very intelligent teacher who really got me to like the subject. Class participation was high and overall class experience was great.
Spectacular professor. Passionate and interesting.

This guy is awesome, he really knows his stuff and he brings a great atmosphere to the classroom! This is a gen. ed. class, so if you don’t know what you want to take to fulfill the requirements then I recommend this class with this professor.
Knows his Stuff but is an **** when it comes to grading dont trust him if he tells you youre getting a good grade
Awesome!
Blah blah
He is the best professor I have ever had, and I am taking a second class with him now. (I LOVE IT!). He presents the material in a way that is approachable even to a layman, but this does not degrade the quality of the educational experience. Very engaging classes and appropriately challenging work.
Anybody who needs to take an Ethics class take this man. He is the best teacher at NEIU
Dan is a GREAT guy, one of the best instructores at NEIU. Very interesting class, especially if you like to ingage in arguments and ugly discussions. I would recommend this guy to everyone.
Incredibly fun. He presents potentially boring material in a quirky and stimulating manner, gets the class involved!
fun teacher.. layed back and flexible
best teacher ive ever had, amazing, fun, helpful, soooo intelligent, will change your life!!
Dan is the man. Take him for ethics and whatever else. - Two papers and a final - easy... He cares so much, perhaps too much, about YOU. One of the most open, curious people I've ever met...Oh, and let me just say, for all you ladies out there, he's hot... So yeah. do it.
he's just the best. really makes the material accessible and fun if you're not familiar with your Kants and Descartes. And if you are, its great stuff, with one smart dude.
best professor EVER! easy to listen to, class is ALWAYS interesting, you get out what you put in. not too strict at all but very clear on what he wants from you. truly an inspiring professor
Awesome teacher on of the best I had in NEIU. Funny and helpful, his explanations are very clear and modern. Although he is hard grader class is fun and I strongly recommend him.
Dr Milsky is a good man, tries to teach his classes in a fun way, if you are attending all the classes there is no way you are not going to pass. Very smart guy with lots of philosophical life experience, his lectures are funny and interesting. Strongly recommended professor.
Easily in the top 5 teachers I've ever had. Great knowledge and sense of humor. Kept the class interesting and made me look forward to attending. He got me to major in Philosophy. You're the best Milsky!
I'm taking my third class with him, and I'm not even a Philo major or minor! EVERYONE needs to take AT LEAST one class with Milsky. He has an amazing sense of humor, extremely intelligent, and you will walk away with so much knowledge... take Milksy... he will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
Fall 2006. Grade was based on the finial, two major 4-page papers, and smaller writing assignments and various imput journals. You are responsible for readings. Attempt to attend every class though attendence is not mandatory he does take note who is there and if they are paying attention.
Best professor ever. Really funny guy, very passionate, and the class is easy. As long as you do the work you'll be fine...textbook is recommended but not essential for Intro to philosophy. Never a dull moment in the lectures or discussions, his words will change your life and make you question all kinds of things. I cant think of a single con.
Did not like his style of teaching. Can be offensive at times. Easy to get an A but class can get boring.
Amazing professor. He is supposed to be offensive, and he will expose you to lots of new ideas and new ways of looking at the world. He will change your life.
Milski is an awesome teacher. He's really passionate, insightful and funny. However, he grades very harshly. It's almost impossible to break the 90% mark on a paper and it would take an act of God to get a 100%.
212b-medical ethics. milsky is great; his class is always interesting interactive & often hilarious. i noticed criticism of favoritism & offensiveness & pressume this is just a misinterprutation. ethical issues can be offensive & he simply appears friendlier to people who participate. a's ARE quite rare... but b's are such cake!
Really a clear teacher. He's pretty firm on what he wants, but he'll help you get there too. Really makes you thinks outside the box and lets you argue whatever way you want...
Presented difficult material in an understandable way. Five 2-4 double spaced papers, and a 6-8 Final paper. Two worst grades will be dropped (not including final paper). He?s sincere, funny, knowledgeable, and a good person. He doesn?t grade easy, but helpful. Lenient on the papers and attendance is not mandatory, but FAVORED. Influential class.
I've taken Ethics and Phil. of Sex with Dr. Milsky. Both classes were phenomenal. He is one of the few professors that everyone should take the the opportunity and privilege to learn from, and he will change your life. Taking classes with him is not just getting more credit hours, it's bettering yourself as a person. Milsky ROCKS!
this class was environmental ethics. i dont care much for the environment, however, the class was still fun. milsky is a great teacher and makes things interesting. this class was a bit tougher than medical ethics, then again it is a 300 level class.
Dr. Milsky is among the best profs at NEIU. Passionate, smart, accessible, and above all, fun! I highly recommend his classes!
Dr. Milsky is an excellent teacher. This class is ridiculously fun, and it's a great class for people who are very vocally opinionated. There was four papers, we were able to skip one, and one final paper with no tests. There is assigned reading everyday, but no other homework besides the papers. He was really helpful out of class.Excellent teacher
Dr. Milsky is by far and large the best professor I've ever had, EVER. He incites enthusiasm in the students, incorporates interesting and provocative materials into his syllabus, and is beyond helpful. He is always more than willing to help inside and out of the classroom. If you're interested in Philosophy, take his classes.
Class was fun. Tough grader.
Milsky is hilarious. I always look forward to coming to class. Time flies by in his class because it is NOT boring. There are no exams, only papers. Talk to him about your papers because he is really helpful and if you work hard you will get a satisfying grade. Overall, definitely not an easy A but I think this is a class everyone should take.
By far the best prof I have had so far. class is interesting all the time he is a really cool guy and I have learned so much this semester. He is a tough grader but thats only because he wants us to better ourselves. most real professor at NEIU and always down to help whenever. Take ethics with him !!
Considering how bigoted a lot of male philosophy professors tend to be, I was pleasantly surprised to see how often Milsky intertwined feminism into his lectures. I'm glad there's someone out there willing to discuss this and keep it in mind during discussions, as most of the boys in my class were complete idiots, he kept them under control lol.
Dr. Milsky was awesome. Taking his class was one of the best college experiences I have ever had. He is funny and he doesn't have a strict nature. His class has a lot of dialogue and your participation matters! Take him! He's good!
Three papers and a take-home midterm exam. He is a tough grader on papers, but he grades fairly at the end as he coaxes and rewards class participation. The lectures might offend at times, yet they will get your mind moving. Not a cakewalk class, but recommended nonetheless.
Not a easy course at all. He's a cool profesor and all but he's too hard on the papers. And his essays make no sense. Don't recommend him at all stay away from this professor.
A lot of outside work will be required in this class. It's essay focused but a thoughtful, well reasoned, passionate essay can earn an A. Class participation is absolutely vital, but also rewarding. He wants students to show him that they care and are passionate. It would be a waste to take him and not be willing to give the class your all.
This class isn't worth the stress stay away. Essay's are worst than english papers
This is not a easy course. He's a ok professor but he grades very hard on papers. Isn't clear on what he wants you to write . Don't recommend
First day of this was ok. I thought this was going to be a course i like but ended up being the worst class I ever had. This professor is anti republican and tries to convert you into a democrat which I think is wrong. Also essays are hard extremely hard
I don't recommend this course. It's very very very to get a good grade on the papers I mean extremely hard. The guide lines for the papers are very difficult to understand. Exams are based on the philosophers in the text book. If you want a easy ethic course I don't recommend this one
Make sure you study very very hard on the exams. This course is not a flyby class so don't think you're just going to walk in and get a A. Papers are literally impossible to get a A. I recommend seeing a tutor on campus to help you write your paper and peers because if you don't put 110% in your paper you will receive a F.
Very very hard course to pass. Please be cautious to make sure your essay is perfect because he's very strict when it comes to writing papers. And he's a hardcore democratic so If your a republican stay away from this teacher because you will feel uncomfortable.. he's very anti Trump so I recommend republicans stay away from him
Hes a very funny guy which makes the class fun but he is a very hard/harsh grader on his papers And exams.. even though he's a very funny guy and nice when it comes to grader he does not play around so give this class your all
Very hard class indeed. In order to receive a C You have to go to tutoring at least once a week for this class because this professor expects you to forget about your social life and responsibilities to give your all to this class. I don't recommend this professor of you don't want to go bald with the work load.
I really don't recommend this course.. If you need a ethic course take Mr. Zimmer he's awesome. Milsky is a very hard professor who expects students to give anything to his teaches .
Best class I've taken at Northeastern. I had fun. I highly recommend. However, I like the subject of philosophy and can write papers. I think a lot of the bad ratings are from students who literally can not write. So if you are one of those students, maybe check out someone else who might have an easier rating. It's only 3 papers.
Very hard course. I'm very good at writing papers. I had to drop the course due to it being very difficult.
Teaches well, invites questions and then insults you for 5 minutes. He is cool. Maybe the smartest man I know.
As long as you actively struggle with the concepts in class and in your writing, you can pass this class. Skim readings before class, read in depth while writing papers. It is difficult material, but not too much work to keep up with. I'd take any class taught by this professor for the entertaining sessions and manageable work-load.
For a genreral requirement course. I don't recommend this course. His teacher style is very difficult to understand. Three papers are require in this course. Which is all the class work. If you fail one paper I recommend just dropping the class because he's very strict on his grading.
I recomend this teacher for students who are majoring in philosophy. If you are majoring in anything else stay away! Hes a very funny down to earth professor which makes the class interesting. Also invites class discussions. This is the only problem with this teacher. Hes grading is ridiculously harsh. There are 3 papers and 1 Exam.
Great teaching. Class discussion is always encourage along with communication. Easiest class I ever took ! Recommend for anyone who loves philosophy and who like soft work load. Only 1 Exam the whole semester.
Fun and hilarious guy. Also the class gets you to think, and touches on great topics. In order to do well, you NEED to read and understand relevant philosopher's ideas AND INCLUDE necessary vocabulary with explanations to do well on papers. He grades tough, but he wants to see that you read and understand the topics. Great class!
He's extremely knowledgable in the field, and if you're engaged it's not hard to pass. If you can think ethically, argue your POV, and make sense of the reading you need to do then you'll be fine. He's more than willing to help, like will repeatedly tell you to come to his office, so might as well. It only helps your grade.
Best professor I ever had. He gave me a hard earned F. I recommend this course for all majors if you need this course.
This is my first philosophy class, Dr. Milsky is very caring teacher. I had no idea what philosophy was about. It's not an easy subject, but i did try and i showed him that i'm trying and he really helps students that are struggling but at least trying. he's great professor just show up to class and meet him in his office hours you will be fine.
Very interesting professor, would defiantly take him again. It's philosophy don't expect to get A from nothing , you need to work hard.
amazing professor, great lectures.
Milsky is the one commenting all the good reviews. Overall he not a bad person, but the granding is very hard. He needs to realize failing many students is not bettering them. He invites class discussion. Brings his persaonlly ethical experience to class. Very knowledgeable in ethics. But tends to be a little rude at times to students.
No philosophy class is ever "easy", and papers are needed to demonstrate knolwedge. Milsky is always available to talk with students, and to help those who are visibly trying. He is a very passionate professor and you can see he genuinely cares for his students. If you work hard, he'll reward you with the grade you deserve. One of best professors.
Milsky is awesome. Make sure to come to class, do the readings, participate in lecture, and go to office hours. Not an easy A, you have to put in the work, but it'll be worth it.
I have no complaints. Best course I ever took. Class is based off 1 midterm and 3 papers. If you want a hard class that challenges you I recommend this one
This is not a course just to take and think its a automatic A. A lot of outside reading and studying will be neeed to earn at least a C- . Milsky graded very harshly so be ready to read and focus on everything he says.
Even though the class was challenging, this professor does a great job helping students during class and during office hours
He was very passionate about the subject and loved participation from his students. He gives very inspirational and thorough lectures. Overall, very funny and down-to-earth professor. If you show him effort and give him thoughtful and clear responses in the assignments, you'll be good to go. I really enjoyed his summer 2018 Ethics course!
I thought this was a ethic course. It was more of the understanding of histocially philosophers and there beliefs. This class is extremely hard and wouldnt recommend to someone who is just taking this course as a elective. Milsky is a very harsh grader. Class discussion is a positive thing in this course but everything wasnt good.
AWESOME
Dr. Milsky is by far the best professor I have ever had. You must take his classes, his lectures are extremely inspirational. I didn't know I had such a passion for Ethics until I took his classes. Not only do his lectures provide you with an education, they leave you with happy memories. He is informative and hysterical at the same time.
Well to start off hes a very down to earth professor. He teaches in ways to relate to his students, but its just a very harsh grader. I think the first day of class he needs to explain that to students who arent majoring in philosophy. One thing I like was his class discussions he would have among his students. But has stated. Harsh grader!
I recommend this class for people who are majoring in philosophy. His teaching methods arent bad, but his grading scale is very harsh. Class is consist of writing papers. Hes very strong with his views which I believe shouldnt be known to students as a professor. Attendance is a must you will fail if you dont show up. Also dont fall asleep.
This Ethic class was very difficult. In my opinion, a professor shouldn't push their political beliefs or views on students. Course papers are very tough, there are three total, so if you get one bad grade on one you might as well drop out the class. Overall, wouldn't recommend this class.
I took Honors Phil213 so I assume it was more challenging than phil213, but I loved this class. Content was interesting and discussions were great. He is great at answering your questions. He gives good feedback on papers and lets you do revisions. I got an A just by doing the work. Would recommend only if you like ethics.
I think hes a wonderful professor and I actually think that he was very fair with allowing different opinions in the classroom. He is hilarious and so entertaining. This sounds lame but I was actually kind of excited to go to this class. Highly recommend.
great
great talks a lot very helpful and give you feedback
Amazing professor, very easy to understand. He taught difficult topics so everyone could understand! The class was fun and entertaining, he really valued class participation in discussions. I took this class during the pandemic, so everything was over zoom but he still managed to make class fun and enjoyable. By far my favorite professor so far!!
Hes amazing. You gotta participate and put in effort like read and try understand the concepts. Philosophy is not my thing but he tried to help me understand. Take him and you wont regret it. Theres a midterm and final. A couple short papers here and there
AMAZING CLASS & PROFESSOR. Should be a requirement for EVERYONE. First you will look at different philosophical perspectives. Then, you will look at different ethical issues. Finally, you will apply your own views and perspectives you learned to the issues. Ultimately the goal is internal consistency in one's own morality views matching actions!
Hands down, the best professor I've ever had. After taking this class, you will transform into a more enlightened individual. I enjoyed attending his class, not only because of his funny and eye-opening lectures, but also the dynamic of the class. Students genuinely enjoyed voicing their thoughts. Essay topics are hard, but I enjoyed writing them.
Milsky is one of the best profs I've ever had. He is understanding and very accessible outside of class. It takes a bit of time to understand his sense of humor. He cares deeply for his students and for the subjects he teaches. His high level courses are much easier than his lower level ones. Do the work, show up, and participate, and you'll pass.
This class might not suit everyone. If you're seeking an effortless elective, consider another professor. The grading on papers is rigorous. While well-intentioned, the professor tends to impose their political views on students.
Drawing from my own encounters, I hope this message isn't removed, as my sole aim is to assist students. The professor allowed us do get extra credit but giving him a good review by showing him during class. Balancing my commitments as a full-time student became challenging due to the substantial time this course demanded.
Very funny and caring, but expects you to care about the work your doing.
If you believe in God and aren't an atheist, he will try to make jokes about God and claim that God doesn't exist, then apologize and say he is just being funny and use philosophy as an excuse for the discrimination comments. He will grade your paper and give you feedback, making you feel like your work is worthless and you aren't good enough.
I advise you to think 10 times before taking a class with this prof; he has shown me discrimination against my religion, made fun of God in his class, and encouraged people to be atheists. Be careful. He uses philosophy as an excuse for his hurtful comments and racism. Be AWARE
If you don't agree with his political views and beliefs you aren't likely to pass his classes. By taking his class I lost time, money, energy. I advice you to be aware.
Dr Milsky is a great professor, I honestly really liked his class. He had a great way of explaining extremely complex and long philosophical and ethical ideas and he had a great sense of humor, that helped him explain these ideas. Recommend this class a lot.
He is the worst.
Not a Safe or Stable person to take a class or learn, has nothing to do with philosophy; he never covers the subjects, opens up side topics about his boring, unhealthy, empty life, and his disapproval of God's existence. Verbally Harasses women saying they wear red lipstick to attract men. Save your money time, take a class with a different person
If you want to avoid frustration, I recommend choosing a different professor. He often brings a bag covered in political stickers, including ones supporting Antifa and anti-capitalism. The course frequently deviates from the curriculum, becoming focused on his political opinions rather than the subject matter.
Be cautious when writing a review for this class. The professor might monitor reviews and report negative ones, leading to their removal. This is a challenging course—I failed despite my efforts. Honestly, it feels like the positive reviews could have been written by the professor.
This course is quite challenging, and I had to withdraw to avoid receiving an F. I highly recommend getting a tutor for extra support and collaborating with classmates on the papers.
The professor has been teaching at the university for many years. The class often veers off track with discussions about current events and personal opinions. In my opinion, the papers are quite challenging. Attendance is mandatory and is factored into the overall grade.
I strongly believe that the majority of the positive reviews for this course are written by the same person. This is not an easy course, and if you're planning to spend your hard-earned money, it's simply not worth the risk. I'm currently struggling to pass the course myself.
Be prepared to dedicate a few hours each day to assignments. The professor seemed very approachable and kind on the first day, which gave me high expectations for the class. Unfortunately, as the weeks went by, I realized I should have paid more attention to the reviews.
This professor has good intentions, but I wish he would be more respectful and understanding of others' viewpoints.I recommend reading both positive and negative reviews to determine if this class is the right fit for you. Also, it's best to listen rather than engage in opinion based discussions.
Dan Misky begins class by claiming that his bad reviews come from students who don't know how to write. Unfortunately, he seems better suited to being a debate instructor, as he constantly argues with his students. If you want a easy class, I don't recommend
PLEASE READ.. Do yourself a favor and read all the reviews to determine if this professor will be right for you. Half of the class dropped the course half way through the semester. Feels more like a English class
The teacher is knowledgeable but a tough grader, with unclear grading criteria that make it hard to succeed. They often push their political views in class, which can create an uncomfortable environment for students with differing opinions. A more neutral, balanced approach would improve the overall experience.
When a professor has an overwhelming number of similar reviews, it raises suspicion, almost as if one person wrote many of them. This professor heavily focuses on grammar in papers, making the class feel more like a challenging English course. Additionally, the professor tends to debate students with differing opinions on certain topics.
Milsky is a professor that takes stuff to personal and challenges students opinions. The papers are unbelievably hard. He starts the class taking about his reviews as if some sort of achievement. Attendance is mandatory and you will get dropped from the course.
Well professor Milsky is one of the hardest professors I ever had. If you are spending your hard earn money for your education make sure you avoid at all cost. He starts the class explaining all his bad reviews are from horrible students. He just push his left wing ideology's on students. Please just stay away
The person that is saying the reviews are written by the same student is actually the professor, he is mentally sick to the point were he creates student accounts and writes his self good reviews, I passed his class with my effort, all he did was speak about how he is F A T and lonely, he has so many insecurities and makes students uncomfortable.
Save your money and time from this professor, he is NOT mentally stable, there are better professors that give the same classes. The second week of class he said that women put red lipstick because they want to flirt and attack men, he speaks bad about overweight people because he is extremely obsessed. Unsafe environment, makes you feel harassed.
This course was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. The papers are very difficult. He can come across as offensive when you question his views. He is a socialist or progressive, so those with more conservative views should keep their thoughts to themselves. He is very strict about grammar in papers. I do not recommend this course.
Here's a revised version with improved grammar: “Who writes reviews claiming they have the greatest professor ever. It gives you an idea of who's writing them. This class is extremely difficult, with only three papers, each harder than those in an English class. The professor pushes left-wing ideology on students. I wouldn't recommend it.”
Hard course. Pushes political views. Research papers on philosophers. Want to get a A? Not going to happen. There's other professor that teach the course, so avoid milsky at all costs. Lecture heavy. Invites class discussion than bashes you on your views. Do yourself a favor and run.
Hard course. I had to withdraw from the course just a week in due to me seeing how the course was going to be. Professor stated in the first class that the reviews are from disgruntled students that don't know how to write. Don't recommend
Take my advice, there are other amazing Philiosphy instructors at NEIU who studied philosophy and care for all students' success, this professor shouldn't be considered a human, I won't even bother to listen to his horrible lectures about his wife and lame unhealthy routine, he spends most of his class yapping about his empty life.
This professor taught Bigfish151515, but I didn't really understand the meaning behind it. The course was very difficult and challenging. Politics are often discussed, and if you lean right, it's best to avoid engaging in those conversations, as it could negatively impact your grade.
He's great however you don't show up to lectures you're going to miss topics. Also if you can't remember terminology then the highest you can get on the exams (3) is a C. Sometimes he lets you choose terms or another essay which isn't too bad. Recommend if you actually show up to class.
He is one of the most caring professors you will ever find ANYWHERE. Once you hit the higher level courses he lets you write about pretty much whatever you want to, as long as you can argue it. He listens to student input and can be persuaded to change his mind on things if you can explain your reasoning. I can't recommend him enough!
Caring and passionate about what he does, his classes are always interesting to go to. If you pay attention to his lectures and read the texts he assigns, you should be ok, just don't miss class. Only 3 essays to be graded from, but he provides extra credit. Overall great professor. If you're a good writer, I recommend his class.
