I absolutely loved this class! The professor is very knowledgeable, and he actually cares about his students. I looked forward to going to class. As long as you come to class and participate in the discussions you'll have a wonderful experience.

I have taken two SOC classes from Dan (1010 and 2600), both classes were fun, informative and engaging.Dan is a relativly easy teacher who only wants his students to learn.

The class was easy and probably would have been so regardless of the instructor. That being said, Dan is GREAT and is one of my favorite professors ever. Very clear and very willing to help.

This class was very insightful and thought provoking. The students shared their own ideas and opinions which made for stimulating sociological discussions and thought provoking insights. Dan Poole's teaching methods and styles encouraged us to find our own answers to the worlds questions by initiating our own observations,research, and experiments.

This professor is awesome, I wish more professors though out side of the box with their teaching style like him. He makes sociology fun and easy to learn.

Awesome professor! He does an amazing job at keeping in contact with his students. He grades fast. His discussions aren't hard, but it's important you really try to understand the discussion questions and take the most out of them. You have a test and a discussion due each week. There are 2 papers. Extra credit. I definitely recommend this class!!

This was a great class!! The discussions were informative and thoughtful.The quizzes were challenging. Professor Poole is a fantastic teacher! He is courteous and responds quickly to all emails. He defines the epitome of what it is to teach Sociology. More teachers should take note!!

I took his night class because I work full time and he is so nice and was willing to work with me if I had problems. very understanding if you need time on papers. he does pop quizzes at random. just go to class and try you will get a good grade

Dan is the MAN

He was very helpful. I enjoyed this class. Everything is always due on Friday. He has a discussion post due, and one chapter test each week. He also has a couple easy writing papers. His tests are a little more difficult but offer's extra credit to replace one test at full points. He was fun, I would take his class again.

Great professor! Class was easy and understandable. As long as you do the work and study for the tests it is very easy. Tests aren't time which helps a lot.

I have taken every class he teaches at SLCC. He is so kind and an amazing teacher! I learned so much! He is so helpful and always ready to help you with anything! Loved all the group discussions we had and his tests are take home. Take all of his classes!!

Awesome teacher and dude! He's really good at what he does and knows how to get information to the class as needed. Be ready to do weekly discussions and take a quiz every week. They're really easy as long as you read the chapters for that week!

I really enjoyed this class and anytime I had a question or asked for feedback he responded. I have a very busy schedule and so its tough for me to read a lot and even remember what I am able to read but I still passed this class with an A.

I can honestly say Professor Poole has been one of the most helpful professors I have had during my college career. He is very very helpful and genuinely cares about the student's learning. I recommend Professor Poole 100%.

I highly recommend ANY class taught by Professor Poole. He is clear on his expectations, and makes an online class engaging through weekly discussions. You will have one test per week along with an interactive discussion, and 2 "projects" during the semester. He ALWAYS give feedback on tests, and summarizes the discussions.

Dan is very clear about his expectations for you and leaves a clear outline of what to expect in the class. I found most of the assignments really easy, as long as you read & understand the material.

Amazing guy, really cool and chill. Helps a lot, answers any questions you have, take home test that are tricky, power points on canvas gives extra credit.

Dan is a stud. I have taken him for two of my Sociology requirements. Most of the class is based upon service learning, so expect to go into the world and help. He is really fun and easy going. He is the type of guy you would like to go see a concert with (like Skinny Puppy). If you're required to take a Sociology class I recommend Dan.

If you are looking for an easy A class, this would be the class to take! The homework is so easy! You read the chapter, have a prompt and response, and a quiz. You have a week to complete it and they are due on fridays. And there are 2 papers that are due which are also very easy. Dan provides the textbook for you. He is willing to help always.

I am so glad I took this class with Dan. I only signed up for this class because it was one of my prerequisites. Surprisingly, I actually really enjoyed it. He made the class fun and interesting. He is a great professor, I would definitely recommend taking this class with him.

Great class. Not only is it easy but I learned a lot as well. Grading criteria is clear and assignments are explained and laid out well. Participate in the discussions, take the quizzes, do the couple of papers and its an easy A. The discussions really got me involved and helped me to learn a lot. Dan cares about his students. Dan is the best! People that are saying this course is easy, its only because he makes it so easy to understand. Dan was seriously an amazing professor. He cares greatly for his student's growth throughout the course, and is willing to help you along the way. He always answers questions and emails very quickly, and makes the course a lot of fun! It was a super interesting class, and I know it's because of the instructors material and presentation!

I took this class for my last nursing pre req. I needed a teacher that was super clear and effective and Dan was that. I always knew what to expect and he was just an all around great teacher. Best online teacher I've had. There is a quiz and a discussion every week and then 2 papers. That's it! No tests!! Great class.

He is a down to earth real guy and presents the subject matter in a way that students can relate to. We watched videos and had interesting topics of discussion, group projects, and essays. The tests were more like planned quizzes and as long as you attend class you'll do well. Had interestin guest speakers too. Cares about our life long learning.

I took his summer 4 week online course, which was fine, but I think that I would have liked to take it in class much more. He is a very interesting person & gives great feed back in every lesson. Easy going and straight forward. I would recommend him and his class.

Dan is a great professor. As long as you show up, do your online homework (we used a free, online textbook) and complete the 1-2 papers he assigns, you'll get an A. Loved his lectures!

Dan is a great professor. I took this class online. All we had was one discussion and one quiz due each week with only two papers the whole semester. He really cares about you and he lets you talk to him about whatever you need to for a question on each quiz. I highly recommend taking the class from him.

I took Dan's class during the summer, probably my favorite class out of all four classes I was taking. The class was pretty relaxed, there were a few papers, they were not bad at all. I few quizzes, but would take a class from him again, if I needed to.

Great on line class. I really enjoyed this class and appreciated how much Dan was there to help if you needed it. I didn't need help outside of working on line, but I knew that he would be there to help in person if I needed it. Thanks for a great class!! This is how a 1010 class should be. Great intro to the subject and not too much homework.

I loved this class! Sociology is amazing and it can literally be applied to everything in life! Dan was such an inspirational teacher and he wants you to care and learn! Great sense of humor, calm temperament, excellent class lectures. Sociology is dope! I'm considering it a major because of this class. You're the man, Dan.

There are chapter assignments online (textbook is free) and you have to answer questions each chapter. A few papers to write, a presentation and the rest is getting your 20 hours of service learning. SS classes are a bit of a joke IMO but Dan is quick to grade assignments and gives good feedback. If you want an easy A, take this class. It requires maybe 30 min of work each week and the assignments can be done with minimal effort.

I would take a class from Dan again in a heartbeat. He was so understanding and was clear on what he wanted for his assignments. The work is not overbearing yet you learn a lot from what he teaches. I took it online and I loved it!

Structured class, very clear and easy to follow. I was able to learn the material and complete all assignments on time. With the exception of midterms and finals, a quiz and a discussion were due every Sunday. The instructor was very involved and always responded to emails promptly. Grades posted weekly. Extra credit opportunities.

Great class. Tests are take home and open book and open note. Actually makes you enjoy SOC 1010. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Plan on doing at least 15 hrs of community service but that is the hardest part. If you do the papers and show up, you get an A. He is a little disorganized, so go with the flow but nothing given with little notice.

This has been one of the best courses i have taken online. The professor was quick to respond, grade and communicate important information. Every week the modules helped me to make sure I am on track. There is a short reading assignment, short quiz and a discussion every week. I enjoyed this class and would take it again. Not huge amount of work.

COVID19 Review: If you need this class or gen ed credit, take this class. You watch a movie once a week, take an open book quiz, and have a discussion on the parts of sociology reflected in the movie. Flexible with service learning due to COVID. If you class goes in person, the lectures are AMAZING. Easy A and great teacher.

Dan is such a fun professor. He'an alternative/punk rock kind of guy and isn't afraid to show it (in fact that's part of his first lessons) He is also really smart though and encourages you to engage in the sociology around you. He does a great job of making all students feel like their comments are important.

This was my fourth class with Dan. Thats just how great he is. He cares about his students what he is teaching. His lectures are always stimulating. This was an independent studies class. I have also taken soc. problems, soc101, & doing soc. All were amazing. Dans classes are harder to fail then it is to pass. Cant speak highly enough about him.

Online class but he was very accessible and willing to help in any way. The course itself was a little wonky, had to go to a different website to do homework, but all you had to do was complete the homework for full credit. Easy easy easy A if you put in the time.

He is very knowledgeable, intelligent, approachable, respectful, and inclusive. If you're interested in getting into soc or doing research projects/papers he's a great resource. Lectures/discussions were very interesting. He is very fun but I also learned a lot. 10/10 for making me feel accepted as a queer/disabled student. 10/10 in general.

Take Dan Poole!!! He has given me the most stress free experience out of all classes I have taken. It was super easy online and I feel like I was able to learn a lot. You know exactly what is asked of you and homework is graded upon completion a online taken at home tests are the same terms as on the homework questions. Easy end of semester project

Dan Poole is an engaging professor who helps you learn the material. If you pay attention in class, and do the reading you should pass the tests. He is a kind person, and he leads good discussions. You can ask questions. I learned so much about sociology in this class. If you need the credit or just a manageable elective, you should take this class

If you need a credit for social science, I definitely would recommend taking Professor Pooles class!!! By far the easiest A and he has clear expectations for you and the class. He is super cool with feedback and grading. Super understanding and knowledgeable. 100000/10

Dr. Poole is arguably the best Sociology Prof at SLCC. I took the four-week online class, and honestly, it was intense; however, once I found my zone, the assignments went by one by one. I learned a lot by taking PSY 1010 first. This class just added way more insight to my understanding of human behavior. He deserves a raise and promotion! 10/10

This was a community engaged learning course- not a lot of typical hw, instead did some volunteer hours. Dan was really engaging, chill, funny, smart. Assignments were creative and straightforward. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Cares about students and is flexible with different learning styles. Class was very impactful, he's a cool teacher!

1 Chapter reading a week with a quiz and a discussion. Discussions were easy and often interesting. The midterm was easy and fun, and the Final was light work. The signature assignment was really fun and made me get out of my shell and start volunteering. Feedback was just to keep up the good work, which I expected because the course is easy.
