He is a great teacher. The material can be difficult, but he is always willing to help students. He knows random facts that are good for examples in class.
Very good teacher. I had him last year, and I understood everything he was talking about. He makes the class very active.
This class is too easy.
The best and most informational teacher I have ever had!
He was amazing so helpfulka nd I was surrounded by idiots he was gentle wiht all of them, he is a great teacher. You'd have t obe sumb not to pick a class taught by him he is brilliant and just so down to earth and likea real person. Plus mega hottie
great teacher. he will give you study aids for the test that are just like the test and help you with any thing that you need.
First of all, he is very understanding. I liked how he taught. He always offers ways for students to achieve in the class. Cool teacher.
He's a very kind teacher who makes sure all his notes are organized and understandable. He makes available EXTREMELY helpful practice tests which i think should definately be taken advantage of (they helped me alot!) He made such a horrible subject for me become an enjoyable class to attend.
he's real easy to talk to and really helpful
Dan is an incredibly likeable guy with a great talent for explaining math concepts to dummies and smarties alike. His class was an excellent experience.
One of the best professors I've had. As long as you keep up with your work, you'll be fine... highly recommended professor!
Dan is a really nice guy, really passionate about math, and will help you whenever you need it. The work is hard but if you come to class you'll do fine. He is VERY cold to students that dont feel that it is necessary to attend class every session. I would reccomend his 100%.
I thought that he was horrible. He talked down to all the student and wasn't able to explain things clearly. He would say that you couldn't do it one way and the next time he did an example he did it the way he just told us not to. I mean he doesn't even know how to use a graphing calculator it was horrible! I would sujust not taking it from him
Throughout the semester I've struggled so much in Statistics. I felt the class was fast past. I guess its b/c math isn't my major. He does give points for hw, but it's not easy. 1 problem as problems a,b,c,d...get the point? It took me about 5 hrs to do 1 sec. of the hw. Mult. that by about 5 sections. U r only given about 1hr to do the test if u
Dan is my favorite teacher! He's such an excellent instructor!
Prior to taking this class, I had very poor math skills. He helped me learn the material easier than any other teacher I've had before. He briefly checks your homework, and it's worth a decent amount of points. His tests aren't too difficult either- they're based exactly on what he teaches in class. He's a nice guy, and I highly recommend him.
Mr. Kernler is a great teacher, if you feel like math is hard for.I am not good at math at all, but because Mr. Kernler made an effort to make everything clear, I got an A in his class. I would recommend him for Beginner's Algebra.
Mr. Kernler was a pretty good teacher. Besides the random outbursts of rage... he was an Ok teacher. Lot of homework though.....
his test questions are worth a ridiculous amount of points, like 8 question 100 point tests. His group project is completely useless and the amount of homework is unbelievable. dont take this if you want a life outside of math! overall he is a really really nice and genuine guy though
he gives a lot of homework and his testes are hard but his grading is clear and he's very up to date. uses d2l a lot. Dont recommend him.
GREAT TEACHER VERY UNDERSTANDING AND HE SHOWS THAT HE CARES FOR THE SUCESS OF HIS STUDENTS. TAKES THE TIME NEED IT TO MAKE SURE STUDENT UNDERSTAND AND LEARNS WHAT HE IS TEACHING.
Great teacher!
LOVEEEE HIM! He is soo helpful, please just take him, you will all understand!!
He is simply on his game 24/7. You will learn so much. If you are math illiterate this is the teacher you want to have.
TAKE HIS CLASS...seriously.
He deserves nothing less the 5.0 If you struggle in math like I do he is for sure the one to go to. His tests are very short but worth alot of points. Homework is alot (about 50 problems tops per section) but isnt due until chapter is over and compared to the teachers I have had in the past its average for college.
i took him for both 096 and 098, he is amazing. i swear there is no better math teacher. his teaching style is excellent. there is no way you can fail. he is so helpful, he takes each problem like it's its own. he goes slow if you need him to. REALLLY TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
He has a way of showing you how to do the problems and really breaks them down for you, he was more than willing to help you whenever you wanted. Super nice guy and really willing to work with me as much as I needed to pass.He also handed out outlines and great study sheets that really helped me pass his class.
Very difficult class, but I learned more than enough to transfer into a university program that required a firm grasp of statistics. Take Dan's class if you want to really learn about statistics. The project is not that bad as long as you stay on top of it.
great teacher!!!
Mr. Kernler has a great sense of humor! He lends as much help as possible, with excellent and simple math explanations.
Amazing instructor! He will take the time to help you understand his material. He does give a lot of homework and is a tough grader, but really cares about his students. I have never been happier with an instructor I highly recommend him.
Mr.Kernler was one of the best math teachers ive ever had. He takes the time to explain everything fully and to address any questions anyone has. He truly cares for his students and their success. There is a lot of homework, but the homework helps. There are basically pop quizzes every week roughly, he doesnt tell you when, but he drops 5 of them.
Pretty much the best math teacher i've ever had. Very helpful, and takes time to explain everything.
Easiness1 Helpfulness1 Clarity2 Rater Interest3 Unhelpful, uncaring. Very disorganized, homework was extremely long. Spent so much time on theory and would get lost himself. Office hours were worthless as he told you to do it yourself. Very picky about little details
THIS Teacher give a lot of freaking too much homework. he thinks his students do not have a life outside of class. his pop up quizzes are horrible. he is no good. do not take this class with him....if you do god bless your heart. :)
He is a tough grader and gives out a lot of homework and the test are worth a lot. However, he is very helpful understanding and a good instructor. He knows what he is doing. Very charming and nice man.
Such a lovable guy. He cares for his students and strongly recommends to visit him on his office hours for help. Test are pretty tough but over all a nice guy.
Anyone who gives Mr. Kernler a bad rating is just out of their minds and lazy. It's school, there's homework? Get over it. I failed MTH098 the first time with somene else. He is the best teacher I've ever had. In any class. I've never met a teacher who cares so much about their students. I wish I could take him for every math class in the future!:)
He is a great professor. I really enjoyed his class. He gave us pre-made notes that we just had to fill in as class went on, so you don't have to spent as much time writing. He explains things very clearly, and all in all take something boring and difficult, and makes it fun and easy. I definitely recommend him.
Professor Kernler is a good teacher. He is very clear in what he expects from you. He does give a lot of homework but most of it is reasonable. He regularly gives quizzes but I found it helpful in review. He has a good policy on test taking, and allows you 7 days absense. If you have a good excuse and maintain a good grade, he'll allow more.
I dreaded this class. Really dreaded it. Professor Dan completely changed my mind about algebra. He succeeded where other teachers failed. He assigns homework, but if you do the work, you'll succeed as well. His quizzes and tests are hard, but fair. He is extremely helpful and always replies promptly to emails. Excellent instructor!
Dan is a GREAT teacher! he is very helpful and always willing to answer questions. If you pay attention and do homework you should pass. He has his own notes, Don't buy the book its not needed. You will do fine in his class if your truly devoted (as you should be in college)
Prof Kernler is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. He is always available to help and never makes you feel stupid. We have been using this website called learn smart that helps a lot. I've usually used my math lab but learn smart was a lot more helpful. Highly recommend his class!
Great teacher. Always willing to help, and has set hours for student help. He is understandable and works with you if needed. He teaches well and has quizes that are helpful to study from and the exams are pretty easy if you pay attention and try to learn the material. If you are serious about learning and passing Dan is the best teacher to go for.
He is a good teacher. Some times the way he explains is hard to understand. Doesn't give extra credit. Don't use book at all. Give pre game before exam but only 1,2 pre games helped. Also have to do post game counts as homework. If ur absent u get half point for post game because u r handing it in late :/. Give a lot of hw
Good teacher. Gives a bit of homwork, but not too much. Pre-printed notes and regular quizzes. Work hard during the entire class and you don't have to be stressed about finals. I would recommend him. VERY GOOD TEACHER
I made the biggest mistake taking Kernler. He was not helpful at all what do ever. He asked students to come in during office hours to get help but when you go there he doesn't try to help you. He only askd well what did we go over in class. For anyone who struggles in math. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Now, MR. DOTY! Excellent math teacher!!!!!!!!!
There is no other math instructor that I was willing to have except Professor Dan. Had him for math 096 and for math 098. Always willing to help, more homework than 096 but that is expected. He's clear, concise, and open to different ways of achieving the same goal. Highly recommend him.
Dan is very helpful. He really cares about his students but he also cares about his class. He will not have any sympathy for you if you do not show up for class and do not do the assignments. He assigns alot of homework which is all online. He does give "practice tests" which do help alot. He does not give extra credit
Awesome math class, highly recommended Prof. Right now I'm taking a summer math class with a different Prof. and I already miss his class. I'm sick of the "here I'm gonna do problems on the board and expect you to just copy me and learn from that" approach, Kernler's class is so much better. You actually feel like you got something out of it.
This was the hardest math class I have taken. That being said this teacher did not know how to test us. On average our test ran 20 mins after class. He did not know how to manage his time. We spent to much time going over hw problems and not enough time on the work needed to be learned. We rushed though the units and were not able to even finish.
Gave lots of homework, but the lectures in class was no reflection of what was going expect on the homework; not to mention that the quizzes were fairly easy, but the test's were hard by comparison. Not to mention that tests were hard as can be compared to both the homework and quizzes. Even if you went to ask for help it didn't really help you out
This teacher is insanely difficult, his quiz's are based of the homework but his tests are a step above. He'll hardly give you any partial credit and say "You don't have to show all the steps" actually" he'll say, but he's lying, show every step he will give no credit if you don't. I strongly urge you to skip him or be prepared to study like hell.
Professor Kernler is a great teacher he will help you out if you have any questions but make sure to ask. He does assign a lot of homework but if you do it you will understand the material. He gives out 2-3 quizzes a week, tests around every two weeks. No extra credit, but drops 3 bad quiz grades.
Phenomenal professor; perhaps the most helpful one I've had yet. He cares immensely about his students, and it shows through his commitment. But he is most certainly not easy. Whatever grade you get in that class is the grade you earned.
Kernler was a great teacher. His lectures were good the only thing I would be wary of again is the amount of homework, quizzes, projects and exam preps you have to do it's all pretty time consuming. Other than that I would take him again.
He knows his stuff. He gives the grade that you deserve also; if you slacked off expect a low grade, if you worked hard expect a good grade. He is always there to help, he was probably my most helpful teacher. Overall, great teacher who is very knowledgeable in the subject he teaches who is there to help his students.
A teacher that really chooses favorites and multiple students in my class experienced unfair grading. He gave someone an 'F' on a presentation for not being exciting enough... it's math.
He is very helpful and is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching. If you need help in class he is good at clarifying what you don't understand. The exams will seem difficult if you don't study and don't know the material well, so study and take very good notes.
Mr. Kernler was my professor for my first semester ever at ECC and he was an amazing professor. He taught really well he is always trying to help you just need to ask. His test aren't to hard you just need to study and do pre games and show up to class and you will be alright not to hard of a class.
I had taken Honors Statistics with Kernler, and honestly going into it I was super nervous that I would struggle the whole semester. There is a semester long project, but as long as you keep up on it and go to him for help you will be fine! He has study guides for the tests, which are helpful! He does give online homework every class
A lot of hw-you must get it done over the weekend so you can ask questions during the week. When you ask- make sure you ask him to work the problem out in front of you or you'll be just as lost. His exams don't look like the hw. The practice problems in class look like the test so if you miss class you wont know what to expect. he's straight fwd.
You work? This class is not for you. Hwnever ending. Great teacher/person , but not lenient. Project- too much at the end even if you keep up (toughly graded like an english paper) late work is late no exceptions (even 1 min). Many take this class for the Gen eds but prof makes it unnecessarily difficult at times because of his love of math.
Overall, Dan knows what he's talking about. He is very fast paced though, and if you miss so much as one day you are going to struggle. His tests are pretty much all that matters. He asks questions to the same few students and plays clear favorites. If you are not one of these people, his willingness to help will be noticeably different.
Do NOT take this class! Avoid this class at all costs, has only taught it once. Your better off taking it with the teacher that created the book. Goes through stuff too fast, you have a day to learn it then it's on the homework or quiz.
If you don't like working in groups, you're not going to like this class. When it comes to tests, you take them twice. You take the test individually the first day, but the next day you take it with your assigned group. He then weighs your grade between the two scores you receive; a little weird but if you do bad on your own, your group can help
Mr. Kernler is the nicest professor I've had. He's always willing to help and puts forth the extra step to make sure you understand. It's all group work though, so if you don't like group work do not take his class. Only complaint was how we had to learn how use a program the whole time instead of the typical equations. Easier for some but not all.
Mr Kernler is a very solid teacher. He is very organized, caring, and insightful. He has a method of addressing every students learning styles that works very well, all while getting his point and knowledge across successfully. I recommend you take his class.
Very nice guy, very understanding and caring. His teaching style is not for everyone though. Expect to teach yourself most the material which wasn't hard but still. He seems lost half the time and the only grades are a few quizzes and tests so do well on them. They're open book and open note, but don't underestimate them.
He is actually quite rude in a snarky way. He likes to undervalue students in the classroom as if they are worthless to him. I am a sophomore in college and not once have I had a professor ask me how I graduated high school, simply because of a minor error. He assigns many things in a short time-frame with little notice. Don't take his Stat-class!
Professor fails at his own class.
Homework is on the harder side, but he will answer any homework questions at the beginning of each class. Quizzes were made up of some of the EXACT questions from the homework, so if you expect to do good on the quizzes, do the homework. He is willing to help outside of class, and you can EASILY earn back 20% of the points you lost on the test.
Mr. Kernler is great. You work in groups all semester. You take your tests twice: Once alone and once in your group (they're the same test). The downside of the class is that you kind of teach yourself w/ videos he made but he's great at explaining if you have questions. One big final project. Make sure to participate in groups to understand tests.
Dan is really approachable and gives good feedback for test and quizzes. Very fair grader. Do the homework and youll do well on the quizzes. Tries to explain things the best he can. Overall he was a really great professor.
Professor Kernler is the best math teacher that I have had at ECC. He gives guided notes which are really helpful. The material can be difficult but he prepares you well. Always willing to help and caring.
Prof. Kernler is the most caring teacher that I ever had. Every day, he would go over any questions in the homework that students had homework with. He also allowed students to retake as many tests as they wanted since he cares more about them actually learning the content then the grade that they receive. He made the content really enjoyable & fun
There is a lot of homework for this class and it is assigned in a short amount of time. Overall, he was a very sweet professor and tests are not too bad. He is somewhat of a tough grader.
He is horrible at communication, I was quite offended by him too.
On the surface seems friendly and helpful but undernith is really ful of himself.
Overall good professor, but if youre sensitive his way of wording things might offend you. Sometimes unintentionally I think he comes off in an arrogant way and knows hes smarter than you. But he encourages working with others and every assignment he gives you has a purpose. Practice and homework correlate to tests, but theres a big project!
Stats is not an easy class but Professor Kernler was very helpful throughout the whole semester. He would spend a half hour in his office hours to help me with the probability unit. There are weekly quizzes, but they are open note. The only downside to this class is he doesn't lecture you have to watch the lectures at home on Youtube.
Kernler has been the best math teacher I've had. I took Calc 1 and 2 with him and regret not taking trig with him too. He is super clear while explaining and cares about his students learning. You didn't pass an exam? correct it, he will give you the answers and give you 20% of your lost points as long as you show you understand what you did wrong.
This is my first year of college and from the beginning, Professor Kernler has been my favorite. He's very flexible, a quick grader, and a very kind person. Out of all the teachers I've ever had, he's been one of the best.
Great professor! Easy to understand and always willing to help. Gave us enough time to complete homework and notes were easy to understand and follow.
Dan is awesome! kind, funny, and cares for his students. Very clear teaching style that works for everyone. Homework takes a while so dont fall behind, it will snowball. Reach out if you need anything, he is always down+ready to help. Guided notes r easy. Do homework and practice tests and you'll get an A. there is partial credit+retests if needed
Prof. Kernler was the best math teacher I have had. He is extremely understanding and dedicated most of his zoom lectures by asking the students what they are struggling with and going over it in class. His class was very easy for me, especially with all of the resources he provided. You can tell he will do anything for you to succeed.
Kernler was such a great professor. He cares about his students and makes everyone feel comftorable. Hes very helpful in class but I can see this class being difficult online. Theres a lot of work so if you miss class, you will be behind. Nevertheless, I recommend taking Kernlers class.
The professor was very supportive and always tried to make everything as clear as possible. He would assign to listen to the other professor's lectures and take useful notes, and in zoom meetings, he would spend a lot of time going over the topics that the majority had problems with. He provided preferred study plan that was very helpful.
He would constantly point out who the ''smart'' and ''dumb'' kids were. he's not the type of professor that's understanding either. I told him I was working to support my family and he said '' it's easier for me to say to quit because luckily my parents paid for everything''. As a professor, you should now students come from different walks of life
doesn't go into detail with anything he does not care about you if you don't over perform. Also never tell him about you work life because he will go on a rant about how you should quit your job because he was an only child and "had it easy" not everyone lives your life bozo.
Took his Calc 3 course. I don't ever post reviews, but I love this professor so much that I had to. The material is difficult, but I like his teaching and grading style. He isn't condescending at all, and I really don't understand some of these reviews. Please don't let these negative reviews detour you from taking this professor.
he does the bare minimum even less as a professor. you have to teach yourself. not that special, try to take another prof if you can
His teaching style worked very well for me. It was mostly chapter notes that he printed out for us and we would do it together in class. His notes were very clear so it was easy to understand and he would answer whatever questions you had before/after class. He was pretty chill and funny.
Amazing teacher. I took calc 3 with him and he was always very helpful. Whenever I couldn't make it to class it was not a big deal and the online lectures are easy to use. Very test heavy, homework is not graded but it's necessary. Easier than calc 2 by far
Prof Kernler is one of the best professors I have had at ECC! His teaching is very clear and understandable. In each class he will literally scan the room to make sure all questions are answered. He is kind and approachable and never makes you feel dumb.Grading is 20% homework, 20% quizzes, 40% exams (4), and 20% final. He allows exam retakes too!
he dressed up as a dinosaur
He does not do a great job at teaching specific topics in his class. He makes YouTube videos for each chapter, but the material is completely different from what's on his exams. I tried reaching out to him once to go over my exam grade and he refused, never had a professor do that to me.
Very fun experience! He even dressed up as an inflatable dinosaur on Halloween
Personally really loved Kernler! He's really friendly, easy to follow in lectures, always available if you need extra help, and super flexible if you miss days and tests. There is a fair amount of homework and testing but it was always manageable, and he'll drop some lower grades at the end of the semester.
Don't be fooled by what you read. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I've taken several other courses above 112, all of them being easily manageable. Pop quizzes from time to time, so be aware. Not a class you want to fall behind on, even a day. The homework is even worse, not even related to the lessons. Instead it's problems 10x harder than what's discussed.
Professor Kernler is a great teacher - friendly, helpful, and flexible. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for practice and prep. Overall, an excellent class experience.
Highly recommend him for calc 3, he uses desmos which helps a lot to under the content. He is very good at lectures and cares a lot about his job.
By many papers, I mean there's many practice worksheets that will build up in you drive. Organizing them is important because the tests are open notes. Put the effort in understanding what method to use to solve a problem by working with your group and asking questions. I don't advise not going to class/not asking stuff because you'll fall behind.
Professor Kernler was great! I tested into this class with very little background in college math, so I got frustrated a lot. Kernler was patient, offered extra help, and provided resources that helped me personally and mathematically. His jokes are funny, and homework is very important, and there can be a lot of it, so stay on top of it.
