefs on his students. He made sure to make the class very much a THEOLOGY class, not a CHRISTIANITY class. I would strongly recommend him if you are willing to do a bit of work. The class isn't terribly hard, but you certainly can't just breeze through it. You learn a lot though!
Best Theology professor at SLU. He's knowledgable and he's incredibly respectful of students' beliefs, not to mention he's hilarious. Take his class if at all possible!!
Best Theology professor at SLU. He's knowledgable and he's incredibly respectful of students' beliefs, not to mention he's hilarious. Take his class if at all possible!!
If you have the chance to take a class with him DO IT! He is a great teacher, and keeps things interesting. Even though THEO is really boring, he makes it fun. He is also hilarious. 100% Recommend him. Class isn't too hard by any means but it certainly isn't a cake walk. Overall, take his course.
Wow. I heard so many horror stories about Theo 100-but then I had Dr. Finucane. I'm an Aerospace Engineering major, and I LOVED his class. He is a professor I'd visit just to talk to. He respectfully and knowledgeably presents all religions. He is funny, he cares about people, and he just wants you to learn the stuff.
Dr. Finucane lectures often, and there are quizzes every Thursday. If you're willing to do the readings, then the quizzes won't be too bad. You won't get an A unless you do a five-page paper at the end of the semester--so be forewarned! Found him a really good teacher though.
Dr. Finucane is such a nice man! He makes you want to attend class. He genuinely cares for the students. His quizzes are manageable if you study. Take him if you have the opportunity!!!
I highly recommend Dr Finucane!! take him you will not regret it!!!!! Its an easy A if you do all the work he asks you to do, promise!
amazing professor, probably one of the most useful and applicable classes at SLU; class is relaxed and informal, but attending lecture and reading the assigned readings will help solidify the A; HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Marriage & Christian Vocation was one of my favorite classes this semester. It is applicable to life and just interesting. Finucane is an awesome professor. I recommend taking him if you get the chance!! He knows what he's talking about and he also keeps the class fun.
I took him for Marriage and he is the a very nice teacher. He is very understanding and really wants his students to do well. There is a quiz every other week, one research paper, a mid-term and final. The quizzes are strictly from notes and readings and the mid-term and final are from the quizzes. The class is easy as long as you read the text
Speedy grader. Likes discussion and all his quiz and test questions are from the reading. Quiz's have vocab and specific short answer question. Really enjoyed his class.
Great teacher that is super nice. Class is not very hard, no homework just some reading, but you really don't have to do it. quiz every other week on notes and a reflection paper due the off weeks, that is just graded for completeness. Overall one of my favorite teachers ever
Great guy- a little goofy. Must do the readings for the quizzed-the notes he posts on blackboard are EXTREMELY helpful! Wiling to help and offers a lot of extra credit. The research paper isnt bad, and its more of your own opinion. Use the notes on blackboard for the quizzed and exams and you will do great! i recommend him!
FINUCANEEEE!! Best prof ever. One of the best decisions of my life.
Finucane is such a great guy! His class is so interesting and is actually meaningful in life. His view of marriage is obviously based of the Catholic teachings, but he is very much in touch with modern society. Take this class if you can by any means!
He is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about all students. He's funny and somehow makes theo interesting. Quizzes are free response but are pretty easy if you just go to class and take notes. I'm definitely planning on taking his marriage class next semester too...TAKE HIM!!!
Finucane is a pretty awesome professor, not gonna lie. His lectures are interesting and you learn alot. He gives pop quizes about once a week, so make sure to attend class. Midterm wasn't too bad. Skim the book and review notes from class and you should be fine.
Great teacher. Very compassionate and willing to help. Loves discussion. Was impressed with how he handled differing opinions (sometimes offensive opinions) during class.
This is quite possibly the most misleading professor I've ever seen rated. The class wasn't easy, he was rude to me both times I attended office hours. Lectures and tests have no rhyme or reason. The questions are from things he says in lecture that have nothing to do with the real theology. Missed 2 quizzes and dropped me to a B for the semester.
Great guy. Discussions were the best part of class as he really seemed to care about people's opinions and was very open-minded. Midterm and final questions come pretty much straight from the quizzes which are not too bad as long as you pay attention in class.
Dr. Finucane was an amazing addition to my first semester at SLU!! He quickly became my favorite professor. Incredibly open-minded and willing to help. Theo midterm and final can be a little challenging, but there's so much extra credit available that it's hard to not get an A. I recommend his Worldview class if you have to take Crossroads!
The best class I have taken at SLU, I would recommend to all. It is very open and discuss oriented on interesting topics for college students and beyond. It includes a lot of reading, to which one must due to do well, but the readings are mostly intriguing and provide great discussion. He is so nice and there to help, definitely take the class!
This class was definitely not an easy A, you definitely need to read and study, but professor finucane was an awesome teacher, so if you don't mind putting in a little effort then you are good to go.
I took Dr. Finucane off the recommendation of a friend, and never regretted it! THEO 100 (now 1000) was the best class of my semester and despite the class being at 8 AM, it was still really interesting and fun. You definitely should take him if you really want to get something out of the class and have some fun too.
Dr. Finucane is amazing! Highly recommended. He is hilarious and makes class interesting. I will definitely be taking more of his classes in the future. Although it is just intro to religion, you will have to study and look over powerpoints. It requires the average amount of work. But overall one of the best classes I'm in this semester!
He assigns readings, but I have not read one and I still do well in class. He is very nice, and is always willing to meet. He incorporates a lot of stories into his lectures and gives us chances to have group conversations.
BEST EVER. Really funny old man! He makes the lectures very interesting and truly cares about what he is teaching. He clearly loves his job and is willing to help you out if you are struggling.
One of the best Theology professors I have ever had. And that is coming from someone who has been to religious schools their whole life. Finucane is AMAZING! He has awesome lectures and is super funny! The material is straightforward and very easy to comprehend and he is very knowledgeable of the content. Definitely recommend!
He's really helpful and sympathetic towards students who aren't necessarily interested in theology.
He is so cool. Really funny and doesn't expect too much. Although participation MATTERS and he gives POP QUIZZES. But his pop quizzes are pretty vague and he accepts any bull you give him, so no textbook used. Take him if you want an easy B+ or A.
In Professor Finucane's Theology 1000 class the material that was covered throughout the course was overall basic theological ideas and concepts. There were random quizzes throughout the semester in order to maintain attendance, so go to class! As for the tests, there are many questions thrown in from class discussions, so pay attention!
I would definitely recommend Dr Finucane. He's hilarious. He gives study guides for the midterm and final (the only tests) and the questions on the study guide are literally like copy and pasted on to the finals. If you need help, ask him he's always willing to help. Popquizes are so easy, they're basically to make sure people are going to lecture
He is a great guy and keeps the lectures interesting with powerpoints and visual aids. The tests are kind of hard because there is so much to study, and only some of it is actually on the test. There is a lot of reading assigned every week. Powerpoints are on blackboard, but there are sometimes random pop quizzes so it's best to attend class.
Dr. Finucane makes me want to come to class. He never fails to make the class laugh at least once a day. He is so genuine and caring. I respect him and his knowledge. His teaching style is effective. He truly makes me want to be an active member in the class and participate. I enjoy his class, even though it is a required course.
I loved Dan's lectures but attendance is definitely not mandatory. Sometimes there is quizzes though. There's two tests and a few papers, but they are super easy and they give the information needed to do well. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Finucane is the bomb! Hilarious and EXTREMELY inspirational--his lectures are fantastic! He also tells you what will MOST LIKELY (as in expect it) show up on the midterm and final, which are short answer--but don't be alarmed! If you study, its unbelievably easy and straightforward. If you are lucky enough to have him available, TAKE HIM!!!!!
Very kind guy who knows his stuff, for theo 1000 hes a good pick
Really fun teacher and makes lectures interesting. There is A LOT of reading and pop quizzes every 1-2 weeks that come from the readings. PowerPoints are available, but they're the main ideas of the lecture and no detail. You have to attend the lecture to hear him elaborate on the main ideas and go into detail. But overall, really good teacher!
So, attendance is technically mandatory and there is occassionally pop quizzes (which you can literally look up the answers right there) but its easy to skip a lot of these classes and still pass. I have skipped many lectures and I have an A in the class because of so much extra credit. Definitely recommend him! He makes it easy and he's engaging
Amazing class! I thought I was going to hate it but ended up loving it! Only a Midterm and Final and a few short papers. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Finucane is hilarious and I would definitely recommend.
Easiest class ever. A midterm, final, and like five papers of three pages or less. Tons of extra credit too. Plus, his entire midterm and most of his final can be found online on sites like quizlet and studyblue. I never did any of the assigned readings, and I barely missed a point all semester. Easy A. Great for boosting the GPA.
He is one of the nicest guys i have met. Very caring about his students and very insightful with out being cheesy. Very down to earth and likes teaching. I would take him again, just a overall really nice guy and good professor.
Dr. Finucane teaches like he's telling a story, which makes the material easier to remember and much more interesting. I actually learned about theology, not the textbook, upper-level info that a lot of other professors make their students learn. He actually wants us to learn and cares about his students so much.
I took the Foundations class with Finucane and I enjoyed my class even at 8am. He has a wonderful personality that you get a lot of during the lectures. He makes things personal with awesome stories about his family and his life. He makes you put in some work but I retained and learned so much from this class. Works with you and cares about you.
Finucane is the bomb! He is awesome at keeping you engaged, and isn't afraid to push aside the syllabus to talk about relevant topics that relate to theology. You really do have to study for his quizzes and tests, they're not easy, but he allows so much extra credit, you can earn it back no problem.
Overall, Dr. Finucane is a kind hearted, brilliant, and cheerful man. Given the chance, I would take another course with him in a heartbeat. He lives up to his hype. Blessed, do it!
Dr. Finucane is honestly one of my favorite teachers from SLU. He genuinely cares about everyone of his students and wants to see them succeed. He learns the name of every student, and is just an all around awesome teacher.
Finucane is the MAN. He is the guy you want to take for an easy A. His class is based around four quizzes, a paper, a midterm and a uncumulative final. No homework. He either gave paper review or blackboard review, making the quizzes easy. TONS of impactful extra credit offered. Attendance is important but not necessarily required. Very kind person
One of the best teachers I have ever had!!!!
I love this man! He is so, so nice and really funny. He is really good at making his lectures accessible to people who are Catholic and non-Catholic, so if youre not religious, youll be okay. His class is pretty straightforward and he genuinely wants you to do well. Highly recommend him!!!
I highly recommend taking Dr. Finucane if you get the chance! I loved coming to his class even at 8am on MWF. He makes lecture intriguing and has a true heart for Theology. He also is a very easy grader and just wants his students to do well and show a little bit of insight into their lives! Definitely one of my favorite SLU professors!
Dan is awesome. He gave fantastic feedback on all our writing assignments, and had really interactive lectures. He's open to new ideas and respects his students for sharing theirs. I would recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Finucane is hands down one of the best teachers that I've ever had. He cares so much about his students, and really goes out of his way to get to know everyone, and make sure that everyone is able to succeed in the class. Quizzes once a week, but totally doable if you review in-class notes. Papers were straightforward. Midterm/final were fine!
Dr. Finucane is by far my favorite professor at SLU - and I'm not even a theology major. I had to take an incomplete my first semester, and he continued to help me through the second by sort of independent study. He put time and energy to help me succeed because he sees the best in his students. He is a down to earth guy and super easy to talk to.
Dr. Finucane is a great professor! Theology can be boring (in my humble opinion) but he makes it interesting and will insert a joke here and there. Attendance is taken, and being in class is crucial since test material comes from lectures and readings. The tests can be a bit challenging since they are all free-response and rely on what you read.
An incredibly kind, good-spirited, intellectual, and hilarious soul. He was very accommodating to me during a time of mental and family crisis- he's very flexible with grading and assignments if you work with him, and he is always there to help you. He does tend to assign a lot of independent reading, but overall workload was very manageable.
Professor Finucane is amazing and his class is always interesting. Get ready to read some really fascinating books and have thought-provoking discussions with your peers. Easy A as long as you participate and put some effort into writing the essays/reflections.
This was one of my favorite classes that I have ever taken at SLU. Prof Finucane was super nice and made the lectures fun and interesting There are quizzes that are based on lectures/reading that are really easy if you pay attention. At the end of the class there is a research paper and he allows you to choose a topic that was covered in class.
This is the sweetest man ever, and I mean ever. Thoughtful, understanding, and a great Honors Intro to Theo professor. If you ever get a chance, take his class. Even better - it's very minimal effort for an A. He is VERY lenient on his quizzes. They were every week, but nothing overwhelming ever!!!! Recommend to everyone at SLU
A very caring and dedicated professor, and very in tune to the mental health needs of his students. Truly one of the best- I very much enjoyed his class. The quizzes were the hardest part, but honestly he is an easy grader and often hints to certain questions you may have beforehand.
Dr. Finucane is a great professor and is always super efficient on grading and commenting the assignments. He may be a bit unorganized sometimes, but he reorganize everything very quickly.
EASY A FOR THE HONORS CROSSROADS CLASS. Just do well on the reflections. You dont have to actually read the books, just spark note and youll be fine. Make sure youre caught up with the syllabus, because he does give reading quizzes(3-4 basic questions on the plot) every 1-2 weeks. Participate at least once a week in class. EASY A
Really an amazing professor and cares about the people in his class. The class was pretty easy. I didn't do any of the readings and did pretty well but I was raised in the church so that might contribute. He does take attendance but is very understanding if you can't make class due to medical reasons. He had weekly quizzes and multiple short papers
Professor Finucane is so nice and funny! Easy class with a few papers and easy weekly quizzes. I really recommend Finucane!
Professor Finucane is the nicest professor I have had so far. He is willing to let you make up work or turn things in late with a valid excuse. He is super open and invites everyone to share their thoughts and experiences. He also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities to attend. Readings, weekly quizzes, 5 reflection papers and 2 exams.
Took for my ignite seminar and was a very interesting class. There was readings for each class, small "pop quizzes" every other week or so (easy if you do the readings), there was also 5 or so short reflection papers which he gives supportive feedback on, and there is a final reflection paper and exam. Super great guy with funny stories.
I took him again because I loved his intro class, and I can never praise him enough. He is such a good professor, is fair, engages you. Even being gay, his Christian Marriage class was phenomenal. He is always wanting to learn and love, everything feels like it matters, and it's really not hard if you just put an effort forward. 100/10.
I don't usually leave reviews on here but I love this man with my whole heart. Wasn't super excited about a Christian marriage course but he made me excited to come to class every day. Readings aren't necessary but they do help. Quizzes and reflections are easy. Super caring, hilarious, and has a big heart. I'll miss Dan :(
Dr. Finucane is a gem. He is caring, passionate about theology, and doesn't care if you're Christian or not. He is hilarious as well. I learned a lot, and it was still a fairly easy class. Would highly recommend. LOVE Dr. Finucane
Dan is so amazing. He's respectful of people from other religions and is very knowledgeable about other religions outside of Christianity/Catholicism. He's funny, however, lectures can be dry because it's about religion, but he tries his best to keep it engaging. Small quizzes most weeks that are easy if you go to class/read. Couple of easy papers
Dan is honestly one of the best professors I've had at SLU. I dreaded taking Marriage and Christian Vocation, but I actually ended up looking forward to going to his class. There's quizzes and reflections every other week that are pretty easy. The reading materials he provides isn't super necessary as the stuff on quizzes is discussed in class.
Lots of quizzes (30% of grade) and exams (2 exams worth total 40%). You have to read all of the readings if you want to do well so skip this professor if you want easy credits. Studying isn't really easy as he will ask about random small details from the readings. Attendance is also mandatory.
Love Dan, he's amazing. You don't even need to do the readings because he lectures about them so well and if you show him your notes he will tell you what is on the quizzes and the answers. Posts really detailed study guides for exams (2 total), one page reflection papers 4-5 total, One 5 page final paper. Super easy class, amazing professor!
He was an amazing professor. Very open to new ideas and treated everyone with respect. Up to 3 unexcused absences allowed, but if you let him know before class about something, it was excused. He was very accommodating. Weekly quizzes, a few papers, and 2 exams. I found that everything on quizzes, he writes on the board, so write those down.
Finucane keeps the class engaging, even on dry theology topics. Quizzes and reflections are manageable if you do the readings. Unstuck AI is great for prepping, along with the free textbook. Overall, a solid class worth taking.
If you show up to classes, pay attention, and take notes, that's basically all you need to succeed in his class. The quizzes are pretty easy. You can skate by without doing the readings. It's a very chill environment, but it can get a little boring. The midterm and final are basically a combo of the quizzes with a little extra info.
I mean this in the most respectful way but he definitely gives off big grandpa energy. He doesn't use canvas unfortunately. He tells you exactly what will be on the quiz which seemed to be every Friday, so long as you show up and take notes you'll pass the quiz. You can talk to him about almost anything before, during or after class.
He was great!
Dr. Finucane is truly an amazing professor. He is caring, passionate, and dedicated to his students. You have quizzes mostly every week, but just be sure to take notes on what he lectures in class. Pay attention to him because he deserves respect. He's the best!!
It's a really easy class to take regardless of what religion you are. He's very open minded and his assignments are easy. His exams and quizzes are really straight forward and easy to study for. If you need to take a theology class his is good and easy.
