Larkin is very charismatic, and he's passionate about what he does, making the class interesting. He is hilarious and is willing to help anyone who needs it, because the material isn't exactly easy. I recommend this class to anyone. He is a great professor and it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes. I love coming to class; it's my favorite.
Dan is a grad student and this was his second class, but the guy is a naturally good teacher. He breaks down material well, grades fairly, encourages participation. He has little four question quizzes that you do before each class, but it's a breeze if you do the reading. Good guy. Take him.
Dan is extremely enthusiastic about Philosophy and was a great professor. He clearly explains the material in class and his tests are 100% fair if you do the readings and attend class. Would definitely recommend taking any of his offered courses and would take him again in the future if I could.
Professor Larkin is wonderful. I took PHIL 1611 online and it was very easy with his helpful videos and the assigned readings. Anytime I emailed him I received a response within 24 hours. If you have to take this course online or in a class setting I suggest you take it from professor Larkin.
This Class was so good. Dan Larkin is great at explaining any problems you have. He leads the class in a discussion format. Take him if you get a chance.
No tests and he has 4 papers, however if you turn your papers in early, he would give you great feedback and allow you to rewrite it. Did I mention you would actually want to attend his class.Dan will explain until you understand.Every week he holds a tapping philosophy session in the bar which is also awesome and that also focus on topics.Enjoyed!
Dan is an intermingling of enthusiasm, intelligence, humor, and insight. The only downside to Dan's teaching style is the amount of disappointment you will encounter when moving on to other courses (in which you find yourself bored or "left behind" in material). I didn't find him "easy" per se. His expectations are clear and he pushes intelligence.
Dan is an excellent teacher, and was born to teach. He speaks clearly, and is always willing to answer questions and play devil's advocate. He is intent on making sure we not only know the philosophy needed, but also critical thinking skills that should come with the class. On top of all that, he's quite easy on the eyes.
Dan is very energetic and charismatic. Awesome teacher that really gets you thinking. He keeps my attention and he never bore me unlike my other teachers. If you take good notes, you will definitely pass.
You literally have to try to fail this class. Mr. Larkin makes this class very easy to understand and very easy to pass, he really does want to see each of his students succeed. Class is SUPER interesting, makes you think a lot about life. TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Great teacher. (PS, call him Professor Socrates)
Amazing teacher!! He is very thorugh in his teachings and loves to draw on the board to get his point across. This is the best class I have ever taken hands down. Take this guy. You wont be disappointed.
Great teacher! Most interesting philosophy class I've had! He's flexible, dresses nicely, and even if you don't like philosophy, he's so enthusiastic that it doesn't matter!
Larkin makes class very interesting and is always enthusiastic about the lesson. I'd highly recommend him! He's good at playing devil's advocate, but he isn't offensive. He just gets you thinking. If you do the work, you'll be sure to pass! Oh, and he most definitely deserves a chili pepper.
The best professor ever. Completely interesting and extremely comical. He makes learning philosophy even more fun.
This teacher is great! His enthusiasm about the subject really helps make the class fun and helpful! Yes you will actually learn stuff about philosophy. As long as you attend class and take notes you will do well on the tests, which are very easy. The reading is brutal but he helps you grasp the main concepts easily. Overall great class and teacher
Take this class. You WILL NOT regret it, and it's a manageable A. Attendance is now mandatory to receive a homework/participation grade, but he makes it easy to come to class. I suggest Mr. Larkin, no matter the course subject, to everyone.
Mr. Larkin was a really great instructor. I highly recommend him no matter the course. He is more than willing to help you and make sure you understand the material. It's very clear that he genuinely cares about students.
Easy tests on blue books, goes over everything in class and he makes it easy to understand.
Best professor ever! he's hilarious and makes class very interesting. Always willing to help if you need it. Oh, and the chili pepper is well deserved, this man is beautiful.
I loved this class. He was hilarious and made his lectures interesting. He is not hard at all! I highly recommend anyone take him. It doesn't hurt that he's good looking!
Very enthusiastic, and absolutely adorable. Regardless of your major, his lectures are easy to understand and can actually be applicable in "real life." Highly recommend!!!
Crazy funny teacher! I wanted to attend every lecture! He's loud and keeps your attention. Never went to a boring class. He makes everything very clear and easy to understand. Two in class exams and one paper. We were allowed to retake one exam if we wanted. Lots of reading but that's to be expected in a philosophy class. Would take his class again
Dr. Larkin was an amazing professor. I took him for Intro to Philosophy and his class was by far the most interesting class I've taken in college. If I weren't so invested in my nursing career, I would have considered a major in philosophy after taking his class. Highly recommend him!
Honestly I signed up for his class because a friend said he was super cute and funny, which is true. I was dreading actual philosophy, but Larkin makes it fun and easy to understand.
One of the few teachers that allows you to be open and honest about faith, whatever it is. Made difficult material seem simple to understand. Learned things I will use the rest of my life.
Professor Larkin is absolutely hilarious. Enjoyed all of his lectures. I am not a philosophy major, but took the class as an elective. I was worried because I was not interested in the subject at all. However, he made the class so interesting and fun. Just two exams and a paper. I made a 100 on both exams. Super easy. And he's gorgeous.
He is definitely the best professor that I have had this year. He has a great sense of humor, which makes the lectures fun and interesting. It's pretty much impossible not to pay attention in this class. If only all of my teachers were like this guy. This is the one class I actually have looked forward going to. He's not bad to look at either.
I Loved this Class! Mr. Larkin is very loud and enthusiastic, so it is impossible to not pay attention. Highly Recommend!
Professor Larkin is a great teacher. He helped me a lot with the papers that were due. He's very animated, which definitely keeps the class interesting. He asks a lot of thought provoking questions that will make you question your own being, including religion.
Literally, the BEST professor ever. The kind of professor you want to become friends with after. He is definitely very smart and passionate about philosophy. Extremely charminghandsome & makes learning a doosy! Compelling& thought provoking lectures, sensible, objective & enlightening! Prob will be my favorite prof ever. Definitely recommended!
Dan is simply a must-take teacher. You will have to do alot reading but he does not demand much more than that and attention during class. His lectures are engaging, non-biased, tell-it-like-it-is and his sarcasm is always perfect. He is an has a great sense of culture, very down-to-earth and LOADS of simply hilarious stories. You won't regret it!
Such a good professor! He makes philosophy fun and interesting. I actually loved paying attention to him, he is funny, a GREAT story teller, and very very cute. If you come to class & put a little of an effort in you will make an A!
Larkin is literally the best professor I have ever had, an absolute must-take, even if you're not that into philosophy. You'll love his class. Lots of reading, but all of it is interesting, and he explains it the next day of class so everyone is always on the same page. Great stories, great jokes, and he emails you all the reading material.
Dan is my favorite teacher this semester thus far! He's very energetic, has a hilarious personality, and is also super hot!! I would seriously retake the class if I could! He makes the class super intriguing and I love it!
One of the best and most entertaining professors I've ever had. A+ on all the exams and I'm not even a Philosophy major. You will learn soooo much in his class. Also the personal stories and examples were hilarious.
Dan is so cool and knows what he is talking about. His lectures are very engaging and the material is very interesting. Take his class. He is a good time.
Seriously one of the BEST professors. A lot of reading, but he goes over the material! Very knowledgeable about Philosophy & enthusiastic! Some of it can get confusing, so attend class. Overall, he was GREAT, tells funny stories too. Recommend if you take philosophy.
He is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you do the reading and take notes in class you'll do well. I would highly recommend him for fundamental issues in philosophy. Awesome lectures, awesome stories, if you put the work into it and show up for class you will pass the exams with aplomb.
He's a great teacher! Although the material can be quite difficult, but he explains it in such a way that almost anyone can understand it. Be sure you read though, because his tests consist of writing essays over the material. He has a great sense of humor and is a really smart guy, you're missing out if you don't take him!
Dan is by far the best professor I've had. He did a great job of making the material interesting and easy to understand. His hilarious stories are reason enough to never miss class. He never lets you know what he really thinks and does a great job of making you think critically. I would take him again if I could.
His lectures are engaging, entertaining, and incredibly helpful in understanding the reading. And there is always time before or after class to ask him questions about anything philosophy-related and get a solid answer and a fun conversation. He's very personable, and every student I have talked to likes him as well. Definitely recommend.
Really good professor! Does well incorporating ideas from philosophers into regular lingo. Enjoyed his class because it was fun, interesting, and I learned a lot.
I have never experienced a professor/teacher like him. He is the most understanding person I've ever met, and he really loves what he does. If every teacher in the world was like him, our education system would be remarkable. He made me excited about learning again.
As a freshman, Dan Larkin has exceeded all of the expectations I had for College professors. He is there to help, gives you adequate feedback, and is hilarious. He explained Philosophy very well, and related it to every day situations the class could relate too. I would take him again if I could, such a good teacher and **EXTREMELY**good looking.
One of the best classes and professors I have ever had. Maybe even the best. Recommend this class to everyone, you won't regret it. My favorite class this semester, never ever got boring.
He was a fantastic professor for my PHIL 3001 course. He is very understanding, clear and gives honest feedback on writings. I can't imagine anyone having a hard time in his course, as long as you try.
he makes the readings interesting! i can honestly say that he makes me laugh at least once during every class period
Dan Larkin is one of the most talented and down-to-earth professor I have ever met. He is conversant with every topic of class discussion and as a result, students are always energize to ask questions. Mr Larkin will always stop to answer any question posed by any student. Therefore, he is a great teacher in the making.
I cannot tell you how fun this guy is! I mean, coming in, I was expecting this philosophy class to be like the God's Not Dead movie. But, Dan went above and beyond, to be swell.. He really does take the time to help all of us and to make each class thoroughly enjoyable! He gives easy readings to do for homework, and we do have tests. Still AWESOME!
If you're seeking a philosophy class that's fun, engaging and enlightening, don't hesitate to take Prof. Larkin. He's hilarious and keeps your attention the entire time when learning these complicated, philosophical concepts. Most importantly, he genuinely cares what you think and have to say and that's what makes the class experience so awesome.
Very good at explaining the class. Makes philosophy fun and very unbiased. I was scared to go into philosophy because I have heard that some professors are very strongly for a certain belief. He makes sure you never feel wrong for what you believe or what you think of the readings. Also very funny. Great class.
Mr. Larkin was by far the best professor I have had in college. His lectures are hilarious, but very interesting. He makes you think about what you are reading and really understand everything. He is great with any questions or feedback that you need. Although the exams are tough, if you take notes and pay attention in class, it is easy. TAKE HIM.
Dan is an awesome professor. He understands that the curriculum can be tough sometimes and gives really clear lectures on them. He is really enthusiastic about the course, too. He will love you if you participate and the class is interesting so it's not hard to contribute your opinion. One of the best teachers I've had.
He's so passionate about what he is teaching and he makes the lectures very funny and entertaining with his bubbly personality. He assigns nightly homework, but he is so lenient and the readings are so interesting that it wont really feel like homework as long as you keep up with them. DEFINITELY recommend this teacher! Hes amazing.
This guy is a rock star. If you want to have fun while learning philosophy, take him. I wish that all professors were like him. Also you must be a little open minded and not too sensitive when it comes to religious beliefs because there is a lot of discussion about religion in his class.
Professor Larkin is the best professor i've had thus far. There is a lot of dense reading material for homework, but he explains it in class & relates it to things we deal with now to better understand and remember. He should have been a stand up comedian, hes hilarious AND HES HOT! I've never paid so close attention in any class. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
I would definitely recommend Dr. Larkin. Very passionate about his job and makes it fun for everyone else. Holds open class discussions and will meet up with you if you need further help beyond class. One of the best teachers I've had. He is also really hot so you will be very interested in his lectures!
Dan is the man. I've never seen someone so passionate about their subject and also make it fun. He makes everything understandable and fun. I've never laughed so hard during a class while I actually learned stuff. He's the one class NO ONE sleeps in because you want to listen to him. Tempts me to actually get a minor in philosophy.
This is one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. He starts off his class each day with a "Band of the Day". It's cool to see professors having same interests as their students. He is so passionate about Philosophy that it makes me want to become a Philosophy major. Also really understanding of anxiety and doesn't call on students. Great teacher!
Amazing professor, encourages YOU to think critically and formulate your own opinions. Very unbiased, interesting class. Also, the professor is very energetic and really explains the information well.
I began Philosophy thinking it would not be something i was interested in. Thanks to dan, i look forward everyday to the class. Not only is the material learned fun, but can be applied to ones everyday life. You will not regret taking this professor, i dont.
If you like Philosophy and professors who love what they do and give really in-depth discussions about a subject, Dan is your guy. He shares countless personal stories and is really engaging in the class environment. Definitely recommend.
I have really enjoyed Mr. Larkin's class this semester. He is very funny and genuinely passionate about philosophy. He tells relatable, funny stories that keeps you engaged, and is a very unbiased person which is pretty rare these days. Also he is extremely (extreeemely, like seriously) handsome so that counts for something right? haha
You will most likely only have two grades in the class: two essays. If you actually try, you will make good grades. I did not read the excerpts given, but I participated in the lectures and made a 98 on my first paper. He will also edit your paper before you submit it. Honestly wants everyone to do well. Isn't biased or opinionated.
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is extremely engaging and gives great lectures that capture your attention on philosophy. His class makes you stretch your brain to consider the different sorts of mindsets as well as possibilities about human goodness. Definitely take his class no matter the major.
A more apt name for this class would be "Dan's life class." My favorite thing about Dan is he doesn't take sides. He genuinely wants to explore all sides to an issue. My only criticism is directed at the other students in the class. As with every philosophy or English class, get ready to experience some of the most extra people you'll ever meet.
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are engaging and interesting. He knows the material well and is heavily invested in student success. Would 100% recommend taking this professor.
Really Funny! Definitely keeps your attention every class. Only downside was that there was a LOT of reading. Dan explains it all in class though. Take him.
Mr. Larkin (or Dr. Larkin), is cool. The class is cool. He likes his rules, so follow them. He likes to joke so thats a plus. Compared to other classes, this one has a light load especially if you like to read. P.s. If u like to skip class, dont take him. #PopQuizes #EasyHomework #NoMercy
Dr. Larkin is genuinely amazing, and genuinely wants the best for his students. The papers require a lot of thinking, but it is worth it! Take him! You will learn so much!
Dan's fervor and ardor are intoxicating and contagious. I've said a million times that I wish Dan could teach all of my classes. Dan Larkin makes philosophy accessible to everyone, people who are are exceptionally adept at reading dense musings, and those who may have trouble understanding it. You don't really need the book but you would do better.
Dr. Larkin was a caring professor, that explained mistakes to help you succeed on the next paper. Make sure you do not skip class, and if a lot of you skip class he will give pop quizzes. There is also a lot of reading for the class too.
Dan is by far, my favorite Professor at U of M. His lectures keep you engaged, he has a real passion for what he teaches, and he cares about his students. You would have to TRY to fail his class because of all the help he offers. He will meet with you after class, give you pointers for your papers, and explain things 12 times if thats what you need
Dr. Larkin is a fun energetic professor. His lectures are great and he encourages you to challenge him.
Dr. Larkin is an amazing professor! I took his last semester, but he still inspires me to this day. I was terrified of taking a phil. class because I was afraid I could not understand the dense readings, but Dan went over literally everything in each class. He is super understanding and funny. If you go to class, there's nothing to worry about.
I love Dan Larkin with all my heart. Not only is he a total babe but he makes class very easy to come to because you know you'll be entertained and really learning what is being taught. He's passionate about everything he's teaching and he really works to form a relationship with his students and make sure they are confident in the material.
This class is so great. He gives real-life experiences in relation to what he's teaching. I really feel like a learn something every day I go to his class that helps me open my eyes to the world around me. So yeah without a doubt if you're going to take this class you'll enjoy it.
Dan is the whole reason Im now a philosophy major. The coolest professor Ive ever had, hands down. He really cares about what hes teaching, and it shows.
He is just an overall amazing teacher.
Dr. Larkin is the best professor I've ever had. If more professors were like him college would be so much more enjoyable. His lectures are interesting, he makes Philosophy interesting even when it's hard to understand, and he truly cares that everyone understands the material rather than giving homework/assignments. His "tests" are papers! Easy!
I learned so much in this class and even use the arguments I learned here in some of my other classes. Didn't ever even want to skip. Every time I thought the reading pretty much covered it all, he had more to say about the topic. I feel like I learned a lot of history and other types of philosophy just from the examples and anecdotes he gives.
As long as you read the material and try to speak or ask questions in an engaging manner (and show up for class), you will enjoy and learn a lot from this class. A simple, easy, and enjoyable class with an energetic and eccentric professor.
Lectures daily but the lectures are interesting class discussions.
Doctor Larkin is the best! I love his lectures and he will definitely make you laugh! Make sure you read though, because you will not know what is going on. Also make sure you actually participate in class, because it makes a big difference in your grade!
Taking this intro to philosophy class with Dr. Larkin has opened my eyes to understanding philosophy better. He is a great professor and is always open to answer questions. Not attending his class really upsets him (but if you are there, you will receive extra credit points). There is alot of reading to do, but the assignments are easy.
Dr. Larkin is the professor that is single handedly responsible for GSUs philosophy department growing so much. That should tell you something. I honestly enjoyed his class and what he taught so much that it has influenced my own philosophy! But I will warn you he has really bad ADHD so it can be hard to follow him sometimes. Still recommend though
