Lashley was a great orgo teacher! The class had 3 exams, 4 quizzes, online homework and a final exam. She allows you to drop your lowest 200 points (1 exam or all the quizzes). Her exams are very long (9-10 pages in 50 minutes) but are very straight forward if you do the book practice problems which are harder. She is also very helpful office hours
Professor Lashley is fair and uses lecture material only really on tests. Make sure you show up to them and do the online homework. The book reading can be neglected.
Honestly one of the best professors I've had at W&M. Made me really love Orgo. Her lectures are very clear; she anticipates the kinds of questions people will have and incorporates them into the notes. Has an interesting sense of humor. Take a class with her if you can
Orgo 2 in and of itself is a lot of material and difficult but Prof Lashley is an extremely fair grader, giving lots of extra credit on quizzestests and very accessible for help outside class. Truly wants her students to do well and grades tests SUPER QUICK which is nice. Interesting personality... downside is that we have to take exams in pen
Go to her if you are having trouble.
Lashley's her lectures could be a bit on the boring side. If you had questions in class, it was hard to get her attention, but she was very helpful outside of class. Her tests were tough, but she gave plenty of extra credit which helped. It was a really hard class with tons of memorization, but it was due to the material, not her fault.
Dr. Lashley's Orgo II class was probably the reason I want to be a Chem major. Her lectures are very clear, and if you still need help, her door is literally always open. She explains the material so well and she gives a ton of extra credit. She is definitely one of my favorite teachers at WM so far and her class is an easy A.
Lashly is such a wonderful professor!! Her exams are tough, but if you do the end of the chapter questions, you will be fine! Orgo is a lot of material, and she makes sure you are putting in your best to earn the grade. An A is possible, but you will have to work for it.
I have had great chemistry professors here at WM, but Lashley, by far, takes the cake. She works extremely hard to help her students and gives a ton of extra credit. She is an exceptionally fast grader, tells you exactly what you need to do to be successful in her class, and responds within the hour to every email. She is late to class a lot though
Dr. Lashley is a treasure. I have never had a professor who is more dedicated and caring of her students than Lashley. I believe she is just visiting, so don't hesitate to take a class with her if you get the chance.
Dr. Lashley is one of the most accessible, dedicated, encouraging professors I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She genuinely cares about her students' success. Her door is always open for additional help, even at 11 pm the night before an exam. Her constant support made a difficult class enjoyable. Take her class if you have the opportunity.
Lashley is the best professor on campus in my opinion. She offers many study sessions that help sum up the material. I learned an extraordinary amount about Orgo 2 and the reactions within the subject. I came out of the class with a 100.5 A and even considered changing my major because she is so awesome. Multiple EC opportunities. Give her a raise!
One of the best professors I've had. I didn't do well in Orgo I so I thought I wouldn't be able to handle Orgo II. BUT.. she makes the material clear and she is very helpful! However, you will still have to work for a good grade. If you practice the mechanisms, the tests and quizzes are straight forward and doable. An A is defini possible
Professor Lashley is the best Professor I have ever had. She made Orgo 2 so clear and exciting. You will have to work hard in this class, but just know that if you work hard you will get a great grade. Professor Lashley is extremely accessible outside of office hours. I was in her office at midnight the night before the final. She is simply amazing
Lashley is a phenomenal professor. She is funny and engaged with her students, and definitely there if you need help. She won't curve, but there is quite a bit of opportunity for extra credit. Orgo is never easy, but she made it manageable!
Professor Lashley is a great professor and is highly recommended. As hard as organic chemistry was for me, she made it bearable and was always willing to help outside of class. Tests are very hard - she makes you work for a good grade.
Professor Lashley is literally the best. Orgo II is hard--but that's because it's Orgo II. Lashley is a GREAT instructor, explains everything really well, posts all her lecture notes, tons of practice exams and quizzes, hosts MANY help sessions that are life-savers, and is super available for questions. Also, she's gorgeous, and so cool.
Orgo certainly lives up to its reputation of being an insanely difficult class, but you couldn't find a better professor for it than Dr. Lashley. She's such a sweet, knowledgeable person, and you can really tell that she wants all of her students to succeed. She also grades tests unbelievably quickly. Pro tip: go to every single help session.
Dr. Lashley is the best professor I have had and probably will have in my college career. She gives amazing lectures and always explains things very well. She gives students all the tools the need to succeed. She grades super quickly and always gives good feedback.
Dr. Lashley's course is extremely difficult. She does a good job trying to help you learn all the material. She was very available to meet during office hours. Orgo II is really difficult so listen to all of her advice and you can succeed. You will need to dedicate a lot of time to learn the material.
Dr. Lashley is the best choice for Orgo II here. Regardless of what professor you take, this is a challenging course. Dr. Lashley gives good lectures (and posts them all online), and extra credit. She also holds review sessions for every quiz, test, and the final. Take this class with her
Professor Lashley was great for the easy topics in the beginning of the semester, but she is not good at explaining the more difficult topics and has no sense of organization. She takes off an exuberant number of points on tests for little mistakes and gets frustrated with you when you continuously don't understand topics (me all semester).
Professor Lashely is a wonderful human being and great person to talk to but has very few organizational skill and does not know how to break down hard topics to make them at all understandable. Unless you understand what she's talking about right away, you're confused until you move on to a new topic. Would not recommend for orgo 1, try for Walk.
Lashley has terrible time management skills, and she'll introduce material for a midterm the class before the midterm and isn't respectful of her students' time. She is very condescending during office hours and not very helpful during help sessions considering she gets confused on the material she's teaching.
Lashley is my QUEEN her lectures make the material very clear and understandable. she does move fast and you need to pay attention in lecture. she gives help sessions before every quiz or exam in which she basically reteaches you the material and gives very relevant examples
Definitely a polarizing person when it comes to students' opinions on her class, but I love her! Tells you on the first day of class that students have told her how they got an A in the class was by doing all the supplemental textbook questions. This seems like the case, since I am doing notably better in her class than my friends who don't.
Prof. Lashley is one of the best college professors I've had! She is so accessible outside of class and she is a great teacher. Organic chemistry is obviously hard material, but she helps students out SO MUCH by offering substantial extra credit and tons of outside-of-class review sessions. Orgo 2 is hard, but Lashley does her absolute best.
Professor Lashley is the BEST professor I've ever had. Orgo 2 is difficult, but she explains everything so clearly and gives amazing lectures. Her doors are always open, and her help sessions are super helpful. She is encouraging, caring and humorous. She tries her best to help you learn. Take ORGO2 with Lashley and really take her advice on ORGO2!
Lashley is probably the best professor I will have in college. Organic 2 is very difficult but she gives you all the tools you need for success, you just need to take them and run with them. Do all the practice problems and go to her office hours. She loves to see students improve and do well. Work for the knowledge and rewards will come to you.
Lots of HW, do all the practice you can. You get to drop one midterm (or all 4 quizzes), her lectures go FAST, so be prepared. Extra credit is solid (total up to like 50 pts, which is one quiz). Seriously though, practice practice practice. She has brown on reserve so don't get that textbook.
Great teacher, make orgo2 much easier than I expected. The material is not so hard but the amount of material is huge. She posts class notes to blackboard and gives review sessions before quiz and exams. Go to class and review sessions, and do practice problems on textbooks.
I really did not understand Orgo I, but Professor Lashley made Orgo II so much clearer and I really enjoyed the course. The course requires a lot of time to be dedicated to it, but overall was a fantastic class. Definitely need to do the non-graded homework to do well on the tests and quizzes.
Dr. Lashley is an amazing professor, and you can clearly see that she genuinely cares about each one of her students and their success. Orgo 2 is definitely a challenging subject, but if you are willing to put forth the effort, you will do well. Dr. Lashley definitely makes the subject more enjoyable with her jokes and memes. Great class.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. She really knows what struggles students and tells you how to do well. Do everything she tells you to do (do textbook problems, go to review sessions, review the course materials) and you'll get an A. She can seem scary at first but talk to her and ask her questions and she'll be there to help you.
Its hard to respect this class when the professor rolls in 10-15 min late every time. I don't like getting up at 8am either, but I do it.
Lashley is the best choice for Orgo 2 hands down, especially if you are pre-med, because she adds in a lot of cool medicinal chemistry tidbits. I actually found this class easier than Orgo 1 due to Lashley's clear and organized teaching style, which I've heard other Orgo 2 profs don't have. Take Lashley!
You MUST do all the practice from the textbook. There are so many extra problems you get during review sessions, and those are SO ACCURATE to what will be on the exam, so go to those. Lashley understands the anxiety and frustrations of ORGO students and is very reassuring. Good amt of extra credit offered, but not needed for A if you work VERY hard
Lashley is a fantastic choice for orgo2, she is very clear and organized in her lectures, and very communicative about what she expects and how she grades. It's a hard class by nature, but she is super accessible and holds study sessions at least once a week. Overall, a great professor, would highly recommend!
Lashley is an amazing professor! Orgo 2 is a very challenging course, but Lashley gives you all of the resources you need to succeed. Go to the help sessions and do ALL of the textbook problems. A good amount of extra credit is also offered. Take this class with Lashley!
Lashley is the best! She offers so much extra credit (up to 53 points) and allows you to drop one test or all of the quiz grades. Do the practice problems in the textbook and from review sessions to study for exams. Really not that difficult :)
I really enjoyed Orgo 2 with Prof. Lashley. Her lectures are pretty dense but she is very straightforward and tells you what to know and how to remember it all. She is generally available for students whenever and is willing to work with you so you feel confident about the material. Orgo 2 is a hard class but she makes it fun and manageable.
The tests were so difficult, but she does a decent job preparing you for it. Most of the studying is done by yourself. So do the hw she recommends and do the practice tests.
I got the sense that student inquiries about subject material or the course itself really annoyed her. If your question isn't super theoretical and interesting, don't bother asking her. Even then, it is a headache getting a response from her if you ask via email.
Class average at the end of semester was very inaccurate since a good chunk of the students dropped the class after the first exam, making the class average appear higher than normal, most likely why she never curved. I felt like I was cramming the entire semester and the accelerated semester did not help. DO NOT TAKE IT ONLINE, TAKE IN PERSON.
Made the class harder on purpose despite the pandemic. Doesnt really accommodate or help if she knows youre struggling. Most emails were kind of harsh towards students. Not genuine at all. Final was super hard and no curve. Didn't share the final so no way of telling if it's graded accurately. Pretty sure the class average was inaccurate.
I've heard so many good things about Dr. Lashley and I was excited to take Orgo with her. But, she made the class harder than necessary especially during the pandemic, reduced the number of bonus points, and was unaccommodating. She's still the best option for Orgo(she taught the material really well)just don't take it online.
Honestly made the class unnecessarily inconvenience especially with printing out exams and then re-scanning them. Do not take this class if it's online!
The final was crazy difficult.. i felt like i was blindsided lol i spent 4 hours on it and went home crying. I expected a curve that didn't happen. BUT! I did very well on the other tests and she was very accommodating throughout the semester. Lectures are so extremely clear! and her help sessions are so helpful. Also, gave a lot of e.c. questions
She made me love chem so much that now im a biochem minor. Orgo is super simple with the way she explains it, there's just loooots of practice problems, but that's the only way to learn the material. Extra credit on exams; FAIR exams (easy if you do the recommended book problems). Review sessions are a godsend, I learned so much in group activities
Very knowledgeable on the topic and provides thoroughly worked examples. Also very clear on what will and will not be tested. She made the exams very very challenging, but it's orgo2 so it's to be expected.
Dr. Lashley was good at explaining chemistry, but the class was terrible. She told our class that we started with 130 students, but ended with only 110 left. She joked about how hard the class was, but it wasn't funny when she was joking about her class making people give up on med school. After interacting with her i felt stupid and discouraged.
Look I hate chemistry. I'm a bio major and this class is part of the reason I'm no longer a premed. Lasheley, however, is the best prof I could ask for. The course material is super hard but she will do all that she can to help you understand it and give you LOTS of opportunities to make up points if your tests and quizzes aren't great. I love her
Lashley is a great professor and is always there to help. Her lectures are usually good, but sometimes she gets off topic and goes a bit slower than normal. Exams are fair but difficult, and theres a lot to learn in Orgo 2. Really use her study guides and old exams, and use Achieve/Sapling as a resource as well, not just homework.
Lashley is very nice and caring. I enjoyed her lectures. Exams were difficult but if you did the practice (Sapling, Klein, etc) you were fine. I was really happy w the class, until the final exam. It was unlike the exams throughout the semester and was out of nowhere, I felt that I knew nothing despite studying constantly. It ruined my experience.
Prof Lashley seems scary at first, but she honestly is super nice. She is amazing at teaching, but the class is def one of the hardest I've taken. Make sure to do practice problems and make summary sheets!!!
It's impossible to get the help you need. Her help sessions are useless because there is only her and the grad TA. She only hosts in-person office hours. Piazza questions never get answered clearly. She flies through the material in class, especially after Exam 2. Unfortunately I will have to take Orgo2 with her next semester.
I don't think anyone can teach orgo better than Dr. Lashley. She is, quite simply, one-of-a-kind. She teaches orgo as if it's second nature and in a way students understand. There aren't any tricky word problems on her exams, just stuff you've done in class. You just need to practice a lot.
The first three exams were okay, but the final (which was worth roughly 40% of the course grade) was not based off what she taught in class. She put questions on the final that she only went over in her help sessions the night before the final exam which is extremely unfair. I would not recommend taking her for organic chemistry.
Orgo is the most difficult class I have ever taken. But Dr. Lashley goes above and beyond to help her students. You MUST go to the help sessions and office hours, it makes all the difference!! Be prepared to work hard. She cares about her students and understands that the course is difficult, so she tries to support you however she can.
Lashley recognizes the hard work and dedication students put into such a rigorous course. She allows students to drop 1 of the 3 exams and provides some extra credit opportunities on exams as well as outside of the classroom. Lectures and notes were organized and well thought out which is especially valuable in a course with such a bad reputation.
AMAZING! She provides so many resources that the only reason not to get an A is not doing all the practice work. There are review sessions, extra problems, problem sets, practice exams, recorded lectures, understanding checks, and lets you drop your lowest midterm grade out of three. I try only to have chemistry classes with her from now on!
She wants u to pass. Hard class but she says up front what to do to succeed. Attendance graded, extra credit, review sessions, recorded lectures. Had a tough semester (disabled) and she met w me to figure out my best course of action. If u have accommodations to make up exams they have to be done basically the next day or she forcibly exempts it.
Lashley is excellent at explaining orgo in a way that makes sense. She recommends many resources/practice to help get a grip on the material in addition to lecture. Very exam heavy, but they were reasonable and somewhat predictable if you go to help sessions/do practice exams. She's very blunt, but understanding of how hard the material is.
Orgo requires memorization and only by working with the material frequently can you do well. Lashley understands this and provides many materials like question sets, textbook questions, extra credit, help sessions, and workbook chapters. Lectures are recorded, she takes attendance with a question, and the textbooks are found easily online.
Lashley is my all-time favorite chemistry professor at WM. I had her for both orgo 1 + 2 and absolutely love her teaching style. Students with questions/need help can attend review sessions and easily meet her outside of class. She is a one of a kind professor who provides students with tons of opportunities to succeed in such a rigorous class.
Lashley is a solid professor for orgo 2. It's going to be hard due to the nature of the class, but she explains things well and makes class interesting. The exams were on the hard side but weren't impossible. You'll have to put in a lot of time outside of class, but if you do, you'll do just fine.
Professor Lashley is AMAZING. Always wants us to succeed. Gave us so many different ways to do well (problem sets, review sessions, old tests/quizzes, office hours, study guides, clear notes). Makes orgo 2 so much easier than it would've been with another prof. By far the best prof I've ever had, I won't miss orgo 2 but I'll definitely miss her.
Labs are very unorganized and usually don't work properly for anyone. Midterm and Final are worth a ridiculous amount for a lab and quite difficult. It was quite irritating to go to lab 4 hours a week just for the grade to be determined by exams. She is quite a rude emailer as well so don't bother asking questions.
Most excellent professor I've ever had. Passionate, organized, and dedicated to the craft of teaching. I would rather sit on the floor of her class than have any other prof teach me Orgo. She integrates humor and "excursions" of adjacent material and walks us through the exam before starting the timer. If I could have her 100 times over, I would.
I really really enjoyed Prof Lashley's lectures. You really have to be zoned in the whole time because she will sometimes say something once and expect you to know it, but she does a wonderful job of walking students through every example and topic. She is also very responsive to in class questions, even in a huge lecture hall.
I like Orgo so I enjoyed putting the time into this class that it takes to do well. You will spend ALOT of time preparing for this class but if you do you will be graded accordingly. Lashley is helpful and her lectures are engaging. 3 Midterms and 4 quizzes. Final is hard but what you expect from orgo 2.
By far my favorite professor during all of my undergraduate career. Inspiring, some tough love, and an amazing teacher. I followed her guidance on how to study for this class, and it made me a better student all around. I took her for both Orgo 1&2 and have no regrets. Do your practice problems!
If you want to understand organic chemistry, take it with Professor Lashley. She has high expectations for the class, but goes above and beyond to help you understand as much as possible. She's clearly passionate about chemistry, and gives lots of helpful feedback. Go to her review sessions, use her study guides, and do the practice problems.
Prof. Lashley is wonderful! Organic chemistry has notorious reputation but I felt it was simplified as much as it could be. It made sense! Much of your grade is based on exams and it will require practice, practice, practice. Lashley professes this too. She is very available during office hours and I'd recommend asking all the questions you have.
Organic Chemistry is inherently a very dense and difficult class but she made learning the material structured and approachable. Gives you ample access to extra practice problems and expects you to put in the work outside of lecture to keep up with the fast pace. An effective lecturer who can get you through a notoriously difficult subject.
I have seriously felt like starting a Dr. Lashley fan club after taking her class. She is such a good lecturer, a caring person, and the most organized professor I've had at William and Mary. Orgo II is a difficult class but she will be there to support you and help you the entire way. I can't emphasize enough how amazing she is!!!
Professor Lashley puts more effort into teaching than any other professor I've had. Just a fair warning though, Orgo II is very different from Orgo I (even if you took Orgo I with Lashley) and in my experience was much more difficult. If you take this class, study consistently, do homework and practice problems ASAP, and go to office hours.
Lashley is an amazing professor, explains things very well and offers extra credit opportunities as well as the chance to completely drop one out of three exams.
The goat. She taught well gave all the resoures necessary and the exams were fair. Made orgo enjoyable
I envy you, Notre Dame. I was going to take her for Orgo 2. Goated professor, do all homework ungraded and graded and study the study guide she gives you, and you are guaranteed an A.
Alexa, play "I Will Remember You" by Sarah Mclachlan
I thought Prof Lashley was great. She was very clear about what she expected us to know for the exams. She provided study guides before our exams. She recorded all of her lectures. You will need to attend her class every day because she takes attendance with Aktiv Learning. If you are going to take Orgo I, I recommend taking it with Lashley!
