I hate this class. You have to turn in assignments at 6 on Saturday instead of late on on Sunday so I missed some and that messed me up. It's a lot of writing and too much notes. Prof. Livesay is nice. The discussions and the readings are ok. It's English.
Ms. Livesay is a great teacher, she gives great feedback and will work with you. She is a harsh grader but she does it to make you a stronger person. Encourages communication and is quick to respond. Phenomenal teacher!
She is very harsh with grading essays. I put a lot of effort into all of them, and she would skip right over the stuff I did right, and slam me for the stuff I did wrong, asking if I even read/watched the content. I felt like I was always guessing what she wanted on essays, and I always guessed wrong.
I just finished taking this English and it was the most interesting class I've ever had. The discussions use inspirational videos and stories and the assignments are easy if you follow directions. This was my second time taking English. It was a great class. I've never had a teacher so involved in an online class. A shout-out to Ms. Livesay!
This was my first online class and it was great. It's 12 weeks so it feels like a lot of work, but the teacher opens a few weeks oso you can move ahead. She gave us a practice final exam with the answers so we could grade it and learn where to improve; who does that? She gave great feeedback on the papers and will read it early to help you improve.
I liked the online class. We watched YouTube videos, read short stories and essays, and the textbook was included. Prof. Livesay will work with you on writing better essays and she gives extra credit. She let us suggest videos and stories so it wasn't boring. Great teacher and class; definitely recommend!
There was a lot of writing in this class and the teacher gave good feedback. I appreciated that she gave extra credit and a chance to do essays over. I would take any classes she was teaching.
Really enjoyed Professor Livesay's class. I'm definitely a better writer after taking it. She gives comments on the essays and discussions and makes the class interesting. There's extra credit.
Mrs. Livesay is an excellent teacher. She's very involved in the class and it odesn't feel like you're on your own. There were 3 essays, 3 writings, and interesting discussions. She will give feedback before the work is due. You just have to ask. I am taking her again for the technical writing class. This is an easy class if you follow directions.
Good class. She let us pick the readings. There is a lot of reading, but we got to partner up which made it easier. Took her for ENC 1101 and this class was just as interesting. Great teacher. Easy class if you read everything and go through the modules and not the calendar.
Ms. Livesay is a great professor! We have some essays but you can get as creative as you want with them and she's always available for help if you ask. Not a hard class if you keep up with due dates.
This is my second time taking Technical Writing at HCC. I'm really glad I'm taking it online with Professor Livesay. So far it's a great class. The professor wants us to succeed and she lets us resubmit assignments. I like the video lectures. She answers email quick and stays involved in the discussion. I'll check back at the end of the term.
She is tough you have to do the work and pay attention to detail she is very good with feedback and she encourages you to do better.
Professor Livesay gives extra credit and the class was open a month in advance so I worked ahead. Didn't have to buy a book which saved money (!) and instead of an argument essay, we could do a presentation or powerpoint. The instructor made it a great class and I'd take her class again.
Just finished the Technical Writing class and it was amazing. The assignments were difficult at first because it's a different way of writing, but I gained a lot of great experience in resume writing, progress reports, and instructions. The best part of the class was creating an online e-portfolio. There's no final exam. Professor Livesay is great!
The class was open a month early so you could work ahead. Always responses to emails very quickly, always there when you need help. Gives greats feedbacks. A lot of extra credit opportunities.
I just started in her technical writing class and it's great. She has the first five weeks open so we can work ahead. She's answered my emails the same day and spent almost 45 minutes helping me over the phone after hours. You can call her on Saturdays too. So far it's interesting. I'll check back after the semester.
I took the 12-week class which is a lot of work, but Ms. Livesay let us revise an essay for a better gade. It's online so you really have to manage your time and not procrastinate which is my problem. There's a lot of extra credit but it's hidden in the readings so read everything. No midterm and we had a practice final. I'd take her class again.
This is a mid-way review of ENC 20210 because class isn't over until May. Ms. Livesay really wants us to learn. She lets us revise and resubmit papers for higher grades. She just announced she was reopening all quizzes for another attempt. I've never had a teacher do that. Still have a LinkedIn page, E-portfolio. Will get back to update when done.
So far, ENC 1101 has been a good class. There is a lot of writing, but Professor Livesay let us rewrite our lowest grade essay and she reopened the quizzes so we can do them again. But if you don't follow directions, you're screwed. But she always replies fast, feedback helps, and her videos and discussions are great! I'd take any class with her.
Been out of school for 10 years and was nervous about taking this online and Im glad I did. We didn't have to buy a book cause she puts it online. Mrs. Livesay is good. If you want to pass you gotta ask fro help, read directions and use the online tutoring. She won't take late work but she really cares how you do. Im gonna take her next class.
I can not say enough good things about Ms. Livesay. She was very rich in giving constructive feedback and making me feel like my work mattered, and that I was doing good. She eases the mind when you are stressing over assignments. She is one of the professors who make you feel like she genuinely wants too see you succeed. Offers extra credit.
I wrote a review halfway through and this is the rollup. Just finished Technical Writing and it was the best class I've taken. We made. LinkedIn page and an online portfolio; both will be very useful in my professional career. The quizzes were tough but open-book. Resume and cover letter were very useful projects. Ms. Livesay is great. Great class!
Took the 12-week class and am glad I did. The projects were useful. Professor Livesay gives examples of exactly how things would be written so just follow the guidelines. She responds to emails same day even on Saturday. She let us makeup one project. There's no midterm or final exam. My writing has gotten better. Would take her again. Great prof!
Make sure to READ EVERYTHING! She will give random extra credit for the smallest things. Overall, she is a good professor, but you will have to work to get an A. Be prepared to work; there is a lot of assignments, but she gives plenty of time to finish it all. She is really good about grading too; she gives a lot of feedback. Highly Recommend!
Best writing class I've taken. Needed it cause it's a health science degree requirement and I'm glad I took this class. Good teacher. She answers emails quick. The Lnkedin and online portfolio projects were fun. I learned how to improve my resume which was huge. Good class.
I'm in the 8-week class, so it's a lot of work. But, the instructions are clear and Miss Livesay answers emails usually the same day if there are questions. It's a good class and she gives a lot of feedback. Seems like a tough grader, but I'm learning alot. Need it for UF so was glad to find this class. Good teacher.
READ EVERYTHING. Extra credit is hidden thorough out the class material. Hard to fail this class unless you just don't do the work. She gives great feedback and is respectable of her students. she is really here for her students and wants you to pass.
Professor Livesay is one of my favorite online professors because she give good feedback that really helps you improve and learn the material. It seems to be one of the more useful classes I've taken. She cares about the class and asks for feedback herself. If you keep up with the deadlines it the class isn't too bad.
I had to retake English and after reading the reviews, took Professor Livesay's class. It's an easy class if you read and follow directions. She emails back quick. I never felt like I was on my own in the online class. Would recommend and take her next class.
I signed up for this class bcuz of the amazing ratings for this prof. Do not take Dana Livesay. Her assignments are not clear and she is condescending. She says she wants her students to call and email her but when you do, she is passive-aggressive and impatient. She calls students' essays terrible and is a really tough grader. Not an easy A!
Not sure how the rating is so high for this teacher. The only good part about her class is the extra credit. Shes very rude to her students. She sends video announcements of herself practically mocking all the students work if it is done incorrectly (or even just needed a minor change). She gives a lot of work that is very unclear. STAY AWAY!!
Do not be fooled by the amazing ratings about this professor. It is not an easy class and you will always be afraid of what your grade will turn out to be. At least for her online class, assignments are unclear. She is a very harsh grader for essays and does not show mercy for mistakes.
The good part about this class is the extra credit at the beginning and how livesay responds to your questions within 24 hrs and grades quickly. But, when you ask a simple question, she talks to you like youre dumb. I personally disliked taking this class. Its only comp 1, yet I had to work extra hard for this professor. Dont take this class!
This professor is unclear with instruction and when you go to ask for help she doesn't help you instead she is rude and disrespectful. I always submit my assignments early and it takes her a while to grade them. She takes off points for little things. I recommend not taking her if you can't handle a lot of work and if English isn't your subject.
If you're looking for an easy comp 1 class, keep looking. This professor is extremely tough and critical when it comes to grading essays.
Shes rude, condescending, makes videos talking about students, insulting them and demeaning them, and she knit-picks on assignments. She is incredibly discouraging. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I don't understand the meanness. If you look at Professor Livesay's ratings, you see she's been great for years. I think there's a student who can't pass and take it out on her. It's a great class with extra credit and more chances to do better than in other classes. Yes, it's alot of work, but it's 12 weeks. Read the real reviews. Will take again
Mrs. Livesay let us know that someone slammed her on here, so I want to tell you it's crap. I plan to take her 1102 and 1101 is a great class. She can't do more to help. Open book quizzes, can rewrite a paper and extra credit. She posts videos and lectures. Whoever did those reviews can't do the work -how is that her fault. If you fail it's on you
Ms. Livesay, Is always there for you, if you are willing to try. Gives extra credit too.
I am quite pleased with the outcome of this class. Ms. Livesay has always been fair and helpful. Anyone that rated her poorly is just upset that they were too lazy to do the work and received a poor grade.
Professor Dana Livesay is a great professor, and I decided to take her class based off of the good reviews on this site. She is available more times than not for questions on assignments. She goes above and beyond for her students and she cares. If she didn't, she wouldn't post so many videos and make herself available. Do the work, and you'll pass
Professor Livesay is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is extremely knowledgable and truly cares about her students. Her feedback is phenomenal and if you do the work, you should not have a problem with passing the class. She makes it so it very easy to contact her if you have any questions. I would recommend her over and over again.
I'm in 1101 now and it's a;most over. This is the most engaging online course I've ever taken. In my others, I never saw my instructor and they took forever to answer emails. It doesn't feel like a "distance" class. Mrs. Livesay is a truly caring teacher which is hard to find. Next week she's opening quizzes for a second try. signed up for 1102.
As a healthcare industry professional it has been more than a pleasure taking your course. Your straight to the point technique has made my experience worthwhile. If I needed Enc 1102 and you were the instructor I would take that course also. Thanks for being the detailed oriented, and engaged professor that you are!
She does all of her announcements on canvas through videos. Not only is it time consuming to sit and watch her speak, it is really difficult to reference assignment instructions when you have to search through a 5 minute video for the information you're looking for. She is logical about grading, but the work load is heavy each week.
Some of the assignments she gives seem trivial. They are so elementary that it feels like a waste of time, and I definitely would not say this class is mentally engaging. Even on these types of assignments she is a very tough grader and finds even the smallest mistakes. It would be easier to do well on these if she gave better instructions.
Mrs. Livesay is great. She opened quizzes for another try and let us write over our bad essay. The essays are tough, she makes a lot of comments to help. Do other teachers who do that? Some work is basic grammar which I guess she has to teach. She ansswered my emails and calls within 24 hours. The 12 week class keeps you busy. It is engaging. Take!
I suck at English and had to take it two other times. Prof Livesay was recommended, and she is a great teacher. The bad reviews are fake and someone in our class got a bug up their butt. Good feedback and instructions, feels like a real class, and motivational videos make it interesting. Easy to pass if follow directions and ask for help!!!
This prof is out of touch. Her homework seems basic but she finds ways to take off points. She comes off really disrespectful from her comments and gives many assignments per week. Also super knit-picky when grading papers. It's not about the writing to her its about if you copied her model exactly, which is irritatingly difficult.
Ms. Livesay gives many opportunities for extra credit. Do all of them! They will help you a lot. There was only three papers and had easy topics. I got a high A on all of them. Get ready to study for a lot of quizzes.
I loved this class Ms. Livesay truly cares about teaching. She gave me great feedback to help me improve my writing skills and the opportunity to fix past mistakes. Ms. Livesay's methods support true learning.
Ms. Livesay has been by far the best online teacher Ive ever had. Being completely online teaching hundreds of students is extremely difficult! But she does an amazing job at everything. Extremely responsive and helpful. I highly suggest you take her for ENC 1101!
The complainers must have failed. The tech writing is a basic class; it's supposed to be at a CC. Want harder, go to UF and take higher level. We follow exact templates to learn how to do them right. Yes, she takes off points, but this is professional writing so it has to be right. Mrs. Livesay is a great teacher; she called me back on Saturday.
Just started the 8 week class. It's a lot of work, but clearly explained. Prof. is helpful and responsive. Work is open four-weeks in advance which works with my schedule. So far, it's a good class and she responds quick and gives extra credit. I'll check back after the class ends in March.
Best class and prof. It was 12-weeks but not too much work that not manageable. My favorite assignment was the e-portfolio in Wix. It was great to make a website where I could keep adding my projects and use it down the road. The resume is boring, because it was a basic format. Definitely recommend! I am better prepared for harder tech classes.
I really enjoyed taking this class. I gained valuable business writing experience for my future career. The grading is hard but fair, as long as you follow instructions you will get a good grade. The workload was amazing I had plenty of time to complete all assignments.
I took her class online and the first thing she required is a video introduction to promote sense of community. If thats not for you Id say steer clear.
She's honestly one of the best professors I've had. That doesn't mean she is *easy* and you have no work, but the work is manageable if you stay on track! Her assignments are straightforward and everything is explained perfectly. This class has improved my writing skills honestly.
The class went by super quick, and it was easier then I thought it would be. I would definitely recommend it.
I felt that communication was really good. I didn't feel like I was alone while taking this class. I felt that every assignment there was good understanding in the instructions and felt that I could contact Prof Livesay from the jump.
This was a stressful eight weeks for me. A lot of unexpected hurdles came up but thanks to our understanding professor, I was able to make it through. I felt Ms. Livesay was present and available whenever I needed to contact her. The discussions were interesting and thought-provoking. Would recommend.
It was a good class. I don't think this course was too easy or too hard. Because I am also a high school student, there were times when the assignments for this class were procrastinated in order to prioritize my high school work but it was nothing too bad. I am very proud because I have learned so much about the technical side of writing.
I have to give a shout-out to Professor Livesay. She always gave great feedback on my assignments and always gave me ideas on how to improve my work. The advice I would give to someone taking this class is to do all of the work in the modules and make sure you do ALL the EXTRA CREDIT. Even if you have a good grade.
Technical Writing was more fun than I thought it would be. We made an ePortfolio and LinkedIn page which will hep me at college. I would like to thank Professor Livesay because without her wise words on my pieces I would not have known if my piece was well worded. Also, her guidance has allowed me to truly understand what I am writing.
Ms. Livesay was a great teacher! She truly showed that she cared about us and it was a great online classroom environment. I liked the motivational videos and how she gave "kudos" to us when we did something well. I would take her classes again.
I was really struggling with one assignment and the instructor was very helpful. I sent her probably 5 emails about this one assignment and she answered all my questions quickly. I appreciated her being so responsive! I haven't had that in an online class. Ms. Livesay really cares that we do well. She also gives extra chances on quizzes. Recommend!
The class just ended for a final discussion she asks for our feedback to make it better for improvements and to rate her. I wouldn't think a teacher would want that since we could write something negative. BUT I only have good things to say about Tech Writing and her as a teacher. Ask for help, follow instructions. Will take her SLS1106 in spring.
We got extra credit for reviewing the course. She really wants to make it better nad I feel she values her student's opinions. I personally believe the class was a little too difficult, although to me it seemed more due to the online format than anything else cause I never took and online class before. It was never boring, though.
Prof. Livesay asked for feedback but I honestly dont have any; I feel like the class was great. There was always adequate time to do the assignments and the instructions were clear. The resume was the hardest assignment; the Eportfolio was the most interesting. She says turn in anything because any grade is better than a zero! Great teacher
One of my best courses. I enjoyed it all thoroughly and found it very useful and inspiring. I believe this class had a good level of communication for an online course. I have experienced two extremes in communication in previous online courses and found this one to be a good middle ground. I will take her SLS class too.
By far my favorite assignment was the E-Portfolio. I enjoyed getting to explore my goals and career aspirations in depth. My least favorite assignment was the resume. The course helped me fine-tune my educational goals and improve my writing which is too wordy. It was a helpful class and Ms. Livesay is a very good and helpful teacher.
Coming into the class I wasnt sure what to expect but I really enjoyed this class. I believe the exercises and different types of assignments improved my writing. I really enjoyed how Prof. Livesay included her videos with the assignment. It helped to have her explain the assignments and have the instructions to view as well. .
The instructor was really communicative and helpful. I honestly would like to thank her because she made it very easy to communicate with her when I was having trouble with assignments. Do all the assignments and contact her if you don't understand something. It's not a hard class if you pay attention and do work early.
Professor Livesay was a great instructor and I'll take her for 1102. I honestly would like to thank her because she made it very easy to communicate with her when I was having trouble with assignments which was my fault because I procrastinated. She doesn't take late work so be sure to get assignments in on time. Her class is worth taking.
Dana Livesay is an incredible instructor. I was able to contact her at any time and received a response fast. She offered help all assignments, provided ample extra credit opportunities and was very organized and thoughtful regarding the assignments. If you do poorly it is of your own doing. Put forth your best effort and you are sure to earn an A
I took Professor Livesay for ENC 1101 so I know I had a great teacher. She gave us the book in 1101 and if you couldn't afford it in 1102 she put the stories and poems from the book in the class. We could rewrite our worse paper - BUT if you don't follow directions on how to do it you don't get credit. She gave a lot of feedback on papers.
I don't like English, but I will say that Ms. Livesay it is an excellent teacher, she communicate with her students, and help them through out the whole course. English is not my first language so she gave extra help to me to for understand. I will take other English class with her next year online.
Professor Livesay is a great teacher ! She provides us with everything we need to succeed in this class. If you need help she will get back to you fast and you can call her and go over your essays. I will take all the classes she teaches.
This was my second time taking SLS. It's got a lot of readings in it, but Prof. Livesay pointed out which ones we needed to prioritize for the assignments. It was a 10-week class so knowing what was optional helped. SLS classes are all the same, but she offers extra credit and brought in guest speakers. It was a useful class and good teacher.
Ms. Livesay has been a good instructor. She has encouraged me not to quit and that I am able to do the work. I like that she has time availability for individual students. Thanks for the great semester. I wish I could take comp 2 with you, but your class is full!
Before I began this course, I was nervous about how it would be and if it would be too much for me. When I started, I was welcomed by Ms. Livesay and her kind, encouraging words. Her weekly videos always brought a smile to my face and reassurance of what I was doing in the class was right. With grading, there is always amazing feedback. Excellent!
Although this is an eight-week course, I have learned so much in the short amount of time. Without the help of Ms. Livesay, this class and the experience would surely not be the same. I will definitely be recommending Ms. Livesay to everyone who asks me!
Ms. Livesay, I wish all of my instructors were like you! I enjoyed the freedom of expression and opinion that we were able to share in discussion posts and writing assignments. I love the extra credit opportunities! Plus, you kept up with us on a weekly basis. :-) Thank you for all you do! I definitely recommend her class!
It was a good class and I will take her comp 2 class. She uploads videos so it is not just text-based communication. I appreciate that because it lets us get to know our instructor and bridges the gap between on-campus schooling and online schooling. There is also a virtual "student lounge" where we could communicate with peers.
This class was very challenging. I am more of a in person learner, but this was a great experience. She's a very good teacher who cares for those who are willing to learn and push themselves.
Out of all my online courses I've taken in my community college career (about six) Mrs. Livesay has developed the most effective way to give feedback on assignments. My writing has improved drastically from her style of teaching. I would highly recommend her class and honestly think she should run a seminar to other online professors.
Technical Writing was a nice change from regular English Comp. The assignments were interesting were spread out over the term. I have had teachers give me points off with no explanations why which is not effective and there is no way to grow from that. Miss Livesay does the opposite while grading on time. I learned a lot about professional writing.
She's an excellent teacher, very understanding. I took her online and she gave us the online textbook free. There were several resources included so we didn't have to buy anything. She's an easy grader, but more so - fair. She wants to compare what we learned from start to finish so we get to retake quizzes. The projects and videos make it good.
Just finished taking the 10-week online class. It looked like a lot of work, but we got to spread it out, do peer reviews, and revise, and edit projects. The ePortfolio was very useful and making a Linkedin page help with the resume. Miss Livesay is a great teacher. It's clear she cares students doing well. Would take again.
This class is literature and poems, but not boring ones. She used Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan poetry and the stories we read were more recent and diverse. I took 1102 before and it was dull, but Prof. Livesay was recommended. I'm glad I took this class. I'll probably take her Technical writing class; the reviews are good. Shes a great teacher.
I thought it was a hard class in 8 weeks. There's a lot of writing because of gordon rule but the topics were good. Professor Livesay is fair and quick to call or email back. When I was mia, she emailed to see if I was ok. She wont take late work so don't ask, but her class is good. Taking 1102 if she teaches it.
We had to do a intro video and the syllabus had extra credit. We could improve our worst essay for a better grade. She takes off points for using "i" (like texting) instead of "I." I took 5 FLVS classes and 2 online at HCC, and I feel like this one was the best class because Ms. Livesay was ready to help and responded in a timely manner.
Took Prof Livesay for 1101 and 1102. She's fair and works with you if you need help. There's basic grammar, three essays, quizzes, and final exam. She gives a practice final that's like the real one. Literature isn't my strong point but the class was good. It's not easy an A but anyone who fails is just lazy.
I just started ENC 1101 and found two extra credit options. She says she offers it to see who reads the Syllabus and orientation modules where it is and start the course on positive note. Prof. Livesay also did a video intro instead of just having us do it. She seems interested in giving us a good online class. Will report back when its done.
Professor Livesay' ENC 2210 was a great class. I needed the transfer credits for UF degree and was recommended to take it with her. The assignments helped my writing a lot. The resume was hard but there's a template. No midterm or final exam, and tEportfolio and LinkedIn pages let us be creative and get website experience. I would take her classes.
I enjoyed the class because it was project-based with no final exam. The resume assignment uses a template which is boring but the assignments have real-word application. Mrs. Livesay was recommend and she is a great teacher. I'm transferring this back to USF
Diana Livesay is an excellent professor and human being. She has encouraged us all time to improve our grammatical and writing skills. I have felt her support every time. She is an exigent professor but is very worried for her students. She has lost a lot of her time explaining each ability and assignment. I would want to be her student again.
Professor Livesay is great. She gives good feedback and is avaliable during the week for help if needed. The material is not hard as long as you keep up with everything.
Dana Livesay is a great teacher and I wish during the pandemic our class could have met in person but online was the next best thing. I took this class as a pre- req for my bachelors degree and I am so thankful I took it . I learned so much about writing and professor Livesay made it fun with the creative assignments and great feedback.
Really good. I've never received as much feedback from a teacher or recognition for a job well done. It was refreshing which made me enjoy this class for sure. I was happy to do assignments and didn't dread doing them. The interaction and communication with the professor and students felt a lot more present then any other online course I've taken.
I loved the class. I think it was the perfect level of difficulty and the right amount of work. I was allowed to work at my own pace as long as I finished everything in time, and I think every assignment was beneficial. It was honestly one of the most well-organized and informative classes I have taken at HCC.
Class ended today and Prof. Livesay asked us to review it, good or bad. She was very helpful and communication was spectacular for an online course. I didn't feel alienated or alone throughout it. Prof. Livesay was very communicative with corrections and her desire for us all to succeed. Projects (e portfolio/LinkedIn) were fun and beneficial.
I've taken a lot of boring online courses, but Professor Livesay definitely made a difference. She wanted us to succeed and gave us chances to redo work for a better grade. She was very helpful and gave enough feedback. There was a lot of hard work, but I'm proud of my resume and know how to write a professional memo. I recommend the class.
The class was 8 weeks. The class was clear on due dates, well-organized, and offered significant input. There was variety of projects and Prof. Livesay asked for our suggestions on what we wanted to learn. I do not think there is anything to improve. I am going to take her ENC 1102 in the summer and review that one too.
This is my first review since Professor Livesay asked us to rate the class. She offered the most guidance and input of any instructor I've had at HCC, and she was available weekends. I was able to improve immensely because of that. The discussions and portfolio were my favorite, but the resume was hard for me. But I learned to write better.
Overall, I really enjoyed this class. The work was just challenging enough to keep me engaged and I learned a lot of important skills that will be helpful as I enter the workforce and college world. Out of all of the online courses that I have taken, this was one of my favorites.
I took this for my degree at USF. I liked this class. It was very informative and valuable. I just wish I would've had the chance to take this class sooner. This class was not hard but it was not necessarily easy; it requires a good amount of critical thinking and is very nice for students who are excited to move on to their professional careers.
This class was excellent! Professor Livesay gave me fantastic feedback that will be highly beneficial for future use. She made sure to answer every email at a reasonable time and made it so that every student's work mattered. I would recommend her to anyone. I was dreading this class, but I would take it again if I could!
I loved the way she constantly communicated with us. She also gave some students extra recognition when they were excelling and putting forth extra effort in the class which I thought was very nice encouragement. Professor Livesay was a great professor and really wanted us as a class to take the information given to us and apply it in our lives.
Great instructor. It was greatly appreciated the advice which Ms. Livesay gave at the very beginning on how to "attack" each module by first going to the assignments and completing them. This helped to plan my week and gave me ample time to complete assignments and required readings.
Encouragement from Ms. Livesay has enabled me to have confidence in my ability to finish this course and continue my education. I am going to take her ENC classes.
Good course to help learn about the college resources. Very helpful instructor who explained everything with wonderful details.
Ms. Livesay is AMAZING! She truly cares and wants you to do good. Flexible about due dates if you communicate with her, and has a lot of extra credit opportunities. Overall an easy course, and she makes it productive!
Took this to transfer into UF, and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the teacher, the feedback provided, and overall usefulness of the classwork.
There was plenty of interaction with peers and with the professor. The professor makes it very easy to communicate and has an amazing response time. My overview of the class is easy as long as you get the work done and turn it in on time. Being ahead of the game is the best thing to do in the class and getting assignments done ahead of time.
My overall view of this class was it was "just right" for me. I felt that we had plenty of time to get ahead and work on assignments. I do not think this class was boring, the assignments were interactive and some were even fun! I did not feel alone in this class. Prof. Livesay did a great job communicating, and peer-reviews were helpful.
I want to give a shout out to Professor Livesay for a job well done from the get-go and for being there every step of the way with excellent communication. The class was very well organized, definitely a challenge, and you had to be on top of your game. It was a helpful, good class.
The 8 wk class just ended and I truly enjoyed it! I felt the workload was a fair amount, but it felt lighter since all the assignments were relevant and teach us a valuable lesson. The communication has been far more interactive than any other course I have taken! Ms. Livesay is easy to reach and communicated with us a lot in my opinion.
I enjoyed this class, and it was challenging in a really good way. I think that this helps students to know how to write certain pieces well. If instructions were more lenient, I doubt I would have grasped the information better. These assignments force the student to put more effort, and I believe that is amazing accomplishment by Prof. Livesay.
This is hands down the best online course Ive taken for interaction and communication. Professor Livesay was on point with keeping us updated and the peer feedback was actually useful. I would definitely take Professor Livesay again.
Excellent class. There was plenty of interaction with the discussions. The professor responded promptly and helped tremendously with the several reviews of projects before the final deadlines as well as personalized video responses and annotations to documents.
I have taken several online classes including other writing classes and this class had more interaction than all of them combined. Everything in the course was laid out and I think it had great structure. I recommend this class and professor.
Technical Writing was an excellent class. I need it for university transfer and this one met my expectations. The assignments were relevant and the professor was very helpful. Her communication is great. I strongly recommend taking her class.
My overall view of the class-I would not want to be with any other class or professor. Frankly, some of the assignments were boring but none of them were easy." I loved it and will recommend it to others.
The class was perfect. We had enough work to comprehend the literature and to review our knowledge from English 1101. I never felt alone in this class. I took 1101 with Ms. Livesay, and she thoroughly communicated with us, as well as presented feedback. For this reason, I decided to take English 1102 with her. She is an astonishing professor.
I recommend this class. A friend told me about Ms. Livesay; he liked it so I signed up. Glad I did. The course is pretty flawless and easy to understand.
This was a 16-week course condensed into 6 weeks so I did find the coursework a bit more challenging to manage with a lot of writing. That said, it was a great class and I am taking Professor Livesay's ENC 2210 course next term.
ENC 2210 was a really good class. My overall view is that it was pretty smooth for it to be crammed all into six weeks. With Professor Livesay making the assignments accessible early I was able to be very proactive and not procrastinate as much. All the work, especially the resume was very beneficial for the real world.
I have to give a shoutout to Ms. Livesay. It was a good class. Her feedback was always to the point and told me exactly what to fix on my assignments. There was a lot of interaction with my classmates as well as Professor Livesay, I felt I could always ask for help. I would recommend this class.
I loved this class and think it is one of the best online classes I have taken. I have always loved writing until college when my professors made me feel inadequate. With Professor Livesay's positive feedback, I have regained confidence in my writing. Being called out for doing well in my work made me especially grateful for Professor Livesay.
Overall, I had a positive experience with this class. It was a lot of reading and short papers to write, but no big research essay. I really appreciate that Prof. Livesay provided us with extra credit opportunities because most other professors do not. There was good interaction and communication, and I would take more classes with Prof. Livesay.
My overall view of this class was helpful, and I enjoyed it. I believe I am a stronger reader and writer because of it. Readings were a balance of light and intense stories. There was plenty of consistent communication from the professor. The announcements were precise and clear. The video introductions made the environment feel very interactive.
I appreciated that we didn't have to buy a book and the materials were included. The class was very helpful in that everything learned, especially the resume, will be eventually used in my future. Professor Livesay was a great instructor and very reliable and helpful when asked any questions. She was a great help throughout the course.
Always gave great feedback. Assignments were "not average" and were a nice break from the normal workload. Assignments were spread out and it never felt like you had too many things on your plate.
I thought this class had a great balance between learning literature as well as critical thinking. It was just the right amount of work while still challenging but not overwhelmed. Prof. Livesay is a great help - do not hesitate to reach out to Professor Livesay about any questions or concerns!
My overall view of the class was that it was pretty easy, as long as you keep up with the due dates it is not hard material to grasp. There was enough online communication in this class and I never felt alone. It was a good class. I felt like I could always turn to my peers or my professor if I need help. The accountability group was very helpful.
My overall thought about the class is that it was interesting. I would take Prof. Livesay again. I enjoyed the poems and watching the "slam" poetry videos. The advice I could give ay future student would be to make sure you understand what youre reading. and ask for help if you need it. Prof. Livesay was always available to help.
This was a six-week class so it was fast and a lot of writing. But, it was cool for an online class, and I will take Prof. Livesay's next online class.
This was my 2nd attempt and a good class. I wrote papers that got A's and never thought I could do that. Writing is not my favorite or strongest subject, but I believe this increase is due to excellent feedback from the professor and using Smarthinking. Communication and interaction were good. Take the six-week class; there's less work.
This class exceeded my expectations and made me enjoy English again. From the first week, I knew that it would be a class that would definitely sharpen my knowledge of literature. The interaction was good and feedback and explanations from Ms. Livesay made the class a much better experience. Stay on top of work and you'll really enjoy this class.
I really enjoyed ENC 2210 especially the ePortfolio! There was plenty of interaction and communication. There was never a time when I felt that there could have been more. The resume was hard and could have been a more creative assignment, but it was needed and helped me improve my current resume. It was a great class, and I recommend it.
This class was better than I expected, well organized, and engaging. It was easy to follow and expectations were very clear. There was good interaction and communication. Professor Livesay was very helpful in providing feedback, which was also given very fast! You'll be surprised how good and useful this class is. I'd take any of her classes.
This course is clear, interesting, easy to follow along, and one I enjoyed. We covered resumes, cover letters, ePortfolio, email, progress report, LinkedIn, and had good discussions. Ms. Livesay was always there for feedback and any help. I was able to make improvements from her advice. I'm transferring this to UF and am glad I took it here!
This class was not overwhelming, was straightforward, had no midterm or final, and instructions were clear for each assignment. I liked that there was always a video from Professor Livesay for every module; she was great. Even though it looks like a lot of work, the work straight forward, and Prof. Livesay was always helpful. You'll enjoy it.
My overall view of this class is that it is pretty close to perfect. Ms. Livesay is honestly one of the best instructors I have had for an online class. A few times I made a misstep and she helped me out or pointed me to the syllabus. She let us retake quizzes to see what we learned from the start of the class. I strongly recommend her class.
This class was great and very helpful in putting together important documents we're going to need in our professional lives. If I did not take this class I would not have known how to put together a Resume, Cover Letter, and E-Portfolio. Shout out is definitely for Professor Livesay; she did amazing with communicating and gave great feedback.
Prof. Livesay gives a lot of extra credit. It's clear she wants to give us every chance to do well. This 8-week class is tough, but she's available and has been really helpful. She gives shout-outs to students who does well. I've never had a class with better communication. I'm taking her for 1102 and 2210 since it's a prereq at FSU.
I'm a UF student taking the class now. We're doing ePortfolios/LinkedIn - definitely enjoyable. Mrs. Livesay's nice, very "present" in the class, gives good feedback and lets us revise assignments until the due date. Assignments/topics/discussions are relevant (resume, memo, email, reports, etc.). I recommend the class and instructor.
I took ENC 1101 with Prof. Livesay so I knew this would be a good class. It's 8-weeks and fast but it's organized and easy to follow. It's the same ole literature, but she's including slam poetry and letting us write about a story we like. She wants us to succeed and has video face2face meetings. You'd have to basically not show up to fail.
Taking this for transfer back to UF. Mrs. Livesay is the best online teacher I've probably had at both schools. She lets rewrite papers until the due date and retakes quizzes. The 8-week class is writing short papers instead of big essays which broke it up easier. I never felt alone in the course with all the interaction.
Professor Livesay was extremely caring and always gave helpful feedback. I highly recommend taking her ENC2210 class.
Bad bad
Prof. Livesay is the best online teacher. I really liked the Accountability Group so we didn't feel alone in the class. It's a good class. It seems like a lot of work because it's 8 weeks, but once I got into it, it was good. I recommend taking this class.
Someone from my class gave her a 1 star. Don't believe it. We know who that was; we turned in him for cheating in our group. I thought the class was good, not too hard or too easy. The instructor was always available to meet. She posted lots of announcements and the group texts/get-togethers were really helpful. I would take her other classes.
Professor Livesay cares about her students and is willing to help you with anything you need. The classwork is mostly a mix of grammar assignments and relatively short essays. Everything is open-book and she provides lots of examples. It is a very manageable weekly workload. I highly recommend her!
Professor Livesay is great. She cares about her students' success. She is helpful and considerate. I am grateful that I had her as my instructor, I only wish I could have her for my entire college career. Thank you professor for your hard work.
I took Prof. Livesay for both ENC1101 and ENC1102 and she's hands down my favorite professor I've had! Papers are easy, as she gives you specific outlines to use (which I now use for every paper I write), topics are relatable and she's one of these Professors that cares and wants to see you succeed.
It was a fine class. I enjoyed my time in it and interacting with my fellow students. At times I found the reading rather dry but that goes with the territory at least for me with such a technical class. Being dry does not mean I did not find the readings not useful. I learned how to properly write an email, memo, and other documents. Good class.
I enjoyed the class. I did not have a great understanding of "technical writing" prior to taking this class. I thought the class was fairly well regulated as not being too hard or too easy. The ePortfolio and the blog post were very good ideas and memo, resume, cover letter assignments were worthwhile. I would take any of her classes.
Ms. Livesay is a great instructor. I think the class was well balanced, some assignments were difficult, and others were very easy. This class was one of the most interactive classes I've had when it comes to other students. I appreciated that she had assignments open two weeks at a time; that helped me better manage my time.
This class had the best communication and interaction of any online class I've taken. I never felt on my own, especially, since we had to be in groups. The feedback was really helpful and Prof. Livesay answered emails and sent reminders which I appreciated. She also had virtual meetings even on the weekend which worked for my schedule.
I appreciated that I didn't have to buy books! Interaction was great - the groups, virtual student lounge, and "ask your instructor" sections were helpful. I liked connecting with other students on LinkedIn. The class was business documents and an online ePortfolio which let me be creative. I took this at USF and dropped it. Glad I re-took it here!
The professor was always there and giving examples, which helped make sure we did the documents right. I like that there were no tests. We worked on projects and she let us revise the hard ones. There was extra credit, too. It was hard, but not too hard, especially for 8 weeks. I'm taking her SLS class next semester.
Professor Livesay is very communicative when it comes to due dates and how assignments are supposed to look. She held virtual meetings and I was able to call her on Saturday. The course was one of the best I took here. If you're on the fence, take this course with Professor Livesay. She makes it a good class.
Overall, I really liked this class. I didnt find it hard or too easy, but somewhere in the middle. I thought some aspects boring, but others quite the opposite. One thing I could say I enjoyed was that I was able to research to fully grasp what was going on in the stories. I have not felt alone in this class like I did in my previous semesters.
I think this class was a perfect pace. It didn't have a crazy amount of work and we went over some classic short stories and poems that I love! It felt like a lot of work but it was very manageable. No final exam made it even better.
Prof. Livesay was the nicest teacher I've had at HCC. Tech writing was a good basic class and I was glad to learn to write a proper memo and resume which will always be useful. The LinkedIn page and online portfolio allowed me to present myself online professionally and with creativity. I enjoyed the class and would take hers again.
This was a good class. Mrs. Livesay made it a good class. She opened assignments early and her suggestions for improvements were beneficial. The accountability group helped me meet peers. It's not easy in 8 weeks, but it's not hard. I really learned to manage time. The resources were in the class and we didn't need to buy books which helped a lot.
I looked at those ratings and it must be that the students who thought she was awful failed the course - how is that her fault? Mrs. Livesay was the bet teacher I've had. She's caring, nice, really helpful, and tries to make the work interesting. For an English class, it was great. I'll certainly take her other classes.
It was an excellent class!
Prof. Livesay was one of my favorite professors at HCC. She is super caring, thoughtful, and wants you to succeed. Would highly recommend her section. As long as you put in the effort, you will be fine.
Mrs. Livesay is the best instructor I've had for online. There's extra credit, and she answers emails quickly, and always took time to explain things. There's a lot of reading (it's a lit class), but no exams. The material is boring, but she makes the class good, especially with the group project. Strongly recommend.
Excellent class and teacher.
Had to repeat ENC 1102 and had heard good things about Ms. Livesay. She was great. In the 8 weeks class, we had short papers instead of a big research one and got to pick what we wanted to write about. We had a "study" group which was a new thing for me and I enjoyed it. Just got into her Tech writing class. If it's like 1102, it'll be a good one.
The reviews here are definitely misleading. The syllabus changes weekly. She sends a minimum of 10 email/announcements per week. The course is time consuming for a FT student. The instructor does not accept late assignments but takes forever to grade assignments. The week of finals we had 5 assignments due. Avoid if you are a full-time student.
I took Mrs. Livesay for ENC 1101 ad ENC 110; she's excellent. The best projects were making a website and LinkedIn page. The esume and cover letter were beneficial. Mrs. Livesay was always available to help and returned emails fast. There's extra credit in the Syllabus and throughout the course. It's an easy class if you follow directions.
This was the best online class I've taken at HCC. That bad review must be from someone who failed. It's a lot of work, but it's an 8-week course. Don't want to do it, don't take it. Mrs. Livesay was helpful. Took this for USF. I learned to write a resume, cover letter, eportfolio, and LinkedIn pages that will be relevant throughout my career.
My overall view of the class was that it was pretty straightforward at times but was not too difficult - just time-consuming. This class encouraged discussing assignments with peers and making groups with peers, so I did not feel alone and was helped multiple times by my group. Mrs. Livesay was a great teacher and very helpful.
I enjoyed this class. The content was not complicated, but it was time-consuming. This was an 8-week class, so it required time management. This course was highly beneficial to me. If you manage your time correctly and submit your best work, you will succeed in this class and learn plenty of new things.
The instructor was great. I enjoyed this class, and though it embraced some topics that were not the most interesting, it ensured that the skills gained would be helpful and gave me experience in writing technical documents. I feel that the course was at the right level of difficulty considering it was not an entire semester course.
I loved this class, and I think it should be required because I learned so much from it. This is my 3rd class with Professor Livesay, and I have learned valuable information from every class; thank you!
This class was beneficial with just enough of a challenge that I could strengthen my critical thinking skills. Personally, my main struggle with types is understanding the relevance to later life, and I liked how in each assignment description video, Professor Livesay included real-life examples of why that skill is essential.
My view of this class was very positive! I learned a lot in this short period. I am confident that my documents will be used many times in my professional life. It wasn't dull, and there were many interesting topics. Thank you for being an outstanding professor! I truly appreciate all of your feedback and help on the assignments!
This is the first online class where I engaged with my classmates outside of a discussion board, and I found it very useful. I also liked the quick and thoughtful responses Professor Livesay had to any of my questions and concerns.
I think that this class was the perfect blend of challenging and interesting, I usually struggle in English classes, but this class felt a lot more interesting than the other English classes that I have taken. I will use the documents that I have created in this class, so I feel that this class is more useful in the real world.
I recommend Prof. Livesay's course; it was excellent. I learned technical writing skills that I will use in the future. I recommend it to students/professionals making a career change. The class was not too easy or too hard. It was always interesting because the material was presented using various instruction methods and assignments to complete.
I enjoyed this class, and though it embraced some topics that were not the most interesting, it ensured that the skills gained would be helpful and gave me experience in writing technical documents. I feel that the course was at the right level of difficulty considering it was not an entire semester course. The teacher was very helpful too.
The instructor valued our input, and we got to decide on the projects. My favorite assignment was the blog. I thought it was a great opportunity to find a topic I was interested in writing about, which I enjoyed. I had a lot of fun doing all of the assignments;
This was one of my favorite classes at HCC, and I enjoyed it. I learned important key features with creating a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn and ePortfolio website, and writing emails correctly. It was easy to learn and understand, but I recommend that you don't procrastinate. An eight-week class flies by, so don't fall behind.
The assignments were real-world, from resumes to memos. My favorite was the e-portfolio because I had been interested in creating a website. Ms. Livesay provides clear steps on what to include to make it professional. This class was much better than my first experience at another school. It was challenging enough but not too easy.
Everything in this class is clear. The professor uses templates, and it's all open-book. She was responsive to emails and held video meetings to discuss assignments. She emails a lot, but I appreciated the reminders. On holidays she extended the due dates. It's not hard, but there's work. Don't procrastinate. I would take all her classes.
I enjoyed the class because it wasn't dull writing but real-world assignments. A resume, email, memo, and cover letter will always be helpful. The peer group was helpful, and ePortfolio was great, and I think I can use it at USF. Prof. Livesay answered emails quickly and was available to video meet even on Saturday. I would take her other classes.
I saw the bad review. Ridiculous - 200 students are wrong? I took her for ENC 1101, 1102, and 2210 and they were all good. Yes, they can be hard in eight weeks, but you know you have to work if you sign up for that. Just don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute. She's helpful and gives extra credit. Don't like the class, drop it.
I took the eight week class and while it was a lot of writing, it wasnt' as much as in the 16 week class that I didn't pass. Mrs. Livesay is very helpful and worked with me to help me improve my understanding and grade. I signed up for her ENC 1102 class.
I took Professor Livesay for both English classes and am talking the technical writing one. My experience has always been good in her class. She is probably the nicest teacher I've had so far. English isn't my first language so it's hard, but she always took time to meet with me and give me suggestions. She really cares about her students.
I just started this class as a dual-enrolled student. Mrs. Livesay has already included a lot of extra credit in the first week to give us a head start on our grades. She was also available over the weekend to answer questions. It looks like a lot of work but mostly reading. I'm looking forward to learning about portfolios and will report back.
This is my 2nd class with Mrs. Livesay. I like that she doesn't require buying textbooks, provides all the sources, and has extra credit in the syllabus. So far, we're building our own website and working on resumes. She opens the work weeks in advance. It's almost like independent study. She answers emails fast. So far, so good!
I took Mrs. Livesay's ENC 1101 and 1102 classes. This one is an easy class. It has a lot of stuff in it, but Prof. Livesay recommended we read the assignments first and go back and just read what's needed for the assignments. It's a good class and I'm glad I took it in the short semester.
I probably shouldn't have taken an eight-week course, BUT it was not too hard or too easy. The resume and cover letter assignments were helpful, and the portfolio in Wix allowed me to be creative. Some instructions weren't clear to me, but Mrs. Livesay was always available to help. There's extra credit in the first week, but you must find it!
We learned professional documents, and my favorite was building our resumes. This will help me as I get older and try to apply for professional jobs. Professor Livesay was always available and not once have a reached out to her without an answer. I would take her again.
We created LinkedIn and ePortfolio websites; the best was the ePortfolio page. I appreciated that the course didn't have a midterm or final exam and was based around projects, like resumes, writing memos, and emails, that I could use later. The templates laid out what was expected, and every assignment could be used for life experience.
This class challenged me. I am not a good writer at all (texting has ruined my writing), but my accomplishment was in punctuation and capitalization. This class helped me improve my writing to professional standards and boosted my confidence. I enjoyed the challenge, and Mrs. Livesay was always available to help.
The class ends next week, but Prof. Livesay encouraged us to work ahead, finish it, and have time to focus on exams in other courses. I really recommend this class. I took it at UCF but had to repeat it. This was far better. The teacher provided examples of how the writing should look. We didn't have to buy a book which was huge help. Recommend!
Tech writing wasn't necessarily complicated or easy but lay somewhere between. Many teachers don't focus on the small things, but Prof Livesay concentrates on details like grammar, which brought my writing to the next level. Prof. Livesay grades in a way you can learn from your mistakes. Plus, the extra credit was an excellent addition!
My overall view of the class is very positive. I think the class was in the middle, being easy and hard. The workload is a lot but is expected for a summer mer course. I think with focus and no procrastination, the class is very manageable. The course is very well organized, and think it was set up very nicely.
I have truly loved this course and now know I have improved in my writing abilities. I personally thought the interaction and communication were good. not too excessive and not required as much, it was fairly straightforward and suitable for an online course. I would recommend the class.
This class was not too hard or too easy; I thought it would be more complicated than it was, but it was alright and dynamic. This course was satisfactory, and the syllabus was precise and detailed.
Overall, I have nothing but positive things to say, and I would literally tell all of my friends to enroll in it. While it wasn't simple, it wasn't difficult either. I didn't feel like I had an excessive amount of work. Additionally, the organization of this course and the manner it was divided into the modules were really beneficial.
I can honestly say that this is the first online course I've taken where I didn't feel alone. I enjoyed the groups and the little chat room set up at the beginning of the course. Also, I've never had a professor that actually sends reminder announcements and speaks to us like real people rather than simply college students; I appreciated that.
I felt like there was a lot of communication in the class. Professor Livesay was very good about sending emails with feedback and information about assignments. I also had my accountability group, which helped a lot! The class was really fast, so I got overwhelmed, but that's my fault for taking it in six weeks, but it's still a great class.
A tough class for 6 weeks and Prof. Livesay is a no-nonsense instructor, but she kept me on track and stopped me from quitting. And my writing definitely improved. The spoken-word poetry was a nice change over the regular bookwork. She is the first online instructor who seemed to really care about students. I signed up for her tech writing class..
I don't know how Mrs. Livesay can get bad reviews. I took 1101 and 1102 and am going into 2210. ENC 1102 is hard in 8 weeks, so if you can't do a short term, don't take it. You gotta work in it. But if you want a caring teacher who gives extra credit and will actually help you improve by giving feedback, it's a good class. I recommend her classes.
Mrs. Livesay is the nicest teacher I've had. She communicated a lot and checked on me when I hadn't been in class, which I appreciated. She's also strict on due dates. She won't take late work, which I kinda get in an 8 wk class, but she gave us a chance to rewrite any essay for a better grade. The course was better than I thought it would be.
I think the class was both hard and easy at the same time because some assignments were more difficult, and some I found pretty easy. I don't think that it was boring because I was either challenged or having fun with the assignments. I'll probably take Prof. Livesay's other classes.
I personally enjoyed the class and thought it was a good class overall. The instructor communicates with us very well about expectations from the very beginning of the course, which gives us a baseline. The MLA assignments were challenging, but it's openbook so I think that overall it is a great course.
My overall view of the class is fun. Although I didn't have much time in my busy life to focus on assignments like i wanted, they were fun to do. Many topics were the very opposite of boring. I also liked how the teacher put our names in the quiz questions. It helped me understand better. Shout out to professor Livesay for believing in me.
The course was not hard, but it was also not just "easy." The class challenged me without stressing me out. Everything was set up and ready to just tackle. It was super easy to keep up, all thanks to Prof. Livesay. Do not be afraid about not passing this course. There is extra credit and everything you need. You just have to put in the effort!
I would not say the class was hard, but it wasn't easy (moderate), especially in just eight weeks. But, if you do what you need to do, then you should have a passing grade. I felt there was a variety in the assignments, so it wasn't boring. Don't procrastinate. because due dates come up fast.
Ms. Livesay is like the biggest cheerleader. She was always encouraging us with positive announcements and videos and when I missed some assignments, she emailed to see if I was ok. I've never had a professor so involved in the online. She also had a group project so we wouldn't feel alone in the class. My 2nd try, and I'm glad I took her class.
It was definitely a tough class, but it was a good tough being that I feel I learned a lot. English has never been my best subject, but I enjoyed it cause it got my brain going. I loved that this class was actually interactive. I felt like I really did get to mingle and learn about my classmates. I took Mrs. Livesay based on reputation. Glad I did.
SLS is needed to graduate, and I saw Prof Livesay was rated good. SLS is a lot of busy work, but it's the same one used by all the instructors. The professor added extra credit, let us redo assignments, and was available almost any time. She answers emails fast, too. Read the assignments and then the sections to answer the assignments,
This class had a great balance between learning literature and critical thinking. It was just the right amount of work while still challenging but not overwhelming. Professor Livesay responds quickly, so do not hesitate to reach out to her with any questions or concerns!
ENC 1102 is a hard class in 10 weeks, but I am proud of how my writing has improved in this course. I have always loved writing until college, when my professors made me feel inadequate. With Professor Livesay's positive feedback and being called out for good work, I regained confidence in my writing. I will take her other classes.
Dr. Livesay is one of the best instructors I've taken at HCC
I'm finishing my 3rd attempt at 1102, and it's been a hard class. Prof. Livesy has been a good teacher. The essays were the same in my last classes, but she's a better teacher. She even met with me by video on a Saturday to go over my essay. You must meet with her to review anything you get lower than a C grade on. I would take her classes again.
I don't typically feel this strongly when it comes to my teachers, but this entire course has been horrible from the start. Her instructions are never clear, she does not communicate effectively, and she grades terribly. She grades so harshly and inaccurately that it's nearly impossible to get an A in her class, and I have A's in every other class.
Ms. Livesay is a very kind person. I misjudged her in the beginning based on mistakes she made but she gives great feedback and is there to help her students. I have learned a lot in this class. I will suggest to other moving forward.
This course is a prerequisite, and I'm glad I took it with Mrs. Livesay. There were some confusing instructions, but she fixed them and let us revise the work for better grades and earn extra credit. I finally learned how to write a professional resume. She won't "hand-hold," but she'll meet with you any time to help. It's a great class.
It wasn't very clear at times, but I learned more about business writing than in any class I've taken at USF. Blog writing, eportfolio, and resume assignments will always be useful. Prof. Livesay uses LinkedIn Learning, so we earned professional certificates to enhance our resumes - those were great. See the reviews. I would take her class again.
Technical writing is a good class. The focus on hands-on projects rather than having exams made it more informative. We teamed up in accountability groups which was good support. Mrs. Livesay worked around my job to meet with me and helped me a lot. I'll recommend the course.
This class was a good mix between hard and easy. There were some assignments that I thought were challenging and some I thought were easy. This class was not boring with plenty of assignments that spiked my interest and were necessary for me to learn. I did not feel alone in this class. Ms. Livesay gave fast feedback and responses.
Overall, I found this class to be exceptional in terms of workload and dedication to coursework. Assignments varied in difficulty, with a good balance between easy, like LinkedIn learning and challenging like the ePortfolio project. I appreciated the diverse videos, readings, documents, and discussion posts, which made it engaging and interesting.
There was a lot of interaction and communication especially because we got to form groups with other students around the first week of class. Instead of typing our introductions in a discussion, we made videos which made it feel more connected. There was a good amount of announcements and feedback and communication from the professor.
I took ENC-1102 and I'm so glad I took it with Ms. Livesay. I did the 6-week version and despite some of the assignments not being entirely clear, I always did very well. As long as you follow the instructions and look at the rubrics for the essays, you will do well.
I had Professor Livesay for a 6-week course at HCC, and I can honestly say as long as you follow the directions, you should be okay! She gives feedback on your essays and is pretty straightforward! She also offers extra credit and will shout you out if your work stands out!
The class was very enjoyable to me. All the stories were interesting, and nothing was difficult as long as I was focused on actually doing the work. It is not an easy A, but it is hard to fail if you do your work. This class was also very connected to the real world, I could relate to the stories and slam poetry, and that made me more engaged.
I found this course to be a balanced mix of hard and easy. Many of the assignments required extensive thought, and in hindsight, I am glad I am using more critical thinking skills. Ms. Livesay provided plenty of guidance and was available to meet. This class was nothing I couldn't handle, but I'm also glad it wasn't just boring and oversimplified.
The class was decently challenging due to it being eight weeks. It was not boring or easy, nor was it overly difficult. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. I never felt alone throughout the class's duration. There was plenty of communication with peers, announcements, and available office hours contributed to it feeling like a true classroom setting.
Thank you for being the most responsive and outstanding college professor I had yet you're awesome :)
You were A Great Professor. I recommend taking her SLS class
My experience was very good with this class. I am very glad that I got to meet with Prof. Livesay a couple of times to go over assignments because that helped me understand what I needed to do for future assignments and work better in this course.
I had a valuable experience with this class, I really appreciated it when the teacher made assignments due on Mondays as all other classes have work due on the same day. It was nice getting a small break from your class. I also appreciated it when she gave us the chance to make up any assignment that we had zeros for.
This course has been really effective to me because I learn something new every day and thank you Ms. Livesay for making it more interesting.
Ms. Livesay has been an exceptional instructor. She has gone out of her way on multiple occasions to help me understand the materials presented. She has done an excellent job communicating course objectives and encouraging students to do additional learning for extra credit. I will recommend her strongly to other students for English classes.
Prof. Livesay allowed us to make assignments and gave extra credit. She was always available to help online. I think the course was great. I especially liked making an eportfolio and LinkedIn Learning certificates. The projects were useful for everyday life. She's the best teacher I've had so far. I'm dual-enrolled and will take her again.
I believe that this eight-week class was very well-paced. I felt that the class was not easy, though it was something I could handle. This was one of the first classes I have had where I was part of a group, and I can say that it helped me not feel alone. I would like to thank Professor Livesay for making this class interesting.
ENC 1102 was very well-paced. It was definitely more challenging than ENC 1101, but way more enjoyable due to the open communication with the professor and being able to communicate with my peers in this class.I would take Mrs. Livesay's classes again.
Professor Livesay met with me online on Saturdays to help with a paper because I work long hours during the week. I appreciate her feedback. She also let us choose stories to read, which made it more interesting. It was a short class so there were challenges, but she's a great teacher.
I think the 8-week class (which I thought was a regular class) was great! It was challenging but not overbearing, and I am glad I took it! The communication and interaction was great, and I enjoyed the accountability groups also. This was a great class!
The communication throughout this class was superb! I have never felt more connected with my professor and classmates. Everyone should have Professor Livesay as a teacher! She made ENC 1102 an interesting and fun course.
Mrs. Livesay put effort into her responses and created videos even for corrections. She was always there to guide the students as a professor and lead them to success. She inspired me with her comeback as someone who did college years later and is now a professor.
I took three classes with Professor Livesay and she was a great teacher. I recommend her classes.
This was an easy course and the professor gave extra credit and time to revise papers. She was invested in helping us and knew the resources. SLS 1106 was a good class, and I recommend Mrs. Livesay
I do love that she gave extra credit. Seemed to always be something wrong with a paper for her to knock off 1-2 points. Took a while to grade outlines (needed for final essay).
It was a great class! It was not overly difficult but required consistent effort to achieve a good grade. The course struck a good balance between being challenging and manageable.
My view of the class is that it applies to everyday life. My favorite assignment was the blog. I didn't realize how much I would enjoy persuasive writing: it made me consider writing more in my free time. I liked the accountability group. It was nice to have the group chat for help. I did not feel alone in the course.
Mrs. Livsay is the nicest teacher I've had at HCC. She met with me after work hours and explained things, so it was easy to understand. She gave extra credit and we worked in support groups so we didn't feel alone. I'm taking her ENC 1101 course in fall and will report back but I say if you have a chance, take her.
This was a good online class. The communication was good in this class because we had a group to help us stay accountable so we could all pass the class together. Ms. Livesay was good at responding and commenting on the assignments and the class to make us feel like we belonged.
This was a great online class and I really appreciated how we got to work as a group. I want to give a shout-out to Professor Livesay for her support throughout the course; I really appreciated how promptly she responded to emails. Thank you, Ms. Livesay, for guiding me through the course.
Professor Livesay's ENC1102 was a well-paced and engaging class. The open communication and accountability groups really helped me stay on track. I found unstuckstudy ai to be a valuable study tool alongside the course materials.
Ms. Livesay had numerous mistakes in the course content making the course way more difficult than it needed to be. It's clear Ms. Livesay does not adhere to her own standards. At end of the semester, she deducted grades based on an error in the course instructions. She's also very condescending in her communication.
Professor Livesay gave us extended deadlines and is my only instructor who wrote feedback, not just a grade. She gave us multiple chances for extra credit and rounded up final course grades if you don't miss an essay. The eight week course is hard, but she opens it so we can work ahead. I'm proud of how I improved my writing in her class.
She's rude. Very subjective grading. She lacks accountability and self-awareness.
Worst professor I have had. Super strict and feedback provided was horrific. She suggested tutoring. NO problem.. I attended the session and the tutor even said I don't understand the feedback. I was crying everyday trying my best for this class so I decided to withdraw. I wont take her in the future. She is not my style of learning and grading.
I found the eight week class hard, but Ms. Livesay met with me several times on the weekend to help me. There was plenty of extra credit that helped boost my grade. She is very straight to the point and doesn't take crap; why is that a problem - it's the real world. The material can be dull, but I'm a better writer and will take her ENC 1102.
My sister and I took two of Ms. Livesay's classes. She's fair and gives good comments on assignments. I like that she gives a "shout-out" on good work. She doesn't take excuses, she'll meet after work, and she sends a lot of reminder emails. If you met deadlines you can get the whole class done early. Don't procrastinate; you'll do good.
I had a wonderful experience in this SLS class. It helped me learn about the great resources at HCC, especially the Upswing tutors available to help students. I think the professor is a great, dedicated teacher who truly cares about her students!
I enjoyed having Prof. Livesay as my instructor. She worked hard to help us understand the material and resources.
This is the 2nd class I've had with Prof. Livesay. And again, enjoyed her guidance throughout the course; would 100% recommend for others.
Professor Livesay was very respectful and helpful, and I loved the way she structured the class. She allowed me to learn in a productive and informative environment. I would recommend her.
I hated the class, and probably shouldn't have taken an eight-week course. It's a lot of writing and the timeframe didn't work for my schedule. Professor Livesay was good, but firm, and doesn't take excuses. But, she gave extra credit and was available to meet after work. I'd take her class again if it was 12 or 16 weeks. She gave extra credit.
SLS is good for new students but I've been in college before and found the topics boring. It was hard to get in with an advisor so do that soon. I recommend Mrs. Livesay because she was present in the class. I've taken online classes where I've never seen the teacher and response time was too long. I'm taking her ENC courses in spring.
I got an A in this class but struggled due to lack of clear instruction. The feed back given was often judge mental opposed to helpful and students in her class often felt belittled.
The class was hard for eight weeks. Prof. Livesay met with me several times and helped me. She's straightforward and expects students to work hard, but she's fair and gives extra credit and a chance to revise one essay. I've never had an online instructor be so present or available. The class was a lot of writing but she was a good teacher. ,
Most of the students failed all the essays given. We were put into peer groups so I know from talking with others that we were all overwhelmed with this course. Grading was extremely difficult and didn't seem to make sense. She would critique my thesis when one she deemed as a "good example" would be missing the same points. The worst class.
Mrs. Livesay is an engaged teacher. I appreciated that she who gave us opportunities to resubmit work and make up a missing assignment. She also met with me over spring break to help me with an essay. That said, the 8-week course is hard because it's like the 16-weeks. The course was sometimes confusing, but I'll take her classes again.
ENC 2210 is one of the best classes I've taken and Mrs. Livesay is helpful and answers my emails fast. There are no exams, mostly short quizzes and projects: learning to format a basic resume and cover letter, memo, and an eportfiolo and no book required. So far it's a great class that I need for USF, so I'm glad I'm taking it at HCC.
I have to retake the class with her, because I missed the final essay. She doesn't take late work. But she offered to let me resubmit what I did well instead of redoing it. I don't like the policy, but it's my fault. i appreciate she's availble after the semester to help me. She's fair and gives extra credit and a chance to make up an assignment.
This class increased my ability to write well. I would recommend her to anyone thinking about taking this course.
Dana Livesay communicated clearly, motivated us consistently, and always provided timely, constructive feedback. Her supportive teaching style, combined with her willingness to meet with me after hours for tutoring and her organized approach, made this learning experience both engaging and effective. Highly recommend this instructor.
The instructor was fine, but the class itself was too fast and hard to understand. I know it's a built course that everyone uses, but I shouldn't have taken it in eight weeks. If you procrastinate, take it in a regular semester.
Professor was great; I should have taken it over a longer semester. Mrs. Livesay is always available and helpful. I took her other ENC class, and it was much more engaging. This pre-made "exemplary course" was convoluted, full of filler, and hard to understand. I would prefer to take a class that she made. Otherwise, she's a great teacher.
The professor was helpful, but sometimes her announcements sounded like she was scolding us for procrastinating. I didn't appreciate the nagging to meet deadlines. It was an eight-week class, and I won't take a writing class in that short of a semester again.
The assignments were interesting and I like that I didn't have to buys books. It's a good intro class about business documents that I can use real-world. It also counts to my university degree requirements to continue to be a technical writer.
Avoid at all costs.
I don't recommend a 6 week English class because it's too much writing and essay research. But, the instructor was great and met with me on Saturday to help me write a draft. And there's extra credit. I should have taken the longer class, and 'll take ENC 1102 with her.
A six week ENC course is tough, but I am grateful for all the effort Prof. Livesay put into teaching the course.
It was tough to finish this class in 6 weeks, but still manageable. In total there were 3 essays along with other assignments. However, the assignments all played a supporting role in completing the essays.
I appreciated that her videos made it feel like she was in the class. And her availability for one-on-one support and the extra credit opportunities were more than generous. I really appreciated how interested she was in our success.
My overall view of this class is beneficial. Although it was a short course, in that time frame I learned many new tips and skills that I can apply in the real world. Professor Livesay was frequently available to meet for questions, and to top it all off we were in groups where we could communicate amongst each other at any time.
I originally took this course just to see if I wanted to major into something similar as a backup plan. This course helped me realized my strengths and where my interests are at. In the end I achieved my goal into finding more about myself.I would like to give a shoutout to Ms.Livesay as she gave me insight on my career goals and decisions.
Ms. Livesay created a structured and effective learning environment that supported student success. I appreciate the supportive learning environment that Ms. Livesay created, which facilitated peer interaction through the discussion forums and made it easy to engage with classmates' perspectives and insights.
Based on my limited experience with online courses, ENC 2210 was the best online course I've taken. It checks all of the right boxes, and everything flows nicely. Prof. Livesay was very helpful.
The class struck a good balance between challenge and accessibility. The modules were appropriately rigorous without feeling overwhelming. I appreciated the real‑world focus on documents I'll use (e.g., resumes, cover letters, proposals). At times the pace felt fast, but overall it maintained my interest and pushed me to refine my writing.
Overall, I thought the class was well-balanced. It wasn't too hard, but it definitely challenged me to think more critically about how I write for professional and technical audiences. The assignments felt meaningful and practical, not just busywork. Definitely not boring.
If you take the shorter semester option, it is a lot of work. But honestly as long as you start working as soon as the course opens and try to work ahead, you will pass. It is an open book course so it is pretty easy. She super communicative and super nice. She hides extra credit in some of her videos and syllabus.
This English class was an excellent learning experience, because of the professor's dedication and skill. She created an engaging, supportive environment that encouraged participation and critical thinking. Assignments were challenging, but the feedback provided helped me grow as a writer and thinker. This course was both rewarding and inspiring.
SLS was manageable and helpful for first-time college students. The course is pretty simple follow the instructions. Even though it was eight weeks it was still pretty manageable and not overwhelming. Overall, the professor was great and always response in a good timeframe I would recommend this course/ professor to first time college students.
Ms. Livesay has been a great professor; she always tried to help everyone and reminded us often about important factors to improve our essays. She was also available throughout the course to talk about any issue. Overall, a great course and professor!
