A very good teacher who is always willing to help his students, he provides interesting lectures and helpful hands on lessons with audio equipment.. Its rare to find a teacher who cares so much for his students
Great teacher. Friendly and funny.
Professor Pavein is the best. He is a good teacher who is always willing to help his students. He provids interesting lectures, on the topics we are studying. Always adding helpful hints about Audio. He has much concern for his students. :-)
Extremely energetic and fun. One of the friendliest teachers and my personal favorite. Dan does an excellent job of clearly explaining the somewhat dense technical material. His conspiracies about the entertainment business were a definite highlight!
Dan is probably the most intelligent audio professor I have ever met. He is also very helpful and nice.
I love Dan. He is my favorite teacher of all time!
The Dan show is great. If you want a professor that you will learn from and actually keeps in contact with you with personalized reports on all your projects. Dan is your man. He is the only professor at chapman worth the money!
best - teacher - ever! harry cheney: worst - teacher - ever! very informative, so much fun, great analogies, lots of hands on, very helpful, easy to reach, lots of feedback, help available! i wish i could have him for every class! THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very funny teacher! I was apprehensive to take audio techniques but he was so funny and engaging that he made the course. The class would be boring and dry without him.
the man sends an e-mail to every student, for every project detailing exactly what he dis/liked. the man is sooo passionate about audio. totally worth taking.
the man is genuinely interested in his students and loves his profession. very personable, funny, entertaining, informative. he actually takes time to email each student extensively about their work. now that is a teacher! helpful, fun guy. truly great
Learned tons, very clear, only teaches what's important. Helps you when you need it. For audio, you can't go wrong with Pavlin. I'd reccommend him anyday.
This is the most fun you will have in a class. Pavelin brings so much energy to class along with his helpfulness and creativity. A class to look forward to going to!
Good suggestions! Dan finds good stuff in bad projects, and places to improve in good projects. Funny and helpful.
He is seriously amazing: he e-mails each student at least a few paragraphs critiquing projects-very helpful; he also is SO enthusiastic about class, very enjoyable to listen to and an all around great guy-very honest and always willing to help. YAY PAVELIN
Prof Pavlin is the best. Very open to your ideas for films and the class will discuss ways to make them better. Positive encouragement. Always returns e-mail fast, and helps you when you need it. Highly recommended for Visual Storytelling!
Take him for V.S. He's a great guy, very helpful outside of class. He does seem to grade harder on film students than tv/broadcasting, so don't expect an 'A.' But, you'll learn a lot, and have a blast.
I often asked him for story advice outside of class, and he was always available to help. Very friendly and enthusiastic teacher. Take Dan the Man!
Great prof! He explains things clearly and covers a lot of different topics related to audio and film. Very enthusiastc, sends e-mails with comments about every project. Good class, great teacher.
A Great Teacher. Extremely Interesting. Loves what he is teaching – gets very excited. He explains everything clearly. If try - will get good grade! Covers many topics–loves audio. Is very enthusiastic. Sends grades out in e-mail. Is always available to help. Good Class. A MUST Take! :-)
I learned a lot from him. He challenges his students to make good projects by giving them extensive feedback. He also sends out grades through email and writes a review about the project. He is always available outside of class for advice about the projects which is extremely helpful. Take him!
The class is a lot of work, but Dan is very nice. Make sure to let him know if you are struggling. He is very helpful and sends out nice emails.
This guy is awesome! I have never met someone so passionate about audio design - the exercises he gives us help us to understand how to create good audio, and how to integrate it effectively into the film - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

let me just say that I <3 DAN PAVELIN. he's a GREAT teacher...highly reccomended for ANY OF HIS CLASSES. VERY helpful, VERY fair. i have nothing but good to say about Dan. the film major kids in my class freak me out though, beware of them. =) thanks dan for everything...you ROCK!

One of the best teachers in the film school. Plus a good sense of humor.
Rules! knows everything about Audio!
Dan Pavelin nothing short of an amazing film professor. He is so prepared for class, so knowledgable, and genunily cares about his students and their progression in the demanding class. Love his lecture on composition and framing. Awesome! His commentary on film clips and analysis is equally interesting and helpful. GREAT INDIVIDUAL EMALS, TOO!!
I took his class based on students comments, and it was even better than what they said. His emails are so detailed, he really spends time with you, and he tries to help in any way possible. He is a great teacher and anyone in film production would be lucky to have him.
This was my second class with Dan and he is still one of the best teachers I had at Chapman. He knows his stuff and teaches it well. He also sends individual emails to every student with a grade and feedback which is extremely helpful. The guy also likes the Beatles and that is why he is the man.
Dan is one of the best teachers at Chapman, he knows alot about sound, and his stories and personality make the class very fun. There aren't that many projects, and he lets you know EXACTLY what will appear on the tests. Regardless of your interest in Audio, this will be a great class.
Excitable, fun, and a great sense of humor. Gets easily irritated by faulty equipment, but never takes it out on the class. Terrific fun!
Energetic and fun! Always willing to help outside class. I don't know much about music, but Dan grades a lot on effort. He loves music and you can tell, and he'll make you love it more. Great class.
Dan is a very fun person and very entertaining. The class isn't the best, but he works hard to make it as painless as possible. He is here for the students. Take him because if you are in the Dodge College, you have to take this class, so do yourself a favor and take Dan.
I agree with the other poster. Dan made this class fun even though I was only taking it because I had to for my PR major. He's definitely the one to take this class with becuase he's very understanding that some of us don't want to make movies -- I tried hard and he gave me a good grade! ;-) Take it with Dan! !
His class is like watching a looney tunes episode. This guy is on speed all the time. Very good and passionate teacher!
passionate teacher... so much energy its amazing
He is awesome
Great teacher! He keeps it simple so everyone can understand the subject. He is available for extra help on all projects. Projects are a little time consuming, but fun and easy. Funny guy and lectures are never boring. Take his classes- they are very useful. Attendance not mandatory, but since there's no book, it helps to be there.
Class is always a joy with Dan, he's probably the best professor at Chapman. Take every class you can with him.
Dan is awesome. He teaches mostly in lecture, so the stuff is easier to comprehend. The projects aren't too hard and he isn't a tough grader. Pavelin really is one of the nicest and best professors in the film department.
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!
So nice and actually cares about his student. Will meet with you any time to talk about problems or interest in audio. Overall great guy and teacher.
I have never felt the urge to rate a professor before, but Pavelin's class was so awesome that I just want everyone who comes here to know that everything you've heard is true -- Pavelin is the best professor you will have at Chapman. Hard not to like the guy; his class is a ton of fun and he's pretty easy, but really passionate about audio.
One of my favorite professors of all time. I will be taking all of his classes. Although he freaks out at equipment, he is extremely mellow and kind when you come to him for help.
My friends and I are convinced that Dan Pavelin is a Muppet. His lectures are fun to listen to and the material is not at all complicated. I tend to avoid 8:30 AM classes, but this class is the exception. Although he doesn't focus a lot on how to record/mix on a set, he will make sure you know Pro Tools like the back of your hand.
Dan Pavelin is a great teacher. I have taken all of his classes and i can say he really cares about the material he is teaching.
One of the greatest teachers at Chapman. He's passionate and well-informed about every class he teaches and is very honest, but encouraging and supportive. He's a professor I'll never forget. If you get the oppurtunity to take his class DO IT.
The best teacher at Dodge.
Yes, the best teacher ever. Super clear, super fair grader, and SO enthusiastic about his subject and his students. You learn and you're happy to come to class. I disliked audio before this but now I'm going to take more just to have more classes with him. I feel like he would come and bail me out of jail if I called him. Sweetest man ever.
Dan is a great teacher and very nice! He does a big review before every test, he makes every topic interesting, and he is really friendly and helpful.
He makes sound interesting for everyone! A great teacher with the most energy I have ever seen in a teacher.
Actually the best teacher at dodge. So understanding and willing to help always. Will go out of his way for his students to see them succeed.
Dan Pavelin is the most helpful teacher at Dodge. He is entertaining and helpful. Sitting in the front row, however, can be dangerous to your physical health because he has so much energy. His lectures are interesting and exams are clear. He's a great resource for anything really.
Dan is a very entertaining professor who knows his subjects well and makes them fun to learn. I've taken all his classes, and he is always nice and encouraging!
This man LOVES teaching and he is extremely good at it. He projects an energy into the class that makes any subject interesting. I always look forward to his class and hope to have him in other classes in the future. I would argue that he is one of the best teachers at Dodge. If you are taking any audio classes, take them with PAVELIN. Trust me.
Very energetic, makes the subject matter interesting, focuses much more on sound mixing than production sound, great lecturer, and of course very hilarious. Also very helpful if you go to him when you're having problems with Pro Tools (so don't do the projects at the last minute). Very easy midterm and final. Probably a lot of names.
Dan is an amazing professor. He is hilarious and presents the material in a fun and interesting way. It never feels like you're being lectured while still learning a lot.
Great, energetic teacher. Not afraid to tell it like it is and teaches a lot of practical knowledge. Lets you actually go and use the equipment in Dodge unlike a lot of 100 level classes. A lot of fun and actually helpful.
Dan is a great, passionate teacher. He really cares about what he teaches and his enthusiasm is contagious. My only note would be that the class feels disorganized, mainly because he does not use a textbook and instead randomly teaches anything audio related. Tests are weird because things we haven't covered end up on them.
I loved taking Audio Techniques with Dan! Props to him for his amazing energy and passion for teaching. Dan engages his class in his lectures and cares about his students. Great at answering emails. The projects are a lot of fun as well! The best course I have taken at Chapman so far.
Dan is great! He is by far the most helpful professor I've ever come across. He completely understands students and what they are required for each class and if you ever have a problem at Dodge he's your man! His class is great, Dan is always very energetic and is always very clear about what is required for class. GO DAN-PAVELIN-MAN!
Amazing professor. Has his lecture down like a rehearsed performance every class. No textbook because he is one himself. Fast, efficient and a no-nonsense professor. The lessons he teaches are very practical to real life. Don't get on his nerves.
Dan is the absolute best professor I've had in college. He's prepared, experienced, and keeps his students in the loop with weekly emails. He's funny and succeeds in making what could easily be a bland subject captivating. I overslept the midterm and he let me retake it. What a guy!
What a fun class. I had never taken an audio class in my life and Dan made me interested in doing audio! I would recommend taking a class with Dan if you ever get the chance too.
Best professor I've had at Chapman! Loves sound, loves teaching his students, always around to help! Take Audio Techniques, and take it with Dan! You'll love it!
I've taken Dan's ProTools Certification class as well his his Music Comp. for Filmmakers class, and each time I learned a considerable amount, all while not being stressed. His classes are easy if you show up and pay attention. You won't be disappointed!
Dan knows his stuff, but this class won't be that fun if audio isn't your thing. Projects aren't too hard bc he gives worksheets w/ details on how to complete them, which is helpful bc he talks way too fast during lectures. You have to go on set once as part of the class so it's best to be in class for the hands-on days so you know the equipment.
Dan is a sweetheart who really cares about his students! He knows a TON about sound, but sometimes his lectures can appear a bit boring due to him just talking at you, so it's important to ask questions bc he always gives insightful answers. We do lots of fun activities throughout the semester & I learned A LOT. Just make sure to show up to class.
Just show up to class - there's not a lot of class sessions anyways the way Dan built the course. He's hilarious, extremely insightful, and a genius at Pro-Tools. Grading is based on a midterm, final, and three projects and he is always available for help whenever you need it. Going to class was always interesting with Dan!
He knows a lot about sound that even if you are not so interested in it he'll make you passionate about it. Most weeks you only have to come one day a week because they are hands on classes. He teaches with his heart and it shows.
He definitely knows what he's talking about. I almost took this class with Alex Graham but dropped it because it seemed boring. Dan makes it fun. The videos he shows are helpful and he teaches Protools well. There are a lot of weeks where you only have to come one day because he splits the class. The feedback on projects isn't that great
He is an enthusiastic and fun professor but he talks incredibly fast, so be prepared to listen. Also take notes, as the tests are based on what he says during class, so be thorough. His class is helpful in understanding audio and all those things. Definitely an intro class, but a pretty easy A!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He just cares about what he does and how he can best teach you what you gotta know. He da best.
Dan is amazing! His music comp class has been so informative. I came in knowing nothing about music and that's okay! He really goes step by step and helps you learn how to make music and apply it to film!
Dan is really passionate about music so this class was enjoyable. I knew nothing about music comp and can't say I improved from the class, but I enjoyed doing the assignments to the best of my ability. He has everyone play their projects in front of the class for feedback, but I learned that if you just don't raise your hand you shouldn't have to.
Dan's lectures were amazing! Fair warning, he does talk a bit fast, but the content covered was very helpful in understanding audio. He doesn't have a crazy amount of projects, and it was helpful to not have to attend on certain days with his "groups" style of teaching. I really enjoyed his class overall!
Dan is great! One of the most engaging lecturers you can have. Makes things simple. The midterm and final take 10-15 minutes, and it is easy to get an A. He also used to be the lead advisor at Dodge, so you can ask him questions regarding classes, and he'll have an answer for pretty much anything. Just don't take pictures in class. Big no no.
Pavelin hits you right away with his energy and passion for sound design! Sometimes lectures feel like lectures, but all of his assignments gave us creative freedom to experiment and toy with pro tools!
Dan is the best. He is very funny and a wealth of knowledge. I would be ready for some classes to be canceled but class is great.
He is a nice guy but not the best professor for everyone. He knows what he's talking about but would talk way too fast to comprehend and got very impatient with the technology. He does not use Canvas so you don't really know your grades unless you check Outlook emails.
Please take his class!! Learned so much, and his lectures were the best. He doesn't have many graded projects, though, so it's important to do well on all of them.
