She is great! Lots of writing but she helps, a lot she is willing to read your essay before you turn it in....
She is slightly biased against men, but overall ok. She seemed like she had a problem with giving A's. I got two 89%s on essays, and ended with a B, missing an A by like 1%
A GREAT teacher. She reads your essays before they are due and leaves marginal notes on your paper that are helpful. I loved her class. It was fun and interesting.
this is the best teacher i've ever had, she answers your questions when you have them.when essays are due she always go over it with you and give you feed back. i recommend her. she's the best and you will learn from her,her class makes me actually want to go to class.
She only teaches everything I knew sinse middle school and still grades on college level.

She's a kool teacher! very outgoing and talkative. She'll help you in any way..and plus you can give her your essay for her to correct before you turn it in the next day. she's very helpful!
I took her for the summer 2005. I think she is a very food teacher. Her topics are relateable. I really enjoyed her class, i loved going every day. I was sad on the last day. My advise is to partispate in class discussions, do the homework (which is not alot), and do peer review. Her class takes a lot of effort but it is worth it!

She's a very cool teacher! very outgoing and talkative. I liked her class a lot, eventhough I am not the best writer. I got "B" in her class.
I loved this class! Dana is a great instructor. Very clear on what she expects on the writing assignments, and is willing to look over your assignment before you turn it in so as to offer feedback/suggestions. I found Dana to be helpful. Either keep a positive attendance and do the work, or end up with a bad grade. It's up to you.
She is very biased against men. Gets sidetracked telling stories instead of covering course material. Dont take unless you have no other choice.
she is probably the best english professor i have had so far! i took her over the summer and she taught me a lot! she is willing to read over and correct your essays befor you turn them in which is a plus! her topics are easy to relate to as well. she does a very good job in preparing her students for english 300.
She is fantastic! Take her!!! In her class you guys will -> Watch movies! Write essays! Do group Discussions! Do Class Discussions! And she even corrects your essay before turning in! Just focus in class and join in the Class discussions. Try to express your ideas and opinions during the class discussions to her and you'll be fine! Have fun!
Obviously a popular instructor, but SCC's English Department has had so much difficulty since AR sent the ACT English assessment scores to be graded there back in '89. Not many people remember that now, nor do many SCC faculty members acknowledge it, but it did happen and has affected English classes at bot campuses. But the language? Who knows!
She's too old to be considered "hot". She's hard, boring, and spends too much time talking about irrelevant things.
Dana is awesome. I've taken her for 2 semesters and I'd take her for more if I needed the classes!
Great professor very smart and open minded. Creates a nice atmosphere that promotes a creativeness that helps write papers.
Shes Fabulous! i hate english but she makes me enjoy it. shes easy to go to and ask questions. very nice.
This teaher is awesome. She makes class interresting and is willing to help with any concerns or questions you might have. If you do the work you'll be happy with your grade (NO quizzes!)...I highly reccommend her.
I love her! i am taking her next semester. She is soo nice and helpful and makes you want to learn. Great teacher
GREAT teacher. I've taken her two semesters and got an "A" in both. Just read the material and write a decent essay. I loved participating in her class discussions. The material she picked was always something I had interest in. Very VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY CLASS! (if you're a vegetarian like me, you'll find this class informative and fun).
This is a great instructor.Follows a syllabus, is always willing to assist students and their needs, and teaches the subject well. She grades essays fairly;before turning in the essay you can come so se can give you suggestions-very helpful!Highly reccomended!!
She is a great teacher very easy to talk to and she is very laid back. I took her class for 2 semesters and both times got an A.
ARMSTRONG IS VERY HELPFUL. HER TOPICS ARE EXTREMELY BORING, MOSTLY ABOUT ANIMALS WELFARE AND PROTECTING ANIMALS RIGHTS. SHE GRADES REALLY HARD ON GRAMMAR AND SHE IS LENIENT AND SHE'S EASY TO TALK TO. DON'T TAKE HER UNLESS YOU HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO REVISE, REVISE, REVISE. DON'T TAKE HER!
She's insane! She assigns so much reading and she's very unorganized. I don't know if it's because it's summer school or what not. She gives one pass to rewrite paper and one late paper but still, I work so hard and I had a progress report of a C and I'm an A student! Her topics are so hard to write about, only if she gave more time to read the
materials, maybe her students would have done a better job. One paper I had no grade because it was too vague which is ridiculous because I spent more time than other papers. She's easy to talk to but she seems not to like me and the other students. She grades super hard and dock you off point for every grammar and comma slices. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
i took this lady for 2sem...her teaching is OK...but its not all that. i guess if i was some lame animal rights activist i would have loved this class but this lady has a serious agenda...all the reading in her class deals with animal rights if u dont care about that dont take her u wont pass
I'm super confused as to why all these people kept mentioning how hard this class was. Dana is an amazing teacher. She gives lots of assignments that you turn in with the essay in order to help you understand the material and give you a head start. Best teacher I've had at SCC, without a doubt.
Horrible teacher! I'm an A student and I have a B-/C+ in her clss. All her essays are on animal rights and her grading is biased. She's unorganized and doesn't stick to the syllabus. A lot of novel reading.
I am shocked at how many people wrote that her summer Engwr300 class was hard or lame! Ms. Armstrong was by far the best prof. i've had yet. She's very helpful, loves her job, intelligent and is very understanding. I loved the animal rights unit and many others in my class opened up to it as well. Not for lazy procrastinators!!
I as well am shocked by the people who thought Dana was an awful teacher. She is easily the best teacher at SCC. You definitely have to work hard but she is always willing to help and you learn sooo much from her. I thought her topics of choice were interesting and current. Best class at SCC.
She is a nice person but she rambles on a lot. The material is annoying even for a vegetarian I wanted more variety & current topics. I would probably get a better grade if I weren't lazy. She's not a bad teacher but I do not recommend her because I didn't learn a thing from the class.Thumbs down Sorry Dana!
cant say she is good or bad since its on reading articles and analyzing them. its not a bad thing necessarily but the topics was in my opinion not interesting. but i think its an easy A. my grade was based on laziness and procrastination.
Very nice. I personally enjoyed her topics compared to the same old rehash of the odyssey and catcher in the rye. Its an easy class, just put in the effort.
great teacher! Lets you have a late pass for a paper, good topics, in class essay topics are reviewed before hand, no textbook required. Loved this class
We wrote about 6-7 essays which was not that bad except for the fact they were ALL about animal rights. ALL OF THEM!!!! it was so annoying. There was absolutely no variety what so ever. She is a nice lady but that doesn't make up for how boring her class is. just think... a whole semester dedicated to writing about animal rights... **** that
She was a really down to earth professor. If you don't like writing about "touchy topics" this isn't the class for you...the whole semester consisted of animal rights papers for all of her Fall '10 classes. The class isn't hard though and for the most part she's very lenient with students on their attendance and turn in dates.
This professor is an easy grader. She will contact you if you get anything below a "C" and ask that you try and revise it before she logs it into her grade book. Super hard to fail her class because she cares about her students. Her topics are all about animals and adventure. Which is a nice trade from current world topic. Take her class. You'll lo
This was one of those classes that I dreaded taking but with her it was not as bad as expected. She is very helpful and willing to work with you. I was kind of skeptical about the topics at first but I grew to like them. Make sure you do the reading she expects you to participate in class discussions.
I took her for the summer semester and she was a very good teacher. Topics are interesting and she is very helpful. She allows 1 late paper and 1 revised paper. Make sure you do all your work and you'll be fine. I Would take her again for 300, if it wasn't at 7:30am!! :( Overall, I enjoyed taking her class.
She was an outstanding teacher. She is very understanding and easygoing. It was my favorite class this semester. I'd take her again for 300, however, not at 7:30am.
Dana was so cool, she followed the syllabus throughout the semester which I always helped me stay on track. She was also a very generous grader. I'd recommend.
Armstrong is a very kind and helpful professor. Most of our papers were spent on animal rights and ranged from meat-farming, to shark-finning, and lastly a zoo research paper. I recommend showing up to her class everyday because she is a professor that tries really hard to be there for her students.
Ms.Armstrong is the best writing professor at SCC. Students have to write three formal essays and one page research paper. She allows 1 late paper and 1 revised paper. Two midterms and one final. She is very nice and helpful to her students.
I took Professor Armstrong for EngWr 100 and 300. I hated English and writing papers but Professor Armstrong managed to make me enjoy it. I gained a different aspect on life taking her class. If you take her for 100, take the 300 class to understand why she's so passionate about animals. Best teacher at SCC!
There are 2 types of teachers: 1st you forgot, 2nd you'll remember the whole life. Prof. Armstrong is the one you'll remember the whole life because she actually teaches you, at the same time being loyal with grades. You can get A or B if you just do your job! Class is hard, but it's worth it. She is always ready to help. Great teacher!!!
She is really good at her job. She is fussy about grammar. Other an grammar she is extremely helpful. The class was fairly simple. She gives the majority of the homework for the rest of the semester on the first day of class. I'm not of fan of writing but i managed to get an A on the majority of my papers. I would take her again!
You can turn one paper in 1 week late, you can do a rewrite of one paper to raise the grade and, any paper can be turned in before the end of the semester for a grade up to a C. No penalty for late HW. SUPER Helpful. Really wants all students to do well. Truly goes above and beyond.
Her class is painfully boring and all she talks about is animals. The entire class is based on zoos/animals and it gets old after a while. With that being said she's a great professor, provides good feedback, and a relatively easy grader. Just know what your getting yourself into when I say EVERY SINGLE paper/discussion is about animals
Don't take her class if you are not good at English. Her grading system is hard, mostly bases on grammar. If English is not your major then not a good idea to take the class.
Honestly, I didn't do my best in her class that's why I received the grade I did. It doesn't mean she is a hard teacher. She grades fairly and is very helpful. I have taken her class last semester, and it was great. She really helped me become a better analytical reader and writer :)
Wonderful professor, great at her job, very organized, very helpful, and her lectures about animal freedom opens your eyes to your own freedoms and the type of environment you live in. She grades pretty fair, it's simple: you invest time and effort, follow instructions, you get an A. You don't do your job as a student, you'll not pass! TAKE HER!
Dana is definitely a great teacher. She is is willing to take the time to help the individual student. Topics for this class surround animal rights and ethics. This can be frustrating, but there is a ton of information out there so they are easy to write about. Lots of discussions that help you consider your topics. Overall I would recommend her.
Seems all she cares about is your thesis statement on papers. If you write an excellent paper with an "unclear" thesis statement you won't see higher than a C and if you write a garbage paper with an excellent thesis you'll get a B or higher guaranteed. I feel like she just pulls grades out of nowhere sometimes based on your thesis statement alone.
Cool teacher and extremely helpful. Class itself is pretty boring, material is based on animals. Her assignments are also extremely vague. Make sure you turn in an intro to see what she says about it. Your grade is pretty much made in your intro/thesis statement.
Took her clas over the summer so that I wouldnt have to wait to take it at sac state. It was simple and she's really nice and helpful to her students. She never turns you down if you need help. It was a fun course for over the summer.
Great Professor. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable with English Writing. Though the class is filled with animal rights foundations, it definitely makes you think more than just English Writing and College but your own personal life and morals. Definitely interesting even to those who never showed an interest in animal rights like I had.
Awesome teacher! Learned alot about writing and other subjects, of course pertaining to animals. I have definitely experienced college level foundation's of thinking after taking her in the Spring of 2013. Eventually you learn to think outside of the box and essays become EASY. Have not felt troubled by any formal writings after leaving her class.
Dana Armstrong's teaching is simple and clear, she explains the assignments in a clear way, she give students enough time do their home work and write their essay on time, answers the question at the end of her lectures, she has passion for teaching, she is trying to be fair and talk to every single students before assignments(essay) due date
I had her for both ENGWR 101 and 300. She is dedicated. For her 300 class she stresses animal rights. She challenged us to think about where our food comes from, how animals are treated, and the effect on the planet. That's the best any professor can to challenger his or her students to throw out assumptions and think about issues.
She give a lot of feedback on the work you put in and gives suggestion on how to improve, by taking tutoring or go to her office hours. She also allows assignment to be turn a week late only once or redo an assignment for improved grade.
Professor Armstrong is a fantastic professor. I took her for 101 even though I didn't need to take that class. I tested into ENGWR 300 but want to go the honors route and its been years since I've touched English Writing. So this was a refresher course for me, and she w extremely insightful and she really cares about her students.
This is my first semester here and I had no idea what to expect. Professor's are REAL people and they do care, Armstrong helped me notice that. We are encouraged to share our own opinions because they matter. Not only did I learn more about other classmates but I felt like I was also given a different pathway towards my own views. Don't miss out!
My Fav writing Proffessor. It was a fun class and she had provided all the possibilities for her students to understand the lectures. Encourage students to talk and share their opinions for porjects and essays. She really care about every single student and will help them inside and outside the class always and i took her WR300 already.
she is the worst professor I have ever seen. She is tough grader. Her lectures are not clear and understandable.
Professor Armstrong is a great English teacher. She give insightful feedback and is accessible outside of class. She isn't strict and has a great personality. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for a great professor.
She cares about her students and wants them to do their best.
Probably the best english teacher I've ever had. She tries so hard to help her students succeed. She breaks her back for us and puts her students first. There is no reason you shouldn't pass this class, the teacher is excellent. I actually learned a lot from her and I would absolutely take this class again if I could.
Dana is very understanding and caring. The class is easy if you keep up with readings and pay attention in class. I would say all four papers were very essay. Also, highly recommend going to her office hours at least every other two weeks she helps u understand more on the topic. Very sweet
Very kind and caring professor! She really cares about her students and gives great feedback on what you need to improve in your writing. She assigns three 4-page essays and one 8-10 page paper throughout the semester, along with the midterms. Put effort into your essays because you have to work for that A! Definitely recommend!
Professor Armstrong is a good professor, but her grading is tough! She makes you revise your essays until its good. So if you get a low grade, shell make you revise it till it recieves a higher grade. You have to attend the writing lab four times (part of grade). Two midterms and a final. Lots of essay writings and peer reviews.
She is an amazing professor. A little tough on the grading however, she gives you a lot of opportunities to pass the class and get a better grade on your paper. There is a lot of reading to do. Don't slack off otherwise you will do great in her class.
You should take her class because she helps provide structure in your writing. she also is really good about communicating .
She is an amazing professor. we were supposed to write 4 out of class (including research) papers, and 3 out of class. She gives very good feedback. She gives enough time between essays. You can revised one of the paper and submit one at least one week late. she gives extra credit if you go to Writing Center. TIP: meet here before submitting essay.
She is such a good professor! She cares a lot about her students and takes the time to help guide you become a better writer. She's very thorough in her explanations and makes class enjoyable for everyone!
She's really caring and nice towards all her students, and she really understands the students and she will help you if you come to her for office hours. (Currently taking her class now) she gives you one freebie pass if you don't do your essay, but overall the homework is easy, just do your homework and essays, you will pass easy in her class.
Professor Armstrong "Really" cares about all her students and she really helps you out during Office Hours. I definitely recommend Professor Armstrong. Just show up to class and participate and the writing will come in easy for you.
Professor Armstrong, enjoys teaching and she is good at it. Every class is interesting and the work is reasonable. There are no surprises, all the material is covered well enough to be understood, without being teadius. If you don't understand something, just ask. Armstrong is approachable and kind. Show up, do the work, and you'll earn an A.
Excited teacher who cares about English. Perfect example of someone who should be teaching.
she gives good feedback but half of the time i dont get it then i get a D on my grade which males me mad because its my first time in collge.
This was a good class full of English Majors. Dana tried to give us choice on what we read and talked about and I appreciated that. I struggled with some of the themes we worked with but that was personal. Dana made sure I had every chance to succeed. I appreciate her.
There weren't any Zoom meetings, but there were instead 4 essays that I had to do over the summer. However, she gives you many great feedback and would also give you an extra credit each time you go to the Writing Center. Furthermore, this class has helped me sharpen up my reading and writing skills, which I wasn't good at doing while I was in H.S.
We had a total of 4 essays during the semester, which is not bad at all! She is super sweet and very willing to help in anyway she could. Also, she gives extra credit on each essay if you go to the writing center. I recommend going to office hours before you turn in any essay because she gives very good feedback.
Required notes on everything, notes on stuff you've already covered extensively. if notes weren't long enough she'd doc you. Her grades & feed back were like being on a bad roller-coaster. She didn't work w/people who couldn't attend meetings. she contradicts herself all the time. I dont think the amount of hair I pulled out was worth the class.
There is a reason she is the leader in this department! Real gem and you know it from day 1! You put in the time, you get an A! she gives many opportunities for extra credit (within reason), she gives great feedback, ample time for your papers, approx 4 papers and really gives you freedom to write. There is a clear rubric, clear grading light HW.
professor Armstrong is the best educational teacher I've ever had while attending college. She actually wants you to succeed in her class and inspires you to be the best you can be. Overall, she wants you to improve as a writer and she is open to working with you on assignments, and papers so that you get the best grade you are aiming for!
She is awesome. Large course-load, but guides you through it and gives you everything you need to be successful. Gives out her cell number and encourages to text any questions whenever you need. So helpful in all forms of schooling, and always there to help. Incredibly nice woman and super knowledgable. Course was very intensive, but worth it.
I took prof. Armstrong's ENGWR300 class during a six-week session. She is clear with all of the assignments and essays. We wrote 4 papers which was a lot for only six weeks, but would have been better during a normal semester. She is a very understanding and helpful professor. I would highly recommend picking professor Armstrong for ENGWR300.
I'm still currently taking this class but my experience so far has been great! She's a professor who really wants you to pass and will help you whenever you need it!
Great professor who wants their student to pass, as long as you show up and give effort you will pass this class.
Great prof. Gives detailed feedback on every assignment. Not very strict about the deadline.
Easy to reach, no strict deadlines, straightforward
Had her my first semester at SCC (Fall 2022) and I'm so glad I did. She's such a caring person and truly wants her students to succeed! Easy to reach and understandable. Even as an asynch class I felt supported by her. Course is well organized, 4 essays total, and topics were actually interesting to read and write about. I really recommend her!
I really enjoyed Professor Armstrong's online course. English isn't my first language, so it took me a while to get better at writing. She was patient, helpful, and genuinely wants her students to do well. She's also great at communicating when I have questions about assignments. I would highly recommend her to other students. Thank you again!
Stay away. She has a problem with every single mistake even the smallest ones. Did you forget to italicize? 40/100. She depends heavily on Turnitin. If one sentence gets detected as AI, docts you severely. I found myself having to write 'dumb' for it not to get detected (I'm a WRITING major). IGNORE these good reviews, I wish I hadn't taken her.
Never again
Tons of irrelevant assignments with 1-2 points possible. Minimal direction on essays & grading with little explanation. She'll allow you a few rewrites which is nice, but there's so little direction on what needs to be rewritten or revised. Peer review is weird and unhelpful paired with her vague grading.
It's a waste of time; she only knows how to upload assignments and offers no guidance when there are mistakes. Just to clarify, if I were able to write essays and topics in English, I wouldn't need to take this class. I enrolled to improve my English skills.
Professor Armstrong is a great teacher. I have her ENGWR300/80 class and although there is a lot of note taking, I think that it is well worth it. She is very caring and wants you to succeed. She is available to help you anytime you need it. I feel very lucky to have had her as my professor, and I hope that the rest of them can live up to her.
She's the head of English department at los rios btw. Lots of note taking for 1 point. She grades essays and has you revise them lots of times until she's happy with it but won't tell you what she doesn't like. Honestly would not take her again feel like I don't learn anything
Professor Armstrong's ENGWR300 class is challenging but rewarding. She provides detailed feedback and is always willing to help. I found unstuckstudy to be a great supplementary tool for study prep. Overall, a great class and professor.
She made me rethink my major.
Not a lot of essays (only about 4). A lot of graded note taking but other than that she was ok. Felt like I spent the whole course worried about the grading. Makes you rewrite and rewrite until she likes it even after you turned it in and won't change your grade so you are stuck with a D until you figure out what she wants changed
Prof is understanding but felt like I was constantly taking notes and turning them in. Worried more about the notes being to her standard then actually learning or paying attention to material
She does require notes to be turned in like they are assignments, but in hindsight I actually appreciate this structure. Instructions are clear and she frequently gives helpful feedback. After each essay you will receive a video explaining the reasoning behind the grade you receive. At the end of the day she's a thorough and professional instructor
She is an excellent teacher; she is very lenient if you show effort, and if you ask for help, she will help. She really helped me refine my writing skills. Highly recommend.
She has a specific way of grading her essays and you must follow them to get a good grade, she is a tough grader when it comes to essays too. There are a lot of notes that are required to be turned in. She has clear lectures and very accessible outside of class she is also a very caring professor.
Professor Armstrong is very sympathetic and takes into consideration that her class might not always be your number one priority. She offers a gracious late policy, for both essay and notes submissions, and offers revisions for essays as well. There are a lot of assignments, but if you enjoy having a more rigid structure then this class is for you.
