He doesn’t necessarily have the greatest taste in literature, but he’s a fair and flexible teacher.

Dan was a good English teacher. He was very excited about his subject which made the class more fun. Unlike many English teachers who think that things are only how THEY see them, he was open to personal interpretations . I recommend him. good teacher.

Great teacher, very informative and flexible. He understands that life happens!

This was pretty much the easiest class that I have ever taken. It was an online class, and we basically read a few short pieces and wrote 5 essays that were about 500 words a piece. Very easy, and I would recommend this teacher. I liked his taste in literature and found the stories interesting. He also grades fairly easily.

Has a very good online class

Dan's a really nice guy who likes his English. I liked the class and his choice of literature. I took him in the evenings, and I don't know if he was sometimes worn out from the day, but at times he could be a little...moody. Other than that, he's a great teacher and I'd recommend him.

Was a very easy class. However, I took it to gain some experiance in writing and to recieve real critiques, and his only comments were "great job!" "I liked..." So, not very helpful for my purpose.

We use class time productively. He's big on lateness- he gets pissed when people are late and stops that class to say that the late person is rude. However, you can see his passion for english. He loves it.

I've never seen him tell a late person that they're rude!! This class has been one of the best English classes I've ever taken. He takes a lot of time to help each person and he makes the class interesting. You can tell that he wants you to do well. I definitely recommend him!

Hurley was awesome! He was vey helpful if anyone expressed a need, was always understanding of obstacles or problems, and kept class interesting. Hes funny and smart and was fantastic.

Interesting assignments. but you have to put in the effort. Got an A+, but you really have to do everything he asks.

Best English teacher there is at EdCC, hands down. He assigns a good reasonable amount of work. Just gotta keep up, and everything will be FINE! Clarity lacks sometimes, but are brought to attension right away. The essay due date extensions MAKE UP FOR IT!! Been in his 105, got a 3.8. Been in his online 205, got a 4.0 baby!!

He was a great professor! Easy grader and was pretty helpful. He understands that sometimes things happen and that his class isn't always the most important thing and gives extensions sometimes when life happens. Would TOTALLY recommend this professor!

Hurley is da man; a little lazy but hes funny

Dan is a great professor. He is funny and makes class fun. He explains things thoroughly and is very clear. Easy grader but you have to do the work. Not too much work though. Really disliked English prior to this class but Dan made me realize it is not so bad. I highly suggest this professor.

Dan is an awesome professor! I took ENG101 and ENG102 from him and loved/passed both with ease! Yes, he doesn't make everything clear all of the time but his style is so much easier than most english teachers. He involves everyone and overall his classes are great!

He is probably the best online teacher i have ever had. He was very understanding and very cooperative. He was always there to help and his response was prompt. Little slow in grading assignments but vry fair in grading. I loved writing essays for the first time ever. He is vry nice in such that he extends deadlines if we hv some legitimate problem

Dan's a great teacher! He has an awesome sense of humor, and he's very laid back. It's easy to persuade him to push back essay due dates. I took his hybrid class, and we used BlackBoard minimally. He's a slow grader, so expect your papers back two days later than what he says. He always calls on his students, which might be a problem if you're shy.

Hurley was a great teacher. Very laid-back and nice. His assignments were difficult, but his grading was lenient to make up for it. I would recommend taking English with him.

He is great with grading and a little too easy with turning in papers. Our books were relatively cheap (like $75 for all) and the class was easy going. I did notice a slight negative bias with foreign students (correcting grammar and making them read out loud more then others)but overall the class was okay. He does tend to ramble though.

Good teacher, took his online class. takes awhile to grade stuff but got good grades when he did grade it. Middle amount of work but not overwhelming at all. I Would take another class from him if needed.

Some people been saying they have been marked down for "disagreed with his viewpoints" I feel this is 100% wrong as all I did in class, and all my papers disagreed with his viewpoints because that's the type of person I am. 3.0 in the class and enjoyed most of the class. Maybe some of you that disagree are just mean.

He is such a nice old guy. He will help you as much as he can. He is funny and friendly and so easy to talk to. His only problem is that he forgets easily.

Online class. Organized. Fair amount of works. I liked how he reminded/scheduled/stated information. This is good online class to take. BUT since 3/4 quarter, he seems to be lazy of grading. Just turn in the late work, without notifying him.

I took class nonlinear and it was very organized and focused. I really liked his contents and teaching style. It was a beneficial class overall.

Hurley is a really good teacher. He'll start off class really worried about how much we have to get done but will end up wasting some time making really bad jokes, Hurley then proceeds to cram what's left to talk about into the time that's left. The homework load really isn't that much, pretty average, and is fairly easy. I really liked him.

This teacher is probably one of the more better English teachers at this college. He cares for improvement and wants his students to succeed. Took him for 101 as well. He doesn't give too much homework, but make sure you stay on track with your assignments! He'll sometimes extend assignments to make sure everyone gets a change to get a good grade.

He's a fair grader, but not too picky. If you put enough thought and effort in you paper and homework, he would give you the fine grade. He grades the assignments little late, but he generously accepts overdue assignments as well. So, don't give up! Submit all assignments and do your best on the final paper. You'll get the fine grade.

Absolutely hate writing papers/essays. He gives reading materials that are pretty tough to get "help" with online. You really have to do the paper on your own. For someone who really can't write an essay, he made the class pretty easy. He's funny and tends to go off topic sometimes but that helps the time pass faster. total of 3 essay all quarter.

Best teacher ever!!! So nice, so helpful, I made sure I took English 102 with him after I took English 101 with him. He's really funny and really understanding. One of my top 3 favorite teachers I've had ever, for sure.

I loved Dan, easy class, only 3 essay over the quarter, and that's pretty much it .

Mr. Hurley was by far my favorite teacher at edmonds! He is so funny and you can tell cares about his students and their grades. Taking his Eng101 class was amazing, he assigns three essays over the quarter and lets you redo the first two for a entirely new grade if you dont like the original grade. By far the best class ive taken.

English 111 was a discussion-based class; participate once a week and all's good. Reading responses due weekly but write a fair amount and full points are given. Attendance is completely optional, many students only came once a week, but the final is much easier if you listen in class. 2hr class leave early. Highly recommend for any English class

Mr. Hurley is a really great teacher. He is able to pinpoint where people struggle and respectfully explain how they can improve their writing. He likes to show student work in class and discuss the good and not-as-good parts of student work which is really helpful. He's also fairly responsive to emails and is flexible meeting in person.

He is a really helpful teacher and is willing to help you if you have any question. I usually make an appointment with him if I have questions about the assignments. But he is a slow grader for some assignments. He grades them after the quarter ends so for some assignments, I made same mistakes again and again because I never knew what I did wrong.

He's a good guy. Grading is fair and the workload is manageable. If you did good in your high school English you'll be fine here. This was a really nice English 101 class and I would recommend it. Probably knocks you a couple points if you miss a ton of class but I can't remember it being that bad.

He's silly, says some funny stories, good person. The class was fairly easy, not much stress if you don't procrastinate. Makes everything seem simple. I would highly recommend.

Loved Prof. Hurley, he was great! Enjoyed every bit of English 102 because of him and the theme (The Detective in American Fiction & Film). Watched quite a handful of detective films and also the show Law & Order:SVU. He breaks down the research paper into smaller portions, which makes the work load much easier at the end of the qtr.

Overall, Hurley is a very good instructor. He is humorous and is thorough of what is expected in the three essays. He can be very flexible with due dates; he gives students an extra day or so to turn in an assignment.

Hurley is a great professor. Hes laid back but expects you to put in the effort. Hes very nice when it comes to turning something in late, as long as you have a valid excuse and let him know ahead of time. Just be prepared as he really likes sharing students work. Although its not terrible because hes a nice critic. Recommend for ENG101!

He really cares about helping the students learn and he'll make you participate sometimes, but it's helpful in my opinion. He's funny and understanding if you need to turn something in late. A great professor.

Dan is a wonderful person and teacher. The feedback he gives is really helpful, and he really cares about his students and their success. He is very supportive and patient, too!

Dan was the best! He was chill with the due dates. Our class negotiated deadlines with him and details about assignments too. He was approachable and easy to talk to. Plus, he gave good and clear feedback. I wouldn't say he's a tough grader, but definitely fair. He made his class fun and often made jokes.

He gives 3 essays as the final exam and its not that hard

I loved Dan because he is soo chill and super lenient on grading. When it comes to essay , he is not a tough grader as long as you know what it expected. He gives you plenty of time to write essays and etc. Theres no final exam, but 65% of your grade are the three essays you write within the quarter. Dan makes it pretty easy though :)

Mr. Hurley is the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about students being successful and becoming a better writer. He tells funny stories in class which distract you from your long essay you have to write. I feel a lot more confident with my writing since I have taken both his English 101 and 102 classes. I recommend him to everyone!

I'm so glad I decided to get on the waitlist for Dan's class. This is by far the easiest English class I've ever taken. There was barely any homework and only three major essays that had to be done. Getting in the word count is all you need to get over 90% in this class. Lastly, ask him about the house TV show for a good laugh :)

Although I never got to talk to him in real life due to Covid, I absoluetly love this teacher. He is so understanding and very helpful. He is great at responding to emails and he is always so willing to help. I missed a 50pt assignment due to some stuff at home and he excused the assignment. Overall you can tell he is a good man and is a smart guy!

I took him last year and just wanted to leave a review. Every assignment that you do is working toward the final 10 page paper. So there are no pointless and tedious assignments and he provides SO much help and good feedback. If you do the assignments which take a short amount of time the final is SO easy.

Class was 100% asynchronous but has office hours to answer any questions you had. Wasn't the best at responding to emails but was very nice and knowledgeable about what he teaches. Gives great feedback on written assignments and all the assignments help towards your final 10 page essay. His instructions were straightforward/ textbook is crucial!!

The best E teacher. His feedback very helpful. All HM will help you on your final paper. Flexible on time. I recommend him for all not native speakers students

Hurley is such a great teach. He is super understanding and only wants his students to pass. He gives us exactly what were gonna be tested on. He grades papers with much compassion! Put in work and you will get a a. I will be taking him for 102.

I took Hurley last quarter and his class is just amazing; his feedback helped with all three essays in the class, put in the work and you'll earn an easy A! I am currently taking his 102 class and it's not much different. I recommend taking both classes!

I enjoyed my time in professor Hurley's class! He is a man of very few words but he is beyond helpful. He is an easy grader and understands that you are a human before you are a student. When he gives feedback he shows exactly what you got marked off on and why. I do not care for English but he made my last English class the most enjoyable.

Really, really good lectures. Going to class never felt like a waste. Three main essays, each have a few assignments leading up to them. Nothing too difficult, and I felt like he was a generous grader with really good feedback. I would definitely sign up for another one of his classes.

I took English 101 and 102 with Mr.Hurley and they were both easy classes. In English 101 there are 3 essays throughout the quarter, which we peer review in class. If you pay attention and follow the rubric it's a easy A. English 102 had 1 10pg essay due at the end, but you complete it throughout the class. I would 100% recommend Mr.Hurley's class!

Professor Hurley is one of the best English teachers I had at Edmonds College. I was really scared for this class given I was still a High school student taking a college-level English class but Professor Hurley helped me out throughout the quarter and I was able to finish strong. DEF recommend the teacher, was very helpful.

Professor Hurley was an amazing teacher, amazing sense of humor. Not hard just put in effort and he will respect you, come to class, he grades participation every 4 weeks, there are 2 midterms. The homework assignments are not difficult whatsoever and they are little, they help lead up to the essays. 3 essays, I highly advice you choose him BEST!!!

BEST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER!!!! Take him and you won't regret. I took him for English 101 and 102, and he is just simply awesome. Really fascinating lectures and appreciates you if you come to class and participate. All he wants is for you to try and you will earn a really good grade. One of the best professors here for sure

Professor Hurley's ENG101 class is manageable with effort. The essays and assignments can be time-consuming, but he provides useful feedback. Unstuck ai was a great study aid alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid class to take.

This class was a great. Besides having to write 3 Essays that took me hours the rest of the class was easy. Not a lot of homework. Only two things that bothered me were the very slow grading and even when given nothing but positive feedback on essays I still got a max of 96.5%. Its my feeling that if you have no negative feedback it should be 100%
