Dan is a fantastic teacher! He changed his lecture style to what we were used to, and was really easy to follow from there on out. He ended up providing us with A TON of slides, example tests, handouts, and notes to work with. Highly recommended (especially for any class that has biochem).
VERY good teacher, loved all of his slides and presentations. Easy to talk to, and he shows he cares. Best Chem teacher I've had. Period!
I'd recommend Dan to anyone taking chemistry. I've actually started to really like chemistry during this quarter, and the class has covered a lot of topics. Lots of support material, relatively straightforward exams, and optional attendance. Highly recommended.
Dr. Mitchell is phenomenal. I LOVE chemistry now because of him. He will sit down and walk you through anything you're struggling with, and gives TONS of handouts to work with. Best chem teacher I've ever had. If you want to get a good grade as well as understand chemistry, take Dan.
Best Chemistry instructor at BCC. You can tell he cares about his student's understanding of the subject. Always available to answer questions, and tests aren't hard if you study. TAKE IF YOU CAN!!!
This is the best teacher ever!!Seriously, he helps you a lot with anything you need. His power point presentations are really helpful and the discussion classes that he prepares are excellent. His test are not easy but not hard, you just have to study. He makes you enjoy his class. Best TEACHER ever at BCC! Take any CHEMISTRY class with him!
Dr. Mitchell helped me so much with chemistry this quarter and he isn't even my instructor. Take advantage of his study center hours and office hours, since he will help anyone. He has such simple ways of explaining things in chem that just make sense. He has a great attitude and is very approachable. Really a great teacher.
He's not only one of the best teachers on campus, but he'll even take time out to help you in other subjects, even if you're not his student. He really cares, and it shows. :)
He is an absolutely incredible instructor and has a lot of enthusiasm. That being said, he is not easy. Don't equate good with easy! Ochem2 was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, so be prepared. However, getting an A in his organic chem class was the most rewarding experience I've ever had in college. Strongly recommended.
The best o-chem teacher i have ever had!!He really cares about his students and wants you to get a good grade! His tests aren't really easy but if you study you will do just fine!I wish i had him for 263!!
The best chem proff i've ever had. He is very talented as a teacher and explains everything in a good and clear way. Before his class i feared and hated o-chem (because of the Goldston and Owens at HCC), but after his class i love this subject. Class is tough,so study hard. Finally he is young, handsome (with a beautiful eyes) and pleasant. Diana.
Dan was awesome at teaching ochem! I understood what he was saying, he was good at giving alternate explanations, he had tons of practice problems available, and really made me feel confident in my knowledge of the subject. I would recommend him to anybody taking ochem 2. Study hard! He's not impossible but you HAVE to study.
Dan is an awesome teacher, and has a great personality. Very nice and young fresh professor. I didn't study the textbook, just the lectures and notes and I got an A. Make sure you come to discussions, where he will talk about how to solve problems (these will most likely be on the exam). You still will need to do work (like all science classes).
I loved loved loved his class. He still helps me with chem when I need it even though I am not in his class anymore.
He is my favorite professor of all time. He is very nice and will help you with whatever you need help with for as long as it takes. Highly recommended
He is really helpful and nice. Study his powerpoints and take notes will be fine. Tests are not that hard. highly recommend his classes.
He is a very nice and helpful. He is also very respectful of his students. he is very clear and always ready to help you. If you listen in the class to his speeches, and take good notes, and do your hw (which by the way is always online on the masteringchemistry website) you will be absolutely fine and it should be a pretty easy A for a chem class.
I can't say enough about Dan. He's the best professor I've ever had. He is so extremely helpful, and he honestly wants all of his students to succeed. Unlike other teachers, he doesn't make you feel like an idiot when you ask questions, and will devote time to help you understand, using interesting examples. I'm now thinking of being a chem major!
Had him for two quarters, probably the best professor i'll ever get. He is awesome at lectures, and everything is delivered smoothly. He makes the class fun with many witty anecdotes and funny chemistry facts. Always there to help, though tests aren't hard if you attend class. TEACHER OF THE YEAR in my book.
Chem 161 & 162. Most amazing Chem professor ever!! He makes it so easy...tough material but you really understand the concepts because he knows how to teach. Provides lots of resources to study & prep for tests with. Always helpful and genuinely wants you to succeed. Very nice. Great sense of humor. Loves caffeine. Wouldn't take with anyone else!
If you have to take chemistry you would be foolish not to take Dan Mitchel. He is by far the most helpful teacher at BC and really wants you to learn your chemistry.
It would be nothing but Foolish to not schedule everything else around him. He is The Only teacher who can make overwhelming materials effortless to learn. Lectures and notes (his PPT slides) are very organized. Great sense of humor. Very current and carries that into his teaching style. No wonder his (ex-)students rave about him all the time.
Loved him. Always willing to explain and made challenging topics easier to understand. Super nice and available to help with online quizzes (hardest part of the class IMO) before they were due. Powerpoints were wonderful. He is quiet though, so make sure to sit in front!
Dan is an awesome teacher. Loves the subject, crystal clear lectures, enthusiastically answers any questions. Could not be a more helpful instructor. Great sense of humor and an expert in his field. A very forgiving grader, often giving partial credit for wrong answers, but you will still earn your grade - he is not a pushover.
He's my favorite chemistry teacher. Exams were pretty easy. He is very good at making things clear. He's intelligent and also a very good teacher. I'd recommend him to anyone who needs to take chemistry.
Dan is by far the most amazing and helpful teacher I've had in all of my schooling. He knows his students by name and cares more about them loving chemistry than throwing useless information at you and expect you to understand. because of his class i am majoring in chemistry! which i never imagined myself doing.
Amazing teacher. Has a demanding schedule but always makes time to help you even if you can't make office hours. Not an easy subject for me but I've done well because of how clear and helpful he is. I base my schedule around getting into his classes, and it's worth it! You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't learn chem from him. AMAZING.
Very good at explaining things and liberal with points, as long as he can tell you know the material. Talks kind of fast, but you get used to it. Labs are challenging, and I personally rarely used the textbook. Will take again for any other Chem class. Highly recommend this teacher!
Dan is a great teacher and makes the class relatively fun. if you study hard and attend class you'll get an A.
The BEST teacher ever!!! He is funny, his lectures are entertaining too. Dan can explain things the way everyone can understand! Tests are easy. I would recommend this teacher to everyone! I loved my chem class! You can actually learn a lot from the class.
I can't praise Dr. Mitchell enough!Take his classes.I took Chemistry 161 from Mitchell this past quarter and learned so much from his class. He really cares about his students and their success. He will spend time with you reviewing any questions you have on the homework, tests, etc. My biggest mistake was being to shy to ask him for help. Ask!
Take his Chemistry classes. That's all I can say!! BEST TEACHER IN THE WORLD!!!
Dan is dedicated, both to chem and teaching. An enthusiastic lecturer, easy to understand and always willing to put in extra time with students who need more help or who want to know more. Makes the material accessible. Structures the course to ensure you're doing the work along the way so it's tough to fall behind. Highly recommended.
If you don't take chem with Dan you are missing out. He cares about his students and will always find time and ways to explain things to you if you're having trouble. He has a busy schedule but if you put in the effort he goes above and beyond to help you. I wish every teacher was this good. Go to lecture, do your assignments, you'll do well.
Dan is a great teacher! He is really clear and helpful, and he has random witty jokes during lecture. The class itself isn't easy, but if you go to Dan for help, you will do well for sure.
Simply put, Dan is the best chemistry teacher at Bellevue. Go to class, do the homework, form a study group, complete all his handouts and review them over and over. If you have questions go to his office hours. If you do all that, there's no reason why you can't get an A. You're missing out if you don't take chem with Dan
Clear, helpful, dedicated. Has like 5 office hours EACH DAY, but usually crowded. Dan sent me a random email last week to check up on me because he felt I was falling behind on a specific thing... who does that?? I've taken easier classes than 163, yet I got worse grades and understood a lot less. I feel like an expert. The difference is Dan.
Never had an instructor care more than Dan.He's always available to his students (and students in other classes!)He explains things clearly but if you don't understand, he'll find a different way to explain. He'll grade tests into the night to get them back quickly.Do the work and you can't help but succeed. You can't do better than Dan.
Great teacher! Very helpful, really cares about teaching and the students. Tries to explain things so you can understand. No surprises on tests. Very fair grader. Tries to make class as fun and entertaining as possible. Lets you know what to expect for future standardized tests (mcat, etc.) Highly recommended!
Not for the faint of heart, this class is HARD, but no one cares more than Dan and what you put in you will get out.Don't put off studying, and don't plan to coast, but he wil help you in any way that he can and this is a FUN class if you are ready to work.Very *fair* grader, but not an easy one.Easy to reach via email, on campus long after class.
He truly cares about how well you do and offers all the help he can give. Do not take if your not willing to do work. There's ALOT of homework every week, a quiz every week and difficult exams. The material is tough and boring but Dan does his best to make it interesting and easy. Has a great sense of humor and his love for chemistry comes across
Love Mr. Mitchell! Hes the best science professor I've ever had. If you try to do the homework and a little bit of extra problems and study for the tests you should do well. Hes very open to answer any questions and constantly checks his email. I would recommend to any and everyone!
Dan is awesome! Another rater on here suggested to schedule all your classes around Dan's class. I followed this advice and pass it on to anyone taking chemistry. Dan is an amazing professor and super helpful, even after the quarter is over. He is a professor who truly wants you to succeed and is more than willing to help you do that.
I picked him because of all these great reviews and even though they are all true, this class IS VERY difficult. Lots of homework, memorization, quiz each week, and the final is cumulative including things you learned the first day of class. Yes, dan is a great guy but unless you put in about two hours a day dedicated to chemistry, you wont do well.
There's a reason the wait list for Dan's class is a mile long - he's clear with his expectations and lectures, he cares about his students and if you put your best effort in, he'll get great results out of you. Never thought I would be interested in chem but Dan changed that with his knowledge and commitment.
Great teacher, there is a reason why it is hard to get into his class. Will take through Chemistry 163 and into OChem.
Hands down the best teacher you will ever have. He is absolutely the clearest teacher you can have, you will never be confused about anything so long as you ask him about it. His knowledge of the subject goes well outside of the standard curriculum, and to top it all off he has a pretty funny sense of humor. Don't even hesitate--take his class.
Dr. Mitchell is legendary. Somehow he makes learning Chem interesting and fun. He answers every question clearly and with interest. I could ask him Calculus questions and he would help me out with no hesitation. Dan is also the type to not directly answer your question, but to make you answer it yourself. He's the best. Take his class.
Dan, this guys the man! He's one of the best professors I've ever had, along with one of the most approachable and friendly. I seriously recommend basing your schedule around his class, you won't find a better chemistry professor!
Freakin awesome. if you have to take a chem class, make sure its with michell. Best prof at BC
Dan Mitchell is a chemistry GOD! He teaches what you need to learn in order to succeed later on. What sets him apart from other professors, especially at BC is the fact he is so passionate for his students to succeed. This includes returning e-mails on a Saturday, giving out his personal cell # all just to explain any questions. He also lifts!
If you are taking Chemistry at BC, you have to take Dan. Crystal clear lectures, tons of resources on the course site, and lots of office hours. If you're stuck on something, drop by his office, he's almost always there. Really LOVES answering questions! I took the whole GChem sequence with him, and I would recommend others to do the same.
TAKE HIM!!! I can go on about how great Dan is but u should experience it for urself. After having him for my first quarter there was no way I would take another chem class if he wasn’t my teacher. He is SUPPER helpful and wants u to do well and ACTUALY cares about ur success. Not too easy not too hard. Teaches so its not hard to do well. Great man
Took for intense 262&263. Dan goes into precise detail on every point-easy to follow along. Dan happily answered hundreds of my questions, and always had helpful answers. Depth of knowledge was incredible. Got a 97th percentile on ochem portion of PCAT. Got accepted into pharm school today. Lab partner got into UWSM. Ochem is easy if you take Dan.
I had Dan for 162 and absolutely loved his class. I was thrilled to be able to take him for 261, and he was even better than I remembered. I recommend to everyone to schedule their classes around Dan. He is the best teacher out there. His class is fair and he wants you to succeed. Study hard and you'll do well.
Dan is incredible. He teaches you everything you need to know to be prepared for the next level, and he provides everything you need. He seemed to extract the best effort possible out of everyone while still making it a fair workload. Great experience.
Hands down, the BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER! I took the introductory sequence with him, and have since moved on to the University of Washington through two additional sequences. Nobody compares! You will learn with a genuine guy. Though a year has passed, we still frequently talk about our time in his class. Dan is the best!
He is simply amazing. That's all I can say. Must take him. Do whatever you can to take him. You'll thank me later.
I took the intensive Organic Chemistry with Dan and now I see why people say what they do about him.. he is LITERALLY the greatest ever. He actually cares about your individual understanding of the material, and he wants you to succeed. He actually makes OChem fun, and he's hilarious. Take him.. you will not regret it.
Schedule all classes around Dan's. INCREDIBLE professor. Truly wants to see everyone succeed. Prepares you for standardized tests, and gives plenty of resources. Always willing to help and answer questions. And he's hilarious. Absolutely the best professor I have ever had!!!
Class wasn't too hard. Very similar to Chem 121 or 140 just a few new concepts. Dr. Mitchell is awesome. Great teaching style and willing to answer questions. Prepares you well for future classes and careers. He is funny and class was always interesting. Tests were fair but can be challenging if not prepared. All in all great class!!
Too much time doing examples, not enough explaining and clarifying concepts beforehand. I'd rather spend an hour learning instead of practicing what I don't understand. Book is more useful at explanation, is also organized better than his notes. You'll learn more reading book before lecture than from studying his notes afterwards.
I sat down to ask this guy an organic question and instead we talked for 2 hours about my plans at the UW. He seriously got me motivated about my study habits, and it seemed spontaneous. The experience was surreal. He really cares if you succeed in class and in life. He also makes ochem a breeze. (Show up and ask questions, and study early.)
Dan Mitchell is an incredible instructor. Not only is he available, he is interested in his students. He wants every student to succeed. I became enthralled with Organic Chemistry because of his teaching ability. If you are a visual learner/ just need extra help, Dan is your man. BTW, he turned down a job at UW because of their awful structure.
Best academic experience to date!! If you are able to take o-chem with Dr. Dan, you MUST!! Every positive thing everyone has already said is TRUE! You will grow to LOVE o-chem. (summer intensive ochem student)
He is a good professor, but he's not very easy going. I recommend him.
He will make you study if you want to pass. You'll definitely learn lots of chemistry. Don't miss his lectures. His way of teaching is very clear. You still have to spend time studying by yourself. He knows his subject. Obtaining a good grade is not easy but doable. I would recommend him to anyone who is going to science field.
Dan is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. He is always available if you have question and he cracks me up in class so it makes the subject really entertaining. Not to mention how attractive he is physically and his personality. Ok I sound creepy. He's a good teacher. Take his classes.
I took Chem 161, 162, and 163 with Dan and i would definitely recommend him as a teacher. he does a good job of explaining things and connecting new ideas with things we have learned in the past which helped me learn. he gives out weekly homework assignments and quizzes and posts big sets of practice problems before tests which are very helpful.
Smartest & clearest teacher I met at BC. His lectures & discussions set you up ready for his exams. Exams are not easy. In fact many of my classmates found them difficult. But if you listen carefully and practice, you'll do fine. I lost more points on labs rather than exams. Still managed to ace both chem 161 and 162 with him.
Better to read book before class if you want to get a good grad
His tests are tough and he is kind of a harsh grader but he sometimes curves the tests which is fair. If you need help, he is always there to help. Overall I took his class based on all these reviews and realized that he is definitely nothing amazing. Although I didn't enjoy my quarter with him but I recommend him.
He puts a lot of pressure on students. He is so picky on labs. He takes 3 tests that is supper hard but he gives practice that is helpful for testes. he gave a lot of online HW. each week u have online quiz. if u want learn chemistry i recommend to take his class. But if you want "A" don't take his class it is supper hard.
For some reason he'd never answer my emails but otherwise he's readily available to help students and reexplain concepts during labs and lectures. His homework and examples are really useful for pre-exam studying, so you won't need to read the book unless you need clarifications. Hilarious and sometimes sadistic, but Dan really loves teaching.
He's is a great teacher teacher and makes organic chem more enjoyable, really straightforward and his lecture were great. You can absorb his lecture right away on class without reading book ahead. But it doesn't mean you would get an easy A without practicing. Recommend take him
Dan's way of lecturing and writing exams are super straightforward. I found it super easy to remember Chem, and his study guides for EACH exam are extremely helpful. As long as you study at home and review the material frequently, this class shouldn't be painful at all. Overall, I enjoyed Dan as my professor very much and would take him again.
Dan is the man! He is a great teacher, straightforward, funny and concise. Take him for as many Chemistry classes as you can. SERIOUSLY. His exams are challenging, but focus on the main ideas in each chapter and you should do fine. Pay attention when he lectures and do all the homework problems. There IS a reason his classes fill up first!
Average explanations, has office hours, but helps one/two students at a time. Picky on labs and grading overall. You do need help outside of his class to get an A, I got it from Goldston. I'm surprised by all great reviews, don't get biased by his humor, his actual teaching is just average. Put the work and you'll get A. Just don't expect his help.
Took Dr. Dan for the entire general chemistry and organic chemistry series at BC because he is one of the best teachers I've ever had. You can tell he loves chemistry and is very interested in helping other people learn. Go to office hours. DO NOT bs your labs. Practice the examples in class on your own, notes closed - they are exam questions!
He's a very good teacher and super nice guy that is very willing to help students that struggle, but don't expect him to hold your hand the entire time. The exams questions were quite a leap in terms of difficulty from practice exams and examples done in class so you really have to know the content well, same style questions but harder.
It's hard to fall behind in Dan's class because of the required coursework. Ochem certainly requires a lot of work, But it his class is really not too difficult since the test design and expectations are clear. There are a lot of very gifted and A students in class too. Sometimes he talks about mcat material... Very useful.
SUPER AMAZING TEACHER. LOVE HIM
Dan is amazing! His lectures are engaging, organized, direct, and willing to change depending on the class's weaknesses or questions. He made me fall in love with organic chemistry and it was the summer intensive course. His expectations are clear and if you follow his directions you will do well! Can't say enough good things! Take him!
Dan is the man!! And I haven't even finished his class yet. He is super clear with his expectations and requirements. His lectures are well engaging and interesting. He is super nice and willing to help you with anything pretty much. Wish I could've taken him before. He is beyond just a good professor. He is who you want to learn from! TAKE HIM!
Dan is great! He is really smart, humorous, his tests, although you NEED to study for them, are not that bad. He goes over everything pretty in-depth (but beware, he usually only has enough time to go over a specific topic once so pay attention and come to class). I'm going to try to take him for the entire CHEM series.
The lectures are very useful, as are any notes taken in class. Dan was awesome in the lectures, answering any questions and was always accessible outside of class. On top of that, his lectures were hilarious and he was always slipping in jokes, but he still covered the material needed. I highly recommend his class!!!!
He's an amazing professor. His lectures are easy to understand. He also provides a lot of materials to refer and practice. Listen to his lecture carefully and practice with homework, you easily get A.
Dan is an amazing instructor, who gives clear lectures and helpful material to learn from. His lecture style helps you learn while you're still in the class, which was very helpful for me as I took the summer intensive O-chem classes. He is always available to help outside the class, and provides clear answers to questions related to the lectures.
TAKE DAN! He is the best. I took him for the first two classes and it was amazing. Then for the third class of the series i had to take a different teacher and didn't learn anything. SO just take Dan. Take dan. Best teacher i've ever had!
Tall, handsome and hilarious. He'll be an amazing instructor and definitely keep you entertained.
Dan's probably one of the best professors I've ever taken! He made the class challenging yet enjoyable and is really knowledgable so you will be learning a lot. The tests are a bit difficult, but if you study hard you'll get a good grade. I'd recommend taking him throughout the entire chemistry series!
It is interesting to me that Dan has such high ratings here... not as great of a professor as his ratings might suggest. He is not a tough grader, but also doesn't teach material very well. Out of the three profs for the intensive series, I would rank him last. He is a nice guy and cracks jokes etc. but does not prep his students for his exams
An amazing professor. Dan presents the material in a very clear and organized manner. It's usually obvious what will come up on the quizzes. Generous grader and easy to get an A. By far the most caring instructor I've had. You will learn more in his classes with less effort. Everything is crystal clear and everything you need is in the lecture.
Everything you need is covered in class. Handouts and practice exams look just like the actual exams, so do those and you'll be well prepared. Lots of difficult material, but a fairly easy A if you keep up.
Great as a person:funny and friendly. But big fail as an instructor. Don't be fooled by his personality and study more than he requires. The gaps from his class will bite you in the butt in pchem and biochem. I got a 4.0 just by showing up in his class.
Dan is a phenomenal professor! He keeps his lectures interesting enough that you want to know more and yet informational enough that you're not wasting your time. His passion and knowledge for this subject is amazing, I would definitely take him again.
Prof Mitchell is one of the best chem teachers out there. I struggle in chemistry a lot and I'm a bio major. This was one of the few chemistry classes I fully understood. I left that class and actually learned something. I still remember the concepts today.
Brilliant teacher! I highly recommend him. Not an easy course, but Dan works with students to make sure they do well and master the material.
I just got into uw med; Dr. Mitchell helped me for four years to reach this dream. Always available, most knowledgeable instructor I've had, I learned useful study habits from his class. Class was well organized. The series was not easy (easier than bioc tho), so be careful with the guy giving the reviews about jokes and rigor. Writes good letters
Second time taking ochem (1st at UW). I love this class! Dan makes ideas clear and breaks reactions into easy puzzles. Given 10 years of old exams so you know how much to study. I usually knew what I was going to get on an exam. I feel so much better prepared for 262. Seems like a quarter of the class failed though (I thought it wasn't bad.)
I've heard that ochem can be quite difficult from other students but Dan's instruction was exceptional. He gave very clear explanations and had the knowledge to dive into anything you weren't understanding. As for tests, his first one went pretty "meh" but after stepping up my studying I did well on the next two and the final.
I fell way behind in this class. It requires a lot of work, but I went to the professor and he helped me get through it. Most caring instructor I've talked to and I was too scared to approach him. I told him there was too much homework and he cut it in half for the whole class. Lectures are fine if you can be alert at 730. Some days I couldn't.
If it is your first time taking a chemistry class then I recommend taking this professor. You'll definitely need to show up to class and study for the exams but he makes it very clear his goal is that you learn the material. Offers lots of extra credit, is avalible for help and the labs are usually fun and pretty easy. Fun guy all around.
Dan was awesome! I would definitely recommend him to anyone taking into chem. His lectures were easy to follow and for the most part he told you what to expect on the exams! Very nice guy
Very caring instructor with great lectures that focus on the most important parts of organic. His class may seem easier because he is a very light grader, but it still requires a lot of time and studying so do not slack off. He is one of the few chemistry instructors that is helpful during labs. His tests are very similar to the practice ones.
Hes worse at teaching, heavy exams Be ready to study on your own , hes good at grading , the quizzes are online which is good , but exams are every 3,4 weeks and he usually does put one question at (30) points which is sooo bad because if you get one wrong youll get all wrong, I dont recommend him at all after taking him for 2 quater now.
It surprised me that this was dr. Mitchell's first quarter teaching online. I've taken many online courses and Dan is now my favorite teacher. He had lots of resources, and would run class until everyone stopped asking questions. He explains the hardest concepts in clearest language with amazing explanations. Was a lot of work though.
Dan is one of the most passionate teachers I've ever had. He's super willing to stay long hours and help you understand the material. The tests are pretty difficult but if you put in the hours they match his old exams pretty closely. Great professor, just work hard and you will do well.
Dan's super great. He is always willing to help his students, and provides lots of practice material. He goes above and beyond and he really cares about his students. He's kind and is very interested in the student's education.
I highly recommend taking chem with Dan, one of the best profs at BC by far.
He is a real homie. He stays behind to help you learn, incredibly honest when he sees your mistake in lectures or quizzes, and explains how it happened so you can work better. He is hilarious, love his lectures, has a real passion for teaching, and is really interested in his student's success. Make sure you put in the work, and effort to learn.
Professor Michell is the best teacher Ive had at BC in two years. His lectures are extremely informative. He uses an online white board to expand on the slides in his PowerPoint and explain them in depth. In the lectures, he goes over a point a couple times to be clear. One hour lectures plus an optional hour to ask questions right after.
Don't skip lecture. You will learn as much as you are able and willing to learn. Mastery sucks. Deal with it. Respondus browser sucks and it was not always easy to scan my exams in in time. Tests were an absolute nightmare. Dan is tough but fair, and I would gladly take him again if he taught other classes I need.
Professor Mitchell is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He invests so much effort and time into helping people understand material and is super well-qualified. If you ask lots of questions and participate, you will get a lot out of this class. Take advantage of all the practice materials, study, and it will pay off. What a spectacular dude.
Chem with Prof Dan was amazing! He is a very dedicated teacher and runs the zoom call until everyone's questions are answered. There are 10 HWS, 8 labs, 10 quizzes, 3 exams, and 1 final. The lectures are very understandable and it is easy to grasp and retain all the info. He is also really nice and cracks jokes all the time. Best chem class ever!
Mitchell is a great option for chemistry, if you skip his lectures you will not do well on the tests. Be prepared for 15-20 point questions on a 100 point exam, he is generous with partial credit. 95% for an A is steep, and Dan will make you work for it. Hes a great guy and is very easy going in conversations. Accessible outside of class too.
Professor Mitchell is probably one of the best professors I've had. Especially in the pandemic right now, the guy has his own digital whiteboard and gives great clear lectures. He's also pretty hilarious and relatable at times. Don't expect him to be an easy A, but he's challenging in a good sense and if you could work for it I can guarantee one.
Prof. Mitchell is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Be sure to attend lectures as that's the main place you will learn the content but you will want to anyway. He always answers questions if you have them and grades very fairly. I did notice that he tends to use swear words often in his lectures but if that doesn't bother you i recommend him
Prof Dan had made learning Chem 162 so much easier. His lectures are so informative and easy to understand, and encourages people to ask questions. He is available during office hours and you can even contact him. You can tell that he wants his students to succeed. There are 8 labs, 10 masterchem, 10 quizzes), 3 exams, and a final (w/ lockdown).
You have to work for your grade for sure but Dan makes it easy to work for it. Class is spent efficiently and he is very helpful with explaining difficult concepts.
Dan is the best chem teacher ever, you will have to work to succeed this class but he really makes it easy. You can tell that he want his student to actually learn and succeed! I wish all science teacher could be like him
Dan is a very good prof when explaining what he expects. You definitely have to work and study for a good grade because even though tests aren't proctored, he makes it very clear you won't be able to find the answers online, and that's very true. He has a sense of humor and a group chat for class support. Overall great prof & class.
Professor Mitchell makes you work for the grade, but that is expected of a chemistry class. However, his lectures are super informative and he is overall a great guy. He is pretty much always available outside of class through the use of email, discord, or text. Quizzes are open book, exams are tough but he offers tons of study material.
By most the hardest class I've taken. The beginning is really tough but as you go on I feel like it gets easier since you get use to how his class works and stuff. He goes really fast in lectures and jumps into things so fast expecting you to have prior knowledge of it. The one good thing about him is that he grades really well.
I don't recommend this professor, his exams are really hard and he makes one question 40 points which makes you fail the exam. His word choices for questions on the exam were awful, It didn't match with what was on the review or hw so it will throw you off. by far the worst professor I have taken, but the only thing I liked was how he graded.
My experience was show up to class and take notes like it was in person and get an easy A. Most caring and dedicated teacher I have had. He's available 24/7 and has extended office hours, although the discord students were sometimes pretty rude to him. He talked to me for an hour about my career.
If I could give him 6 stars I would. The guy is in a league of his own. By far the most accommodating and genuinely kind professor I've ever had. The class is hard, skip and you will not do well. Dan is reachable at any time of the day, I wish I could have taken him in person. He gives advice about school and is hilarious. Take his class.
He is a huge saint. He goes above and beyond for the students. Always ready to answer questions any time of the day whether its personal, professional, and educational. For a man in the science field he is extremely cool/chill & laid back. Took him for intensive and I highly recommend. Tough class but Dan will help get you through it
The BEST teacher I actually ever had. He's really awesome, and he connects with students outside of class (usually via discord).
Prof. Mitchelle is literally the best Professor out there he makes a hard course super easy for you when I first registered for the class, I thought its going to be so hard based on what I read on his syllabus but he makes everything super easy for you plus hes always available when you text him and will get back to you so soon!
Hes the BEST! He encourages you a lot to work hard so that you can make it. I literally didnt like chemistry and wasnt good at it. But ever since I took his class he really encouraged me I got 3 100% in his class which was really surprising but hes the best he will grade fairly!
Dan is a gift from beyond to the STEM dept here. His lectures are amazing and really knows how to crack casual jokes all the time, but most importantly he makes one of the hardest classes on campus on the easiest because of how well he presents this material. An A is steep at 95% but theres a reason so many of his students get that.
Taking prerequisites for my doctorate. Of all of my professors so far, Dan is the best. Answers all questions. Engaging and fun lectures. Tough but fair homework/quizzes/tests (difficulty and amount). His examples and study guides are helpful. What you practice is what's on the test. He makes chemistry a fun, interesting, and empowering experience.
He has a great personality and teaching style. Uses powerpoints to annotate in first-hour lecture, and an extra hour for questions. Accessible outside class, over email, and via texts. Very responsive too. The class requires dedication and commitment to keep up, but relatively easy with participation and collaboration with peers.
Not good. He goes over the topics way too fast and doesn't explain them too well. The subject on chem 162 are not hard to understand if you have a good teacher explain them to you. But he makes everything appear so much harder because of how bad he explains things.
Joined Dan's 161/162 group late in 163. Big change from my previous classes. Seems like everyone in the class is an expert and determined. Went hard for the first exam and it went better than expected. Take if your goal is med school not just passing. Rigorous but not soul breaking at all. Listen to his test prep advice.
Hes just really good at his job, he makes sure that you learn gen chem and organic effortlessly, which is a hard job enough in itself with the complex world of chemistry. Take him if you can, and as long as you pay attention (which its hard not too hes
If i could take every class with dan, i would. He is available for questions in and outside of class. He was fast (this was an accelerated course) but SOOO effective at teaching organic chemistry. He made the class fun and had CLEAR grading criteria. The key to any class is consistency with the study schedule. OVERALL,AMAZING PROF.
Honestly one of the greatest professors I had. Very helpful and acknowledges your hard work. Self Study time guy for intensive org chem but he's always there for help. So funny and great sense of humor. Will really miss him teaching my other classes.
Dr. Mitchell is the absolute GOAT. O chem is not an easy subject, but with Dan conducting and guiding you, your chances of success increased ten fold. Obviously one needs to practice and study, but he gives the necessary resources to do so. Dan's teaching skills are exemplary and every professor across the nation can learn something from him.
Great professor. Easy to stay motivated and attentive. Much of the content and pace is clear and well communicated.
Dan is by far the best teacher I have ever had. There is not enough good things I can say about him. If you are going to take chemistry, take Dan.
Great professor. He makes learning the content simple and interesting. He's pretty good looking as well lol.
incredible professor, his lectures are super helpful and he's very entertaining. learned a ton in this class and it gave me very strong foundation for this sequence. absolutely take genchem with him if you can, i'm looking forward to taking ochem with him :)
Super chill teacher, very knowledgeable and always tries his best to help student questions. His office hours help a lot so make use of it! Homework is reasonable !
Best prof ever!! I've taken him for all of gen chem and ochem and he makes learning it a breeze. I wish I could continue taking his classes next year if it were possible. He responds quickly outside of class and truly wants you to succeed. HW and quizzes are "easy points" if you're paying attention. Exams are usually predictable based on old ones.
Took his 8am class and he was hilarious. I also might've been lacking sleep so I found things funnier than usual :/ First chemistry class I ever took had zero prior knowledge and I took it while taking calculus. He made me actually like chemistry, before this class i was on the track for civil engineering after this i chose chemical engineering. :)
He explains stuff so well, and I got an easy A. Just make sure to attend lectures. If you don't, you won't do well. You can ask people on a discord server for Chem 161 for notes and you can study with them. Make sure to actually study. The labs are really easy. The quizzes are so easy. Just check your answers with people on Discord.
Arguably the best Chem Prof at BC. Exams are so easy and he provides you with old exams that are exactly like the ones he will test you on with a couple of additional questions here and there. His lectures are also so damn good and he explains things with a great sense of humor. Lectures aren't mandatory but very helpful if you want to succeed.
I thought I hated chemistry, and I thought I sucked at it, until I took this class. Lectures are fantastic and best of all, he will NEVER waste your time. Everything about this class is efficient - every HW problem assigned, the quizzes, every minute of lecture. Take the practice exams provided. Form a study group. Dare I say chemistry is fun now?
Professor Mitchell was an amazing teacher for Chemistry 161. There was a lot of lectures (because there is a lot of content) but I would say no matter what type of student you are you will be able to excel in his class and he is also a great and funny person and I was never bored in his lectures! :)
AMAZING. This guy knows his stuff and you can tell he's super smart. Lectures were so good I never got bored. Lots of work but Chem 162 is tough so you need to be ready to work hard. If you wanna go into medicine, TAKE HIM. Has so many connections and you can text or call him outside of class at any hour to get help on stuff. So nice and funny too.
Tbh, I don't think I was deserving of an A- in his class since I averaged a B on his exams. You are allowed a 3x5 notecard for his exams, and two 3x5s on the final. In-person lectures make it hard for me to focus, but Dan was engaging and funny enough that it wasn't a waste of your time. Overall fun class, bit difficult. Would I take again? Yes.
The gen chem series is so foundational, I can't imagine taking it with anyone else. Dan is kind, funny, to-the-point, encouraging, and has a knack for explaining difficult concepts in a way that makes sense. Anyone who has taken him for at least one quarter tends to plan the rest of their courseload around his class. He's that good.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER DUDE IS GREAT DARK SENSE OF HUMOR LOVE HIM
I took Dan for all of the gen chem series and he is truly one of the best teachers I've ever had! He pushes you to succeed and WANTS you to, he's hilarious while still explaining everything in detail. His tests aren't always easy but there's tons of partial credit! He made me fall in love with chemistry and I am so grateful I got to be his student.
If you need to take chemistry, take it with Dan! You won't regret it. He knows what he's talking about and knows how to explain it in a way you'll understand. Lectures are just right, not too fast, not too slow. When he says you can text him questions, he means it and he will text you back! Generous with partial credit and wicked funny.
A great professor who makes the material engaging and digestible. Attending lectures is a must, as they complement the textbook well. unstuck study proved a helpful study tool alongside other resources.
best professor I've ever had! he's seriously amazing and you won't regret having him as a professor. I didn't find 262 or 263 as difficult as I thought because he made it seem fairly simple.
Dr. Mitchell is a wonderful professor who I'm really glad I had. Given the PhD, he's really knowledgeable when it comes to anything science-y and it totally shows. I had him for the evening class (5:30-7:40pm) which was rough, but that wasn't on him. Evening class + online is a bit rough for me. Despite the wonky timing, he's really accommodating.
I got a C on my first exam but ended with an A in his class (95% & above). I'm thankful he mitigated my first test score based off my improvement within the course. A tip: AVIDLY LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES and you can get an A; hw is lowk tedious but it's ok; He speaks a lil quietly sometimes cause of his hearing problem but he's a good & caring prof
This dude is solid. He explains concepts fast and effectively, while cracking jokes left and right. You never feel like a second is wasted or that hes unfair in giving work or tests. The course work in a week takes less than 4 hours with 4 tests and a quiz that have practice tests. If you want to learn and get an A, take this course.
