Great teacher loves his job, and it shows. Lectures are interesting. Test are a little difficult, but all econ tests are that way. Impossible to get below a B as long as you are trying and attending class. You learn alot.
This guy is really into his students and is extremely professional as far as what he brings to the table and what he expects from his students.
Great teacher!
Great Teacher! Fun, yet straight to the point! Easy way of learning Econ!
Very "groovy" teacher as he would say! I really enjoyed his summer class! He is very good at making econ make sense in the real world. The last few chapters were kinda dull but hang in there - he will pull you through!
Dan is ok-- he's a tad arrogant. Nontheless, he is a good teacher. I did enjoy the class.
Dan is very interesting and funny. He gives you every opportunity to get a good grade, through his help or extra credit. For this being a summer class, he actually made me not dread going!
I have had Dan for several classes. He is a lot of fun in class and does a great job explaining complicated issues
Mr. Owens is a wonderful teacher. He helps get the point across without stressing you out. Makes the dull material easier to learn. You can get a great grade in the class if you try. He will help whenever he can. Teaches with a true passion, you can tell he loves what he does. I HIGHLY reccommend this guy!
good guy. Keeps class interesting. Im in a 3hr class with him and never get bored. Also he is very clear and and gives homework that is very helpful learning the subject.
Very good teacher. Definetly knows what he's talking about and is good at teaching the material. He keeps you interested and the class doesn't seem as long as it really is.
Overall a good teacher, very engaging, kept things intresting. made the class fun, he knows what he's talking about. he actually teaches and doesn't just hand out homework....one con that i can think of - a little condesending to people who believe in god.. books you definately need the survey of economics but the study guide was not useful for me.
Dan is a wonderful teacher. He kept everything very interesting. I learned a lot in his class. It helped me with my every day spending as well. The study guides were very helpul. Attending class is a must though, have the book as well. Not necessary to read every chapter, but will be useful for the study guides.
Mr. Owens, a.k.a "Dan-O," is a great teacher, one of my favorites. He knows a lot about Economics and it definatly shows. He's a very helpful teacher and likes to keep things interesting. I mean how many teachers do you know that would come into class with an iPod blasting, and jump around to a Beatles song out of nowhere?!?
probably the coolest and fairest teacher i have ever met in my entire time at JCCC. Homework is good, and actually relevant to the course. a+++++
DANOH is the MANO!! Seriously, this guy is who you want to study Econ with. He knows what he is talking about, and makes his lectures relevant to everyday life, which makes Econ a hell of a lot easier. He is pretty strict about attendance, but if you go to class take notes and read the sections in the book, this class is an easy A. GO DANOH!!!
He is wonderful. Whether you are interested in the subject or not, you will leave interested and knowing a lot. He's very energetic and loves what he does. He's also very funny.
GREAT TEACHER! SO helpful, and makes a very boring subject FUN! Great guy in general, so down to earth. Like someone you would hang out with outside of school. If you need to take Econ, TAKE HIM! You won't regret it!
Dan is awesome. I've never met a teacher who tries so hard to help his students in any he can. He's funny and makes econ relevent to our lives so it's easier to understand. You have to go to class, but his classes are enjoyable, even a three hour night class. Definitely sign up to take his course.
He is great! Go to class. Ask questions. Do extra credit. Get an A.
He was very good. He knows a lot about the material, and he cares. I was hardly ever bored. He helps you, and answers questions. Tests and homework could be a little tough, but if you go to class and read the book, you will do fine. No projects or anything, just quizzes and tests (all scantron).
Dan made class fun and interesting. He takes a real interest in all the students. He is very organized and loves to teach economics. He's great!
Taking online Econ II. No tests or quizzes. Only weekly homework assignments. He is always available if you have questions. Slow to return work. The assignments were easy but makes you think. Overall, good teacher.
Dan Owen ROCKS!!! Take him for sure, material is well taught. Dan teaches economics using real life situation which is awesome! Great Teacher, I am following him through.
Before i took his class, i thought i was going to fail and had no confidence in myself. He taught me to be confident in myself and that i can do beyond the minimum, that hard work pays off. He has a GROOVY style and is always there for you, if your down, he instantly senses it and trys to help you out in anyway.
Dan Owens is a good teacher. Jokes can be a little dry at times but nontheless, his extreme enthusiasm is proven everyday in his class. I geniuinly enjoy his 3 hour class!
Dan does a great job at getting his students interested in economics. He has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject and always has an article, chart, or video, referencing economics in current and past events. He's also getting a hotness rating because there wasn't a coolness rating. He getting it for playing EverQuest... the original... L337 :P
If you are taking Economics Survey, I or II at JCCC, you don't want to miss Dan's class. Whatever you think about economics now will surely be revolutionized by his contagious enthusiasm that integrates economic theory with everyday examples.
Awesome teacher! He had me cracking up the whole year and he really knows his stuff. Take notes in class and you should get a good grade. He really cares about you and makes sure u do your best
A teacher with a passion for the subject that he teaches. The information has followed me into my other classes. All questions were deemed important! Prof. Owens is an outstanding teacher.
One of the best teachers at JCCC. Focused, entertaining, knows econ, and is very helpful with questions. He encourages class discussion, but keeps it under control. I would definitely recommend him!
Amazing Professor, I like the way he teach Econ, He makes so easy to understand. Also, he is really enjoying doing his job & that's why he is doing so good to make the material easy. I recommend him to everyone but you need to keep up with the notes.
Dan Owens is the all-time best professor i have ever had. He is very knowledgable and he's the coolest guy once you get to know him. Only take his class if you plan on showing up, because he doesnt want you to miss out on his mind candy. But that is the easy because the whole class looked forward to coming each day. Gives Extra Credit! Danoh RULES!
Dan is awesome!!! Easily my favorite teacher I have ever come across in my long, way overdue college career. Dan is extremely smart, unbiased, and eager to help everyone succeed in the class. He gives 4 homeworks and 4 tests, and there are no surprises on either. 95% of all the questions asked on tests/homework are within his notes. AMAZING guy
His notes are good. He is helpful.
Boring subject at times...Dan made it fun and understandable
I took his online econ class. I love it. I will be taking econ 2 online as well. There aren't any tests. You have an assignment due every week that has questions that you email to him every week. Plus you have partners on some assignments. Great class and great teacher!!
Dan Owens take time at the beginning of the semester to get to know who personally and says a personal goodbye at the end. His notes are detailed and the homework is based around it. Dan also makes class very interesting. I gained a lot of knowledge from him in economics. I highly recommend him for first semester students.
fun going class. easy...did not learn anything though.
makes class flow efficiently and everything in it fair and easy to understand! i'm now taking the second part of the class even though is not in my major! i like that he cares about people, not just their grade or class attendance! the econ book we used for macroeconmics is writen by a conservative economist and dedicated specifically just for him.
Dan O is a great guy who really loevs what he teaches. He encorporates funny videos and interesting world news articles to help aid in teaching and to fun to the class. I ended up taking both macro and micro becuase he made it interesting!
Danoh is the best professor ive ever had. i signed up for his macro course and was so taken in by his teaching that i signed up for the micro section. he makes class fun and genuinely cares about his students.
One of the best teachers I ever had. He is clear and very entertaining. I did not think before his class that economics and fun can be in the same sentence.
Dan Owens is a great teacher. I took his summer online course. Instructions and assignments were clear and easy to follow and he really did make the info interesting with his humor and fun explanations. I would definitely recommend this teacher to anyone that needs to take economics. Stress free and you actually learn something! Great teacher!
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Dan-O the man-o! Take his class if you want any shot at making it through economics and actually _understanding_ what just happened. The guy knows what he's talking about, and makes it not only interesting, but entertaining. Also, he's truly very interested in the success of every student, and makes it known. Excellent professor--take his class!!
he gets to know the students. so he doesnt just call your name he actually knows who you are and he also cares
Took his class online over the summer. Read the book answer questions that was all it was. Learned alot he was very helpful. I bought my book on ebay and turned out to be the wrong book and failed the first 2 assignments but he let me take it over again. Great teacher hopefully next sesmester he offers mirco online.
Hands down, one of the best professors I've ever had. He really helps you understand economics and almost gets you passionate about it too. If you have the option to take his class, don't hesitate. Do it.
He is the coolest professor ever!! However, still a professor so he acts professional. Take the class even if you dont need it. I took 230 & 231. He is crystal clear, and makes you understand and want to learn more.
This guy just "gets it". He understands students and how to communicate to them. He's my favorite professor ever and I learned a lot. 16 weeks of 3 hour lectures on Tue, Thur flew by. 4 homeworks and 4 tests all multiple choice. Everything about him and class structure is straightforward. Take Econ from Dan O.
Dan is the best professor I have ever had. Dan takes uses real world examples of economic principles and by doing so, he gets you excited about econ. Take Dan O, you will not be sorry. Tip: If you like Econ, sit in the back row.
Dan Owens is a great professor. He is willing to work with any student in order to ensure you receive the grade you want. He ignited an interest in economics in me and is one of my favorite teachers! If you are looking for a professor for macro or micro he is the guy!!!
I had Dan Owens for Mico and Macro economics. He is definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. Very passionate about teaching and what he teaches. Lectures were always exciting and I actually looked forward to going to class. I highly recommend taking this class!
Dan Owens is one of the COOLEST teachers around. I had him and Ms Hadley for both Econ classes (Macro and Micro)and it was a treat. Owens will get to know you and every start of the class he plays a music video. He is a cool dude. He knows his stuff and he makes Econ a fun class. Take him, you wont regret it...
Professor Owens class is easy if you study and pay attention. I would recommend him to anyone. He makes class fun and up beat!
Best teacher at this school by FAR! He is super funny, super helpful, all of the ways he teaches is super ensightful yet entertaining. If at all possible take any class he teaches, you won't regret it at all
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!!Even if you don't need to take this course to graduate take him. You will not regret it.
I took Dan for both ECON 1 and 2. He is great. He's not super easy, but not super hard either. All around great teacher. Really wants his students to succeed. As long as you do most of the reading and pay attention in class you should be good to go. Don't be afraid to ask him for help either.
If you attend class and pay attention (easy to do) the class is easy. Tests are variations of homework questions. Almost every test and homework question comes from something he's said in class. Very clear, helpful, and engaging.
Great teacher. And helpful with information about other schools in Econ.
Dan is definitely a rare gem amongst professors. He combines textbook, personal studies and beliefs, and course related material from other professionals in his lecture everyday. If you expect ot get by with an A, perfect attendance and good note taking is a must. Shows a different music vid each day and is highly approachable as well!
Third econ professor i've had. I've never grasped the concepts before this class, nor have I ever had a professor that makes a class so interesting and entertaining.
Dan is literally the greatest professor I've ever had. With him teacher, it is completely easier to learn the material. He turned a 3 hour class (2x a week) into a class that didn't even seem an hour. Tests consisted of problems from the homework (all multiple choice). Take him for Economics!
Mr. Owens was a great teach to have durring the summer. He made sure we were on task, obtaining a good deal of information and was helpful in all ways. I have recommended him to many people looking to take a course durring the summer.
great teacher
All material was covered directly from the text. He was very concise and his tests offered no surprises. Should you have any problems he is very realistic and friendly. Very rarely does he get off topic but he always has a valid point to tie it together. If you take his class, do not mention his t-shirt is inside out. Best teacher at JCCC
I was so lucky to have Dan as a professor for Econ. I took him for micro and macro. He prepared me for 300 level micro courses at business school and will go above and beyond what he has to do to get you a passing grade. Love this teacher!!
VERY HELPFULL AND CLEAR WITH EXPLAINTION
Professor Owens had a great teaching style. You have to actually attend his lectures to do well on the exams, which I liked. He teaches a lot of stuff out of the textbook, but also teaches the important stuff in the textbook. I enjoyed his class.
Danoh was really helpful to me being a person just getting back into the swing of things college wise. He is very engaging and makes joke/fun of himself and knows how to keep the classes attention. The material received was a good mix of the book and his lecture. Tests are almost directly from the homework. A++ good sir!
Professor Owens was a fantastic teacher! He taught wonderful, applicable material from the book and his experiences. He was clear what to study for the exam and would always take additional time to answer questions on the homework in classes. He is willing to meet outside of class to discuss class- and economic- related topics.
One of the best professors I have had, Dan made learning Econ. enjoyable. First of all Dan is hilarious! Always learned something new. This course was a good balance it was challenging yet achievable. Dan was not only a great professor but a great person he actually cares. Got an F last time I took Econ, got an A this time! GET IN HIS CLASS!
Only teacher I could tolerate in a three hour economics class. Gives the students a couple a breaks during the duration of the lecture. Uses the textbook better than any teacher I have ever had. Has a broad knowledge of introductory economics and many other random subjects. Offers easy extra. Taking him is a no brainer.
Excellent teacher. Clear and helpful. Tests are challenging but in a good way. Just study what he teaches you and use the homework as a study guide. After having a HORRIBLE micro teacher, I took this course with Dan Owens and it was the difference of night and day. Take this course-you won't regret it.
Professor Owens has been the best professor I have ever had. I am 25 and have been in and out of classes since I was 18. I am now a full time student, set to graduate soon, and Dan Owens provided me with a lot of confidence and a great education.
Loved his class, very helpful person for life lessons as well. I will use information I learned in his class in life and I don't think I have ever said that about a class.
Amazing professor! I had no interest in econ prior to this class, and now will be taking more classes on it. The homework is very straightforward. It's challenging, but very beneficial. I REALLY feel like I learned loads in this class. Dan's funny, friendly, and suggests counselors. If you find one of his classes is open still, TAKE IT!
The best teacher on campus. The reason my major is Economics is because of him. I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin last semester and I really do miss his discussion and the way he explain everything. Such a great teacher and such great guy. Pues eso :-)
Best teacher ever! He teaches in a more modern way. His class was my fav to attend. It was always interesting material and he know how to teach to a younger generation and give more up to date examples. He gave us many opportunities to earn extra points. He suggested everyone an adviser to help us with our goals in school. very helpful teacher!
Amazing teacher! Passionate about the subjects he teaches and the students he helps. He is always willing to work with your schedule. Very understanding and entertaining character! If your attending KU or JCCC TAKE HIS CLASS you won't regret it
GREAT TEACHER! His style of teaching is crystal clear and he teaches straight from the book. He does have attendance points so make sure to come to class! In addition, he gives homework which is due before you take the test which is super helpful! GREAT GREAT teacher! He is incredible :)
Dan is an awesome teacher. He makes class way fun and his lectures are full of knowledge. He writes his notes on the board as you go along which I find that SO helpful since I am a slow note taker. The mind Candy he gives his class is a blast. Would take Dan again. He also wants nothing but his students to succeed..
This guy is great. My only complaint is that JCCC does not hire this guy full time so I can take him next year! He made learning Macroeconomics fun. I was really afraid of Economics, but Dan is the man. I am now completely interested in Economics and hope that I can find a teacher half as interesting to teach Micro to me next year.
Amazing. A lot of the grade is participation.
GREAT TEACHER!!! He makes class fun and interesting . He's very passionate about his job and really wants his students to succeed. I would definitely recommend this teacher for any one taking economics.
One of my favorite teachers I've ever had. The material can be tough at times but Dan does a great job of breaking it down. Makes it a point to talk to every student and make you feel welcome. Also will put on a song or funny video once in a while to brighten up the class. He knows what he's doing. Highly recommended.
Most of the test questions he goes over in class. He writes everything out well on the board for you to copy. He gives you time to keep up. There is always a pretty test homework that is basically your test without the written questions. He makes it clear what test questions will look like. Easy A if you attend class. Makes lectures fun.
Great professor! Very passionate about the subject and is invested in the class. Made this class very fun!
Professor Owens was one of the best professors at JCCC. His passion for teaching and relating to students was excellent. The class is well organized and his lectures are fun and informational. Go to class, take notes and you will pass. He also allows you to make up multiple choice questions missed on an exam to get a better grade. Great professor!
Professor Owens is who you want if are not great at economics, he is very eager to help and will stay after class to talk to you. He truly wants you to succeed and allows you to do test corrections that he applies to your final test grade. You can get a A if you show up for class complete the homework and do the test corrections.
Dan is helpful, and his lectures are clear and effective. He's also one of the funniest people you'll ever meet. If you're looking for an easy grade, this class probably isn't for you. However, he does give students a chance to redeem themselves after exams. He wants his students to succeed in and out of his class. He's great, take this class!
This guy is awesome. I just finished my final with him today and I honestly wish he could teach every class needed for my Business Degree. He keeps your attention , he's hilarious and realistic . He doesn't want you on your phone but trust me it's worth it !
Dan is an awesome teacher. He's really laid back and will play music before class starts as well show relevant current events to keep everyone interested. Attendance is part of your grade so show up and get easy points. Homework is easy and he teaches to the test. He makes a point to meet with each student after class and give help with anything.
Great teacher, one of the best I've ever had!
Probably the greatest teacher I have ever had hands down. He is super funny and gives very great and engaging lectures. If you come to every class, do the homework, and study a little bit you should get an A no problem. Don't get on your phone in class though, he will emphasize this. He'll call you out if you're seen using it.
Owen is a great teacher!I slacked off this semester, and he worked with me on what I needed to do to improve. The downfall is the lectures! You hand write all the notes for the entire class period. I I told him I thought we should've done more projects! He agreed! I felt slow because his lectures are really intellectual so set up a meeting with him
I took economics online while I was a senior in high school. I talked to my high school teachers about my economics class and they would say "wait are you taking that class from Mr Owens?" and they would go on about how great of a speaker he was. I really wish I didn't have to take his class online but he was a great online teacher online too!
He takes the time to talk to each student at least once and has a unique perspective on how things work.
Professor Owens is a great professor who makes the class interesting and fun. He is well organized. His tests are very straightforward. Be sure to study the homework questions as those often appear word-for-word on the exams.
Dan Owens is my favorite professor I've ever had. Love that guy.
Dan is the best. I have taken him for Macro and Microeconomics. His class is enjoyable and informative. No busy work, just weekly homework that helps you retain what you learn in class. He genuinely cares about your success as well as his profession. He does his part plus provides extra help if needed, and as long as you do yours you will do fine.
Dan is one of my favorite professors at JCCC. He cares about every student in his class and wants to see them all succeed. His lectures are funny and he makes economics easy to understand. He does not assign any busy work and he is pretty straightforward about what is expected for tests.
Professor Owens is awesome! His material is really clear and easy to follow. He writes his own notes which help you understand the textbook better; they read like you're listening to him speak and are always funny. Highly recommend his class!
Dan is great at his job. He will write all his lectures on the whiteboard in a clear and organized manner. Everything you need to know for the exams will be in the notes you take in class. Study the notes and you will pass. I just wish I had chosen him for macroeconomics. Makes the class feel apart of his lecture. Fun class!
So basically, in Owens' online class he does an online quiz over each chapter per week and then puts his lectures in word document format for you to read. I learned more from the word docs than I did from the chapter! After you read the word docs he has "tasty" homework questions that can take a lot of time, but it's worth it. And great feedback!
Professor Owens is honestly the best teacher/professor I've ever had. He honestly cares for every student and wants them to succeed. He gives examples of almost everything he teaches and makes it more understandable. He's a good funny guy, who has tasty mind candy.
Best professor i've had so far. He is a really funny professor and knowledgable about the economy. He made his lectures interesting with his humor. Try not to be shy about asking questions in his class, it only made the class more enjoyable!
He's very down to Earth and respectful to all his students! I received an A from the class. You do have to work for your grade in this class. It is no easy, but it is an enjoyable learning process! I am taking another course from Mr. Owens and wish he taught other classes! Attendance is a big part of the grade but if you miss a couple classes ur g!
I took Dan's class online so I didn't get to see his lectures in person, however our weekly reading was always accompanied by Dan's own writing on the week's topic. These word documents synthesized all of the admittedly dry Economics concepts and jargon and made it easy to understand and learn. Outstanding class for anyone who needs Econ credits!
I was terrified to take an economics class, but Dan made it really fun and used a lot of current events to make the concepts relevant and easy to understand. This was my favorite course thus far!
Dan is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. He is passionate about what he teaches. I took him for both macro and micro, and did very well. Make sure you show up for class and write down whatever he writes on the board. He is a fair grader, and gives great feedback. He is very empowering.
He gives great information that actually is on the test. He is very good about answering questions and helping everyone to understand. Also always starts the day with some sweet music.
Dan is seriously awesome, would highly recommend. Teaches what you need to know, but has fun doing it. The whole class seems to enjoy his teaching. Clearly knows what hes talking about, and doesnt just lecture out of a textbook, providing real life and current examples.
Dan is Awesome! He provides great real life examples that help you understand material that may not be very interesting at times. He never surprises you. He tells you exactly what to Study and sets you up to succeed!
One of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are clear and precise and he relates what we are learning to real life. He also makes the entertaining. 10/10 would recommend.
I am taking my second Econ course with Dan, and I am so glad I took him again. He is the most understanding professor that I have had. If you just go by his office or send him an email letting him know you have something going on, then he will most likely help you out. He does the notes with you, so you dont feel like you are missing anything.
professor Dan is a great teacher he explains and takes his time with students for any questions or concerns. his class is always pleasant to be I will recommend him he cares for his students.
Hands down, one of the best professors I had at JCCC. For multiple reasons. His classes are always enjoyable to go to. His office is open if you need to stop by and chat. He helped me become a better student. I had him for both ECON classes. Highly Recommend.
Very well structured course. Lectures are easy to listen to and always on topic with some tidbits of general wisdom thrown in.
Oh my goodness if you have not met this man yet, please take some time out of your day to meet him. This professor truly cares about each and every one of his students. I cannot recommend him enough. I am not the best student, but I had perfect attendance in his class for a reason. Be sure to sign up quickly. It fills up very very fast.
Dan is Amazing! I would recommend him for both Macro and Micro. Even though some of the material is a little dry, Dan is great at making it interesting with his tasty graphs and sense of humor. There are no surprises with him. He tells you what to study for each test and is just great!
I have taken Dan for both ECON231/232. Both classes were pretty similar in how the information was presented and both were fairly easy. The exception being micro has a tad more graphs/math involved. Dan as a person though is something else. I've never had a professor go out of their way to just get to know me. 11/10 recommend.
Dan is an amazing teacher. I took both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics from him and he makes class fun and interesting. He has unique ways of explaining the material that make it easy to understand. He expects you to put in effort, but makes tests and points very accessible if you attend class and put in a little study time.
IMO the best lecturer I've had at JCCC. He made econ fun, exciting and applicable. He does expect you to PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY in class and engage in discussions. Tests and homework are based off the lectures and use the book as a basis for the ideas discussed. He is a slow grader and will sometimes incorrectly enter your scores, keep records.
Dan is my favorite professor ever! Great guy and passionate economist, truly knows and loves what he does. He loves chipotle.
I took him for micro and the first unit is basically a review of macro. I love dan especially when he draws the graphs and makes that weird cool noise. The last part of micro gets tough when you have to graph atc curves. Other than that, he's a good teacher and doesn't assign homework on the holidays.
Dan Owens is my favorite college professor. He meets with all of his students throughout the semester, tells you exactly what will be on the test, and makes economics a lot of fun. I think he is more respectful to students than any other teacher I've had.
Professor Owens is a spectacular professor. He loves to teach and his class is one I look forward to during the day. I loved his class and how he taught it.
What a great guy! His lectures are so interesting and never a drag to get through. Would take his class again!
If you show up for class, do you homework on Canvas, and study for the tests, you'll do fine. Dan uses Tasty Graphs to make his lectures easier to understand. Attendance is absolutely important for his class as he covers a ton of material in each class. He also provides a couple different ways to get easy extra credit. Overall, GREAT class!
Dan is AMAZING. He is not only a great professor, but he loves his job and actually cares about his students. He's very accessible and always willing to help if you don't understand something. Make sure to put your phone away during class or he'll call you out (but is never rude about it). Heck, you won't need it, class is very entertaining.
Dan Owens is a wonderful professor. I really, really like him. He doesn't always like it when you go to his office hours. But, I recommend you go nonetheless because he has some great answers for your questions. He is an interesting professor in that he has an interesting background. I am sure he will tell you about this himself in your class.
Few professors pay the amount of attention Owens does to establishing a positive learning environment, one that garners the classroom's full attention with interesting lectures and the unique charisma students love to see. He also makes it a point to meet with each of students to ask what their major is, why, etc.; he truly cares about his classes.
Awesome professor. Truly gives you an honest look at economics without a political view. Easy class where you learn a lot!
Mr. Owens is an excellent professor at the top of his field. Graduated with a 4.0 from K-State majoring in economics. Dude knows his stuff and applies it well. You can expect to learn many life tips as well, and his classrooms are always full. Funny guy with a God-given gift for teaching. Everybody needs to take this dude's classes.
Dan Owens is an outstanding professor. I took him for both Macro and Micro Economics and loved the classes so much! I wish there were more econ classes at JCCC.
Professor Owens, although a great teacher, is a very cool and insightful person who showed me through this class on how to look at the bigger picture of what we were learning. Truly inspiring to me, and he has great music taste.
I took this class online for Microeconomics, and it was great. There is homework that has to be turned in every week on Sunday, and if you put in a couple hours a day, you're likely to have it done ahead of time. There are 2 opportunities for extra credit, 10 points each, and they are super easy. Do the homework each week, and you'll be golden.
Professor Owens' love of economics and teaching made Macroeconomics so fun. I never dreamed I could do well or enjoy an economics class, but this was my favorite class of the semester! This online class was so organized, and there are multiple ways offered to learn the material: podcasts, zoom lectures, and notes along with the textbook.
Daniel was a great online professor. I took his ECON class in the summer and had multiple assignments due every week. If you're willing to do some reading and actually try his lectures are short and sweet. I figured out early on that if I gave some effort I would do fine in the class. Would take for accelerated econ classes if needed.
Professor Owens is one of the best professors I've taken at this school. There are no tests, but the weekly assignments are very thorough and touch base on everything you need to know. I truly learned from this course and did not feel stressed about anything the entire semester. 10/10, definitely take his classes!
I had Professor Owens for both Micro&Macro online: they were the best classes I have taken. Professor Owens is an amazing teacher, he gives assignments due each Sunday that are clear and ties in personal life examples. He takes the time to personally respond to ever answer you give. He is professional and relatable and treats students with respect.
Hands-down the best online macroecon class. One assignment due every week; takes 3-7 hours. No exams! Grades firmly, but is easy if you actually read material to learn it. Optional Zoom lectures that you can attend or watch later. Responds quickly, gives great feedback, cares about you; firm but fair, and very nice. This is the class that you want!
15 assignments over the course of 15 weeks for the online course. Assignments are easy to complete, don't even need to buy the textbook because his notes for each assignment are everything that is needed. Brags about his double major in German and Economics a lot. Overall good though.
Dan Owens is a top notch professor. His lectures are interesting, informative and valuable. His assignments are unique but easy to grasp. I feel like I learned a lot from his class and would recommend him to anyone. 15 assignments and recorded his zoom meetings so you can go back at watch. One of the rare teachers who really cares about teaching.
Professor Owens teaches in ways to suit students of different abilities and schedules. His zoom meetings were optional, and lectures were recorded for those who couldn't attend if desired. No other professor has gone more above and beyond as Owens for his students. His notes and feedback are incredible. No complaints from me, and he's scary smart!
Easy A. I took the online course and had 1 assignment due each week with a recording of the week's lecture.
I have completed his macro- and now his microeconomics courses online. No exams! Just a weekly assignment with short essays. Be sure to read his notes, skim the textbook, and be thorough in your answers. He is a tough grader, but is also fair. This is an easy A if you put in the effort and ask for help. Choose this professor, trust me!!
Awesome professor!
Took his class last summer. Very well built course, but about 4 hrs of hw each week. Very Funny and insightful. Makes econ easier to understand. Custom made homework and reading that is easy to follow and complete. No tests, only weekly assignments. Will be taking Macro with him again this summer. Deserving of all the praise he gets.
Dan is the funniest teacher I've ever had (danced on a table in class). Cares about his work and always seeks to improve his teaching. Took his honors course and it is really what you make of it. Always tries to apply the work to the real world. Covers broad topics with easy homework, so if you are truly interested in econ focus on the book.
Amazing Professor when it comes to learning economics. Professor Owens is great at teaching economics and helping students use critical thinking to apply their experience with the lessons. Be prepared to do a lot of critical thinking on assignments. His lessons/lectures are all mind candy.
Such an amazing professor! You can really tell that he genuinely cares about his students. Owens always gave me extensive and helpful feedback on all of my homework. I wouldn't say that this course is an easy A, you will get out what you put in. I recommend actually trying bc you'll learn so much:) HIGHLY RECOMMEND PROFESSOR OWENS!!!!!!!!
Dan is an amazing professor. So full of energy and willingness to teach. It is a joy to have class with him since he is so passionate about whatever topic he teaches. His homework assignments were pretty heavy but justifiable due to the course material. Overall, it was a great experience.
Awesome class format, just do your weekly assignment(hour and a half) and you'll be good.
Professor Owens's class was extremely engaging and a joy to participate in. His lectures are very interesting, and he does a great job at making students laugh from time to time. Taking notes in class is vital, on a laptop or notebook, but notebooks are better for drawing graphs when needed. Homework each weeks never takes more than 1.5-2 hours.
Prof. Owens is very educated and primarily focuses on teaching the material while updating his material based on current events. Put in a little effort and Owens will have your back when you struggle/get behind on assignments. Owens will also recommend a counselor who'll fit your major and is someone who wants to see you succeed as a student. 10/10
Owens teaches an interesting class in an interesting way. He doesnt focus so much on the math part of economics, but focuses on the critical thinking and core principles of economics, which I love! Homework is pretty simple, takes two-three hours per week. Lectures are fun and never dull! Cool guy, I love how passionate he is about class & subject.
Professor Owens is the best Professor I have taken at JCCC so far. Absolutely amazing man super caring and funny. His class is an easy A as long as you do the work, btw he does take-home tests. He also gives the utmost respect for all political and religious beliefs which is rare at JCCC. If you want to look forward to class take this guy!
Professor Owens creates a rich, in-depth economics experience with contemporary references. His notes and lectures are perfect for completing his assignments. Assignments do not simply look for regurgitated information but responses that show understanding. He encourages students to employ critical thinking and provides excellent feedback.
Professor Owens did a great job explaining the concepts and drew economics back to real life situations and economic policies. I didn't expect to enjoy this class, but the professor was very engaging. I ended up enjoying economics and I now regularly listen to economics podcasts for fun! He engages with students with in class and had no exams.
Amazing lectures. He makes it easy to understand the material from textbook. Lectures are never boring. Homework/tests are easy if you read that weeks assigned chapter. Usually doesn't take more than a couple hours a week. Seems to genuinely care about students.
I would recommend this class. He was such a great professor. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. You receive extra points for attending class and taking notes in class. He also provides a lot of extra credit that are very easy to do.
coursework only consists of take home test which include 10+ short answer questions that pertain to his notes He does a zoom meeting every monday going over the chapter for the week, which could help you when answering his take home test. id say textbook is only required if you need additional understanding but again you could look up great teacher
Dan teaches effectively and cares about his students learning the course material. Course load is very manageable. He takes topics that would typically be a little boring, and he makes them interesting and exciting. One of my favorite professors I've had.
Professor Owens makes economics engaging with his insightful lectures and custom-built assignments. Homework is manageable, and unstuck ai proved helpful for preparing. Highly recommend this class for its practical approach and the professor's genuine care for students.
For online macro econ, the curriculum was simple, one wkly "exam" which is basically just reading his notes, some of the textbook, listening to a portion of a podcast, and sometimes watching short YouTube videos, and then answering about 10-14, 2-4 sentence questions. Straight forward, I learned a lot + good feedback while not overworked, TAKE HIM!
material is presented in a way that is easily understandable and interesting. Owens has consistent deadlines and clear expectations. Work is assigned Monday at 12:00am, due Sunday at 11:59pm, there are no surprise assignments. Owens is the perfect choice for anyone trying to fit classes into an already full schedule.
Dan has such a passion for teaching that it is truly a joy to watch him learn. Have had him in two classes and so far and wish all professors had as much dedication to their craft as he does. The methodology of no test in exchange of weekly assignments is manageable if you simply attend the weekly lectures and keep up with each reading.
First econ class ive taken that hasnt bored me to death, he engages with the class well enough to make up for the no electronics rule. Homework every week takes about 3 hours but is very manageable when spread out.
I took this economics class and found it interesting. I liked how most lessons reflected what we were going through in real time; it made them more relatable. I also liked how the assignments were set up. I was nervous, but it allowed us to add our perspectives while learning from multiple views.
Be ready to take notes in this class but it is worth it. I recommend this class and professor even if you don't need this class. He makes this class fun and informative.
He is awesome i would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to take any economics class. I don't glaze much but he is goated!!!
Be prepared to take notes, we take about 3 pages worth of notes (if you don't use the back of the notebook paper) per lecture. There are also weekly 80-pt tests and 20-pt quizzes; they both take some time and aren't very difficult. Awesome teacher, cares about his students, funny, and knows/loves what he teaches, uses real-world examples too
This was my second semester taking one of his courses, he was one of my favorite professors ive taken at JCCC. The workload is one test per week that is due on Sunday, it's super easy to spread out through the week and his lectures are so interesting that I never zone out. Great class 10/10 recommend!
Yeah what everyone else is saying + pretty awesome dude
Great dude. Lots of reading, but what you get out of it is worth. Great feedback on each assignment to each individual student.
This is my first class with Owens and I plan to take another with him next semester. Lectures are funny and engaging, he basically tells you what to write in your notebook. Homework is very simple, one assignment and one quiz due Sunday at midnight. Can sometimes be a tough grader but other than that it would be hard not to succeed in this class.
He is a very nice guy, but he's out of touch sometimes. He is knowledgeable in the area of economics, but voices some unnuanced takes.
