She is by far the worst prof I have encountered. Psych is supposed to be an easy A, however she makes it exponentially difficult. Every class, she simply reads off the very condensed slides in her monotonous voice. She is very boring, does not explain concepts thoroughly. The textbook is your best friend in this course, RIP if you have her.
she is awful. I mean I really couldn't find a better word to describe her. I took this course as one of my electives (wish I didn't), which points to the fact that I'm not really familiar with this kind of memorizing stuff. Guess what she responded when I told her about my situation and asked for help? '' This is how it is. Move on ''
Took a class with her before there were any ratings and am incredibly disappointed that I did. I love psych, but she has made the class incredibly painful. Youll have to live inside the textbook to get any decent grade. She also posts no practice questions so its hard to assess whether you know the material.
Any concerns you have with her will be met with a very passive aggressive response, and 1/3 of her class time is used for testing. I didnt enjoy this class. Maybe take it with a different prof if you can.
Her slides are confusing, her exams are poorly written. I study very hard in this class and find little results. This is my elective and I feel like I have to put an insane amount of effort, even more than some of my core classes.
Hopeful at the beginning because you can definitely tell she's passionate. However, if you want to do well in this class you must pay attention AND keep up with the readings. If you are not a good test taker, avoid. There were 6 quizzes spread out that accounted for 30% to substitute a midterm. She also presents herself as very unapproachable.
She make the course way more difficult than it needs to be. Her exams are wildly inconsistent, frequently full of typos, and have absolutely nothing to do with the content covered in class. Asks specific questions about specific tables in the textbook without giving you the table after saying she wouldn't test on memorization. Absolutely horrible
Terribly inconsistent in lecture and on exams. First few had averages around 80%, then started testing on specific figure captions in the textbook. Very difficult to talk to and unapproachable, especially when you ask her about exam questions on content that she never covered. Take the class with literally anyone else.
Dana wasn't bad at first, but as the semester progressed I realized how poor of a prof she is. Her lectures, assignments and tests are all very ambiguous, and she is never clear on what is expected of her students. We have 6 tests (mini-midterms) which were basically copied from the textbook, and didn't cover any concepts she made seem important
1/10 would NOT reccomend. She leaves blanks in her slides to if you miss class you're screwed, she also makes the test very detailed and hard. I was so interested in pyschocolgy but after her class, Im not so sure. If you're planning to take psyco 105, take it with another prof.
Would've given a zero if I could. No matter how hard I study I get 50-60's on my quizzes when I feel positive I'll at least get 80+. Her quizzes are poorly worded and confusing. Recently got a 45% on my quiz and I don't know how that's possible. Please don't take a class with this prof.
I took her class without listening to the reviews because I thought "how bad could she be". VERY BAD IS THE ANSWER. Through my 3 years of university I have never had a prof that is this incompetent of teaching. Please stay away from her at all costs. Theres so many other profs that Teach this class, pick one of them.
I took this class as an elective and I regret it so bad. I went to every single class, and read the textbook inside out, but yet I still did poorly on her exams. The questions are worded to trick you and some questions are not even talked about in the textbook or during her lectures. Please stay away from Dana and DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HER.
Came to lectures and studied the textbook, and I did well on the tests! The questions were from the textbook and lecture notes. She gave lots of examples so that everyone would understand the content better & thoroughly explained questions Put in the effort and you will do fine in the class. If you don't care& want a class to skip, pick a diff prof
She makes the course a little harder than you would expect, but as long as you pay attention you'll be fine. She gives you every opportunity to do better so as long as you but the effort in you will get a good mark. Tests are a somewhat difficult, but that's to be expected. If you're getting 85s thats an A.
Nice and approachable. Gives plenty of opportunities to ask questions and often makes sure that her students are understanding the material. Leaves fill-in-the-blanks in her slides so its best to come to class but its not hard to get the notes as you can always just write on the forum. Read the textbook. Class is not hard if you put in the effort.
Slides have fill-in-the-blanks so come to class but you could always ask on the forum. Lectures are interesting enough that it wasnt difficult to come to class tho. Many quizzes that act as mini midterms but they give you the opportunity to do well, I find them better than only having one or two midterms that could easily bring my mark down.
As long as you put in the effort youll do well. Read to the textbook, lectures and slides often act as summaries or supplementary info to the text. If you dont understand a concept, ask, shes approachable and gives you opportunities in the lecture. Listening to her lectures helped me better understand the material. Dont slack off.
Enjoyed her lectures, found them helpful for understanding the material. Dont understand why shes had a couple bad reviews, just dont expect her to baby you. Your mark also depends on how much effort you put in the class, you gotta pull your weight. Dont just come to class to get notes, also listen and focus on the lecture, will definitely help
Do not believe the good reviews written about her, I took her class, got and A, but i still regret it. I worked so so hard, this class requires to much work for a 100 level class. Dana is not accesable putsode of class and even if you do go to her office, she is rude and blunt. I would not reccomend this prof, take this class woth anyone else
Dont believe the good reviews. Read the textbook and try not to fail. Shes terrible.
Take this with literally any other prof, the workload will be MUCH less. Its unrealistic to say anything in the textbook or what I say could be tested, which is exactly her belief. I prefer to focus on core concepts, and this is not always her practice.
Dana is super nice and passionate about psychology. Her lectures follow the textbook really well which I found helpful. Her exams are a bit wordy but she has a rule that she counts your highest exam mark as your total midterm mark. You have to work hard in her class, but its the same amount of effort you would put into any psych course!
Read the textbook word for word. You are better off teaching your self. Her feedback is brutally vague, calling our groups project "shallow," with no feedback included (we worked very hard on it). Her midterms were very detail specific. I do not believe a psychology course at entry level should be this difficult. Would take it with someone else.
So for those of you who are thinking about taking a class with Dana and is super confused to why she has such contrasting reviews, heres my two cents. I read the chapters, memorized the key words, asked questions and listened in class and got a very disappointing score. dont take this class unless u can memorize every little detail in the text
Okay I'm conflicted because I genuinely loved Dana as a lecturer. She is engaging, knowledgeable and fun. HOWEVER she makes her exams HARD. I studied textbook and the class notes and still struggled with both the midterms. Final was actually pretty good. So yeah up to you but it's not a walk in the park!
Dana was rude and she drinks tea and then tells you to keep talking because she wants to drink more tea. At the beginning of the semester, she was like, "im not gonna make you remember these graphs", but then on the midterms, there was like "what happened in figure 2.1" like what??
Worst prof ever. Do not take her class unless you are going to go all the time and listen attentively and take extra notes. She is the worst.
Worst prof I have ever had. Shes is rude and blunt, her exams are extremely hard, Ive never had anything less than an A- in any of my classes and because of this class Im barley passing. Take this class with someone else. Avoid her at all costs
One of the worst profs Ive had in university we were graded on literally 3 things and she didnt give relevant practice problems
Avoid her at all costs. Her slides are directly from the textbook and aren't even good. Towards the end of the semester, I didn't bother going because I learned more from the textbook than any of her lectures.
Dana has frequent mistakes in her tests with highly subjective questions, and makes changes to her answers keys months after the exam so it is pointless to calculate your overall grade. She was rude on forums and in answering emails, and expects much more than your average psyco104 prof. If you can, just take it with someone else.
Dana does not take into consideration that her students have other classes. She had midterms two days in a row, so theres no way you can study efficiently. She reads from her slides during the whole lecture. Please avoid her if you can.
I had Dr. Hayward for PSYCO 104 and I thought she was very engaging and informative. I strongly recommend students to take her class. The classroom environment was very relaxed and her expectations of us for assignments and exams were clear. If you simply put in the effort, read the textbook, you will do great! :)
Dr. Hayward's passion for her field is well-conveyed in her lectures, to the point where she frequently goes off on tangents. Her lectures seem to take longer than they should, but if you read the textbook you should do relatively well. She does expect you to know some things on tests that were not discussed in length in the textbook or in lectures
She's overall a very nice women out of class and cares about her students. However she treats a 100 level course like a 200- 300 level. Some of her exam questions are way out there. She says "this won't be on the exam" then puts it in those questions. And you better study details because that's her go to. Micheal is at least a bit better.
She doesn't know how to properly teach a class or pay attention to material that she SHOULD pay attention to. Told us about citing criteria THE DAY BEFORE IT WAS DUE. Would NOT recommend.
She taught us the material we needed to know, kept it engaging, and made it simple for us to learn. This was the class that made me realize that I definitely wanted to major in psych. I would strongly recommend taking her class, and I would take a class with her again without thinking twice.
Good detailed lectures, not the end of the world if you miss class but it's better if you don't. Typical university. She doesn't baby you but did give students who submitted an assignment early without citations to resubmit.
Entertaining lectures, with easy marks if you took Bio 30. Graded by research participation (really easy 10%), 3 midterms (top 2 count) a final, and 2 written assignments. Might seem like a lot of course work but very manageable if you attend her lectures and keep on top of things. Getting good grades for all the assessments was suprisingly easy.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Dr Hayward had slides with key points of the textbook, read over them in lectures and elaborated and made sure to give examples to assure our understanding. Got 90%+ on midterms just from reviewing the slides at home. Big class and she doesn't take attendance. Two, easy, written assignments. 500 word minimum each.
Easy class with a manageable workload. The grade percentage is spread out well. If you don't want to attend class you can rely on the textbook or her slides. Lectures could get dry but she thoroughly covered the context. Midterms weren't cumulative; final is. Two easily marked writing assignment (short). Overall very nice prof.
Interesting lectures, tests on a few things but gives a fair chance to get as many marks as possible
Dana was so good and caring. she made the content seems pretty easy. she was accessible outside the class. she gives great feedback. her exams are fair and easy if you study for them. you need to read and study the textbook then review her notes. exams are based on the textbook and her notes as well. overall, she is a gem you need to take her
This was my fav class this sem! Dr Hayward is very helpful. I suggest attending classes since she says lots of useful things during the lecture. Try to take notes electronically. Psych104 isn't curved, but if you read the textbook and slides, you'll be fine. Exams and assignments are pretty straightforward. Overall- easy material and great prof !!
I really liked Dr. Hayward! The tests were overall pretty easy if you attended lectures and read the textbook. You could tell that she was passionate about psychology and teaching her students.
I dont understand how her rating is bad on this. Dr. Hayward used to teach grade school so it seems like she genuinely enjoys teaching compared to profs who despise it. She posts all lecture material online but it can sometimes be hard to understand what certain slides mean if you dont go to class and hear her explanation. Would take her agai
Her lectures were very straight forward and if some topics were harder to understand she made sure to go over them before exams. Tests were fairly easy as long as you pay attention in class and ask questions when needed.
She's great. This class is perfect GPA booster.
Took this class during move to online with COVID. She was fast to respond and highly organized. Lectures are interesting and she aims for students to understand the material. Midterm was best 2 of 3, and there are two summary/ critique assignments. She will remove questions from tests she believes are unfair/ ambiguous. Study and it's an easy pass
The class was seminar based so a large part of your grade came from participation of sorts. She was always willing to give you feedback and help you improve if you asked, but the grading did seem a little sporadic at times. Overall this was an interesting class that was relatively low stress. Also, she handled the Covid-19 situation really well!
Oh my god are the tests hard. You think you do good and then boom, 65%. Good luck, my best advice is memorize everything and reread everything over and over before tests, dont trust the open book option!!! You wont have the time.
Her lectures were clear and concise, but her tests were very difficult even though they were open book.
Difficult class. Both midterms were very difficult despite being open book. There was not a lot of time to write them. I did poorly on the written assignments but I spent a lot of time on them. TA's are tough markers. Dr. Hayward is however, very sweet. She responds fast and is willing to give up her own time to help you understand the material.
Tests were open book but the questions were very hard. Thought I did good on my midterms but I barely passed. The word count on her assignments were also unreasonable as she asks for so much but the word count is very limited so you can barely answer the questions.
Most of the midterm/exam questions are based on her lectures. Midterms are harder (more application based), but her final is easy if you make summary sheets - both tests are open book. She is interested in her students and she loves to talk to you if you visit her office hours. Relatively easy course (compared to the sciences) and a kind professor.
Lectures were very long, also tested on unmentioned textbook material, but I understood. I had two separate 50 question/minute exams, got one done no problem. Then came time for my PSYCO104 midterm, the questions and ABCDE options were too long for 1 minute per question if you have not memorized absolutely everything. Be very prepared!
You have 4 papers (1 page each) that are very straight to the point with questions and expectations, research participation - just do it and get the marks, 2 midterms and a final. She clearly states what she wants from you on assignments/exams. All lectures are asynchronous. She is helpful and has review sessions, q&a sessions.
PSYCO 104 was nearly all asynchronous which made the class a bit less enjoyable for me. I felt like a lot of lectures were rephrases of the textbook, but still offered some unique insight into them. All exams were open book but had some tight time limits (50 questions, 50 minutes), so make sure you know your stuff!
Low-stakes exams, open book and after a low average on the first exam, made the following 2 exams much easier. 3 Assignments worth 8% each and are easy As if you put in an ounce of effort. TA discussions aren't necessary.
LOL why these ratings are so low, Hayward was literally the GOAT. She replies to emails so quickly and with super in-depth answers. The lectures were split into 15 minute-long parts which made hem so much easier to get through. Exams are open book and almost every question comes directly from the notes. Pay attention and you'll get an easy A.
Dr. Hayward is a great choice for PSYCO 104. Her lectures were easy to understand, her exams were very fair, and the assignments were interesting. Would definitely take another class with Dr. Hayward!
Not super inspirational but definitely a solid choice for a professor. Had open book tests that were very fair if you studied. I really liked the grading scheme as well; the midterm you get a higher mark on is the midterm that is weighted more. One thing that I don't like is that it is implied the textbook is mandatory, but it really isn't needed.
Dr. Hayward is a great prof and very caring. Her class is organized (good for online learning), she has a good grading scheme where the midterm you did better on counts for a higher grade than the one you did worse on. Plus, she provide support such as reviews before the midterms and the final exam which helped me a lot.
I did nothing this entire semester and got an A lol.
Made the whole online situation so much better. Tests were open book and easy/fair. Didn't have to do a lot of work. Would highly recommend!
Super prof! Dr. Hayward is kind and knowledgeable. The class I found sort of easy, as I worked much harder in other classes and got lower grades, whereas I felt like I did the basic amount required for this asynchronous class. Still learned a lot though and the content is applicable to so many areas other than exclusively psychology!
I had Hayward for asynchronous PSYCO104 online and I loved it. You completely did it on your own, but she did make TAs and herself accessible for any questions. She was straightforward about everything she wanted done and everything was marked fairly. She also seemed very passionate about what she was teaching.
Dr. Hayward was a great prof, there was one summary paper, 2 presentations, and a take home final. Every week there are 3-4 papers to read, and then discuss in class, there is no "real" lecture. The remaining lecture time is class presentations.
Be prepare to read your textbook and you can skip all lecture videos. Every text in her lecture is so vague that you can't understand what does she mean. The textbook is way better in explaining concepts.
Great class, very upfront about the expectations. Exam timing was brutal, 1 minute per question. TA discussions were not helpful, not worth going to.
Had Dr. Hayward for online Psych. Midterms are fair if you understand the material. Fill-in-the-blanks are tricky as you are given a definition or scenario and have to identify the term she's referring to correctly. Very active in the forum and usually answers emails within a few hours. I would take a class taught by her again.
Psych 104 provides interesting information regarding behaviour and the brain. The course has two midterms, a final and three written assignments. The course also has a lab section which can be completed in-person or online. I found the course to be average but the midterms can be a bit tricky. I recommend reading the textbook and the lecture notes.
Her section of the course was straightforward and exams were super fair. However, TA's do not mark according to the rubric, making it unnecessarily stressful.
Dr Hayward is super passionate about the course and it showed in her lecture. She was fast to respond to questions and provided feedback after exams. Course feedback (online) was 3 assignments, 2 midterms, research participation, and the final. Assignments were all marked by a different TA, so the marking was inconsistent and a bit unfair.
Psyc 104 is divided into 2 sections; Lab & Lecture. Lab consists of 3 papers (worth 24%) that're marked very unfairly by TA's so grades are very inconsistent.(you'll lose most marks here) Lecture section, is quite straight forward. If you study her lecture notes you will do fine on the midterms(a little tricky) and finals (easier than midterms).
tests were mostly on lectures but application questions since open book. the 3 papers worth 24% are marked by low intelligence TAs which means you lose marks for fun. it's possible to do okay just by watching lectures and reading the notes. textbook helps as well but i didnt read that cuz im lazy
Very unclear expectations on assignments. When asked for clarification, she insisted her being responsive to emails 24/7 was enough clarification. Literally was left with no choice but to wing it, hope/pray and then try not to cry when reading her absolutely vicious comments & feedback on assignments.
Most watch her lecture online cause she mostly reads off the slides. All I had to do for this class was copy paste all the lecture slides into a document and ctrl f for the exams. I'm sitting around a b/b+. The exams are a bit difficult considering the time limit but doable. I think I heard somewhere she has the lowest average? oh well, shes ight.
Honestly I really enjoyed her lectures and found her to be inspiring. The exams were tough due to the time limit as well as some just genuinely made no sense. My biggest issue with the course was that there were two written assignments which were only 400 words. They asked for a million things which was difficult to shorten let alone get to 400
I had her for PSYCH 212 (couldn't tag it as such). Her teaching style feels suited to a younger audience. Tests seem easy, but grading is strict. Fill-in-the-blanks feel unintuitive, and short-answer questions often require answers she doesn't ask for. Doesn't allow test viewings.
PSYCH 212 = disorganized exams with unfair grading. Despite extensive studying, I cannot achieve above a B on her exams. Textbook is great and material is easy, but all that flies out the window when you take her dreaded exams. And she teaches like a middle school teacher, which deceives you into believing the exams will be a breeze... AVOID HER
One of the best professors ive ever had. She genuinely cares about you understanding the material and she makes it interesting enough for the class to not be any stress. She also streams on zoom and tries to make it accessible for everyone, i love her, truly. I took psych 212 with her but its not giving me the option to say that
Course content is easy and she teaches very slowly for a 200 level class. Her exams have an extremely short time limit with long and often unclear questions. I found it difficult to do well regardless of how much studying I did as the exam questions were poorly written and lacked context.
i studied decently for this course and felt i understood the content well. however, i performed poorly on her tests because they were so long and we had very little time to complete them. the fill in the blank questions were very unintuitive, she graded the written responses very strictly, yet she taught the content very vaguely.
Prof Hayward has a good teaching style. However, no matter how much effort I put in, it was still impossible to achieve the grade I wanted in the class. Exams are very open-ended, but unintuitive. You'll somehow be missing something she did not ask for. Same with the project. The TA's dock points for things that were not in the instructions.
