What a great guy!
You are ruining my future!!!
interesting lectures. tests are confusing, be sure to do the practice exams he gives you
Very excited about his field, although it isn't exciting. But his tests are difficult.
Very detailed with great information. Very interesting topic. Tests can be difficult just know your stuff and go over ALL of the practice exams thoroughly and you will not have a problem. Excellent professor.
He is a bit full of himself because he was involved in the OJ Simpson trial. He is not very approachable and his material is very boring. You will hate this class.
oh my god dont get him started on the OJ Simpson case he'll never shut up!
Excellent professor! To graduate from WSU, every undergraduate should have him for at least one course.
My favorite professor of all time. The information is interesting and he does a great job explaining it. If only Dr. Krane could teach all the bio classes!
Just follow his lecture notes and you will do fine. Make sure you study all his old exams and his lecture notes, then you are sure to get an A.
He is a very nice guy...always willing to help...just study his notes and go over the old exams, then you are sure to get an A in the class...the labs sometimes can be hard, but if you attend every lab and do the work...you'll do great in the course
Good prof. Knows what he's talking about.....just as him. Just study notes and old tests and an easy "A" is waiting for you.
Great prof. Likes to teach and does it well. Really got me interested in molecular biology, which eventually led me to grad school research instead of med school. Has lots of good stories to tell.
Excellent professor. Very knowledgeable with lots of stories. Interesting to listen too. Material is rather challenging but course notes are very helpful. Overall I recommend taking him for molecular/genetics-type classes.
Awesome professor. Will do anything he can to help you, as long as you give it your best shot. Tough material, but he gives you everything you need to pass with an A. Study the notes and his previous exams and you have all you need. Great guy.
Probably the smartest man you will ever meet; yet, he knows how to teach at a student level. Dr. Krane makes this challenging course easier to understand via lecture notes and awesome stories.
One of the best teachers from the biology department. His tests mostly consists of questions from the old tests. He includes the old tests with his notes.
Krane prefaces the class by saying every other class leads up to BIO 211 and it is the climax of our education. Overall, you learn A LOT w/out knowing it. Good prof and very helpful. 85% of test questions come from practice tests but many are changed slightly so beware of that. Easy to find old test (I had about 30 old tests).
Easiest class ever. Has exams from prior years online and takes questions from them for his tests. The difference between an A and B in that class is the TA. The lab portion dictates your grade because the test are an easy A so focus on lab.
I LOVE Dr. Krane. He is so funny and so intelligent. How he even ended up at Wright State is beyond me. He could teach anywhere. His class is easy because if you go to lecture he teaches the material in very simple terms that anyone could understand. Even if you're not a BIO major i would take his class just because it's interesting.LOVE THIS GUY!!
Krane is awesome. All his notes are online, you can even watch the lectures online. Makes old exams readily available to study.
Dr. Krane teaches very broadly and tests very detailed. study old exams to study but beware that he changes the wording on the questions. Class is based only on 3 tests and the lab grade, he doesnt believe in curves,or dropping your lowest grade. he is a lazy professor: wouldnt make a final study guide because "he didnt want to" doesnt use textbook
He's lazy and very talkative, ta's do everything and he talks around questions
Dr. Krane is a funny and intelligible guy but his lectures are very broad and his exams are very detailed. He says we don't need to use the book or even come to class. All of his notes are available online and so are his lectures. And he gives us previous tests to study, but the most of the questions are switched to trick you. His notes dont help.
He was very unhelpful. Very arogant and gives off the vibe that he doesn't feel like he should be teaching an entry level bio class. He is very smart and really knows genetics, but doesn't really have time for his students. No curve and no extra credit because he "doesn't feel like grading it".
He gave very clear guidelines for test preparation then completely deviated from it. Many questions on the final were over material not covered. WATCH OUT he throws curveballs. First B for me.
Tests were way to wordy. He took a whole page for just two questions; sometimes only one question fit on the page. His wording makes it confusing. He could save some paper and not make his questions so long. Then if questions weren't so long, he could add more questions so each question would be worth less so you could miss more!
Krane was a great teacher. He's very intelligent, friendly, and helpful. However, I found this class difficult because I am not a BIO major. Krane goes in-depth with a lot of the material, but it is still a doable class. If you have to take any BIO class, take it with Krane! Don't buy the book or the lecture notes, just the lab manual.
Fantastic professor. Loved him and his class. Made it easy to learn and get an A. If you have a chance, talk to him. He is an expert in DNA and forensics and has been involved in a number of high profile cases including: the OJ Simpson trial, the first World Trade Center bombing, the DC Beltway sniper case, etc. Incredibly interesting man.
Dr. Krane is very intelligent and knows the material but his test are tricky. They are application based and not content based. You must know the material and hypothetical situations. . You don't have to buy a book though.
Absolute best professor I have ever had!!!
DrmKrane was very interesting from day one. He was enthusiastic about the course which was contageous. He always responds to emails w/in several hours, which is always helpful. Material is in depth, but he's always there to help. He makes past tests available which makes a huge difference in preparing for a test. Great professor & very knowledgable
Smart guy, keeps it interesting and always tells us what e ned to remember for tests.
Krane is awesome. Records lectures and poss them online and encourages us to stay home and sleep and watch the videos later because class is at 8am and who can pay attention at that time. Answers emails within hours of sending even if you send at 11pm by the time you wake up in the morning you already have a reply. Absolutely awesome teacher!!!
He was a very good professor! I choose not to buy the book because it was so expensive, and I still did good. The first test was rough, but if you apply yourself, such as go to class, re watch lectures, and actually put some effort in, you will be fine. Don't screw up on the first test like I did, because it is hard to raise the grade to an A or B.
Great teacher! I would certainly recommend him.
This man is incredibly arrogant & one sided on the criminal justice system. He is very intelligent, but he will not answer questions and the ta teaches the class pretty much. This man makes my skin crawl the way he talks to some students.
Krane will provide you with tons of resources. He records all of his lectures and posts them online. He also posts past tests and keys and uses them as his exams. Studying these was the key to passing the class for me. He's funny and nice but a little arrogant. Better than the prof who took over for him. His lectures felt like watching NOVA.
Professor Krane is a great start for a bio major. He really does well to get you excited about what he's teaching! I suggest that students read the lecture notes before lecture, it helps in retaining the information.
He was very tricky and I had to study tons, but I believe his tests were fair...I'm just stupid in Biology so I didn't get the grade that I'm always hoping for.
I really loved Dan Krane. He was rally nice and super smart. I really love bio and I tried really hard in his class and thankfully I came out with an A. He's a great guys tho, take the class
He is really helpful and his exams are easy if you study for them., do not only study the practice exams.
He is an excellent teacher, and his lectures are worth going to class for. he also put recordings of the lectures online, along with the ppts. The exams are pretty tough, but you know your grade right afterwards, and as long as you go to class, take good notes, and study, you should do fine. Supplemental Instruction times available.
Was an amazing biology professor! Made the lectures optional and was extremely clear in breaking the material down for us. Sad that he doesn't teach the second semester biology class. Would definitely take him again!
Dr. Krane is a very interesting professor. He does his own DNA profiling on the side of being professor. His exams come directly from his old exams, making them not that difficult.
AMAZING PROFESSOR, highly highly recommended. If you study old tests, you'll do well. Not many grades though.
He really knows his stuff, and he makes the content as clear as possible. Find time to study the tests, as most questions are from past exams. He made the final exam vary quite a bit from the practice exams though, so make sure you know the material as well. He records every class on Tegrity. The more you apply yourself, the better you'll do.
Krane is a very progressive and enjoyable professor. He uses online office hours and posts his lecture audio online. Honestly you don't need to go to class except for exams. He is completely clear on what he expects. If you review his lecture notes and his old exams (that he recycles for new tests) you can easily get an A.
Tests are different than the ones you study beforehand to prepare. You really have to know your stuff. Also, there's a lot of students crammed into this class to maximize profit from tuition so you'll have a lot of classmates.
Krane is a good professor. He makes it clear that you don't have to come to class on the first day and he puts recordings of lectures online for you to follow. He gives every past exam for you to study and look at that really help with studying. He's funny too!
I'm interested in science and biology but this was the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. Material is difficult to understand and applying concepts you need to know is hard as well. Unless you can learn everything on your own I wouldn't recommend this class.
He posts practice tests that are his old exams. STUDY THESE! They are basically the same as the exam he will give you. Didn't really need the book and I barely showed up.
This is definitely a class you need to read for. But if you read the study guide and do all the past papers before every exam, you're guaranteed a pass at the least. I only figured this out till the end of the semester when I found that he was taking questions straight from the past papers he put on pilot. Overall this was an okay class.
Start studying the past exams day 1. He posts every exam he's ever given before onto Pilot. He takes questions directly from them. He'll modify the questions a little bit, but those are going to be your bible for this class. Also, his lecture notes are really helpful. I'd advise printing them out or taking notes from them before class.
Great teacher! Tells you exactly what you need to know to get good grades.
Dr. Krane knows his stuff, but he doesn't always know how to teach it to you so that you understand it conceptually for the test. He posts all the past exams on PILOT. Start studying those a lot (the questions are almost exactly the same) and you will get a good grade. Grades are only based off of exams and lab grades. No need for the book.
Krane was a pretty easy class. You are not required to come to class. He posts all his lectures and previous exams online so just studies those and you will do great. He literally puts them right onto the new tests. He knows what hes talking about.
Going to start out by saying. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOUR AREN'T A BIO MAJOR!!! This is not an "intro" class even though it requires no prerequisites to join. If you do take the class make sure you spend a lot of time reviewing multiple previous exams, only way I passed the class.
Exams were difficult, despite the fact that he provides you with old exams to study from. He would add new material and tweak questions so they were just different enough to be unrecognizable. I liked him as a person but I did not think that he was a good professor.
He is not that great in breaking down concepts. He can be misleading. He posts exams online.
I am a Bio major. I understand the topics covered 90% of the time but with way krane teaches, I was lost. He understands what he's talking about but he does not understand how to break it down for college students just learning the material. If you memorize all of his old exams you will pass, barely. His exams purposefully try to deceive you.
Don't miss the scheduled exam! I had a complication for the second exam and was excused. I had to wait 3 weeks after to take it. It was cumulative and two days before, he emailed us and said that it was going to be a short answer test, not multiple choice. So the prior exams were NOT helpful at all. The questions were very specific.
This guy is a great professor. He is fair with his students, and all you need to do is learn the material. Only three exams, and everything is practically covered in class. TAKE NOTES!! I repeat, TAKE NOTES! But you will not regret taking his class, he teaches everything you need to know!
Krane was a nice guy and I genuinely believe he cares about his students learning the material I just feel like he doesnt know how to teach in a way for freshmen college students to understand. Because of this, its really hard to connect what you learned in lecture to the exams.
The class is not as hard as many say, you just have to attend the lectures and read his notes (they are amazing btw). Study the material and old exams and youre set. The things thats amazing about krane is that he is very understanding and kind to his students. He reaches out to those who need help, goes above and beyond than most professors.
He wants his students to succeed and is willing to help in the ways that he can. He also offers a special Recitation to help further your understanding of the course and to prepare you for his exams. Make sure to look over the practice exams that he provides you and you will pass.
First off, DO NOT TAKE IF YOU'RE A NURSING MAJOR!! They give you the option to take a cells and genes class, but take a different class like health and diseases instead. I didn't learn anything in his class. He gives you the past exams and that's how you study for his tests. Memorize them. Print them out and highlight them. Don't buy the textbook!!
Krane's class was very structured and I found it very easy to learn the material without going to lecture up until the third part of the class. After that, he began mentioning things that were not in the powerpoints or textbook so going to lectures was crucial. He did not help me much but he provided us with all of the resources to succeed online.
Krane provides all the tools needed to succeed in his class. I highly reccomend printing out his lecture notes and taking notes alongside them. All his old exams are posted and as long as you study these heavily and pay attention during lecture, his exams are relatively easy. He is extremely caring and seeks to make an impact on his students!
Krane is conceited....
Offers more than enough resources to get an A, but class in person was not taught in a way that helped me retain for the mcat. Just learn the topics urself via the book and the youtube videos. If u memorize every question on the old exams/ answer them as they would potentially be reworded you will get an A. Great guy though! Very happy man!
His class is very difficult. He gives you access to the old tests, so take advantage is that. You still need to know the material though; knowing the old questions only gets you so far. He will change them up. He is tough and fair. I do recommend him despite his difficulty.
Good teacher. Makes sure you have everything you need online.
Provides many resources and a very effective instructor. Put in the work and you will pass.
Having 300 people in the class made the student to Professor relationship obsolete. I didnt go to his lectures because he recording them and puts them online for you, it was much easier for me to listen to the lecture at home. The exams are really hard but he puts old ones on pilot. If you listen to the lectures and take notes, study youll pass
The way he linked his course to pilot is confusing. Its not easy to maneuver through. Completing the work and quizzes is difficult because, being an online student, you dont get reminders or standard notifications
The lab portion never worked and did nothing to inspire students to complete the lab or even show up. You could go in sign attendance and leave waiting for to results to be emailed to you. The grades had to be curved quite a bit because people kept messing up their lab reports so you could get full points for proper structure
All the resources you need to pass are given to you. Study the past exams, attend SI lessons and recitation and you'll be fine. Content is hard and while Dr. Krane is passionate in his teaching, I'd say his teaching style isn't the most effective for actually learning and understanding the material. Really need to put in the effort to do well.
Dr. Krane's BIO 3710 Forensic DNA Profiling class is terrible. Do not consider taking this class. There is a large amount of work, especially for a 2 credit hour class. It is not worth it. Dr. Krane expects his students to analyze his cases as if they are professionals and experts in the area. Grades as if they are professionals. Don't take course!
Dr. Krane was awful. Previous exams are provided to you for studying purposes so the exams are not too difficult, even though some of the exam content is not covered in lecture. He covers the basic material and then expects you to learn answers to other questions from old exams. Lab was useless as the experiments often did not even work. Avoid him.
I love Dr. Krane, great guy, really knows his stuff. Most clearly graded class I've ever taken. Why most people are complaining about him is because he doesn't ask you to just regurgitate the definitions he gave you in class. Instead, he will teach you about how a system works and then ask what would happen to said system in different circumstances
He is awful. He just gives practice old exams and expects students to learn from those. Attend SI, they are more helpful and know how to explain things more than Krane.
He really likes to talk about himself and his previous involvement with the OJ Simpson trial instead of teaching his class. If you don't go, or at least watch his recordings though you'll miss his trick terms which he likes to sneak into lecture. You will still have to teach yourselves the content though.
He is very test heavy. There are 3 tests worth majority of your grade. Even if you did bad on one test it would be very hard to get an A in his class, unless you got an A in the lab. He gives out previous tests. STUDY THOSE. If you study the previous tests and make a quizlet out of them. You should get an A. He's an understanding professor.
He's a great person, but not a great teacher. His methods do not work for most, the lectures are extremely dull. He just reads a slideshow every class and that's it. Basically your whole grade will be determined on four exams, so STUDY THE OLD EXAMS. Honestly, the SI sessions did not help me much, I had to teach myself this course.
He is very exam heavy, and his exams are meant to trick. He wants everyone to have a C and also tells lab TAs to mark down grades to make his average a C. He tells his honors recitation things about exams he does not disclose with anyone else.
Discussion posts had to be 500-550 words with cited sources and then you had to critique two other students with a word count of like 200-250 with cited sources and respond to those that responded to your post. Every module ends with a quiz, there's a term paper with an oral presentation, a cumulative final, and attendance is graded.
I loved Dr. Krane's class. It's what made me realize I had a passion for BIO. His bio class was lecture heavy, so I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have a passion for it. Yet he is a sweet, happy guy and was always willing to answer my questions. This class is easy but do study for exams.
Took the online version and it was like a breeze but the exams are kind of tough. Online is self paced so it definitely helps. He gave good feedback and kept in touch with us often. Lectures could be long though. Just make sure you study and keep up so you don't get behind and have to cram everything last minute.
I really liked Dr. Krane, his class was super easy, and I really enjoyed how he taught in his lectures. The lab was fun, but it didn't really go along with the lecture. Make sure not to fall behind like I did and cram in assignments at the last minute. There is a textbook, but I never read it and I did just fine. Just make sure you study for exams!
The class is exam-heavy, but using resources like unstuckstudy, past exams, and SI sessions can help you succeed. The professor's teaching style may not appeal to everyone, but putting in the effort pays off. Overall, a challenging yet manageable course.
Professor Krane is the best professor I've ever had. He's a pretty funny guy and is passionate about what he teaches. The lectures are pretty interesting but can be pretty boring in the beginning of the semester. He records lectures, creates lecture notes, and gives past exams to study. If you show up and take the practice exams, you'll pass.
Dr. Krane is genuinely one of the best professors I've had who's passionate about his work. As long as you study looking over notes and the past exams he provides, you'll be in good hands. SI sessions are a HUGE plus as well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I suggest never missing a class so you understand the units better.
Look..Dr. Krane is awesome, I'm just not a fan of his teaching style. I want more than just a lecture and an exam, I want engagement. I found myself bored, but the SI sessions were helpful enough.
Amazing lecturer. Quizzes, lectures, and exams are all the same content so you never forget to study. Provides ton of practice exams and notes materials for exam study. Overall, incredible biology teacher (even as someone who does not like the subject at all). If you need a science credit, his class is totally worth it
Dan was an amazing teacher. The lectures covered exactly what was on the tests, and there were a lot of past quizzes posted, which were very helpful when preparing for exams. He was very reachable and replied quickly, gave great feedback, and interacted well with students.
