boring prof...hard to pay attention to
VERY helpful, along with hard tests
good and funny prof, take him
Funny and sexy prof, Easy class take it
great professor--best i've ever taken. very helpful. funny............sometimes.

Good Prof, funny guy...gives out pop sometimes too!
Exams can be tricky and lectures run long. Overall good prof
A slick prof, funny, smart, and extremely fast
Great guy, very helpful, energetic about his job!

fair tests/quizes, very very helpful, overall great teacher
I had him for a 3 hour class, and he kept it interesting every time. Great prof

One of my favorite Profs yet. Very helpful, nice, considerate, funny; take him!!
great prof. very helpful and inteligent, enjoyed my time in his class
i hated econ before i took this - he made it bearable, class isn't too hard
Dan is the man. he's cool. take this class.
He's new and he knows how to teach.

Very nice guy, easy class/tests/noprojects
What can I say about Dan the man? His class was fun and I learned a ton. (didnt mean to rhyme)
interesting, spoke from experience, knowledgeable, good guy, Take him for this class; goto class, pay attention, and take half way decent notes and you'll do fine
hard tests. when grading it is right or wrong, no partial credit given. do the projet though, helps to make up for the bad test grades.
Dr.Dan is a great professor and is one of the best at Grand Valley. He loves Econ and is shows. Study notes, do the project and you'll get an A.
Dan is possibly the best Prof. at GVSU. He is interesting, funny, and he loves to teach. The material isn't always easy, but it's up to you if you want to study and get and an A. Go to class!
Giedeman taught me a ton. I learned a lot from all of his experience. awesome prof.
Great class, I like Dan a lot, he's very smart and knows this stuff like the back of his hand. He gives his whole lecture without looking at a note or anything, knows all the definitions by heart!
Great professor. Explains material from many angles so each student has an understanding. Helpful and knowledgeable of every subject. Always offering to help. Go to class, take notes, and do the exam review questions and you should do fine.
This guy is the man. 3 Tests & A Final so not alot to grade off of but he teaches the material well and uses different views to make sure everyone understands it.
Excellent professor! Would recommend him to anyone - just make sure you don't skip class - it's not the easiest stuff.
He's awesome!
Makes the class really simple. Spoonfeeds you exactly what's on the tests. As long as you understand what's going on in class, and he tries to make sure everyone does, it should be an easy A.
Dan is a great professor. The material itself is difficult, so make sure you do the paper! All in all, I didn't enjoy the class but I enjoyed the teacher.
He's hot but that's not what matters while you're taking the class. However, in his case, teaching via the TV didn't help much. He's nice and is willing to help you out though.
The class starts out as a basic review and is quite simple. However, come midterm prepare to memorize huge amounts of material. Prof tends to overexplain things a bit too.
talks 50mph and cocky. take alot of notes. if u want to pass exams go to his optional study sessions outside of class, they help alot!
Very helpful, makes lectures relatively humorous, tests based on lectures. Would recommend
The class is not that hard. I just did not put forth any effort.
This instructor wasn't bad, make sure you attend class and take good notes. Brush up on long division, he won't let you use a calculator.
Dan rocks! He's a great prof! He can get a little side tracked but just take good notes and study and you'll do fine. Don't buy the book, just go to class. He tells ya everything you need to know. One down side is that you can't use a calculator.
Dan is an AWESOME ECO teacher. I got a D+ in a previous ECO class with a different teacher, and I got an A- in his class. He is super nice. Tests are from notes. Show up to class and take good notes and you will do great. I would highly recommend Dan.
Tests come from notes, but the class is SO BORING! I studied for the tests, and still didn't do well, but I hate Econ. so take my opinion for what's its worth.
Class is a bore buts its econ. tries to make it intersting and succeeds somewhat. Willing to help outside of class. No calculators are allowed on tests. It was my favorite class until I bombed the tests. Good luck.
He is a young guy without any real life experience. Yet, is the the most arrogant professor I have ever taken. There are many other profs with real experience who do not have such a big head. Also, he is not cute! He's a chubby little guy!
Pretty straight forward. Rambles a bit. Never used the book - studied straight from the lecture notes. One project, no papers. No calculators on test (but tests are easy). If you show up and study, you will get an A.
He si a great teacher. If you go to him with question he will help you a lot. Don't buy book I never used mine. Exams are straight from lecture notes. If you need an economic class take this one.
Giedeman is a pretty good professor. I would, however, recommend buying the book. He says that he doesn't count attendance, but if you don't show up every now and then he will take notice. Tests aren't that bad, it's the quizzes that tend to be confusing. Make sure to take lots of notes.
Nice guy. Comes across as cocky. The online quizzes are almost impossible but he will drop them if you do well on the exams. His grading seems fair and honestly wants his students to do well.
Class is relatively difficult. Online quizes are impossible. One of the most arrogant professors I have come across. Never uses the book or deoderant. He will make everything sound a lot harder than it really is. Don't take him!
EASY!!!He is funny sometimes, which makes it easier to sit through class. Take notes don't buy the book, it is way too expensive for the use it will get.
Tests aren't too bad but the quizzes can be difficult. They're online and he gives you an hour to do them so if you take your time, you'll be fine (it's like 10 - 20 questions). If you go to class, the class become a lot easier.
Quizzes are difficult but overall a good class to take if you are good at doing math in your head. He doesn't allow calculators on the quiz or the test. Don't try to come up with excuses for missing a quiz or a test he will check up on your excuse.
Giedeman is probably a nice person, but he NEEDS to work on his people skills. He has very annoying habits, such as scratching the back of his head and hitting his thigh with his fist and always talks like he is yelling. If you ask a question in class you will be ridiculed. Study review problems!
Great Prof. Study Practice test and try to understand the quiz material and you should do fine. Very helpful and breaks things down to 1st graders level.
Quite the chatterbox! Nice guy but class is ridiculous. Study the review problems for tests!
hes ok... he is kind of a prick sometimes, but its just his personality. and yeah he does kinda yell, and he gets frustrated when students dont understand something he explains.... just make sure you study for the tests and go to class
He's not "cocky" - he's realistic. His "cockiness" is an accurate portrayal of the real world and I hail him for exposing students to that. He's not a jerk, he's actually quite funny. If you need an upper-level business class, take this one. It's worth it.
He thinks quite highly of himself and will talk down on you. I don't find his "make your students feel like idiots" approach to education to be very effective. Take someone else!
Dan is the man as long as you don't have him for a 6-9. He's the only prof at Grand Valley that actually believes in keeping us the whole time! Good class though. Do the practice quizzes and you'll be okay. Don't have to buy the book!
Don't take him for 210. There are much easier profs, but for 365 he's awesome. Teaches upper level classes like upper level classes should be taught. Very good prof, very helpful and hardly ever boring.
Good structure to the class. He is somewhat conceited, and is never wrong. Even so, take him for ECO 365, and read the articles and you'll do fine.
This class was always interesting - there is no way you can come out of this course without having learned something of value.
This class was awesome. He should be the one teaching it all the time. We had no textbook, which totally makes you appreciate other books, and articles. Learned lots of stuff, made me happy and by far not borring like other classes could be. Take him, he does this one well!
Class was very interesting. Dan is a good teacher. His tests however are pretty difficult.
Dan is interesting. He's passionate about Economics and knows his stuff, he's just a bit disorganized during lecture. Oftentimes he has to explain a concept a few times because he goes through it like lightning the first time, effectively confusing the heck out of students. No calculators on his tests--he wants you to relearn long division.
he talks fast! but is willing to go over any questions you have about the material. Sometimes he's a dick and will make you feel inferior but overall I learned alot. his test are hard. study alot, read the book, he likes to ask questions from it without discussing it
He is the best teacher i have had yet at GVSU. If you can get him then do it. He keeps the classes attention and makes class enjoyable. Class was easy if you have common sense.
Giedeman explains the same things 2 or 3 different times in different ways, but none make sense. Talks super fast. It's a lot of work. Cool guy though.
Really nice guy and knows his stuff, but he's pretty hard to follow in class. He'll talk too fast for you to keep up in your notes sometimes. Quizzes are very hard, but he posts old quizzes and midterms on BB so always print those out and do them ahead of time and you should be alright. The extra papers REALLY boost your grade!
He rambles on in class so its almost impossible to understand what hes saying. His handwriting is very difficult to read so gettin all the notes is tough. Hes a very nice guy but I never went to one class and studied my ass off and I got a C. So if you want to get a good grade I would pick a different teacher.
He can be an ass at times but knows what he is talking about. Tests can be hard. Make sure you read the chapters at least for the first 3 tests. Write the optional paper. If you don't you are screwed. If you get confused go to his office hours. He is very willing to help and he can clear up any confusion you may have very easily.

He's a good professor who knows his stuff. He gives great examples to help understand concepts. If you do well on the exams, there's no point in writing the paper because the final wasn't that hard. No quizzes, so your grade is only based on exams (and the paper if you choose to write it). Good class, good professor. Take him!
Lectures were mostly interesting as far as economics goes. I would recommend going to class and reading the book. He slips some questions only from the reading on tests sometimes.
He's a great prof. The information discussed in class was really interesting. I learned a lot from this class and really recommend taking it.
Great class. I wasn't thrilled with my grade but I'm still glad I took the class. Discussions are interesting and Giedeman is very knowledgable. A lot of reading.
He is a pretty good guy. I'd take him for another class. Probably not going to get much better for a macro class. He writes everything on the board, and just study that material, as well as review the book before the test.
Had him for ECO 210 & 365. Presents the material well and knows what he is talking about it. Good guy who will explain things again if needed or help you outside of class.
great class, learned alot, alot of reading, very helpful outside of class, i am taking him again
Great professor -- especially if you have little to no background in economics. Lectures are clear and organized -- he writes everything on the board and is willing to make sure ever student succeeds. Has optional term paper to help boost grade.
A real funny guy! Dont skip class because he teaches a things a bit differently than the book does. Study hard and get help!
Very funny guy!!! Class is pretty straight-forward but gets harder at the end so make sure you keep up!
A great professor, clear and concise. What he teaches, is what he tests on... basically... go to class, take notes and study those... and your guaranteed a good grade.
Dan could very well be the son of the "Hot Wheels" speedtalker from the 90's. He talks waaaay fast. His handwriting is atrocious, make sure to get a seat close to the front. His quizzes are difficult, make sure you study the old ones that he posts. Write the term paper, you'll be happy with your grade in the end! Overall a great guy!
One of the best profs I have ever had. I liked how he wrote out definitions instead of just putting up a powerpoint. It made it a lot easier to keep up with him. He used funny examples that you won't forget. He offers an optional paper (10 pgs) that can replace a test score or make your final worth less. Make sure you read online articles!
The professor's lectures are exciting and memorable. Dan is very well versed in his field. Highly recommended.
He is a very knowledgeable professor! He shows the a lot of interest in the subject he teaches, the care he has for his students and their success - he does talk fast but it makes alot of Economic subjects interesting. If you want to aim for success and dislike boring traditional lectures - Dan is your man!
Don't bother to buy the book, I never so much as opened it. If you attend every class and take good notes, that's all you'll need. Class progressively gets harder, so be prepared to put in the hours necessary. Economic model practice is a must.
He is the best ECO professor. I am taking him this semester and he is very knowledged, and I heard that all other Econ professors aks him questions all the time. No wonder, my other Eco professors were horrible. Dan u rock
There is no textbook required. There are some tests that if you use the information from his powerpoints and really MEMORIZE everything then you should do fine. There is a small 15 minute group presentation but be prepared to answer questions from the class (that is how class participation is determined). Also, there is a book report. Overall good
Within two class periods Professor Giedeman accurately and exhaustively recapitulated what and how the financial crisis of 2008 was realized. Something that has taken most months to understand and quantify. As the semester progressed, his brilliance became more and more apparent. Book was only used as supplementary exam study tool.
When he lectures he talks at a million words a second. His tests suck. A majority of the questions on the tests are tricky like "Which one is NOT right" etc. If the questions were straightforward, the tests would be much easier. He doesn't care if you go to class or not and doesn't care about each individual student. I would never take him again.
He is a smart guy, but seriously his tests are ridiculous! Can sometimes be a bit harsh, and practice tests are nothing like the real thing. Don't buy the book cause his tests are completely subjective and written from what HE thinks! Blah, so glad i'm done with him.
He was really nice, although he talks extremely fast hes clear on what he wants you to know. If you want to learn anything about economics take him.
Giedeman kept class interesting. It was cool that he explained what was happening in the real economy right now (especially since that stuff was not covered in the textbook). Exams aren't easy, but the practice problems helped. I'd take him again.
Great professor. Went off topic a few times but he covers all the material on the tests. Just pay attention in lecture and do the test reviews and you will get at least a B with minimum effort
Very Good Professor, I didn't think he talked too fast at all. Quizzes were not tough at all, because he gives you quizzes to look at from his previous semesters. I deff recommend taking Giedeman for any class.
You dont have to go to class, he posts all of the powerpoints online. He uses really entertaining examples and is very enthusiastic about economics. He def. knows what he's talking about. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. I never opened it once so don't waste your money. Exam questions are based off of powerpoints and practice problems. I would recommend him.
Good professor, he really knows his stuff. His tests are really hard and are mostly short answer. I would take him again.
He was entertaining. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. I didn't open it once. He was a little confusing, tests weren't too bad. I ended up with a C in the class and went on average once a week for 50 minutes. If you attend more classes, you'll do well.
Great teacher, take this class if you are interested in finance or econ. I'm not really interested in banking and I still took away a lot from this class. Just take notes and look at the practice test/quiz problems he puts on Bb and your set. Attendance is not mandatory but is really beneficial for tests.
Awesome professor. Knows his stuff! Follow the sample questions he gives you from previous tests and you'll do fine. Great guy, always willing to help!
GREAT PROF! He is so knowledgeable and interesting and the best econ professor I have ever had. I would recommend him to anyone. The class was great and I wish I could have taken more classes with him.
DON'T buy the book! Great guy! Does his best to keep economics interesting, knows a lot about the topics covered! What he teaches is exactly what's on the exams. Going to class helps a lot, but doesn't take attendance. Speak up and ask questions in class, he loves it. I'd recommend him/take him again. Exams aren't impossible, but study for a while!
Typical lecture class. Can be really boring because he gets on tangents a lot. Slightly full of himself, but he does seem to really know his stuff. Tests are difficult but nothing ridiculous if you study.
Great professor, lectures got boring at times but it's ECO so that is easy to happen. He is very sarcastic, which I loved. The tests and quizes are hard, be sure to study hard!
Giedeman is a great professor! He is quirky and talks very fast so go to class and stay awake. He's very understanding and willing to admit mistakes and isn't a tricky test writer. I learned a lot and enjoyed this class. The honors section has a few extra projects but otherwise is similar to the regular course and isn't that challenging.
A GOOD INSTRUCTOR OVERALL. A BIT TOO MUCH WEIGHT PUT INTO THE FINAL (33%) FOR THE SUMMER COURSE. DID NOT MAKE REAL CLEAR HOW MUCH OF ONE CHAPTER THAT WE COVERED VERY LITTLE OF WOULD BE ON EXAM. BUT... HE ISN'T THAT BAT AT ALL.
Good Instructor. He really knows his stuff! He was also a great help to me throughout the semester. Take him if you interested in learning, but it is not a fluff course by any stretch.
Interesting Class. Cool Prof.
Giedman is a very intelligent and helpful professor. I am definitely happy I ended up taking him for this course. He speaks fast at times, but will answer and fully elaborate on any questions. Good availability too. If you go to class and study the slide shows and practice problems before the exams you'll be good. Solid professor overall
Very good class and professor Giedeman is great. Has a group project and book analysis but not too tough if you put enough work into it. Overall learned a lot in this class.
Interesting class, he talks really fast, and his tests are decent. do the old study guide for exams/quizzes and ask questions on them. ASK QUESTIONS ON THEM BEFORE THE EXAM WHEN HE GIVES YOU TIME! not very demanding class. just show up, take good notes. 4 exams optional extra credit paper
Great Prof all around and very interesting person to talk to
His lectures are really interesting! The 1:15 min lecture flies by. He knows his stuff and is entertaining while still learning a lot.
No textbook, which is awesome. After the first class I almost dropped because I thought the information was too fast paced. I'm glad I stuck it out because I have learned so much and it gets easier as the course continues. This class is simply great. Use his office hours! He is happy to help and explain anything you don't understand.
Makes Econ fun. I found him entertaining. If you love structure and dry instructors you might find him all over the place, but thats what I enjoyed about him he allows for his personality to show and what he is passionate about
Good Professor
Giedeman knows his stuff but wow his exams are difficult. He provides study guides which are helpful but you must know information beyond that. Only two exams and two papers sounds easy but its backloaded at the end of the semester so you feel like you're drowning. His exams were challenging but the lectures were interesting and I learned a lot.
Attendance was not mandatory, and he does not believe in making his students by overly expensive textbooks so I was able to return my book after the first class. Posts all powerpoints and practice exams which he gets all his exam questions from. There is no homework, just the exams and an optional paper to help your grade if you bombed something.
Really easy class. There was never any homework and only 2 tests, the final, and 2 papers (one of which was optional) highly recommend!
Professor Giedeman provides great explanations for everything he goes over in class. Study guides are very helpful for tests, but make sure to study.
Ughhhh.... so this is the lowest grade I've ever got in my college career, but that is mostly because I suck at econ. Professor Giedeman is a pretty awesome professor and always kept lectures interesting even though the material is pretty dry. This class is test heavy (it is all you are graded on) but he does apply substantial curves usually
Very hard exams! If you are looking for an easy intro macro class, don't take him.
I found the material kind of hard to learn being it was online. I was worried he was going to make the class very calculation based, but instead it was more concept-based.
Solid professor. His lectures go over the important stuff he wants you to know and he's always willing to answer a question. a lot of the material can be confusing and he doesn't spend a whole lot of time on it in class, but he does give out a study guide for the exams.
Don't take him! His tests are very tricky and none of the questions are simple. They involve much more in depth learning. Tests are the majority of the grade, with barely any homework or other grade boosters. Definitely would not take again.
Did not really teach the Econ material for this macroeconomics course. I took it as a hybrid and there was hardly anything we were asked to do outside of class or even for that 3rd credit hour of the week. He spent way too much time going over unnecessary material like the financial crisis.
Daniel is a very skilled economist. He is almost like a robot he knows so much. He does not give any homework at all except for two connect quizzes. He lectures every single class except for exam days. 2 exams with 1 final. One big project. You can pass the class without attending class but you'll get a lower grade since there aren't alot of points
The only grades he gives are from 3 tests and 2 quizzes and each test is 30% of your grade, so if you don't do well on the tests then you're kind of screwed. Very lecture heavy class and also very boring. He also didn't post any grades on blackboard so it was hard to calculate what I got until I saw it on banner after the semester ended.
I give him a lot of credit because he made a subject like microeconomics really interesting. He also was able to explain it in a way that made a lot of sense and not too challenging. Did not think he was too hard of a grader, and overall really enjoyed his lectures. Would advise any business students to take him because he was very good.
Professor G is an amazing human being. He genuinely cares if his students learn the material and makes class a place where you are encouraged to ask questions. He also responds very quickly to emails/texts and is more than willing to help you if you are struggling!
Most of the lectures were pretty boring, a few of the notes videos were really long but manageable to get done. Your grade consisted of mostly tests and quizzes and a couple of other assignments sprinkled in, so you have to do really good on those assessments. He was a good guy but really difficult class for just a gen ed issues requirement.
The online course for this had no attendance requirements. Prof is very easy going, is open to feedback, and shows he cares for his students. Busy work is a minimum, and the content can be tricky. Lectures are good for them being about economics, and sometimes curves tests and quizzes if the class somehow doesn't do well.
This class for me was asynchronous, but Professor Giedeman was always ready to respond to his students when they needed help. He answered emails fast, and also had a group me set up. His class was very organized, which is hard to come by with online classes. The due dates were on blackboard, and he gave warnings on when things were due. good prof
Professor Giedeman was such an excellent professor. I have hated all the ECO classes at GVSU but he made this one very interesting with his knowledge and care for the subject matter. Exams are very difficult however, I did not mind because I truly learned a lot in this class, so I say screw the grade, the knowledge from lectures will pay off.
Dan Giederman is a top econ prof at GVSU. He is very smart and clearly understands what he is teaching on. He pretty much built the course himself and you can tell he enjoys teaching it. One of the best econ electives to take at GV.
Great lectures. Attend all classes, take notes and you'll pass no problem. Best econ class to take for issues credit. His stories are a bit silly sometimes but he makes the material bearable.
will do nothing but draw graphs all class period. makes you pay for mcgraw hill to take 7-8 quizzes and thats it. hes a cool guy and his exams are a little challenging. i dont think taking him at 830 helped but paying attention is excruciatingly difficult becuase its so boring.
He is a good Professor to take. Lecture is easy to understand as he tells you many stories. Group Project is pretty easy with interesting topics.
This class was an absolute joke. Not only is this class a repeat of most economic concepts you would already know by this point, but the professor just reads off the slides he made over COVID. This professor is lazy and does not provide much content online. If you have to take this class, you do not need to waste your time going to the lectures.
He is amazing person and professor. He really cares about teaching and making sure you understand the material, as he knows not everyone is an ECON major. I have had him twice now and I really enjoy his class.
Homework, and weekly quizzes. They weren't hard, non-proctored which made them easier. Some of the homeworks could be difficult, but if you watch his recordings they were no problem.
Professor Giedeman makes this econ class bearable with his engaging stories. Attend lectures, take notes, and use resources like unstuck study to stay on top of the material. Exams can be tricky, but you'll learn a lot.
He is genuinely a decent professor. There is nothing besides 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and the group project. The class is kind of review, but most of economics is after the basics. He is really fair with his grading criteria and his quizzes/exams were open-note. I liked that he didnt enforce attendance as well. Great professor, I just dont like econ
Prof Dan is great, he's so enthusiastic about economics and has a real passion for it. 2 exams, 2 quizzes and a group project for the class are the only things that are graded. Every class is a long lecture but he provides his slides online so attendance is not mandatory. He is so incredibly nice and caring- definitely take him for this course.
Prof. Giedeman was a great guy. There is literally no homework outside of maybe a single reading, group project, and 2 tests and 2 quizzes. He is very laid back and knows his stuff. I do think he has more important things to worry about so the class itself was very manageable. Highly recommend, very solid dude.
Great professor; totally knows what he's talking about and doesn't need a million textbooks to prove his points. Would definitely take again.
Professor Giedeman is an awesome dude. Very knowledgeable on what he's teaching. A few quizzes and exams. One large assignment and a group project. Would totally take again.
Dr. Giedeman knows his materials in and out and is ready to discuss anything brought up in class in more depth. He has very interesting stories and makes the class enjoyable. For a class that compares and contrasts communism and capitalism, it is actually quite interesting. Any comments saying otherwise about Giedeman are salty and did not try.
