Pretty cool guy but don't let that fool you. He moves pretty fast and there's alot of reading and quizzes. You'll have a paper due one after another but he's always willing to help you if you ask.

A really cool teacher, I really enjoyed his class. Definitely take him, he's a good teacher.

Very good teacher. Always willing to help. But very picky w/ papers. Getting an A on them is almost impossible unless you are a fantastic researcher (he's a real big on research). But a completely passable class though. I recommend him.

He's a really nice guy and is always willing to help. No homework- just a little skimming for quizzes. Gives extra credit on final. One of the best english teachers at UCF. Has a sense of humor too! This class was fun.

If you want an excellent instructor and someone nice to look at when you first wake up, take Professor Martin. He gives you second chances on bad papers, the quizzes are easy if you study a little, and there is no homework. Take him!!!

Very good teacher. He will explain things clerly regarding the cores and all the other assignments. He's also very helpful if you need some advice for a paper. He was a 100% improvement on my last teacher.

Mr.Martin was very cocerned about the classes overall success. He was helpful and open. Looks like a student and was liberal and open to different views. Easy to understand and communicate with! I strongly recommend this class.

Very easy teacher and class. As long as you try, he is willing to go the extra mile. He usually lets you rewrite major papers if you get below a 70. He also does little quizzes here and there(which are easy and help boost your grade.) The only bad thing is he is hard to get a hold of. E-mail-doesn't reply for a week, office-never there.

Prof. Martin is an AWESOME teacher. No matter what, he will always make you laugh and have a great time in English class. He is always willing to help out, and he is very concerned for his students. He is picky about some things with papers, but it is all for the better. 4 core assignments, you read a book, and several quizzes. TAKE HIM!

Prof. Martin is a fabulous teacher. He is young, liberal and extremely concerned about the overall success of the class. A bit picky when it comes to essays but willing to offer advice on how to better them. Easy on the eyes as well! I highly recommended him since it's a gen-ed class that you can't get out of.

I'm shocked at some of the reviews on here. He very clearly knows what he is doing, and he presents things to facilitate our understanding of them. He's always willing to go over papers if WE take the time to go to his office hours like every other professor. He advocates drawing your own conclusions and critically thinking. A fantastic educator.

I don't know why it seems that everyone thinks he is a jerk. As long as you go to class, pay attention, and participate you will be fine. It is definetely not an easy A class but he has made me a better writer and I know that it will pay off in the end. If you're not lazy I would highly recommend Prof. Martin for Comp I. I really enjoyed his class.

Professor Martin was an awesome teacher. All you need to do is go to class, do your work, and particpate. The work wasnt very hard at all and he helps you improve your writing. =]

Class is fair, and the grades you get on your papers is basically your end grade for the whole class. Make sure to visit him during office hours and get his ideas and opinions on your writing. Don't miss a lot of classes and the quizzes are usually easy as long as you read the book and comprehended the material.

Professor Martin is a great teacher!! Go to class, participate, and go into office hours and you'll have no problem with the class.

Grades papers kinda hard but fair; he just wants you to think about your writing a bit more than other professors. Discussion based class. Clear about assignments. You will learn something in this class. Nice looking man too.

Tries to be stern, but it's an act. he really is a nice guy. He knows his stuff too. I learned so much about critical thinking in this class.

Class was mad fun. Enjoyed going to it. He definitely keeps it real.

He was intimidating at first, but as the class progressed i really started to like him. He made me have an interest in english that i had NEVER had. It's a semi-difficult class, so if you don't like english, don't take him. All of the talks/arguments in class are super interesting, too.

WOW! Definitely my favorite prof here at UCF. Hes gorgeous! IF you know what ur talking about and actually do the assigned reading he will be more than willing to help you. Be active in class discussions and ull earn his respect. Writing is important but he grades fairly. Made an A. Easy if ur willing to try!

This is by far the best teacher I've had the pleasure to learn from at UCF. He abandons the commonplace "store and regurgitate" method of teaching and replaces it with a truly interactive style that compels even the the most negatively predisposed students to learn and enjoy. This teacher will most likely change your life.

He is very helpful and class discussions are really interesting. There are a couple quizzes which are made to improve your grade they are super easy. There are four core papers and he really gives you as much information as possible so you can get a good grade on them. He is a fair grader. It was not hard at all I got an A.

This class is great. People on here are crazy.

If you're a real student, take his class. You will learn a lot. Stern, funny, and fair.

He is a great teacher, I learned a lot, and I would recommend taking his class as long as you are willing to put in the work. He is a very fair guy and is always willing to help as long as you are willing to work.He has definitely made me think!

Great Instructor. Not really that difficult if you go to class and put forth some effort. Amazing personality, very funny, but can and will get serious if provoked.

This class is really cool and interesting. We discuss things and laugh. He can be tough but this is college.

He's a really nice guy but if you contradict him, he's a bit of a jerk. Assigns a LOT of writing, if you're not a big fan of English, I wouldn't recommend him.

Great class and nice professor. Challenging but not impossible.

Class is discussion based. 4 papers, and he grades them. Really helpful if you go see him. Always available for advice. Makes you work for the grade but it's worth it.

Good professor. Four core papers that aren't exactly easy, but not extremely hard. He is very helpful and always available for help. Does his best to work with you and explains assignments well. Lots of class discussion that keeps this class interesting if the class participates.

I liked him. He has a cool teaching style, but he does ask a lot from you. Grades papers tough but there are other grades that balance things out. You will learn a lot of different things.

I had Dan for comp one and i loved it. So far it is the best class I've taken at UCF, i didnt really appreciate him though til I got stuck with another professor. If you're a good writter take him I ended up with an A. But the great thing about him is zero busy work only 1 group project, book quiz oce a month & 4 papers u pick topic, so eaasy!!

WOW. Some people on here are crazy. Martin is not conceited, he's just really sarcastic. I had him for both 1101 and 1102 and he was really good. I don't ever rate on here, but after seeing some this BS I had to.

Professor Martin is amazing! He's very easy to talk to and very helpful. Even though he can be sarcastic, he really does care about his students. If you want to pass, go to his office hours and attend all his classes! Also, this class has a lot of class discussions, so be prepared to participate!

Professor Martin is the best professor I've had in school. He is a "difficult" Comp. professor because he actually makes you work. He seems concieted and rude but I assure you it's only when you act like an idiot or a tool. His grading is extremily fair. If you have questions, go to his office. If you don't understand, ask to clarify. He cares.

I'm in Martin's 1102 class right now and I can assure you he does not single students out, nor is he intentionly rude. I've seen him be extremely helpful to students on many occassions. He cares about students, and I know for a fact that certain students in that class don't do anything but complain because they have to work hard in his class.

Prof Martin was very helpful if needed. Let's you re-do papers, and also gives a big extra credit assignment. He's a nice guy, I'd def. recommend him for English

This is the only class I'm taking right now that I absolutely hate. Martin's cool and all, but the subject is so boring so there's only so much a good teacher can do. And I guess it doesn't help that the class is friggen hard (in addition to me hating the subject...) Might want to find a teacher whos not so passionate about english if u hate it

Personally, I liked Professor Martin. He expects you to read and complete an annotation for about 15 articles, most of them aren't too bad, and they're not pointless readings because you use them in your papers. He gets upset if you dont read but He only has 3 core papers which is a definite plus! Final is only a portfolio, super easy!I Recommend!

A very nice guy. but he is one of the more difficult Comp II teachers. All my friends had super easy assignments, and we had this massive research paper of death, plus other assignments throughout the year. You have alot of writing in this class to do. SO if you don't like to write, don't take him. But he's nice..

Martin is probably the funniest guys I've ever met. He makes writing class tolerable.

Martins honestly a good professor. I thought he was hilarious. Hes pasionate about writing and is actually pretty helpful. He does expect you to work hard, but hey this is college, the whole point is to get something out of the experience. Overall the class isnt that bad, and yes you need the text book.

Here's thing: if absolutely hate writing, this class sucks. HOWEVER, every comp II class requires a huge research project. I think he is a good teacher; this class in general is just difficult. This class requires work, but so does every comp II class, and people who say it is impossible are just lazy. All in all, Martin is a good professor.

This class is tough, but Martin is a really great teacher. he inspired me to do real research and I hate writing. You have to earn the grade.

I liked Martin. He doesn't really like students that don't care about school or education. If you care about your work this is the best class you can take. He will teach you a lot about research.

People who complain about this professor obviously want to get a free ride throughout college. Do the work and effort and you'll do fine. Show up to class and don't fall asleep or text or you will get singled out. Not really unreasonable considering you're in a college level class.

You're going to get what you deserve in this class. He is very fair, and a very good teacher. Not the most exciting material though. This is not a play around class either. Professor Martin is laid back but very serious.

Professor Martin is great. One of my favorite professors at UCF. He's very clear about what he expects and very helpful. However,he really doesn't have patience for slackers. Be ready to put in a lot of effort and you will get the grade you deserve. I learned a lot about research in his class and he made me actually enjoy it which I didn't expect.

Took Martin during the summer. He truly cares about whether or not you understand the major concepts. Excellent professor. You have 3 major papers that you can revise and a ton of discussion posts. This is not a class that you can half ass. You have to work for your grade.

Professor Martin is an excellent teacher. He makes videos for students for feedback on papers that I've never seen before. He's not super easy but he loves what he does s that helps.

Dan is a excellent teacher. He very engaging with his students and wishes the best for them. I would take again and as long as you follow his lead. You will pass and earn yourself a good grade.

This class is A LOT of work!!! Be prepared to work hard. He's a great professor though! Really makes a point to see if you're doing well and if you understand what's happening. If you work hard its a good class for you... if you're lazy then pick another.

This class is organized really well and even though the material can be tough, he lets you revise and teaches you writing skills that make it really easy to complete the papers. Not much to complain about. The class discussions are really helpful. The professor is knows everything about writing.

Why would someone choose to take a course over summer and then complain about the workload. Best professor I've had at UCF. His comments and feedback are spot on.

Professor Martin's class was really cool and I learned a lot of stuff about digital writing that I never thought of before. He's just passionate about teaching so you do need to come to class and actually do some work.
