Lots of hard quizzes and tests. Assinments not difficult though. His pace of teaching is very fast, so if you miss a day, you'll fail a lecture quiz. Expects a lot. Not an "easy A" class. Nice to talk to outside of class. You will study a lot in this class.
Very intense, hard quizzes, even harder exams. Takes the whole class period for VERY boring lectures. Do not turn in your work vi email, sometimes he doesn't get it and then will mark you paper lower than it originally should have been. I hated this class, but he's a nice guy as an advisor.
Lots of quizzes and tests. He doesn't like it when people miss class - hard to get him to let you make up assignments. Very hard cummulative final.
Lots of lecture, but tests laughably easy. I never studied for a quiz. Teaches like a middle school teacher. For an easy A, take Stalder. The final was mostly questions taken word for word from the quizzes. Seriously an easy class!
Learning and Conditioning Class. If you like Star Trek you will like Prof Stalder, he's a huge Trekkie and you even get to watch some episodes for examples of what you are learning in class. He's a very helpful person.
You will study a lot! But you'll learn a lot as well. Tests challenging. Never lets out early - usually keeps you a minute after. Nice guy.
I hated him as a teacher, his class was so dry, that i couldnt stay awake. He relates everything to star trek and i have never seen an episode in my life so that was difficult. I was goin to miss a day of a test and i had a valid excuse, and he wouldnt let me take the test at a different time than the class, i would not recomend this professor
Dr. Stalder is a great professor... he can be dry at times... over-all a great teacher.
Real nice/helpful guy, will go out of his way to help out a student. Lectures are real dry and you have to pay REAL close attention to pick out what's important, it's not obvious. Exams don't really match up with lecture notes all that well. Okay prof all in all
This class is very interesting. You learn about the flaws of society. I find myself relating life to information I learned in this class. Attend class. It's not required, but he explains the notes a lot better than his overhead says. Tests aren't too hard. Very interesting class.
I absolutely loved Professor Stalder! He made class interesting and fun. His lecture notes are very organized and his tests weren't too difficult. He also shows a lot of video clips which are helpful. Many of his exam questions come from the textbook however, so you should do the readings. Overall a great class, and a great professor!
I really liked Stalder! He makes up crazy, fun ways to remember the material. He assigned a few problems out of the book once a week that were helpful to most people (I got by just by listening in class). I would highly recommend him if you want to learn something and take a fun class!
Very engaging, knowledgable, and insightful professor. Class content is a bit difficult, but he does a very good job of providing examples and answering questions. Class attendance is encouraged, as he rarely uses D2L, and most of the tests are based off of lecture notes.
Also had him for PSYCH 215 - easily my favorite professor! He's extremely knowledgeable, is always willing to meet with you, and has fun ways to help you remember the material. I would take any class that he is teaching!
He is really hard to listen to. He does not present his ideas/concepts in a way that is easy to understand. His overhead notes are organized in a way that is hard to comprehend. He's nice but very dry. It is sometimes hard to take notes because you don't know what is important and what's not.
He is the best professor I have ever had. If you study what he puts on the board, their is no reason you shouldn't succeed.
Some of his test questions are ridiculous but on the whole his tests aren't too bad. Lecture is miserable. He repeats himself over and over again and conducts the class like it's an intro instead of a 300-level class. It can be incredibly frustrating listening to his lecture. The class is easy but he's irritating.
He takes everything really slow which sounds like a good idea when dealing stats but it actually gets annoying and repetitive. If you struggle in math-based topics, take him but if you have a semi-decent math understand, take someone else or else his pace will drive you nuts.
Nice teacher, but his lectures are very boring. Staying awake can sometimes be difficult. Exams can be challenging, and he makes you study a ridiculous amount of material for them. Probably won't take any more classes with him for that reason.
Dr. Stalder is HILARIOUS. He has a great, dry sense of humor, and it was awesome. He is overall a really nice guy, and he is very interested in what he teaches. So much so that it can't help but make students make the best of the lecture hour. I definitely recommend Dr. Stalder, especially for Psych Stats
He can be VERY confusing. You have to read way to much in this class. The exams have so much material that comes from different directions it is almost impossible to pass them. His lectures can be interesting but honestly tend to be a bit depressing.
Stalder's lectures are very clear. He even tells you what will be on the test. If you don't like to study, this is not the class for you. You have to read each textbook chapter and study lecture notes and vocab. It's a lot of work, but it's really worth it. You can even argue your answers on assignments and he may give you points back.
Stalder is hilarious! He's kind of weird but he knows how to relate to the students and he makes a lot of funny jokes. He memorizes everyone's name which is what made me like him. If you study, the tests are pretty easy. There's a in class quiz every couple weeks, sometimes hard. Skim over the book & take good notes and there should be no problems!
Also had him for stats, he's great. He tries to be funny but it's more like a dry humor, i still laughed a lot. Every couple weeks there's a quiz and they're somewhat hard. You have to read the book and although attendance isn't mandatory you should go to class for the notes. He learns everyone's name which is super nice.
I personally think the psych teachers at Whitewater are not very good. Dan Stalder proved me wrong. Best psych teacher at this school in my opinion. If you show up for class & take notes you will do great. He wants his students to succeed!! If class does poor on an exam he will possibly find extra-creditalso goes over correct answers. Minimal hw.
Professor Dan Stalder was the best professor I have had in all my years at this school. He is a wonderful speaker and makes his lectures extremely funny with cool anecdotes to remember most everything and really ensures his students understand the material. Tests are a little tough. PLEASE TAKE HIM! I will take any class he teaches from now on.
Dr. Stalder was an amazing professor. He is one of my favorite professors I have had so far. He was great at making sure everyone knows the material before moving on. I have learned a lot. This class takes effort, but with Dr. Stalder being the professor it is definitely worth it!
He's a nice guy and is understanding and helpful. He likes to make alot of jokes during lecture. His homework is not hard and doesn't take too long to do. With that being said, don't miss lecture. He doesn't post his lecture notes online and study guides aren't clear. The book is pretty expansive and if you don't read it you will not pass.
Dr. Stalder is a fun professor. There isn't much homework assigned, but you need to take notes in class, read the book and study to do well in stats. He really wants students to understand stats, and is willing to help students. Tests are tough, so study!
Dan is a great professor, he understands that many people don't like math (stats) and will make sure to spend extra time on anything that is not understood. He moves at a comfortable pace. His tests are difficult and are based on his lecture not what is in the book. Tests often include specific examples he used or small details instead of big ideas
Taking this course you will need to know word for word definitions for the test and quizzes if you miss one word the whole problem will be wrong. there isn't a lot of homework and tests are very challenging. He does make a lot of time aside if you need extra questions, but he does not understand why you don't understand it.
Professor Stalder is a great professor that knows the course material. His quizzes and exams are very difficult. His exams are at least four chapters that consist of many trick questions (Ex. This chapter had four subheadings- which of one of these is NOT a subheading?). If you don't study the text, take notes, or go to class- you won't pass.
Dan is funny and super passionate about his field. His quizzes and exams are tough because he asks text specific questions (like "which of these was NOT a title in the text?'). Otherwise he's a very engaging professor and cares about his students. I'm a social psych buff myself so I thought this class would be easy, but he's a tough grader.
Seemed really awkward at first, but he's actually really funny and knows what he's talking about. Bit of a dork, but a great prof!
Does really good at explaining the material in lecture and is very considerate if you are sick or have something going on.
He is an AWESOME professor. He genuinely cares about his students and he definitely knows what he's talking about. He is very strict on how you word things and quizzes/exams can be tough. Very smart individual and very goofy. He will share cheesy jokes here and there but that is the best part in attending class. Definitely recommend him!!
Professor Stalder has been one of my favorite professors so far. He genuinely cares for all of his students and is always there for extra help. I was very worried about this course but he made the class so enjoyable and worth taking!
4 midterm exams with only 30 multiple choice questions and 1 final exam. A few easy homework assignments and lots of extra credit opportunities. Professor Stalder really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Will study with you and help you on the homework. Keep in mind you need to attend class and study to do well in this class!
Stalder is a great guy, a little goofy, but he really cares for his students and wants everyone to pass with flying colors. Class isn't mandatory but you will want to go. Stay on top of text book readings and you will get an A.
He might seem a little bizarre at first, but he's a really cool guy. Tries to make sure everyone who wants to be included is. Very respectful and understanding of students and their lives. Lets you leave early after exams (at least in PSYCH 211)
His test seem way to tough for what the course is supposed to be. And he gets pretty annoying by saying sorry every 3 seconds for anything that might slightly offend somebody. He just comes off as pathetic and beta.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He goes above and beyond to help you understand the material. I am not good at math and I'm doing much better than I thought I would in Stats. Dan gives a lot of opportunities to do extra-credit & loves when you ask questions. His notes are really helpful and I highly recommend going to his office hours!
He is a great professor. He doesn't speed through his lectures, and he makes sure everyone has written down the slides. He is really laid back, cool, and easy going professor. Once you complete an exam you can leave. He is always willing to talk to you after class or during his office hours if you have a ?. Definitely one of my favorite professors.
Professor Stalder is very understanding for his students. He is lecture heavy, but it's only because he loves what he does. He does tend to try to relate to students to make the class seem shorter and to draw your attention back in. I would take him if again if I had the opportunity.
Professor Stalder is a great professor. He constantly repeats himself so that you know that something is important. He also cares for his students and constantly offers more office hours and encourages you to come in for a one-on-one. His overall teaching is amazing and he is very quirky and fun to be around. I highly recommend.
His lectures can be boring because his voice is kind of monotone. He always encourages students to ask for help if they need it. I'm not a fan of his tests/exams because some questions are worded weird. He is very quirky like Spencer Reid. Not too hard but if you don't read you may struggle. His slides are great for taking notes tho!
Very interesting and smart guy. Go to class, take notes, and trying some will guarantee you pass. He's a little odd, but definitely one of the best professors at the university.
Dr. Stalder is my all-time favorite professor at Whitewater. I have learned so much from him and he is a very nice guy who is willing to help his students. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities and is funny during lecture. Be prepared for textbook reading and try to stay on top of it because it will show up on exams!!
Professor Stalder is a great guy and he really cares about all his students. The class is kind of tricky, especially if you are not a math person- and he wants you to read the math textbook. He is so nice and funny though, he makes a crappy class not so bad.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He is incredibly smart and excited about what he teaches. You can clearly see that he loves social psychology and loves talking about it. He offers very interesting insights and makes sure to say when he disagrees with the textbook opinion. If you have the opportunity to take his class, take it!
Stalder is an AMAZING GUY. I am terrible at statistics and even though I didnt get the grade I wanted I know I learned so much from him. He did his best to help me and would constantly tell the class to come to his office hours. He always gave up his free time to help students. His lectures made it fun in a hard class.
Professor Stalder is a great teacher. He makes sure to use mnemonics to help you remember stuff for the exams, and relates his material to different everyday things. He repeats himself a lot so that you make sure you got it down. Dan has a dry sense of humor and it makes class enjoyable. As long as you study you'll do fine on the exams.
Stalder is a great guy. He always wants his students to succeed. Lectures are super interesting and you can tell he loves what he teaches. Only downfall is he has super tough exams so make sure you study really hard and go to his office hours!!
Dan Stalder is by far one of the worst professors i've ever had. He goes off on tangents and then randomly drops test related info. Many of his test questions are not even on material covered in class or the books but will be about where specifically they where located in the book. Also be ready to buy this guys book that he wrote but barely use!
Either memorize everything or have your textbook and notes at hand because otherwise his specific questions about where stuff is located in the textbook or notes (not on the material itself) will be unanswerable. Nice guy but it is so hard to learn from him as a teacher.
Prof. Stalder is a nice guy, he does a good job of explaining the material. If you miss a class you're gonna want to know what you missed. The only thing I don't like is that he doesn't have a laid out plan, just randomly tells you he put an assignment up. I like to know well in advanced.
He is a great professor and is always available to help people outside class when they need it. He explains the material well and the homework assignments are not to hard as long as you pay attention during lectures .
This teacher is honestly not the best one the class average on every test is around 42/70 which is a D-. He does give out extra credit. but does not help because its only 6 points he honestly should curve the test. if your not good at math do not. take him!!
Worst professor Ive ever had. Talks like you should already understand everything. Ive always gotten As and Bs but I barely passed his class. All the homework you have to do to keep up but it isnt graded. Tests are everything and graded awfully. I would drive around without my seatbelt on in hopes of crashing so I could be done with this class
The worst. Would talk about nothing and randomly drop test info. Expected you to write down every word of his lecture and memorize everything he said for tests. I learned nothing but how to look up answers in this class.
Dan is probably the greatest prof Ive had. I took psych 211 online and we had textbook and lecture notes to take, it is very material heavy but if you put in the work you will do great on the exams. 1 assignment per chapter but its easy with the notes you take to get 100% on them. He does try to make lectures fun but in a prof way
I had to take this course online due to the pandemic, and Professor Stalder did a great job teaching statistics online. He is very kind and laid-back. He always repeats and discusses material that someone might be struggling with. This course does require a lot of work, and those who skip class will likely not do too well!
He has a goofy personality and a bland sense of humor but that's what made his lectures interesting. He doesn't have a set plan on assignments and often gives assignments throughout the course. His exams are challenging and hard, so you will need to study. He also takes a long time to grade. Otherwise nice professor.
Proffesor Stalder expects you to remember every single word he says in his lectures. I got all A's and B's last semester and this semester except for this class, I wrote down the main concepts and studied those for his exams but still somehow got a C on both of them. I wouldn't take him again, worst professor i've had
Pay attention to lectures (80% of tests) and take notes. Read the textbook and make sure you understand key concepts. If extra studying one on one is needed, he is very available to help! Great guy, hoping to take him for most of psych classes!
Dr. Stalder is a great professor. Very lecture heavy but goes over everything you need to know. Leaves room for questions and often leads into conversation about movies or things unrelated to the class (which is a nice break once in a while). He's very quick responding to emails and is a kind professor.
Dan Stalder is a great professor and I loved going to his class. He is very easy to talk to and he has no problem going back if someone doesn't understand something. The class itself is difficult but Dan definitely tries his best to make it understanding. weekly homework and not a lot of reading but the exams were definitely tricky.
Would be very very over picky in every way to give exact exact down to the tinniest thing ina exam when it came to a short answer and not jsut simple mistakes as he had to lieniency to any answer, and had quizes that werent the same as the covered material in regards to how problems are set up, would takeweeks to get back answers u could learnfrom
Stats class with him was a little weird online. Lectures were doable and the homework was not too hard. The fact is, is that you are graded off of so few things though. One bad exam could shove you into a poor grade for a final grade no matter how you do on everything else. He gives excellent feedback and office hours are very productive.
It takes a while to understand his point sometimes. Beware: hes BIG on academic honesty, so to him, cheating is using material from anything other than lecture or the text book. Seriously. He failed about 2/3s of us after the first exam for academic dishonesty. BUT hes super kind, patient, and supportive :)
Worst professor I have taken in my life. Extremely tough grader, not consistent with what he says, makes mistakes often, and doesnt care about what he teaches. Avoid taking this guy at all costs, he is terrible. He puts online lectures up on YouTube. They are so bad, he talks in slow motion and explains things very poorly. Tests are very difficul.
I have taken this professor twice, both times he accuses the class of cheating and then makes the class take their tests with their webcam / microphones on. Hell make u scan your room because he thinks you are cheating. His class average on all his exams were about a 65-70%, then blamed the students rather than accepting that he cant teach.
I have had professor stalder three times. Each of the three times he openly admits at the end of the semester 3/4 of the students failed his class. His teaching techniques are very poor. He LOVES to claim students cheat as well, he announces about 10 cases of academic misconduct per exam. All three times I found teaching myself was more effective.
Professor Stalder is an amazing and charismatic person. Despite my course with him being online, I always felt extremely connected and engaged due to his efforts to include some humor in his lectures. There is a lot of reading required in order to be successful, but if you do the reading and watch the lectures the tests will be easy.
His tests are impossible. I watched every lecture multiple times, I read every chapter, I took notes on everything he said and I still got Cs and Ds on his tests. I wasnt the only one, he let the class know after every tests that the avg was about a 70! How can a professor think thats okay? Test questions are very broad and very very difficult!
Lectures were terrible. Talks very slow, has a very monotone voice, and only explains things once. If its confusing, dont bother ask for help, either rewatch the confusing example he gave, or try to find the answer in the books. Most of the time I was left to look things up online. Dont waste your time with this guy, he simply doesnt care.
Doesnt care about his students. Thinks his class should be the students #1 priority. Not knowledgeable in what he teaches. Doesnt put effort into class material. Fails most of his students. Accuses students of cheating (not me, but he sent an email out tot the class stating that 2/3 of students cheated). He is simply a professor you should avoid
Im just gonna keep this short and sweet. If you take this professor, youll be writing negative reviews for him by your 3rd day in class like I was. Students who dont drop his class by week 5 deserve a scholarship simply for putting up with this guy.
Tests dont make any sense. Answers are based on whats most correct. Average test grade for the CLASS was a 70%. Meaning most of the class finished with a 70 in the class. If you want to deal with a terrible professor all semester, take this guy. Doesnt explain anything and wont help, simply tells you to look in the book. Dont take this guy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! All the students who take this professor know that he leaves positives reviews for himself on this website. The good ratings are completely false (not to mention they sound exactly like what a professor would say) Fails 75% of students, tests are manipulative, lectures are poor, accuses people of cheating, DO NOT TAKE!!!
Look up Daniel Stalder on YouTube and youll see his lectures. He explains things once, if you dont get it hell tell you to rewatch the confusing example or to look in the book. Tests are very difficult and there no assignments. If you do bad on one test youll fail the class. Doesnt care about his students and doesnt do a good job at all.
All exams include numerous right answers for each question, but you have to choose the most right option (which is largely opinionated), this professor loves to fail students, openly says class average for the course was 69%. The lectures are confusing, boring, and long. Professor directs students to book for learning more than his lectures.
Worst professor I have ever taken in my life. Doesnt care about his students. Doesnt understand that students have a life too. He expects students to make his class #1 priority. Dont even try to reschedule a test or an assignment. Hes unwilling to adjust. Youre only hurting your GPA if you take him. Take my word for it, DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Tests and assignments are impossible. His lectures are very dull and confusing (just look his name up on YouTube) There are multiple correct answers on his tests and you are asked to chose the most correct one which is largely opinionated. Over half the class received an avg of 70 or lower on his exams last semester. He simply cannot teach.
Horrible professor. Does not teach, openly tells students that the text book is where students go to learn, and the professor is their to help guide the learning. It should be the other way around. Sends emails out explaining how over half his students failed his course (which by the way he has done each time I had to take his class) Save yourself.
Terrible, terrible, terrible, professor. Simply does not care about his students or what he teachers. Seems like being a professor is his side job because he offers little to no help outside of class. Most students fail or drop a class with him. Trust the reviews and dont take this guy. Youll regret it if you do. Terrible professor.
This guy literally doesnt care about teaching. Its like hes trying to get fired. Literally not sure how he even has a job. Cant teach and practically wont teach. The only thing he puts effort into is failing half his class. Dont bother watching his lectures, they arent helpful. Be prepared for needing to teach yourself. This guy stinks!!!!!
I am dropping his class later today. I should have listened to these reviews, they are all true. Worst professor at the university and worst one I have ever taken BY FAR! What I find interesting is that he accused my class of cheating on the first exam. All the previous reviews said the same thing, that's really odd and should be looked into.
Simply terrible, don't take a class with this guy.
I saw the bad reviews for this guy and took a class with him anyways. I regret that choice. All the reviews were right! He sucks. Don't take him. Be smart.
This professor was by far the worst professor I have ever taken in all my years of education. Lecture are very dry, he talks very slow. 4 exams and a final. 2 assignments a week. Exams and assignments are 100% trick questions. He literally must design them so students fail. Class average on exams so far have not been above 70%. Do not take, avoid!!
If you take Dr. Stalder just be prepared to read the book and watch the lectures. Statistics was hard but Dr. Stalder was always available for me. I attended all his office hours and extra sessions. If you do whats expected of you, you should do well.
Dan Stalder is in my top 3 all-time favorite professors. Read the textbook, read the readings, and take the dang notes. It's an easy A as long as you pay attention and truly attempt to grasp the material. Assignments can all be 100%s if you go to his office hours and show that you have tried on the questions. He is very accessible, and caring.
Try and think of the worst professor that you have had. I promise this guy is 100x worse. Read and trust the reviews. I wish I had known about this website before. The people who left good reviews were probably paid to do so.
This professor is a very tough grader! If you want to be successful in this course, you basically have to write down every detail from each lecture video because there are tons of trick questions on the tests.
This dude sucks! Literally the worst professor I have ever taken in my life. So much homework, mandatory graded lectures, and the tests are basically impossible because they are full of trick questions. If you want even a D in his class, you will have to spend at least 3 hours a day dissecting his confusing lectures.
Routinely fails students
Tests and assignments are impossible.
4/5 difficulty rating says enough
Save your GPA
I was suppose to be graduating in December, however I now need to take a winter class because of this professors unclear and tricky grading criteria!
If you are an above average student, and do above average on his exams, he will accuse you of cheating. Class average for 4 exams was roughly a 72%.
By far the hardest professor I have ever had. I took a 5 credit astronomy lab science; I had to put more time and effort into this 3 credit class. I had to teach myself the material.
Does not respect his students, and very unwilling to help. In his office hours all he does is consistently repeat the information until you either leave or give up.
I have never been more upset by a teacher. his hard rules are incredibly unrealistic. Accuses everyone of cheating and grades like his life depends on giving Fs
Dan Stalder's grade heavy assignments. There are too much readings and taking notes was almost every slide because it was important. I missed 2 bullet points and it was such a big deal he deducted about 3 points out of 10. There are do many notes to take when the quiz is only around 9 questions. Overall, class course was a heavy class.
Very bad professor. Extremely tough grader, simply does not teach. I read the reviews and took him anyways, biggest mistake. All of them are true, avoid him at all costs or your grade will suffer regardless if your a good student or not. He's very mean to students if they don't understand. He will call them out for being dumb, who does that?
Just read his reviews, the only good review included the statement, "...but if you do the reading and watch the lectures the tests will be easy." Like come on, that is only something a professor would say. And Stalder is totally the guy who would write good reviews about himself because he knows his classes stink! Don't take him.
The homework is very lecture and textbook based so make sure you take good notes on the lectures and read the textbook and you should be fine. His office hours are accommodating and he is always available to answer any and all questions through email.
I don't know what all these bad reviews are talking about. He was great! Show up to class. Take notes. He gives extra credit, he is not hw heavy, and he offers so many office hours and opportunities to get help. He tells you everything you need to know (no self-teaching). He was kind and tried to be funny. I don't see why everyone is hating on him
Absolutely horrible. Probably the worst professor I have ever had so far. Purposefully fails students and is extremely rude. Needs to be fired ASAP. I learned literally nothing. Made my semester 100 times more stressful because of this class. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HIM !!!
Dan has the amazing ability to create connections and make the class seem personalized, even in it's online format. There is a lot of reading, assignments, and multiple exams, but as long as you do the readings and listen to the lectures they are not very difficult. This course was one of my favorite psych courses that I have taken so far.
Dan is very informative and get you to where you want to bed. But, you have to put the work in. He's a little paranoid about cheaters. Make sure to word everything carefully, as there is a set answer he is looking for. Anything other than his words, he'll dock points. Notes are essential, you don't want to miss out on using them for tests.
Not good, avoid this one at all costs.
Do NOT take this class. So much outdated information. Harsh grader and purposely makes it hard to pass.
Thinks his class is the only class students have. Unclear syllabus that is built to make a student struggle. Avoid him
Attendance is not mandatory, but you will miss important class lectures. If you miss class, make sure to attend his office hours or else you will fall behind and fail assignments. He is very flexible with his schedule and has a lot of opportunities to make up work or help you with assignments.
Supposedly the entire class cheated on his exam. He does this to his class every semester. He made everybody retake it, and the entire class got below a 70% avg.
Extremely difficult even for an A student
Took an online class with him and was very difficult. He is paranoid about cheating and will give 35 minutes for 20 questions- at least 4-5 of them short answer. This is not nearly enough time for the material on the test. There are 3 exams and a final exam, all pretty difficult.
One of the worst professors. He has an anxiety problem about cheating. He gives you so little time to take exams and most of his course is all Exams. If you care about your grades don't take this course. Whether you like psychology or not, don't take his classes I would not recommend Dan Stalder to anyone. Please Save Yourself.
Very bad
Try to avoid his classes and take another professor, did not enjoy his classes at all and I had to teach myself
He just tells you a brief overview and makes you read the book. YouTube videos will do most of the teaching, very sad.
I don't understand why people dislike his classes so much. I took Psych 211 online, and his lecture videos are engaging and at times fun to watch, I legitimately enjoyed watching them. The assignments and exams are easy As, even if you do the bare minimum by taking notes along with the lectures and readings. He's a super sweet guy.
He is extremely enthusiastic about teaching the material and is very knowledgeable. The material was not taught very effectively, I feel like it was a class level of confusion regarding some of the chapters.
Did not enjoy his classes at all. Very difficult material and lessons are very confusing.
Officer hours are rarely open, he will use that time to just sit there and read the book
Not sure how he got any positive reviews, but then again, Stalder would definitely be the person to use his time to write himself good reviews for his ego.
most try find the easy classes. Standers classes are very difficult. not a nice person, unnecessary amount of work assigned out of class. Not just a hard class, not a good professor either
Tests are virtually impossible, took a summer class with him and he canceled classes like 6-7 times and then tested us on material he never taught.
Dan Stadler cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He has office hours from 1-8pm Mon-Sat. He knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about teach. His class is difficult and a lot of work if you want to do well on the exams. There's lots reading, but he tells you exactly what you need to review and gives hints for exams.
he comes off as helpful for students that are struggling but doesn't actually care if you pass. insists that stats is not math…maybe i'm wrong but it definitely is. i would not recommend if math is a struggle for you
Not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here? At first, I would say that I wasn't a fan of his lectures, etc. but after taking a couple exams you can tell that he really sets you up to succeed on them. All you have to do, to do well, is pay attention, read, and take notes are you're already 80% of the way there.
Professor Stalder's PSYCH211 class is challenging but rewarding. The textbook and lecture videos are helpful, though he can be strict on exams. Unstuckstudy and detailed note-taking are great study aids to succeed in this course.
Kinda slow in his explanations, but gets to the point eventually. Very nice and willing to help you understand, funny guy. Makes class interesting if no one else will
Wonderful professor, willing to help, and funny. Has some dry humor (which I appreciate) and really tries to make class engaging and informative. Always has office hours open so getting help isn't hard, but sometimes difficult because they are BUSY. People pop in and out for help, so definitely MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
Very dry professor, lessons don't make sense, asks you to go to office hours and just puts the book in front of you and makes you read the chapters. When you ask questions in office hours he says, “you have the book, use that”
Accused entire class of cheating, very strange because if you read through older reviews from years ago, many students say the same thing…seems like a pattern
He the author of a complicated mess of a book, then forces students to buy it “for the class”. He made an assignment where you have to submit a picture of you holding the book to show proof you bought it. He then assigned us to read like 5 pages of the book throughout the entire semester and nothing else, but profited hundreds a semester.
I love the material of the course, it's quite interesting and I like Dan's lectures. Unfortunately that is partnered with horrid testing methods. His tests are more like heavily weighted reading comprehension tests that involve pseudo-application. Hopefully you can memorize HIS book word for word!
Stalder does his best to make the exams as difficult and nuanced as possible. He aims for a class average of 65. Enough said.
Terrible terrible terrible professor. Tests are impossible, class average 65%. When everybody is failing, it's not the students, it's the one who's teaching
Easily the worst professor and teacher I've had in my 22 years of living, honestly not sure how he has a job or even got one.
2 100 question tests a month that will highly impact your grade. My GPA is 3.4. I get As and in all my classes, never have had issues. His test questions are very difficult even for a decent student. All test answers are right and you have to choose the “most right”. Basically leaves it up to him on what's right vs wrong.
Because of a mix-up with transferring, I took 216 before this class and got an A, but somehow got a B in 215. He runs around the point five times before getting there every lecture, and pulls minuscule sections and definitions from the textbook to ask you detailed questions on. The average exam score was 65%. I can run every test but got a B.
Forget a comma, minus a point. You write something instead of copying and pasting the answer. Minus a point. Asks you the page number you get the answer from in the textbook and you're two pages off. Minus a point, even if you got the correct answer. More then half the class if not 75 percent failed the exam. He makes me rethink the college route.
Highly associative and circular thinking. metacognitive delusion (thinks disorganization = "depth"). His self-written book repeats long-winded anecdotes, delaying to create faux suspense ("to reveal your bias"). narrative-driven rather than concept-driven. Implicit memory testing, grading on phrasing rather than conceptual mastery. and much more...
Dr. Stalder is a great teacher any reviews about him that are bad are either because the student was lazy or didn't go to him for help. The course is obviously not a piece of cake, but he practically holds your hand throughout the entirety of the course. If you go to class, takes notes, and do a little bit of studying you should be set.
Any “good” review was clearly left by Stalder. No student refers to themselves as “the student”. He is a terrible person who definitely would be the guy to write good reviews about himself. Trust the bad ones, and don't take him.
Accused the entire class of cheating on his exam and made everybody retake it. Just like those Tik toks of those super strict professors you see. The weird thing is if you look back at the reviews, apparently he has a history of blatant accusations of this stuff. Clearly no integrity.
His tests are virtually impossible. It's always “what's the most right”and very opinionated. He brags that his class average in tests are 70%. Even students like myself with a 3.4 gpa (not great but also not terrible) struggle immensely with this class. Don't take it!
He has a YouTube channel of his lectures. Just look up Daniel Stalder on YouTube. He's awful. His tests are worse. He thinks his class is the most important in the university.
He published a book about psychology that he uses for EVERY one of his classes. The book is terrible and he makes every student buy it for $20. Then we read one chapter week 1 of the semester and never open it again. He's just profiting off the students. We never read the book he just made us buy it and all the money goes to him.
he sucks ngl . the tests suck , the lectures suck , his book sucks , and is lowkey racist . don't take this class fr it's a headache waiting to happen.
he doesnt help his students and when he does its not very good at all and tries to confuse you more. Don't take him he will fail you if its not his words
DO NOT TAKE HIM PLEASE. Makes you read his book and watch movie length online lectures that will surely put you to sleep. The exams are quizzes suck and the exams are even worse. He also grades like he hates you. The entire class does poorly on the exams as well, cause he grades like he hates you. dnt take this class. PLEASE.
